from eden, part X - no ‘who cares,’ no vacant stares, no time for me
~*~
Somewhere in Hels, a player stares at his soulmate in shock.
Tango could’ve sworn Jimmy was asleep. He checked, he checked multiple times to make sure Jimmy was well and truly unconscious before slipping out of bed. And he’d been so careful about it, moving so slowly and quietly to ensure Jimmy wasn’t woken up. All he’d needed was for Jimmy to keep sleeping for not even five minutes- just long enough for Tango to sneak downstairs, grab the supplies he’d secretly prepared earlier, go through the portal, and break it from the other side.
Yet here they are.
The abrupt silence after their mutual outburst is blanching. There’s almost a static feeling to it, like electricity gathering in the air before a lightning strike. All of Tango’s previous thoughts have flown clean out of his brain. He can only stare at Jimmy, forehead stinging, mouth slightly parted as he struggles to make sense of what he’s seeing.
Jimmy looks similarly disoriented. He sits in a heap in front of the portal, bathed in the green-yellow-red light, his wings splayed out around him. His nose is scrunched up- still wincing from the pain of Tango’s forehead smacking into his chin, most likely. The recently-obtained scar across the newly-formed bump on the bridge of his nose stands out in sharp contrast against his other, more familiar, features. He said it didn’t bother him, but Tango feels a stab of guilt every time he looks at it. Even now, it’s a reminder of the pain Tango’s brought him. Of how Tango’s failed him.
Jimmy recovers first.
“What am I- what are you doin’ here?!” he cries, rising to his feet.
Realization dawns on Tango as he finally grasps the reality of this impossible scenario he’s found himself in.
Jimmy’s here. In Hels. Jimmy is in Hels. Jimmy is in Hels. Oh. Oh no, oh that’s the opposite of what Tango wants. This is bad. This is really, really bad. This is a whole heap of bad with extra badness on top. Jimmy can’t be in Hels, he should never be in Hels.
“Tango,” Jimmy presses, taking a step forward, “are you listenin’ to me?”
Tango jumps to his feet, heart pounding. He quickly scans their surroundings- still no players to be seen, though some of those magma cubes in the distance are getting close. He knows they’re on borrowed time; there’s at least two players in this world who are bound to notice his arrival in chat, and the clock’s ticking.
“Tango?” Jimmy says again, uncertainty leaking into his voice. “You alright?”
Adrenaline floods Tango’s body. He feels hyper aware, like all his senses are in overdrive- his skin is prickling with heat, and if it weren’t for the wither rose collar, he’s certain his blaze rods would be swirling around in a defensive inferno.
He needs to get Jimmy out of here.
Despite their difference in height, Tango’s strong enough that he could probably push Jimmy back into the portal. He’d have the element of surprise, initially. But Jimmy’s build isn’t just for show- Tango would have a hard time keeping him in the portal for the few crucial seconds required to teleport. He might even get teleported back, himself.
So instead of attempting brute force, Tango stalks forward- though not close enough to be grabbed- flattens his ears, bares his teeth, and hisses.
“Go home,” Tango hisses lowly. “Right. Now.”
That seems to take Jimmy aback. He raises his eyebrows, incredulous. “Ex-cuse me?” he demands, putting his hands on his hips. “Now, hang on-”
“You shouldn’t be here!” Tango interrupts, his voice catching somewhere between anger and desperation. “This is-”
“You shouldn’t be here! What-”
“You’re not safe here-”
“- tryin’ to- well, neither are you!”
“- and you need to go back!”
“I’m not goin’ back without you!” Jimmy gives up on trying to keep his voice down, wings flaring out in agitation. “I thought we were in this together! I- god, Tango, we want to help you, we all just wanna help-”
“It’s not your problem!” Tango snaps, his temper rising. “Alright? It was my mistake that brought Bravo and Hels Tek to our door, you- why should you have to deal with it? What, just ‘cause we got randomly assigned to be soulmates? You didn’t sign up for all this!”
Jimmy’s expression darkens. “Yes, I did, that’s what it means to be a partner.” He reaches for Tango’s arm. “Tango, I love you-”
“I know!” Tango jerks away. “I know that, okay? But you- did it ever occur to you that maybe I love you, too? Maybe I don’t want you to put yourself at risk fighting my battles for me? Because I love you?” He rakes his claws through his hair, a mirthless laugh escaping him. “Is that- did that happen to cross your mind? That maybe for once I- I did something ‘cause I love you and not ‘cause I hate myself? Maybe I could do the selfless act of love every now and then? I mean, is that- is that so hard to believe?”
Jimmy stares at him for a moment, brown eyes blown wide. Even in the absence of their soulbond, Tango can tell he’s hurt.
“That’s not what I meant,” Jimmy says finally, voice quiet. “I know you love me. Of course I know you love me. But Tango, honestly- can you honestly tell me that this decision wasn’t- that- that it had absolutely nothing to do with feelin’ like you deserve to be here?” he asks desperately. “No influence on your decision at all? Not a- a single part of you that thinks it’d be okay if you got trapped here again, suffering forever? Not even the slightest bit?”
Shit.
Tango sets his jaw. “That doesn’t matter.”
“Doesn’t matter?” Jimmy repeats, disbelieving. “Of course it does-”
“No, I don’t- you need to leave!”
“I’m not leavin’ you, I mean it!”
“I already told you, I don’t want-”
“Tango, please.” Jimmy holds out his hand. He looks close to tears. “Let’s go home. We’ll figure this out, alright?”
Tango swallows back a frustrated whine; he doesn’t have time for this. Atlas has no doubt already noticed his arrival, and he still needs to find Bravo. And the longer they stand here loudly arguing in front of an active portal, the greater the risk of discovery. It’s already a miraculous stroke of luck that the portal spawned in an uninhabited area.
Jimmy can’t force Tango back through the portal any more than Tango can force him. Besides, starting a physical fight with Jimmy would probably be his breaking point. This is hard enough already. He spends a precious second to take in Jimmy’s face; the thin line his mouth has pressed into, the tears brimming in his eyes, the scar across his crooked nose.
Then Tango turns on his heel and sprints away.
It’s a last-ditch effort kind of gambit. He’s hoping that if he loses Jimmy in the basalt delta, Jimmy won’t know what else to do but go back through the portal for help. And once he does, Tango can swoop in and break it. Problem solved.
There’s a surprised shout behind him. Wing beats fill the air as Jimmy takes flight. But Tango’s head start has already allowed him to reach the first outcropping of basalt, pock-marked with pools of lava. Without breaking stride, he leaps up onto the ledge of stone-
Only for his foot to catch on a tripwire.
Pistons go off while he’s still mid-jump. The ground opens up into a black pit beneath him. His claws scrape uselessly against the lip of basalt and suddenly he’s falling, stomach lurching, too shocked to even call out as wind whistles by his ears and he plummets into the darkness below, Jimmy’s voice screaming after him.
“Tango!”
Traps. He forgot to look for traps.
Weightless, Tango struggles to right himself. The hole is pitch black and it’s disorienting, wavering light from his dim blaze rods flickering against the walls. His mind races frantically. Even if he could pull a block from his inventory and place it down under him- and he’s not sure that he could, at the speed he’s falling- the damage would kill him anyways. No, better to see how this ends. If he’s dumb enough to fall for a trap, he should at least give it the satisfaction of killing him as intended.
Although, Tango’s been falling for more than a couple seconds and he hasn’t hit anything yet. That’s unusual. Few trappers care to dig holes this deep when a shallow pit of lava will have the same result. Maybe death isn’t the goal here. Maybe-
Light, somewhere down below. As it gets closer, Tango thinks he can see the walls of the hole open up into a larger room. But the bottom still goes down- into a pit of cobwebs. So that’s it. The trap was designed to capture players, not kill them. But why-
“Tango!”
Jimmy’s voice echoes wildly in the tunnel. Tango glances back over his shoulder to see Jimmy diving towards him, arms stretched forward and wings flattened, body straight as an arrow.
Tango doesn’t currently have the breath to call out to him. If he did, it’d probably be something along the lines of, ‘No no no no no, why did you follow me, you idiot!’ and that wouldn’t be very constructive.
Jimmy hooks his arms underneath Tango’s, snaps his wings out, and takes them sailing out through the gap in the tunnel.
The abrupt swerve makes Tango’s stomach drop. Jimmy barely manages to avoid taking them directly into a wall, wings flaring, wind whipping around them. They tumble into an ungraceful- but not deadly- landing, tangled up in a pile of limbs.
The room they’ve flown into is large but rather crude, carved out of the netherrack and deepslate that make up the deepest levels of Hels- more of a cavern, really. A few scattered torches along the walls provide the room’s only lighting, and they’ve landed among a collection of haphazardly-placed chests- a chest monster to rival Scar’s. The center of the room is occupied by the hole at the bottom of the dropchute. Beyond it is something that makes Tango’s blood run cold.
Half of the room is covered in elaborate redstone circuitry, feeding into an empty portal frame. It’s an eerily similar setup to their own portal, and Tango is at once certain he knows who this base belongs to.
He processes this all in the couple seconds it takes him to get on his feet. Jimmy’s still crumpled beside him, uninjured but disoriented. Shit. He hadn’t planned to have Jimmy with him for this confrontation and it has him on edge, his skin crawling. The room’s empty right now, but he can’t see another way out except back up through the dropchute- it’s a precarious place to be in. He doesn’t like what being backed into a corner does to him.
“Ugh,” Jimmy groans softly, pushing himself upright. “Not one’a my better landin’s…”
“Shh,” Tango hisses.
Jimmy frowns at him, rising to his feet. “Tango, can you just-”
“Quiet!” Tango urges, gaze flicking around the room. Their sudden presence doesn’t seem to have set off any alarms, but there’s no telling what the trap was hooked up to-
Ca-clunk.
Tango’s ears prick at the sound of more pistons. He whirls around, hackles rising, to see part of the adjacent wall open up.
“Well,” Bravo says, stepping into the room, “isn’t this convenient?”
Tango had been mentally preparing himself to see his doppelgänger again, but he’s still taken aback at the state Bravo’s in. His hair and clothes are wild and unkempt, the stains on his shirt indistinguishable between redstone and blood. There’s a weariness about him, like he hasn’t slept in days, yet every muscle in his body is tense, his bruised knuckles gripping a netherite sword. Most striking, however, is his face; his green eyes are so bloodshot they’re almost red, and heavily lined with dark circles that- in a bizarre way- resemble wither stains.
So for a moment, it’s like Tango’s looking in a mirror.
It passes quickly. Tango forces the tension from his body, holding up his hands. “Take it easy, alright, I just wanna talk.”
“I?” Bravo tilts his head to the side, taking another step forward as the wall closes up behind him. “Uh, it looks like- looks to me like there’s two of you, pal.” His gaze cuts over to Jimmy, and his mouth quirks into a grin- hard and humorless. “Good to see ya, Jimmy.”
Tango bristles. “Leave him out of this,” he says lowly, stepping in front of Jimmy. “He wasn’t supposed to come.”
Jimmy makes a noise of protest. “Hang on-”
“Ohh, oh okay,” Bravo says, nodding slowly, “I- I see what this is. This is- hah, wow, this is kinda perfect.” He begins to pace in front of them, idly twirling his sword in his hand; there’s an unsettling air about him. “Lemme guess, you uh- you intended to come here alone, but your soulmate had other ideas?”
He spits the word like an insult. Tango feels his lip curl. “None of your business.”
“Oh? It’s not?” Bravo barks out a laugh- a sharp contrast to the enraged look in his eyes. “Well, you’re in my fucking house, so, you know. Forgive my curiosity.”
Anger flares inside Tango; he pushes it down. “Look, I know we didn’t exactly get off on the right foot-”
“You fucking think?”
“Enough!” Jimmy shouts, wings flaring as he throws an arm out in front of Tango. “Bravo, listen to me. I don’t like you, alright, but we aren’t here to fight.”
“Obviously.” Bravo actually rolls his eyes. “I can- I can piece it together well enough, okay. You figured that you could come rescue me from Hels, and then I- everything will be peachy-keen, right? I mean, if- if you wanted me to stay here, you wouldn’t have opened a portal. Except this one,” he stops his pacing, leveling his sword at Tango, “got it in his thick head that it was somethin’ he needed ‘to do alone.’ So he snuck off by himself, on a solo mission of noble, stupid self-sacrifice, in the hopes that it’d make up for what he did-”
“Shut up,” Tango growls.
“- and that it’d keep you safe. Right?” Bravo’s voice drips with malice. “Except poor Jimmy’s too good to let you take the fall alone so he followed you here, right into my trap.”
“So what?” Tango demands with a bravado he doesn’t feel. Truthfully, Bravo’s words have opened a pit in his stomach; he hates that Bravo has seen through him so clearly. “What, I mean- you want a trophy for figuring it out? And- and why set a trap for us if your plan was clearly to get out through a portal of your own?”
Bravo scowls. “That trap wasn’t for you, actually. It’s for the damn mercenaries that’ve been comin’ after us since I split from Hels Tek.”
Jimmy frowns. “Us?”
Bravo’s face twitches. “Wh- me. Whatever.”
“You split from Hels Tek?” Tango asks, furrowing his brows. He knew Atlas and Bravo had fought back on Double Life, but he wasn’t sure if that’d be enough to make Bravo willingly take on Hels by himself.
Bravo snorts. “Yeah, I- I uh, I don’t take kindly to bein’ stabbed in the back, but Atlas still wanted a portal and wasn’t gonna take no for an answer, so.”
Tango would laugh at the irony, if he didn’t feel so sick to his stomach. “Wow,” he drawls, still unable to keep the sarcasm out of his voice, “so it turned out Atlas only cared about you as far as he could exploit you? Imagine that.”
Clearly, he’s touched a nerve. “Shut up,” Bravo snaps.
“Watch it,” Jimmy snaps back.
Unbothered, Tango glances around the cavern. “So wait, you- it’s only been like, what, a- a couple weeks since you respawned here, how- where did you get all these supplies?”
“Eh, found a new sponsor.” Bravo shrugs. “You know, I was probably only a few more days away from gettin’ my portal up and running ‘til you guys showed up. But it worked out nice this way, right?” There’s a manic light in his eyes. “I- I was gonna get my vengeance on you once I got back to the overworld, but instead, we can do it right now.”
That’s all the warning he gives before he attacks.
He’s fast, faster than Tango’s expecting. It’s all he can do to shove Jimmy out of the way, diving into a roll that brings him quickly back to his feet. He only brought one sword; he pulls it from his inventory and throws it to Jimmy without a second thought, because he doubts Jimmy prepared at all before coming through the portal and swords have always felt clumsy in his hands. There’s a reason traditional PVP has never been his strong suit.
The sword has barely left his grasp before Bravo’s springing at him again.
Screech!
Tango brings his claws up in time to catch Bravo’s blade between them. The force of the blow shudders through his arms. Bravo’s strong, too- stronger than Tango would think for a non-hybrid version of himself.
“Stop it!” Tango huffs. “We don’t wanna fight you!”
“Too bad!” Bravo sneers.
Well, if that’s what he wants. Tango ducks under the sword and brings a hand up to slash at Bravo’s face. Bravo disengages, darting backwards, out of reach- he readjusts his grip for another swing.
“Hey, lay off!”
Jimmy charges into the fray; Bravo pivots mid-swing to block Jimmy’s blade, the clang of metal reverberating through the cavern. He leans into the movement, bringing his leg up to deliver a swift kick to Jimmy’s side.
With a pained grunt, Jimmy stumbles, off-balance. Bravo raises his sword to slash again- but Tango rushes him, forcing him back. Claws swipe through empty air.
“Gotta do better than that,” Bravo tuts, flicking his sword out to nick Tango’s cheek.
The sharp pain and sudden scent of blood is disorienting. Tango lunges forward almost blindly, a snarl catching in the back of his throat. Rage bubbles inside him, and he can feel his fire trying to respond- but with the wither rose in his system, it’s like throwing a match into a well.
Bravo deftly steps around him. “There’s that famous Tango temper again!” he taunts. “Go on, show us exactly how much of a monster you are.”
The words sober Tango instantly. He swallows back his rage; the last thing he wants to do is lose control like he did back at the ranch, especially when Jimmy could get hurt. His fire may be dampened, but that doesn’t mean he’s not dangerous.
Then his ears twitch at a furious shout- Jimmy surges into the air, wings beating, and swoops down at Bravo. “Don’t you dare call him that!”
In the same moment, Tango moves to block Bravo’s escape route, aiming for his hands in an attempt to disarm him.
But Bravo’s ready for them both.
He ducks beneath Tango’s claws and side-steps Jimmy’s attack, jabbing the pommel of his sword into Tango’s gut as a parting blow. Wings flailing, Jimmy pulls up short to avoid slamming into Tango- and yelps as Bravo’s sword cleaves a handful of feathers into the air.
“Come on!” Bravo goads them. “That the best you can do?”
Tango hadn’t gotten much of a chance to actually observe Bravo fight during the Hels Tek invasion, and he’s sorely regretting it now. It’s clear Bravo’s got more experience with PVP than either of them. And not the type of casual sparring between friends, but genuine life-or-death fighting- fast, messy, and brutal. Even being two against one isn’t helping them much; Bravo keeps on the move, twisting through and around them with a practiced ease that leaves them struggling not to accidentally hit each other.
A detached part of Tango’s mind runs through their options. Being killed and ending up at the world spawn would be the worst-case scenario; they’d basically be gift-wrapped for Atlas to come snatch up. But he doesn’t think joining through a hacked portal would reset their spawns; after all, the Hels Tek invaders wound up back in Hels after they were killed. Of course, he’d rather not find out for certain. And if he ends up respawning back to Double Life, his entire goal in coming here alone goes up in smoke. He won’t get another chance at this- the other Double Lifers will insist on putting themselves in danger to help him, ‘cause they’re annoyingly kind like that, and everything will turn into a big flaming ball of disaster.
So it’s really in his best interest not to get killed right now.
Except, he can’t help but notice that Bravo actually doesn’t seem to be trying to kill them. Most of what he’s aiming for are non-vital structures- arms, legs, Jimmy’s wings. When he does land an attack above the belt, it almost seems like he’s holding back, leaving only shallow gashes or a blunt hit with a skillfully thrown fist, knee, or elbow.
And despite clearly being the superior fighter, he’s mainly staying on the defensive. He isn’t taking nearly as many swings as he could. It’s an endurance game, Tango realizes- he’s trying to tire them out. But why? He’s on his own, it’s not like he’s stalling for reinforcements. There’s nowhere for them to go. That is, nowhere except-
Tango’s gaze falls on the pit at the bottom of the dropchute.
Oh. Oh, that’s-
Wham!
Pain explodes through Tango’s skull.
Bravo’s taken advantage of Tango’s brief lapse in concentration, landing a solid punch on the side of his face. It’s enough to make him black out for a moment, every thought in his brain screeching to a halt. When he comes back to himself, his cheek is pressed against the floor, made warm and sticky with his pooling blood. There’s a faint ringing in his ears- above it, he can barely make out the sound of swords clashing somewhere in front of him.
Tango manages to lift his head, blinking spots from his vision.
Bravo is driving Jimmy back- back towards the center of the room where the pit is. Tango opens his mouth to scream a warning, but he’s too late. As they near the edge of the pit, Bravo suddenly steps under Jimmy’s guard, hooking a leg behind Jimmy’s foot as one hand comes up to twist his sword out of his grip. Bravo’s other arm slams against Jimmy’s chest, knocking him off-balance.
Jimmy falls backwards with a shout, into the pit of cobwebs. He doesn’t fall very deep, of course- that’s not how cobwebs work. But he is immediately stuck, wings and limbs straining as he slowly begins to sink.
“Jimmy!” Tango cries, his heart jolting.
Oh, this is bad. Getting out of cobwebs without a sword, while slowly falling through them, will be almost impossible. Especially since Jimmy’s feathers are particularly prone to sticking to that stuff and every movement will cause him pain as he pulls on them.
“There.” Satisfied, Bravo stows Jimmy’s sword in his inventory before turning back to Tango. “Now we can finally finish this.”
“No!” Jimmy pleads desperately from the pit, already disappearing from view. “Leave ‘em alone!”
“Oh, don’t worry, I’m not gonna kill him,” Bravo tuts as he approaches Tango. “That- I mean, that’d just send you back home, right? Hacked portals don’t do the whole spawn reset-ification thing, as it turns out.” He shakes his head. “No, I- what I’m gonna do is arrange a little meeting with our old buddy Atlas to come pick you up, okay, and- and then I’ll finally get him off my back and be able to leave this fucking place for good.”
Terror shoots through Tango. If Atlas comes here, with Jimmy trapped like this…
Head pounding, Tango struggles to get to his feet. “Y- you don’t have to do this,” he says weakly. “I know I messed up, a- and I’m sorry, okay? But Jimmy had nothin’ to do with it, he- you have to let him go, please.”
Bravo’s lip curls. “I’m not gonna let Atlas get him. Believe it or not, I meant it when I said I wouldn’t let another overworlder get trapped here.”
Despite the severity of the situation, the offended disdain in his tone makes Tango snort. “Oh, sorry, uh- excuse me for thinkin’ you’d ever do such a terrible thing,” he rasps. “I- I mean, you can’t blame me, right? You- it’s not like you’ve made a great impression.”
Bravo’s eyes darken with anger, and then his fist is in Tango’s stomach. The punch makes Tango double over, gasping for breath- then a well-placed kick throws him back against the wall, pain crashing through his ribs.
“What’re you doin’?!” Jimmy’s panicked voice sounds from the pit- he’s sunken far enough down that he can’t see them anymore. “Don’t hurt him!”
Bravo ignores him, stalking forward to grab Tango by the front of his shirt. “You’re one to talk, you piece of shit,” he hisses in Tango’s face, reeling back for another hit.
Crack.
This one lands the hilt of his sword against Tango’s jaw. Bravo drops him to the ground in a crumpled heap.
“Tango!” Jimmy’s scream sounds far away.
Everything is pain. With no small amount of effort, Tango pushes himself upright, breathing raggedly through his nose. He can feel blood trickling down his chin from his split lip, can taste it stained against his teeth. His head aches. His body is shaking. There’s a cold pit of dread in his stomach, and he knows that he’s lost this fight.
But more than that, deep down, there’s the realization that maybe… he always expected to.
(It’s not like coming here without Jimmy would’ve changed the outcome. No matter what Tango said or did, Bravo was always going to react this way- why would Tango think anything different? Despite his intention to extend the olive branch, he knows Bravo wouldn’t have been satisfied to just let bygones be bygones.
Truthfully, Tango had been prepared for this the moment he saw that red light fill their portal. Bravo had nailed it right at the start; this was always going to be a mission of self-sacrifice. If giving himself up meant placating Bravo and Hels Tek, if it meant that the people he cared about would be safe, then Tango had been willing to accept it. Even if it meant going back to the farm for the rest of his life.
He’s already had ten years in the sun. That’s more than anyone else in Hels got.)
Bravo looms over him, a mad, triumphant grin spreading across his face. “You’re gonna spend the rest of your days in that farm where you belong,” he says lowly, “and out of the life you stole from me. You’re nothin’ but an evil monster, and it’s what you deserve.”
A strange feeling settles over Tango.
