It was the sudden impact of light, the loud thudding noise that stirred a feeling inside her head as if her brain was whirring, as well as the tension she instantly felt beside herself, an indication that Alexander had woken and within an instant felt as restless as she did, her instinct kicking in and she wrapped her arm around him, hummed with satisfaction when even with her eyes remaining shut and her senses not entirely heightened, she could breathe in his unique scent of what remained from cigarettes and cigars, as well as whisky and spice. His bare chest was warm and he reached out with ease, grabbing the underside of her thigh to pull her leg that was already resting on his to the other side of his body, needing minimal movement until she was on top of him.
Jade opened her eyes the moment she shifted into her new position, her heart fluttering when the dark gaze of his chocolate brown eyes met her own, his features at ease, his lips chapped, but suggesting a softness she was already dying to feel. At the same moment, the blur in her mind finally made sense of the uncomfortable noise she'd been trying to block out.
“No, bof of ya are gunna get up reyht bloodeh now!”
Alex groaned, one of his hands sprawled out flat against Jade's back, the other still gripping on tightly to her thigh, until his throbbing headache and the hypnosis Jade offered even when light and noise had disturbed his sleep faded and reality prevailed, his eyes widening and he let go of her thigh to grab hurriedly at the covers she had discarded, pulling the satin sheets on top of them in an attempt to cover what his best friend hopefully had not yet seen.
The cackle that Miles was not his usual, cheerful one, but it was sarcastic rather, dismissive. “'m not fookin' lookin' at ya bride, Al, I'm tryin' t'get bof of ya in front of the altar on time!”
Jade's head was pounding and she rested her head against Alexander's shoulder, with her legs on either side of him and Alex throbbing against the inside of her thigh, she found it hard to focus on Kane's words, pressed herself against the warmth of Alex's chest, placing little kisses against his collarbone, toying with his chain, her heart falling into an irregular rhythm when she felt the light rumble in his chest, the soft laughter so close to her ear, making her gasp only when he bounced up his thigh, his growing length pushing up right between her legs, fuelling his gentle laughter.
His head was spinning, he could feel her nipples hard with her breasts pushed up against his chest, running his fingertips lightly up and down her thigh, then tilting his head slightly until he found her gaze again, pursing his lips before pressing them to hers needily, all-consuming and eager, pleased with the way her body curved further into his and a desperate moan fell from her lips.
Before he could draw another from her, part her thighs with his fingers and make her cry out into his mouth, he felt a tight restriction on the covers tucked beneath his own thigh, breaking the kiss and looking up to see Miles stood at the end of the bed, his brows furrowing.
“There ya go” Miles said, the satisfaction of having finally been noticed apparent in his voice as he locked eyes with Alexander.
Jade pouted at the sudden interruption, turned her head slightly and shifted to lie beside Alex again to look back to the foot of the bed, raising an eyebrow. “Go ahead” she shrugged.
Alexander tensed beside her, his gaze darkening. “No, dun't fookin' go a'ead, Mi” he spat.
Miles shrugged, his expression indifferent, unimpressed. He was already wearing a pair of tight suit trousers, burgundy red with a white shirt tucked in beneath his belt, the sleeves rolled up, an abundance of gold jewelry covering his chest. “You're not gunna fook 'ere reyht now. Ya put meh in charge 'n if ya dun't get up and let meh get ya bof readeh for ya bloodeh weddin' day, I'm goin' t'pull back those sheets.”
“I will 'ave yeh removed from me apartment.”
Miles tugged on the sheets slightly, raising his eyebrows.
Jade looked back and forth between them, well aware that Alexander's resistance at this point was no more than a demonstration of his authority and pride.
“Yeh wouldn't.”
“Al” Miles spoke slowly, his eyes locked on his. “I would.”
“Wha' the-...”
“No” Miles snapped, shaking his head. “Bof of ya fookin' asked meh t'keep ya apart last night, 'n then ya go off 'n sneak in 'ere. Wha's tha' about?”
Jade tightened her arm around Alex, biting her lip. “I missed him so much” she said.
Alex chuckled with satisfaction. “See” he said, shrugging conceitedly.
“See wha'?” Miles repeated, raising an eyebrow. “It were you tha' snuck in 'ere.”
“This is me own fookin' apartment.”
Miles sighed, exhaling loudly before he gave another tug on the covers, but before he could utter another threat, could hope another technique would work, Matthew opened the door yet again and Serena entered the apartment, two, three clicks of her heels, her steps slowing then halting and she raised an eyebrow, her gaze wandering from Miles to her brother.
“Oh, is the wedding off, fratello?”
“Fookin'ell” Alex groaned, the sinking feeling of defeat unfamiliar when he felt Jade slowly shift back and reach for her dressing gown beside the bed and he sucked in a breath when she sat up, nothing but her back on display to Serena and Miles, but was only able to relax once she'd tied the gown and turned around.
“Bella-...”
“I'm going to take a shower” she stated before either of the others could instruct her to anything else, passing them with her head held high, then locking the bathroom door behind herself with satisfaction.
With her hair brushed and damp, straight and combed to fall down her back, her skin layered in a rich lotion that enshrouded her in a misty cloud of orchid, rose and a hint of vanilla, her face shiny, glowing, she stepped out of the bathroom, only to discover that Alexander had been taken to Serena's place, but the excitement of what was to come, the memories of the previous night as well as the tingling anticipation for the following night overshadowed the disrespect both of them had faced that morning.
In the meantime, Lana had arrived at the apartment, as well as the woman she had selected with Miles to do her hair and make-up and she greeted everyone with an air of calm she had not known she possessed, drank the coffee Lana placed in front of her, followed by a glass of water and something to deal with the headache that had not yet entirely faded, then indulged in the delight of the luxurious champagne Miles and Lana were already sharing.
As her hair was being curled, brushed and styled, her facial features accentuated and enhanced with soft brushes of colour, she could slowly focus on the day ahead and with every passing second, she grew more impatient, wanted nothing more but to look at herself, to be proud and to see what she'd envisioned all along, could not wait to finally show Alexander and especially, could not wait until she would finally get to see him, knew that when approaching him, joining him at the altar, he'd look irresistible, would leave her head spinning the way she knew she would his. Despite the secretivity around the honeymoon, the music, the suit, she knew that no matter what he'd chosen, it would all be impeccable and he would stand in front of her and everyone to commit to her and declare he was hers while looking completely and utterly delicious.
Despite her impatience, it left her surprised when everyone stepped back and waited for her to stand up, a deep sense of pride filling her as she looked back at herself in the large mirror of her vanity. Her hair was shiny and now curled at the ends and fell elegantly down her back and shoulders, the top half separated and done up, allowing her face, the soft glow blending into the hint of pink in her cheeks on full display, her eyes surrounded by merely a gentle touch of colour, as well as a flawless frame of dark liner and thick lashes.
It was then she realised the other people in the room were practically holding their breath and she gave a subtle nod, a smile of contentment, then turned to look around for her dress.
“I've got it, bella” Miles declared, unzipping the plastic that had encased and protected the shine and perfection of white Jade had dreamt about almost every night since the purchase and when she saw it on full display and ready to be placed where it belonged, she was once again overwhelmed, barely noticing the click of the door behind her.
“Where is our beau'iful bride?”
