Hmmmm... Let's go for main timeline, just aged up? 'Cause I can't see Donnie even looking during the Apocalypse.

That — That...

What?

He had to have heard that wrong. He must have. There's absolutely no way.

... Is there?

He turns around to watch you talk with S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. He blinks as you laugh at whatever the drone tells you. And he frowns as he tries to get back to his work as he said he would only for the thought to keep him away from it as it pings and pongs throughout his skull.

This can't wait. He has to revise the fashion plates before they're sent in for printing. There's no time.

But...

He grabs his phone and types a message he hopes he doesn't regret later only to sigh in relief when he gets a positive answer. He then pockets it and looks at you again.

And while he doesn't like admitting it, he has to pause to swallow down his heart while watching you dance with S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. He's compelled to smile as you laugh some more and he can't but wonder...

He shakes his head. He calls your name and watches you stop along with his drone as the words slam back into the forefront of his mind. He has no idea how to approach the subject, but...

"Did you mean that?"

If he follows the cues his youngest brother has left him with...

"Mean what?"

Then he should get the answers he seeks.

"You... love me?"

However, he can only hope it's in your smile. That it's in your steps that near him. Or that it's... in the soft kiss you give him that you then use to bring your foreheads together.

"Always."

Although there's no denying your words and the way it makes the world shift, just a little.

An illusion, for sure. There's no way it would actually move and he could notice. But for the first time, with the way he can feel his heart try to beat its way out of his plastron...

"I think I love you, too."

And with the way it makes you giggle and kiss his cheek as he wraps his arms around your waist...

He wants to believe it.

I just realized something.

12 Leo from what I remember in canon has cried like four times.

He cried when his father died the first time.

He cried when his father died the second time.

He cried during that nightmare where he'd watched his little brothers be brutally slaughtered.

And then he cried during the Mutant Apocalypse when the mutagen bomb was gonna go off and he had shoved his brothers away to safety.

This leads me to believe that 12 Leo isn't much of a crier. It probably takes a lot to make him cry and break down fully because he's either always bottling it up inside or he doesn't want to appear weak in front of his brothers. But that just makes him crying that much more impactful because seeing this strong and confident leader break down into tears is a heart shattering sight.

And I'm betting that because 12 Leo doesn't cry often his brothers get extremely protective and hostile whenever they see him in tears. Like I'm talking about full on "Who did it???? Who made you cry?!?!? TELL ME WHO DID IT SO I CAN BEAT THEIR ASS INTO NEXT YEAR-" kind of ordeal. Because if 12 Leo's crying then they know damn well that something is up and they'd be out for blood.

Day 1: Agere mood board based on my favourite Animal

It has been forever since I posted my artwork. But I had such an amazing collaboration with my sis, @mysticboombox and believe me... she did a stupendous job!

Some may remember Kalani and Leonardo as my pairing for ROTTMNT. She has changed and respectfully broke it off with Leo (trust me, he's getting a better gal) and is now Raphie's girl.

Backstory: After the attack from The Krang and everyone finally back into their somewhat daily lives, Kalani has constant nightmares of Raph being possessed by the Krang himself. After a particularly bad dream, Kalani rushes to Raph's room and sniffles as she doesn't have words to really express what had happened. Raph understppd and offeredherto stay which she climbed into bed and began to quietly cry in her boyfriend's arms.

Took a glance at Mikey's old site profile and kinda laser-focused on his fave book enough to doodle all this, lol. Just wanted to draw the turtle tots being silly and Splinter being best dad!

On the topic, I think Rise does a wonderful job of displaying the sensory needs of neurodiverse characters because they don't limit them to one extreme or the other; another reason why their portrayal is so wonderful.

Donnie probably shows the most examples of this range, for obvious reasons. He doesn't like unexpected stimuli—and that can be something as small as unexpected touch. He has a preference for his flavorless juice. His lab, from what I've been able to glean, appears to be lit mostly from the glow of his computer screens or his tech. Otherwise it's usually kept rather dark.

On the other hand, Donnie loves noise (as long as he's in control of it, of course). He blasts techno music until it's impossible to talk without shouting. He falls asleep to Shelldon's affirmations: also absolutely blaring.

As for Mikey, this one's a lot more speculative lolol. We see a lot of examples of him seeking out sensory throughout the series, the most memorable for me personally being when the boys are interrogating Warren Stone and he's just. Playing with absolutely everything on the playground, rapidly switching from one thing to the next. But for someone who loves runs around—and very much enjoys doing so—it's a bit surprising to me that he so willingly rides Raph's shell so much. I could see that being his safe space of sorts, for when things get too exciting and Mikey can feel it starting to overwhelm him. Just an area to take a breather.

It's wonderful to see both because it allows the characters to have sensory needs without it becoming a one-dimensional gag. It's no longer a trope, but rather an aspect of their identities. Yeah, Donnie not always reciprocating affection can be made funny. Yeah, Mikey not sitting still can be made funny. But the joke is never the character themselves because they focused on writing a complex, actual person; not the simplified, easily-digestible idea of a disability.