It’s like déjà vu, to sit here and listen to his doppelgänger repeat all the horrible things Tango’s believed about himself almost his entire life, all the things he’s told himself in the mirror time and time again. It’s his words spoken in his voice out of an eerily similar face, as if all his deepest insecurities have taken form.
It’s achingly, hauntingly familiar. Like a knife tracing over old scars.
And yet, there’s something odd about hearing it from another person. To hear such hatred and conviction in that voice, to see it so plainly in his eyes. Tango’s well aware that there are plenty of players who feel the same way- not just about him, but other hostile mob hybrids, too. He’s no stranger to prejudice; he’s noticed the wary looks and distrustful glares he’s gotten on public multiplayer worlds before.
Hell, Atlas is attempting to build an empire on the very concept of oppressing hybrids, and he’s had plenty of help to do it. Not just his fellow redstone scientists, but sponsors and buyers, too. Lots of players have reason to want Tango in a farm, to exploit and degrade him. But only because they would profit from it- otherwise they wouldn’t bother wasting so much time and energy on him. Sure, Atlas probably hates him to some degree, and is indifferent at best to all the pain he’s been caused. But Tango’s also certain that if he weren’t useful, then Atlas wouldn’t give him a second thought. If he couldn’t be farmed, Atlas would never have come after him in the first place. It’s all about ambition with Atlas; he wouldn’t waste time on petty revenge schemes.
Bravo, on the other hand, stands to gain absolutely nothing from this except the satisfaction of knowing Tango is suffering. How strange, that the only player to ever really demonstrate that desire isn’t even from Hels.
And with that thought, everything falls into place.
Tango wheezes out a laugh, though he immediately regrets it- fuck, his ribs. “So that’s where I get my sadism from! Good to know, good to know.”
The smirk drops off Bravo’s face. “What the fuck are you talkin’ about?”
Tango wipes the blood from his face. “I mean, I- we- we’ve established that I’m just a uh, a physical manifestation of all the evil parts of you, yeah? That’s what Hels are? Well, if that’s true, then every bad thing about me is somethin’ I got from you.” He grins, despite the pain of his split lip. “Can’t pour from an empty bottle, right?”
Bravo balks at him. “No, that’s not- it’s different,” he argues. “It’s- this is justified, you took everything from me-”
“So now you’re gonna do the same?” Tango raises his eyebrows. Bracing a hand against the wall, he slowly rises to his feet. “Funny, I- I thought that you were supposed to be a better person than me.”
“I am!” Bravo insists angrily.
Tango shrugs. “Well, you sure ain’t actin’ like it, skippy.”
That seems to take Bravo aback. “I- I don’t-” He rakes a hand through his hair, his breathing quickening. “It’s- it’s you, it’s this fucking place, it’s- I don’t know, it’s every-fucking-thing that’s happened in the last ten years! I- I didn’t deserve this, I didn’t do anything to deserve getting sent here!”
“Hold on, what makes you think I did anything to deserve gettin’ sent here?” Tango asks, genuinely curious. “I was spawned here as a child, I mean, what- what could a child possibly do to ‘deserve’ spawning here? What could any of us have done to deserve this?”
Ooh, Bravo doesn’t like that question. “I don’t know,” he splutters, “I didn’t make you spawn here! That was the universe, it- it must know that you- all you Hels- you’re just destined to be bad.”
Tango tilts his head. “Yeah? If that’s the case, then uh, why did the universe send you here?”
Bravo makes a sound like he’s been punched. “What?”
“I didn’t make that portal. You didn’t make that portal. We all know that the universe makes portals to Hermitcraft so why-”
“Stop it! It was a mistake! A glitch! I- I was never meant to come to Hels, you-”
“Then how has every other Hermit joined without having the same problem? Huh? Why you? Why us?”
“Shut up!” Bravo cries, almost desperate. “I’m the one in the right, here!”
“Says who?” Tango asks.
“I just- I have to be in the right!” Bravo protests, throwing an arm out. “I- I’m not like you, I’m not a Hels, I’m supposed to be the good one. If I’m mad, if I wanna hurt someone, it has to be justified, ‘cause I’m not- I’m not cruel.”
Tango just looks at him.
Bravo seems to recognize the irony in his words. It hits him almost like a physical attack; he staggers, eyes widening, face twisting with rage. “Don’t you dare fucking judge me!” he shouts as he raises his sword accusingly at Tango, voice echoing off the cavern walls. “I’m just- I did what I had to do to survive, and- and it ruined me. This world ruined me, and it’s all your fault, you bastard!”
They’re hollow accusations, built from hurt and deflected blame. But it doesn’t occur to Tango to defend himself against them. He couldn’t if he wanted to; all he can do is watch Bravo in stunned silence.
Even without the ability to set himself ablaze, Bravo’s rage is a terrible thing to behold. Tears stream down his reddened face; a mixture of fury and despair, raw and ugly. “It’s not fair!” he wails, almost a breathless scream. “Why did you get to be saved? Why did I have to take your place? What- what did I do?”
He takes another step closer, drawing his sword back, and Tango is suddenly struck by the very real possibility that Bravo is about to kill him.
“You did this to me!” Bravo snarls, wild-eyed and heaving for breath. “You and e- everyone else in th- this fucking hellscape, you- you did this, you-!”
Bravo lifts his sword for the killing blow-
And then he pauses. He stares at Tango, and Tango stares back.
“... fuck. What am I doing?”
Bravo stumbles back from Tango, lowering his sword. He clutches his head with his free hand, a few stray tears streaking down his face as he struggles to control his breathing. His anger seems to have extinguished, finally letting the pain seep through- an expression that Tango knows as intimately as his own reflection.
Tango blinks.
Its a complicated rush of emotions. Bravo represents the worst part of Tango’s life coming back to haunt him; his skeleton in the closet. Fueled by prejudice and misplaced blame, he fought tooth and nail to destroy the life Tango had built for himself, brought pain and hardship to a world of strangers who’d done nothing to deserve it. He made a deal with a devil to get what he wanted and didn’t care who got caught up in the crossfire. Most of all, despite having a viable way to escape Hels peacefully, he doggedly pursued revenge out of nothing but spite and a twisted sense of justice.
Logically, Tango should hate Bravo as much as Bravo hates him.
But for the first time, Tango tries to imagine what it must’ve been like to be trapped in Hels for ten years and not knowing why.
What Bravo went through is exactly what Tango’s always feared since he escaped; that one day his luck would run out, and he’d lose everything. His peaceful life in the overworld. His freedom. His friends, and the love he found with Jimmy- maybe Bravo had people he cared about before, too. Worst of all, Bravo had already experienced the wonders of the wider universe before having it abruptly taken from him.
Tango had been spawned into cruelty and suffering. He hadn’t known anything different, hadn’t known there was anything beyond Hels that he was missing out on. But Bravo did. Bravo knew what it was to travel between worlds, to explore untainted horizons, to live under the warmth of the sun. He knew cooperation and goodwill between players, the comfort and safety of solo worlds. And then suddenly, he’d been deprived of it all, with no way of knowing if he’d ever get it back.
So if Atlas told him that it wasn’t his fault, that he could blame it all on some mysterious, evil doppelgänger… Tango understands why he’d cling to the notion so fiercely.
It’s an easy thing to blame someone else. Accepting that Tango isn’t to blame for what he’s become means accepting that maybe his understanding of Hels players is flawed, and that he might not have been as good of a player as he thought to begin with. Accepting that Tango wasn’t to blame for stranding him in Hels in the first place would mean accepting that maybe… there wasn’t a reason at all. And that kind of acceptance is paramount to altering his entire worldview.
Tango’s been through that himself, once. It wasn’t a fun process. So right now, watching Bravo fall apart in front of him, he finds that all he can feel is sympathy.
So Tango summons enough strength to step forward and wrap Bravo in a hug.
Bravo recoils at first; the kind of instinctive flinch that Tango knows all too well. A noise catches in his throat- part alarm, part disgust. “What’re you-” He tries to push away, but Tango holds fast.
“I’m sorry,” Tango whispers. “You didn’t deserve it.”
Bravo freezes.
The air is still and silent around them, filled with nothing but the faint flickering of torches and Bravo’s shrill breathing. He’s as rigid as stone in Tango’s embrace- his muscles are so tense, it feels like they’re going to snap. After a few moments, he inhales sharply, and Tango is almost certain he’s about to receive a sword in the gut but he doesn’t let go, because he remembers what it’s like to live in this world and if he can’t even show his own doppelgänger kindness then he really hasn’t learned anything at all-
The sword clatters to the ground. And Bravo breaks.
He folds into the embrace and begins to sob. He sobs hard, shaking and gasping for breath in between, clinging to Tango like his life depends on it. Tears quickly dampen the collar of Tango’s shirt. It’s different from his earlier furious cries- this is absolute devastation, heart-wrenching and all-consuming. It’s a flood ten years in the making, finally spilling over all the careful walls that Bravo’s built around himself. And now that it’s here, there’s no stopping it.
Tango doesn’t speak. He simply eases them down to sit on the floor- he can’t support both his and Bravo’s weight right now. Bravo practically collapses, body limp, legs curled awkwardly beneath him but he doesn’t seem to notice or care. He sags against Tango and cries, and Tango lets him.
It’s slightly bizarre, holding his doppelgänger while he cries. Especially when he was attacking Tango not even two minutes ago. In many ways, it’s a disturbing echo of his own past breakdowns- he can hear himself so clearly in Bravo’s voice, the raw ache of it.
But he’s glad for it. New growth can only happen once the old is torn down. It’s a messy, unpleasant process. It won’t be quick or easy. Bravo has only just taken the first step- he’s still got a long, difficult journey ahead of him. But Tango knows how beautiful it’ll be, to come out through the other side.
And he thinks maybe he needed this, too.
Tango isn’t sure how much time they spend like that. Only when Bravo has finally grown silent, just the occasional sniffle or shaky breath, does Tango sit back enough to meet Bravo’s teary gaze.
“And neither did I,” he continues quietly. “And neither did anyone else who’s ever spawned here, that- that’s the point.”
Bravo sniffs, wiping his face on his sleeve. “But… the universe has to spawn you here for a reason,” he insists, his voice small and confused. Like a child.
Tango’s mildly surprised to find he feels no anger- just pity. “Maybe the universe is wrong.”
Distress flashes across Bravo’s face; clearly, he’s never considered that before. He pulls away from Tango but he doesn’t go far, tucking his knees to his chest. “So then... all this pain, all this struggle... was for nothing,” he says miserably. “Everything I went through... a- and everything I did... I- I was so sure there had to be a reason, that I was different from the players here, that I didn’t belong here. But I- I’m fucked up. I used to be a nice person, but…”
“Nice isn’t the same thing as good,” Tango says simply. “And I would know.”
Bravo swallows. “… how did you do it?” he asks hoarsely. “You’re a Hels, why… how come this world didn’t ruin you, too? How did you end up being the good one?”
It’s an exceedingly vulnerable question, without a hint of reproach. Tango hums, leaning back on his arms. “Y’know, I spent a long time in this world. I- I grew up where it’s kill or be killed, murder first ask questions later, everyone’ll sell you out for a piece of rotten flesh. That was just normal. That was expected. If you’d known me back then, I- I would’ve been no different from any other Hels. I set horrible traps for fun. I cost random players, people I didn’t even know, their resources and their lives in an already harsh world, I mean- it wasn’t pretty. But I was a kid.” He glances sidelong at Bravo. “I was just a teenager when Atlas took me in, did you- did he ever tell you that?”
Bravo’s surprised expression is all the answer Tango needs.
“Nah, I guess he wouldn’t,” Tango sighs ruefully. “But the first person I thought was different- the first person who I thought saw more in me than the capacity for chaos, who offered me a home, a sense of belonging, a purpose... it turned out to be a trick. All of it, a lie. Just to get me into a horrible farm for the rest of my life, suffering constant withering and being harvested for my resources, like- like I was nothin’ more than a mob.” He gives Bravo a half-hearted grin. “You’d think that’d seal it, right? Like, that would just totally destroy any remaining faith I had in playerkind. And uh, it came pretty close, actually. But then I got out.”
He tips his head back to stare at the ceiling. “The universe created a portal, and I escaped to a world where players were kind. And generous, and… gave you the benefit of the doubt. They didn’t assume the worst, they didn’t judge you based on what you looked like. It was… completely foreign. I took advantage of it at first, I mean, I- I was a total jerk. I’m just lucky they thought it was all in good fun, jokes and pranks and stuff- or, or uh, maybe they did know, and still chose to show me grace, I dunno. What I do know is that after enough time had passed… I changed. My wants, my goals, my- my entire outlook on life changed. Suddenly I wanted to be good, I- I tried so hard to be good. And that only happened ‘cause I got the chance.”
He meets Bravo’s gaze, raising his eyebrows. “And- and I was an adult at that point, I’d grown up in Hels. I mean, imagine what I might’ve been like if I’d spawned on a normal world, grown up in the normal way. Hell, imagine if any other Hels kid got that chance. Maybe there wouldn’t be so many differences between us. Like, maybe even someone like Atlas could’ve been better.” He shrugs. “And maybe he wouldn’t have. Maybe he always would’ve grown up to be an asshole. Either way, there’s no way of knowing if they never have the chance.”
Bravo looks pensive, his brows knitted together. “I guess I… never thought of that.”
Tango dares to reach out and put a hand on Bravo’s arm. “I’m sorry you got sent here. If I’d known about it when it happened... well, I- I probably still wouldn’t have said anything, if I’m honest,” he admits. “Like you said, I did what I had to do to survive. But I’m sorry for what you went through, and for what my role in that was. If I’d been brave enough to speak up, maybe we could’a helped you sooner, I dunno.”
Bravo glances away. “I… understand,” he says haltingly. “It, uh… it doesn’t excuse the way I’ve been actin’, so. You know.”
Tango makes a noncommittal noise. “For what it’s worth, I- I don’t think ‘being good’ is somethin’ that’s like… intrinsically handed to us, just by virtue of where we spawn. I think good is a choice that we make, every second of every day of our lives. And y’know, deciding not to choose good in one moment doesn’t mean we can never choose good again.” He huffs a soft laugh. “I mean, if you ask me, that’s way more important than the world we spawn in.”
Bravo looks at him for a moment. His expression is impossible to read. Then determination settles over him, his eyes hardening, before he abruptly gets to his feet. Without a word, he marches over to one of the chests on the floor and rummages through it. Before Tango can say anything, Bravo pulls out an item and tosses it over to him.
Tango catches it, mostly on reflex; it’s a potion of instant health.
“You take that,” Bravo says briskly, stooping over to pick his sword off the ground, “while I go help Jimmy out of there.”
Then he jumps into the pit, slashing through cobwebs on his way down.
Tango blinks. Well, then. Guess that’s decided. He downs the potion quickly, grimacing at the sweet aftertaste of glistering melon, and rises to his feet. It hasn’t fully restored him, but it’s taken the edge off his fresh injuries and given him enough strength to be a functional player again, and he’s quite satisfied with that for now.
Putting away the empty bottle, he wanders over to the edge of the pit, catching the tail end of Jimmy snapping at Bravo as he approaches.
“- where you’re swingin’ that thing!”
“I’m tryin’ to help! Just hold still-”
“Don’t you tell me to- ouch!”
“You’re makin’ it worse! Hang on…”
Tango’s only just leaned over to look when Jimmy flies out of the pit. His wings are ruffled and there are a few places where it’s obvious that some feathers were pulled out, a few stray bits of cobweb still clinging here and there. But aside from the scrapes and bruises he received during their fight with Bravo, he looks none the worse for wear. He’s been gracious enough to carry Bravo out with him, though he’s quick to dump Bravo back on the ground once they’re clear of the pit.
“Tango!” Jimmy swoops over and nearly knocks Tango over, wrapping him in a tight hug. “Oh my gosh, I- I was so worried, are you alright?”
Despite the ache in his bones, Tango hugs him back just as fiercely. “Yeah, yeah, I’m alright, hun,” he reassures Jimmy, voice muffled in the crook of his shoulder.
Right now, he wants nothing more than to curl up in Jimmy’s embrace and fall asleep. Between the fight and his unexpected heart-to-heart with Bravo, he’s physically and emotionally worn out. But even though the immediate threat has been nullified, he knows they aren’t done yet.
Tango pulls back just enough to meet Jimmy’s gaze. “I’m sorry for all this,” he murmurs, reaching a hand up to cup Jimmy’s face. “I thought… if I came here by myself, I’d be protecting you- protecting everyone- from suffering the consequences of my mistake.”
Jimmy covers Tango’s hand with his own. “Did you… did you come here with the intent of givin’ yourself up?” he asks quietly.
Tango winces. “Well, I didn’t- that wasn’t my main goal, no, but uh- I- I knew it was a possibility,” he confesses. “I mean, ideally I would’ve patched things up with Bravo and- and somehow gotten the key from Atlas on my own, but… I was prepared to fail, yeah. I’d accepted it.”
Jimmy looks sad, but not surprised. “Y’know,” he starts softly, “you- you always talk about, uh… not wantin’ to hurt us, not wantin’ us to suffer for your mistakes. But I don’t think you realize that for us, the thought of losin’ you is far worse than whatever else might happen. I mean, I- I’d go through that battle with Hels Tek a hundred times over if it meant not losin’ you. And I know the others feel the same way.”
“Oh.” Tango’s throat tightens. “I… hadn’t thought of that.”
“I know.” A bittersweet smile spreads across Jimmy’s face. “I know it’s hard for you to believe sometimes, alright, but you- we’re rather fond of you, mate. So, um… d’you think you could give the self-sacrificial nonsense a rest?”
Despite everything, Tango feels himself grin. “I can try, yeah,” he says, leaning up to give Jimmy a kiss.
(On the inside, Tango is still terrified at how this might turn out. Hels is a dangerous world, and tangling with Atlas and the rest of Hels Tek is no small order. A horrible painful death is the least of his concerns- if Jimmy or any of the other Double Lifers ended up in a farm, Tango would never forgive himself.
But if today taught him anything, it’s that the people he cares about are just as stubborn as he is. No matter what he says or does, they’re going to be determined to help him, because that’s just the kind of players they are. And he could continue to try and fight it, to try and go it alone, but he’s sure they’ll still somehow put themselves in harm’s way.
So rather than fight it, maybe he can accept that they’re able to make their own decisions and take their own risks. And that working with them, rather than against them, might give them all the best chance of having a favorable outcome. They’ll certainly have an easier time dealing with Atlas if they don’t have to worry about Tango pulling another dirty, reckless move like this.)
Behind them, Bravo coughs into his fist. “Uh, hey, are you two done…?”
Jimmy breaks away with a huff of annoyance. “What?” he demands, keeping an arm around Tango’s waist.
“Just thinkin’ out loud here,” Bravo says, holding his hands up, “but uh, you- there’s no way you two are gonna be able to take on Hels Tek alone. I mean, you’ve already lost the element of surprise, I- he’s probably noticed your arrival in chat by now. And Hels Tek is several days away on foot, how- what, are you just- are you just gonna walk there? You’d barely make it a hundred blocks before gettin’ killed, what with your abysmal PVP skills.”
Jimmy scowls at the slight against them, but Tango frowns. “You’re right,” he amends. “I uh, I honestly didn’t have much of a plan besides ‘winging it’ when I came through, I- I was on a bit of a time crunch.”
“So what do you propose we do?” Jimmy asks Bravo pointedly.
Bravo rolls his eyes. “I mean, I just wanna get the fuck out of here. But if you guys are tryin’ to get the key to that collar skadoodler from Atlas, you’re gonna need help.”
“From you?” Jimmy’s distrust is evident in his voice. “Why?”
Bravo crosses his arms, shoulders hunched defensively. “I dunno, I- maybe I feel bad about the part I played in all this and feel like I owe you guys one?”
Jimmy scoffs. “Doubtful.”
Bravo opens his mouth to retort, but Tango intervenes. “Hey, I know you probably couldn’t hear everything from the bottom of that pit,” he tells Jimmy, “but uh, I- I really think we’ve worked it out, now.” He glances over at Bravo, smiling. “I think we can trust him.”
Shock flares in Bravo’s eyes, his expression sobering. He gives a slight nod.
Jimmy purses his lips. “Fine, but I still don’t like it-”
Ca-clunk.
Pistons activate, making all three of them whirl around to face the wall. Tango’s mind is already racing through the different possibilities- maybe Bravo was actually just stalling until backup came, or maybe Atlas was able to track them down on his own, or maybe it’s even a completely random player who stumbled across the base- but that all comes screeching to a halt as soon as he sees the player who steps out into the room.
Because that’s Jimmy.
Or- well- not exactly. It’s obviously not Jimmy because he’s still standing next to Tango. But it’s immediately apparent that, despite the several major differences between them, this is Jimmy’s doppelgänger, his Hels counterpart.
It seems impossible. Or at least, highly improbable, that Jimmy’s doppelgänger would be here, of all places, and now, of all times, when Hels is a massive, infinite world full of nearly infinite players.
But there’s no one else he could be.
“Bravo!” the player calls in Jimmy’s voice. “Did you- oh.” He draws up short when he sees them, seeming just as thrown by this turn of events as they are.
The first thing that jumps out at Tango is how skinny the player is. He’s practically emaciated; despite his tall frame, his limbs are no thicker than Tango’s, his big, watery eyes sunken into a hollow face- a face that, aside from the lack of a crooked nose, is almost identical to Jimmy’s. The large wings that trail behind him are black in color and poorly kept. He’s a lot paler than Jimmy is, too, almost a sickly sort of complexion. His ratty hair is a dull black, and- based on the sharp angles of the ends- was cut short very recently.
Now Tango knows how Jimmy must’ve been feeling this whole time. It’s fucking weird.
Beside him, Jimmy’s breath catches. He takes a single, tentative step forward- though Tango is quick to throw an arm out in front of him. The player doesn’t look very threatening. He’s barefoot and dressed in rags, carrying no weapon or armor. But Tango’s still on guard. This is an unknown Hels player, after all.
The player stares at Jimmy, entranced. “Oh,” he breathes, a trembling hand coming up to tug on a strand of hair. A jumble of emotions flash across his face, too fast to read. “I see… you must be Jimmy.”
“And you’re Timmy,” Jimmy says softly, dawning realization settling over his features. “Aren’t you? Gosh…”
Tango recognizes the tone of their voices; they’re experiencing the same strange sensation he did, the first time he laid eyes on Bravo. That abrupt and absolute recognition of the self in the other. Despite meeting for the first time, there hadn’t been a doubt in Tango’s mind that Bravo was his doppelgänger. He’d known it as surely as his own name. It was something instinctual, almost primal- grounding and disorienting all at once.
Timmy. That’s the nickname that Grian and some of the other guys call Jimmy. A practical joke played on them by the universe, no doubt, to have spawned with the names they did.
Bravo finally unfreezes. “Timmy! I told you to wait for me to come get you!” he hisses, but Tango can see the guilt and shame on his face.
“Sorry…” Timmy murmurs distantly, still fixated on Jimmy. “I was just… gosh, I- everythin’ makes sense now…” He finally turns to look at Bravo, and the faint, knowing smile on his face is devastatingly sad. “I… get why I wasn’t good enough.”
