was explaining Patchwork Melody and what exactly the story is to a friend and i think i gave the best explanation possible about the name and the theme even though i'm currently half-awake

(putting under a cut just because it's a sloppy mess of words and not my usual writing here, but to edit it is to lose something, i think)

and the theme of communication is why like, so much of the writing (though not as much in these snippets since most of them are like. "epilogue" stuff) is about like. just talking and establishing boundaries and resolving communication issues. like mel asking patch if they want to be touched, or waiting for permission before teasing them, that kinda stuff. and why patch's name is a secret kept close to my heart because it's kinda symbolic of the point when they finally Understand each other (which. is definitely not currently editing for a prompt i am late for.)

if i may infodump, the name itself kinda represents the whole vibe because like, the entire thing is very much about communication. and the name "Patchwork Melody" works as like, wordplay on [****]'s nickname and Melody, obviously, but it also like, brings to mind this image of a very jittery song composed of parts of a bunch of other songs, like a musical quilt, something that maybe starts out discordant but the longer you listen the more you can kinda understand it, it isn't what you expect but it's not bad.

so like. about them bringing out the best in each other, for patch, he starts the story as an anxious fear blob after years of abuse, and then he (eventually) starts being treated like the most important thing ever by mel and sort of learns to see himself as more of a person at the same time mel does. and additionally he sort of learns that even though he can't speak that doesn't mean he can't, express needs and desires, and he doesn't have to just be a wallflower, whether it's asking for things or setting boundaries

and for mel, deep down she's an anxious as hell person with no social skills who is constantly pushing people away by being just too much, and having to learn to intentionally modify her behavior in order to not constantly freak out patch kind of teaches her to be more considerate and personable, not just of him but of everybody. like, learning to meet people's energies halfway without having to sacrifice who she is.

like, their character motivations at the start of the story are Fear (Patch) and Loneliness (Mel), but by the end their motivations become Self-Actualization (Patch) and Kindness (Mel) and neither of those would be possible without the interference of the other

tl;dr i am just a simple gay and sometimes an ADHD transfem dorkass and a traumatized queer fae who are both autistic-coded are a found family and that's okay.

I really don't want to seen rude, but as a form of advice, i think oliver is at risk of becoming perfect, really he is patient, calm, collected, humble, kind, organized, etc. I love him as a character, but he doesnt seen to have many flaws who are really important for anrealistic character and breakes the ilusion of a perfect guy.

I mean he doesnt seen confortable talking about his past which isnt really a flaw but aside from that i really don't see any flaws or bad habits.

Really REALLY don't mean to be rude its just an observation I've made and maybe he has more flaws that I didnt notice

I understand the thought process there, but Oliver does have flaws they just aren't as obvious as characters like Sammy or James; Sammy is allergic to asking for help even if on the edge of death, and James is insecure about his worth and coming to terms with the fact that he used to be abusive.

Oliver on the other hand is usually written as the contrast to these sorts of characters; from their perspective he is unwaveringly kind and brave, so it's something that forces them to reconcile with their own behaviors and be better. This also means his flaws aren't seen as often because their flaws are focused on.

Oliver is flawed in a quiet way; something others don't see or recognize because from the outside looking in he seems perfect.

Oliver self-isolates. He masks. He tries not to let anyone's perception slip through his facade or else.

[To his coworkers he was known as a good worker; polite, well-received, compassionate. He wasn't friends with anyone though.

This didn't upset him in the slightest. He liked his quiet life, and whenever he got close to others they ultimately ended up discovering his past, rumours would spread, and then everyone would treat him differently again.]

The 'again' part there is important. Even though he says that it doesn't upset him in the slightest, his self-isolation was learned after getting close to someone before and that not going well.

[So things were fine like this. Quiet. Sometimes a bit lonely, but nothing Oliver couldn't handle. He stuck to his routine and that was that.]

His routine is a coping mechanism; it represents safety and comfort and allows him to not ever face his own issues until something breaks that routine (namely, James).

It's only after meeting James and seeing James be vulnerable that Oliver opens up about things in his own past, and he's always quick to move on from it. He always preaches about sharing your feelings without fear but when it comes to his past he deflects.

