The original Righteous Brothers version was a critical and commercial success on its release, becoming a number-one hit single in both the United States and the United Kingdom in February 1965. It was the fifth best selling song of 1965 in the US. It also entered the Top 10 in the UK chart an unprecedented three times. The song was recorded at Studio A of Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles. When Hatfield and Medley went to record the vocals a few weeks after the song was written, all the instrumental tracks had already been recorded and overdubbed. They recorded the vocal many times – Medley sang the opening verse over and over again until Spector was satisfied, and the process was then repeated with the next verse. Alrighty, today I picked up a #Sublime #BlueberryKush cart at #GivingTreeDispensaryAZ. A bit disappointed in the #THC content, at 77.25% 🙄...but let's not pretend that it's not gonna do the trick. #Blueberry was a very popular strain when people started buying #chronic instead of brick reggie back in the day, and these carts like to make the fruity flavors stand out....but how does the #FirstHit feel? #OohThatsNice. Project Sources

As stated last week, I plan on focusing on the Cenotaph on Whitehall, the World War I memorial to “the glorious dead.” As Europe commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the war, this topic seems all the more pertinent. More specifically, I want to focus on its placement in the center of government - namely its proximity to the cabinet buildings and 10 Downing Lane. I want to explore the government’s role in relating itself to the memorial and the ideas it evokes. Additionally, I also want to look at the memorial’s role as well as reactions to it during the period of its construction and in contemporary times. I think connecting architecture, history, public opinion, and government reveals a lot. Doing so, allows for a detailed examination of the ideals that British society holds dear, but more importantly, shows the role of government in connecting itself with those ideals and acting as a facilitator of, and conduit for those ideals. 

The following sources that I am posting in terms of what I will be using for my project are currently unvetted and not analyzed yet. I will be going through the sources I’ve placed here and will get rid of some, and add others. For Academic sources besides the British Library, I plan in using Academic Premier Source, namely Historical Abstracts (the world history subsection), Pro-Quest (for political science articles and sources), JSTOR, Oxford Art Archive, and others. In terms of searches, I am focusing on terms such as “cenotaph,” “[British] government and memory,” “Britain and World War I,” and “World War I remembrance.” Though I have namely put Guardian articles here for non-academic sources, I plan on consulating other British periodicals or publications (I will check the British library as well as the individual archives of each respective source).  

As a side-note, I plan on reaching out to Professor Kuntz in the Art History department, who was my professor for my Architecture class and who focuses on various components of contemporary (and historical) architecture, including sculpture and memorials. Her input and direction will be extremely valuable in directing my research, and shaping and focusing the direction of my project