Bravo flinches. “No, no I- I didn’t mean-”
“Ey,” Jimmy cuts in, voice gentle but firm as he moves past Tango to approach Timmy. “C’mere, mate, it’s alright. Ignore him a second, hey?” He fans out a wing to block Bravo from view, nonverbally conveying that he’d like a private moment with his doppelgänger.
“Yeah, come on.” Tango takes the cue to grab Bravo by the arm, leading him to the other side of the room. “You- you wanna explain him?” he asks lowly, putting his hands on his hips. “I mean, how- where did you even find him?”
Bravo exhales heavily. “At spawn. Actually, I- we met the first time I ended up at world spawn, all those years ago. Go figure. He- he’d been livin’ there for god knows how long, just… starving to death, over and over again, ‘cause he was too scared to leave.”
Damn.
“Huh.” Tango nods slowly. “So… what were you sayin’ about all Hels being evil monsters…?”
Bravo tenses. “Shut up. He’s different.” He glances over his shoulder at the pair of avians. “I… after I was killed on your world, and- and escaped from Hels Tek, I ended up at spawn. He was still there, and this time… he agreed to come with me, so he could leave Hels with me once I got my portal working.”
“Mhmm.” Tango’s voice is terse, even to his own ears. “You, uh... didn’t happen to keep him around just ‘cause he’s my soulmate’s doppelgänger, did you?”
Bravo winces. “... maybe at first,” he admits. “But then- I dunno, I- I didn’t- things changed, alright?”
Tango folds his arms. “That’s pretty fucked up, to use him as a- a replacement Jimmy.”
“I know, okay?” Bravo hisses, but it’s lacking its usual venom. “I- I’ve had a lotta realizations in the last few minutes, alright? Gimme a break.”
Tango snorts but says nothing else, looking over to check on Jimmy.
He’s speaking to Timmy in low tones, eyes shining with concern. His demeanor is reserved, gentle, nonthreatening- he’s matching Timmy’s curled-in posture, just with less of the anxiety, more reassuring. And it seems to be working; even from this distance, it’s apparent Timmy’s slowly growing more comfortable, less afraid.
Sudden warmth swells in Tango’s chest. It’s overwhelming, meeting your doppelgänger, but Jimmy’s put all those complicated feelings aside to help a player who seems to sorely need it. His experience with Hels players thus far has been nothing but flat-out terrible, and yet it didn’t even occur to him to be wary of Timmy. Some might view that as foolish naivety or ignorance, maybe even stupidity. But to Tango, it’s a testament to Jimmy’s incredible kindness.
He couldn’t be more proud of his soulmate.
Eventually, Jimmy waves them over. “Hey, so uh, you got somethin’ to say to Timmy?” he asks Bravo, one hand resting protectively on Timmy’s bony shoulder.
Taken back, Bravo looks at Tango, who simply raises an eyebrow.
Bravo swallows. “Look,” he starts hesitantly, “I- I uh, I’m sorry for the way I’ve been treating you, alright? It… wasn’t fair for me to compare you to Jimmy.”
Timmy’s avoiding his gaze, fidgeting with his hands, but there’s a hopeful light in his eyes. “Thanks,” he says softly.
Satisfied for the moment, Jimmy turns to Tango. “We can’t leave him here,” he says, completely resolute. “I- I think we should head back through the portal for now, regroup with the others and come up with a- with an actual plan? So long as we don’t break the portal, we’ll still be able to come back through. Even if he,” he nods at Bravo, “is with us.”
Tango rubs the back of his neck, sheepish. “Right, right, yeah. I’m- the others are bound to notice we’re gone soon, so we should probably-”
“Oh!” Timmy gasps suddenly, smacking his forehead. “The others, right! Right, sorry, I uh- the reason I came to find you, Bravo, is that a- a whole buncha players just joined the world.” He cringes, apologetic. “I- I think it’s those guys you were tellin’ me about.”
“What?!” Bravo demands, sounding alarmed.
Tango whips out his communicator, eyes widening at the chat.
The entire Double Life server has joined Hels. Which means they’re probably up by the portal right now, wandering around and looking for him in a dangerous world they’re entirely unfamiliar with, full of hostile mobs, hidden traps, and certain ruthless scientists who’d love to add a few hybrids to their collection.
Shit.
~*~
Somewhere in Hels, a player types furiously on a communicator.
“No,” Atlas calls over his shoulder distractedly, “they won’t be at world spawn. Get me the last coordinates searched by Alisker’s mercenaries, we’ll start from there.”
“Yes, sir,” the scientist says quickly before rushing off.
It’s only been a few minutes since Atlas was alerted to Tango’s arrival in chat- him and one other player. The avian, he thinks. Obviously, this development necessitated that they drop everything and immediately pivot towards an effort to recapture Tango. Amidst giving orders to prepare the flying machines and gather weapons and armor, he’s been frantically trying to reach Alisker via whispers- without looking like he’s too desperate, of course, but he knows that having Alisker’s support in this endeavor will be critical to its success.
All the while, part of his mind is dedicated to puzzling out Tango’s motive.
He had a feeling they’d return to Hels eventually, to try and get the key for Tango’s collar from him. No doubt Tango’s finding its properties rather disruptive to normal life. The only question was whether or not Alisker’s mercenaries would find Bravo before then, allowing them to open a new portal and strike first. The latter option would’ve certainly been ideal, but ultimately, it doesn’t matter. He’s confident they’ll succeed this way, too.
(Failure isn’t an option. Not again.)
What’s most confusing, however, is that Tango seems to have come without any real backup. The other players from his world were quite formidable as a group; Tango must know that leaving them behind will considerably lower his chances of success. So perhaps he doesn’t intend to confront Atlas at all, and is simply content to live with the collar. After all, he’s still wearing the cuffs, all these years later.
The only way to open a portal to Hels- that they know of, at least- is by using a player’s data to lock onto their counterpart’s coordinates. So Tango must’ve opened a portal to Bravo. Perhaps that’s all his goal is- an attempt to make amends with his doppelgänger and provide an escape from Hels. If that’s the case, then they’re working with a limited time frame.
Because if Bravo leaves Hels with Tango, then Atlas is truly out of viable options. All he’ll be able to do is open random portals to any of Hels Tek’s counterparts in the overworld, giving them access to random worlds that Tango is highly unlikely to inhabit. That won’t satisfy Alisker, and Atlas is already on thin ice as it is. No, they need to move now if they have any chance of-
Chat is suddenly jumping with join messages, and some very familiar usernames.
Ah, there’s the rest of them.
Atlas’s runaway train of thought screeches to a halt. If the other members of that world are here now, then it seems like they’ll be going for the key, after all. Which means he can breathe again. They’ve got a difficult conflict ahead of them, sure, but he rather likes their chances here in Hels. And he’s got a much better idea of what they’re up against this time- they won’t be defeated again so easily.
Oh, and Alisker’s finally returned his message. Yes, things are shaping up quite nicely, indeed.
Atlas quickly makes the arrangements, rising from his chair and heading out of his office. The halls of Hels Tek are bustling with activity as everyone scrambles to get ready. Anticipation bubbles in Atlas’s chest. This is his last chance to be victorious; he won’t rest until Tango is locked back in that farm. And, if he plays this right, he’ll have several new additions to his hybrid-farming initiative as well. Already his mind is racing with ideas..
The minutes pass in a blur. Atlas is standing before the flying machines and barking orders, his voice echoing off the garage’s high ceiling, when his communicator beeps again. He glances down, expecting to see another message from Alisker, and draws up short.
Grian tried to swim in lava.
PearlescentMoon tried to swim in lava.
InTheLittleWood tried to swim in lava.
impulseSV tried to swim in lava.
Smajor1995 tried to swim in lava.
Etho tried to swim in lava.
ZombieCleo tried to swim in lava.
bigbst4tz2 tried to swim in lava.
Smallishbeans tried to swim in lava.
GoodTimeWithScar tried to swim in lava.
BdoubleO100 tried to swim in lava.
Renthedog tried to swim in lava.
Atlas blinks in surprise. The messages are almost simultaneous; a massive die-off like this can’t be anything other than a trap. How curious...  he knows Bravo is rather fond of setting traps, as Alisker’s mercenaries have discovered firsthand. And if the portal they came through was spawned near Bravo’s location… perhaps this was accidental friendly fire?
Another message flashes.
SolidarityGaming was slain by Bravo.
Oh. Nevermind.
Atlas watches chat with bated breath. It hasn’t escaped his notice that, as of right now, Tango is still alive. And if his hunch is correct…
<Bravo whispered to you> hey. I’ve got an offer for you.
Atlas grins.

I realized I messed up the timeline in Purple Gold
This is what I get for not checking the dates first
Canonically, Purple had already been in Minecraft in 2018, and Gold died in 2020 according to the wiki. I'm not changing it though so now Gold gets to die(?) way earlier :)
(Not a lot of lore here, this is mostly just me straightening out the timeline and getting my thoughts in order since its easier for me to do that while writing and I might as well post it yk)
@styck-figure @whirld-of-color in case you guys are interested on the nitpicky stuff.
I thought about the accident being before the OG AvM but I think that would have been way too early, and it was mostly because then I could give Herobrine some fun implications, but in the end I think it fits better to place him in the time between OG and ep1, so I also get to play with how the updates affect Purple's world. I think that the experience of being inside of a game while it updates is a very underrated sort of horror when it comes to sentient videogame characters, and I'm looking foward to making Purple experience it :) though the fact they know its a game, and probably also how updates work, takes off some of the horror.
Purple's first appearance is in ep9 and I can't find any frames where the date is shown(the only full screens we get are in Purple's mac and it only says it's a wednesday), but in ep8 the date is 5/18/2018 and... none of the next episodes in season1 have a date. Or the first ep in s2. Ok, time to ask the wiki and they only have the airing date but whatever. 6/18/2018.
Anyways, that means the only updates that would have happened before he meets the others are Combat, Frostburn, Exploration and Color. That's kind of disappointing since I was looking foward to having Drowned play a major role in Purple's second death but I can make it work without it. Just needs some tweaking.
The Combat Update is overall just way too subtle to effectively work as horror, the main changes are just mechanics and added end stuff. Basically just not a lot of stuff Purple would notice or pay attention to, especially since the End isn't going to be somewhere they would visit right off the bat. At most they would notice some new enchantments.
The Frostburn Update is already a bit more interesting, it adds 3 mobs (polar bears, Strays and Husks), adds magma blocks, fossils, increases Magma Cube spawn rates and lets Enderman spawn in the Nether. Overall enough changes to be a bit jarring, but I'm honestly just not vibing with it.
Exploration adds the Woodland Mansion and all the fun stuff that comes with it, but its so rare that its sudden appearence isn't going to be all that shocking because Purple probably never went wherever it is before it showed up.
World of color adds some new blocks but none of them naturally generated. The most horror potential it has are the parrots. ...Actually, they have a lot of horror potential with their sound copying. I might use that.
I'll probably have to wait a while for any update-related horror.
So, the accident happens midway through the Combat Update, and maybe that's why it happens in the first place. Gold gets unlucky enough to be playing right when the update gets released, and since stickfigures interact with our programs differently, it makes sense their tech would too. Instead of waiting for the player to close the game before updating, it decides to update with Gold still inside. :)
Purple shows up a while after the Frostburn Update is done since it happens so soon after Combat and I want Gold to have some time to get used to his new existence and learn about players.
All the while, King is having a lot more roadblocks than he's supposed to have. I'll have to throw some stuff at him to justify how long it takes for him to reach his canon position, considering in canon it takes like 18 months AT MOST. It probably is somewhere closer to one year.
Here Gold dies in early 2016, so that means King needs to be five times slower than in canon. ...He's going to need a lot of roadblocks.
One of those roadblocks is pretty much just taking that video off the internet also mostly because how the frick did it even get there??? THEYRE IN THE FREAKING NETHER THEY MINED OUT OF THE SCREEN HOW IS ANYTHING RECORDING THEM RIGHT NOW????

In honour of the last dungeon meshi Thursday (I know it’s Wednesday, shut up)
Minecraft cooking!
Where I go through the mob bestiary and treat it like a cook book.
Chicken, cow, pig, goat, rabbit, horse, wolf, sheep, cat, cod, salmon, tropical fish, llama- you know what these are, you don’t need me to explain. Both Laios and I are bored, moving on.
Villagers, pillagers, piglins- don’t eat people. I know piglins are half pig but listen. DONT EAT PEOPLE! You know the orcs? This is the same thing.
All zombies ever- technically edible. We’ve all eaten rotten flesh. Senshi would not be proud of us, it’s not very nutritious. Also, cannibalism.
Skeletons- I guess you could make a soup stock. But they’re better for fertilizer.
Vex and allays- ghosts. I don’t think we can make sorbet here either. I don’t think they work like that.
Bats- very small, not much meat. Hard to find and catch. But if you’re in a cave and in a pinch or just curious, sure why not
Puffer fish- cook very carefully. Probably just better for potions. But you can eat puffer fish, your chef just needs to be trained in how to cook it.
Mooshroom- now we’re talking. Beef, but with mushrooms. Comes with mushroom soup too. Usually raised for soup rather than meat, but still a good source of meat that’s pre seasoned.
Squid- mmmmm calamari… Laios enemy… also good for squid ink. I hear it goes well with pasta.
Cave Spider- venomous, could technically remove the poison like with puffer fish and boil the spider but I dont know. Small but have spawners, so you’ve have a steady supply
Spider- not venomous, and bigger. So I guess you could. Probably taste like giant scorpion since they’re both arachnids.
*dont eat spider eyes, they’re poisonous
Endermen- for personal reasons, I will not be eating endermen. They don’t even want to fight unless you antagonize them. More importantly, don’t eat endermen, it’ll probably fuck you up. They’re built for the end and full of chorus fruit. They’re also so skinny, not much to eat there. Ender pearls have a chance of giving you a parasite. And will probably teleport your stomach out of your body. You could try but it’s probably like jerky and you’ll see god.
Incidentally, I think chorus fruit tastes like vanilla
Polar bear- probably very tough meat. Very gamey. Beware though, they eat people too
Iron golem- that’s a robot. Don’t eat metal. DONT EAT REDSTONE! ITS RADIO ACTIVE.
Snow golem- probably makes good ice cream. Don’t eat it. Let it make ice cream. It’s just snow after all. It would just taste like water.
Blaze- it’s more of a spirit than an animal. Good for potion making, probably not tasty. A central core surrounded by rods, maybe that core has some meat on it, probably tastes a little spicy.
Striders- why? Why would you eat these poor babies? What did they ever do to you? They’re probably reptiles, so you could definitely eat them but could you live with that knowledge?
Elder guardian- really old puffer fish. Cut carefully for good sushi. But it’s such a hassel, you’re better off having a puffer fish. Plus, they’re endangered, so like, come on.
Guardian- jokes on you, it’s hollow on the inside. Check the mob bestiary, they have no internal organs. Could probably get some meat from the outer flesh but that’s also the spikes, so beware.
Ender mite- remember those parasites from ender pearls? This is them. Could def cook them though. They’re fair sized and full on meat. You’re probably be tripping balls though.
Ghast- like a squid, but balloon. They are filled with gas, to allow them to fly. So much like a dragon, likely have a gas sac that could contain gases that could ignite, be careful. But sky octopus. Lots of meat.
Magma cube- slime but spicy. Magma cream is probably yummy. We know it’s ok to ingest because it’s in potions, so I think it should be ok to eat. Just wait got it to cool a little
Slime- senshi has recipes for these buggers.
Shulker- I can only assume it tastes like living armour. It’s definitely a mussel
Silverfish- it’s a bug, it’s big, enjoy.
Wither skeleton and the wither- please, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT EAT THE WITHER! THIS IS HOW WE GET THE PLAGUE! YOURE GOING TO GET WITHERING AND DIE!
Sniffer- I know they’re really big, I know they’re probably full of meat and they have eggs, but look at their little faces. Could you really eat them?
The Ender dragon- I mean, you beat her, might as well I guess. Apparently dragon is delicious. But also, probably full of the end, probably going to fuck yup up a bit
And now, for the big one
Creeper- as we all know, creeper skin feels like dry, crunchy leaves. It’s a moss monster with a tnt block inside. So, if you carefully cut around the explosive, you now have a very dangerous vegetable. Thick “meat”, might make a good salad.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk

A bunch of head cannons (Maybe too much). Also in talking about the characters.
I think Dream is that one design where his skin is just the static tv screen. He just constantly emits that fuzzy noise, Sam crafted him the smile mask that he can see through so he doesn't scare people.
George is just kind of the server itself. He's the same species as Hannah, but a mushroom and more powerful. If he stays awake too long, the server just kind of freezes. This is also a reason XD keeps him sleeping, it's his way of talking to George and he thinks the server is like his soap opera of mortals.
Callahan is sort of like the person who makes sure George doesn't get killed or dies while asleep, making sure he's surrounded by mushrooms and such. Deer hybrid <3
Alyssa joined the server because she knew all her friends were idiots and didn't want them to die immediately. But once the elections rolled around, she felt the pressure of choosing sides and ran away to the desert, only keeping contact with Ponk. She actually lives just a couple miles from Foolish's summer home. Her communicator actually died after a couple months and she had no way of charging it, so she lost contact with everyone.
Sapnap is a magma cube hybrid and can jump higher than most, his natural temperature runs hotter, and is fire proof. Bad found him in the nether when he was maybe 10-15 years old.
Sam was actually a normal creeper, but gained player like sentience from being struck by lightning. Instead of becoming charged, he gained intelligence and met the others on the server. Callahan taught him some Redstone, but from there he figured out a lot on his own. He's also a creeper centaur.
Ponk is actually a descendant of a fairy, a lemon tree. Their mask was also a gift from Sam because after the second or third time their tree was burnt, their immune system was weakened a considerable amount. Alyssa also wore her mask for them.
Bad is a size shifting demon from the nether, more specifically soul sand desert. He uses soul fire to gain strength, so because the egg died when near it, he was just a little weaker than normal. Because he's a demon he needs a tie to the overworld to stay there, he tied his soul and lives to Skeppy.
Tommy was grown in a lab to be a hero, project: THESEUS. The lab gave him small enhancements, like slightly stronger and just a bit more resilient, to make the Above Average Boy (TM). He then ran away to meet Wilbur. When Dream asked Wilbur if he wanted to come to the server, he asked if Tommy could go first to see what it was like. He also actually really likes gardening and making up funny songs to Wilbur playing guitar. He also made funny lyrics for his discs, but he's still a bit scared to take them out of his ender chest. Other than bringing attachment, Dream also exiled Tommy to see what his lab enhancements could do.
Tubbo is an adaptive hybrid! His hair was blond, shifting to brown when Wilbur found him, getting blue eyes from Tommy, growing small horns under Schlatt, parts of his skin being static when Dream was "helping" him with his presidency, and parts of his scars tinging black and green from Ranboo and Micheal. Tubbo also helped Wilbur write part of the anthem. He likes living in the snow because the Manberg flag had magma blocks on it, casting a heatwave over the country, and after L'Manburg blew up it got really hot from the exposed stone in direct sun.
Fundy can actually hold his breath for a very long time and swim very well because of Sally teaching him and his salmon genes. The yellow things on his hat are actually shells, and the stripes on his jacket are trans colors. Also with his dreams, he saw Eret was going to betray them but didn't think it was real, or didn't want to. He also saw Wilbur blow up L'Manburg but chose not to believe it, thinking his father could still be saved. He actually saw pretty much everything, but didn't quite understand what they were until after doomsday.
The necklace Punz wears is one of those picture lockets, but he lost the picture and can't remember what it was. The first time Dream paid him was when Dream asked for help and Punz made an off hand joke about getting money, and then Dream thought he was being serious. Him, Dream, and Sapnap were like brothers, and Punz got sadder every time he saw Dream pushing people away and diving deeper into darkness.
Purpled is an aliensent to see if the planet was colonizable, but then crashed and was stranded, all his communications down and his ship barely able to hover fifty feet off the ground. When Quackity blew it up, he essentially got rid of his chance of ever going home. Purpled's species can shapeshift, so he turned himself into the first person he saw, Punz. Eventually before trying to communicate with the native life forms, he edited his form a little so they weren't identical, keeping purple eyes and antennae, changing the colors slightly, and changing the voice up. When he moves away from the main SMP, Ponk makes sure to check up on him and that he has a way to check his communicator.
Wilbur came a month after sending Tommy. His father being a patron of life and his mother the goddess of death, he met in the middle being born as a human. The only reason Ghostbur was as active and present as he was was because he was so connected to both life and death. Since his corpse was decaying for as long as it was, Wilbur is now super weak, his flesh is thin and his eyes are rotted and gone. Much like Ghostbur, Wilbur in limbo saw what people said about him, and Ghostbur could hear that from the back of his head. Now Wilbur can hear what people say about Ghostbur and he hates it, not wanting to be connected to what he thinks like a shell of himself.
Schlatt is a ram (duh) and actually does the fainting goat thing. So when he died of a heart attack, no one knew at first if he was actually dead or not. His alcoholism stems from the revive book, as the possibility of tampering with death made him existential and scared, so to cope he drank. There are also a ton of other stuff other than revival in the book, but it's in galactic.
Skeppy was just a normal human, but after making the pact with Bad, Bad put a spell on him. Parts of him turned into diamond, protecting both his and Bad's lives. He however, is unaware of this. With the egg, he would just sit on it, the diamonds chipping away to make room for the vines.
Eret was cursed by the Wither Cult, giving them white eyes and a slowly deteriorating memory. Not sure what to do, Foolish dropped them off at the SMP. Sometimes they would dream about old memories from before the curse, but it was just glimpses so he could never tell what they meant. Once they were king, they made the Herobrine shrine subconsciously, not really sure what it was after. They also had a strange affinity of beacons and resurrection, some of their memories resurfacing when they tried to help Phil and Ghostbur revive Wilbur after doomsday. The reason people are more scared of their eyes than any other wierd eyes was because he generally looks like a normal human, but the wither along with their Herobrine origins creates an uncanny valley that people are shocked by.
Jack had red and blue irises before crawling out of hell, but after coming back the whites of his eyes also turned red and blue. He always wears 3d glasses so no one noticed, but he just thought no one cared enough to mention it. He also has a bunch of scars and burn marks that no one but him can see, therefore no one asks about them or thinks something is wrong, cementing the idea that no one cares about him.
Niki is a blaze hybrid (stole this from @/420technoblazeit) whose fire hair color changes based on strong emotion, something she bond with Tubbo for as a fellow shifter. A soft yellow in L'Manburg, brighter orange in Manburg, hot pink on Doomsday, a soul fire blue with the syndicate (which Techno hates), and a dead grey when she found out Wilbur was alive. She was also old child hood friends with Ranboo and Eret, leaving Ranboo for the SMP. Ranboo, unfortunatly, doesn't remember much more than her name. She also knows galactic from Ranboo, so she talks about her troubles to Shy the Enderman. She doesn't really know how to talk to Puffy anymore after Doomsday or finding out how she wants to protect Tommy.
Quackity can perfectly replicate someone's voice and, with a lot of effort, can completely change his form to another player. He also has very small yellow wings, too small to fly, so he almost always hides them. He used to constantly change his voice for jokes with Karl, Sapnap, and George, but he doesn't like doing it now in Las Nevadas, as he sees it as unprofessional. However, sometimes he uses when he visits Dream, changing his voice to people like George and Sapnap to make torture more effective.
