double shot. {John Deacon} /SMUT\
Anon asked: Okay so I absolutely love your writing, AMD I'm an absolute thot, so I was wondering if you could potentially wrote something where the reading is a friends of the band, and one night when they're out at a party together the reader gets a confidence boost and tries to get a little "Freaky with Deacy"....if you catch my drift.
A/N: 3380 words. I’m hot for 1981 Montreal!Deaky, but what’s new. Pretend he’s single and that Roger’s green hair makes sense in the timeline. SMUT!! Unprotected sex and drunk sex. (also ignore the weak ending, no that’s no inuendo, i mean of the fic, but it’s 7am and i’ve been writing all night i just want this done).
“You look like an idiot.” You’re not even looking at Roger when you say it, eyes fixed firmly on the dance floor as you stirred the ice in your mostly empty glass.
“I think I look rather dashing.” Roger, ever the relentless narcissist, and unfortunately one of your closest friends, is also only paying you about fifty percent attention where he’s got his eye on some girl by the bar.
“Your hair’s green.” You try to flick your little, cardboard straw at him, but it misses, and snaps him from his own distraction to notice yours, after it lands on his shoulder.
“Well not on purpose.” Running his hands through his hair a little self consciously, he finally follows your gaze to one dancing bass player in the crowd, “you ever going to stop making mooney-eyes and just go and shag him?”
“Excuse you, Roger!” You splutter, finally tearing your gaze away from John to level a glare at former blonde beside you, embarrassment heating your cheeks. His smile sharpened at your obvious flusteredness, and he finishes his drink with far more confidence than he should rightly have in his cosmetic state.
“You think I spend all day staring at a wall, blatantly ignoring the way you eye-fuck him from side of stage?” Putting his glass down with a thump, Roger’s grin turns amused as his gaze slides to catch glimpses of John bopping his way over to the bar through the crowd. “Not that he’s any better.”
“What about you?” Despite how pleased his words made you, you were quick to turn the conversation around. “You going to make a move on whoever your poor target for tonight is?”
“You make me sound like I’m hunting these poor women,” he huffed, clearly indignant, “and anyway, it’s a totally different situation, it’s not like I’ve been pining over Stephanie for months.”
“You haven’t even talked to her, how do you know her name?” Glancing over at the woman by the bar, she keeps glancing over at the two of you, well, at Roger, and her drink is getting dangerously low; you know he’s getting close to making his move.
“I don’t, but she looks like a Stephanie,” he paused, his smile sliding to a smirk as he winks at the girl by the bar. You don’t look over to catch her reaction, but judging by the glint in Roger’s eye, it was a good one, “maybe a Michelle.”
“Also, it hasn’t been months, and it hasn’t been pining, I just...” And if your voice slipped into a little bit of a whine as you found yourself watching John by the bar, Roger, for once in his life, was kind enough not to comment on it.
“You just want to shag Alcatraz, I know.” Roger gave you a cheeky smile, which you scowled at. “Sorry, love, forgot you were hot for the short-haired look.” He snorted, though you didn’t deny it. “Listen, just put all of us out of our misery and,” he pauses for a minute, brow creasing as he stood from his chair, “I don’t know, something about basses and fucking, you get the idea.”
“You have such a way with words,” you grimace, sarcasm heavy in your voice, “at least get me a drink while you’re over there.” He rolls his eyes at your request, but agrees easily. “Make it two!” You call as an afterthought.
Of course part of you assumes that you’re never getting those drinks; the moment Roger’s within five feet of that woman at the bar, he’ll forget your very existence until he wakes up the next morning, and he’ll have zero regrets, at least regarding you. Not that you begrudge him for that, you knew him too well to expect anything else.
The music from the jukebox is playing loud enough over the sea of people that you can feel the beat in your bones, and as your earlier drink starts to set in, you let yourself sway in your seat to the music, contemplating getting a drink for yourself, though it turns out you don’t need to.
“I was told to deliver these to you.” Deaky’s grinning, carefully placing two drinks onto the table in front of you, keeping a third in his own hands. Your pleasant surprise at the sight of him turns to exasperation as you look to the bar and see Roger giving you a jaunty wave and a shiteating grin.
“Of course you were.” Your smile returns to John, and you pat the vacant seat beside you. “Come on, if you go back out there, you’ll end up spilling it all over yourself.” John flushes at that, casting a gaze at the crowd on the dance floor, before he looks back to you, his smile widening as he settled in beside you.
It had only been a few years since you’d joined the bands tour crew as an assistant stylist, though they liked to affectionately refer to you as their professional groupie. You took the nickname in stride, however, after all, the only things the main stylist ever gave you for them was a hairbrush and eyeliner, and you trusted the band well enough to brush their own hair.
Tours are messy and too close for comfort, you quickly learned, and after a few weeks of awkwardly leaning over them and pretending like they hadn’t been passed out and hungover more times than you can keep track of, you take your one job in stride and asked Freddie if you could just sit in his lap to put on his eyeliner and save you all some embarrassment.
“Of course, darling, I don’t bite,” There was a twinkle in his eye, “at least, not during business hours.” He finishes, but ultimately, he was mostly respectful, as they all were, Roger notwithstanding until after you kicked him in the shins and threatened to aim higher next time.
“I like your perfume.” John had always been very quiet whenever you were with him, so it came as a surprise when, halfway through applying his eyeliner, he pays you an unexpected compliment.
“Thank you,” you’re a little flustered, a little uncertain, you’d watched him perform for almost a month at this point and you’d developed maybe the teeniest crush on him, “I like your music.” Mentally you’re berating yourself, you actually have to take a moment to pause and frown over your own choice of words. He takes it in stride easily enough.
“I would hope so,” he starts, tone deceptively mild as his eyes flutter open to gauge your reaction, “otherwise this must be some form of cruel and unusual punishment.” And that’s enough to startle a laugh from you, the sound bringing a smile to his own lips as you lean back for a moment, and you feel his light tough on your waist where he’s steadying you.
As the months and tours and music videos go by, he quickly becomes your favourite (he’d always been your favourite, you were just less likely to admit it before) and he, much to your surprise, quickly begins to favour you too. Conversation comes easily, though he seems to prefer to talk when you’re applying his eyeliner, voice quiet, his hands resting on your thighs where you’ve got a leg either side of him where he’s sitting. Every so often when you’re buzzing about the space after you’re finished with him, he’ll shoot you a smile, or if you make a joke, more often than not you’ll hear his quiet laughter.
The fact that every time you watch him perform or even just dance, you wanted to bang him - how did that song go again? Oh right - all day long, that had just become an undercurrent of your life that you tried to ignore. He was your friend and you technically worked for him and- god damn it, it got harder and harder to keep coming up with excused not to make a move on him, especially when the others were so pointedly trying to get you together.
So maybe tonight, thanks to the drinks Roger bought you (double shot, the both of them, that cheeky bastard), and Deaky looking particularly good in that all blue outfit, was the night you finally made a move on the bopping bassist of Queen. Or, you consider as he’s got his hand around your wrist, tugging gently you towards the dance floor as you quickly finish your drink a while later, he might make a move on you. Actually, you don’t mind the sound of that.
The world turns blurry at the edges, a kaleidoscope of lights bouncing off the walls and dancers. Sometimes he’s holding you, by the hand, by the waist, always moving to the beat, always so careful, sometimes he’s twirling you and for one heart-stopping moment you feel like you’re flying, and distantly you know that what goes up must come down, but he catches you before you spin out too far, having never left solid ground to begin with. He doesn’t let you fall.
“I’ve got you.” He assures, hand on the small of your back. He’s so close, practically nose to nose, his smile so familiar yet surprisingly cheeky, though part of you suspects it’s due to the drinks, at least in part. So is the courage you gain for your next move, though.
You kiss him, in the middle of the dance floor, crushing your lips against his as you pull him in by his collar. When his grip on you tightens just a little and he kisses you back, you feel relief flood through you that you hadn’t realised you’d been waiting for. When he pulls back, he’s full on beaming at you. There’s a pause, a hesitation, an uncertainty, like maybe he wants to kiss you again, or pull you back to the dance floor, but then someone stumbles into you, almost spilling their on you, and Deaky pulls you back in time.
