Kind of a teaser for a fanfic idea I've hinted at before [1] [2] [3] (check the links if you're intrigued at all).

Currently (without spoiling the plot), the idea is for a very emotional and character-driven story, testing the characters against a more realistic and depressing world.

If this post gains enough traction and enough people stay tuned, I might start drafting sooner, but I can't guarantee.

Had to dust off the old fimfiction for this one aha :'D

I have a pretty high standard when it comes to sombra stuff, I only have about 100 fics favourited among the 2000 something or however many about him. I used to more frequently read mlp fanfiction but I don't really anymore :/ season 9 kinda ruined Sombra and sadly a lot of the new fics use his new personality (though to be fair he didnt have much of one before LOL)

Anyway here is my top 10 list of Certified Sombra Bangers (Sombrangers?). In no particular order:

Regarding Falling Villains (naturalbornderpy)This was one of the first fics I ever read and it is AMAZING. It's a Twibra fic, not really that serious and it was more lighthearted, it's about Twilight and the Princesses trying to reform him. naturalbornderpy is one of my favourite fanfic writers as well, he's amazing at writing funny in-character humour :D he also has a few other fics about Sombra but I think this is his best one

Sombra: Saga of Hatred (HiddenUnderACouch) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/125519/sombra-saga-of-hatred This is like a biography of Sombra, basically going through how he ended up as King of the Crystal Empire. It is amazing and impactful and I think about it way too much even to this day, when I read it in 2019. Sadly it was never finished and its last update was in early 2017 but I'd highly recommend it, it's incredibly high quality and surprisingly immersive

A Sparkle in the Darkness (tom117z) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/414136/a-sparkle-in-the-darkness Omg, this fic was so amazing. It's basically about where Twilight gets curious about Sombra after his defeat and begins reading up about him. There's a bit of a twist I won't spoil, but it's mainly about Twilight and Sombra's relationship (not Twibra shipping though). Absolutely S-Tier :D

Dinner With the King (naturalbornderpy) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/219841/dinner-with-the-king Another one of naturalbornderpy's fics, but this one isn't so funny and is more of a horror-drama from what I can remember. In the height of his initial reign over the CE, Sombra takes six guests to his castle to have dinner every month. And none ever return. Stomach-twisting and haunting. Sombra is more villainous in this one than Regarding Falling Villains

The Crusader King (naturalbornderpy) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/274736/the-crusader-king Okay, yeah, another naturalbornderpy story. What can I say, I'm a fan. This one is more like Regarding Falling Villains and is much lighter in tone, kind of comedic. Haven't read it in a while but iirc Sombra gets tied up to working with the Cutie Mark Crusaders: shenanigans ensue. Iirc as well I think it goes into his background briefly.

Unfortunately, I Am The King of Equestria (Sofa King Zill-E) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/374058/unfortunately-i-am-the-king-of-equestria This one is a certified funny haha, but technically there's actually no Sombra in it. Sombra has just defeated Celestia and conquered Equestria after returning! Only for some random human man to wake up in his body and replace Sombra's soul. Shenanigans ensue. It's pretty funny. However, like Saga of Hatred, it was never finished and hasn't been updated for 6 years. I highly recommend reading it

Sweetie's Shadow (Note Sketch) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/214170/sweeties-shadow Comedy and slice of life that gets progressively darker. Sombra gets magically attached to Sweetie Belle's shadow, essentially becoming the 'devil on her shoulder'. Very good, but again, unfinished. I recommend it though, it's a good read with an interesting read (kind of like A Sparkle In The Darkness)

The Fairy Tale Fiasco (LaWombat) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/401496/the-fairy-tale-fiasco This is a Twibra fic. Kind of like Regarding Falling Villains? Basically, Sombra attacks while Cadence and Shining Armour are off on vacation. Magical mishaps happen and he, Twilight, and Spike are sucked into a book about fairy tales. Cue some character development and reformation. A pretty good read that I binged in one sitting