[Oliver cut himself off abruptly, remembering once again that his cousins were missing…and probably not even alive. Oliver turned his head to the side, brows furrowing in upset.

"Well… that's that."]

A lot of his flaws are still a mystery because they aren't shown as often, but obviously I as the writer are aware of them. In some unfinished stories he dissociates, drinks, and goes into self-loathing spirals (but obviously, because those are unfinished and unpublished I wouldn't expect people to know what I haven't shown lol).

Both human and borrower Oliver were told by their mother that they should have died instead. Borrower Oliver was told that mostly in reference to his sister when she drowned— and he blames himself for not being there when she needed him. Human Oliver's family all got in a car accident instead, and so he instead wishes he had been in the car (and he was originally supposed to be going in the car too) and died there, which is what his mother said.

He should have been there.

When his cousins went missing, Oliver just happened to be missing Sammy's birthday that year (both human and borrower Oliver), and he wishes he hadn't. I'll show a bit of an unfinished story;

[If Oliver knew that would have been his last chance to see them it wouldn't have mattered what he was doing— he would've been there. He should have been there.]

To James when he saw Oliver's wall of notes and pictures he saw it as a memorial of sorts; he found it sad but didn't recognize what it actually was; a constant reminder of the mistakes he made and who suffered because of it. Because yes, Oliver does blame himself even though he had very little control over how those tragedies played out.

[Oliver looked upon the note that he had attached to the wall as he sat at the edge of his bed; a mug of tea clutched so tightly in his hands that the tips of his fingers were turning white. It was no longer hot. He wasn't sure how long he had been reading and rereading the note, but it continued to taunt him again and again.]

Anyway. I hope that helped explain him a bit better— Oliver isn't supposed to be perfect, but he is definitely supposed to seem perfect. That's why I usually have other characters being the perspective of the story and actively thinking about how perfect Oliver is— when Oliver is alone and it's his own perspective, that's when you get the juicy bits.

before your lips met bill denbrough’s, love was always, to say the least, a conundrum. lets be real for second, boys wasted your time, and you let them. only the cute ones of course. you are a hopeless romantic, drunk off of molly ringwald and john travolta films. you wanted any relationship you had to be just like the movies.

through your heart breaks, your best friends stood by you, your losers. eddie, richie, bev, stan, ben, and bill. for each tear you shed a punch was thrown to the man who caused it, they were protective over you. bill the most though, he always got so defensive when you were in the mix. all throughout middle & high school, bill has had to deal with every guy who even dares to think about breaking your heart.

“its not fair bill” you wailed into your pillow. he stroked your back and hushed you, his eyes welling with tears. “im never fucking good enough for any guy and its so fucking sad!” your complaints being cut off mid sentence by a choked out cry. “y-y/n. all of y-your boyfriend are i-idiots. anyone w-who would d-d-do this to you isnt w-worth your t-time. anyone w-would be the luckiest in the w-world to have y-you in their life” you picked your head up and looked at him with swollen lips and blood shot eyes “there no one out there for me bill, no one.” 

he bit his lip, fighting back any tears dripping from his eyes “they j-just dont see how p-pretty you are. how g-gentle and caring and s-s-sweet, and h-how your face c-can light up any room. theyre f-fucking idiots, and you d-deserve m-more.” you clearly thought he was being nice, because you could take a MOTHER FUCKING GOD DAMN hint, so you replied “i wish there was someone out there like you, for me, that thinks of me the way you do.” 

he furrowed his brows, tossing his head back and running his fingers furiously through his hair. “d-dammit y/n!” he cursed “cant you s-see what ive b-been trying to say? w-w-what ive been t-trying to say f-for the last f-five years!?!” your expression was bewildered, your brain was going a mile a minute trying to figure out what he meant. his frustration got the best of him, he got up and stormed out the door,  feeling embarrassed and stupid for trying to make you understand how he felt.