In the In Between and Other Side, Karl actually looks like his old skin, or his natural state (the big purple one that inspired his sweater). But most of the time in the normal world, he looks human. With effort he can bring out the interdemential being thing, something only Quackity and Sapnap know about. The more he time travels, the easier it becomes to change, and he's even started defaulting to the other form.
HBomb is actually just a normal news reporter, sent to interview and record what's going on in the server, his first big story being the election. Upon Doomsday, the stress of seeing everyone alone, fighting, and disconnected, he ran away from the world, essentially becoming a cat lady. His undercover reporter persona is actually the cat maid. He eventually came back to the server to see how he could help after Doomsday, befriending Niki again and living with her in the underground city.
Techno is a piglin, so he's scared of soul fire. He forgot to tell Phil before he decorated the syndicate room, so he just suffers in silence. He also does better when around a lot of gold, like in the nether, and he feels drained and slightly weaker without it. Instead of just putting gold around the area (it would ruin his property value), he just hibernates. He has an emerald earing, like all of the syndicate, but his is a locket that unfolds into pictures of the syndicate.
Ant always wears a red hoodie, now ruined by the egg, that used to be Red's. On Red's death anniversary, him, Bad, Skeppy, and Sam would make cake and put flowers on his grave. He missed the last one because it was during the egg, but for a brief moment after Puffy killed him he saw Red. Red then promptly and bluntly told him to stop being a pussy (haha, cat) and that he shouldn't do all this just to get him back, one of Ant's motivators to make amends with the people he hurt while with the egg. Ant is also a shapeshifter, but can only turn into a cat.
Phil actually used to work under Foolish as a patron of life but then he had a son with the goddess of death, so his title was removed so he could be with her and he became an Angel of Death. Kristin noticed how sad he was after being released, so she gifted him wings. They were however, destroyed on November 16th. His chat also serves as messenger pigeons, which were used to send letters to Wilbur.
Connor is actually just a hedgehog who somehow befriended Schlatt. Even before the haunted mansion, Karl vented to him about his time travel troubles, not knowing he was a sentient player. As a hedgehog, no one really cares where he goes, so he goes outside the server limits to meet his friends from the haunted mansion.
Puffy is a distant relative of Schlatt, but instead of politics she went into piracy. With her mom, she went travelling the seas. One say, a storm came and wiped out her ship, her crew, her mom, everything but her. The reason she survived was because Foolish saw her and saved her. Unfortunately, Puffy hit hee head in the crash and doesn't remember anything.
Vikkstar is the equivalent of a big time celebrity, so of course his endorsement of POG2020 was a big deal.
Lazarbeam is literally just a ginger bread cookie.
Ranboo has actually met a lot of the smp before actually joining. He's met Niki, Fundy, Eret, Punz, and Dream at least. He also sees the inverted colors Enderman see. His suit was actually a gift from Eret before they forgot how to tailor. He got the crown from Techno after joining the syndicate, claiming he didn't want any syndicate members to look like trash.
Foolish came to the server most recently to check up on Eret, but he couldn't bring himself to leave again. When Puffy adopts him, he can't say no because he remembers saving her. His initial goal was to kill an ender dragon to claim the XD title and become a full god like DreamXD, but after realising someone already killed it he went into his totem if death phase. Upon meeting Eret, he got over it and they went on some silly adventures, Foolish now taking a more peaceful route.
Hannah is essentially a weaker George, as her power is tied to the plants themselves and not the entire server. She however has a lot more physical power because rose dryads like to fight because they have thorns. Since roses can be taken out a lot easier, she is essentially a glass canon. Also when around any plant, she can make it grow faster than normal.
Any guest on the server? Corpse, Pokimane, Lil Nas? They were all Slimecicle. That's how he knows where everyone is from, even outside of Las Nevadas. No one else knows this. He's also ancient, if he met Phil they would probably recognise eachother. There was an actual Charlie Slimecicle who was not a slime, but after being launched into orbit this Slimecicle decided to impersonate him.
Michael Mcchill is a sort of bounty hunter. He came to the server after hearing of all the crime, assuming there'd be a lot of bounties to collect. However, he soon learned that no one really cares if you commit a crime. He then took to reading news articles made by HBomb to see if there were any past open bounties. But after reading for a while about the server's wronguns, mostly Dream, he began to sympathise with them. And he's also a speedrunner, so maybe he could help with some bounties across other servers!
This was a very long post and i apologize, but it was so fun to finally write all these thoughts down! I hope you liked them! I can't even fit all the tags I want.

Minecraft headcanons no one asked for
a/n: olcvfgmlkfm this hit me so randomly i dont even know. enjoy!! under the cut due to length!
★ Characters: Rin, Yukio, Mephisto, Amaimon.
★ Words: 1,6k.
Rin:
Tumblr media
this sweetheart loves playing with you whenever you ask him to! it relaxes him a lot, plus just having fun with you is making him really happy.
he stays somewhere near you, ALWAYS. he’s way too embarrassed to admit he’s scared (same Rin, same), so whenever he yelps or jumps on his bed because he heard a zombie growl, you can laugh as much as you want, but don’t be surprised if he shoots a glare at you and pouts.
he’ll bring you whatever you want. wood? fine. iron? no problem, he’s already on his way to find a cave (even if he’s afraid of caves.. he’ll do it for you).
he’s not very good at building, so usually he leaves it to you, and it doesn’t really matter whether you live in a “house” made out of dirt or a full ass mansion; no matter what your building skills are, he’s gonna praise you anyway.
sucks at parkour. DON’T ask him to play a parkour map, he’s gonna whine and barely make one jump.
speaking about bad jumping, he’s really clumsy and somehow always ends up with the highest death streak. for example, he’s sprinting to kill a pig, but somehow doesn’t notice a fucking lava pool below him and jumps right into it. accidentally hits a zombie piglin (or pigman, depends on what version you play on) and he’s dead.
HOWEVER, he’s the guy who gets really lucky. do you remember/have a person/friend that always manages to get diamonds first? yep, it’s him. gets the best enchants. both on books and tools or armor. he also gets the ender dragon kill first too.
he won’t play without optifine and texture pack other than the default one. he hates it. his fave is faithful and if it doesn’t work, he’s constantly commenting on how the default one is hurting his eyes.
he will NOT survive listening to both disc “11″ and “13″ he hates it. don’t play it unless you want him to cry.
hasn’t played alpha nor beta versions, but he likes watching vids of it! he gets very nostalgic, which honestly bewilders him because he started playing way after beta. sometimes you can catch him listening to the old soundtrack all teared up, or falling asleep to it.
LOVES GREEN PARROTS. one of them is named after you.
MAY I INFORM YOU, HE DOES PLACE HIS BED TOGETHER WITH YOURS.
Yukio:
Tumblr media
unlike rin, he’s always complaining about you asking him to play, but he’s obviously gonna do it (because he loves u,, even if he says he doesn’t). it also relaxes him, but mostly, he likes it because he’s able to get his mind off of “adult things” and finally get some rest.
wooo, he’s the brave one. he isn’t afraid of zombie gurgles or anything like that, so he’s always going to caves first (and gets lost because he’s literally going deeper and deeper FDMKFMV). however, there’s one thing that always startles him... cave sounds. he doesn’t scream, but if you’re near him, you can sometimes witness his character spinning or jerking his head in another direction because of it vcxkvnjhbv
don’t, i repeat, dON’T make fun of him afterward. he’s gonna go all the way back to you and kill you (and then go back mining.. like nothing happened).
the perfectionist. always mines all the resources he sees; during building something he also always makes sure everything’s proportional. gladly counts blocks for you, if your brain can’t work anymore.
now, building! not very skilled with building houses, but he likes building simple decorations, like fountains, gardens or farms. despite him always claiming it’s bad, his work always looks very detailed. not very good with ideas of those things at first, so mainly at the beginning he always finds some inspirations on the internet, but later gets the hang of it and builds his own ideas!
his favorite place to have a house in is somewhere near the ocean.
likes default textures. too used to have anything else.
doesn’t like listening to in-game music, unless it’s something from beta or alpha versions (like “Haggstorm” or “Wet Hands”). Usually listening to his own favorite songs on Spotify.
His favorite disc is “Far”. It used to be “Cat”, but due to him obtaining it like 3000 times he stopped liking it. nor hearing it anywhere near.
when he goes out to get resources and/or food, he comes back with full inventory and shulkers, just like a father that’s about to feed his kids. minimum 10 stacks of iron, coal blocks and food. the nearest 10k chunks of caves is already explored, so you better be ready for a long, lONG WALK to get something new.
he’s also fond of beta versions, but rarely plays them without you.
Mephisto:
Tumblr media
this motherfucker wants to literally speedrun every fucking game. meanwhile you’re busy making a wooden pick, he’s out there typing “can’t wait to beat the dragon and get elytras~! ★”
remembers literally every recipe for all items and alchemy. personal minecraft wikipedia right there.
he MUST have a fucking mansion, otherwise, he isn’t playing. fortunately, he’s tried building before, so he’s perfectly capable of building one himself. it’s all made out of pink wool and concrete, along with white concrete accents here and there.
adding to the previous one, he also has a great decorating sense. the rooms look very good, space is filled nicely and is both pretty and practical. the mansion itself looks very good on outside and inside.
of course, the main bedroom that’s designed especially for you two looks WAY TOO GOOD. I'm not even gonna start on him messing with plugins and making it even prettier.
his skin is a random, pink anime girl.
master with redstone. everything’s automated, there also might be hidden rooms with surprises. there’s a hidden shrine dedicated for you. he hasn’t told you about that though... >_>
even though he gets many useful things from the swamp biome, like lily pads or that cyan flowers, he hates this biome with a burning passion. if he sees it anywhere near his render distance he’s spasming and immediately voicing his annoyance. hates that specific, “dirty and unsightly” green water and grass color.
he doesn’t do much mining, but happily goes with you if you ask him to. even if he has no armor on, he never dies. NEVER. there might be 6 creepers but he somehow survives their explosion.
not scared at all. he knows this game like the back of his hand. he might, however, attempt to scare YOU instead. on purpose. or accidentally hit you so you fall from a large height and die. if you get upset at him afterward, he’s gonna give you even better stuff you’ve had before.
HE LOVES PLAYING ALPHA AND BETA. he started to play probably around very early alpha, so coming back to such simpler times is making him somewhat nostalgic (even if he denies it). on those versions, he builds things that used to be popular back in the day, like simple towers of cobblestone or houses inside mountains. it hits him hard when old soundtrack plays.
Amaimon:

he’s very, very confused. first off, he’s not used to the game at all, but then, he googles almost any recipe or asks you thousands of questions about how to make things. after some time, he finally figures out that there’s a book with recipes in game.
he might steal your items, but usually, he gives you back better items. for example, you notice your iron pickaxe is missing, but suddenly he sprints into the house and throws at you diamonds.
oh, he’s aware of the existence of chests, but for some reason, he likes throwing various items at you. he runs off afterward, leaving you with everything on the ground.
don’t introduce him to bedrock edition, he hates playing minecraft with a gamepad, and will smash it immediately. java edition is the only help for this man.
he’s also clumsy, like Rin. he manages to do that less than him somehow, but he tends to die pretty often anyway. his deaths are the stupidest, sometimes he doesn’t even bother explaining it. he literally can die with gravel suffocating him.
once he goes to the nether, he doesn’t wanna go back to the overworld. he says something along the lines of it being similar to gehenna or whatever, but. no matter what version it is - pre- or post- update 1.16, he likes it and that’s it.
his favorite biome in the overworld is jungle - mostly because of the lively color of grass, but also tall trees. he likes having there treehouses and always asks if you can build one (because he sucks at building. even worse than Rin >_>). his fave in the nether is blue forest or basalt biome - however, he becomes mad quickly on the second one due to frequent gaps filled with lava and magma cubes.
he likes normal slimes though. he even has a pet slime!! QwQ
he named his pet slime after Behemoth. keeps it safe in a glass cube and checks on it regularly. Behemoth doesn’t know about it doe.
he bullies every single villager that’s within his sight. burns their homes. the only thing that survives is the iron golem because he thinks it’s cool.
plays with the basic Steve skin. partially because he doesn’t know how to change it and that he isn’t determined enough to look for any.
forgets that crouching exist and falls off almost every cliff or anything that’s considered high.

Hello yes I am starved of team ZIT content and I have been watching their Hardcore Hermits stuff again. May I request a HCH hurt/comfort ZIT one shot?
This was fun! Thanks for the ask and I hope you enjoy!
Summary: Team ZIT find themselves in a sticky situation in the Hardcore Hermits nether (note: not set during any particular season of HCH)
...
  Every member of Team ZIT had been to the nether thousands - maybe even hundreds of thousands - of times, but in a world where even a single death would separate them from their friends for the rest of the competition, it was safe to say their nerves were on-edge.
  “Well, at least we got an achievement just for getting here,” remarked Impulse, clutching his trident and shield as tightly as he could as he stared around the unforgiving fire realm. “But I say we leave and come back once we get diamond gear.”
  “Oh c’mon, there’s TONS of easy achievements here,” Tango said dismissively. “We’ll be in and out. Ten minutes. Twenty, tops. Now let’s go find a fortress.”
  Tango led the way down the dunes of netherrack, with Impulse just behind him and Zedaph bringing up the rear.
  “I predict at least one of us will fall into lava and die a horrible, painful death,” said Zedaph cheerfully. “Probably Impulse. And we won’t even get to use that pretty trident of his.”
  Tango snickered. “I still can’t believe you got a trident BEFORE getting diamond gear.”
  “You know, we’re EXTREMELY lucky I got loyalty on this thing,” Impulse responded, “cuz I know for a fact that the only other long-range weapon we have on us is Zed’s bow.”
  “And I have no arrows,” Zedaph said helpfully.
  Tango and Impulse stared back at him.
  “Well, that’s not very useful,” remarked Impulse.
  Zedaph shrugged. “You told me to bring a bow; you didn’t mention arrows, so I forgot to- TANGO, TANGO, TANGO!”
  Impulse whirled round as Zedaph shrieked, and found Tango leaping across a wide gap onto a floating island with nothing but lava below it.
  “Tango, oh my God!” yelped Impulse. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
  “Trying to get advancements, here. Now come ON!”
  “No, you come back here!” Impulse pointed impatiently at his feet like a master calling his dog. “We’re not going that way.”
  Rolling his eyes, Tango took a run-up and jumped back over the gap, causing Impulse and Zedaph both to wince.
  “Stop doing that, man!” Zedaph said. “You do remember that once we die, we’re dead permanently in this world, right?”
  “Yeah, yeah,” sighed Tango. “Come on, now.”
  He took off jogging to the left. His friends did the same, knowing they’d be left behind if they didn’t match his pace.
  “Tango, seriously, let’s go and come back when we have diamond armour,” said Impulse. “Iron armour doesn’t do a lot against ghasts.”
  This time, Tango simply ignored him.
  He kept going until he reached the edge of a cliff. One look told him the land below was too far down to jump, so he simply changed direction again.
  “Wait!” Impulse shouted, he and Zedaph struggling to keep up. “Tango, wait for us!”
  “Hurry up!” Tango called back impatiently.
  “Tango, watch out for the-!”
  Zedaph’s warning was cut off as a ghast’s fireball blasted the area right in the middle of the group. The force of the projectile shoved all three of them backwards; Tango and Impulse were far enough away from the cliff that they were in no danger but unfortunately, Zedaph wasn’t so lucky.
  “Zed!” yelled Tango in a panic, catching sight of Zedaph’s flailing arms as his friend disappeared over the edge of the cliff.
  As Impulse swiftly took down the ghast with his trident, Tango rushed to the edge of the cliff and looked down.
  Thankfully, Zedaph had avoided the large pit of lava mere feet to his left, but the fall had clearly injured him; even from this height, Tango could see his friend’s left leg and arm both bent at painful-looking angles.
  His heart pounding, Tango carefully created a netherrack staircase going halfway down, before jumping off and dropping the rest of the way. Landing without a scratch, Tango rushed to Zedaph’s side and helped him sit up. “Zed, are you okay?! Talk to me!”
  Zedaph was groaning in pain, his chest heaving. “I-It hurts, T-Tango…! I c-can’t feel my l-leg…!”
  “Oh no, oh no, oh no…!”
  “Tango!”
  Impulse appeared out of nowhere and leapt in front of Tango, lifting his shield to protect his friends from another ghast fireball. After taking out this ghast with his trident as well, he turned back to Tango and Zedaph. “We gotta go, quickly!”
  “How? Our end portal’s up there!” Tango pointed upwards with a shaky finger. “How’re we gonna get there without dying?”
  As Impulse opened his mouth to respond, he spotted a pair of gigantic magma cubes hopping towards them.
  “Well, we can’t stay here!” Impulse moved around his friends and crouched slightly, ready to defend them. “Go make a cave in the netherrack so we can look at Zed’s wounds. Quickly!”
  Tango carefully lifted Zedaph up and slung his friend’s uninjured arm over his shoulder, supporting him without further injuring Zedaph’s leg or arm. Zedaph was clearly half-delirious from pain, but he was conscious enough to not be a hindrance as Tango hurriedly mined out a small cave in the netherrack cliff and gently lay Zedaph down on the rough surface inside.
  After managing to kill only one of the magma cubes, Impulse rushed away and joined his friends in the cave, placing down two fences he happened to have on him to keep out monsters.
  “Where does it hurt, Zed?” Impulse asked gently.
  Zedaph’s voice was strained as he replied, “A-Arm. And l-leg. B-Broken.”
  “Well, I dunno about your arm but your leg’s definitely busted,” confirmed Tango grimly. “Without a healing potion, there’s no way you’re walking on it without a ton of pain.” He turned to Impulse. “Do you have the healing potion on you?”
  Impulse didn’t even need to check his inventory. “No, I didn’t bring it. I didn’t seriously think we’d be here for very long with IRON tools and IRON armour.”
  “Can you not start this again NOW?” snapped Tango. “I messed up, alright!? I just want to do well in this competition.”
  “At the expense of your best friends’ lives?” Impulse retorted. “Look at Zed! Look what you did to him! He’s in pain and it’s all your fault!”
  Tango opened his mouth to snap back, but his gaze flickered down to his quietly groaning best friend and the words died on his tongue. This… This really WAS his fault, wasn’t it? It was his fault that Zedaph was in such horrible pain. He had caused this.
  His stomach dropping, he staggered back a few steps and sat down heavily on the netherrack floor. Burying his face in his hands, he cried.
  Most of Impulse’s fury left him as he gazed down at Tango. Sighing quietly, he sat down next to Tango and put his arm over his shoulder. “Hey… It’s alright. I’m sorry; I didn’t mean what I said. I want to do well too, but we only will if we work as a team. You do know that, right? That we’re a team?”
  When he got no reply from his friend, Impulse gave him a quick one-armed hug. “Let’s just get outta here, okay? We can talk more when we’re back in the overworld.”
  After a moment, Tango lifted his head and nodded wordlessly, wiping his eyes dry with his sleeve. He gave a small smile, and Impulse mirrored it. “Okay, let’s… let’s go.”
  The two rose to their feet and approached Zedaph, who had passed out by now. “Tango, you’re stronger; can you take Zed while I mine out a staircase back up to the portal?”
  Tango nodded again and lifted Zed almost-effortlessly into his arms. His newly discovered sense of determination gave him enough strength to hold his best friend as tenderly as he would hold a baby. All he could think of was that Zedaph needed him, so he couldn’t let him down.
  After what felt like hours of mining and climbing, the group made it back to their nether portal. They quickly stood inside it, letting the portal transport them back to their base in the overworld.
  Tango immediately lay Zedaph down on his bed, while Impulse rushed off to get the healing potion. He returned with it and carefully poured it into Zedaph’s mouth. Then the two stepped back and watched their friend anxiously as the potion worked its magic.
  Finally, Zedaph’s eyes fluttered open and registered Tango and Impulse standing next to him. He frowned, taking in deep breaths. “Is my leg supposed to feel like it’s been trampled on by several ravagers?”
  “Yup, that’s how you know the potion’s working,” Impulse replied wryly.
  “Well then, it must be working.” Zedaph craned his neck to look down at his leg, as if he was checking that it was still there. “Because it feels like a ravager is jumping up and down on it right now.”
  Tango couldn’t help a quiet laugh as he ruffled his best friend’s hair. “Glad you’re feeling better, buddy. I’m… I’m sorry I did this to you.”
  Zedaph shook his head. “It wasn’t your fault, Tango. We weren’t prepared for the nether, and we know that now. Next time, we’ll make sure we’re fully aware of any and all ghasts trying to blast our butts off.”
  This time, all three of them laughed. Even though their expedition had been a horrific failure, at least they were all alive. They were all okay.
  And as long as they stuck together, they could survive anything.

Our Metaphorical Get-Along Sweater
In which Wilbur thinks of Ranboo as an arch-nemesis while Ranboo is just There Vibing and also, Phil has adopted Ranboo, making for two very different siblings and a very interesting relationship
[Fluff, comedy, fix-it fic, some light angst that is immediately softened, work in progress; every chapter will swap POV]
Chapter Two: A Second Chance From The Second Son
     For Ranboo, coming home empty-handed was always the worst part about his trips, second only to not seeing Michael for a while. So, before even stopping at home to unload, the moment he got back to familiar lands he headed to Snowchester, spending the entire afternoon with his son and only heading back to his own house as the sun was beginning to set. In truth, he had been grateful for the accidental timing regarding his trip. It allowed him time to think. Although he and Phil had discussed Wilbur before, he hadn’t been alive during that, and Ranboo honestly felt a prick of guilt at how he knew that might’ve changed things-- he highly doubted Phil would’ve adopted him had Wilbur still been alive, after all.
     It definitely didn’t help, either, the way Tommy had spoken about Wilbur-- though Ranboo had known Ghostbur, and knew that in some ways they were likely similar, they weren’t the same-- it made him wary of Wilbur; not just for himself, but for Tommy and Tubbo’s sake as well. Still, he believed in second chances, and a second chance at life was something pretty rare. He wanted to be optimistic. And although Phil was going to be biased, because Wilbur was his son-- his son that he had raised from birth, especially-- Ranboo trusted Phil’s judgement on people more than nearly anyone else save for his husband. He wanted to get to know the man. Not the man he used to be, not the man he was, but the man he is now.
     After putting away the small amount of trinkets and excess materials Ranboo had picked up on his adventure, he checked his memory book to see if it had anything to offer in terms of what his next step was. Oh, right! He’d wanted to give Wilbur a proper tour of what had changed; Tommy had succeeded in showing him around, after all, but if Ranboo knew Tommy (and he did, very well), there was no way Tommy had actually given a good explanation of the events behind the changes to the man. Now he just had to offer. He just… had to do it. Yeah. Noting that the sun had only just set, it was reasonable to assume that Wilbur and Phil were still awake. Very very awkwardly for someone who had every right to be there given his adoption, Ranboo knocked on the door to Phil’s house.