Miles turned around, his smile growing. “Penneh, ya look stunnin'” he declared, pointing at Penny's dark blue costume, taking her hand as if to kiss it before she pulled him in to kiss both his cheeks, then wrapping her arms around Jade and hinting a kiss to both her cheeks before drawing back to greet Lana as well as the stylist.
“Thank you, bambino” Penny smiled. “I didn't mean to intrude, I just … Jade, once you're readeh, I would like to give yeh sumfin'.”
Jade's eyes widened. “Oh...” she said, adjusting the ring on her finger, then following Lana into the other room, carrying the dress carefully, blocking out the chatter she left behind, focused now entirely on completing the process.
It took mere seconds until she was glad in the glittery white fabric, until it accentuated all the curves and best features of her body the way she'd envisioned and she bathed in the attention she received when she stepped out, the kisses to her hands, the hugs, the compliments, already ached to experience it multiplied beyond once she would step into the church, her excitement increasing with each moment that passed and overshadowing the way the tightness of the material reminded her of each and every second of Alexander's hands on her the night before.
Before she could speak, Penny had already taken the veil from Miles and began to secure it to Jade's hair, the diamonds at the top matching those on the pins that held Jade's hairstyle. “Jade” she stated gently.
“Yes?”
“I do fink yeh didn't remember sum traditions” she stated, a smile playing around her lips and she reached into the pocket of her coat to draw out another diamond hair pin, a shimmery sapphire framed by the diamonds, then continued her work on the veil. “Yehr dress is rather new” she said. “So 'ere we have sumfin' blue, 'n old that you can borrow from me. I wore this on me wedding day.”
Jade pressed her lips together, her eyes wide and she refused to admit to herself or anyone else that she was threatening to taint the perfection of her make-up and instead stepped forward to wrap her arms around the slightly shorter woman, rubbed her back and squeezed her gratefully, had despite never having experienced anything but warmth and welcome from her not expected the acceptance and the affection she'd been face with. “Thank you” she whispered.
Penny drew back with a smile, adjusting the veil for her. “Yeh're almost readeh, eh, bambina?”
Jade bit her lip, the ruby red shine unaffected. “Penny” she said, unable to let the moment go without appreciating it fully, without pushing herself to react accordingly.
Penny looked back at her, smiling when Jade took her hand. “Yeh don't 'ave t'say anyfing.”
“I want to” she insisted, squeezing her hand. “Thank you. Not just for this, but … for making me feel welcome from the start and … making me feel like a real Turner.”
Penny chuckled. “Oh, you've been a real Turner in me 'eart since yeh stood up for me boy when we met yeh.” She smiled, shaking her head and leaning closer to her. “And darlin', her wedding day is the last day a woman should cry.”
It was then that time seemed to fly once more, Jade stepped into the white heels, diamonds at the back and beneath the heel, she adjusted her veil and exited the apartment, Lana and Miles busying themselves with her veil, Helders and Cook escorting them to the long white car, the Malaysian orchids accessorising the front and as she sat between Miles and Penny in the backseat, rushing through the city, the sun now high in the sky, she was on top of the world.
Halfway through the journey to the church, she felt a shift beside her, Miles shuffling closer to her side, his hand wrapping around hers, his rings cold against the warmth of her skin. “Bella?”
Her lashes fluttered as she looked back at him, licking her lips. “Kane?”
He cackled quietly, then leaned in until she could feel the scratch of his stubble against her cheek, his breath against her skin as he spoke for her and her alone. “'s not too late for ya t'run aweh wif meh.”
Jade rolled her eyes, shaking her head, a smile playing around her lips as she drew back to look at him, then leaned in to press a loving kiss to his jaw. “Zucchero” she smiled. “I don't think we'd get very far.”
While Alexander had always found immense pleasure in looking out across the city through the windows in Serena's apartment, he now barely registered the lights, the cars rushing by, the comfort he usually felt. With everyone asking him too many questions, giving him too much advice, Serena, his father, and he'd snapped, asked to have at least a moment of peace.
It felt like he'd tied his tie three too many times, like it was too loose now and he turned to give himself another look in the mirror, tilted his head, then stepped to turn to the side, admiring the way the suit fit him, accentuated his backside as well as his arms and chest, the material firm on his thighs, the legs the perfect length, his shoes shiny and he pursed his lips, pouted, raked his fingers through his hair.
He heard the clicking of heels behind him, breathed out when Serena's hand came down on his shoulder. Her body was clad in a crème, well-fitted suit, contrasted the darkness of his own look, his ruby red tie matching her satin blouse. “Are you ready to go, Alex?”
He pressed his lips together, looking back at her, his chest rising and falling slowly. “'ave I got yehr blessin', sorella?”
She lightly squeezed his shoulder, rolling her eyes with a smile. “My blessing's no good if you're late to your own wedding.”
With her hand still holding Miles', Lana and Penny taking care of her veil as she stepped out of the car, Jade felt like she was floating, like she could not hear the clicking of her heels on the dark asphalt. From the corner of her eye, she could see Alexander's car, had not once had any doubts that he would be there, be there before her and wait for her, but somehow, there was still a rush of relief, a tangibility, a realness to the moment that she had not felt quite like it previously, not when receiving the ring, not when planning and getting lost in preparation, not even in the morning when she'd woken tangled up with him and it seemed like nothing had really changed.
She felt a quick kiss to her cheek, turning her head to look back at Miles who was beaming back at her, adjusting her hair pin, then reaching into the inside of his suit jacket and pulling out a flask, popping it open to take a long sip. Jade raised an eyebrow and held out her hand, making him cackle, but comply.
She expected the bitterness to somehow soothe her, somehow snap her back into reality, but when the sweetness tingled her tongue, she swallowed hard, glaring at him and shaking her head. “I hate you, Kane.”
He cackled again, squeezing her hand and leading her forward, her breath shaking slightly as she saw her bridesmaids, the groomsmen, everyone preparing to enter the church, the Candy Kane taste on her tongue not helping. She saw Helders, his hand going to his ear and uttering a quick okay once Miles had given him a nod.
Instantly, she was eased when everyone's eyes fell to her, bathed in the attention and knew she could not wait any longer until the entirety of the church would see her, until Alexander would see her and then she heard the music starting from inside, her heart skipping a beat, her head spinning with the awareness that he was so close, that he was right there, it was like time passed much faster than it had before, despite her impatience it was too fast as one by one, the pairs of bridesmaids and groomsmen entered.
It seemed like the music grew louder, suddenly Miles was gone, Lana had taken her hand, but merely to whisper a few words of encouragement, she barely heard her, then watched her go into the church as well, Penny following until she was momentarily stood alone with the two flower girls, she felt like her vision blurred, recognised Miles' hand taking hers once again without looking at it was only when she heard his words that she composed herself, focused, snapped out of it.
“I'm gunna 'ead in now, bella.”
She blinked, and before she could ask, before the confusion could blur into anger, she realised they were no longer alone outside, the familiarity of the second pair of eyes, bright green and excited, that was looking at her making her heart pound and her own eyes widen, the overwhelming realisation of how out of control she was overshadowed by emotion she didn't know she had, the smile she had not seen since leaving Palermu, she willed herself to bite back the sob, to maintain the little bit of control she did have left.
She gasped, then inhaled shakily. “Papà.”
“Sei bellissima, stellina.”
