Flåm, Norway: Flåm is a village in the Flåmsdalen valley which is located at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjorden, a branch of Sognefjorden. The village is located in Aurland Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. In 2014 its inhabitants numbered 350. Wikipedia
Flåm might be the most majestic step into nature I have ever experienced yet in my life. I marveled over the green mountains and waterfalls overlooking the fjord, which made me feel like a tiny little ant. In the area is a microbrewery with a Viking-styled building represented here.
The tree, representing Yggdrasil, had these carvings around it, including a Viking face (that you can see here), Ratatoskr the squirrel at the branches, and Níðhöggr the dragon (who gnaws the tree's roots) at the base.
I screwed up by not realizing how far Njardarheimr (the Viking village) was... you have to take a tram there (and it's a long journey) and sadly, I didn't have the time to make that trek.
I notice I am quite bad at updating things closer to the time I experience things...
it’s been 6-ish years (2016) since I went to Norway and I still have not posted things about my personal visit.
In Oslo I explored many museums and sights of interest. Met a guy during a walking tour and asked him to take my photo for me as I was alone and had no tripod or selfie stick. Afterwards, I found a photo of his shoe in my gallery. That was really random. I returned the favor. I learned something new that day that I didn’t know before... how to take multiple photos by holding down the shutter button.
I took a train to Flåm but the train broke down. We were sent on buses to our next stop. I recall overhearing several people that needed to get back to Oslo to catch a flight... They took the train as a day trip. I hope they made it because we waited for buses for quite some time. I met a lovely girl from Korea but we parted ways as she took the Norway in a Nutshell tour and I was doing my own itinerary combined with Norway in Nutshell elements.
In Bergen, I explored on foot except for the day I took a bus tour to the Edvard Grieg museum to satisfy my musical intrigue. I watched a mini concert and heard some songs familiar to me from piano lessons and exams. I met a lovely older lady from Australia. Several years later I did eventually make my way down under. Australia is a lovely country.
I was kinda sad it was rainy and super cloudy the day I took Fløibanen up Mt. Fløyen so I didn’t see much of the surrounding fjords. It was quite nice though, since it was empty. I went very early in the morning, the gift shop was closed. Ahaha...
I hung out by myself mostly... I did meet a group of people near my age. They said they were studying or from Pennsylvania, USA. We were bunked in the same dorm in the hostel. Sadly we never got to have dinner together and they moved on to Sweden. Thank you for sharing and offering your food!
In the future, I’d like to go back.
P.S. Did you know I almost moved to Norway in 2019?
DAY 5: FLÅM Today we arrived at Flåm. This is our last stop before returning to Germany. We decided to do a train ride with the famous flåmsbana. It was a beautiful drive up to the mountains with a lot of waterfalls and epic moments! #flam #flamsbana #mscgrandiosa #flåm #norway #norwegen #flåmsbana #flamtrainstation #visitnorway #kreuzfahrtmitkleinkind #msccruises #norge #msccrociere #railway #cloudy #liveatmsc #flåmsbanamuseet https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce4A0gILgMh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

An ex-chick told me to go get on this 'Flåm' train in Norway, Scandinavia and how it was so magical, how it was a 'once in a life time experience' blah blah blah. I had to get over there to see if this was really worth it
Rjoandefossen in late May 2015
You can refer to Kjosfossen for some more information about the Flåm Railway and waterfalls in Flåm, which is not terribly far from Bergen. Rjoandefossen is in my mind proof that you don’t have to try very hard to find waterfalls in Norway. They almost find you.
The Flåm Railway is a fascinating trip. You’re traveling along a steep railway from Flåm to Myrdal. At…
#visitnorway #norway #fjord #fjordcruise #msc #mscgrandiosa #northernsearoute #northernsea #flåm #flåmbana #alesund #nærøfjord #stegastein #mobilephotography #landscapephotography #naturegeography #originalphotographer #lensbrnetwork #lensculture #samsungmobile #samsunga51 #italiapm (presso Norway Fjords) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgSE1ECMtVp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
