Alright! This #fivefilmsfriday we talk about something that I, a Las Vegan know a thing or two about...gambling. Though I don’t partake myself, because I like my money where it is. The characters in these movies make the cities economy flourish. First up we have The Cooler starting William H. Macy. @lotzofmovies recommended this one and it’s a great pick. Next up is a familiar name here it’s @lololovesfilms and their pick Waking Ned Devine. @obsessedwithmovies, congrats on 10k followers to him by the way, we’ll have what he’s having. His pick this week is a Netflix Original called Win It All: our last panel pick is from the incomparable @bobks_moviemania and it’s the Philip Seymour Hoffman helmed Owning Mahowny. This week on #fivefilmsfriday we’re late! Sorry for that! Regardless the force is strong with us and we’re looking at the films that star some of our favorites from a galaxy far far away. Our first two selections star the handsome rogue known as Poe Dameron aka Oscar Isaac. The leading man of Guatemalan decent was in the Viggo Mortensen led The Two Faces of January alongside Kirsten Dunst. This one was selected by @lotzofmovies. Isaac’s second film on the list is 10 Year which features a star-studded cast in a little seen comedy about what else, a ten year high school reunion. @g_reelz brought it with this selection. In our third spot we have an early film by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. It’s Brick. Which is a fantastic neo-noir for modern audiences. Next up we have @obsessedwithmovies and his selection Citizen Ruth starring Star Wars newcomer Laura Dern. Happy Black Friday! It’s time for #fivefilmsfriday this week with the release of Call Me By Your Name we decided this week we would talk about LGBTQ cinema and some of our favorite lesser known pieces in that genre! It’s time for #fivefilmsfriday this week it’s all about characters with some sort of “disability”. Whether it’s a physical or mental obstacle that’s what we’re covering in honor of Wonder. First up it’s a selection from @killerjoecooper the incredible Michaël Roskam film Bullhead. The Horse Whisperer is a film about an injured horse and the girl who was traumatized by that accident. This one is brought to us by @lotzofmovies. Next up is Julian Schnabel’s Le Scaphandre et le Papillon or in english The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. A memoir about journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby. @lololovesfilms brings us this excellent selection. This film stutters in to the fourth spot and it’s Rocket Science. It’s time! Once again it’s the end of the week and that means #fivefilmsfriday with the John Carroll Lynch directed film Lucky opening this week we thought it best to talk about film directed by actors. With that we start with the Tim Roth directed piece a family drama called The War Zone. This unflinching film was suggested by @killerjoecooper. Next up we have Any Day Now directed by actor Travis Fine. With this drama focused on the family dynamic in an LGBTQ family in the seventies. This one was suggested by @thecinemum well done! My dude, my guy FSR’s own @filmsnob_heaven picks Ryan Goslings directorial debut Lost River. We talked about it earlier in the week but Zoe Lister-Jones’ Band Aid is good enough to earn another mention. I love this film! It’s another great selection by @lololovesfilms. Lastly my selection for the week is the George Clooney manned Good Night and Good Luck. This biopic of sorts on Edward R. Murrow explores what journalism is and should always strive to be. Alright alright alright! Another week has passed and it's time for #fivefilmsfriday with Brad's Status starring Ben Stiller opening in limited this week we though that fathers and sons would be a great theme this week. Every film this week centers on that. So to start this week we have the amazing sequel The Barbarian Invasions excellent choice by a guy who always brings his A game @bobks_moviemania! Next up is a film suggested by @lololovesfilms it is the Felicity Huffman vehicle Transamerica. Blue Caprice is an interesting look at a non paternal father son relationship with a backdrop of domestic terrorism. Once again @thecinemum brings it. This time though with an American film! With It coming out this week we thought it best to discuss some under the radar book adaptations. This week for #fivefilmsfriday! First up we have @filmsnob_heaven with his pick this week Bella Tarr's Hungarian masterpiece Satantango. Next we have the Jeff Bridges led 1993 film Fearless brought to us by everyone's favorite Robert @bobks_moviemania, a great choice indeed. This time around we have Never Let Me Go based on a book once heralded as one of this centuries greatest books. An excellent choice from @obsessedwithmovies. From a contemporary classic to an all time one we have the retelling of The Bards Macbeth directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender as the new tyrant of Scotland. Another week of releases another #fivefilmsfriday this week in honor of Goon 2 we're talkin' sports movies. First up is the football (the real one) film Green Street Hooligans. This one is brought to us by our very own hooligan @obsessedwithmovies great pick! Buckle up for the title @bobks_moviemania has brought us. The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki is a film about a Finnish Boxer if you didn't know. Now @thecinemum has assured me Lawn Bowls is a sport of some sort. She's Australian we're assault and battery on a football pitch is called a sport, so I'm uncertain. Either way Cracker Jack seems a great film regardless. The last panel pick is a good one. It's the roller derby comedy Whip It! directed by Drew Barrymore. My pick this week is a little seen hockey comedy called Mystery, Alaska.
