#floaty review box

Note
Do you think there's a skin or a script or something or other to comment on specific chapters while reading in entire work? Like a comment button somewhere around the chapter end notes.
There used to be a floaty review box thingy script which may or may not be what you're looking for, but as I've never personally used it, I don't know if it still exists and works.
Opening this up to the blog for anyone to reblog or chime in on with information. Sorry I don't have a good answer right now, but hopefully someone in the notes does @frogwithapen !

i have a disease called "continuing to write comically far past the point any reasonable person would have stopped" with comorbid "endless parentheticals and tangents branching off into other tangents" and it's incurable but with the power of ao3 floaty review box plugin at least i can channel it into a good cause

Floaty Review Box update:
Removed the last chapter link from listing pages entirely since it’s available from AO3, also removed links to the Floaty Review Box from appearing on non-fic pages.

This is your periodical reminder to download your favorite fics from ao3 every once in a while!!
Personally, I got into the habit of doing it once a year, when I'm working on my "Favorite" fic recs.
While I'm at it, here's a few tools I use that help greatly with my Ao3 experience!
Userscripts
Here's a few userscripts that I love for Ao3!
AO3: Kudosed and seen history: Highlight or hide works you kudosed/marked as seen.
This is the userscript that helps me the most when making fic recs. While browsing a tag or my history, I can see which fics I've already kudosed and I can decide to skip/hide individual fics (there's other userscripts out there if you want to permanently hide specific tags).
AO3 Review + Last Chapter Shortcut + Kudos-sortable Bookmarks: Adds shortcuts for last chapter and a floaty review box, sorts bookmarks by kudos.
AO3: Estimated Reading Time: Add an estimated reading time to a fic description in hours and minutes.
Calibre
Calibre is an ebook management software. You can download it here. I really love using Calibre to send fics I've downloaded to my kindle, but there's also a function where you can download all the fics in one Ao3 page, or multiple fics URLS, all at the same time. Just last night, I used it to download all my Buddie bookmarks. Super helpful! It also allows me to add my own covers to fics and use them on my Kindle. I love it!

Alrighty, so who here likes the Floaty Review Box on Ao3?
Probably a whole lot of you. I personally use this version here which does the floaty review box, additional buttons for first/last chapter for a fic, and kudos sortable bookmarks. Admittedly I don't really utilize that third option, but the first/last buttons are of great usefulness to me so that plus the floaty review box make it one of my favorite scripts to use with Ao3.
However, I also want that functionality on SquidgeWorld. Which, since SquidgeWorld is an Ao3 clone where the user interface is concerned... It's actually pretty simple to make the script work for SquidgeWorld too.
If you use Tampermonkey to handle your custom scripts too, then it should be pretty easy to open the script in the editor. Open the Tampermonkey's dashboard, click the script in question, and voila. Edit page. At the top there should be a tab labeled "Settings". Go there.
Scroll down to a section called "Includes/Excludes" - this should already have the built in includes/excludes for the script listed there. Specifically for the script I linked above, you should see entries for "Original Matches" and "Original Excludes". They should all mention archiveofourown - you want to copy all these over to a notepad and replace archiveofourown with squidgeworld and then add them to their respective "User Matches" and "User Excludes" sections.
Once those are added and you've saved the changes, go check out a SquidgeWorld fanwork - such as Silence in the Night (part of a Buffy the Vampire fic series I have available on both Ao3 and Squidgeworld) - and you should see the floaty review box button, the last chapter button, and the first chapter button.
Pretty cool huh? And you should be able to do this for the majority of scripts used for Ao3. So long as Ao3 isn't directly referenced in the script code itself beyond the include/exclude/matches at the top of the script, there's no reason not to give it a try.

I’m usually not a New Year’s Resolution or goals person, but I thought I’d make one for writing.
Beat my 2023 word count.
Finish my current published WIPs.
Finish my current unpublished WIPs or make more progress.
Write one story for another fandom.
Improve my writing (not sure how to measure this).
Hype up my writer friends on tumblr.
Comment on as many fics as I can.
Read more on my computer so I can do the floaty review box thing and leave better reviews than simply indistinguishable Higgins noises.

hey I just wanted to say I totally understand you about the ao3 thing, it gets to me when I spend a lot of time on something and get barely any kudos. I haven't posted in a long while but if you ever want to give it another try, I think there are scripts you can use to hide stats! I haven't tried it myself but u might give this a try https://github.com/aceboxn/ao3-hide-stats
Oh wow I didn't realize there were scripts for ao3! (well aside from the floaty review box thing, it just never occurred to me)
I mean I guess??? I could at some point, but idk at the same time I feel like I'd be too tempted to turn it off and look bc dumb idiot brain wants constant validation.
Plus what would I even do? Reupload everything all at once and annoy tf outta my subscribers?? 😭😭😭 AAA
But thank you for this! I'll keep it in mind