he was half way out your front door, fuming for his keys lodged deep into his front pocket; when suddenly:

his head turned at the call of his name, “y-y/n please i d-”

your lips locked with his, he rain pouring heavily outside. bills lips stilled at the contact, but this lasted briefly, he deepened this kiss by pulling you in to his abdomen by your mid back. your bunched the front of his base ball t shirt with your fists, and he did the same but with your hair.

the rest is basically history.

now six months later, and you couldnt have been happier. bill knew how to treat you, nights out twice a week (you always wanted to pay but bill insisted,) holding your hand to and from classes, he let you borrow have his varsity baseball jacket, which smelt just like him and was a little too big for you. 

when he would drop you off and your classes, he would always grab your hand and transfer a tiny piece of paper into your palm. when you got into class to unfold it, it was always a cute little message about his love for you. 

bill had it bad for you, everyone knew that, and you loved every minute of it. he met every and any standard you had, and exceeded your expectations. 

it was september, still warm enough in derry to wear shorts, so you and your friends thought of a last hurrah for the ending of the summery weather.

“camp out, its nearly perfect” Richie exclaimed. eddie rolled his eyes “like youve ever been near anything perfect toizer, do you even know what perfect means?” richie shoved eddie “yeah eddie i actually have. have you seen amanda’s tits?”

 you tuned out richie and eddies bickering as you’re boyfriend cleared his throat. “you g-gonna go?” he said into your ear, “only if you promise to wear bug spray bill, you know how bad-” he cut you off with a kiss, his mouth forming a small smile at how cute you were. “get a room, honestly” stan poked, pda wasn’t his favorite... “at least i h-have something to k-kiss aye s-stannie”

you arrived at the edge of the forest, parking your car at the last parking ish space. you walked toward the sounds of ben and richie fighting, and came to see that richie really went all out. three tents, sticks for a fire, and more snacks than anyone needed. 

you all spent the remanence of the daylight dancing in the light sky, sharing stories, and eating waaaay too many chips. it was dark now, you all huddled in a circle near the fire; making small talk and trying not to admit you were all very tired.

“ok folks, im off to bed” richie yawned “me stan eddie n’ mike will take the green tent, bev and ben in the red.” richie paused and smirked over at you and bill, you were tangled in his limbs, golfed in his navy blue pull over. “and uh- heh- billy boy and y/n in the yellow tent eh?” you could practically feel bills eye roll, god richie was so immature.

“w-we dont have to s-sleep in the s-s-same tent, i c-can ask ben if he’d s-switch” you look up at bill and reassure him “bill no- its not a big deal, right?” he tucks your hair behind your ear and kisses the side of your temple “c-course not.”

you both went into the tent, bill began to unroll the blankets you both had packed tightly into your bags. You both set up your makeshift bed, bill leaned against a pile of pillows while you hugged his side, your face buried in his neck. his smell was absolutely intoxicating; his skin had remanence of his milk and honey body wash, but it was slightly overpowered by wintergreen, clove, and his bourbon cologne. 

you were like this for around an hour, the orange crank-powered lantern being the only source of light. you switch positions though, you now laid your head on his lap, reading a magazine you stole from the hair salon. he watched your eyes scan every letter, when you read something funny you’d huff to yourself, and when something was intresting you stuck your tongue out from between your teeth. he adored you.

“d-dont stay up t-too late” he stroked your hair off your shoulder “we have t-to have you w-well r-r-rested.” you sat up from beside him, as he adjusted the pillows and took off his pull over, then his pants. he got under the covers and waited for you.

“nice donut boxers” you laughed. “s-shut up” he blushed and regreted not changing them when he had the chance. you turned around took off your shirt, you were shy about how you looked, but it was just bill. it was just bill. you heard his breath hitch, his eagerness radiating off his body onto yours. the air became tense as you unzipped your pants and threw them to the corner. you turned around, bills pupils growing until you were completely facing him.

“yeah i know. mine are boring” you laugh nervously, brushing your hair behind your ear and getting under the covers next to him. he didnt respond, he couldnt take his eyes off of you.you began to sit up again “i can go put back on-” “n-no!” he interrupts, his blush taking up his entire face.