She hardly noticed Miles buttoning up the jacket of his shiny suit, then hurrying into the church, a spring in his step. There were no guests left outside, all in attendance already in their seats and as Miles walked down the aisle, his shoes clicking slightly with his quick step even on the long carpet that led to the altar, lined with the shiny white chairs and guests turning to muster him curiously, he saw that despite his head moving along slowly to the music, despite the way his hands were folded over his belt, despite the calm his posture suggested, Alex was tense, his jaw clenching, his fingers unclenching from fists.
It was like he hadn't seen Jade mere hours ago, it wasn't like he'd been preparing for this moment, was responsible for it all with how badly he wanted her to be his, but as Miles came up the small set of stairs to the alter, passed him dramatically and paused to speak, his tension rose its peak.
“'s alreyht teh cry, Al” he whispered, ignoring the warning look Serena gave him as the flower girls already began entering the church, the flowers Jade had selected raining down on the audience. “No one's gunna blame ya wif the way sheh looks.”
“Stai zitto” Alex hissed, his eyes narrowing. “'m not gunna fookin' cry.”
Miles cackled before assuming his own position on the other side of the altar, watched the petals of burgundy red flying and then, there was a beat of silence, the song having faded and a new, much more powerful melody started, louder, the organ sound heavier, the doors that had momentarily closed opened again.
The entirety of his body tensed again, left him almost holding his breath as she slowly strode towards him, her steps slow, angelic as if she was floating towards him, the bottom of her dress shrouded in clouds of white smoke around her, her long legs visible through the transparent fabric, lace details decorating the sheer and glittery material, tight to her body all the way up into a short matte skirt underneath, structured and drawing attention to her curves, leading up into a tight lace bodice, the entirety of the dress never quite covering her tanned skin but covering just enough, the glittery white and lace of elaborate roses hardly hiding the skin or shape of her breasts, but leaving him wanting more effortlessly.
He ached instantly to see the gorgeous features of her face that he had come to adore so much and learned he would sacrifice anything for, frustrated by the shimmery veil that concealed the smile he knew she was wearing underneath as she reveled in the attention. He could hardly wait to see the colour of her plush lips, the shine of her eyes, her skin shiny, leaving him wanting to mark the flawless glow of it, with his lips, his teeth, the urge to hold her body in his hands, to feel her curve into him clad in white, his mind was running wild.
The closer she came, the more she could take in of him, despite everything he captured, demanded all of her attention, the veil exceptionally agonizing but as she ascended up the few steps, her heels clicking, yet clouded by the smoke, it took all her strength to not go right to him, to run her fingers gently over his hair to slick it back. It was perfectly styled in a way that reminded her of their first date, neat and tidy, yet quiffed as well as sleek. As she came closer, she could even through the veil see the depth, the intensity of his dark chocolate brown gaze, his eyes wide, attentive and fuelling a satisfaction like never before, reveling in the way he looked her her, his mask of calm and cool having slipped the moment he'd laid eyes on her and she finally came to a stop in front of him, Lana taking her bouquet for her.
His body was clad tightly in a black three-piece suit, well-tailored golden seams and buttons, the entirety of the jacket embroidered with black flowers, velvet and shiny, the white shirt a contrast underneath. The material of the trousers was tight on his crotch and his thighs, leaving her desperate to drop to her knees in front of him, worship him, her knees weakened and her cheeks flushed as she wondered if he could see her staring, as taken aback as he looked, he was in complete control of himself, the muscles tight in his neck, his adam's apple prominent in his throat as he swallowed and had her missing the way it would tighten his chest which was concealed by his shirt, a shiny red tie wound around his strong neck beneath the white collar.
His lips were pressed together, his cheekbones high with tension and he unfolded his hands, stretching his fingers slightly as she approached. He knew all eyes were on them, wanted desperately for everyone to see her as much as he wanted to see her, perfect and prepared to become his and his alone and demonstrate it to everyone that mattered in Napoli. His fingers tingled as her father placed his her hand in Alexander's, the warmth of her palm, the delicate way she instantly held on to his hand so familiar that all the secrecy the veil offered went up in smoke, she was his Jade and there was nothing different about her, his Jade that he would have done anything for, his Jade that would do anything for him and had because she'd seen all of him and loved him, cherished him, adored him no matter what, his Jade who he knew he could trust blindly and with his life regardless of what happened, unable to believe for a moment the weight his affection, love and devotion for her held and he helped her up to join him in front of the altar, held her hand tighter than necessary before letting go, could swear the soft laughter he heard broke him and he lifted his hands, lifted the veil from her face, unable to bite back the sob that erupted from his chest when the emerald green of her eyes met his, untainted joy and pride as well as confidence lacing her features as she stood before him, her dark hair framing the beauty of her face in contrast to the long veil that matched the sheeny bottom of her dress, the plush of her ruby red lips curled into a breathtaking smile.
Her heart dropped the moment she heard the choked sound, saw his chest shaking and his eyes sparkling beyond the wildness and excitement, unable to resist reaching out and wiping the corner of his eye, breathing out shakily when he leaned instantly into her touch. “All good, cucciolino?”
He sniffed, then straightened his posture, nodding confidently and licking his lips, mouthing a confirmation to her question before the officiant started speaking, but he hardly listened, had eyes for only her and took in everything about her yet again, how everything worked so beautifully to tempt and frustrate him as well as it pleased him, wanted to hold her as close as he could, conflicted if he wanted everyone to see or to see her just for himself.
She'd heard it all in the rehearsal, had gone through it, had no desire to pay attention to anything but Alexander standing before her, his wild eyes, the intensity of his gaze fuelling her confidence and she snapped back out of it only when Alexander cleared his throat, her tension evident and he took her hands, squeezing them slightly, unable to resist reducing the space between them at least slightly, allowing her to breathe in the spice of his cologne, a heavy cloud of smoke blurring into the smell.
“Jade.”
She breathed out shakily, biting her lip to suppress the nervous giggle, raising her eyebrows at him. “Alexander.”
He licked his lips. “I … uh...” He drew his hand from hers momentarily to scratch at his jaw, took in a shaky breath to compose himself. “I want teh … I...” He swallowed, clearing his throat again. “I promise yeh tha' … tha' bein' wif meh, yeh're never gunna want for anehfin'. Yeh're alwehs gunna 'ave evrehfin' yeh want, wha's mine 's yours, darlin'. I promise tha' I'm never going teh doubt yehr word, 'n tha' I'm gunna trust yeh.” He swallowed again. “Forever.”
Jade bit her lip, the weight of his words threatening to overwhelm her even though he'd only just begun and she squeezed his hands reassuringly, held his gaze confidently.
“I promise tha' … I'm alwehs gunna keep yeh safe, me love, 'n tha' … tha' yeh're never gunna 'ave anehfin' teh fear. I promise I will fulfill yehr evreh wish, I'll take care of yeh alwehs and in evreh possible way, I'll take care of yehr evreh need, I promise teh alwehs share me cognac wif yeh, I promise I'll never stop admirin' yeh, cherishin' evrehfin' about yeh, tell yeh 'ow exquisite yeh are. I promise teh never disrespect yeh, I'll never let anehbodeh 'urt yeh. I promise teh end anehbodeh tha tries teh bring us apart. I promise yeh're gunna beh me one 'n onleh. I'm gunna make yeh feel like the most powerful woman in the world, I promise yeh're alwehs gunna beh on top of the foo- on top of the world wif yeh.” He chuckled, smacking his lips together. “I promise teh no matter wha' 'appens beh devoted teh yeh and I promise I'm unconditionalleh yehrs. In eterno.”