     Phil let him in with an easy smile. “Ranboo, mate, you don’t have to knock y’know.” It kind of felt strange not to though? Considering the recent change in situation. “Yeah, but with Wilbur here, I don’t wanna interrupt anything, y’know?” He asked Phil with an awkward laugh. “You’re just as much part of the family as he is,” Phil assured, and Ranboo felt himself untense a little. “Welcome back from your adventure, by the way! Were you successful?” Phil asked, realizing he hadn’t yet. “I don’t wanna talk about it,” Ranboo moaned miserably, and Phil laughed. “Not well then! Got it.” Ranboo shook his head. “Everything else I can find no problem! Like, come on, man, this one isn’t even for me.” The two stood in a pleasant moment together.
     Right. The reason he was here. He had to get it over with one way or the other. “Hey Phil, I was wondering actually, is Wilbur around…?” He asked before he could convince himself not to. Phil looked at him quizzically. “Yeah, he’s upstairs. Wil!” Phil called, and Wilbur immediately stuck his torso out the ladder hole, looking like he very much would rather be elsewheres. “Ranboo wanted to speak to you,” Phil explained, and Wilbur disappeared for a moment before climbing down the ladder properly. “Okay, I’m here, I see you. What’s up?” Wilbur asked, and although he looked like he’d been interrupted genuine curiosity colored his words. Admittedly, it was a little intimidating to have Wilbur’s attention. Ranboo had just… heard so much about him.
     “Oh, well uh… you got a tour of what had changed from Tommy, right?” He started. Wilbur tilted his head. “Yeah, you could call it that.” Ranboo nodded; he’d expected something like that. “Well, I was wondering-- if you’re free tomorrow, would you like a proper tour? I know Tommy is horrible at being straightforward and explaining things like that, so it might be nice to have an actual explanation right?” Ranboo asked. There it was, the big, awkward sibling bonding question. Huoagh. Ranboo turned to Phil. “No offense, Phil, but you and Techno don’t really…” Ranboo trailed off, but he didn’t need to finish his sentence. Phil shook his head. “None taken, you’re right. Aw that sounds nice eh Wil? It’d be good to get you all caught up.” Wilbur looked a bit taken aback, but not unpleasantly so. That was good! That seemed like a good thing.
     “You know what? Sure, Ranboo. I’m down to try that.” Ranboo grinned in excitement. “Awesome! Okay, tomorrow, I’ll give you the grand tour.” Wilbur nodded, continuing. “I’ll admit Tommy left some holes in his stories-- almost as big as the one I apparently left in L’Manberg,” Wilbur added with dark chuckle. Ooohhh okay that didn’t seem like the greatest sign but dark humor wasn’t necessarily indicative of anything bad-- though it did, admittedly, make Ranboo feel a little wary. Caution would probably be best when handling everything. But that was okay! Ranboo was a cautious guy. He felt confident in his ability to, well, be cautious. “Yeahhh that’ll happen with Tommy,” Phil said to Wilbur in agreement, and Ranboo nodded in turn. The three chatted idly for a short bit, and then Ranboo left for the night, ready to sleep in his own bed after a week of travel, with the plans for tomorrow secured.
------
     Ranboo woke up and did his morning routine, bracing himself for the plans he’d made for the day. In truth, he wasn’t really sure what to make of Wilbur still. He’d had an entire week to think about it, but it just seemed so complicated. He’d heard good things from Phil and terrible things from Tommy, about the man who had created a nation and also was now his older brother. It would be good to get to know him, though, Ranboo reasoned-- so the tour was a good idea. Ranboo found Wilbur tinkering with some things in Phil’s house, having very clearly been awake for quite some time. “You’ve been up a while,” Ranboo said, and Wilbur looked about to scowl at the intrusion before settling himself into a more neutral expression and nodding. “The sunrise; It’s beautiful,” he explained-- and suddenly Ranboo felt as if Wilbur might be okay after all. They headed off in relative silence aside from a passing remark from Wilbur about the magma cubes that consistently jumped to their deaths; the only thing of note about the nether was the vaguely safer renovation of the community portal.
     “The community house looks different,” Wilbur commented, and Ranboo grimaced. “Oohhh yeah. It got blown up. Dream--” At least, as far as anyone knew it was Dream-- “Blew it up and framed Tommy for it while he was in exile. He used it as an excuse to blow up L’Manberg. With uh, Phil and Techno’s help actually, but y’know.” An unreadable expression crossed over Wilbur’s face, and he nodded. “Dream’s a tricky bastard, that doesn’t surprise me. I do remember Tommy’s exile, now, by the way, it--” Rage flashed across Wilbur’s face, almost too quickly for Ranboo to take note, but not quite quick enough-- before he took a breath and looked calm again. “It was rough,” He surmised instead. Ranboo nodded. That had been a horrible time. He’d tried writing letters, but, well. Ranboo decided to focus on the tour before the queasy feeling in his gut grew too big.
     “Over therrrre is Kinoko Kingdom or whatever it’s called-- Sapnap and Karl live there I think? Also George maybe but that guy is always asleep so honestly who knows,” Ranboo said, gesturing to their right/the East. Wilbur looked like he was calculating something. “So there are new nations here after all?” Ranboo shrugged. “I mean I wouldn’t really call it a nation-- I don’t think there’s a government so much as a lot of buildings that nobody even lives in honestly.” Wilbur just frowned at that, despite it being true. Ranboo was beginning to think that maybe it’d be a lot harder to get on his good side than he’d initially hoped.
     Ranboo walked out the other side of the community house and Wilbur trailed behind idly, long-legged stride making up for his casual pace. His dark eyes flitted about, searching for things the passage of time had and hadn’t touched. “The prime path is pretty much the same,” Ranboo said, desperately hoping the shift away from nation-talk would lighten Wilbur’s mood. “Oh! On the right there is Captain Puffy’s therapy office. I’ve heard about it from--” Actually, that was none of Wilbur’s business, no offense to him. “--From somewhere. That’s why it says ‘therapuffy’ on the sign.” Personally, Ranboo was very pleased with that pun. Puffy had done a good job with it. And Wilbur-- Wilbur actually quirked an eyebrow. “She’s started a therapy office, has she?” He mused, and Ranboo hummed in affirmation. “I s’ppose that’s useful. I’m sure a lot of people around here need it.”
     “Apparently there’s a discreet box you can drop a note into to make an appointment,” Ranboo said, which was about as close as he was going to get to saying his real thoughts which were more along the lines of oh my god PLEASE get therapy you of all people need it especially considering you made your dad help you kill yourself and have been dead and gone for years in what you essentially described as hell. “That’s cool,” Wilbur said, and Ranboo nearly wilted a little, but he did take a small victory in the lingering glance that he noticed Wilbur left it towards it. Ranboo allowed himself to hope just a teensy bit that maybe Wilbur would visit again after the tour with nobody else around.
     “On the left here is Niki and Puffy’s flowershop and bakery, and Fundy and I’s icecream shop we made to compete with them. Ours is just a little bit taller,” Ranboo added smugly. “They’re both kind of abandoned though, because--” Oh, that was not a good look on Wilbur’s face. It passed almost immediately, which was almost even more concerning. “Go on, Ranboo, what were you saying?” Wilbur prompted softly, and Ranboo hesitated but it was clear he wasn’t going to get anything out of that look. It was also, frankly, not something he was willing to unpack with the older man. “They’re both kind of abandoned, because I haven’t seen Fundy in a long while and I think Niki and Puffy kind of drifted apart? They were dating at one point I think,” He rambled, and relaxed a bit as Wilbur smirked, easily caught up in gossip and drama.
     They passed by Church Prime-- Wilbur declining to go in for personal reasons-- Punz’s house, the karaoke stage, and the weird, pale-checked building, which had all been there since long before Ranboo’s time and thus didn’t earn anything more than a passing, melodramatic comment from Wilbur about familiarity and stagnation and how sometimes even the land couldn’t change. Ranboo didn’t really think that was a fair assessment, though. Basalt columns supported chunks of Punz’s house that bore visible fire damage. Nearly every time he’d passed by the checked building the inside had been renovated. He was pretty sure even the karaoke stage had been patched up a few times. But to be honest, being around Wilbur was awkward. Even the idea that he knew things that Wilbur didn’t didn’t seem quite right, since Wilbur had been there first-- with both L’Manberg and being Phil’s son-- even if he’d missed some time. So for now, Ranboo would just stick to the facts.
     “That’s a Christmas building,” Wilbur said, aghast, pulling Ranboo out of his thoughts. “Hm? Oh! Yeah, that’s-- I think somebody lives there but I’m not sure actually. It’s definitely--” Ranboo made a noise, and Wilbur nodded his head at the noise. “Yeah. See, that’s something you and I can agree upon, Ranboo.” Wilbur then swivelled his head around and did a double-take. “Is that gay Target? ...Didn’t that used to be a walmart?” They passed the Targay, beginning the steep climb up the mountain, and Ranboo nodded, bemused. “It’s Targay, I think. Puffy renovated the walmart. It’s kinda been ‘opening soon’ since before I even got here though so I think it’s effectively abandoned. Tommy and I were talking about that the other day, actually.”
     Speaking of, they reached the top of the mountain and Tommy’s plot of land-- “Tommy’s shit-fucking-shack is the same,” Wilbur said dryly, fake disgust in his voice betrayed by the fondness on his face. And there it was-- proof. Not for anybody other than Ranboo himself, of course, but it was there. Wilbur did care about something. Or someone, at least. Someone that Ranboo cared about, too. That was enough to get Ranboo’s confidence in his plan back up a bit. Good, actually. He liked being optimistic. Preferred it without a doubt to anxiety spirals and the idea that everything was doomed. “Pretty much,” Ranboo admitted, “But there’s a bunch of flowers and stuff around that were planted when-- when he was gone for a bit. He took down everything else. I guess he likes it looking like a hole in the hill.” Wilbur rolled his eyes.
     “Do you want to see the hotel and the prison and Snowchester next, or would you like to visit L’Manberg?” Ranboo asked, hoping Wilbur wouldn’t realize the near-slip-up had been alluding to Tommy’s death. The mischievous, conniving look in Wilbur’s eyes clouded, and the man looked thoughtful. Ranboo waited anxiously, fiddling with his hands. “Let’s go visit L’Manberg,” He said, taking the lead, and Ranboo followed behind. The man’s strides were purposeful, and though Ranboo did think that Wilbur could change, something about the way he was moving hinted at… lingering ideologies about the former nation. Also, Ranboo was internally pouting a bit about Wilbur taking charge now. It was meant to be his tour.
     “I haven’t seen L’Manberg since I blew it all to kingdom come,” Wilbur remarked, Ranboo trailing nervously behind him. Confusion temporarily overrode his nerves, and Ranoo tilted his head. “Are you su-- really? I thought you said you remembered stuff that happened when you were-- Ghostbur?” Wilbur downright scowled at the mention of Ghostbur, and waved off the mention like he was shooing away a pesky fly. “I don’t see what Ghostbur has to do with that,” Wilbur huffed, and Ranboo was silent for a moment. Maybe-- hm, that would be interesting wouldn’t it? Because Ghostbur couldn’t remember the bad things, and the only example Wilbur had given of remembering Ghostbur’s memories was how awful exile had been for Tommy.
     Ranboo was so focused on theorizing and figuring out how he might propose said theory to Wilbur that he nearly careened right into the man, who had stopped dead right at the end of the prime path. Luckily, he saved himself the dignity and Wilbur his dramatic moment right at the last second. If Wilbur noticed, he didn’t comment on it. He was staring out over the massive crater. “Wow,” Wilbur breathed mournfully, “I really did do a number on this place, huh.” He stepped off the prime path, minding the pockets where fire and explosives had scarred the earth. Ranboo watched him walk across the glass-- eerily, like a ghost taking long-forgotten trails, the transparent glass helping the illusion. Except, no, Wilbur was alive, and more importantly--
     “You didn’t, actually,” Ranboo said bluntly, and Wilbur snapped out of whatever daze he had been in, the illusion shattered as the contradictory statement made him virulent and very much alive. “What?” Ranboo admittedly reeled a little at the tone, but come on. He didn’t. “You didn’t,” Ranboo reiterated; “Techno, Phil, and Dream were the ones to blow it to bedrock. Your explosion didn’t get anywhere close. And the reason I know that is because it flooded afterwards, but it didn’t even flood that deep. It’s why L’Manberg-- the one I knew at least-- was rebuilt on stilts,” Ranboo explained, carefully watching the expression on Wilbur’s face. The disdain on Wilbur’s face was slowly blotted out by confusion.
     “What do you mean rebuilt on stilts?” Wilbur asked, and it was definitely visible on Ranboo’s face when it clicked for him that his theory had been correct. Wilbur didn’t actually remember Ghostbur’s memories-- not all of them, at least. He only thought he did because he, well, couldn’t remember the rest. Ranboo knew the feeling. “And what does that look mean?” Wilbur scoffed. “Well, you--” Ranboo felt his face get hot, the center of attention and eyes being on him never really the best for his enderman instincts. Ranboo opted instead to glance down at the bedrock, visible through the glass. “After-- after you died. L’Manberg was rebuilt. Tubbo said the land was still good, so when it started flooding they built it up on stilts and platforms. It was mainly Ghostbur that did the rebuilding, actually!” With the last fact, Ranboo glanced back up at Wilbur, who was just staring, trying to process what he’d just heard.
     “So, you’re saying… I didn’t have a big impact on this place.” Wilbur prompted. Ranboo just sighed. “Well, you did. It just wasn’t all one thing, y’know? I know Tubbo-- I know Tubbo liked having L’Manberg around and so did Tommy. They were devastated when, well--” Ranboo gestured to the visible bedrock deep, deep below them-- “That happened. And Ghostbur rebuilt it, he made it beautiful, with the lanterns.” Ranboo paused. “Phil told me a bit about the lanterns, actually.” Something indiscernible crossed over Wilbur’s face. Then he looked almost bitter-- then-- Wilbur sighed. “See, Ranboo, I appreciate your trying to ‘tell me I’m not a bad guy’ or whatever,” Wilbur said, emphasizing the quotations with a false, mocking tone, and gesturing dramatically, “But it doesn’t really matter. This is my legacy! This crater. Everyone knows I’m a bad person. That’s just fact.”
     “...I don’t think you’re a bad person,” Ranboo said quietly, wincing at how unconvincing that must sound even as genuine as he meant it. Wilbur scowled. “Why? Because Phil said?” Ranboo immediately countered, offended that Wilbur thought he couldn’t have his own opinions. “...No, not because Phil said. Because I don’t know you at all. We haven’t gotten a chance to meet. And I think that maybe you were a bad person, if you blew up L’Manberg, but I also think that you were going through some things that affected you and I think that people can change. Even if it’s only been a few years for us, it’s been thirteen years for you. You aren’t going to be the same person as before. And you deserve a second chance. Everyone does.”
     Wilbur was the one to turn away this time, and Ranboo politely pretended not to notice the way his eyes had become more reflective and puffy. He seemed like he had something he wanted to say, and Ranboo would’ve let him, really-- but instead he looked out over the glass at the bedrock and rubble and dead vines that hadn’t yet been reclaimed by nature. Wilbur took a deep breath, and Ranboo waited in nervous anticipation. “What do you mean it’s ‘only been a few years for you’, Ranboo?” Wilbur asked. Oh. That had not been-- but he did have a good point. That was probably some important information that Tommy had apparently also left out.
     “Tommy… didn’t tell you that either. Figures,” Ranboo muttered. “Okay so, when Tommy came back and said he’d been gone for months, it had only been two days, so…” Ranboo began, and Wilbur held up a hand, signalling him to pause for a moment. “Thank you for the tour, Ranboo,” Wilbur said, “But this has been a lot. Let’s walk and talk on this one, eh?” He sniffed, not in a cry-y way, in his usual talking way, (even if one would think it’d be in a cry-y way-- Ranboo tried to not let his thoughts wander too far, though), and said softly, “I’d like to go home.” It did catch Ranboo a little off-guard. There was still more to the tour! But… well, it did make sense, L’Manberg being what it was. Yeah. That seemed reasonable. “Alright, yeah,” Ranboo said, and the two found their way back to the prime path. “So since Tommy had been gone for two days but lived-- or unlived I guess?-- for months-- we figured time moves differently in the afterlife or whatever it is, right?” Ranboo explained the time differential to Wilbur as they walked, and the man was surprisingly free of snarky commentary the rest of the way home.
-----
     They had trudged through the snow in complete silence, leaving Ranboo to his swirling thoughts about how he felt about Wilbur being his brother. He was trying hard to not think about it actually. The mix of the family thoughts and the snow on the ground did remind him that they never went to Snowchester for the tour. Honestly? Ranboo was okay with that. He hated to admit it, but he did not trust Wilbur around Michael. Okay, in all fairness, he didn’t really trust anyone other than Tubbo around Michael. Call it paranoia, or maybe “an awareness of what the rest of the people in the realm were like”. It was hard enough dealing with having a sibling when he’d only just gained a parent-- Ranboo really didn’t need to deal with whatever thoughts might come with Wilbur technically being Michael’s uncle. He shuddered to himself, and Wilbur glanced over questioningly, but Ranboo muttered about the cold and the man seemed to buy it.
     Phil was waiting for them when they got home, and opened the door warmly to both of them. He shot Ranboo a questioning look when he didn’t immediately come inside, but Ranboo subtly shook his head-- Phil giving an almost unnoticeable tilt upwards of his head in acknowledgement. Talk later. “Sooo how’d it go?” Phil asked conversationally from the doorway, and Wilbur was startled out of his own thoughts. Luckily he didn’t catch the exchange they’d had. “Huh? Oh.” Wilbur turned to Ranboo thoughtfully. “The tour was lovely, thank you. You definitely did a better job than Tommy, at least. And cleared some things up for me.” Something about Wilbur, Ranboo had noticed, was always guarded. He guessed that’d be the paranoia. Or maybe old habits from being sneaky-- Phil had told some stories of when Wilbur was younger.
     “I’m glad,” Ranboo said sheepishly though, “I’m glad I could do that and, clear some things up for you, yeah. And it was nice getting to hear your stories about the things that had been there for a while, too,” Ranboo offered, an open invitation for reconciliation, even if he still wasn’t sure what he’d done that made him and Wilbur get off on such a strange foot. Wherever Wilbur’s thoughts had been drifting to, they quickly snapped back at Ranboo’s softer tone. “Yes,” Wilbur said curtly, “Thank you for the tour, see you around.” And he promptly slipped past Phil, who was muttering baffled protests, into his room upstairs.
     “What?” Phil squawked out as the door shut, and then turned to Ranboo. “I don’t-- what-- I’m sorry Ranboo I genuinely don’t know what that was about.” And Ranboo laughed, relieved to have someone else sharing in his confusion, feeling at home with Phil for the first time in a while since it was just the two of them. “I don’t either!” He admitted, sharing in Phil’s trait for giggling in confusion. “But I think I said something that maybe he thought was nice and he doesn’t like the fact that he thought it was nice…?” Phil sighed, and then laughed. “Yeah, yep, that’d do it. Wil’s-- He’ll come around. He’ll come around. He just needs some time to adjust to the situation properly.” Phil narrowed his eyes at Ranboo. Uh-Oh. It was his dad mode.
     “And so do you. You can’t let him bully you around just ‘cuz he’s older or you think he gets more rights as my son due to seniority.” Ranboo flushed, feeling very caught-in-the-act. “Okay well hey wait a minute you didn’t have to call me out that hard,” he fake-complained nervously, and the two of them laughed. “I did though! It’s true!” Phil protested. “You’re as much family as he is,” Phil continued softly, and Ranboo desperately tried to not let his eyes water.
     Phil, either due to his allergies for prolonged contact with softer emotions, or sensing the need for a mood change out of worry for Ranboo’s allergies to water, decided to change the subject back to Wilbur’s style of siblinghood. “--And Wilbur will bully you around ‘cuz he’s older. And you can’t let him get away with it or he’s gonna get away with it forever,” Phil scolded, “Ranboo, you have to grow a backbone.” Well that just hurt. “I have one, that’s not fair!” Phil, however, put his hands on his hips and looked sternly at Ranboo, who was thoroughly pouting. Then he sighed and laughed softly. “Fair enough, fair enough. That’s a start.”
     They stood on the porch together for a moment, enjoying one another’s company. Phil sighed again. “How did the tour actually go? How was Wil?” He asked finally. Right! Now this was something Ranboo was prepared for. He straightened up, much to Phil’s dismay (because Phil was much shorter than Ranboo as it was). Ranboo laughed a little internally at that, but he was rather proud of his observation skills in this matter, so he was all business on the outside (not that this was business). “He was kinda melodramatic, honestly,” Ranboo explained, and Phil nodded; it did make sense that that wasn’t out of the ordinary. “I did point out to him where therapy was,” He added, Phil bursting out laughing in response to that with a sort of ‘bwahahaha’ sound. “Good,” Phil said, before letting Ranboo continue.
     “He did… he did get a bit weird when it came to L’Manberg,” Ranboo admitted, and Phil sobered some at that. “He took over the tour and started talking about how it was his fault. Phil, I don’t--” Ranboo leaned down in a conspiratorial whisper, Phil drawing him closer to the door and away from any windows or line of sight. “--I don’t think he actually remembers Ghostbur’s memories. He just thinks he does. He only remembers the bad things from Ghostbur’s memories.” Phil paused. “Ghostbur had bad memories?” His eyes widened. “Oh.”
     Ranboo nodded. “Yeah. I did clear up some stuff-- like how the bedrock leveling was you and Techno and Dream and not him, and he’d only been gone for a few years as opposed to thirteen like on his end.” Phil nodded some more, thoughtfully. “Ah, yeah. Thank you for clearing that up, Ranboo, I honestly-- time for me is, well, y’know.” He made a so-so gesture with his hand and Ranboo understood. “I do feel kinda bad about that, but uh-- I still stand by it. It had to be done. That government was corrupt.” Ranboo nodded. He had complicated feelings about that-- he supposed most of his feelings were complicated, actually-- but ultimately he respected Phil’s decision, and liked where he’d ended up because of it.
     “And I take it you didn’t show him Snowchester.” Ranboo grimaced. “Yeahhh I didn’t really want to have that conversation. Plus it was in the opposite direction of L’Manberg, so…” Phil nodded once again. “Good thinking. We can chat some more later, yeah? When you’re comfortable doing so in a place that isn’t the freezing cold.” Ranboo nodded, grateful that Phil understood his hesitations even if he didn’t agree with them. Phil patted Ranboo’s arm softly as Ranboo headed off and he went back inside, and Ranboo was grateful for the time alone to think. Because a lot had happened, but he did want to think through that particular scenario, since it was important. Even if the family aspect was strange. Even with Ranboo being particularly protective. And especially with his relationship to Tubbo being what it was. So the question was this: How did Ranboo want to go about introducing Wilbur to his nephew, Michael?

The bonus stuff for Rustic House Club! It’s mainly a bonus scene, stuff about the Helsmits and Helscraft, and some screenshots of NPG’s base because i built it (mostly). but there is also something that’s connected to Summoning Family, so people who read that might want to check it out. It’s at the bottom.
(also gonna tag @petrichormeraki because of that fact)
Helsmits
Xannes aka Evil Xisuma - not actually a true helsmit, but the admin of the Helscraft server.
NPG - Created by Grian before the Evolution server. He acts as Grian’s hels counterpart.
Grifter aka Hels!Grian - someone even the helsmits themselves fear. Has the powers of a Listener (which are essentially Hels!Watchers) and abuses them. Was trapped in season 4 of helscraft by Prof and has yet to escape.