“Do you wanna get out of here?” You ask, as someone knocks into him from the dance floor, and it’s as if you suddenly remember how stuffy and crowded it is.
“I’d love to.” He agrees.
The taxi ride back to the hotel is giggly and sloppy, at one point he presses a kiss to your nose, and it sends you into a fit of giggles, which only serves to make him grin brighter.
“Was that not the right spot?” He asked, bright and faux innocent, and you’re trying to quell your laughter as he takes your face in his hands and plants a kiss on your forehead. You actually snort at that. “Warmer?” He asked with a grin, still holding your face. After a moment, he squishes your cheeks together and bursts out laughing. Once he drops his hands, you grin.
“No, I think-” and you cut yourself off by pressing your lips to his temple, before pulling back a little and humming, before going back in and pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth. His laughter dies down and he catches your face as you go to lean back, instead pulling you in for a proper, passionate kiss. He hums, pleased against your lips, pulling you practically into his lap in the back of the taxi, and you feel your body already humming with anticipation. In this moment, you’ve never wanted anything more than him.
With him it’s not rushed, but it’s passionate, and fun above all else. You’re both still tipsy; he’s grinning and humming something familiar as you help pull his shirt over his head, letting himself fall backwards onto the bed when he hits the edge of it, beckoning you to him. You straddle him where he’s laying back, and he takes his time to admire you, hands sliding beneath the fabric of your shirt, to ghost over your stomach and land at your hips. Leaning in, you press a kiss to his lips, your hands coming to meet his as you teasingly lick at his bottom lip before sitting back up and impatiently pull your own shirt over your head.
There’s that admiring look again, but something about it fills you with warmth, the look in his eyes like he’s blessed to see such a sight. His hands come up to rest at your waist, moving to the small of your back so he can guide you to him for another kiss. This time he wastes no time, and unclasps your bra with surprising ease, helping you out of it without breaking the kiss as it becomes more desperate. Your bare chest against his, the giddy teasing fades in to want, as one of his hands finds your hip, encouraging you wordlessly as you begin to grind against him. His other hand grazes up your side, nails scraping gently against your sensitive skin, eliciting a gasp, back arching at the touch. With you hovering above him, the hand at your side comes to cup one of your boobs, squeezing for a moment before he kisses the gentle swell of it, his lips trailing down until he’s sitting upright and pressing a kiss to your sternum.
Looking back up at you, his pupils are blown wide, and he kisses you with a ferocity you hadn’t anticipated. His mouth is hot when he presses kisses to the column of your throat, his hands on your thighs where you’ve got your legs wrapped around him, shifting and grinding in his lap, desperate for some sort of friction, or for the both of you to be wearing less pants.
“Pants.” You finally gasp out, scrambling from his lap and unbuckling your own jeans in a desperate hurry. “Pants off.” You clarify to his confusion.
“Good call.” He agrees, and he’s beaming again, as if he his heart isn’t racing and the sight of you, so desperate to get undressed and fuck him, doesn’t making him unbearably hard. You can’t help but be a little flustered by his smile, among other things. By the time you’ve gotten your pants and panties off, he’s got his jeans mostly off, he’s just struggling with one leg.
“You need help?” You ask, and he looks up, as if finally seeing you, and he actually blushes.
“A little.” He admits, and you tug off the jeans with ease. Standing over him with a triumphant smile, he looks you over like he’s trying to savour the moment; no-one’s ever looked at you quite like that before, like they were simultaneously in awe of and hungry for you. “Where were we?” He asks, voice low and surprisingly rough as you waste no time sitting in his lap.
“Right- here-” you punctuate each word with a hard kiss, reaching down between the two of you to where his cock was standing hard against his stomach. Gently you begin to pump your hand up and down the shaft of his cock, listening to him gasp and groan as he pressed kisses along your neck. You swipe your thumb over the head where it’s already leaking precum, and you shift as you too are already wet with anticipation and need.
“God, I want to fuck you,” your own voice comes out a low moan, and the moment the words leave your mouth, his hand takes yours, and you still. He’s looking at you now, and more than anything he wants you.
“Please.”
Gently, with his hands on your hips as a guide, you kneel on the bed, straddling him, and you lower yourself onto him. His cock slides in with ease, you’re practically dripping, and you let out a long, low moan, and he hums in response, smiling at the sight of you, your eyes closed and mouth open in quiet pleasure.
“God, you’re gorgeous.” He murmurs, admiring you as your pussy flutters around his cock buried deep inside of you. You stay like that for a long moment, just getting used to the feel of him inside you, but the moment he shifts, just a little, experimentally, your eyes flicker open and your lips stretch into a smirk as you look at him through your lashes. Slowly at first, you begin to grind, your hips rolling to meet his; he’s got a hand on your lower back to keep you steady, and the other is at your tits, tugging at one of your nipples as he sucks the other into his mouth. At that you whimper, arching your back as he bites gently, tugs a little harder, and the rhythm of your hips stutters against him for just a moment.
You lift his chin with one hand, his lips meeting yours in a messy, desperate kiss as you moan into his mouth, still rocking against him. It’s not enough, so with gentle hands you press against his chest guiding him to lay down on the bed trailing kisses down his neck and chest as you ride him. He’s got a firm grip on your ass, and when his hips snap up to meet yours you audibly gasp.
“Incredible,” he murmurs, and he leans up, pulling you in to meet him half way as you’re fucking him, “you’re incredible.” And your breathy panting turns to moans against his lips when he’s got one hand between the two of you, thumb on your clit. He’s almost teasingly gentle, and your frantic rhythm slows down a little to accommodate the new stimulation, and as rubs the sensitive nerves more firmly, curses come tumbling from your lips. This just seems to encourage him to move more insistently, and he shifts his hips to an angle to fuck you just a bit deeper and you actually cry out.
“Fuck- fu- plea- please fuck me.” You whimper, breathless and needy. He’s happy to oblige. When you climb off of him, you’re quick to replace his cock with your fingers as you lay back against the bed, need curling low and hot within you, and he watches for just a moment with a smirk.
“How long have you wanted this, darling?” He asks, already moving himself between your legs, which split easily for him.
“So long, so so long.” You admit, groaning as he takes your hand away and slides easily back into you. For just a moment he’s still, buried to the hilt inside of you, then he starts thrusting, teasingly slow at first.
“Good.” He murmurs, and though your eyes are closed, you can hear the smirk in his voice. He’s still holding your hand, and after a beat, he tugs at your wrist, pulling your hand to him, and your eyes flutter open to see him suck your slick digits clean.
“Oh god, oh fuck,” you moan, rolling your hips to meet his as your head falls back against the pillows, the image of him looking at you with nothing but want in his eyes as he sucks your own juice off your fingers now burned into your memory for you to get off to in your own time. He’s still holding your hand, fingers laced with yours as he presses it against the bed. Your legs come up to wrap around him as you feel yourself getting close, and you reach down with your free hand to toy with your clit.
Your panting turns to whimpers turn to crying out his name as you come, wrapped up in him and the feeling of ecstasy that washes through you, with him still deep inside of you. He fucks you through the aftershocks of your orgasm, and as you’re coming down, he bites back a long groan as he pulls out of you, his cum hitting your stomach and tits. He lets out a long, pleased sigh, collapsing beside you. There’s tissues on the bedside table which you clean yourself up with well enough, and as you’re turned away, throwing the tissues out, John presses a kiss between your shoulder blades.
He’s smiling when you roll over to face him, and kisses you back tenderly when you lean in.
“We should do this again some time.” You say with a half-smile, and he lays back against the bed, looking at you out of the corner of his eye.
“I think that can be arranged.”

Sooo thoughts on the episode(negativity sorry):
I’m going to try not to be bitter about everything but legit the only things that saved last nights episode was Jonerys and Gendrya. Everything else is canceled. There I said it.