Jade squeezed his hands, resisted the desperate urge to drop down to her knees in front of him, even resisted cradling his face in her hands to kiss him, resisted pulling on his shirt to get him closer. Instead, she pressed her lips together in order to contain her own emotion, took a deep breath in preparation for her own vows, the officiant directing his question at her, Alexander's smile fuelling her.
“Alexander...” She spoke, clearing her own throat as her voice was merely a hint. “Alexander, I want you to know that … that I'm always going to try my best to make you feel as invincible as you do me. I promise I will make you feel that you are always and without exception the most powerful man in every room, I will satisfy your every need. I promise I will respect you forever, I will be loyal to you always, I will appreciate you, support you and give you everything you need and deserve. I promise I will always be honest, I will never keep secrets from you. I promise to slow you down and to remind you who you are, to be there for you no matter what. I promise I will always light your cigarettes for you, I promise I will take care of you and do whatever it takes to make sure you're happy, Alexander. I promise I will remind you how gorgeous you are, but I will keep you grounded. You've brought out the best in me and I promise I will always do everything in my power to bring out the best in you. I promise, Alexander, I will never stop loving you.”
He didn't allow himself this time to show how much her words overwhelmed him, how high he felt from merely the awareness that she was going to be his forever, that he had her, that she'd stay with him, that she was his and only his to love and cherish, to be able to count on, to fall back on whenever he needed to, to spoil and to take care of. The excitement of knowing that he would be able to watch her be so unapologetically herself, to fall deeper for her every day, every week, every month and year that would pass, he was eternally grateful and squeezed her hands back, had to force himself to stay as he was, to not wrap his arms around her and make sure she knew exactly who she belonged to because she did.
“Do you, Alexander David Turner, take Jade to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
He snapped out of it, turning his head when Serena stepped forward to hold out the rings for them, Alex's fingers shaking as he took Jade's and she lifted her hand, his fingers gently wrapping around her wrist as he slid the wedding band onto her finger, could hardly contain the immense contentment he felt. His voice was deep as he responded, raspier than he'd anticipated. “I do.”
The officiant nodded. “Do you, Jade Valentina Rivera, take Alexander to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
The corners of her mouth twitched as she was unable to believe how close she was to officially being Alex's and she took the ring, stroking her thumb over the back of his hand before placing the ring on his finger, the way it shone on his hand making her head spin. “I do” she whispered, unable to stop herself from giggling, the way she made him smile in return making her heart flutter.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Before the last word had been spoken, Alexander closed the space between them and wrapped his arm around her, the unfamiliar ceremony and unusual distance they'd shared now overpowered by the intimacy and comfort of his lips crashing into hers, his hand cupping her face, sprawled out to make sure he held her in his hands and would keep her that way until they were satisfied, a low moan escaping his lips when he felt her kissing him back eagerly, her fingers clutching his shirt to draw him in, brushing back his hair behind his ear before cupping the side of his face, pulling him in closer, her nails digging into his skin slightly in a place she knew she would bruise later, moaning into his mouth quietly when he forced her lips apart with his, his fingers wandering lower, sprawled out flat against her back, feeling her bare skin before closing over the lace, squeezing her ass to draw her in closer.
“Alexander...” she whispered, her body curving into his willingly, impulsively, desperate to feel his touch, eager to fall back into their rhythm with the awareness that they were somehow stronger, more intimate and despite the day that lay ahead, she could not wait until they'd be alone that night, until he'd take her and give her everything he had for her.
He drew back breathlessly, overwhelmed by the comfort of her scent, his forehead pressed to hers and he stroked his knuckles over her cheek lovingly, the corner of his mouth twitching into a playful half-smile. “Fookin' love yeh” he rasped before capturing her lips with his again, his heart fluttering as he could feel her own, heard and felt her giggle shakily into the kiss, yet melting into his touch, submitting to him entirely.
Although the way back down the aisle and out of the church was short, flashes of cameras here and there, hugs and congratulations, it felt like hours until they were alone again, were rushed through hugs from Penny who had evidently cried during the ceremony, Miles who was still sniffing, both her parents, the overwhelming reality of seeing her mother over too soon, all bridesmaids and groomsmen, guests whose hands Alex had to shake, and when the doors of the long white car finally fell shut, it was like all the tension, all the unfamiliar impressions and all the expectations were gone.
Alex allowed himself to breathe out with relief, turning to look at her and everything fell into its natural place, it was just her and him, no one else who would see, judge, question and in the comfort of her presence and hers alone, it was like nothing had changed even though everything had changed, things were easy. “Jade” he chuckled, a familiar smirk playing around his lips when her eyes met his, threatening to weaken her further as he looked so irresistibly gorgeous, his hand creeping slowly up her thigh. “I ain't ever seen anehfin' as fookin' beau'iful as yeh.”
She smiled to herself, licking her lips. “Just beautiful?” She hummed, raising her eyebrows.
“I've got too maneh fookin' words” he drawled, chuckling softly, leaning in so she could feel his breath tickling her neck, his hand squeezing her thigh lightly where the fabric didn't cover her. His voice was deeper, huskier. “Mrs. Turner.”
She tilted her head back slightly to look at him, sighing when he pressed his nose to her shoulder and kissed her bare skin. “I like the sound of that, baby...” she hummed, resisting the urge to run her fingers through his hair, not wanting to mess up the neat style, the perfect quiff so instead scratching her nails lightly at the back of neck, smiling at the way he leaned instantly into her touch.
“Jade, I'm realleh fookin' 'appeh” he drawled, sighing. “Fank yeh.”
She sighed, her fingertips trailing down his crisp collar, toying with the top button. “Let's see some skin, mm?” She teased, stroking down his tie before loosening it with nimble fingers, generously undoing the top buttons to expose his chest, smiling at the chain underneath, toying with it for a moment before her eyes met his again. “Alexander?”
His brows furrowed, his eyes widening and he shuffled to sit straighter. “Yes, darlin'?”
She pressed her lips together, swallowing. “My parents...”
The corners of his mouth twitched, his lips pulling into a smile. “I thought yeh'd want them 'ere. 's … yehr big day, eh?” He nudged her shoulder gently with his nose again. “Thought it'd beh nice if yehr dad walked yeh down the aisle, eh? I didn't ask 'is permission but I felt like they should beh there...” He cocked an eyebrow, the smile slowly fading. “'s tha' not wha' yeh wanted?”
Jade swallowed. “I just … the surprise was … certainly a surprise.” She smoothed her fingers down his chest, taking the tie off him and discarding it to the seat. “And it was so overwhelming. I only … I didn't have time to speak to them. Said nothing to my mother.”
“They'll beh proud of yeh, doll. 'n weh 'ave all the time in the world teh bloodeh catch up, eh?”
“Have you spoken to them? Or was it all Miles?” She asked.
“I talked t'yehr dad on the phone” he said. “Found 'em 'n called. Told 'im I were marryin' yeh. 'e knew me name. 'e were worried.” He shrugged. “I said nofin's as important t'meh as yeh, doll. I told 'im I'd protect yeh wif me life. 'n I told 'im they can come teh our weddin'. All on us.”
“On us?”
“Wha's mine is yehrs, doll.”
Upon entering the hotel, Alexander was required instantly to speak with some people, whisked away and promising Jade he wouldn't be long after a kiss that had him desperate to take her right there and then.