“i j-j-just cant b-believe i g-get to see something s-so special” he gulped “s-so b-b-b-beautiful.”

Beca’s Calamity?

“Beca, wake up,” Chloe said as she nudged her best friend. “Becs? Come on. We’re on the base. I can’t believe we’re in Spain!”

Beca mumbled and stretched her arms over her head before slowly opening her eyes to catch the big smile Chloe was wearing. “Hey,” she said, smiling back at Chloe.

“Let’s go, girls,” Aubrey’s commanding voice said, rousing the group.

“This is exciting,” Ashley said. “I’ve always wanted to visit Spain.”

“Flo, can you teach us some useful phrases in Spanish we can use?” Jessica asked as they all got off the bus to get their luggage.

“Sí,” Flo said.

Jessica laughed. “I know that means yes. I was thinking more along the lines of where’s the bathroom or where’s a good place to eat? And, especially, you’re cute, are you single?”

Jessica raised her eyebrows up and down, and the girls laughed.

“Dónde está el baño, is where is the bathroom,” Flo said. The girls repeated it back.

“Muy bien,” Flo said, nodding her head. “That means very good. Eres lindo eres soltero means you’re cute, are you single?”

Jessica repeats it once or twice. Flo smiles and tells her she has down, and now all she has to do is find someone cute and try it out.

 “Okay, ladies,” Aubrey said, getting everyone’s attention. “Our escort is here and will show us to the hangar where we will have our soundcheck.”

“If you ladies will follow me,” a young female soldier said and started walking across the tarmac.

The girls hurriedly grabbed their luggage and followed the woman. After an unfortunate encounter with John and Gail, the Bellas were met by two army Sergeants.

“Well, hello,” Flo purred as the girls watched the two soldiers make their way to them.

Beca looked over to see Chloe’s eyes suddenly light up as she bit her lower lip and smoothed down her hair. She followed her line of sight to see what made Chloe perk up as she did.

Beca scoffed and muttered to herself, “Of course she’d be interested in a soldier.”

The two soldiers stopped in front of the Bellas and smiled. The soldier Chloe had been eying spoke, and Beca had a hard time hearing when one of the planes ‘revved’ its engines.

“Did he just say his name was Chicago,” Beca thought. “Oh, God, if Chloe gets with him, their ship name will be something stupid like Chlocago or ChiChloe.” Beca’s eyes grew wide as she thought, “Oh, my God! I have got to stop hanging around Amy.”

“Is that like after night time?” Chloe asked coyly.

Beca rolled her eyes and stared at Chloe.

“It’s five,” Chicago said with a boyish grin.

“Thanks,” Chloe said, and she and Chicago continued to stare at each other with shy smiles.

“Gag me,” Beca mumbled.

“What was that, Beca?” Chloe asked.

“Oh, great,” Beca thought. “Now she decides to pay attention to me.”

Beca was saved from responding when Amy raised her hand and asked, “So, this is first base. Will you be going to second base with us as well?”

Beca groaned and noticed Emily wince. She gave the youngest Bella a small smile.

“We need to get you ladies into the hangar for your soundcheck,” Chicago said and started walking toward the building without responding to Amy.

Chloe almost knocked Beca and Emily over as she rushed past them to catch up to Chicago.

“Here we go again,” Beca said so only Emily could hear her.

Or so she thought.

“What was that, Beca?” Aubrey asked from behind her.

“You know it’s just another fling for Chloe, right?” Emily said. “She does this all the time.”

“That’s the problem,” Beca said. “Chloe keeps having these flings, and I’m left on the sidelines waiting for her to notice I’m still here. I’m tired of being on the sidelines.”

“Don’t give up on her, Beca,” Aubrey said, as the three walked side-by-side. “Chloe hasn’t yet admitted to herself that she still has feelings for you. You need to do something to make her take notice.”

“Like what?” Becas asked, frustration making her voice whiney. “It’s been almost seven years. I’ve outright told her I liked her and nothing. She just laughs and says she feels the same way for her “bestie.” I’m stuck in the friend zone and will never get out.”