Plural Possessive (Aquaman) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/243196/plural-possessive Utter chaos and ridiculousness. It's brilliant! Basically, kind of like Sweetie's Shadow and A Sparkle In The Darkness. Sombra, bitter over his season 3 defeat, comes back intending to steal Twilight's body. But there's one thing he doesn't foresee: the mare changed her address, and Sombra accidentally possesses Dinky Doo instead. Shenanigans ensue. Light-hearted comedy

Dark Arts and Kind Hearts (Boomstick Mick) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/295671/dark-arts-and-kind-hearts A Flutterbra story this time. Sombra returns after his season 3 defeat and a successful battle sees Celestia begrudgingly giving him some crime-infested land and the choice of one of the Mane 6 to choose as his bride. He picks Fluttershy, who is forced to become his wife. Story follows her and Sombra establishing a new kingdom and liberating it of crime. A good read. Serious content warning though for NSFW and explicit gore/violence

Wrote my first mlp fanfic! Been wanting to write rarijack ever since I started watching so I finally did it

Summary:

"It's the wedding of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor!

Sometime into it, Applejack plays a little too rough with Rainbowdash and ends up taking a tumble right into a fountain. She won't let that ruin her night though, electing to turn to some hard cider to warm her right up as she waits to dry off.

Of all ponies to keep her company as she drinks, it turns out to be Rarity. The two enjoy one another's company, until the conversation turns to Applejack's own romantic infatuations. What ensues is a discussion probably best left for when they're both sober again."

My maids were almost done with my dress when there head walked in and said

“Princess Y/n ! Princess Y/n! the carriage is ready to go now”

She paused as she got a good look at my dress while the maids were adding the final touches to my dress.

The head maid smiled and guided me to the carriage. Today I would finally be able to go the the Hong Ball. Hosted my King Hong and his wife Queen Hong. I’ve never gone before because you had to be 15 to attend which I just had reached during this fall. But the reason I was really excited was the chance and fact that I would be able to see princess Eunchae. This was the first and maybe even the last time the public including me would see her. Just I finished my fantasy’s of what she would look like the carriage started to pull into the castle.

It was truly a sight. Like castle from the tales my teachers would tell me, and tonight it was little up with red and gold accents which looked truly magnificent. As the carracks came to a holt I was guide out and into the castle were my name was announced I bowed and ran to the snack table. While I was happy to be here until I saw the princess I thought I might as well have a snack to wait.

As I was eating my finger sandwich I failed to notice the tall finger hovering over me (In my defense the food was absolutely delicious). But as I turned around once I noticed the shadow, my sandwich dropped and so did my mouth.

“ I told them the finger sandwich’s were a good idea “.

She said as she giggled at me frozen state. With out in hesitation I quickly bowed and said .

“ Hi Princess Eunchae I am, .. “

“ Princess Y/n, your quite popular “ She said as she smiled and waited for my answer. I started to blush and ask her a bunch of random questions as she laughed and people started to watch. “ let’s get out of here.. it’s starting to get crowded “. She said a she dragged me out of the castle walls and into her glorious garden.

“ It really is beautiful out her Princess “

She nodded while looking at me paying no attention to the garden and began to drag me again to the green house.

“ If you don’t mind me asking Princess- “

“ Just call me Eunchae “ she said as stated at me and awaited my question.

“ Ok Pr- Eunchae why did you drag me down here to your.. green house “.

She chuckled and began to say “ Can’t you tell why? “.

“ No not really I didn’t even know you new my name till today “. I said as confused as ever as she kept on laughing.

“ I guess the news hasn’t gotten to you yet “

“ What news? “ I said as she started to walk closer to me and backed me into one of the green house walls. She put one of her hands on my waist the other on my cheek and said.

“ The news of the newly announced Princess Eunchae being named the queen soon and- “

“ That’s great ! “ I said staring right down at her dazzling red glass shoes as she started to speak again.