He followed Helders into the large ballroom of the hotel, overwhelmed momentarily by the detail of the decoration, the impressive architecture of the hall in itself as well as the white chairs and tables with golden accents, the red and golden centerpieces on the tables, the flowers that lined the columns and most of the wall on all sides, the glass floor, the magic of it all, as well as band in the corner, each member dressed in a shiny black suit, the man in front of the microphone diverting his gaze when Alex looked directly at him.
Alex willed himself to focus on the quick exchanges with business partners, the congratulations he was receiving, relieved when it became more and more evident that his patience was not to be tested, that there was a limit to the nerve he had for business on his wedding day, Miles appearing and leading him away and towards the head table as most other people settled, now clad in a tight leopard print suit, the pattern black and red, a black shirt underneath that exposed as much skin as Alex's.
He was scanning the room for Jade, regretful he'd allowed himself to be away from her for so long but could find her nowhere, parting his lips to speak when Miles knowingly shook his head, guided him to sit down as most other guests had at their tables,
Little had he noticed that the doors had closed again, that the music intensified as he was now sat with his parents, Jade's parents, Miles and Lana as well as Serena and Idalia, Serena's date that Alex had not yet met officially. And then the doors were opened once again by Matt and Jamie, Jade stepping inside.
Alex knew he should have expected nothing less than a second opportunity for her to showcase her extravagance, the fabric that clung to her body now accentuating every curve in a way he had never seen before, her long legs clad in transparent white lace, thick and tight to her body. The sleeves of the matching top were long, her skin sun-kissed in contrast underneath. The material of the top was joined together merely at one point below her breasts, her shoulders hardly covered in a way that drew attention to her breasts, her slender neck, and her bare skin over her collarbones.
Her diamond heels clicked as she approached the head table, clouds of white smoke at her feet reflecting in the mirrored floor, her hair now down and soft and wavy at the ends, her lips a darker red, and he could see the shine of her eyes even from the other end of the room, rising from his seat when she'd walked around to take her own beside him, his hand instantly coming down on her lower back to guide her, then sitting down with her, pressing a kiss to the soft skin below her ear, breathing in the scent of fresh roses and bubbly champagne.
He knew that at least one of the reasons for her choice of the tight lace two-piece was that while it teased all of her with her skin shimmering through everywhere between the lace, it left him with absolutely no access to her, forced to merely admire her, possibly tease her with his words, and especially that realisation made him want her more than ever, stretching his lip slowly as he spoke. “Yeh're fookin' exquisite, darlin'.”
Whilst Alexander had been busy appreciating, reveling in the way Jade had blown him away, the dishes for the first course were already circling the room, the waiters and waitresses dressed in black and white with golden ties. Despite the heavenly smell of the three dishes, salt-roasted shrimp, grilled shrimp with oregano and lemon, and fritto misto with fennel and lemons, Alexander could hardly contain his anticipation for the desserts he'd chosen.
Throughout the entire starter, Alex's hand did not budge from her thigh, the heat of his palm with the cool metal of his shiny ring a constant reminder that he was right there, how close he was and that despite the chatter, the delicacies in front of them, the music, the laughter, she held his full attention.
Even as the the main course was served, leaving the guests to choose between squid ravioli with mussels cacio with white seabass fillet in fish soup and swordfish piccata with trouffle, Alex requesting both for himself as well as Jade, he stayed close to her, alternating between overlooking the ballroom as if it were his kingdom and leaning over to Jade to make sure she knew at all times how captivated she had him. She turned to glance to the ends of the table to her parents, was equally relieved it wasn't time to speak to them yet, as well as anxious about when the time would finally come.
His warmth was overwhelming as well as comforting and she couldn't wait to dance with him, to be close to him, to feel the tight muscles of his body against her, his hands on her, anticipating the way he'd make her tremble, the way she would curve into him and as the desserts came, Alex having selected tiramisu, panna cotta with trouffle and gold leaf cannoli, she couldn't help but watch him, the bliss on his face evoked by the sweetness, the way he licked the cream and sugar from his lips, the way his eyes sparkled and he could not get enough, Miles giving him his cannoli and Serena her panna cotta.
When hardly any cuttlery was moving across dishes, when there was more chatter and laughter, Alex rose from his chair, reluctantly moving his hand from Jade's thigh, signalling with the ring of his spoon against his glass and a clearing of his throat, any conversation subsiding instantly.
“Y'know 'm a man o' few words, so I'm gunna keep this short...” he drawled, licking his lips. “I joost wanna say a few fings 'bout me fookin' breaftakin' bride.” He smiled, his heart skipping a beat as Jade looked up at him lovingly. “Fookin'ell” he breathed. “Look at 'er. Isn't sheh the most magnificent beauteh yeh've ever seen?”
He sighed, allowing himself a long look at Jade, smoothing back her hair before he continued. “I wanna fank evrehbodeh for comin'. All the beau'iful bridesmaids and me groomsmen, Mi, fanks for lookin' after us, plannin' sooch a spectacular event wif us. I wanna fank me padre for trustin' meh wif yehr life's work. It's made meh the man I am todeh, for Jade and for evrehbodeh tha' I work wif. I want teh fank me mamma for alwehs 'avin' me back 'n believin' in meh. Serena, fank yeh for givin' meh yehr blessin', for gettin' meh 'ere on time and bein' by me side through evrehfin'.” He turned to look at Jade's parents, nodding respectfully. “Flavia, Benino, 'm so 'appeh yeh're 'ere teh celebrate wif us.”
He then addressed the rest of the guests again, clearing his throat. “Fank yeh all for comin'. 's been a fookin' rollercoaster, eh, darlin'?” He drawled, placing his hand on her shoulder, relaxing instantly when she reached up to lace their fingers together. “I were weak for yeh the moment yeh got in me car, doll. Evrehbodeh could see tha' except for meh...” He looked over to his dad, chuckling to himself. “It took meh a while teh see tha' I were yours, darlin'...” He licked his lips. “I didn't realise for a long time joost 'ow far yeh'd go for meh, tha' yeh was evrehfin' I'd needed and tha' even though it were too good teh beh true, nobodeh is as true 'n as loyal as yeh are. Yeh 'ave so mooch passion 'n integriteh, yeh challenge meh 'n make meh better. Yeh take meh 'n want meh joost the way I am. Teh you, darlin'.” He lifted his glass, satisfied with the way all other guests mimicked the movement and he took a sip before leaning down to capture Jade's lips in a quick kiss as he sat back down.
“Right” Serena said, standing up with a smile. “I am going to actually keep it short. Jade and I have had our differences and in the beginning, I didn't quite trust her. But the more time passed and the more I saw her with my brother, the more I understood that she deeply cares for him and that she would do anything for him. I have never seen my brother so happy and so content in who he is. To the new Mr. and Mrs. Turner.”
Yet again, everyone raised their glasses and Jade smiled, giving Serena an appreciative nod, her eyes widening when her father rose to his feet, Alex leaning back slightly as if it was the most natural thing to do, his hand squeezing Jade's, her heart pounding in anticipation at the unexpected words.
“Ciao a tutti, I'm very grateful that Alexander invited us because even though we haven't seen our stellina in so long, we couldn't be happier that she's thriving and happy. I can tell she has everything she wants and that she is on top of the world, being taken care of and has grown into a incredible young woman. We're very proud of you, stellina.”