“Then find someone else,” Emily said with a shrug as they came to a stop behind Chicago.

“Ladies, these are the other groups in the competition,” Chicago said before Beca or Aubrey could say anything further. 

“I knew there was a competition,” Chloe said excitedly, causing Chicago to smile at her exuberance. “There’s always a competition.”

Chicago introduced the groups to the Bellas. Beca couldn’t handle Chloe fawning over Chicago, so instead of standing next to Chloe like she always did, she stood near the back of the Bellas. She looked around while Chloe and Aubrey were having a back and forth verbal exchange with the members of Evermoist. The group was four women and all quite attractive.

Beca wasn’t paying too much attention to the conversation, but she did find herself checking out the lead singer and got caught. She saw Calamity looking at her with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.

Beca blushed but managed to throw a smirk back. Beca considered moving closer to get a really good look at calamity, but suddenly they were in the middle of a riff-off.

~~ Beca’s Calamity? ~~

After their horrible showing at the riff-off, the Bellas walked away with Aubrey stating, “We won. We won.”

Beca hung back, and Calamity came over to her.

“Hey, sorry about all that,” Calamity said. “We’re really competitive, and after fighting like hell to get selected for this, we were a bit put-off that your group just waltzed in because one of your singers’ father got you in.”

“Yeah, sorry about that,” Beca said. “We just wanted to sing together again. Life’s been rough since we all graduated from college.”

“I hear you,” Calamity said. “I have a law degree, and my family is beside themselves because I’m pursuing my dream to become a musician.”

“For what it’s worth,” Beca said. “You girls are fantastic. I love your sound.”

“Thanks,” Calamity said. “Um, would you want to get a drink with me?”

“Oh, uh,” Beca said. “I have to get back to the Bellas. We have to check-in to our hotel and get settled.”

“How about later then?” Calamity asked. “I believe we are all staying in the same hotel. We can meet at the bar, say around seven?”

“I, um,” Beca glanced to where the Bellas were standing. Chloe was chatting up Chicago. “You know what, I’d love to. I’ll see you at the hotel bar at seven.”

“Perfect,” Calamity said. “And if all goes well, maybe we can get some dinner after.”

“It’s a date,” Beca said. “I should get back to my group.”

“See you later, hot stuff,” Calamity said, causing Beca to blush and smile.

“Come on, Beca,” Emily called out. “We’re going to the hotel.”

“Coming,” Beca called back. “I’ll see you later, Calamity.”

Beca turned and hurried over to the group. Chloe walked over to her.

“What was all that about?” Chloe asked.

“Oh, nothing,” Beca said, blushing and putting a piece of hair behind her ear.

“Didn’t look like nothing,” Chloe said, seeing how nervous Beca was.

“It was nothing,” Beca said a bit more forcefully. “Calamity and I were talking.”

“What about?” Chloe asked.

“What difference does it make?” Beca said. “We were just talking.”

Aubrey heard Beca and realized she was getting angry.

“Come on, girls,” Aubrey said, trying to diffuse whatever was happening with Beca and Chloe. “Let’s go.”

Beca looked at Chloe and shook her head. She turned and made her way over to Emily.

Chloe furrowed her brow and walked over to Aubrey.

“What was all that ?” Aubrey asked quietly as they started walking.

“I don’t know,” Chloe said. “Beca got mad when I asked what she and Calamity were talking about. They looked pretty cozy for having just met.”

“So do you and Chicago,” Aubrey mumbled.

“What?”

“Hey, Chloe,” Chicago said as Chloe and Aubrey got on the bus. “I saved you a seat.”

“Thanks,” Chloe gushed as she sat next to Chicago.

Aubrey looked up and saw Beca frowning. Aubrey sat next to Beca.

“You okay?”

“Yeah,” Beca said. “I thought Chloe might sit next to me, but I should have known better. I guess accepting Calamity’s request for a date wasn’t such a bad idea after all.”

“You and Calamity are going on a date?” Aubrey said a bit louder than she had intended.

“Could you keep it down?” Beca said, looking around. Her heart nearly stopped when she saw Chloe looking at her with what looked like a mix of anger and sadness.

