Flashforge: Powering the Global 3D Print Farm Revolution

As predicted, recent years have seen a surge in businesses offering 3D printing services. Usually, such businesses rely on well-functioning 3D printing farms. Many 3D printing farms have been established as either an additional branch to existing manufacturing operations like injection molding and CNC, or they have started with a sole focus on 3D printing.

I left it up to a community vote for the colors. Aaaaand of course, since it's MY community, they obviously chose Snatcher-esque colors. 😆

I had to get some replacement filament for the main body, since it originally turned out, uhh..... less than ideal.

Recently my son has gotten more interested in music. A month or two ago, I helped him research and buy a small headphone amplifier for his desktop PC setup.

However, in addition to the amp, he wanted a vacuum tube preamp since he's seen the one I have for my PC (you can see part of it in the last pic) and wanted a similar configuration. :)

So I set about gathering some parts I had on hand to put one together for him. He selected the wood for the case from my stash, and the white aesthetic to match the rest of his PC setup. I used 2 6C4 tubes because I had them and they seemed like a fun choice for this.

Most of the work came in constructing the enclosure. I used my chop saw to cut pieces to length, then resawed them on my bandsaw so they were thinner. I then glued up the wooden box with some support blocks to increase the strength and give me somewhere to mount the metal plate that will hold the parts.

I'd recently scored a bunch of aluminum and steel sheet, so I used one of the aluminum plates to mount all the parts. The thicker plate was really nice to work and drill and allowed me to chamfor the holes so the wires won't scrape. Then I painted it up and mounted in the components.

This project involved a lot of 3D printing as well, all the transformer covers and the capacitor brackets were printed on my FlashForge 3. Boiled Linseed Oil was used on the wood for a natural finish, and the power light enclosure is an old glass bottle that I 3D printed a diffusion cap for.

Overall I'm really happy with this project, and so is my son who's been using it constantly over the Thanksgiving break. :)

tested twitchstreaming model painting today!

i used it as both an opportunity to test painting a model fresh off my new Flashforge Creator Pro printer and a chance to teach my long distance girlfriend the basics of model painting!

the model is from The Makers Cult, and overall im very happy with both the end result of the model and how the stream went :)

So I set up the new 3d printer last night and immediately printed a Benchy! (Well, after it printed a test cube as part of set up).

I’ve been messing with the Robo e4 at work and while that one is a nice model, it’s definitely more of an educational tool than anything else. Loving my FlashForge at home though!

Husband also bought me a course on 3d modeling in Blender so I can’t wait to get to the point where I can make my own models

So these past couple of months have really been the prime time for me to finally get ahold of a lot of the things that I have always wanted. I managed to get a robotic vaccum, a nice set of speakers, and, of todays topic, a 3D printer. The specific model I got isn’t particuarly exciting.
