the palm tree is great and all, but what about the flickies?? in this backwards world, those little animals are his only friends, so he’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect them. when the chaos council took over, they were in great danger, and bullet made the tough choice to trade his freedom for their safety, acting as an enforcer on their behalf.

The thing that makes me seethe about James somerton speaking about “boring gays” with condescending disdain is a) the implication that a gay man named Mark who just wants to be an accountant and go on annual trips to the beach with their husband and live a normal “un exciting” life is lesser and letting down the community. You’re not required to be amazing or exceptional just because you’re queer. And B) ~those boring gays were interested in boring things like marriage equality and worker protections~as if that is a lesser fight, putting aside that some of that push came from AIDS victims and survivors dealing with not having the legal rights to see their sick boyfriends in a hospital or homophobic family swooping in and taking their estate as the legal next of kin. Why? Why is that lesser you self righteous jerk? Why was wanting to get married a lesser want than having lots of gay sex or creating art?

I remember growing up in the 2000s and the gay community fought so long to try and prove they were just like heterosexuals. Because they are, they’re humans who happen to like the same sex or who happen to fall outside cisgender identity. The queer community was dehumanized for so long because of those differences and fought to be seen as human and ordinary as everyone else and James’ implication that remaining gays not being special and groundbreaking enough and thus art declined completely disregards that.
