This month marks 10 years since I completed Brad's 1967 Beetle performance drivetrain upgrades. Car is still going strong and looking great, built to be a mostly stock appearing "sleeper".

Featuring a 2387cc built here at RISmachine with Autolinea pent roof aluminum case, DPR Machine 86mm Chevy journal crankshaft and lightened flywheel, CB Performance 5.5" h-beam rods, AA performance 94mm P&C, CB straight cut gears, Steve Long Racing Cams EXR grind (.584" at the valve) with 1.4:1 rockers, CB Performance 44x37 CNC Super Pro heads, dual Weber 48 IDFs, Magnaspark ignition, and an A1 sidewinder exhaust. Transaxle built by Jim's Custom VW to handle the power, Gene Berg mid mount, HD VW rubber mounts, and a 2" narrowed beam up front.

The last 10 years have been relatively uneventful. Lots of miles, really just oil changes and valve adjustments needed. A few upgrades here and there when Brad wanted to improve things. The worst problem was an exhaust flange gasket that let go a few years back that required replacement.

The car spent the winter here for maintenance and a once over. A new crank pulley and sand seal were needed, that's about it. Built well and built to last.

And yes, we know the rear bumper isn't correct for 1967. The cosmetic restoration was done by a prior owner. One day we'll fix it, for now it's fine.

Photo dump 4 (last one) of the recently completed 1776cc....

Not a complete step by step as you may be used to from me, but this set shows:

Bolt together rocker shafts set up on heads with clearanced 1.1:1 rocker arms with 8mm elephant foot adjusters.

Rocker geometry set up, adjuster close up is at half lift.

Rockers disassembled, Redline assembly lube applied, shafts reassembled.

Push rods lubed, shafts installed, and valve lash adjusted.

New OEM Valve covers installed.

New NGK spark plugs gapped and installed.

Dan picked this long block up yesterday to complete the turn key assembly. It will be topped off with the new @cb_performance Sniper fuel injection, Magnaspark ignition, and Gilmore @gilmore_enterprises air conditioning.

Alright we said the pregnancies start here so let's see if we hold true to that 🤨

WHY DID I START THIS CHAPTER WITH DOREMI AND MOMOKO TRYING TO SPY ON ONPU AND TOORU ALONE IN THEIR BEDROOM???? "They don't even know what perverts means." IN THIS STORY THEY ARE EIGHTEEN I ASSURE YOU THEY KNOW WHAT IT MEANS.

Hang on a minute. That scene happened. Doremi and Momoko woke up Onpu and Tooru. Then the next scene starts with the title "Three Weeks Later." So. You're telling me. Doremi and Momoko just missed out on witnessing the conception of ToOn's baby? Wtf was wrong with me????

There is a LOT more going on in this scene but I'll focus on just this excerpt. You ask the engaged couple when the last time they slept together was???? Insane behaviour. The "weird cravings" in question are pickles. And I'm sure we can agree that nausea doesn't really mean anything by itself.

But on top of that the next lines have Aiko joking to call 911. Girl this is Japan that is NOT their emergency number smh this fic is so unrealistic 😔

Ok I'll touch on these strange Tooru scenes shortly but I love how we include the last names of the FLATY5 even though they are not brought up in canon once. Last night I was reading the Light Novel chapter with the FLAT4 and there's literally a line where Doremi's like "wait I don't even know if the names they told us are their first names or their surnames. Who knows what their full names are?" But no, in the WAOF universe we have claimed Kounna Tooru.

"Wherever Tooru-kun's gone, that's where Leon-kun's at." Aiko hissed.

Idk why this is making me laugh lmao.

Right, onto the weird Tooru scenes. I was going through my old ffn messages with @pippelulu looking for something else entirely and did spot a few messages where we were like "hey the flat4 should totally realise Onpu's pregnant before anyone else" which is fine if there was like. reasoning behind it? We made Aiko a pixie in the last chapter, let the wizards have the power to read auras or something. But why does EVERYONE know except Onpu? Well actually, that's not true. Why do the Ojamajos, Tooru and Akatsuki know? This is so bizarre lol.

Why is Aiko shooting lasers out of her eyes now 😭.

I haven't even finished reading this scene of drunk Leon and Aiko and I'm already cringing with embarrassment. Yikes. But this is the time for me to question the story arc of those two in this chapter. Why was Aiko trying to kill Leon earlier and now she's willingly doing shots with him??

I'm not including the excerpt I'm too embarrassed but I fr stole a quote from THE BIG BANG THEORY in this chapter. Why did we write these characters getting drunk in the first place, we had never touched a drop of alcohol in our lives at that point.