Still salty that everything Daenerys has suffered and worked hard for is being undermined and given to a man who doesn't even want it. Daenerys has earned everything she’s ever had and for it to just be... given away...... is so insulting to me. We’ve watched her come over everything, abuse, slavery, sexual assault, beaten, mocked, become a striong powerful person who took her disadvantages and turned them into her advantage and for what? For someone to come along and say ‘Oh yeah, everything you’re working for is for naught’ ?? yuck.
Still salty that she’s risking her entire army, remaining dragons, resources and own life to save the North and they’re treating her like actual garbage. IDK what else she has to do for them, literally die I guess?? Maybe not even then would they appreciate her.
Still salty that she was painted as ‘unmerciful’ to the audience when she’s been plenty merciful in her life Sam just doesn't know it. Even Jon said, “I’ve executed men who disobeyed me-” as if every
Still annoyed that every single character s*nsa comes in contact with is dumb-ed down for her characters benefit i.e. (Arya - not as strong and wouldn’t have survived what she did. Jon - an idiot for saving the North. Dany - Mad Queen and foreign invader. Tyrion - no longer clever) I’m just tired of them tearing down every character she interacts with just to boost her up in some way. Even Jon and Arya’s reunion, something fans have been waiting for years, was about still her in the end.
Jon asking S*nsa if she has any faith in him at all made my heart hurt so much. I just want to hug him. He literally went south and gained allies and dragons and weapons and came back with the strongest person in all of westeros and he’s still being bitched at for it. Boy can’t catch a break.
S*nsa has every right under the sun to not trust Daenerys, but Daenerys also at the very least deserves some form of respect from her in my opinion. She’s risking everything for the North, her people.
Ned Umber being a child and being killed for plot purposes is messed up. As soon as she showed Daenerys an ounce of respect I knew he was a goner - should’ve assumed by his name though.
About the 8x02 promo:
*sigh* Not ready to deal with the fandom after s*nsa x dany scene. I hate that they’re doing to them what they did to s*nsa x arya in s7. it’s so frustrating and annoying ugh. why can’t women just work together why does there have to be a cat fight.
I’m already seeing people say “wow I just started liking her” referring to Daenerys because she is angry at Jaime lol. Daenerys has every right to be mad at Jaime, he literally helped cause the fall of her house, started the domino effect that ultimately caused her good sister, niece and nephew to be brutally murdered, and while you wanna accept it or not- did negatively effect her life. Don’t be mad at Daenerys for being mad at the man who killed her father. Basically what I’m getting is that Sam can and is right to be mad at Daenerys for executing his father but Daenerys can’t be remotely upset with Jaime for killing hers? I don’t understand that logic.
It was just a very rough messy episode for me and I personally did not like it. The only things that saved it were Jonerys make out session x flying the dragons and Gendrya flirting.
I can’t wait for this petty drama to be over so we can get to the actual problem - you know, the night king and the army of the dead.

Dragon Ball Z Abridged - Episode 9 Review
Consistently funny. The weak points do not drag this episode down.
Tumblr media
The Set Up begins with a great cold open. Piccolo is drop-dead unconscious on the ground, Gohan is desperately trying to wake him up, and Krillin is anxiously awaiting for Goku to show up. After all, he’s their friend who would never let them down right? Meanwhile... Goku is busy eating at Jadoshin's palace. Even as a departure from the original series, I like the idea that the two of them made up and are friends now. Jadoshin, however, has to remind Goku about the Saiyans. Goku then runs out in a panic.
[Title Sequence]
Piccolo isn't getting up and Nappa needs a new toy. He chooses Gohan seemingly at random from the two remaining, and floors him in one kick.
"Wooo! Not me!"
When Krillin isn't being the resident Milhouse, he's the rimshot comedian. The joy doesn't last for much longer though, as Gohan stays down.
Nappa is about to tear Krillin a new one, when the bald monk suddenly screams out that it's his turn. And for some glorious reason, this actually works on Nappa. This is some straight up Looney Tunes, "Duck Season, Fire!" type tomfoolery.
Vegeta does not handle Nappa's stupidity very well, and in his anger does a fourth wall break where he references a timestamp in the video. This is kind of clever and a bit of a break from the other fourth wall jokes that they've done so far, but I feel like it could lose its charm if it's done more than once. As for the timestamp itself, which is at 9:18 in the video... we'll get to that later.
Krillin decides to use the Destructo-Kienzan, and Vegeta shouts a warning to Nappa that it's a trick.
"But Vegeta... tricks are for kids."
The tense background music just completely stops here, but you can still hear the vibrations of the kienzan in the background. Great sound design. The long pause afterwards is also well timed, and Vegeta takes up the "fuck it, you wanna die, then die." mentality with Nappa. This skit is succinct, well paced and well editied.
Nappa receives a deep cut to the face for his troubles, as it just nearly takes his head off. Nappa laments his modeling career, and the scene cuts to a photoshopped rendition of Nappa on Vogue magazine. The bald, beautiful Saiyan, and his 10 tips on being a better lover!
This might have been a joke before its time, or perhaps the intention was different while writing this in 2009, but Nappa shows us all what a "nice guy" he was trying to be during all of this, and now decides "okay, full ultra-violence it is!" and fades Krillin with a white sparkly angel dust attack. I'm sure it has an actual cool sounding name (Like "Galaxy Breaker" or something) but I'm going to keep calling it the white sparkly angel dust attack. The owned counter ticks up to 8 here, but it doesn't feel deserved.
Piccolo jumps up with an "I'm back" and shoots Nappa... in the back. He sees what you did there. Just as Piccolo and Nappa are about to throw down, Gohan appears out of nowhere and roundhouse kicks him through a boulder. More indication that Gohan has some incredible hidden power inside of him. This surprises Piccolo, and Gohan is initially apologetic, but Piccolo begs for him to stay angry before Nappa just as quickly hops back to his feet.
It turns out Gohan hit Nappa so hard that he turned Italian. Seems a little out of left field, but why not. The "I'm a firing my laser" reference is perhaps the most dated thing I've seen since Episode 1. Would this even count as a meme? Wasn't "Firin Mah Laser" something that came out before the word meme even became popular as a way of describing internet fads, jokes, templates and trends? Back when Demotivational Posters and I Can Haz Cheeseburger ruled the internet? Truthfully, I loved this joke when it came out, but now all it does is remind me of the proto-internet days. And part of me feels weird for being nostalgic about that, because I just know someone in their 30's is going to read this and roll their eyes saying "Oh God, I'm getting old", in much the same way I'll feel horrified when people start to become nostalgic for Fortnite in the next 10 or 20 years.
Back to the episode, Piccolo's sacrifice happens right about here, and the scene does a good job of pointing out a plot contrivance in the source material. Piccolo could have just grabbed Gohan and moved out of the way. Though the scene plays up the amount of time Piccolo had to work with, there was still nothing stopping him from just grabbing him and chucking him like a bag of potatoes out of the way, even in the original. However, if Piccolo doesn't die, there's no real reason to go to Namek. What I think might be a more practical reason is that, this is a turning point for Piccolo as a character where he starts thinking emotionally. It's no real secret across both the canon and the abridged material that Piccolo is actually a pretty decent parent. So this right here is the idea of Piccolo more or less abandoning rational thought and considered only protecting Gohan. That contrasts a little with the ruthless, methodical, cunning, intelligent character he's been shown to be, just to throw that all away to save him, but the contrivance definitely becomes less egregious when you consider these factors.
However you want to address it, then end result is that Piccolo sacrifices himself to protect Gohan. In the original this is capped off with Piccolo comparing Gohan to his son, which is what Gohan begins to explain before Piccolo calls him a nerd. In this series however, Piccolo laments one final time:
"Why... didn't you... DODGE!!!"
Bleh. And with Piccolo's death, Kami is soon to follow. He explains the Namekian Dragon Balls to Mr Popo, and the long (very long) journey that must be undertook in order to revive everyone, but Mr Popo outright refuses and simply reminds Kami of the pecking order. Kami dies, and thus the Dragon Balls become inert.
Back at the battlefield, Vegeta was busy reading an issue of that very same Vogue magazine with Nappa on the cover and thus didn't see him kill Piccolo, like a mother three sangria's deep at her kid's soccer practice.
