Walton Goggins basically formed his career being typecast as Klan member #12 in pretty much all of the old Black history media that used to rerun in Black households... And I think this is hilariously ironic because when they are repeatedly hired for that kind of media (especially when it's Black people BTS) it's because they are deemed safe to play that kind of thing. And now, that I've pointed this out... (the continuation of the tradition anyone who has ever scrolled upon my blog likely knew would be coming post-show)

- first of all. APPLICATION!!!! i can't not start this off with Her. my first time hearing her!!!! also, the spark/moment chanty part!!! i was too busy having the time of me life to film it but god that bit rocked

- i mentioned earlier today that the initial 5 song run on the setlist of workforce, cross out the eyes, signals, standing on the edge of summer, and jbny may kill me. i was right. thursdudes were out for blood with that one.

- speaking of thursdudes (thursday, the people) they very much knew what they were doing with the house music. in fear and faith (the song). a coheed deep cut i actually didn't know that immediately went into my dunesverse playlist. amen.

- smiley stage geoff will forever be my favorite thing. i do not say this in a borderline creepy uwu way i simply mean it's contagious and genuinely admirable. i love watching that dude do his thing

- that reminds me, definitely the smallest venue i've seen thursday in. which fits the theme of these shows. i really enjoyed that honestly, and i love how close you are to the stage at montage. with the exception of when i hopped in the pit on occasion, i was mostly around the second/third person from the front so it was awesome to just have that back and forth dynamic with geoff being right there all night.

- throwing it out there that i have no idea where this new tucker aesthetic came from (has it been a thing lately?) but i dig it (you can see him in the back of this pic, peep the all pink jumpsuit & pink "TR" tape)

- we got running from the rain!!! full circle moment since i haven't heard that since my first thursset, at adjacent last year. also fast to the end came back home. as she should.

- tim kasher. god bless. admittedly cursive have been sitting in my list of bands to get into so i did not actually Know anything, but i really like the guy and will have to peep his setlist so i know where 2 start. truly enjoyed his set.

- mercy union from nj were great as well. they mentioned growing up in nj they learned from thursday that the moment you walk into a show, nothing outside of it matters. that's how i certainly feel, and felt 2nite.

- my only sad things are 1. the epic crossover did not in fact happen (everyone cleared out really quickly after the show, it's not like folks were waiting for them or anything). someday. and 2. we didn't get at this velocity :-( but i will live

also i just feel the need to share before i go that i am Still Here street parked by the venue (white awning on the right) as i type this. This is where i type these things from. the party ended two hours ago but he's still very much here.

As soon as we noticed, I performed a full rip of all accessible material on Youtube and Tumblr. 22 1080p videos and 55 720p videos were preserved, some of which are duplicates, along with 1 Ao3 fic as a PDF. Unfortunately the Twitter animations are currently inaccessible to me, for obvious reasons - someone who has access will need to cover that. I have tools available for ripping those if someone needs assistance. If everything really does go to hell, I will make the archive available here.

I was initially going to write a snarky response, but upon reflection you sound pretty young and I don't want to get into a pissing contest with someone who is likely a minor. Instead, I'm going to share my philosophy on how I engage with fandom and explain why it doesn't make sense for you to come to my ask box and demand that I answer for people who I don't even know.

My approach to fandom is entirely hedonistic. 1) Fandom is not, and never will be, my personal milieu for activism, and 2) I'm not responsible for the behaviour of people who happen to share my preference in a ship; I can only control what I do.

On 1), I come to fandom for escapism and indulgence, and these two qualities of fandom are completely incompatible with my approach to activism. Activism must be rooted in the real world and often demands doing things you don't want to do. That's like...the polar opposite of what I want to do on Tumblr.com.

Sometimes I incorporate analysis of oppression and justice in my fandom discussions because I find them interesting, but that's still about me and my enjoyment, not about oppression and injustice in general. A lot of my life has been dedicated to structural injustices, whether as topics of study or as systemic forces to organize against (more accurately, I spent most of my adult years striving to combine the academic and the practical facets), so obviously they crop up in my discussions, but my engagement in fandom has never been about activism and I've been quite clear about that. For example, I may talk about decolonization in the context of ATLA, but I harbour no delusions that my salty complaints about Bryke are, in any way, relevant to furthering the decolonial project.

On 2), notice that in my response to your last ask, I never claimed the entire Zutara fandom only consists of people who never did anything wrong. I only claimed that I, personally, strive to behave like a reasonably decent person in my fandom interactions. Fandoms consist of literally thousands of people, if not tens of thousands, so of course people in my (and yours, and everyone's) fandom are capable of shitty behaviour -- but like I said before, I'm not the fandom police. It's not a role I'm interested in taking on, nor one I'm arrogant enough to think I should. I don't try to be a role model at the club or at the grocery store; in a similar vein, I'm not facilitating or curating or shepherding the Zutara fandom. I just hang out here, same as everyone else, and I'm not going to insult my followers & my peers' intelligence by saying "PSA: did you know it's not okay to say shitty and racist things to people?"