“Sorry,” Aubrey said. “But, it looks like it might bother Chloe a bit that you’re going out with Calamity.”

“If I’m continually worrying about what bothers Chloe, I’ll never date,” Beca said and turned her head to stare out the window.

Aubrey turned to look at Chloe and would swear she saw tears in her eyes before she turned her head around.

Aubrey caught Emily watching the exchange, as well. Emily frowned and shook her head; Aubrey let out a sigh and shrugged her shoulders.

~~ Beca’s Calamity? ~~

A few hours later, Beca was trying to decide what to wear to meet Calamity.

“Keep the jeans and change the shirt to something a little nicer,” Emily suggested. “You said it was going to be casual. Don’t look like you’re trying too hard.”

“You’re right,” Beca said with a heavy sigh. “I haven’t had a real date in so long I don’t know how  to even dress for one.”

Beca pulled out a red silk button-down blouse and held it up. Emily smiled and nodded.

“That’s the one,” Emily said. “It’s casual but also classy.”

Beca thanked her and changed her shirt. She then went over to the mirror and touched up her makeup, and ran a brush through her hair.

“I want to thank you and Aubrey,” Beca said as she was putting on her earrings. “I’m not sure I could have handled sharing a room with Chloe right now.”

“It was all Aubrey,” Emily said. “She and I were going to share, but when she heard Chloe say she was sharing with you, Aubrey spoke and pulled the I haven’t seen my best friend in ages, and we need to catch up card.”

“I’m lucky to have you guys,” Beca said. She smoothed down her blouse and looked at Emily. “Okay, how do I look?”

“You look good,” Emily said. “You should probably head down to the bar. It’s almost seven.”

“Right,” Beca said and chewed on her lip. “Am I doing the right thing? Should I go out with Calamity when I feel so strongly for Chloe?”

“That’s a question only you can answer, Beca,” Emily said. “But, if you want my opinion, I think it’s great that you are moving on. Calamity seems like a good person, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time together.”

“What about Chloe?” Beca asked.

“What about her?” Emily responded. “Has she shown any indication that she wants to be with you? Has she said she likes you as more than a friend?”

“No,” Beca said. “You’re right. I would like to get to know Calamity better, and that’s what dating is all about. Thanks, Em.”

“Have fun,” Emily said. “Oh, and text me if you don’t plan on coming back to the room.”

“I’ll be back,” Beca said with a laugh.

~~ Beca’s Calamity? ~~

“Shit,” Beca said when she spotted Chloe and Chicago sitting at the bar.

“Hey,” Calamity said, placing her hand on Beca’s back, causing Beca to jump slightly. “Sorry. Shall we sit at the bar?”

“Um,” Beca said, looking over at the bar to see Chloe watching them. “Could we get a table instead?”

“Sure,” Calamity said and motioned to a table.

The two sat down, and a waitress walked over. They ordered drinks and then sat quietly for a moment.

“So, um,” Calamity started speaking and stopped. She noticed Beca glancing over toward the bar and looked over. She saw that Chloe seemed really interested in their table.

“What’s the story with you and Red over there?” Calamity finally asked.

Beca scoffed. “There’s no story there.”

“Really?” Calamity questioned. “Because she’s staring daggers at me, and I have a feeling it’s because she’s jealous that someone other than her is sitting here with you.”

“Jealous? Not likely,” Beca said. “I’ve been friend-zoned, so nothing for her to be jealous over.”

“So there is a story,” Calamity said.

The waitress arrived with their drinks and set them on the table.

Beca thanked her and said, “Could you bring us another round?”

The waitress nodded her head and left their table. Calamity looked questioningly at Beca.

“If I’m going to spill my guts, I’m going to need more alcohol,” Beca said.

“I’m listening,” Calamity said and sipped at her drink. “Were you two a thing and had a bad breakup or something.”

Beca snorted and proceeded to tell Calamity about her feelings for Chloe and how Chloe didn’t reciprocate those feelings.

They had finished their first drink and were starting on the second when Beca stopped speaking.

“So, you love her, but she doesn’t feel the same way?”