I've never much cared for Gohan's exasperated expletives in this or any scene in DBZA. This one in particular doesn't sit well with me simply because they went to the effort of being purposefully verbose but then still chose to use the word "condom" over "contraceptive" - A condom is made of latex, whereas a contraceptive is any kind of device at all that prevents pregnancy. As an example, some of the first contraceptives in history were made from linen and animal intestines, while the condom itself wasn't invented until 1855. Gohan specifically saying he's going to use Nappa's intestines as a condom serves the same purpose either way, but “contraceptive” would’ve been more technically accurate, in a bit of dialogue that is purposefully trying to be technically accurate. I wouldn't be picking on the semantics so much if that weren't the express purpose of this entire scene. Also it has more syllables and therefore sounds more smarterer.
Nappa gives this scene the backhand and the "bitch please" it deserves and we're done with that.
"Everyone important to you is dead." "Hey I'm still alive--" "EVERYONE important." "...Damn it."
See, this is where the Krillin Owned count should have gone up.
After Nappa doesn't smash, Goku appears on the battlefield. His reaction to showing up too late and everyone being dead is uncharacteristically deadpan, and it's hilarious. He asks where Chiaotzu is, and Krillin gives him the Achmed the Dead Terrorist explanation. Over there, over there, and up there. I'm not actually sure if this episode predates Jeff Dunham or not, but I enjoy both, both used the same joke at least once, and both make me laugh so I'm drawing the comparison anyways.
Goku asks why everyone is dead and Nappa immediately and without hesitation calls dibs. This leads into one of most famous and iconic scenes, if only for meme reasons, in all of DBZ.
"Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?" "It's... 1006." "Wha-- Really?" "Yeah. Kick his ass, Nappa!"
Not gonna lie, this genuinely made me burst into laughter the first time I saw it. I don't know if it was just shock value or what, but it doesn't have the same effect now that I know it's coming every time I rewatch this episode. I just love the idea of the scouter being upside-down and Vegeta not questioning it. An even better headcanon is that the scouter was never upside-down, Vegeta was just getting tired of Nappa's bullshit and just decided to send him into an ass-kicking anyways.
We're treated to a solid 15 seconds of Nappa getting completely curbstomped while the various characters look on in shock and awe, until Nappa gets dumped at Vegeta's feet.
It's also here that Vegeta finally learns that Piccolo's life is directly intertwined with the Dragon Balls. I believe this was already established in the original series, but no such conversation ever occurred here. Vegeta has quite simply lost his chance at immortality and it’s all because of Nappa.
I actually wonder how an immortal Saiyan would work. They receive a Zenkai boost, which makes them stronger when they almost die, but if you can't ever die, you can't ever “almost” die either, so you wouldn't get the Zenkai boost and your power wouldn't increase that way. Then again, most expectations of logic or consistency within Dragon Ball are pretty much always doomed.
Speaking of doomed, remember that timestamp at 9:18 that Vegeta referenced earlier? Because Vegeta certainly does, and with both the camel’s and Nappa's back having officially been broken, Nappa is sent to the shadow realm in a blinding flash of light and a massive explosion.
Vegeta's smirk is all we needed to close out this episode. There is no stinger.
Conclusion
Really good episode, actually. I wouldn't consider it as strong as Episode 7, but it definitely holds the same energy throughout. There are more high quality comedic moments in this episode than I could count on both hands. At worst some of the dialogue was uninteresting, pointless or overproduced, but the average pace of this episode rests rather highly compared to its valleys.
Microphone quality and sound mixing on some pieces of dialogue is still meh. Krillin's first line in this episode peaks the audio or something similar, because it takes me out for a hot second just because it's so sudden and emphatic.
We also see a slight evolution in the dynamic between Vegeta and Nappa which keeps things fresh. This is becoming less of a deadpan snarker and over the top clown, treads more into the ticking time bomb territory which is great for slowly building tension, and not unjustly as it has a satisfying payoff.
Plot holes in the original are addressed and lampooned here, creative jokes such as the Vogue Nappa and “1006″ are present and accounted for, and on the whole there's a lot of very on the mark humor, and only some of it is overdone. The story for this episode also holds significant weight and momentum, and it all blends together quite well with an above-average script and some great visual and audio edits.
Score: 77

DIMENSION OF SELF: SPIRITUAL
Inner Soul
- “The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.” —Norman Vincent Peale
We all know that when we talks about the person it pertains to its physical aspect where we see the person images, growth, maturation etc. and also in physiological that determines the characteristics and behavior of a person. But when we look for spirituality it is a wide topic or discussion because some misconception about spirituality is that religion, belief and faith are on focused on spiritual concept but its not. Here in Inner Soul, we may define the mind-body-spirit connection, personal life journey, even God and culture, nature etc. Spirituality extends the meaning and purpose of the reality world and life, this may be open to the different kinds of perspective that we always seen in the world either philosophical or cultural and upon observing phenomena and experiences we always stands the basis of world living. Second, people connectivity and to aspect of their existence. Here we pursuit our interaction to our community, society, people and our self and with that we can emphasize that the meaning of spirituality is relational and even we can put it to our school and religion to nature that kind of things. Third, transcendence and sacred here the inner peace is implemented to our self. It elaborates the universe capability to force us to know that there is life after our death and despite of problems arises we still have life fulfillment and develop acceptance. The Religiosity came to this spiritual perspective where it is a belief or practice that has been associated by tradition and the basis of agreement of this is what to believe and practice. It is a form of a particular church where we chant doxologies, prayer and even worship. It is important to know the value of our spiritual self in the sense that our inner soul has a positivity to apply a good life in terms of health well-being and life satisfaction. It also related to God inline with thoughts, words and spiritual beliefs that may surpass the activities of spiritual well-being, it allows us to boost our self-acceptance and see the real meaning of life.
In my personal experience, I am a born again christian and in my childhood days I am with my church mates and I look for the meaning of spirituality through prayers, devotion and even preaching. But now when I attain this age and generation, there's a lot meaning attached on spiritual and that's why I have a lack of thoughts and words when it comes to spiritual topic because my only know is it is all about my faith, belief and God. I cannot deny that the practices that we establish within the church is quite unusual in terms of many explanation that's been tackled in this dimension of self. Also, meditation which is inner peace that simplify my ability to calm and less the stress. Finals week and workloads came to me, I need to calm myself and accomplish every tasks by resting 1 hour after achieving one. It's quite hard for me because I feel exhausted and I always want to work quietly and with that my spirit-mind-body connection extends. I listen to music that I am comfortable and allowing myself to have limitations by doing priority things therefore the assurance of saving time and manage my time is been there. As an application, I just want to have a life full of positive thinking and fulfillment. I know that sometimes I face different challenges that cause me to release a stress but I help myself to cope it by controlling it and never play a victim of myself. As long as I lifted what I do there's a possibility that those distraction will be nothing at all.
Connections with Nature
- “Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” —Henry David Thoreau
Nature surrounds us but because of technological advancement, we are lacking of support our environmental life. We all know that respecting nature is like respecting the life of animals. In some countries like India, they avoid eating a certain animal that belongs to nature because of religious orientation. Also, some religious mantra practice taking care of nature because they believe that if they destroy and neglect their responsibility as a care taker the Gods that been distinguish in a particular things we’ve seen nature would get mad and result negative consequences. In reality, we need to acknowledge the environmental resources found in nature to avoid scarcity and we need to advocate different types of innocuous practices to achieve the green life here in Earth. In 21st century, we heard different kinds of news about environmental issues and as a human being we need to take initiate action to sustain the development and life of our nature, by simply committed to do duties such as manage our own waste, saving energy and avoid littering plastic bottles everywhere. Affinity with Nature means we designated that as a human being we are attach to the life of nature. It’s like “WE ARE ONE” we are the one to protect the nature whatever it takes and we commit our responsibility to protect our surrounding because that is a gift from God we are lucky to be interact with our nature. Ecopsychology shares a lot of affinity that involves us to nature which means we have a potential to direct to our nature because some of us it brings healing and peace. We acquire our self to observe and take actions to nature, we have that kind of parental behavior where we acknowledge the importance of our beliefs in nature where we process and know that we allotted our effort to advocate what is right for our nature and there’s a lot of examples of that even it is simple, you still want to help and revive the life of nature.