Jade sniffed quietly, merely audible for Alexander who instantly squeezed her hand, saw her blinking the tears from her eyes and patting the corner of her eye with the tip of her finger, looking up desperately to compose herself, her chest slightly shaky as her father sat back down, from one side of the ballroom, two waiters entered with a cart that carried the pompous five-tiered wedding cake Alex had chosen, white with red floral details, glittery and with specs of gold scattered all over the flawless smooth surface, Alex's eyes wandering with excitement from the luxurious piece of art to Jade, satisfied with the way her eyes widened at the sight and she squeezed his hand.
“Wow” she whispered as the cake was placed in front of them, one of the staff handing her the large knife. “Oh” she giggled, turning to Alex. “Would you like to do the honours, Alexander?”
He cocked an eyebrow, shaking his head and cupping her hand over the handle of the knife. “You 'n meh togefer, doll.”
Alexander was as excited to taste the cake himself as he was to feed it to Jade, could not wait to find out what she thought, could not wait to indulge her and see her reaction, his eyes eager and wide when the spoon disappeared between her plushy red lips and she hummed appreciatively, her eyes closed momentarily before she held his gaze once again, a moment too long to tease him out of his mind.
Although she had expected his reaction, the way he lost himself completely in the sweetness and sugar, licked the cream from his lips and savored the taste of sugared almonds, madagascan vanilla frosting and a hint of rose, the delicacy as exquisite as his kisses, she could not get enough of watching him, the soft moan he gave too much for her to handle and when they were interrupted by Miles' voice announcing their dance, she had almost forgotten how excited she'd been to share her first dance with Alexander.
The moment they stood in the middle of the ballroom, his hand found her lower back, his fingers lacing with hers, his palm warm and comforting against hers and she could feel the heat of his skin at her back through the lace, instantly stepping closer to him when he gave a gentle push, allowing her to feel the strong beat of his heart, the firmness of his body. The quiff on top of his head had come undone ever so slightly, and she brushed it back delicately before her hand came down on his shoulder, toying with the collar of his shirt, her breath shaking when he leaned forward and they were cheek to cheek, the song slowing, fading, then blurring into Love Theme.
The shaky giggle he could feel tickling his skin gave him immense satisfaction, although he was certain she would have expected his choice of music for their first dance, it pleased him that she was taken aback and somewhat overwhelmed, pressing herself closer to him, her breasts pushed up against his chest, her floral scent clouding his mind, drawing him further under her spell.
It was like everyone and everything around them blurred, leaving them completely absorbed in each other, her breath shaking slightly when she felt his hand wander lower, cupping her ass and squeezing lightly, the roughness of the lace brushing against her skin and he closed his eyes, reveled in the feeling of how effortlessly he could overwhelm her. “Jade” he rasped. “Yeh've got no idea wha' I want teh do t'yeh.”
She shivered from the feeling of his lips moving against her neck, pressing a featherlight kiss to her skin. “Alexander” she warned, pressing herself close to him. “Not yet...”
He could tell how much self-control her resistance cost her, pulled her in closer. “I can't wait until tonight, darlin'...” He whispered. “Wanna show yeh 'ow mooch I need yeh...” He gave a light squeeze of her ass, his frustrated hum making his chest vibrate lightly. “Fookin'ell, tha' bloodeh lace...”
She breathed out shakily, biting her lip, her lips twitching at the way she'd had him frustrated exactly how she'd wanted, had planned to tease him, revel in his undivided attention, his hungry gaze on her until all the tension would have pent up to the point where he wouldn't be able to help letting it out on her once they were alone. She knew she should have considered her own need for him at the same time, now having to face the fact that she was just as desperate for him as he was for her.
Before she could respond, warn him again or attempt somehow to resist him, she was relieved as well as disappointed that the song ended, faded into another and Miles stood directly behind Alexander, tapping his shoulder.
“I'd like a dance wif the groom” he declared.
Jade smiled knowingly, smoothing her knuckles gently over Alexander's cheek, pecking his lips before stepping back and leaving him temporarily to Miles.
Alex laughed quietly under his breath as Miles placed his hand on his lower back and took his hand, wiggling his eyebrows, merely catching Alex's gaze once he'd torn his eyes away from his bride, not quite ready to let her go, but slowly relaxing into Miles' touch and placing his hand on his shoulder when a new song started and he was instantly overwhelmed by his best friend's heavy perfume.
“Wha'?” He asked sceptically as he caught Miles' smile, cocking an eyebrow.
“Are ya 'appeh?”
The expression in his features softened instantly and he swallowed, nodding slowly, unable to stop the smile that twitched into his lips. “Yeh” he said with a slow exhale. “Fanks for evrehfin', Mi.”
Miles smirked, wiggling his eyebrows. “Ya could still run off inteh the sunset wif meh, Al” he said, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
“I'm a married man now, Mi” he chuckled, shaking his head.
He winked. “Wha' ever 'appened teh not cryin' though, eh?”
Alex diverted his gaze, letting it wander across the other couples that had started dancing. For a moment, he realised how far he'd come ever since he'd met Miles, had allowed him the power to make Alexander doubt things as well as improve them. “Y'kno' I dun't fink I'd beh doin' this reyht now if it weren't for yeh, Mi...”
His eyes widened, the playfulness fading as he realised the weight of Alex's words. “Al, 's all you, y'kno'. None o' this is because of meh...”
“Yeh've fookin' kept meh sane. Made meh more sure of who I am, eh?” He squeezed Miles' shoulder. “Showed meh wha's strength 'n wha's weakness.” He paused, then looked down, a clear indication that were was more he didn't think he could express, but the nod Miles gave in return and showed him he understood relieved him enough to continue speaking. “I dunno if Jade's 'appeh wif the surprise of 'er parents 'ere.”
Miles looked over Alex's shoulder. “Sheh's dancin' wif 'er padre now, Al” he said. “Also, 'er mum's a fookin' stunner, ain't sheh? Did ya kno' tha'?”
Alex chuckled, subtly turning his head to look over to Jade's mother sat at the head table still, her hair the same colour as Jade's, her eyes a rich brown darker than Alex's own, a youthfulness to her that prevailed her actual age and allowed her to command the attention of the room in a way only Jade could. “Not until todeh” he said.
“Maybeh yeh should go over 'n talk to 'er” Miles said as the song slowly came to an end, slowing his movements. “Onleh talked to 'er dad this mornin'.”
Alexander nodded. “Reyht” he said. Despite the conversations he'd had with Jade's father, flying them in and making sure they'd have everything they needed in Napoli, despite the awareness that not even her parents would be able to keep him away from Jade, he wanted to make sure that his main goal, Jade's contentment and happiness were ensured so he gave Miles a nod of grattitude and stepped away to sit down in the seat beside Flavia Rivera that her husband had left empty to dance with his daughter.
She looked up, her gaze despite the lack of colour almost as strong as Jade's in intensity. “Alexander” she said.
He gave a charming smile. “Are yeh not enjoyin' yehrself, Flavia?” He asked, pursing his lips.
“Are you asking me to dance?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
Alex chuckled, tilting his head to the side in an attempt to respond before he was interrupted by a gentle weight on his shoulder than he would have identified as Jade's touch anywhere and the tension in his body was eased instantly, his head tilting to nuzzle his cheek against Jade's hand, looking up. “'ey, principessa” He hummed, placing his hand on top of hers. “D'yeh 'ave a loveleh father-daughter dance?”
“We did indeed” Jade's dad confirmed.