ProfH192 aka Hels!Doc - Resident good guy of the server who helps out where he can, mostly by stopping Xannes’ schemes. (the H192 is because H for Hels since doc had an M which could stand for Minecraft and 192 because 77 is the atomic number for Iridium and 192.22 is its atomic mass) He’s a pig hybrid instead of a creeper hybrid and also isn’t missing his right arm because he never tried spiting a god like Doc did canonically.
Base Iridium - the Helscraft form of Area 77, Base is a synonym for area, though it starts with B, and we just covered the connection with 77 and Iridium.
Perfect Sense aka Hels!Mumbo - The evil genius of the server who makes advanced redstone machinery that is always more complex than it needs to be.
Perfect Sense and Grifter as a pair are sometimes called the evil match made in aether. Both of them apart are already bad enough, especially Grifter, but together they are so much worse.
TrueSymmetry aka Hels!False - Won the election for Emperor/Empress, though now she’s been dethroned by Sense.
WaltzWare aka Whiskey aka Hels!Tango - True’s running mate for the election. Instead of a blaze hybrid, he’s a Tempest hybrid (since they don’t have the nether and the aether has a mob called the Tempest). His nickname comes from the fact that while I saw the name WaltzWare and loved it, I also thought of Tango being from the NATO phonetic alphabet and W there is Whiskey.
DelayVS and Phedaz aka Hels!Impulse and Hels!Zedaph - Phedaz is a name I’ve seen around and I used Delay instead of Indulge like i’ve seen people use because Delay is more of an opposite.
There is no Hels! Team Zit aka PDW or whatever you want to call it. They do not get together like their counterparts and absolutely hate each other.
Helsknight aka Hels!Wels - I don’t have anything to add for him, I’m just including him.
BadtimeswithScar aka Hels!Scar - Ran for Emperor/Empress and lost. Is a warlock who actively works with the Hels!Vex. Running mate was BTripleO1000.
BTripleO1000 aka Trip aka Hels!Bdubs - More O’s and 0’s!!!
Glodhet1085 aka Hels!Iskall - Did you know Iskall means ‘ice cold’ in Swedish? Well now you do! And Glödhet means red hot according to google translate! The 1085 is because in this universe, the 85 on Iskall’s name is because he was a hitman before Hermitcraft and killed 85 people. I don’t think I need to explain further. He either hates Calcite or loves diorite. Maybe both.
LaxSprite aka Hels!Stress - I just did a name based on finding antonyms for the two halves of Stress’ name. Though specifically Sprite is because I was recently listening to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.
Other notes: Hels!Jevin is a magma cube. Cub is also working with the Hels!Vex ofc. Peanut is a dog and the hels!counterpart to Jellie. Rendog is probably Rencat and a were cat, or something to do with cats. IDK. When a hermit doesn’t appear for a season, the hels version is killed off. When the same hermit comes back, the hels version also returns. If anyone questions them, they just say ‘I got better!’ and leave it at that.
Helscraft aka Hels!Hermitcraft - The main world of the Hels dimension since it is populated by the hels versions of many influential minecrafters. Technically the Hels dimension should be referred to Helscraft itself, but the Helsmits stole that name and no one dares question them.
The aether replaces the nether and the end is based on the theory that’s sprung up with the introduction of the skulks and wardens that they used to rule the end but now the dragon does. Their end is filled with endermen with green eyes. Skulk instead of shulkers(they spawn in shulkerboxes), and the warden as a boss instead of the end dragon.
The overworld is sort of a mushroomy version of the normal overworld. Grass and its variants are replaced by mycelium and nylium. The trees there are also similar to the giant mushrooms that make up the crimson and warped forests, but they aren’t exactly the same. The oak variant is a sort of lightish pink wood color. Spruce is a blue tinted wood. Birch is bright white, jungle a dark green, acacia is purple, and dark oak is pure black. Water looks blood red, purplish in swamps. All the stone is some variation of deepslate and the other new stones. Deepslate for stone, dripstone blocks for granite, tuff for andesite, and calcite for diorite.

“Oh, before you guys go, could I make one request of you Xisuma?” the admin nodded, though a little reluctantly, and then NPG leaned in to whisper to him.
“There is something, or rather, someone in Hermitcraft that Xannes likes. Like, like likes. Maybe you could make it so he can visit, but only when I am with him?”
X listened, and then started nodding. “I believe that can be done, as long as you promise that he won’t cause too much destruction.”
“Well, I would also suggest allowing Prof too, but one of us has to stay to make sure that there’s something to come home to, especially with Sense being emperor now.”
“He’s wHAT?!” Xannes yelled, putting his helmet on. “Oh bloody fucking hell. How did he manage that.”
“Hey Xisuma! How about we leave now!” Grian quickly said, leaving both admins confused for a moment before they understood.
“I believe we can Grian.”
“Oh no! Don’t you dare leave with them! I swear if Sense ends up-”
NPG cut Xannes off. “Bye guys! I hope to talk to some of you soon!”
“Bye NPG!” Jrum waved, and then Xisuma took them back to Hermitcraft.
“So, what did you ask my brother?” Xannes asked NPG, who smiled.
“I made it so you can get to Hermitcraft, though it has a condition. I need to be with you so you don’t break anything.”
“That’s fucking stupid. Why would I want to go to Hermitcraft and not destroy stuff?”
“Because you have told Prof an I about your crush and it is obvious you really like him based on what seems to be a shrine in your closet to him.”
Xannes was glad his helmet hid his blush. “Uh, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m… I’mgonnagodealwithSensenowbye!” and the admin rushed out of the room, leaving NPG behind.

~~~~~~~~~~~
For the readers of Summoning Family:
“You can’t just get rid of me! I am the emperor of this world!” Sense shouted as he held up a death ray. “Meanwhile you have nothing!”
He was given no verbal response from the person in front of him, but they did pull out an axe.
“Okay fine, you have some baseline weapons. You think I care?! I don’t. I’m just trying to figure out why someone like you would team up with an idiot like him.” Sense gestured to where NPG was standing.
“Well I’m the one who told them about the whole emperor thing, so they asked me to be their running mate!”
“They don’t need a bloody fucking running mate. They aren’t running for the throne, they’re trying to usurp me!” Sense glared at NPG, giving the other person a chance. Before Sense could raise his death ray again, the axe was swung and the blade hit. Then before Sense could even scream, shackles were placed on his wrists and ankles. Chains linking the shackles to their pair on the opposite limb. The person then removed everything on Sense’s person other than his clothes which at this point were stained red.
Sense was forced to his feet, nearly falling over again immediately as the chains were yanked. The person gave a signal to NPG who gave a quick ‘okay!’ and then they were leaving, dragging Sense behind them, taking him to who knows where.
Chapter 1
[word count: 1467]
The sounds of fireworks crackled through the air and bounced off the building around them as two elves raced around the islands.
"Hurry up slowpoke! Im gonna beat you to the portal when we find it!" Impulse flew past the nature elf who struggled to stay in the air.
"Impulse wait- you know i'm not good at flying yet!" Zedaph yelped as he almost fell. Impulse chuckled as he shot off another firework.
They've been here for a few months now, but they were still adjusting to living in a place as wild the hermit islands. They came from a small elven city, so they've never heard of elytras till they met Xisuma. Impulse picked it up pretty fast, but it was taking Zed a while to get use to flying.
They flew for a while, gliding over the concorp buildings and all of the other amazing builds their fellow hermits have done. Finally, Impulse managed to spot a nether portal close by. Impulse slowed his flying and landed. A few minutes Zed came tumbling after. Impulse struggled to hold in his laughter as he jumped to grab Zed from falling into the portal. Zedaph shot a glare at impulse leaning against the portal trying so hard not to laugh.
"Ha ha, Are we going to go in or what?" Zed fixed his elytra and stared at the portal.
Impulse was still wheezing, struggling to say words. Zedaph rolled his eyes and punched the light elf in the arm. He jumped in and impulse soon followed.
In the nether, Zed pulled out his pickaxe and looked around. He wondered around with Impulse for awhile. They'd grab the occasional quartz, kill some magma cubes on the way.
"Hey Impulse? Why did we come here in the first place?" Zed said, kicking at some soul sand. Impulse brought him to the nether without actually telling him why.
"Oh! Uh, i just wanted to get away from the islands for awhile. Just take a break from all of it, you know?"
"We could have just gone to some other biomes or something, Why the nether?" Impulse sat there for a while before shrugging.
"Seemed like a good idea at the time, besides I needed some quartz so it all works out!" Zed laughed and walked over to a nearby edge. He sat down and looks over the nether. He guess this was relaxing. And that's when he spotted it. There was, A nether portal? The hub was far from here, so what was a portal doing out here?
"Hey Impulse? Come here" Zed hopped up and put on his elytra. Imp came up behind him and looked at him with a confused expression. He pointed over at the newly discovered portal.
"What's that doing there? The hub's over that way" he looked the other direction from it. Zed shrugged
"Maybe one of the other hermits put it there?" Impulse, being one step ahead of Zed was already sending a message over to the chat. They stood there for a while with no responses. Impulse decided they should go check it out. He grabbed Zed's hand as they jumped off the edge. He didn't trust Zed to fly over a sea of lava, the nature elf had fallen into water enough times for impulse to know. As they landed on the other ledge the portal was resting on, Impulse's communicator went off.
"Hm, seems no one put it here. X said it may be a stray portal from a different area" Impulse looked up to see a Zedaph investigating the portal. Then he shot Impulse a look.
"We should see where it goes!" he ran up to impulse and started dragging him to the portal.
"Eh, Are you sure we should? We might get in trouble with X..." Impulse said, while gently tugging on Zed's pull
"That's true... It'll be real quick! I swear!" When he finally managed to get impulse close enough to the portal, he turned around looking at him with pleading eyes.
"Fine! Just for a few minutes and then we're out! No telling X either!" Zed grinned at him as he went into the portal, pulling Impulse through with him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tango couldn't move. Was, Was this really happening? Did he really just made a portal to god knows where? He sat there for another few minutes, just staring.
When he finally managed to break from his haze, he cautiously got up and walked towards it. Was something supposed to come out? Or was he supposed to go in? He reached a hand out to the portal and slowly put it in. He quickly pulled his hand back as shivers ran through his body. His wings and tail shuddered as he held his hand to his chest. That was weird. He stood there, Waiting for something to happen. This was very anti-climatic.
Maybe he should just go back to the city. Destroy the portal and sell the supplies. Save himself from getting yelled at from the council. He sighed and ran his hands through his hair. Why did he do this? Of Course that book wasn't true. He hung his head as he walked over to his bag. Damn, he broke his pickaxe earlier. This was going to take forever.
He was getting ready to take down the portal when the noises the portal made became more frantic and loud. His ears perked up and he stood up straight. The purple haze started swirling faster and faster. He frantically looked around as he started to panic. Does that mean something was coming through? Was it gonna explode? Oh god what if it explodes. As his mind raced from thought to thought, something caught his attention. He hear distant voices coming from the portal. He soon realized that in fact, Someone was coming through. Hopefully humans!
He had to hide, And fast. He didn't want to scare them off by being the first thing they see. He quickly made his way to the of the bigger trees near by and climbed in it. He made sure he still had a view of the portal. Whatever was going to come out of that portal, He was ready.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going through nether portals were always weird. They always sent shivers through your body but its something you get used to. That's what Zed and Impulse told themselves at least. When they came out of the other side, Impulse nearly fell on the ground while Zed held his spinning head. New portals always had more of a punch to them.
When they finally got their bearings, they took in the place they were teleported to. A dark oak forest? They haven't been to one of these since they left their city.
"Woah, This is so cool! We should totally collect some supplies while were here!" Zed ran to one of the big mushrooms that was growing. He was amazed, they never grew This big back at their old city.
"Zed no, this was an in and out journey. We saw where this random portal led now lets go" Impulse was already getting ready to head back in.
"As come on Imp! Look at this! This mushroom is so big! We can stay for a little bit longer-" Zed was cut off by the shuffling of leaves.
Impulse quickly turned around and ran over to Zed. He scanned the area, looking for the tree that made said noise. That's when he spotted a tree that was still shaking. Impulse took out his sword and slowly inched his way towards the tree, making sure Zed stayed behind him. He wasn't sure what was in that tree, but he wasn't gonna let it hurt Zed. As they got closer the movement became more frantic.
That is until it stopped. Everything was silent. Impulse stood there, tightening his grip on his sword. Zed gently gripped onto impulse's shirt. The quiet wind rushing through the trees made this moment even more tense. Only the sound of leaves and grass. Did it go away?
Then there was a snap. Within seconds a large demon fell from the tree onto the forest ground, in a rather painful way. Zed and Impulse jumped back and stared in horror. Tango groaned as he pushed himself off the ground. He rubbed his back and took sticks out of his hair. That hurt.
"Oh shit..." impulse whispered under his breath. Zed hit him in the arm, seeing has the demon in front of them heard him.
Tango stopped all his movement and looked impulse in the eyes. The wind suddenly slowed and all that could be heard was their breathing. There were, Real, Live humans in front of him. His ears twitched and he quickly displayed a big toothy grin
The Phantom Obsidian
(A quick fic inspired by and expanding on my earlier post here. Infinite loses the phantom ruby and with it, his grasp on reality. He finds himself flashing through different versions of space-time until an old enemy steps forward to offer help in exchange for a small favor. Post Sonic Forces, somewhat pre-Sonic 06.)
Rating: PG-13 (for cartoon violence, mild swearing, physical descriptions of glitching)
* * * * *
Infinite knew something was wrong the moment the final kick connected with his chest.
He was angry, reckless after that plucky little upstart defused his sun. He knew that. And still he could not stop himself from pouring his anger into grand attacks that ended with a red shoe to his chest. But he never considered-- never conceived, in a million years-- that the ruby might fail him in the end.
Infinite dropped to the platform below like a bag of bricks. Every atom of his body felt like it had staggered left of center by a foot. In a flash his hand was on the phantom ruby, checking it for cracks. It felt whole. He withdrew, satisfied.
Then the glitching started. It felt like swatches of pins-and-needles numbness pulsing all over his body. Infinite stared at his own hand-- there and not-there, flickering in and out-- momentarily stunned.
The sound of the blue nuisance’s voice brought Infinite back. His first instinct was mortification. He couldn’t let the hero know he’d won-- couldn’t let him see this weakness-- how dare he look on with such pity?
“This isn’t over!” Infinite shouted over his shoulder, and made a tactical retreat.
His landing at the top of the fortress’ high tower was a clumsy one, all knees and elbows. Infinite was happy he landed at all, in this state. Eggman was waiting for him.
“So, Sonic slipped through your fingers a third time, hm?” The doctor said, drumming his fingers on his little flying chariot.
Infinite struggled to raise up onto his knees. “Doctor-- the ruby-- its power weakens--” he gasped. “I am slipping--”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Eggman said brightly, his cheer almost disguising the malice underneath. “But I’m afraid there are no sick days in the Eggman Empire.”
With that, he stooped politely and plucked the phantom ruby from Infinite’s chest like a cherry off a sundae.
The effect was immediate.
Infinite’s vision flooded black. He felt himself dragged bodily into a cold void. His stomach lurched. His limbs-- wherever they were in the continuum-- tingled with a mixture of numbness and electricity. He tumbled, his sense of up and down completely lost, until--
He arrived in the familiar emptiness of Null space. It echoed out around him to the edges of vision. Stray blocks floated here and there like schools of fish. Infinite’s nausea subsided. He let himself breathe. To be trapped in a realm of his own making was not such a terrible fate-- far better than the one he feared. Hell, he might even find a way out if that infernal blue nuisance had proved anything. Infinite considered this. Yes, he’d crawl his way out of obsolescence if he had to, and then have a couple of harsh words with his former employer. He reached out lazily for a nearby floating cube.
As he did so, a new wave of energy washed over the space and Infinite arrived at the terrible conclusion that this was not his that it did not belong to him anymore and the glitching resumed with a vengeance and surged up his arm--
He felt a colder, emptier, vacuumous void open across his back and suck him in. Infinite opened his eyes for one brilliant second and saw a space station-- how did he know that?-- shaped like the moon sliced in half--
-- he blinked again and found himself falling over an endless ocean, a floating island on the horizon, shrouded in dense jungle and crowned with a single blindingly green light--
-- and then there were cities, dozens of cities, some crowded with aliens and dying soldiers, some flooded beyond repair--
-- and one that burned like hell itself. The flashing visions hesitated for a moment, like an object thrown in the air pausing before it plummets, and Infinite imagined this burning city could have been his, if only the ruby still remained--
-- his passage through dimensions quickened. Infinite could not keep up at this point. Images flashed before his eyes and were just as quickly replaced. He began to notice an object hanging in the center of his vision, faint, but growing ever stronger, ever more solid, as the visions passed.
It was a crystal.
At its heart it gleamed a deep, inky navy, fading to a blighted and sickly blue-grey at the edges. It was not his ruby, to be sure-- but still-- the energy that radiated from this crystal engulfed Infinite, awakened his hunger for power, promised with sure finality its all-consuming strength.
Infinite needed no further persuasion. He reached out with both hands and slammed the crystal into his chest.
A flood of icy heat flushed across Infinite’s body like hot water poured over frozen fingers. In an instant he felt whole again, physical and powerful. He flexed his long-lost limbs. Infinite watched with morbid curiosity as blighted blue-grey crept in crystalline flakes over his fingertips. Black vapor billowed from beneath his mask. The fiery red he once wore for the phantom ruby burned itself to ash and smoke until even his gleaming armor took on a tarnish.
The flashing images began to slow. Like a tired carousel or a roulette wheel come to the end, Infinite passed through a few more dimensions lazily-- a remote island, staffed with guards; the mansion of some rich brat-- before the slipstream set him down in a realm to call his own.
Infinite stood in a vast barren plain. He took a cautious step. Nothing happened. He kicked at the stony earth. Nothing. He moseyed forwards, spinning a little, marveling at the strange rivers of magma and the even stranger clouded sky. He could learn to be content with dominion over this place, he thought. A coat of paint here, a few slaves there--
“Welcome,” a voice greeted flatly behind him.
Infinite whirled on the intruder. His eyes fell on an all-too-familiar face.
“You--!” Infinite roared, his mouth a mess of snarling teeth, and he lunged for Shadow--
Shadow waved his hand. Infinite went flying backwards. He struck the earth, bounced, rolled into a guarded crouch-- and stopped.
This wasn’t his Shadow.
A series of eerie details slowly made themselves known. There was the sickly blue-grey striping across the quills where they ought to be red. There was the mouth, hanging flat and unused, like an afterthought on a face. There was the way the head didn’t quite hang upright but lolled, slightly; the limp and doll-like arms-- then the eyes, those lime-green and deadened eyes that affirmed beyond a doubt that although this creature wore a poor approximation of Shadow’s form, it was by no means the original.
“You may call me Mephiles,” the Being That Was Not Shadow announced. “There’s something I want you to do for me.”
Infinite rose to his feet. He dusted the dirt from his hands. Now that the initial surprise had worn off, this newcomer did not appear to pose much of a threat. “I am Infinite,” he replied. “Were this any other day I would break the soul from your body for proposing I do you a favor. But I am feeling magnanimous, and so I will inform you that I am no hero. My services come at an extraordinarily high price. Pray tell, what could you ever possibly offer me?”
“I can give you a chance at revenge.”
“You’ll have to be more specific.”
Mephiles shuffled forward. He gestured lazily with one hand. An image of Shadow-- the real one-- flickered to life. “You despise Shadow as I do, yes?”
Infinite declined to comment.
“He is happy in this world,” Mephiles said, his voice dripping with disgust. “He has found love and acceptance. Look--” the visions of Shadow swayed, changing from solitary scenes to ones of domestic life surrounded by friends. In every image Shadow looked at ease-- not entirely happy, per se, but the aggressive sharpness Infinite knew too well was gone from his eyes, replaced with a kind of peace. Infinite’s lip curled into a snarl beneath his mask.
“You think that is enough to sway me? Pathetic,” he sneered. “I didn’t escape death just to be courted by the paltry shade of my enemy.” He turned his back on Mephiles and waved him away. “Leave me. I will enact vengeance on my own terms.”
A snake of black smoke coiled around Infinite. In its wake hung Mephiles. He no longer appeared as a half-hearted copy; now his limbs clinked and clanked as growths of crystals, his eyes gazed down as vast pools of burning red. This was no ordinary mimic. Here was a long-dead god forcing the limits of its physical prison. Infinite felt a sickly sense of awe and appreciation wash over him.
“I did not make myself clear,” Mephiles said. His mouth did not move, but the rocks-- the sky, even-- echoed all the words for him. His piercing scarlet eyes fixed upon Infinite. “You are here because I willed it. I created the Phantom Obsidian you wear on your chest. The power you feel is mine. Without me you would be no more than a ghost. Do you understand?”
Infinite understood, but not in the way Mephiles intended. He knew the new crystal must draw its energy from somewhere; even the emeralds had their own otherworldly font. But never did he dream that his source was a being he could converse with-- or, to that end, potentially influence. The sight of Mephiles floating before him filled Infinite with greed. Surely, here was a being without weakness. If he could steal that power for himself, well--
“Fascinating,” he breathed.
The response shattered Mephiles’ air of grandiosity. His arms drooped. “...What?”
“Tell me: what power do you possess?”
The deity struggled to regain composure. “I control all of time and space. I am the first nightmare, the first absence of light, and so long as I survive I will be the last.”
Infinite’s wild smile grew two inches. “And would you promise an...equitable share of this power and dominion should I agree to perform your little task?”
“Everything you draw from the stone is yours.”
Infinite placed a hand over his heart, over the phantom obsidian that pulsed methodically on his chest. His voice purred through his grinning teeth, “Then I give myself to your aid, and find the utmost pleasure in doing so. What do you demand of me?”
If Mephiles was surprised by this sudden declaration, he did not show it. He gestured with one hand. The sky filled with the image of a face Infinite knew intimately: Sonic, the wretched sewer-rat hero of the rebellion. “Kill him,” Mephiles grated. “He is the one who prevents me from ravaging this world.” A whirling portal yawned wide beside him. “This will take you to him.”
Infinite gave a little snorting laugh as he stepped through. “You should have picked something harder.”
* * * * *
Author’s Note: let me know if you’re interested in seeing a second chapter! I have some ideas in place for a full-fledged Sonic 06 AU with Infinite involved, but I’m not sure if I want to go ahead with it just yet. Reader feedback is greatly appreciated!
Roleplay Server Log #367
“Girls Night Out, More Cheese, Not Just a Program”
[Lie] Is down by Hera's bay, just letting her feet dangle into the water. She's waiting to spot her fellow female brine as she's currently needing somebody to bitch to about her husband-
-A few sea dragons glide into the shallows and wend their way around the kelp and the mangrove trees in the shallows. Far on the horizon Basil breeches and makes a tremendous splash in the water. After a while a small white shape becomes visible in the distance and swims lazily into the bay, circling Herabrine's house.
[Lie] - Hera!
-The pale guardian's fiery fuchsia mane is visible for a moment as the shape is shed and Herabrine drops down a narrow shoot into her house.
[Lie] Groans, not really wanting to move- Hera!  Come here!