“ You didn’t let me finish.. and the news that she wanted her Princess to be you “. I looked up my eyes almost popping out of there stockers as I tired to register what just happened “. She laughed and said,

“ Yes Princess Y/n I like you.. I’ve seen you portraits and paintings all around and have heard of what a nice person you were and made my family invite you today, so I could finally meet you “.

I stared at her blankly as I could tell her smile was starting to falter and her grip on me started to loosen.

“ I don’t really know what to say I was really happy to meet you but I don’t know if I can reciprocate you feelings “. Her eyes dropped and so did her hands a she began to walk a way. But as soon a she did something inside me told me to say.

“ But I’m sure that if we spent more time together I could get to know you I- “. She quickly turned around and kissed me, and after a few seconds I closed my eyes and kissed her back. As the kids finished she stepped back and said.

“ I-I ’m sorry if that was abrupt I was just- “.

“ It’s fine I liked it “ I smiled and patiently awaited her answer.

“ Guess the the glass shoes worked… “. She said as she smiled at her red glass shoes, and right then I new a new adventure with Princess Eunchae has just started.

For some reason, I just remembered that I attempted to write an MLP fanfic back in high school that's essentially a 1:1 to that mini animated series, "There She Is!!" Think I only did the first episode/chapter, and the main characters were Spike (as the cat boy) and Sweetie Belle (as the bunny girl).

Happy Hearths Warming!

Twilight continued flipping through page after page. The Filly Psychotherapy, Caring for Filly and Colts Behavioral Health (1st, 2nd, all the way through the 10th edition!), countless workbooks about Filly development… Celestia, she even tried a Starswirlian approach with mental and physical rehabilitating spells! Yet, over and over again she came to the same conclusion.

“I can’t help her.”

She fell face first into her notes. Even now, 10 years after she had succeeded the throne, Cozy Glow remained as incomprehensible as ever. She was a pony, friendship is supposed to be something inherent to her as it is to all creatures. Yet, pony wasn’t the most fitting word. Tyrant, egomaniac, filly. At her age, Cozy was supposed to have been doing her homework and stressing over a bad test grade for so long that she stays up a whole week to get that perfect 100% on her ‘unnecessary’ and ‘you’re still our top student with a 98%’ retake; not making allies to aid in world domination. She sighed. If Discord was correct then all of them, not just Cozy, had been close to understanding friendship. Which only made this so much more confusing! Of all creatures who could continuously fail to understand friendship, why Cozy?

Oh, Twilight. It wasn’t like you started off the Princess of Friendship.

With that thought, she knew she’d be stuck thinking about the entire issue for another night. It started off as a question, a simple thought exercise even, but knowing herself if she couldn’t find a theoretical answer to the question then it would keep her up all night until she did. Finding that theoretical answer would calm her down for a few weeks, she had a few working theories about Cozy at this point ranging from absentee parents to the profound mental trauma, but now it’s evolved into an obsession that Twilight wasn’t sure would stop even if she found the one true absolute answer to it. Regardless they all went to the same worrying conclusion in her ever tired and overworked mind; she had failed to help a little filly.

When Twilight first came to Ponyville she supposed she and Cozy shared that disinterest in close personal friendships for the sake of friendship itself. This would immediately give way to pure conflict as Cozy and her were fundamentally different ponies. Twilight and her friends found themselves naturally gravitating to one another, wiping away each other's tears, and being each other's greatest supporters especially when they had no one else by their side. Cozy couldn’t even fathom friendship outside of her own theories regarding its power that in a way Twilight would concede had some inklings of merit had the foundation of Cozy’s beliefs not been so very wrong. In the end, Twilight found herself seeing Cozy as more akin to an alien from the moon rather than a pony she’d see on her way to the schoolhouse.

It was a battle between the two concepts of Cozy; a misguided child and the outset of a maniac.