I like the topic when I've attended a seminar that talks about environment or nature and relationship of nature to us. I realize that we are the protectors of our nature therefore we need to preserve it whatever it takes and on some point it gives us a peace and calmness and it is not because of their color which is green but because we attached to the life of nature also. I want to help the environmentalist organization to advocate the primarily strategies and plan to sustain the life of our nature because it is depends on us if we want too, but always remember that nature is our resources too and as a human being we should not only concern to it but we also doing the best for nature. The young generations need to seize this kind of issues because there are the future advocates and leaders of society we need to stand and teach them properly to assured that the world would be a better place again.
Discovering Life’s Meaning
- "Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer." - Joseph Campbell
Life is one of the greatest experience and gift from us and with having this, human being is been known as adventurous person because life is a matter of choice, life is determines whether the satisfaction follows moral and ethical perspective and doing what is the best for us because we don't wanna waste it to negative perspective that we live in sometimes and going in some difficulty process. We all know that discovering what really is our desire will undergo in planning and taking a right path to achieving what is better for us. Some people do not know the satisfaction because they do not aware to themselves and not practicing what really it is they are not aware to the purpose of life. We need to foster healthy relationship to our self, peer groups, family members and achieve greater heights of our life because personal journey is always our key takeaways. Well-being pertains to inner side of our personal esteem, understanding and intrinsic in nature it is simply about better identity towards our self or physical being. Life satisfaction obviously determines the contentment of what is going on to our life and how we make up our life conditions better or worst. If this two are regulated present to our life, everything will follow and happiness will gonna fall to our life. It is important that consequences is equal to happiness because if we refer it to the quality of life everything will be satisfied and fulfilled to their life.
-  I've been to the up's and down's of my life and its really hard to fight and argue with it because basically I just want to be happy and nothing else. But when we filled our personal journey and know the value of  life, we are not just happy, we are also contented and satisfied. Many people want to achieve something in life and that is not easy to get you will get through a lots of holes, disappointment, struggles, problems, challenges and you can give up whatever you want but remembering those moments you fail and it happens again you will know the sacrifice and determination that you showcase and put in to that to accomplish and prove something. There is no white flag in our life, it will depends on us if we will continue or not. To attain the possible life satisfaction in life just look back to the past and see the moments that you’ve already accomplish and give credit to that because that will be your motivation and inspiration to continue and accomplish it. Most importantly, always take rest it is important to take time and then continue your life’s journey. Do not waste opportunities in life because that is your advantage to improve more.

_________________________
When Peter Parker started being apart of your life, his timing couldn't have been better. As Spider-Man, he made you want to save the world and gave you the confidence you didn't know you lacked. Even when you screwed up as S/N, he stood firmly by your side. As Peter, he gave you something to look forward to at school. He made all of your anxiety disappear with one mischievous smirk. He made you feel something special inside that you simply couldn't describe.
It's been exactly one month since you talked to him that day on the roof. Ever since then, life has gotten dull, like a pencil that you lost the sharpener to so you try to make the best of it.
He tried to talk to you so many times, but never in person. You can't find the courage to talk to him in person, either. He sent you pages and pages of text messages containing apologies. Some are just a few words and others are paragraphs long. You haven't replied to any of them. You don't have the courage to do that, either. Every time the thought of Peter returns to you, you can feel your heart break a little more. Maybe it hurts so much because for the longest time, he was the one good thing in your life. Maybe it's because he broke a long held promise.
"Spidey?" You asked one day as you swung your legs back and forth at the edge of the roof.
"What's up?" He turned to face you, head tilted to the side slightly.
"I want to make a promise. We can't hide anything from each other anymore."
Spider-Man stared at you for a few seconds, then shrugged. "Okay! Well, my name is -"
"No, no! That's the only thing that we should hide. I meant anything other than our identities. You know, you don't have to worry about what I'll think if you're honest. That's the only reason why I got mad when you finally told me why you weren't coming every day." You rubbed your arm and frowned.
"Wait, so you don't actually hate Mr. Stark?" He sounded surprised.
"I mean, the guy didn't do anything to me or you. I might heavily disapprove of the guy, but I don't hate him, no."
"...You're right. We should be honest with each other. But what if one of us finds out the other's identity? Then that kind of messes everything up."
You thought about this for a while, trying to come up with a solution. "Tell the other person. I think the other would figure it out eventually. I mean, you're smart as hell and I'm pretty okay too. So might as well tell them, right?"
"Well, yeah, but what about the secret identity thing?"
"If one already knows, then there's no point in upholding that anymore. The only purpose of not telling each other who we are is to keep things simple," you smile under your mask and shrug. "It's okay, you're probably someone I don't even know. But we have to keep each other's secret if that ever happens. We'll figure out the rest when we get there."
"Okay. Promise to keep the secret and to tell each other everything," Spider-Man nodded. You held your pinky out to secure the promise. Chuckling, he wrapped his pinky around yours.
Only then did you nod back. "Promise."
A tear slips out of your eye, glistening in the fluorescent lights of the Chemistry classroom. Come on, you can't cry in the middle of a Chemistry test. You quickly wipe it away and write faster, teeth gritted in determination. How did it get to the point that you can't even go through the day without remembering Peter? For a second, you glance at Peter only to see that he's been staring for a long time now. Shit, he caught you. Your eyes momentarily meet. In that fraction of a second, it feels as though you saw through to his internal torment. A heavy weight sets on your heart, one that doesn't let go even when you look away to get back to writing.
Towards the end of class, your teacher stands up and starts announcing some kind of project. You're hardly listening as you stare at your shoes. Maybe you could forgive him and just forget about this whole thing. Then you could just hug him and...and...
You think you might start crying again, but you bite your tongue as hard as you can without making yourself bleed. You feel the familiar strain on your forehead as you do your very best to not let your classmates see your tears. That would be an embarrassing situation to explain to your teacher.
No, of course you can't forgive him that easily. You've told Peter how much you hate dishonesty. But he tossed that right out of the fricking window, knowing how you'd feel. What a prick.
"Hey, don't look at each other yet. Since it's a short project that shouldn't take you longer than a few days, you'll just be working with the person next to you." Groans and mumbles fill the room, but your teacher isn't having any of it. You hear people near you cuss under their breath.
Whatever, another project shouldn't be that big of a -
Your train of thought stops immediately when you realize who the person beside you is. Oh hell no. No no no no. What is this, some kind of movie? This doesn't actually happen in real life, right? There is absolutely no way this is real.
He catches your gaze. In your case, this does happen in real life. It's not so weird when you remember that you live in a world where the Avengers, like, exist. You try to sound as professional as you can when you speak to him. If you ever make it big as a superhero, you're sure you'll have to be great at that skill around people you're not necessarily on good terms with. "Uh, okay. So I can get books from the library to use as some of our references. Or the internet. That works, too. And like, we need a plan. Also, this is obviously not going to get done at school, so um..."
You mentally curse a little for being so awkward. It was all structured and nice in your head, and then it came out the way it always does. So much for professionalism.
Peter's listening intently. "I could come over," he says eagerly. You look at him, silent with your eyes narrowed. "Uh, if you want, that is. You don't have to do anything. I was just suggesting it...even though it didn't really sound like a suggestion. I just thought it would be ideal, 'cause you live closer to school than I do and..."
You stare hopelessly, watching him gradually get more and more tense. He's so damn cute. The look in his eyes is just as you remember from that one day in Chemistry. It feels like it was just yesterday. It's the unmistakable look of shy adoration that's so unique to him. You wonder how he can still be like that when you can't even bring yourself to smile anymore. It looks like nothing can take away his excited nature.
"Peter," you say softly to get him to calm down. You haven't said his name out loud in a long time. Even when you talked to Iris about him and shared your issues, you never referred to him by name.