“Alexander was just asking me to dance” Flavia hummed.
Jade swallowed at the effortlessness with which her mother understood to ease the distance that had formed between them over the last few years, despite the reassurance of her father that she had not been shunned or forgotten by them but merely supported from a far, trusting her to take what she wanted even if it did not involve them, there was a weight that even she didn't know how to lift. “He's too handsome to deny, isn't he?” She asked, brushing her fingers gently through Alexander's hair, smiling to herself at the way he leaned instantly into her touch yet again. “I can never deny him anything.” The look on his face melted her, made her aware yet again that he knew her needs and desires better than her, had outdone himself with the music, the food, had flown her parents in, provided yet again what she hadn't even known she needed.
“I'm sure he feels exactly the same about you, stellina” Her father chuckled.
“Oh, I could never possibleh deny yehr daughter anehfin', Benino” he drawled. “And I dun't ever want teh.”
“As long as you keep all your promises to her, I don't think we could ask for a better man for our daughter” Flavia stated. She then shifted to reach into her bag stood on the floor beneath the table, drawing out a small box, matte black with a midnight blue bow. “I don't know if you knew you were going to get married when you left for Napoli” she said as she rose to her feet and handed the box to Jade. “You forgot this.”
Jade swallowed, willed herself to yet again conceal the emotion that threatened to overwhelm her, the box cool in her warm palms and Alexander's arm looped around her waist as she took off the top and glanced at the simple gold necklace.
“Wha's this, darlin'?” Alex drawled quietly, nudging her cheek lightly with his nose.
Jade smiled, her voice more fragile than she would have liked. “I used to want to wear this to my wedding when I was a little girl” she said. “I always tried it on and was frustrated that it was too long.” She reached quickly to undo the tiny gold clasp, Alex already reaching to take it from her and secure it around her neck, the warmth of his touch relaxing her slightly. “I used to wear it when playing dress-up.”
He gently stroked her hair to the side, smiling. “It looks beau'iful, pupa.”
Benino smiled. “I couldn't agree more.”
Jade bit her lip, then stepped forward and out of Alex's embrace to wrap her arms around her mother, relieved instantly as she relaxed into her arms. “Grazie, mamma” She whispered. “For everything.”
Flavia smiled, rubbing her back. “We love you, stellina.”
It was only when Jade's parents had shared a dance and Alex had claimed Jade for the next three that Miles stepped up to them again, this time requesting Jade's hand, so Alex retreated to acquire the dance he'd meant to ask Jade's mother for, but as they danced, exchanged a few words with Alex assuring her how well he would take care of Jade and how he would make sure she would never have to ask for anything, he grew more and more frustrated with the way his best friend danced with his bride, Miles' hand as low on Jade's back as it could be, sprawled out and pressing her body close to his, making her laugh, making her lean in to him, fuelling Alex's desire for her yet again and as song as the song ended, he gave Flavia a respectful nod, then crossed the dancefloor, couples on both sides of him making room and he placed his hand right below Miles' hand when he reached them, pushing up his best friend's hand and catching his eyes.
“I'd like me Jade back.”
She turned her head, tilting it slightly as she looked back at him, her lips curling into a playful smile, left both men thinking for a moment that she would toy with Alexander, would not make things so easy for him but with his palm warm against her back, the heat making her skin tingle through the lace, his scent overwhelming her, she let go of Miles' hand and curved her body into Alex's, purring softly when he let out a hum of satisfaction, her arm wrapping around him, her fingers in his hair instantly as she pressed her lips to his.
Alex moaned into her mouth, the sudden kiss making all his control go up in smoke and his grip tightened on her ass, the way she was pressed up against him making his head spin and he cupped the side of her face, made sure she stayed as she was, groaning into the kiss when she pulled on his hair, effortlessly fuelling his lust for her.
She gasped softly as he forced her lips apart with his and his tongue danced with hers, making her submit to him with ease, the way he groped at her reminding her yet again of the night before, his eagerness, his insatiable need for her and limitless desire to evoke the bliss within her that only he was capable of. She was burning at merely the thought of the night that lay ahead, panting when he pulled back, his hands maintaining a tight grip on her.
“Let meh take yeh, doll” he rasped.
She pressed her lips together, breathing heavily as her gaze met his, his forehead pressed to hers, his eyes hooded. “Alexander...” she whispered, licking her lips. “Tonight.”
“Let's break the fookin' rules again” he growled.
Jade swallowed, was desperate to give in to him, but she'd purposely selected the lace suit, had sworn she stand her ground, knew it would be worth it if he let out everything that built up within him for her all throughout the day once they were alone again. “Alexander” she warned.
His eyes darkened, the depth of his voice increasing. “Yeh're not wearin' anehfin' under tha' are yeh?”
His sudden words made her lips twitch and she held his gaze shamelessly as she shook her head, a sultry pout causing his hands to clamp down tighter on her. “I wasn't wearing anything under the dress either.”
His eye twitched and he stretched his jaw, but before he could attempt to persuade her, her lips were against his ear.
“I can't wait for later, baby” she purred, the soft sigh she breathed out bordering a faint moan. “I want you to take me so hard, Alexander” she hummed, well aware that she was playing a dangerous game, that it wouldn't take much for him to turn the tables on her, to beat her at her own game. And he would win. “Promise me you're going to ruin me.” She paused, yet continued before he could respond. “Promise me you won't stop until I tell you to.”
His mind was clouded with lust, his desperation limitless. “Fookin'ell, Jade” he breathed, gritting his teeth, his features tense, his arm straining against her back. “I promise I'll-...”
“Alexander!”
Alex stretched his lip, lifted his gaze and loosened his grip on Jade, ready to express his anger to whoever had dared to interrupt, but then he saw the soft smile on Jade's face and she stepped back so he could hug Giulia. “Oh, Giulia!” He drawled, the charming smile returning instantly to his face and he wrapped his arms around the elderly woman. “'s foo-... 's so nice t'see yeh.”
She laughed, rubbing his back gently before drawing back to hug Jade. “Oh, so beautiful” she said. “I just knew you had something special when you brought her to the shop.”
Alex chuckled. “I 'ope yeh're 'avin' a good time” he hummed, touching her shoulder gently. “Yeh look loveleh.”
“And I brought you your favourites, bambino” she smiled. “The only occasion I would come to you.”
His eyes sparkled and he grinned. “Yeh're the best, Giulia.”
The moment they'd committed to conversation again, the opportunity to toy with each other did not present itself again any time soon, drawing them into many different exchanges, the temptation of the luxury of the cake, Alexander making sure that even when he wasn't stood with Jade, that she had a drink in her hands at all times, could tell that the blur in her mind was one that had her content and relaxed, relieved when he finally could make his way over to her again alone as the sun had already set and he joined her at the bar.
She breathed him in before she saw him, felt him before she heard him, the spice and cigarette smoke surrounding her, his warm palm on her hip. “Alexander” she whispered.
“'ello, me darlin'” he hummed, placing down his own empty glass on the bar counter, reveling in the way she instantly leaned back into him, her back against his chest and he pressed a loving kiss to her shoulder before snapping to the bartender, ordering. “In Eterno.”
“Oh” Jade breathed. “This is the one you didn't let me try.”
Alex chuckled, his voice deep, his breath tickling her skin. “Preciseleh.”