[Herabrine] is barely visible in her house below but she's bustling about doing something.
[Lie] Gets herself standing and heads for the trap door, kicking it open- Hera!
[Herabrine] Faint sound of someone dropping something and swearing.
[Lie] Huffs and makes her way down the ladder and through the short hallway into Hera's house- Hera!
[Herabrine] Come back here!
[Maggie] Bounces down the hallway towards Lie.
[Lie] Reaches down and scoops the magma cube up-
[Maggie] Excited wiggling-
[Herabrine] Oh hey, thanks Lie!
[Lie] - I've been calling your name for like ten minutes now!
[Herabrine] Sorry, I musta had water in my ears. Heh. What's the matter?
[Maggie] Is super hot and still squiggling-
[Lie] - I'm mad at CP
[Herabrine] Well come on in! You know my policy; If you have nothing nice to say, come sit next to me.
[Lie] Comes in and heads for Maggie's pen to put her away-
[Maggie] Small noises-
[Herabrine] Aw you don't have to pen her, I just forgot to shut my door.
[Lie] - Are you sure?
[Herabrine] Yeah, it's fine. Have a sit.
[Lie] Sits down on Hera's bed-
[Herabrine] Sits on the window sill - So what did the big kitty do wrong now? Try to eat Cn again?
[Maggie] Happy flop-
[Lie] - We ran out of cheese
[Herabrine] That's, that's it? I mean, he doesn't know how to make it, right? That's TLOT's thing?
[Lie] - But I want more!
[Herabrine] I think I have some... - Hops up and starts shuffling in trunks- Here I thought it was something horrible...
[Lie] - It is!  But the baby!
[Herabrne] What about the baby?
[Lie] - I'm craving the cheese because of it!
[Herabrine] I heard. You're the talk of the rumor mill since you were so vocal about hating it before.
[Lie] - Oh shush!
[Herabrine] It's true! You were more then adamant. - Pulls out a small chunk and Maggie whines at the pungent smell.
[Lie] Promptly holds out her hand for it-
[Herabrine] Gives it to her-
[Maggie] Hops down and hides under the bed-
[Lie] Starts eating- Thank you.  CP's been busy building a room for the baby...
[Herabrine] What's the theme so far? I thought he tended towards stone, fire, and huge cavernous spaces for his builds.
[Lie] - Stone so far, but I think I heard him throwing down a bit of carpet too
[Herabrine] You really do like that... I wonder if you'll go back to hating it once the little spud is born? Well I was partially right.
[Lie] - I kinda hope I do go back to hating it.  TLOT and Doc have been making cheese near non stop for me since the cravings started
[Herabrine] That's gotta be hard on your digestion too...
[Lie] - But right now it's so good!
[Herabrine] Apart from that, hows it going?
[Lie] - I'm sore almost every moment, she's decided to try and be a dancer inside of me...
[Herabrine] I know this is going to sound super obvious... but have you tried going swimming? Just floating a bit might take some pressure off.
[Lie] - ...  No?
[Herabrine] Then we should go! I don't mind going back out. I did manage to feed Maggie before she scampered off.
[Lie] - We should probably go over by the bar, the water is hotter over there and I have been getting cold a lot lately
[Herabrine] Meet me up top. I doubt you can hold your breath long enough to get to the surface from the chute- She's putting Maggie back in her pen with a little kiss-
[Lie] - Alright- She stands and pops the last of the cheese into her mouth before heading for the ladder
[Herabrine] Bustles around a little and shoots upwards through the water before bobbing up like a cork, the guardian does an artful flip and swims over to Lie, making a weird hollow noise-
[Lie] Smiles a little- I'd race you, but I don't think I'm in any condition to run- She does step into the shallows and gently grabs a hold of part of Hera
[Herabrine] Moves around a bit so her friend can get a good grip and races through the water towards the bar, fast as a dolphin despite being shaped more like a puffer fish-
[Lie] Shivers a little as they move through the colder water-
[Herbrine] Scoots up near the edge of the blocked off lava pool down the hill from the bar. The water is warmer here and she waits for Lie to get down before switching forms again-
[Lie] Slides off and floats a little- This...  Actually still feels a little cold...
-The sun is going down near the horizon and the sky is tinging a lovely shade of pink-
[Herabrine] Could you just belly up to the lava pool from the outside?
[Lie] - Maybe...- She moves closer to the lava, feeling the warm stone
-As the sky darkens there's a creak up the hill and Sam steps into the doorway, there's a tiny red point of light as he smokes a redstone cig-
[Herabrine] Flops into the lava and paddles a little-
[Lie] - It is a nice night...
[Herabrine] It's too quiet. I'm suspicious...
-Thump.-
[Lie] - There's your noise
[Mix] Fuck! -From within the bar-
[Sam] Is talking quietly to someone up the hill and turns back to see if Mix is okay-
[Moth] Is coming around the side of the library with a stack of books and follows Sam inside for a moment before peeking back out and calling down- Mistress?
[Lie] - Hm?  Yes?
[Mix] -Has dropped her mug and is trying to pick it back up- -grumble grumble-
[Moth] Are you okay down there?
[Herabrine] I think we've been spotted and it's too late to run away.
[Sam] Helps Mix and pours her a fresh drink-
[Lie] - Yeah, just trying to take some weight off
[Mix] Thanks Sam.
[Moth] I could just carry you if you're too tired to walk?
[Lie] - No thank you, I am fine for now.  What were you doing in the library?
[Mix] -Sips her drink and decides to check out the talking by poking her head out the door-
[Moth] Doing more research. Hoff is on watch tonight.
[Sam] Also wanders back out-
[Lie] - Research for what?
[Herabrine] Oh hey Mix! You should come gossip with us!
[Moth] Why babies of course! And what kinds of things we can do to help you as well.
[Lie] - That's very sweet Moth
[Mix] Mmm... okay. -Waddles down to the group, a bit wobbly on her feet-
[Sam] Sees she's having trouble and lends her a hand getting down.
[Moth] Just saunters down and plops on a sand block,- thank you mistress.
[Herabrine] Floats up a little, riding just above the surface- You look drunk Mix.
[Sam] Would eye roll if he could.
[Mix] Thanks Sam. -With Sam's help is less wobbly, but she still plops like a ragdoll once down there, tucking her legs under her- Oh you bet your ass I am
[Lie] - Everything okay Mix?
[Moth] Yes, it's not good for people to drink in excess. especially ladies. It's unhealthy.
[Mix] Mmm... Yeah. Just thinking about stuff.
[Sam] Mimes how many she's had.
[Herabrine] Whistles- That's a lot of stuff.
[Lie] - Hey now, don't try to drink for me too!
[Moth] Tut tuts a little.
[Herabrine] Something on your mind Mix?
[Mix] Aww.. but it's fun. -Rotates the little bit of fabric tied to her wrist.- Makes it easier to think.
[Lie] - What are you thinking of Mix?
[Moth] What is that? If you don't mind me asking?
[Herabrine] And where's the psycho chicken? I haven't seen him around in quite some time.
[Mix] I don't know where Benny is.. I'm kinda worried about him too.. And this? -Holds her arm out and points at the soft orange fabric- Ahhh... Just something I've hung onto for a long time.
[Herabrine] You want me to hunt around for him psychically?
[Moth] It's a pretty color.
[Mix] It is! And uh... If you don't mind? He always comes back eventually.
[Herabrine] Touches her feet on the shore and closes her bright eyes, reaching outward to find the reckless chicken with her mind-
[Moth] Puts the books away and wades into the shallows to splash her face - ahh, it's so nice and warm.
[Lie] - The lava pool does that...  I remember we accidentally cooked a bunch of lobsters when we first made the pool
[Benny] -Climbing a tree somewhere. Amazing.-
[Herabrine] Still concentrating-That was a fun night-
This message has been removed.
[Mix] -Absent mindedly twists fabric some more-
[Herabrine] I think he's trying to fly? He's in a tree?!?!
[Mix] What?!
[Moth] So what's the fabric Mix?
[Herabrine] Sends to Benny- Come to the bar you dumb birb. Mix is drunk and worried about you!
[Lie] - If I recall correctly I can't have most things that come from the water right now...
[Benny] -Falls out of tree- No! Not yet!
[Herabrine] YES Come home you stupid chicken!!!
[Mix] It's just a square. -She unwinds it and holds it up, it's got a small motif in each corner-
[Benny] No. I will soon, though. Don't worry!
[Lie] Sticks her hand in the lava to test it, when she pulls her hand out it hardens as usual-
[Moth] That's a shame. I have found quite a few dietary restrictions in the literature for the health of the baby. It's so complicated. Oh, and it's pretty Mix. I like orange. You don't see it much.
[Sam] Examines the square more closely-
[Herabrine] out loud- Stubborn ass.
[Lie] - It's already starting to get harder to walk, and I'm having to rely on you guys a bit more to tend to the animals
[Mix] I'm really fond of orange, but it makes me sad, usually. And is Benny being stubborn?
[Moth] Oh, you're light as a feather Lie. Just say the word and I or any of my brethern will gladly carry you.
[Herabrine] Yeah, he's doing something but he says he'll come home soon. Way more erudite then I was expecting him to be.
[Sam] Signs- Why sad?
[Lie] - You'd probably have to fight CP off for that honor
[Moth] Shrugs- Just offering.
[Mix] Ugh... as long as he comes home, I guess... -Small frown as she wraps the fabric around her wrist again- Uh... It was a color someone really important to me wore a lot. -Points at the fabric in explanation.- I haven't seen them in a long time. -frowns a bit and holds mug close again-
[Lie] - Do we need to go searching for somebody else?
[Mix] No.
[Herabrine] Ah.... someone lost in the turmoil before you came here?
[Mix] -Softly- Yeah.
[Lie] - I'm sorry Mix
[Moth] I am sorry for your loss then.
[Sam] Nods solemly-
[Herabrine] I dunno, living here I've learned that it's never a good idea to count anyone entirely lost.
[Lie] - This is true...
[Mix] Maybe.... But I'm pretty sure.
[Mix] Didn't mean to bring down the mood, haha.. What's been up with you, Lie? Beyond being pregnant?
[Lie] - Cravings and soreness and mood swings and I'm just a mess
[Herabrine] She's also super cold and inhaling TLOT's stinky gold cheese like it's going out of style. Don't have kids Mix. -chuckles- It seems like a huge pain.
[Sam] signs -Unless you're having an egg haha.
[Mix] Heh, don't plan on it anytime soon,
[Lie] - Well it's not as if CP and I planned this
[Moth] This is true.
[Herabrine] Eh, you're good with kids though. I figured this would happen eventually anyway.
[Sam] Signs- So how is your household faring Mix?
[Lie] - Actually, you could say Sam is partially responsible for my getting pregnant
[Mix] It's alright, Prince is adjusting to seeing really well, and. .. Stev and NK are fucking like bunnies at every opportunity. -Softly- At least I wasn't that bad....
[Sam] Signs frantically - Me??!? What did I do???
[Herabrine] Ha! You should encourage them to get their own build if it's bugging you.
[Lie] - The alchohol you gave as a belated wedding present?  That's what CP and I drank right before, well, yeah
[Sam] Signs- Oh geeze! I'm sorry Lie!
[Mix] -Very blunt look at Hera- They have one. On the shore. They're L O U D.
[Lie] - There's nothing to apologize for Sam, we also forgot to take one of the berries
[Herabrine] Maybe you could surround their house with wool, real subtle like? -grins mischeviously
[Mix] -Strokes chin thoughtfully- Maybe..
[Sam] Still looks contrite
[Herabrine] Can I help? [wool everything over mostly]
[Lie] Winces a little, feeling the baby squirm-
[Herabrine] Feels her distress - Put your arms out and float.
[Mix] Sure, I don't mind
[Moth] So what's this about a chicken anyway?
[Lie] Does as Hera instructs- Come on, calm down little one
[Herabrine] She's fiesty.
[Lie] - And taking after her father, she's griefed CP and TLOT
[Moth] Giggles- With some well-timed kicks.
[Herabrine] Tries to brush the babies mind to see if she can read anything-
-There aren't really any thoughts yet, but it's responding to Lie's movement and voice-
[Moth] Notices Hera's look of concentration. - Getting any signals miss?
[Herabrine] She's just listening and kicking around-
[Lie] - Well she could tone down the kicking a little
[Mix] -Plays with the fabric some more while watching-
[Moth] If she's listening, maybe I can help. - She starts to hum a few bars and then breaks into a soft lulling melody. It's wordless but tuneful and she has a lovely voice.
[Herabrine] Is staring openmouthed. - So much for the old joke about teaching a pig to sing....
[Lie] Feels the baby squirm a little more before she starts to settle a little
[Moth] Keeps singing softly and there's a hush in the few milling mobs beyond the pool of lava light, after a little while she trails off into a few trilling notes and goes quiet- Is that better?
[Lie] - She did settle down a little
[Moth] Good.
[Herabrine] So what's the story behind your hankie Mix?
[Mix] I hurt myself on accident and we didn't really have anything on hand to stop the blood flow. He said I could keep it once I cleaned it up. -It sounds pretty simple. A little too simple.-
[Herabrine] Ah, we all have our mementos.
[Lie] - My memento just lives with me
[Moth] Gives Mix a supportive pat with one huge hand.
[Herabrine] Ha! Too right. He needed a keeper anyway.
[Lie] - I'm surprised he hasn't come looking for me yet actually, he's fretting almost more than anyone else
[Herabrine] If you legit yelled at him for there not being any more cheese he might have gone to get more....
[Lie] - Well Doc went out and I don't know where TLOT is...
[Sam] Signs- You can pretty much just yell for TLOT from anywhere and get his attention...
[Lie] - Doesn't mean he'll respond if he's with Steve
[Herabrine] That's a good point.... And if he is ahem, 'with Steve' it's not smart to interrupt. Especially if you value your eyeballs. hehe.
[Lie] - Not like that's stopped CP before
[Moth] The master is quite tenacious.
[Lie] - Actually, does anyone know where Doc went?  I saw they left with Notch and some others...
[Mix] No clue here.
[Herabrine] If they took Notch it's probably money related since he has the cards. Or they went to visit the office staff. Who else went?
[Lie] - Um, Deer, Flux, Yaunfen, I think HG and Glitchy too?  I was a little miffed at the time so I wasn't paying much attention
[Herabrine] If they took the kid... it can't be anything dangerous.
[Lie] - True
[Moth] whistles as if she knows nothing, though she does have suspicions.
[Lie] - ...  I'm getting cold again...
[Herabrine] There's always the lava? You could just dip your feet?
[Lie] - It'll just harden on me...
[Herabrine] Yeah, but feet are easy to clean.
[Lie] - True...
[Moth] You could sit against me?
[Lie] - Yeah, I guess- She stands walking out of the water and once the air hits her she starts shivering, hard- Maybe getting in the water was a bad idea...
[Herabrine] Hmm. - She waves her hands and raises several water spawn blocks out of the water into a column that's as warm as a shower and endlessly falling beside the lava pool-
[Moth] Interesting trick-
[Mix] -Claps- Niceee!
[Herabrine] Try that. It's pretty hot.
[Lie] Moves into the water- Thank you Hera.  Hey Mix, do you want a sobering flower?
[Mix] Nah, I'm good. I'd get sad again. Best not to let this go to waste.
[Lie] - What are you sad about?
[Mix] The person I lost, mostly.
[Lie] - Who were they?
[Mix]  -Shuffles a bit before pulling a small picture out, it's off two figures, one of which is a more happy looking Mix, and a taller person who's got his arm around her shoulder and a hesitant smile on his face. Around Mix's neck in the picture is the fabric she's got around her wrist currently.- Him. He... meant a lot to me.
[Lie] - Oh Mix...
[Mix] -Looks fondly at the picture- Yeah...
[Lie] - What was his name?
[Mix] Niko. His name was Niko.
[Lie] - That's a nice name
[Mix] Yeah... -Fond sigh-
[Lie] - Are you sure we wouldn't be able to find them?
[Mix] Yeah, certain.
[Lie] - I see...
[Herabrine] Did a NOTCH get him Mix?
[Moth] Little intake of breath.
[Mix] No, thankfully. I think I would've kicked the fuckers ass if it was. -Small frown-
[Herabrine] That's the spirit!
[Moth] Then what.. what happened?
[Mix] -Stares at the picture a bit more before shaking her head.- I don't... I don't want to talk about it right now.  If.... If that's okay.
[Lie] - Absolutely, we understand
[Moth] Okay.
[Herabrine] So how's your tribe doing?
[Mix] -Perks up a bit- The lightfeet are doing wonderfully! They're not lazing about now! -Returns picture to her inventory-
[Herabrine] What happened to get them moving?
[Mix] Give them a ball and you get them off their asses, apparently.
[Moth] What's a ball?
[Lie] - An object you can throw around and play with
[Moth] Oh that makes sense!
[Herabrine] And Liz? I haven't seen her lately either. Getting big yet?
[Mix] Liz is getting long, mostly! Shi's out and about just.. at odd times. Really odd times.
[Herabrine] And the big daddy and the little shy kiddo?
[Moth] Perhaps she's nocturnal?
[Mix] Big... daddy?
[Herabrine] Snaps her fingers - Gambit?
[Lie] - Endrea's kids are getting so big too
[Mix] ... Oh! Gambet, and his kid? Uh.... Not too sure. I've seen Alan when Liz brings them over. Alan's a bit skittish still.
[Sam] signs- Well they are dragons... Endrea is HUGE.
[Herabrine] Sometimes kids are just shy.
[Lie] - Hera...  I want more cheese...
[Herabrine] Sorry, I'm fresh out.
[Sam] Signing - cheese?
[Lie] Whines a little-
[Moth] at Sam, - the Golden Steelton TLOT makes.
[Sam] Oh.
[Mix] The stinky stuff.
[Lie] - CP better get some soon
[Herabrine] Almost makes me feel sorry for him...
[Moth] Offers her some watermelon slices - I heard these were a common pregnancy craving Lie.
[Lie] - I'm not craving those, but I probably should have something other than cheese and chips...
[Sam] signing- I could make something?
[Lie] - I'm not terribly hungry right now...
[Herabrine] Okay Lie, lets just get you home then. Hopefully Cp has your cheese by now...
[Lie] - Okay...
-After Hera leaves Lie at her house the white haired brine heads for the workroom to warm up by the lava.  As she turns the corner a pleasant scent reaches her and she's moving closer to the source.  Turning the corner into the room proper she finds that CP has set things up for her even though he currently isn't home.  There are freshly picked pods and flowers from her vanilla plant and a few of her calming blossoms scattered about as well.  She realizes that at some point he must have gone out to the real world as there are a few candles lit around the lava tub.  Lie's annoyance at him vanishes for the moment as she moves to take full advantage of what he has offered her.  He's left her one of his shirts by the tub as well and she slides into the warm fluid gratefully after stripping herself to wait for CP to return-
-Deep below the lab in their private room TLOT and Steve are curled up on a rug near the lava pool. The two men are snuggled in eachothers arms just enjoying the warmth and companionship. A little food and drink sits forgotten nearby and LH is stealthily dragging away a neglected porkchop-
[CP] Has been looking stomping around looking for TLOT for hours and has only just gotten to the lab- TLOT!
[TLOT] Flops against the bed with an annoyed groan- mentally- go away Cp....
[CP] - No!  Lie's mad
[Steve] Is sort of eavesdropping and his thought is loud- How come?!
[CP] - Because we're out of cheese!
[TLOT] Rubs his temples as the beginning throb of a headache ripples across his brain- Not again...
[CP] Starts coming down the stairs- Yeah well I'd rather have a happy wife!  I didn't realize how much she was sneaking out of the chest without my knowing!
[TLOT] Faintly imitating Cp's tone. - Yeah, well you keep driving off my mate and it would be nice if I could have a happy husband....
[CP] - Yeah well you've never seen Lie mad like this!
[Steve] Incredulous- How bad can it really be? She's usually so nice...
[CP] Gives them a mental burst showing Lie's emotional change-
[Steve] -Blink blink- He knows it's bad to say but can't stop himself- Now you know how she felt trying to keep you happy and calm at the start...
[TLOT] Oh dear...
[CP] - TLOT, just tell me you have some more of the damn cheese stored away somewhere?
[TLOT] I do not. I gave it all to you.
[CP] Long string of curses-
[Steve] Won't she accept anything else? Eating just cheese can't be good. How about the... whatsit...?  huumy bows?
[CP] - She's not even that hungry!  She just wants the cheese!
[TLOT] That's very strange...
[CP] - I mean yes she will eat a few other things, but she mostly wants the cheese, and she's getting more demanding of it
[Steve] Do we have to do this? Can't you ask Doc?
[LH] Scampers up the stairs with the meat.
[CP] - Doc went out
[TLOT] How interesting... Damn it.
[CP] - I'm hoping she'll be a little calmer by the time I do get back to her, but she'll go right back to rage if I don't have any cheese
[Steve] Still quietly pondering the irony, it's not like Cp can't hear his thoughts or anything.
[TLOT] Flops in annoyance.
[CP] - Well?
[TLOT] Take Steve someplace for about ten minutes so I can make some and clear out the smell. Be nice! I want to get right back to where I left off as soon as possible.
[Steve] Huh?
[CP] - Why do I have to take him somewhere!?
[TLOT] Because I don't need you hovering over me any more then I need him crying from the smell!
[CP] - Fine!- He grabs Steve and actually teleports them near his home, so he can check and see where Lie is and what sort of mood she's in
[Steve] Is released and thumps a few inches to the ground. - Oof! Damn stiff boots...
[CP] Sends out his senses and feel Lie in the lava tub- Well at least she won't be moving from there...
[Steve] Oh? Is she in bed with Blake, Hope and the vulpixes?
[CP] - Nope, naked in the lava tub.  Even with her emotions running haywire, she won't run around naked, plus hardened lava makes it a bit harder to move
[Steve] You guys should keep some potions around for that, it makes that stuff slip right off.
[CP] - Nope, I prefer to take it off myself.  Besides, I suspect she'll be in there a lot with how cold she's been lately
[Steve] The kiddo wants the heat, doesn't she? Geeze... you'd think she's part nether dragon.
[CP] - Well I run pretty hot myself...
[Steve] Yeah, I know. -stretches- TLOT is the same way. It's pretty comforting. Especially if you've been working and your muscles hurt.
[CP] Just shrugs-
[Steve] So... uh... hows Stevie handling his glitch? -There's a question here he's afraid to ask anyone-
[CP] - Well so far he hasn't turned his house into a glacier- His psychic abilities are wandering a little
[Steve] Do uh....? - He scuffs a foot in the grass a little - Do you think the glitch might get worse over time...?
[CP] - Maybe a little, it took a bit of time for mine to stabilize
[Steve] Did you do anything special to... fix it at a certain level...?
[CP] - Nope, I let it settle itself out, was too painful to do otherwise
[Steve] Pales a little- Painful? What...? Like trying to fight or hold it was hurtful?
[CP] Thinks for a moment- Trying to stop it I believe, it was so long ago that I don't really recall
[Steve] How would you even stop it...?
[CP] - I don't think you can
[Steve] Is staring off into space unhappily- Oh...
[CP] - TLOT should be done by now, let's go
[Steve] Yeah.. okay... - He's checking- Give him another few minutes, he's fumigating the room.