He stops immediately, his cheeks starting to redden in realization of his rambling. "Y-Yeah, I know I should shut up."
"That's not what I was going to say. I was just going to tell you to come over today. Uh, maybe not right after school."
"Oh, okay," Peter says, sounding a little breathless. Seeing him like this takes your breath away, too. "I'm busy after school too."
"I know." You look away, lost in your thoughts once again.
After school, you do your best to clean up your room. You stuff the clothes on the floor into a laundry basket and toss stray papers into your recycling bin. Once your bed is made and your room looks better, you sigh. Your eyes float up to the suit on your shelf, neatly folded. It's dusty and the equipment needs to be updated, but you don't even think about touching it. You look away before you can get any ideas. You know that deep inside, you miss that part of your life. You just want to kick ass and leap around trying to be as cool, like some of the bigger superheroes.
You sit on your bed and do your other homework as you wait. The hours tick by, one by one. You even start planning out the project, sketching out all the details so that the only thing that needs to be done is the actual work. You clean up your room some more, starting to get a little bored. You comb your hair and tie it back. At six-thirty, you start thinking he might have stood you up. Maybe he got busy being Spider-Man. Not that you're upset at him for that. You know that the job gets busy sometimes. You pick up your phone to call him, but then set it back down before you do.
At eight, you're sure he's not going to show up. You sigh and sit on your floor. What if something had happened to him? Maybe he needs your help, and all you need to do is call him. Guilt twists in your stomach. You turn to look at your bookshelf and the many books you've collected over the years, telling yourself that everything is okay. A new one about spiders sits on the edge of the shelf, its receipt tucked into the cover.
You turn back to your window and yelp a little. There, sitting in your window in his suit with a slightly bent churro in hand, is Peter. He always freaks you out when he sneaks up on you like that. He hasn't even changed out of his suit, but at least he brought his school bag.
"Sorry for being...late..." He pants, holding out the churro to you like a rose. "Thought I'd...grab something along the way." He clutches his side in pain.
You stand up and rush over to him, frowning. Grabbing the churro and his bag, you set them aside. "What happened? Did you get hurt?" You help him in, worried.
"Oh, uh, it's nothing, Y/N," he reassures in a way that only has the opposite effect. He slides off his mask to reveal scrapes and bruises on his face. There's a little smile on his face, much to your confusion.
"Peter, what the hell did you do?" You make him sit down on your bed, bringing your hands to his face. When you do this, his breath hitches. As your thumb skims over his cheek gently, he winces. "Sorry," you say quickly, frowning deeply.
"Hey, you should see the other guy! I had to knock him out for the police to get him. Crazy! I hope I didn't injure him that bad though...do you know if knocking people out hurts them a lot?"
"I don't know anything about medicine, Spidey! And who cares about him, look at yourself!" In your panicked state, your nickname for him slips out. You only realize this after you've said it.
"It's okay," he says as if everything really is okay. How is this okay? He's so calm, it's kind of scaring you. There's a distant look in his eyes, like he's not really completely aware of his situation.
"What is wrong with you? Why are you not freaking out about this? Are you drunk or something?" You exclaim, trying to snap him out of it.
Peter blinks. "No! I'm fine, really. It gets worse than this sometimes, so I don't know why-"
"It gets worse?" Your eyes widen, wondering why he suddenly can't handle a few purse snatchers. He shrugs indifferently. "Okay, uh...I-I'll get ice or something. Dude, why are you here? I don't even know where the band-aids are in my own house!"
"The project," Peter says simply. You don't like him like this. You just wish he'd make a joke or something so at least you know he's being normal. Come on, Peter!
"The project." You're trying not to get pissed off at his utter disregard for himself. "The project? The goddamn project? You go and do this to yourself, and the only thing on your mind is a stupid Chem project?"
"Uh...yeah...?"
Your eyebrows draw together. He's starting to make you feel like crying. "Peter, please. Tell me what's wrong. You're seriously freaking me out. Are you okay?" You ask the last question with more emphasis this time, tilting his chin up to make him look you in the eyes. His normally clear dark eyes are bloodshot, and there are purplish bags under them.
A beat passes before he responds. "No."
You look at him for a long time, trying to figure him out. His hair is a sweaty mess, and...has he been crying? You swallow, doing something you never thought you'd get to do again
You lean over and wrap your arms around him. "Ow, ow, not there," he says gently, and you quickly move your arms. He's warm, but that might just be because he was just leaping around buildings for the past few hours.
He rests his forehead on your shoulder. With your other hand, you smooth the hair out of his face. God, he looks awful. How did he manage to get himself beaten up this bad? Millions of questions form in your head, none of which you know the answer to.
You know he's crying when he starts shaking. Your shirt is going to get soaked, but you don't care. You hold him a little tighter. "You can tell me anything," you remind him quietly, but your voice breaks at the end.
"I miss you, Y/N." The way he says it, it shatters you completely. His voice is raw and rough, full of so much emotion that you weren't prepared for. Your lip trembles slightly and threatening tears fill your eyes.
"I-I can't be Spider-Man. Not if you're not there with me, Y/N, I just can't. I need to hear your voice through my suit, because I can't focus on anything anymore. I can't fight without you." Your throat tightens, knowing that your situation hasn't really been much better. You quit being a hero that day because you knew you couldn't keep doing it on your own. And it's been killing you since.
All of your previous hatred for Peter disappears like nothing. You can't even bring yourself to be angry at him anymore. You don't care about what he did. All you can see is how hurt he is now, and how he needs your help. You close your eyes and let yourself cry as his voice continues
"I never wanted to hurt you. When I found out that you were S/N, I got scared. I thought you wouldn't like me if I was more than regular Peter Parker to you. But I was stupid to think I could make it work. I know I broke our promise, and I'm so sorry for that." You stare out your window, tears streaming freely. You should've been there out with him. All of the emotion you bottled up for a month comes pouring out in a rushing torrent. You somehow kept it all together for an entire month. You avoided him whenever you could, you ignored his texts and calls. You did everything you could, and it tore you apart inside to do it all. Only now are you feeling the pain you pushed away then, deep in your heart.
"Please look at me." You look at him, and he lifts his head to face you. Gently, you set a hand on his cheek.
"You don't have to say sorry anymore, Peter. I forgive you. I forgive you." You rest your forehead against his, trying to calm down so you can stop crying.
He finally wipes his tears away with the sleeve of his suit and does the same for you before looking into your eyes. It's only now that you realize how close you are to him. "I-I love you, Y/N. I always have, I just didn't know until now." He whispers, leaning in slightly.
You close your eyes and kiss him, gentle and sweet and everything you expected. You've never kissed anyone before Peter, so you're going entirely by instinct. His arm reaches around your waist and tugs you closer. His other hand rests on your cheek, bringing warmth to you. The butterflies in your stomach intensely flutter, and you let it all consume you for a few minutes. You place one hand on the back of his neck to gently push him closer to you.
When you pull away, it's only for air. You breathe heavily, not knowing whether what just happened was real or if you were just imagining it all. You'd always read about kisses like these in novels, but you didn't know if it really existed. It seemed everything was a fantasy with Peter Parker. Old mistakes forgotten, you give him a shy smile. "I love you and that churro," you murmur, and for the first time in forever, you hear his beautiful laugh. This makes you inexplicably happy, just to see some of his sunshine poke through.
"Speaking of which, I went through a lot for that churro," Peter says. You grin and grab it to take a bite out of it in appreciation. But before you can, Peter plucks it out of your hand and eats nearly a mouthful of it.
"Now it's only half a churro!" You laugh and grab his hand to eat a bit of it before standing up. "One sec, I'll be right back."
You race downstairs, ignoring your parents' hellos and opening the freezer to grab all the frozen things you can get. They give you a strange look from across the room. Quickly, you try to think of an excuse before you drop something. "I'm, uh...hungry."
"So you're eating frozen peas?" Your dad questions, eyebrows raised in mild concern and disbelief.
"Yep," you grin nervously and sprint back up to your room before he can ask anything else. Peter sees you enter with a load of frozen things to serve as ice packs, laughing.