“That’s it in a nutshell.”

Calamity sipped her drink and took another look over to the bar. Chloe was still watching them but looked away as soon as Calamity caught her eye.

“I think you’re wrong about that,” Calamity said. “I think she does care about you.” Beca scoffed. Calamity asked, “Want to test my theory?”

“I think you’re wrong,” Beca said, glancing over at Chloe, who was laughing and smiling at Chicago. “But I’m game. What kind of a test do you have in mind?”

“Follow my lead,” Calamity said. 

Beca nodded her head and muttered, “Okay.”

Calamity smiled at Beca, and Beca smiled back. “After I finish talking, I want you to laugh and cover your face like I said something complimentary.”

Beca let out a laugh and did as Calamity said.

“Now, I want you to lean in closer like we’re whispering,” Calamity said.

Beca did, and Calamity leaned in as well.

Chloe’s mouth dropped open as she watched Beca and Calamity. She closed her mouth and turned away from them.

“You okay, Chloe?” Chicago asked.

“Yes,” Chloe said and then sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “No, I’m not okay.”

“What’s wrong?”

“That’s what’s wrong,” Chloe said, pointing out the table where Beca and Calamity were now staring into each other’s eyes.

Chicago turned to look. “What’s wrong with that? It looks like they’re really into each other.”

“That’s the problem,” Chloe mumbled.

“What was that?” Chicago said, turning back to Chloe.

“I’m sorry, Chicago,” Chloe said with a tear in her eye. “You’re a great guy, but I’m in love with-” Chloe looked over to Beca. “Beca.”

“Oh,” Chicago said. “I see. Um, that’s cool. I find you very attractive and thought maybe we could be something, but I get it. Can I ask you a personal question though?”

“Um, sure,” Chloe said hesitantly.

“If you’re in love with her, why are you over here with me?”

“Because I just recently admitted to myself that I have feelings for Beca,” Chloe said. “And seeing Beca with Calamity makes me realize that I’m too late. I had a big crush on Beca when we were back in college, but she had a boyfriend. Then when we moved to New York, she told me she liked me, but I thought she meant as her friend. I thought I had buried my feelings for her, but now-” Chloe wiped at a tear that fell.

“But now you realize your feelings are still there,” Chicago finished for Chloe.

“Yeah,” Chloe said softly. “I really am sorry, Chicago.”

“Don’t sweat it,” Chicago said. “But if I were you, I’d be over there trying to win Beca over. If you love her, fight for her.”

Chloe swallowed and looked back over at Beca. She had her head back laughing at something Calamity was saying.

Chloe chewed on her bottom lip and looked away. “It’s too late,” she whispered to Chicago. “I think I’m going to go up to my room. Thanks for the drink.”

“I’ll walk you,” Chicago said.

Beca watched as Chloe and Chicago walked out of the bar together; Chicago had his hand on Chloe’s lower back, guiding her out the door. Beca’s eyes followed them as they made their way to the elevators. She felt the tears stinging her eyes and let out a shaky breath.

“Are you okay?’ Calamity asked.

“Yeah,” Beca said, wiping her eyes. “Do you want to find someplace and get dinner? I need to keep my mind off of what they’re doing.”

“You think they might be, you know?”

Beca nodded her head but didn’t say anything.

“Come on,” Calamity said, standing and grabbing Beca’s hand. “I’m buying you dinner.”

~~ Beca’s Calamity? ~~

“Keep it down, Beca,” Calamity said as she half-carried, half-dragged Beca down the hallway to Beca’s room.

“Sorry!” Beca cried out and started laughing.

“Where’s your key card?” Calamity asked once they reached Beca’s room.

“Frisk me for it,” Beca said and held out her arms, almost falling to the floor.

“Whoa,” Calamity said, grabbing Beca before she hit the floor.

Calamity held Beca up and hesitated slightly before reaching around Beca to see if her key card was in her back pocket. Just as Calamity reached her hand into Beca’s pocket, Chloe popped her head out to see what all the noise was.

Calamity stopped and looked directly at Chloe, whose eyes were wide and her mouth hanging open.