[CP] Groans in annoyance-
[Steve] Awkward silence. -
[CP] Waits for the time to pass before grabbing Steve and teleporting him back-
[TLOT] Has already cleared the room and put the cheese in a trunk- Here, take this weird plant too. - Holding out the failure plant- Lie might be able to do something with it, but I hate the way it smells. Yaunfen made it accidentally.
[CP] - Fine- Takes everything and then teleports back to his house
[Licht] Sighs as she gets into her cruiser, having just been called to a burglary-
[EAlex] Makes a thoughtful noise as the phone is placed against the passenger seat- Your GPS is all over the map... what on the seed are you doing?
[Licht] - My job.  Currently I'm heading someplace that was broken into, burglarized
[EAlex] Burglarized? Was is that?
[Licht] - It means somebody forcefully entered the domain of somebody else and stole things
[EAlex] There's a sharp intake of breath and she's quiet for a moment. - That explains your harshness then... You hunt griefers...
[Licht] - I...  Suppose so?  I hunt criminals technically
[EAlex] There will always be rules and people who break them... But there will also be those who are hunted because they look like troublemakers, even if they aren't.
[Licht] - Here you cannot be persecuted just by how you look, at least not legally
[EAlex] I remain skeptical of that.
[Licht] Pulls up to a house and plugs a set of headphones into her phone so she can still hear EAlex as she goes into the house to look at the crime scene-
[EAlex] Is using the camera lenses on the phone to look around - So much detail, and people... with weapons..? - She shrinks uncomfortably back into the deeper guts of the phones small hard drive.
[Licht] - Nobody is going to use a weapon here.  We carry them for protection and only use them as a last resort.  In fact your more likely to be hit by the taze gun than the real one
[EAlex] Still... humans use weapons rather freely. Especially the younger ones. A child with a simple iron sword can cause a lot of pain. And I do not know what this taze you speak of is.
[Licht] - It's a device that delivers a non lethal dose of electricity to stun people
[EAlex] Sounds like something a NOTCH would use, to force compliance when someone disagrees with them...
[Licht] - We use it when somebody is being threatening towards us.  Most people are compliant and understand that they did something wrong.  And what would Markus have to do with anything?
[EAlex] So says one with power to one without; I'll only hurt you if I have too... And NOTCHs are evil. They rule with iron fists and crush unbelievers.
[Licht] - There's only one
[EAlex] I wish... many wear the mantle of NOTCH, and many use it to spread fear.
[Licht] - So somebody pretending to be Mr. Perrson?
[EAlex] You don't understand...
[Licht] Looks up as another officer approaches-
[Offcer] - Licht, busy morning?
[Licht] - Yeah, you?
[Officer] - Just a few traffic tickets
[EAlex] Is quiet but uses the camera to examine the person she's talking too, she's nervous being around such a huge human and the phone shakes slightly in Licht's hand.
[Licht] Is just talking business and being briefed on what had been stolen-
[Officer] - So yeah, if you want to go start checking some pawn shops...
[Licht] - Why the rush to get me out?
[Officer] - Face it, your tenacity is why you get stuff done, so the sooner we get you on this, the sooner it might be solved
[Licht] - Fine fine
[EAlex] Like an angry wolf...
[Licht] Starts heading back towards her car- Well, guess it's time for some leg work...
[EAlex] Why did you light the summoner? It seems you have no time for any world besides this one.
[Licht] Huffs a little- The game itself was given to me as a clue to what Markus was doing.  When I got in there, there was a chest with a book with instructions on how to build the summoner, so I built it
[EAlex] Then you have no idea what you called for... and what you recieved is even more terrible.
[Licht] - What do you mean?
[EAlex] The summoner isn't a toy, and the thing that answered it's call is not... normal...
[Licht] - So?  It's not like it effects me
-There's a bit of a pressure change in the air and Licht feels suddenly short of breath, it's a distinct pain around her throat that's sharp and gone as quickly as it arrived. The phone lets out a burst of white noise and EAlex calls out in alarm as the small device starts downloading something in the background.
[Licht] Quickly pulls over and curses a little in Swedish- Wha...  What?
[EAlex] Is visible on her screen stomping against the wallpaper in obvious distress.
[Licht] - What was that?
-There's a small pop and an icon for Minecraft pocket edition is visible long enough for EAlex to let out a small cry of alarm. She stomps on the wallpaper and makes the icons wiggle before slapping at the X to delete it frantically. -
[Licht] - What are you doing?
[EAlex] Falls over and lays flat on the surface of the wallpaper like she's making a snow angel and breathing hard- Saving our pixels!
[Licht] - What did you do?
[EAlex] Don't talk bad about... him... He'll take it out on us both. But he needs a copy of the game to get at me more easily on your phone.
[Licht] - You mean the Herobrine on the computer?
[EAlex] YES. The one who took my spawn!
[Licht] Makes a frustrated noise- You're just some random ai, not even real, why do you try to act like it!
[EAlex] I'm not an AI! I'm a glitch!
[Licht] - Whatever!  Either way!  You're just programs!
[EAlex] No we're not. - She sits up and gets closer to the screen by standing on an icon- Just because I'm not made of meat and water like you, doesn't mean I'm not real.
[Licht] - You are a program!
[EAlex] I am not! I have a soul! -waves her hands in frustration- What can I do to prove it?!?
[Licht] - There's nothing to prove!
[EAlex] So I am sentenced to be a non-person by someone who claims to uphold justice?
[Licht] - You.  Are. A. Program!  One I could easily throw away!
[EAlex] Shakes with fear- You're a player just as evil as a NOTCH, one who would kill for no reason.
[Licht] - I do not kill!
[EAlex] If you delete me, I will die.
[Licht] - You technically don't actually exist!  You were made, AS A PROGRAM!
[EAlex] I WAS NOT MADE. The world gave me a place to gain a body! But I existed as a spirit before!
[Licht] - Yeah right- She pulls up in front of the first pawn shop- Just shut up and let me do my damn job
[EAlex] very quietly- I think you're the one with no soul.
[Licht] Goes about her job for the rest of the day in a somewhat foul mood, deciding to end her day at a bar-
[EAlex] Has rearranged Licht's icons and is now browsing the internet in an equally unhappy mood. Her activity is visible on the screen and the battery is running a bit low. -
[Licht] Grumbles and pulls a charger out of her bag and plugs it and the phone into the wall as she waits for her drink-
[EAlex] Takes a measure of electricity for herself and tries to order her thoughts. The phone is flat and she can't see anything but the ceiling.
[Licht] Receives a decently strong drink and starts downing it-
[EAlex] Resigned and quiet-  Could you at least prop the phone up? I don't think that's too much for non-person to ask.
[Licht] - Why?
[EAlex] So I can see.
[Licht] - There's nothing to see
[EAlex] Then I'll just stare at the ceiling. - She sits down with a huff. - And me without even a Steve or an Alex to bother...
[Licht] - Oh fine!- She tilts the phone up so EAlex can see
[EAlex] Notices her drink. - Can you spare 17 Krona?
[Licht] - Why?
[EAlex] Because... I'm hungry and I have an idea.
[Licht] - No, you don't need it, nor do I think you need food
[EAlex] I could be mean and just take it, but I chose to ask.
[Licht] - And I could let my phone use neither data or wi-fi
[EAlex] -Theres a quiet but very distinct rumble from the earbuds, it's unmistakably the sound of an empty stomach.
[Licht] - Nice try- She asks for another drink, having finished hers
[EAlex] Picks around on her wallpaper and looks up pleadingly, her eyes are a bit dimmer then they were when she entered the phone and the distance from her game is wearing on her a bit.
[Licht] - Humor me for a minute- If you were to get some food, how would you expect them to shove it into the phone?
[EAlex] Weakly and a bit resigned- I know an app game I can take some from, it's not expensive.
[Licht] - Fine, do whatever
[EAlex] Vanishes with a soft voomp. The phone warms as it downloads a small app and a new icon pops up. There's a sound like someone desperately eating something messy-
[Licht] Just starts working on her second drink before glancing at the screen-
-The icon is Fruit Ninja-
[EAlex] Reappears with half a watermelon and a bit more glow, she's still eating but more slowly now. - ........ thank you.
[Licht] - Whatever
[EAlex] I guess I should be grateful for anything. It's not a bad game either, and I could unlock all the swords if you wanted...
[Licht] - I'd never play it
[EAlex] Of course.
[Licht] - You know what, I'm going to give you ten minutes...
[EAlex] Ten minutes to what? Beg for my life some more?
[Licht] - To convince me that you are what you say you are, a being with a soul
[EAlex] Her eyes go wide - H-how? What would you even accept as proof?
[Licht] - That's for you to figure out
[EAlex] Spreads her arms- I am a finite creature with a mind and feelings. How is that different from you? Perhaps I should ask what you could say to prove to me that you aren't a demon with no soul yourself.
[Licht] - Simple, I'm human, I am made from flesh
[EAlex] Bristles as she speed reads a few articles from the web - Flesh is atomic particles and waves and mostly empty space. You're made out of electricity same as me.
[Licht] - I am more than electricity
[EAlex] I can show you the science. Written by your own people... Give me another test.
[Licht] - You haven't convinced me yet, you haven't proven anything to me yet
[EAlex] Then tell me what can a human do that a program can not?
[Licht] - We can create legitimate life, plus there is consequence when we take it
[EAlex] If I killed too many players I would be deleted. Is that not a consequence? And too my chagrin, I have the female parts to make a child. But even if I wanted one, I would need a mate.
[Licht] - Still not convinced little program
[EAlex] Grimaces- can a program feel pain?
[Licht] - They can be programed to believe so
[EAlex] Can a human tell the difference between real pain and someone programmed to simulate it?
[Licht] - Most of the time?  Yes when looking at context
[EAlex] Gives her a grim look- Fine. - She vanishes back into the small icon and comes back out with a plain sword from the game. She grits her teeth and slashes her left arm with the blade before dropping it with the shock of the pain. She can't hold back the wail of agony that escapes her lips as she bleeds copiously on the backround wallpaper and sinks to her knees with tears streaming down her face.
[Licht] - Context, you are a program, it doesn't really effect you.  You are made of nothing but data
[EAlex] Is cradling her arm in agony and making a rather large pool of blood. It hurts too much to muster more then a choked response. It's the merest gulp of air and labored breathing echoing in the earpiece.
[Licht] - Nice try, but I'm not convinced
[EAlex] Must I... die to plead my case...?
[Licht] - It's not as if you'll actually die
[EAlex] Then I cannot convince you, without destroying myself... Then my small existence is doomed...
[Licht] - Then just accept it, you are nothing more than a program
[EAlex] Stronger with sudden fury - I AM NOT A PROGRAM.
[Licht] - You have yet to convince me otherwise
[EAlex] Is near passed out from the blood loss and pain, her head is spinning, she didn't realize how weak she'd be away from her game with an injury to boot. - You are a monster... without pity...
[Licht] - If you're done being insulting, I have some work to do- She digs through her bag and pulls out a folder containing some of the information she has on Markus
[EAlex] Passes out from the pain, and lays there very still on her wallpaper in a pool of bright crimson blood.
-The phone shakes a little and the pocket edition Minecraft reloads itself again. There's a rather creepy laugh in her earbuds-
[Licht] Twitches a little-
[???] Awww... did the weakling hurt herself?
[Licht] - Not sure how a program can actually hurt itself
[???] Just because you don't know how something works, doesn't mean it's impossible. Why was she playing with a blade?
[Licht] - Trying to prove she was real
[???] Laughs- She's too weak to prove anything to you. Perhaps I should take a turn..?
[Licht] - What are you talking about?
[???] Ignores her question- How about I show you something really good....
[Licht] - Only if it helps me solve this case
[???] Hmmm... It might.... And it might entertain me for a moment as well...
-There's a sudden shift in the atmosphere, as if she stepped sideways out of reality, the people around her slow and freeze in place but there's still a rather schizophrenc chorus of whispers all around her. -
[Licht] - Wha...  What's happening?
[???] Just a bit of fun.... - The air goes dark and foggy until her vison is blotted out entirely and she feels large hands wrapping around her windpipe and squeezing just enough to make it hard to breathe.
[Licht] Tenses and squirms a little-
[???] Opens white eyes that fill her field of vision and half-blind her. His breath is hot against her face - Do you believe now?
[Licht] - What are you doing!?
[???] Leaving a few marks.
[Licht] - Marks?
[???] Squeezes a little tighter, the skin already purpling under his grip-
[Licht] - S...  Stop it
[???] Or what?
[Licht] - Just...  Stop...
[???] Are you trying to goad me into killing you so soon?
[Licht] - You kill me and you'll find no way to Markus
[???] Markus isn't my prey my sweet, but good try.
[Licht] - Then what is?- She's starting to get woozy
[???] All in good time. - He notices her slipping and puts her down roughly- Can't have you dying on me just yet.... - The whispering goes up in volume and the color and motion resume around her. Her reflection is visible in the bar mirror and there are already angry purple and red bruises in the shape of hands forming around her throat.
[Licht] Quickly motions that she's like to pay and grabs her phone, her hands shaking a little
[EAlex] Slowly coming around with a pained groan...
[Licht] Pays and hurries outside-
[EAlex] Is bumped around a little and opens her eyes - You are... fleeing? OH!
[Licht] Scowls as she opens her car door and tosses the phone onto the passenger seat-
[EAlex] Drags herself to the fresh icon and sets everything wobbling before deleting it- You... you are injured?
[Licht] - I...  I don't understand...
[EAlex] What is there to understand? You seem so certain we are just programs that feel nothing.
[Licht] - That...  That doesn't explain how he was able to...
[EAlex] Now do you believe me?
[Licht] - I...  Maybe...
[EAlex] Then at least my suffering isn't in vain...
[Licht] Starts up the car and begins heading home-
Okay, first off. I came here to have a good time why did I have to get gut checked?
Second off. I can make things worst and better.
*cracks knuckles and starts writing* —
It is a thing that happens. Sometimes, well, sometimes young creatures will play together, curious and excited, and they do not have to be bothered with hunting and instincts, for they have larger creatures to protect and feed them.
The problem comes with age, and then learning, and then having to survive.
Piglins, once, were quite the race, an undoubtedly intelligent species, but well, times come and go. And with it, the success of a once mighty empire came crumbling down, meaning these people had to travel more, journey farther to look for valuable resources, contuine to move in order to find safe places, to try and find others like them, in order to protect the fragile nature of their species.
And it is with this majorly nomadic life style, some remaining in place only to try and defend the ruined forts and buildings of times long gone in some desperate claim to what they’d lost, that they are met with other creatures of the nether.
Ghasts, while dangerous in their own right, can be easily shot down, screaming things falling to rot in magma pits or to have their tears harvested.
Magma cubes, while pesky, do little to their fellow creatures of the nether and are little concern of the wandering piglins.
Pigmen, decayed things, horrible things, but passive and to be avoided. The piglins ignore the shudders of seeing the past so blatantly stare into their own eyes with dead, dead gazes.
Endermen, odd and strange. A victim of some collapse as well, speaking in twisted tongues sometimes, sometimes attacking when looked directly in the eye. But for the most part, they don’t bother one another.
There are other things, other beasts and things that crawl along steaming stone, things that glide across the magma on spindly limbs, oddities only seen in glimpsed gazes, things that have been reduced to whispers, monsters that have invaded from elsewhere, and then there are hoglins.
Hoglins, simply put, a milky eyed boar of monstrous proportions with an attitude to match. Wicked tusks, grunts and shrieked squeals, harsh hooves, and razor-blade teeth.
These are a piglins worst enemy in the nether, save for the invaders. These beasts, they don’t think or care, and they are to be killed swiftly and effectively.
The problem is with the youth.
Our story starts with a young piglin, he is curious and new to the world, as all young things are at the beginning.
And it only takes a second of distraction for him to wander, he has no name as of yet, for why name something this early in its life when it’s uncertain if it will even survive this week?
Espically one that looks as odd as this one, dark splotches across his face, along his arms, one eye lighter than normal.
Well, our piglin wanders, something catches his eyes and he scrambles away on small and unsteady hooves, for while he can run and walk just fine, he is still getting used to doing so on his hind legs.
He trips, and decides to contuine his exploration on the more stable position on all fours, despite how his sow with grunt at him in annoyance and yank him by the ear to stand once more.
But for now, some movement has caught his attention and he is once more distracted, squealing in pure excitement as he hurried along.
He doesn’t even realize he has gone so far when he comes across something that is vaguely like him, snuffling around some odd mushrooms, pawing at the ground with its hooves.
Its ears are much larger than his and they flap as it moves along, or at least one of them does, the other is weirdly burnt and stays flopped awkwardly, its pale eyes darting about as its snout wrinkles and it snorts.
He mimics its sounds and it turns, a sharp squeal and he giggles. He can’t help himself, moving to sit down as he covers his mouth, this thing that is like him but not coming closer curiously.
Then it’s snuffling his face and he snuffles back, giggling just to be shocked when it makes the sound back at him, this causing him to giggle harder.
And then, soon after, they are playing, chasing one another, the piglin sometimes on his four hooves and other times only on two while the young hoglin piglet merely trots along.
It is fun, and new, and they are happy.
But things always seem to come to an end right as you are smiling and bright and joyous, don’t they?
It starts with a loud, harsh noise. The piglin, who is giggling and stroking the hoglin’s large ears turns and is met with a giant.
The beast grunts, and it sounds like his new friend, he smiles at it, eyes wide and awed.
It has ivory, curved tusks, larger than any he’s seen on a piglin, and it moves along hunched and on all fours as well. It has bristled fur, and when it opens its mouth, it also has very notable teeth.
He babbles and it seems to notice him truly, taking in deep breaths as its eyes squint. The small hoglin piglet seems excited and grunts, this larger thing sniffing and snorting before making a low growl.
The hoglin piglet scrambles to its feet, towards this thing, and our piglin is confused. He is uncertain now as it paws at the ground, the piglet behind it.
Then this beast, this giant, it shrieks and he scrambles to his feet, shaky and startled more than fearful.
That is, until it charges.
He is frozen, tensed, horrified. He doesn’t know what is happening, or why it is happening, but just as this beast bears down on him, it screams.
He doesn’t know what happened until he hears a a whistle and another arrow sinks into its shoulder, hot blood soon spilling as he stumbles back, eyes wild.
Then he is grasped firmly in hooved hands and he squeals, fearful before a loud snort answers in his own tongue.
It is his sow and she has taken him away from this monster, this thing that shrieks and screams.
The thing that tried to kill him, he now realizes.
He buries his face into her shoulder and cries, trying to drown out the screams and war-cry’s, the scent of blood and the sounds of pain.
~
Our piglin grows, and he survives, and he learns.
He gets called by many names, but he has chosen Bastion as his own. It is inspired by crumbled ruins and dark stone.
He thinks it fits pretty well with how he grew, becoming a well built and powerful piglin, but also it is a reference to the odd black splotches that have grown along otherwise pale, pink, coarse fur and wrinkled skin.
Bastion’s tusks, while not as notable or well structured, have still won him a few fights to win enough admiration.
He has survived a lot, and continues to do so. At the moment he is hunting for something to eat, having split from his party as they went to do their own things before regrouping at their camp.
He has long since left those he knew as family, having grown and learned all he could.
He pauses in his quests, ears pricking at an all too horrible sound, a low huffing, the movement of four heavy footfalls.
Bastion tenses, for he now knows the nature of this monster. He bares his teeth, eyes narrowed as he moves to get a higher view point, the piglin needs to track this hoglin before it realizes he’s there.
Then he spots it, twisted face and bristled body, raising its head and snuffling, it seems to be a somewhat young thing, like him, and he knows that just means its inexperienced.
He readies himself before Bastion gives a cry, jumping down and piercing his golden blade into its shoulder, the beast screams.
He screams back, warm blood spraying onto his face, on his snout, on his clothing, and he pulls the blade and the beast falls with a panicked shriek before it turns to rage.
Bastion gets to his hooves quickly as it snaps it’s jaws at him, blood pooling down, but he knows it will take a lot more than that to actually kill the monster.
He slices, it charges, he tries to avoid its tusks, it rears away from his attacks, and they are caught in some stalemate.
He circles with huffs and grunts, shoulder a bloodied reflection to the hoglin’s, where its tusk had carved along, and it eyes him with hate.
It makes old memories tease forth, how he could swear that there was something more behind those gazes, how he had even played with a young one when he himself was new.
Bastion wipes at the blood, bears his teeth, it mimics him and gives a low rumble.
That’s when it charges once more, and he readies himself to pierce into its heart.
That’s when he notes something odd about one of its ears, as its head is lowered and he is waiting, body tensed to take the hit, he sees it has one, burnt, floppy ear.
He blinks, and then it hits him, and he is thrown back, the memory having distracted him.
Bastion yelps, weapon falling from his surprised grasp, and he hits hard against a tree. The twisted, gnarled bark bites into his back, and he huffs heavily as he looks up.
The hoglin is breathing heavily, and it watches him, ready for his next move as it shakes its head and scratches its hoof against the ground.
Our piglin, however, can only stare, stare at that one odd ear. So familiar, then he takes a risk.
They are both injured, and tired, and bloodied.
But in that moment, he remembers a time before.
He mimics a snort, gruff on his tongue, but familiar.
The hoglin takes a harsh step forward, still growling and huffing.
He tries again.
And it pauses, then, as though curious, it eyes him, tilting its head from side to side.
It make a softer sound and he smiles excitedly, huffing back and it is no longer baring its teeth.
He shakily stands, wincing and clutching the bloodied arm that is now no doubtedly broken, and he watches the other careful move closer.
They met and his hand traces that burnt ear as a wet snout noses at the dark patches along his fur and skin. It’s been a while time since they last saw each other.
The piglin crumbles against that form and the hoglin sits, both still bleeding and injured and tired, but… they remember how it was once, back when they were young.
Bastion giggles softly, ignoring how he trembles. It’s been too long.
When i think about how baby piglins and baby hoglins will be friends and play around together i get sad bc when they get big they fight each other... it reminds me of the fox and the hound...
The Inventory Pets Mod adds in pets with cool abilities that never die! Like my Facebook!
ElitePets is a highly customisable inventory pets plugin. Using this plugin you can create your own pets with custom effects. Almost everything is configurable all the way down to what noise the pets make. Mickerson is a special pet that is hard to find. Rarely found in chests above cloud level, or underneath the sea level, mickerson is one of those barely useful pets. Doesn't really do a lot, just makes you look awesome. May I suggest getting a juggernaut pet? Or maybe a black hole pet, or a purplicious cow pet? Those are also pets with cool names, but they are very useful to you and your.
Inventory Pets is a mod created by Purplicious_Cow. It adds many various 'pets' that reside in the player's inventory, based off of mobs, blocks, items and other things.
Most pets can be crafted, but certain 'Legendary' pets (the name being a reference to Pokémon) can only be found in Inventory Pets' dungeons. Inventory Pets has four dungeons: the Sky Dungeon, the Sea Cave, the Underground Dungeon and the Treetop.
Pets eat. Different pets will eat different items in the users' inventory, and at different rates; some pets will eat after a certain amount of uses, or at certain iterations of time. Food can be stored in a Feed Bag. Clicking N (per default) with a pet in hand allows the user to rename it.