This is kind of a vent post so feel free to scroll past it but like.
I have currently 18 chapters, any fics included, to comment. I am 18 chapters late, technically.
And like, when I read something ongoing, especially if it's written by a mutual, I always try to comment, and to do a detail comment thanks to the floaty review box. And this year, I managed to do it until may, I think ?
But after that, I watched the third season of HPI. And it was an absolute shit-show. The last minute of the last episode ruined everything. So now, I have all those emails in my inbox that I don't delete because I want to comment the fics but I just can't do it? Because the idea of reading something that is HPI related just completely blocks me. It drains me emotionally to just think about it. All the missed potential, everything they ruined.
But the thing is, for some reason, it also prevents me from commenting the other fics? Like, I have the exact same feelings toward it even though they're completely different fandoms?
I really hate this feeling. I know commenting is not an obligation, I know I shouldn't feel bad about it, I know all of that. But I still do. Because I love being on the receiving end of comments and I hate myself for not doing that for my friends and fellow writers. Even tho it's not my responsibility. So now, I just feel bad every time I open my inbox.
And the worst is, yesterday and today I did comment some fics. I did. I finally made a dent in the pile. But I still have so many left, and yeah... It's discouraging and it's entirely my fault for feeling responsible even tho I'm not. I hate it.

Ryan Reynolds' Career
Today's hot topic is.... guess who? Ryan Reynolds! (his career but who cares.)
Tumblr media
The charming, affable, and boyishly handsome Reynolds has made his way through everyone's hearts. His captivating personality and his witty humor never fails to amaze the crowd, be it teenagers or people old enough to be his grandmother.
HIS DEBUT ROLE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
At the young age of 15, Ryan made his debut as Billy Simpson in the Canadian teen soap opera, Hillside, in 1991. The show lasted till 1993. Along with that, his journey in Hollywood began from the movie Ordinary Magic in 1993. He played the 15-year-old Ganesh who was born and brought up in India. Hinduism and Mahatma Gandhi's teachings highly influenced his character in this movie.
(WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. EVEN WE'RE LOSING OUR SANITY OVER THIS!!!!!)
(Look at our lil' floatie-floatie boy <3333)
Tumblr media
Anywaaaaay.
Reynolds had a few supporting parts in films and TV shows. Because he no longer wanted to play an adolescent, he declined the role of Xander in Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003). (Terrible fate, we know.) Instead, he was cast in the ABC comedy Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place as medical student Berg (1998–2001).
His role in the comedy The In-Laws marked his entry into the world of high-budget entertainment. He had an appearance in The X-Files episode titled Syzygy. He also made an appearance as the letter 'A' in the A-Team, in the 4225th episode of the popular kids show Sesame Street.
(THIS IS OUR LITTLE ANGRY A-BOY.)
Tumblr media
Now the more exciting part,
HIS MOVIES!
When it comes to effortless charisma and wry wit, it's hard to top Canadian charmer Reynolds. But even though the Vancouver-born actor is mostly unchallenged in those categories, it took a while for him to take off as a bonafide movie star. After a decade of hit-or-miss comedies, Reynolds eventually hit the bullseye with 2016's Deadpool, marking the perfect use of his naughty humor and comic delivery.
Tumblr media
(Our top G Ryan as Deadpool *rock 'n' roll*)
Deadpool is regarded as one of the best superhero movies of all time and quickly became the highest earning R-Rated film ever, only beaten by Joker in 2019.
A few of his most adorable films include 'Definitely, Maybe' (2008), The Proposal (2009), The Change-Up (2011), and Just Friends (2005).
Tumblr media
He's got many spectacular action movies under his belt. A few of them include, The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) with top-rated co-star Samuel L. Jackson, 6 Underground (2019), Free Guy (2021), Red Notice (2021), and The Adam Project (2022).
Let's not forget his role as Harvey Kinkle (with the bad hair, ew, but he's cute so we'll take it.) in the movie Sabrina The Teenage Witch (1996).
Tumblr media
And then there are a few movies which weren't very well received by his audience. These include R.I.P.D. (2013), Amityville Horror (2005), Green Lantern (2011), and Turbo (2013).
Moving on....
AWARDS HE'S RECEIVED OVER THE YEARS.
Our gorgeous superstar Ryan has received many notable awards as his career progressed. The first ever award he received was in 2003, it was the 'Young Hollywood Award for Next Generation - Male'. Then came an award for his role in Green Lantern - 'People's Choice Award for Favorite Superhero' in 2012, even though this movie was met with conflicting reviews, Reynolds managed to win different hearts by doing what he always does. Turn his charm on. (We AREN'T complaining at all.) A huge number of awards followed his movie Deadpool, which was a major box office hit. One for Best Entertainer in a Comedy Movie, and another for Entertainer of The Year.
Tumblr media
Here's Ryan accepting the People's Icon Award at the People's Choice Awards 2022. (Look at his adorable smile, we all love him here at Ganesh Lovers' Community.)
Reynolds' has had a total of 60 nominations and 21 wins in his Hollywood career, which is actually quite a lot.
HIS PERSONAL LIFE
Childhood
Reynolds was raised in a Vancouver Irish Catholic home as the youngest of four boys. His parents were police officers and his mother worked in retail. Two of his brothers work in law enforcement, while a third is a member of the RCMP. From 1940 until 1944, his grandfather Chester Reynolds served as a legislator for Stettler, Alberta, as a member of the Social Credit Party.
Love Life
He was engaged to singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette from June 2004 to February 2007, when they called off their engagement.
Tumblr media