The way she leaned into him so naturally and fearlessly had him content and more relaxed than he had been all day and he hummed with appreciation when the drink was placed in front of her, blood red with a gold straw and decorated with one of the orchids frozen in a flat cube of ice.
“For evreh element yeh guess correctleh...” he rasped, pressing a kiss to her skin below her ear. “I'll give yeh 'n orgasm wherever yeh ask on our 'onehmoon.”
She breathed out shakily, swallowing hard and wrapping her fingers eagerly around the glass, the coolness of it chilling the warm palm of her hand and she took a long sip, letting the flavour dance over her tongue, the bitterness, the sugar, the spice. “Mmm...” she hummed, could feel the shift behind her, Alexander making sure he could take in the look on her face as she closed her eyes and savored the unique taste, the liquor unlike anything she'd ever tried. “That's...” She gasped and turned as she swallowed, her eyes meeting his with complete and utter adoration. “Is that the...” She pressed her lips together. “The Louis Black Pearl?” She breathed in disbelief.
He chuckled, nodding contently. “Well, in yehrs. I 'ad it made wif 'ine for evrehbodeh but us. The rest of the bottle's gunna wait for yeh in our 'onehmoon suite.”
She cupped his face into her hands, nearly broke all her rules and dropped to her knees for him right then and there, knew he wouldn't have allowed it, but appreciated the sheer devotion and desperation to satisfy him. Instead, she pressed a soft kiss to his lip and brushed her fingers through his hair affectionately.
“Mmmm, Jade...” he hummed against her lips, tasting the exquisite drink on her tongue. “Wha' else, eh?”
She smiled triumphantly when she drew back, licking her lips. “Mmmm, ginger and chili” she stated with confidence. “Strawberry vodka” she added.
He nodded, wiggling his eyebrows. “Two more.”
She smirked. “Vanilla?”
“And?”
“Cream.”
He leaned in to kiss her again, his heart fluttering at the way she smiled against his lips. “Well done, pupa.”
It was the sudden screetch instead of a new song, a dull thud, the speakers adjusting. “Signore e signori...” Miles slurred, easily drawing the attention of each and every guest in the ballroom to the small platform the band stood on, the singer having stepped to the side to make room for him.
His shirt was further unbuttoned than it had been before, there were dark red marks on his neck and he was holding a glass of champagne, cackling quietly. “I know 's not me job teh give a speech but...” He licked his lips, his eyes searching for Alexander, then he pointed when he found him. “Me favourite boy got married todeh.”
Alex took a deep breath, shaking his head, unable to help a small smile when Jade giggled and pressed herself close to his side, her hand smoothing down his chest.
“Tha's reyht” Miles drawled. “I dunno anehbodeh tha's more special, y'kno'?” He sighed. “When I first met 'er and saw tha' sheh were easileh fookin' wif 'is 'ead more than meh, I knew sheh were reyht for 'im. Jade, bella, you're 'n absolute doll. You're as pretteh as 'im 'n yeh make 'im feel like 'imself more than anehbodeh else. 'n 'e's gunna make sure ya 'ave the world, eh?” He wiggled his eyebrows, taking a sip from his glass, then cackling. “Plannin' this day were a blast 'n 's fookin' perfect for ya.”
He took a breath. “I dun't want t'share too mooch, but … for a while Al were not doin' well 'n it broke me 'eart. Fings 'appened tha' 'e didn't deserve 'n...” He bit his lip, choking out a sob before wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. He sniffed. “So I can't express t'ya wif 'ow mooch joy it fills me 'eart tha' … tha' 'e's 'appier than 'e's ever been, alreyht?” He breathed out shakily, then lifted his glass. “Teh Jade 'n Alexander Turner...”
Jade laughed, her face against Alex's chest and she clapped as everyone else clapped, then took her drink and drank when Alex's glass met hers and everyone around them focused from Miles on them, Alexander laughing, his cheeks flushed and he pressed a kiss to her lips that tasted like sugar and bitterness and everything she promised for later.
“Oh...” Miles slurred. “Loveleh, I were … I were s'posed teh announce Jade throwin' 'er flowers. The uh … Malaysian … oh, I forget the name. Jade, bella, c'mere...”
Jade's eyes widened and she took another sip from her drink before kissing Alexander's cheek and stepping out of his embrace, Lana at the foot of the platform on the side handing her her bouquet while simultaneously watching Miles.
Slowly, the women gathered behind her, women she had never seen, but also Serena and Idalia, her mother, Penny, Lana, her friends, and she turned around with her bouquet, taking a deep breath before completing the tradition, sending the flowers flying, only to turn around and lock eyes with Penny who held the bouquet in her arms and laughed, her face flushed.
Before Jade could exit the small stage again, she heard a few tones from the piano, recognised instantly the song he'd heard mere hours ago, safe in Alexander's arms when swaying with him for the first time that day and saw him sat at the large piano, turning around to look at her and beckoning her over with a pointed gaze and a nod, her heart pounding when he shifted slightly and she sat down beside him, the moment he was close enough resting her head on his shoulder to get lost in the way his long fingers moved swiftly across the keys, evoked her favourite melody from the instrument, hardly noticing that behind her, Serena and Idalia were ushering all the guests to slowly exit the hall and step outside into the outdoor area.
The echo of the music dipped the whole ballroom into a blur of sound and Jade closed her eyes, reveled in the warmth and the melody, the soft hum from Alex's lips, joining in halfway through. It was then that she realised the day was almost over, that soon he would whisk her away to the mystery destination of their honeymoon, the thought of his promises igniting a fire within her that she had not allowed before, in fear it would consume her and render her too desperate for the events of the day, would fuel her to give in to him way too soon.
It was only when Alex concluded the song and lifted his gaze that she opened her eyes, jumping slightly when a sudden loud noise ripped through the silence, its origin clear only from the drizzled sound that followed and easing her and when she turned, she saw the bursts of colour ascending into the dark night sky outside.
She looked to Alexander, yet found him as surprised as her, as taken aback by their solitude in the room, but he was quick to rise to his feet and hold his hand out for her, her palm warm and comforting in his as he led her down the two steps, her heels clicking on the mirrored floor and his hand came down on the small of her back, guiding her into the garden area, illuminated by a sea of tiny lights in each and every spec of green, every tree and laced into the ground, but it was the spectacle of colour in between the stars in the night sky that took her breath away.
Jade wrapped both her arms around Alexander beside her. “Miles and I didn't do this...” she said quietly, relieved they were largely unnoticed by the guests.
“Neifer did I...” Alex hummed and before he could search for Miles' gaze among the crowd ahead of them, it was Serena that turned around with her gaze searching, smiling when she caught his, her arm swung around and swaying with her date as the band slowly started playing again, a mere continuation of Alexander's Love Theme. She smiled at her brother, satisfied that him and Jade were there to see and gave him a pointed nod up at the sky.
Alex blew her a dramatic kiss before guiding Jade's head to his chest, relaxing slowly when she pressed herself closer to him, squeezed him. “I luv yeh, darlin'” he drawled, his lips against her hair, his fingers brushing through it at the back of her neck. “I promise yeh the world.”
“I know, Alexander” she whispered, closing her eyes. “I love you.”
He hummed contently, her words easing him further and overwhelming him all the same with their sincerity. “'m all yehrs, principessa. Yeh're never gunna regret todeh, I promise yeh tha'. Yeh'll 'ave evrehfin'.” He pressed another kiss to her hair before continuing. “Would give me life for yeh, Jade.”