Just how had she become so evil?

Twilight’s eyes snapped open.

Evil. She was calling a filly barely old enough to pack her own lunch evil. Still, is that not what Cozy was? In her frustration she hid the remaining bits of her face that weren’t already covered in notes with her hooves. It was hard to deny what Cozy was. She had tried to conquer all of Equestria, twice. If she had succeeded, whether intentional or not, everycreature would’ve gotten hurt and eventually die. That’s why the princesses and Discord had to stop her.

That’s why she had to turn her to stone.

No one had disagreed with the decision. That was supposed to be her confirmation that no one, not her nor Celestia, had done anything wrong. Still her heart seemed to beat faster at the thought of keeping her in stone for an indefinite period of time. Indefinite, possibly even infinite. The statue’s wide fearful eyes seemed to stare past her whenever she visited.

Twilight wished someone had disagreed with her that wasn’t herself. She was surrounded by yes-stallions and friends who simply couldn’t disagree because they didn’t disagree. Twilight entertained once in a while asking Applejack or Rarity how they would feel if she had to imprison their sisters but she would quickly dismiss the idea; these situations were completely unrealistic, only sharing the idea of a young pony being imprisoned and it just wouldn’t be fair to take out her frustrations with herself on them. She was a full-grown pony now after all, and it would be unbecoming.

Her mind drifted,

“She was dreadful, Twilight. We all did what we had to.”

I just don’t know.

“I’ahm not saying Ah like it but Twilight, actions have consequences.”

They do, but surely there was a better way…

“Oh come on, Twilight! You shouldn’t be doubting yourself! She would’ve turned Equestria into some wasteland by now if we didn’t stop her!”

“Rainbow’s right, Cozy was a very bad pony. You aren’t the bad pony here, Twilight.”

I guess you two are right.

“You’re a good pony, Twilight. If there was a better way, you would’ve found it. Please, don’t blame yourself.”

…Thank you, girls.

Though it was the last bit of the conversation that Twilight had really hung onto. Fluttershy’s little assurance that surely if there was a better way of course Twilight could find it. If she couldn't, then surely one day another child would pop up the same as Cozy; violent, angry, and able to channel that anger into full blown chaos. She didn’t think she could bear turning one of her subjects, especially ones so young, into stone.

She could ask those she knew would give their own unique perspectives, but of those most were off starting their own lives and the rest Twilight would admit she wasn’t that fond of. She didn’t trust herself to ask Trixie without lashing out at the inevitability that is Trixie becoming uncomfortable and cracking a joke. It’s who Trixie is and despite the two exchanging apologies for their past transgressions they simply couldn’t mesh as close, honest advice giving friends. She certainly couldn’t ask Celestia herself who had trusted her to lead. If Twilight was already doubting herself and her predecessor’s decisions then Celestia would start to think that she wasn’t cut out to make the tough decisions needed to protect Equestria, and if Twilight couldn’t put her hoof down then Celestia would have to cancel the whole retirement idea she was so fond of, and everyone would know that they couldn’t rely on her! The Princess of Friendship!

Breathe, Twilight.

She was starting to fall into the line of thinking as if she was a student again. Celestia had trusted this responsibility to her for a reason. She accepted it because she knew she was ready for it. Her eyes began to droop, fluttering closed.

She was losing sleep, twisting and turning over the decisions of her predecessors.

The word student seemed to echo in her mind. Twilight was acting like a student, and ah, Cozy was her student once wasn’t she? It was her school after all. She closed her eyes as sleep started to creep its way in. Of all the students that she took directly under her wing, they all seemed to succeed. From Starlight to Flurry to her newest batch at the School for Gifted Creatures, none of them had fallen so far behind. Not like Cozy had. Her eyes closed for the night, and with the rest of her strength she encapsulated the chain to her lamp with purple magic and tugged it off.

Just what was she supposed to do now?