My responsibilities in fandom extend to following basic fandom etiquette and interacting with posts and people that don't contradict my values. I sometimes repost salty things about specific ships, or occasionally I'll interact with Zutara antis who come to me, because salt can be fun in moderate doses plus I have post-COVID POTS so I need a lot of salt anyway. Every time I have interacted with a hostile Ka/taang shipper, it has been because they came to my post, my blog, or my tags to stir up shit. Even so, I'd never go to a Ka/taang blogger and expect them to do something. I have, btw, received messages asking me to highlight/expose certain Ka/taang shippers for their politics or things they've said, and I don't publish those either, so there's not a whole lot of fingerpointing going on here in general.

I'm going to stop responding to your asks, but I hope you can reflect on what exactly you are trying to get out of fandom, and what kind of behaviour you think is productive and generative for you. I'm not saying everyone should follow my personal fandom engagement philosophy, but I am saying you can't impose your philosophy onto me.

People aren’t mad about a single AI picture, by the way. You’ve been a champion of generative AI in system spaces for a long time now. Time to accept some responsibility and leave it in the past. Saying “I’m just one person, so what’s the harm?” is a cop out.

Would you say that to someone who litters or commits some other unethical act which harms the environment? We all have individual responsibilities to do what we can to protect our planet.

The thing is, a lot of this AI hysteria is also fingerpointing by the actual elites who are responsible for the damage to the environment. It's propaganda meant to keep focus on the individuals when most pollution originates from megacorporations. No, people shouldn't litter. But a lot of the world has been wrapped up in "carbon footprint" ideology that places blame for the environment on individuals and distracts from how most of the pollution in the world is coming from the richest people at the top.

A lot of AI hysteria right now is depending on using big numbers to trick our small monkey brains without giving any perspective.

The statistic (which may be misleading in itself since I hear AI facilities reuse water) claiming that an AI prompt uses 16 oz of water, sounds scary when you imagine millions of people using the those prompts.

But it's decidedly less scary when you have the context that the average golf course uses 2 billion gallons of water a day. It would take every single person in the entire world generating an image to use even half the water of a single golf course.

There are over 38,000 gold courses in the world.

In order to use as much water in a day as the world's golf courses alone, EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE PLANET would need to make over 75,000 prompts a day!

And remember, there are only 86,400 seconds in a day! If you somehow managed to generate an image per second, you'd get 3 hours to sleep.

But we aren't raging at golf courses, are we? Why? Even when there are droughts and normal people are limited on how much water they can use, golf courses are often given exemptions by local governments and allowed to continue to drain water supplies to keep their fields green.

To me, keeping environmentalists distracted by random AI users generating free prompts is just another example of the media using sleight of hand to keep people distracted from the worst offenders to the environment, and focused on each other instead.

"Not Even At Gunpoint!"

Future Echoes of the Past #3

I didn't plan this meta. Well, maybe...just a tiny, weeny bit...I had been keeping a parallel in mind for a while...but not in this context. But it was kind of one of these moments:

Lets start at the beginning.

@beebopboom has been exploring the three magic tricks that appear in the S2 opening sequence recently, and speculating how the third one might appear in S3, and I've been exploring the paintball fight scene at Tadfield Manor in S1E2 and how that relates to the Great War in Heaven that formed Hell, and the events around the Fall. The two topics intersect, as you have echoes of the Bullet Catch magic trick from the 1941 minisode in S2E4 appearing not once but at least twice at Tadfield Manor.

But...then I realised, there's more than one pointed gun. Way more.

I'd always liked this throwback line from Crowley in S2E1, when Nina asks him if he is a bookseller as well:

Who would want to be a bookseller when this could happen to you?

Shadwell, turning up at the book shop in S1E4, disturbs Aziraphale contacting Heaven through the portal (a modified Solomon's magic circle) under the oculus, and breaks in to confront him. The historical implications of Aziraphale's lines here are that before homosexuality was decriminalized in the UK meeting places for such people were often disguised as respectable looking book shops. Which makes Nina's question in S2E1 and Crowley's denial to her all the more...loaded? Ah, well, you can't fool Nina, now, can you?

Anyway, mah point is...Shadwell literally has Aziraphale at gunpoint, er, fingerpoint here. Loaded fingerpoint.

But then, this isn't the first time Aziraphale has had a gun pointed at him. He had one pointed at him in the church in 1941 by the Nazi agent double-crossing Greta. His biggest fear, as always, isn't actually "dying," or standing in front of the guns, its the paperwork that he knows will go with getting a new body from the Ineffable Bureaucracy.