My ONE attempt at questioning the continuity of this story was in the author's notes after PippElulu says LeAi are engaged. Bestie those two have barely spoken two nice words to each other.

new tag game: list ten of your childhood ships

Tagged by the wonderful @blairwaldcrf​ - thank you, dear! This sounds like fun!

Though also this had me questioning how to define “childhood”. So, I went with “ships I sailed before I discovered ‘fandom’ and ‘shipping as an activity’“. I am really trying to pre-date my actively-involved-in-fandom days here. It’s also amazing how I can suddenly not remember a single thing I watched as an actual child.

1. Charmed - Cole/Phoebe

These two shaped me so much. Had the most imprint on me, ship-wise, before I knew what shipping was. I still hold such a candle for them.

2. Sailor Moon - Seiya/Usagi

This ship changed my brain-chemistry. Prior to this ship, there was always... one endgame. And you didn’t question the endgame. And then Sailor Moon went ahead and put her main love interest on ice and introduced Seiya and it wasn’t just Seiya who liked Usagi, Usagi spent her time blushing and showing signs of attraction herself. This was mindblowing for tiny Phoe because 1. it is a hundred times better than the actual endgame ship, 2. it is AN OPTION to change ships? I think that this ship very much introduced the concept of shipping, as in, you don’t have to stick to the one main couple, to me.

3. Jungle Cubs - Shere Khan/Bagheera

I don’t know what to tell you, I love those two. Mostly due to Jungle Cubs, honestly.

4. Anastasia - Dimitri/Anya

This movie. I think part of why I loved this movie so much was because this ship was so great. A yearly rewatch for me, and I always loved those two and the way they fell in love. The agency Anya had, compared to most Disney princesses at the time? The roguish nature of Dimitri, compared to most flat Disney princes at the time?

5. Swan Princess - Derek/Odette

Similar to Anya and Dimitri, only even more probably? They near-parodied Disney movies and heteronormative movie settings with how they montaged the childhood and set up the heteronormative Boy Meets Girl and then they should be in love already and she asks why he loves her and all he can come up with is uh because she’s pretty now? And then he has to go on a journey and really fall in love with her, and she with him. And it’s beautiful.

6. Ojamajo Doremi - Akatsuki/Doremi

I am still an Akatsuki/Doremi truther, I don’t want to think about them trying to set her up with her lame-ass classmate, even though that was probably where that was going. The Flat4 were so much cooler.

7. Ranma 1/2 - Ranma/Shampoo

If you asked me to pinpoint one piece of media that kickstarted me figuring out I am Not Straight, it was Ranma 1/2. This shit was too queer to keep kids straight, man. And shipping was like? Aspects of Ranma? Which? Both? Yes?

8. Gargoyles - Goliath/Elisa

Introductions into monsterfuckery, by Disney. It’s been so long since I watched this show, but I do remember loving those two and I am fairly sure this is at fault for the monsterfuckery.

9. Kim Possible - Shego/Kim

Not to copy Cherry’s homework, but yeah no definitely KiGo. Though I didn’t watch the whole show back when it first aired and only caught some episodes every now and again, the green-skinned villainess really got me and how often do you get a female hero/female villain dynamic? This was. Life changing. Yeah.

10. Digimon - Joe/Mimi

I’ve considered which one to pick, but I honestly think the only Digimon ship that I was invested in from the OG series there, from the beginning, were Joey and Mimi.

ワーゲンバスの車検準備で、ちょこちょこと車屋さんと作業中。バスは今年で６０歳、還暦を迎えます。毎車検時に予算が許す範囲内でいろいろ予備的に部品交換したりしてるんですが、今回も部品をいろいろと思いきって交換。目指せ１００歳。なんやかんや要交換なんですが、右目の眼球のガラスにヒビが入っててテープで止めているのが現状…前回の車検時に組み付けが良くなかったのか石飛びがあったのかわからんけど、ヘッドライトのレンズが割れてると車検通らな��のでしゃーなし。ガラスのみがflat4にて売ってあり助かりました。右目一式だとだいぶ高いはず。ウインカーレンズもだいぶ劣化しているので、こちらは大阪のフラワーパーツにてアッセンブリで購入。

時間が空いた時に一個ずつ交換作業してます。フォグランプもちょっと良さそうなのに変更。あとはドアのヒンジ関係。あと、ついに導入しましたKONIのサスペンション！！赤い！！たぶん前後両方に付けれるんやけど、とりあえず付けれるかわからないので２本だけ買ってみました。

ハンドルも車屋さんの社長と試行錯誤しながら、昔よく使われてたハンドル外しでゴキゴキいわせながら外しました。初めて見る工具に感心しきり。社長が引退されるまで、時間の許す限りいろいろ教わっておきたい。ハンドルもヒビが入ってたので、新しくなっていい感じ。いまだに新品がそれなりの金額で手に入るのは素人にはホント、ありがてぇことです。