Shortly after, Reynolds started dating actress Scarlett Johansson, with whom he married on September 27, 2008, at a resort in Clayoquot Sound, close to Ucluelet, British Columbia. In December 2010, they divorced and filed for separation.
Tumblr media
Ryan with Scarlett.
He started dating Blake Lively, his Green Lantern co-star, in 2011, and the two got married on September 9, 2012.
Tumblr media

Children
Ryan and Blake have three daughters together: James (born in 2014), Inez (born in 2016), and Betty (born in 2020). Betty’s name was publicly revealed by a close friend, Taylor Swift in her song of the same name from the album Folklore.
Tumblr media

Personal Achievements
In 2008 and 2009, People magazine ranked Reynolds as one of the sexiest men alive. He was named the magazine's sexiest man alive in 2010.
Tumblr media
He was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2011, but the event was postponed since he couldn't make it. (Kinda depressing, TBH.) The day of his official induction was October 18, 2014.
But in December of 2016, Reynolds was honored with a star of his on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Tumblr media
(They're the cutest, seriously.)
Let's move on to....
HIS CHARITY AND ADVOCACY WORK
(This is kind of lengthy, bear with us.)
He's a humble and down-to-earth man, at least from what we've heard, and with the help of his super incredible wifey Blake, they make the power duo and set foot on Earth to save a few souls here and there. Here are a few of their contributions:
A half-million dollars were given to the Canadian nonprofit Water First Education & Training Inc. in March 2022 by Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
In Vancouver, Canada, Reynolds also appeared in campaign videos sporting his recognizable "ugly" red-and-green sweater. By January 2021, according to the charity, $640,000 had been raised as a result of his fundraising efforts.
In March 2021, Reynolds and Lively gave $250,000 to a Canadian organization that mentored Indigenous youngsters, Influence Mentoring.
Reynolds and his wife had also matched donations made to Covenant House Vancouver and Toronto up to a total of $250,000 in a remarkable gesture of generosity to help youngsters who are homeless, victims of trafficking, or in danger, back when COVID-19 had first struck.
Reynolds joined The Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2008 when he participated in Team Fox's New York City Marathon run. Reynolds ran the marathon in his father's memory, finishing in under four hours and raising more than $100,000 for Parkinson research.
And lastly,
HIS ALCOHOL COMPANY AVIATION GIN
As we see his posts on social media promoting his gin company:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's give you a brief history on the company and his role in it.
The goal of Aviation Gin was to develop a democratic gin blend with juniper in the background. It was formed in 2006 out of Portland, Oregon. a gin that is suitable for every cocktail. For the next ten years, it would remain mostly unknown.
Fast forward to 2018, when gin use was growing more rapidly than that of any other type of alcohol. This led to substantial changes in the sector, such as Reynolds buying a stake in the Aviation American Gin.  Reynolds is the creative director for the marketing campaign, and it is spectacularly successful (Aviation Gin is now the fastest-growing gin brand in America). How could it not? Reynold is a comic genius who conveys important messages about the quality of gin in the funniest, most approachable ways conceivable. Here's one of his advertisements for the company:
youtube
Hilarious! Are we right?!
Ah, sadly we have to end this splendid deep dive into our favorite floatie-boy Ryan Reynold's life here, but! We're not signing off without blessing your eyes with a few photos of his ;)

Your welcome.
Anyway, signing off, it's the dream team, Ganesh Lovers (get it?).
Adios till our next blog!

Tampermonkey floaty review box
Hello, does anyone actively use a Tampermonkey script that makes commenting on AO3 easier because there's a floaty review box on the page as you read? Can you send me a link to it to share out on this blog?
This blog has discussed it before, but it was the other mod that had knowledge of it and we've been out of touch. It's also been awhile and Tumblr search is terrible, so I figured I would crowdsource for more up-to-date information if possible.
Thank you in advance!