Crowley turns up to rescue him, because he "didn't want to see [him] embarrassed." With a bit of equivocation between the two of them, all the time while at gunpoint from Greta, they team up to save each other.

This was even before we got to the Bullet Catch - his "show stopper!"

Back to Tadfield Manor.

As they enter, Crowley is lined up in the crosshairs.

Er, wait a minute...

Only Crowley is shown this way here, not Aziraphale. He's a target. I'm starting to ask what point in time this is referring to - the present or the past? Both. Yeah, why not both! The work I did in this previous meta in this series showed that Crowley was considered a target for early removal by the other demons-to-be prior to the Fall.

Then they are both shot.

I pointed out Aziraphale gets shot by blue paint, representing Heaven, but its a colour we don't see used again by any one in the fighting to come. But what I didn't talk about was WHERE he got hit - in the back. That's synonymous with treachery. Heaven has stabbed Aziraphale in the back, so to speak. wow. Nice - not.

And Crowley? He gets hit in the heart - just like the Norman/Lucifer parallel on the Yellow Team does a short while later during his "fall" scene - with the red paint, betrayed by the Red Team who represent the management in Heaven.

Seems the Ineffable Bureaucracy wanted both them out of the way during the Great War...it get more and more interesting each time I look closer at it...

So was Aziraphale ever in the crosshairs? Yep.

And, as @vavoom-sorted-art points out, this is a time Aziraphale chooses to pick a weapon, and to fight. He didn't want the simple, safe deception trick with the ropes - he wanted a weapon. He really is much more the warrior than Crowley. Aziraphale, I think your nature as a principality is showing!

Firing that gun made Crowley sick to his stomach, and so did this metaphorical loaded gun - the Book of Life.

As soon as he found out from Beelzebub it was a real possibility of being played he went back to protect Aziraphale. Crowley hates fighting - watch how often he will try shut it down as quickly as possible or try to escape it when he can. To him everyone has free will, and the person picking the fight with the other is imposing their will on them. That's 'not on' in his books.

Aziraphale, on the other hand, is still reacting with his ingrained Heavenly instincts - that he should follow his morals because they are 'right,' and more sophisticated weapons add weight to the moral argument. He thinks. Maybe. (Yeah, keep working on that doubt, angel.)

Az: Impressive hardware. I've looked at this gun, its not a proper one at all. It just shoots paintballs. Cr: Don't your lot disapprove of guns? Az: Unless they're in the right hands. Then they give weight to a moral argument. I think. Cr: [laughing] A moral argument? Really? *tosses gun away* C'mon. [Heads into the Manor.] [later, after Crowley changes the paintball guns to real guns...] Az: But there are people out there shooting at each other! Cr: Well -  Lends weight to their moral argument. Everyone has free will, including the right to murder. Just think of it as a microcosm of the universe.

I'll think I'll end this here and leave you with a small montage of the aftermath of all this gun play - everything going up in flames and smoke.

I have some and I don't think they're that interesting, caham, anyways:

For a basic slash obvious starting: Trish is a lesbian, Lady is bisexual. Good? Good. Marvelous even.

Trish, at least in my conception, teases Lady as fuck. And Lady always fall on her teasing because 1) she's a bisexual disaster, 2) Trish is a gorgeous woman & 3) she may or not may have a petit, little wittle crush on her.

Lady is a whole badass woman but in the romantic field she's a dork. Personally to me she's very emotionally constipated (and so am I-), and this leads her to embarrassing, funny blushing moments. Hell, she even stumbles on her words and is loud as hell (saw in Rolling Thunder, but that's another story I think), and Trish can't help but to find this adorable.

As we can see in dmc4 and 5, they became sorta besties but with the sexual tension factor. C'mon, the way they look at each other, Trish's "Don't be late for the party" line, the childish fingerpointing... Something lgbt is happening there.

Anyways, I think intimacy is the key to their relationship. Not always the sexual type, but the more calm and romantic one too. I can see them laughing and chatting for hours, just the two of them, on a pacific, relaxing scenario. Just them, enjoying each other's company.

Oh yes, Dante's #1 Ladytrish shipper. In fact, he's the Ladytrish's president club. Me #2 after him.

Trish, on the other hand, is more confident. She's a simple woman, always straightfoward. "I like you. I want to kiss you." That's it, that's her point. Of course she can be more creative than that, that's just her mind speaking out loud for herself, poor girl.

I have a headcanon that way back in high school, Lady knew lots of hairstyles and used to do her friends' hairstyles. Trish, knowing this, instantly asks her to do her hair too and at this point Lady.exe. stopped working. But she did it anyway (bonding time with her crush, man, of course she did it).

Kinda irrelevant, but Trish smells like vanilla, leather and lemon while Lady smells like wild cherries, gunpowder and leather too.

And that's all I have now, for a while ;)

We voted, and we had record voter registration, and we still lost.