An hour later, you have Peter mostly well taken care of. With his guiding, you ice the bruises properly. He showers, coming out smelling like your strawberry body wash. You consider buying another bottle for him just so you can smell it when you hug him. You both sit on the bed and finish the project without wasting time, thanks to your planning. "We still have three days to do this whole thing," you remind as you add the finishing touches.
"Yeah, and that's three days that we can spend together. Under the excuse of the project, of course." He gives a mischievous smile that's so contagious that you're smiling back.
"Hm...I approve of this idea."
You don't talk again until the project is finished, and by then, it's late. "Are you sure May won't mind you staying until, like, midnight?"
"Yeah, yeah. I told her where I am, so it's all good."
He sits against your pillows, and you rest your head on his chest. You stretch your legs out on the bed. "You know," he begins. You glance up at him to signal that he has your attention. "You thought I was ripped, but I'm nothing compared to you."
"Whoa, I did not say you were ripped! I mean, you are, but that's besides the point. And thank you! I try."
Peter laughs. "Seriously though, do you work out or something? What gym do you go to?" It takes a moment for you to realize he's teasing you. You shove him slightly, trying not to smile.
"Screw you."
"I mean, that would be great, but in case you forgot, we're just fifteen. Maybe wait a while before we get that stage-"
"Oh my god. Screw you!"
"I told you, we should think about things like that before-"
"Ahh! Stop! My ears are bleeding!" You cover your ears and giggle as he gives you a big grin.
"Y/N?" Peter says after a bit of silence.
"Mhm?" You nestle your head into his neck as he loosely wraps his arm around you.
"You're going to be S/N with me now, right? Like, you'll fight crime again?" He sounds hopeful.
"Of course I will."
"Really? And you'll talk to Mr. Stark, too?"
"Okay, don't push your luck there. But I'll think about it, if it makes you happy."
"Thank you, Y/N." He looks into your E/C eyes, and in that moment, you know. Queens needs you, and Peter needs you even more. Everything is complicated, but for once, you don't hate it. Simple is starting to look a little boring with someone like Peter Parker in your life.

Message for the Gifted Pt 4/Finale: Most Kings, Envy, & The Purpose of Pain
In honor of #HOV50, I’m re-posting a blog I wrote in 2013. This post was 2 months after I 1st visited LA & knew I had to move here; 1 month after I wrote the post best known for its publication in the Amazon Bestseller “2 Billion Under 20: How Millennials Are Breaking Down Barriers & Changing The World.” The “Message for the Gifted” series was inspired! It’s one I re-read from time to time when I’m feeling down & need a boost. If you’re reading this, I hope it adds value to your journey in some way. Happy 50th Jay-Z!
Most Kings/Why I Love You (Another Jay-Z Reference)***
These are the titles of 2 Jay-Z songs expressing cautionary tales of the demise of leaders. Jay-Z isn't just a rapper, he's a leader. He's a mogul on his way to becoming a billionaire. He was raised in the projects of Brooklyn, NY & bootstrapped his way up the corporate ladder by the grace of God. Jay said most who lived the life he did die or go to jail. He changed, followed his instincts at just the right time. “Good instincts” means listening to God’s voice.
He's an unreasonable man who came into this world without instruction, but he had good instincts. He lived enough pain to bury his fear & did what he had to do. He had the “instinct to increase” & did so by any means necessary. He wasn't given a lot in this life, but he's multiplied the gifts he was given 100 fold. Therefore, he's a fitting modern-day example of someone who's enacted this “Parable of the Talents.” And the fact that after a lot of hard work on his journey, he was blessed with the comfort of Beyoncè can stand as inspiration for the gifted but lonely. Much can be learned from Jay-Z. A lot of his works, especially his more recent volumes, speak to the struggles leaders face.
If you don't like Jay-Z, yet you want to be successful... quote me on this one, “never hate on someone who has that which you aspire to acquire.” You can learn something from anyone who has something you want. So don't waste your energy on anger, hatred, envy, etc (ie. criticizing the gifted). Instead, spend your energy learning from that person. There's a reason Jay-Z has an album series called “The Blueprint.” The box set is literally (with an architectural drawing & everything) the blueprint to his success. Because he's been writing songs throughout his journey, he's also leaving one of the most complete & accessible blueprints around. I recommend his book “Decoded” to anyone interested in creativity, success, or leadership... or who has an opinion on hip hop as an art form. The book was enough to convince Oprah of the validity of hip hop, & she was a very outspoken longtime critic. But enough about Jay-Z.

Jean-Michel Basquiat Charles the First
“Most Kings get their heads cut off,” the famous quote from the bottom left corner of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Charles the First, is the refrain of “Most Kings.” In this song as well as “Why I Love You,” he compares the pairs of Caesar & Brutus as well as Jesus & Judas. The troops are fickle. The “same sword they Knight you (with), they (wanna) goodnight you with.” & if you “try to teach these ****** how to be kings, but all they ever wanted to be was soldiers,” they may then consider you an outsider & have no qualms about coming for your head even though you love them. It may sound harsh, but it's true. Why? My favorite definition of leadership is, “creating a future for others that would not otherwise exist.” So in creating that future, you can become like those in Zion trying to unplug people from the machines of The Matrix which are feeding off of them.
Tumblr media
But why would I work so hard to help people who may rise up against me? What if there are too many of them? Maybe I should do my work behind the scenes?
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.”
(Psalm 23:5)
Bishop Jakes said that when you're surrounded by “haters,” that's most likely when God is going to bless you.
So now that you're blessed before them, how do you prevent them from becoming your demise? For that, you need great leadership qualities, but the saving grace above all others is not an acquired skill, but a gift. You need intuition.
Tumblr media
Envy
I've expressed that these gifts are also a burden. I've told you that the struggle to create an external environment that matches one's internal visions can be maddening. I've shared that when you're a leader, the problems of those you lead become a burden you're constantly fighting even while you're trying to avoid an uprising from the troops you fight for but may be your ultimate demise. There's an internal conflict between your emotions & your purpose, & your rational mind & the work your spirit compels you toward. There's also external conflict between you & that which opposes you for attempting to lead; leading to a future that cannot otherwise exist. Yet people envy you & the envious ones will very likely prove to be the weak links in your organization & attempt to become your ultimate demise.
It's amazing that they envy you, the leader who has all of their problems & their peers' problems, plus your own, & that causes them to become yet another one of your problems.
So Bishop Jakes spoke on the sin of envy. He said, Never covet that which belongs to your neighbor because You Can't Handle It! You are gifted according to your ability. And when you gain greater abilities & have conquered the opposition on your level, you get to move up. If you try to move up before you're ready, you will destroy yourself!
Your life is about you & what you do with your gifts. When you put your gifts to their best use on your level, you'll rise above & can even be crowned with a new gift. And of course with that new gift will come greater responsibility & more opposition, but at that point, you can handle it.
The Purpose of Pain
One of my mother's favorite stories to tell is of watching men walk on hot coals in Hawaii. She was amazed they did it without flinching. So when they finished, she asked one how it was done. He explained that pain is simply an alert telling your brain that something is wrong. So when you acknowledge it & assure the brain that you are okay, you can dismiss the pain alert.
So why do the gifted experience such great pain?
Loneliness
If you're connected to others, that's a comfort. Being comforted is a reduction in pain. So when your purpose is so much greater than you, you will live in pain until you connect with whatever spiritual forces you need to fulfill your purpose. That pain is a constant reminder that you need to use your gift & connect to the source to make some changes. Deep companionship dulls the pain & can lull you into a false sense of security as you forget to go to the source.
The Brink of Insanity
Being haunted by visions that have yet to manifest can cause most creatives to get to the brink of insanity - I spoke of in my previous post - where they say, “I have to create this or I'm going to explode!”
Of course, one will not usually allow themselves to explode. LOL That would go against the most basic instinct of self-preservation, so that a person's will must become truly unbending. The most valuable lesson I learned from the season finale of the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” cartoon was, “to bend the will of another, your will has to be truly unbending.” So at the brink of insanity, you may find the unbending will to manifest your greatest potential.