Note
have you seen the floaty comment review box post for ao3? it requires extensions (grease or tampermonkey), but now it works in firefox desktop and mobile (with some minor modifications for size) and it's very helpful for keeping track of long comments. lmk if you want a link to the post to rb!
I LOVE the floaty comment review box!! I haven't been able to make it work on mobile, but it was super easy to install on desktop for those who might be interested. It's linked in the initial Bingo Trial Run post but definitely worth boosting on it's own:
If anyone has strategies for composing comments as you read on mobile, I'm all ears. Promote your wise ways 🙏

Pouchie The Cat Alpha 0.4.5 ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY UPDATE!
February 21st marks one year since I first created the project file for Pouchie The Cat, the video game! It's been quite an interesting journey that I started, and it's not over yet! To the people who've been supporting me, especially my close friends, I thank you for your encouragement, your suggestions, and your overall wish to see me succeed with this project. I love you all!
Tumblr media
With all that being said, let's look at the update. As the alpha number implies, we're still not at the halfway point (Alpha 0.5 would mark the halfway point), meaning there's still work to be done in World 2. But just because there's work to be done doesn't mean you can't at least peek at what's in the works. This new update of Pouchie The Cat includes the introduction of a new world, with new mobs, some cutscenes, and more!
What's new for Alpha 0.4.5:
SAVE AND LOAD: The game now has a save and load feature where you should be able to save the game and load it from now on. No idea if the feature works for the browser version, so if it's not working, feel free to mention it in your review of the game
OPENING CUTSCENE AND IN-BETWEEN GAME DIALOG: Pouchie now has some cutscenes with and some dialog with a new character. This character, Sasha The Rabbit will provide some context as to Pouchie's mission and motivation to clear the levels and explore the world. Not necessary to enjoy the game, and you can speed through the dialog if you just want to play the levels.
HINT BOXES: Hint boxes have been added to some of the early levels for new players who are unfamiliar with 2D platformer mechanics. More may be added in the future.
NPCS: NPCs have been added for cutscenes and dialog scenes. Annie The Cat, and Sasha the Bunny. Also name-drop of a future foe, Grump The Pug.
WORLD 2: World 2 is officially available for players to explore, up to Level 4! World 2 takes place underground, making it easy for Pouchie to bump his head on cave ceilings, so watch out when jumping!
WORLD MENUS: There is now a World Menu for saving the game, as well as allowing you to go back and forth between World 1 and 2, but only if you've unlocked.
NEW MOBS: Added three new mobs with unique gameplay mechanics. Babas are bats that are drawn to you if you enter their bubble, but they'll stop chasing you if you run far enough away. Crys-Tortles are a creature with a hard shell that spiky crystals have grown onto. They can't be damaged, but they can fall off cliffs. Fun-Guy are sentient mushrooms that'll release spores upon death. These spores will not disappear, so be careful when setting one off!
Bugfixes:
Fixed issue where Boomer would constantly damage Pouchie, even after death, resulting in a looped death animation.
Fixed issue where the player's max health and starter lives didn't reset after turning off no-hit and one-life gamemodes.
Known issues:
There was feedback in the previous builds that gameplay was "too floaty" and "too robotic." I don't know if any of my changes have resolved this issue, but we'll see.
If Pouchie jumps into two spore patches at once, he loses two hearts instead of losing the one.
That's all the updates I have brought for the time being. In a way, it's a lot of things done, but there's a much more impressive battle ahead that I'll be working on for Alpha 0.5. Both figuratively AND literally, as the battle I face is designing and coding the boss battle for World 2. I already have a general idea of how I plan to make that boss look and function. No idea when I'll get it done, but I'll be sure to work out all the kinks before officially releasing that update. Another plan in the works, that'll probably be more on the easy side, would be to create sprites of Pouchie's overarching foe, and the head honcho of all the issues of his journey: Grump the Pug. Grump will be given some animations, and possibly even dialog to establish him as a villain.
These, and more are being thought out during this time. If you wish to keep up to date when the next big update is out, or wish to keep up with when I go live on Twitch, or just ask me some questions, feel free to join the discord! I'm thinking of some future plans to interact with people if there's a good enough community to talk to: https://discord.gg/Cxfzm55RgP
In the meantime, if you wish to know what you can do to help with production of the game, and have some money to burn, I'd appreciate some donations on my Linktree and StreamElements. It helps to have some spare change when you're working more or less solo on a game project.
Something else that I would greatly appreciate is if everyone with a newgrounds account could give a fair review of the game there, as it' more likely to be pushed to others if it receives enough initial attention.
That's all for now, and I don't have any date to give for the next update, as I genuinely don't know when I'll have everything I want for it done, and I would rather not give a date and then not deliver. But for now, feel free to play the game and give me your thoughts!
Until next time!