“A reasonable man adapts himself to his environment. An unreasonable man persists in attempting to adapt his environment to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
~George Bernard Shaw
Under Siege
When under siege, one must dig deep. This predicament is one of the greatest tests of character. It's a test of a true believer. In this situation, you must either stand up for what you believe in, or give up & allow your creation to be destroyed. This is a test of the strength of one's character, will, & conviction. Making it through & maintaining one's sanity is evidence of readiness to break through to a new level.
Dissent Amongst the Troops
The lessons learned from making it through a Siege prepares the initiate in part for this next level of attack. But where this attack differs greatly from the other is that previous sieges could easily be circumstantial. But at this level the attack is personal. Again, this is a test of the strength of one's character, will, & conviction, but it's also a test of the capacity of one's heart.
So why must the gifted endure such pain?
Fear is the anticipation of pain.
When the pain is present & there is nothing to anticipate, fear ceases to exist.
The Next Level
When all fear has gone out of the window, your most basic instinct of self-preservation is transformed into what I like to call “True Self Actualization.”
Tumblr media
At that point, it's like Maslow's Hierarchy of needs inverts & the soul's highest need becomes your most basic need.
I'm at the point where my fears have been buried. The anticipation of pain has been buried in actual pain. It doesn't sound very pleasant, but it's the most powerful state of being.
Tumblr media
From rock bottom, you're already lost to the world around you. All you have is the vision that haunts you & you know that manifesting it into reality is the only lasting solution to your ultimate peace.
When you feel you have nothing to lose, you Bury Your Fear & Expose your Talent!
Why? Because you have nothing to lose and everything you ever imagined to gain!
So here's my "Message for the Gifted:" Pain is Powerful!
If you missed the 1st 3 parts of this series, here they are...
Message for the Gifted: Ever wonder why you’re so gifted or feel the burden of a cross many envy? Then this is for you. (From the Bishop T.D. Jakes Sermon on “The Parable of the Talents”)
Message for the Gifted Pt 2: Living in Pain (a holistic triage of the gifted patient)
Message for the Gifted Pt 3: Genius, Insanity, & The Spiritual Burden of The Gifted

How to Write a LinkedIn Summary That People Would Stop for You
According to some estimates,[1] 467 million people use LinkedIn and two new members sign up every second. The popular business and employment-oriented platform have users from 200 different countries, and it’s available in more than 20 languages. LinkedIn has become a powerful tool for business success with more than 10 million endorsements so far.
Setting up an account on this platform is vital for your career, but you have to make some effort. In order to succeed, your profile has to be well-crafted and stand out from all others with an unique summary. The problem is, a lot of people have summaries that are too generic, and there is nothing to catch someone’s attention. As a result, you are unable to get the most out of your LinkedIn presence.
Believe me; the problem with bad summaries on LinkedIn is quite common so you shouldn’t despair if you think yours doesn’t meet certain standards.
The good thing is; you can always create a different, improved summary that will catch everyone’s attention. As a social media expert who has helped numerous individuals and businesses to boost the quality of LinkedIn profiles, I bring you some useful tips to create a stellar LinkedIn summary easily.
Most LinkedIn users assume nobody even reads the summary, but that is not true
You are probably wondering why is summary important anyway. Most LinkedIn users assume nobody even reads that section, but that is not true. You should think of your profile on this platform as a type of resume with extra personality. The purpose of the summary is to educate and persuade the reader to want to learn more or even collaborate with you.[2] This section doesn’t only provide more info about your skills; it also reveals how you express yourself. You can learn a lot about a person just by reading how they write about themselves. A stellar summary is like a movie trailer, highlights all the qualities while sending a clear message that you have a lot to offer.
What is wrong why my current summary?
LinkedIn is a powerful social media marketing tool that a lot of us take for granted.[3] We usually assume that just because the idea behind this platform is to form business connections, we are pretty much set up. The reality is different; the quality of your profile determines whether you are a good match for someone’s business, and summary plays a vital role. What is wrong with it? Open your LinkedIn profile and read this section from top to bottom. Finished? Okay, so the chances are high the summary includes some “powerful” verbs, statistics or other data about your accomplishments at previous jobs, awards, and honors. Am I right? Well, there is your answer.
You took the approach that you found most professional, and although summary should demonstrate your skills and info you want others to know, it might make people wonder “What can you do for me, then?” The primary cause of summary-related problems is failing to mention how someone can benefit from collaborating with you. Percentages and other data do seem impressive, but at the end of the day, the reader just wants to read something with more depth. Other sources of the problem include poor structure, grammar and spelling mistakes, generic text.
How to write a high-quality summary
You’ll be happy to know that all problems mentioned above can be fixed easily. In order to do so, all you have to do is to follow these simple steps.
Step 1
One of the most common pitfalls that people face is not knowing what to write. Take a pen and a piece of paper and write down your qualities and other info that other people should know about. The choice is yours here, you can mention everything from some personal characteristics to why you love your job, what do you do actually and so on. No need to create full sentences at this point, just create a list.
Step 2
Start with a bang! The beginning is always crucial, it’s a hook that catches reader’s attention. You want that person to know more and keep reading summary rather than moving on to something else. For this purpose you can use a question, even a few words with exclamation e.g. Focused! Or maybe you can start off with an interesting fact about you such as Every day I watched my mother/father get ready for work and hoped I would become just like him/her one day, goal-oriented, driven, and kind at the same time.
Step 3
Mention important details to inform readers about yourself and your expertise. Now in the era of micro-influencer marketing letting people know what you can do for them is crucial.[4] Some points to cover include:
• Important accomplishments e.g. how much money you helped your company save, successful campaigns you carried out, and other details related to your niche
• Values and passions such as optimism, love for yoga and meditation, and things you appreciate. A reader doesn’t read the summary to learn about your work, he/she wants to learn more about you, as a person
• Things you can do better than someone else e.g. I inspire and engage even the most skeptical clients
• Figures and facts when applicable. As mentioned above this is one of the most common problems or pitfalls in summaries. People get caught up in numbers and then their entire summary is made up of percentages. Ideally, this info should account for sentence or two of the entire summary
• What do you offer? What does someone get by working with you? Who can benefit from collaboration with you and why? Answer these questions to let reader know what can you do for them or provide a short list of different specialties
Step 4
End your summary with a call to action.[5] You can use something witty such as “reach out to me if you want to talk about football and technology” or you can submit some links and other info that people can use to contact or learn more about you.
Mistakes to avoid
• Writing one large paragraph – summaries written this way seems unappealing, and a reader will highly likely skip it. Instead, divide your summary into paragraph and make sure there’s a lot of white space
• Including overused buzzwords – words like passionate, creative, motivated don’t make you stand out. Instead, use synonyms or express yourself in a different manner
• Writing in the third person – while it may seem more professional, this summary is impersonal and doesn’t do its purpose – helping readers to get to know you on a professional and personal level
• Using slang – gonna, wanna, shoulda, coulda don’t belong to your summary. Make sure this section is free of spelling and grammar mistakes
Examples of good summaries
Writing a summary on LinkedIn requires a little bit of effort but it is not the most difficult job in the world. Just find a balance that informs others about your core values and business accomplishments or what you offer for potential collaborators without making it seem like you are bragging or focusing on numbers all the time. Here are examples of three different summaries.
1. Mark Lazen
What makes this summary great is the fact that Mr. Lazen talks about his business accomplishments and provides a glimpse into his witty personality with “I’m the calm one” or “I don’t care who gets the credit, I just want to win”. People who go to his profile can see what he offers and he ends with a nice call to action.
2. Paul H. Simon
This particular summary starts with a relatable introduction that, certainly, catches a reader’s attention. Mr. Simon also discusses his strengths and provides a brief insight into different ways he can help his clients and ends with a call to action by providing contact info where people can reach him.
High-quality summary on LinkedIn provides a useful insight into your personality and demonstrates different skills you can offer to potential collaborators. In order to get the most out of the summary, it is necessary to compose it properly and this article provided a few tips and tricks you can use.