“Chloe, it is not what it looks like,” Calamity said. “I swear. I was trying to get her key card. In case you couldn’t tell, she’s drunk and of no help at all.”

“Shhh, don’t tell Chloe I’m drunk,” Beca said, swaying a bit and hitting her back against the wall. “Ow!”

“What’s going on, Chloe?” Aubrey sleepily asked as she joined Chloe at the door.

“Beca’s drunk,” Chloe told Aubrey. “I’m going to go help Calamity get her into her room.”

“I’ll help, too,” Aubrey said. “Let me grab our key card.”

Just as Chloe got to Calamity and Beca, Beca lurched forward. Chloe had to grab her to keep her from falling onto the floor. Calamity took one side and Chloe the other and turned Beca toward the door. Chloe reached into Beca’s back pocket for her key card but stopped when the door to Beca’s room opened.

Emily stood in the doorway, rubbing her eyes. “What’s going on out here?” Upon seeing Chloe and Calamity trying to hold Beca up, Emily exclaimed, “Oh, my gosh! Beca, what’s wrong with you?”

“She’s drunk,” Calamity said. “Sorry for all the noise.”

“Emilyyyyyyyy!” Beca screamed and giggled. “Please don’t tell, um, don’t, you know, the red-headed girl that I’m drunk.” Beca leaned in toward Emily and waved her closer. Emily bit back a smile and moved closer. “I love her.”

“Um,” Emily said, pulling back to look from Beca to Chloe and back.

Chloe’s gasped and looked at Beca. Aubrey and Calamity both smiled and shook their heads.

“Looks like you read this all wrong, Chloe,” Aubrey said. “Calamity isn’t the one Beca wants.”

“I’m so sorry, Calamity,” Chloe said sincerely.

“It’s all good,” Calamity said. “She told me about her feelings when she saw you leaving with the soldier. She was upset because she figured you two were going to your room to have sex.”

“We were not!” Chloe said indignantly. “I left the bar because I couldn’t bear to see you two laughing and having a good time.”

“So, you were jealous,” Calamity said. “I told Beca that, and she didn’t believe me.”

“Maybe you guys should bring Beca inside,” Emily said.

“Oh, right,” Chloe said.

Chloe and Calamity maneuvered Beca inside and over to the bed. They laid her down and then looked at each other. Calamity smiled and said, “She did nothing but talk about you the entire time we were at dinner.”

“I’m sorry, Calamity,” Chloe said, trying not to smile at what Calamity told her.

“Stop apologizing,” Calamity said. “Beca’s hot and has a sarcastic sense of humor, which I love. But, she’s into you, and I respect that. I’m going to head out so you guys can do whatever you need to do to get Beca into bed.”

“Thank you, Calamity,” Aubrey said.

“Yeah, thanks, Calamity,” Emily said.

“I’ll see you out,” Chloe said and moved toward the door; Calamity followed.

Chloe opened the door, but before Calamity could leave, Chloe pulled her into a hug. “Thank you for taking care of her,” she whispered into Calamity’s ear.

“You’re welcome,” Calamity said, pulling out of the hug. “You should go take care of her now.”

“I will,” Chloe told her. 

Calamity left, and Chloe closed the door behind her. She let out a breath and walked over to help take care of Beca.

~~ Beca’s Calamity? ~~

The next morning, Beca groaned as she squinted her eyes open and immediately shut them. “Oh, God!”

“Good morning, sunshine,” Chloe said, sitting up in the bed next to Beca.

“What?” Beca asked, trying to sit up. She tried to clear her throat, but it was still raspy as she mumbled, “Emily, you sound like Chloe.”

“I am Chloe,” Chloe said. “We need to talk.”

“Oh, God, that does not sound good,” Beca moaned as she fell back onto the bed, her eyes still closed. “What did I do last night?”

“Get up and take a shower,” Chloe said. “You’ll feel better, and then we can talk.”

“No,” Beca said.

“Excuse me?” Chloe said.

“Just say what you want to say and get it over with,” Beca said, her voice still raspy.

“Open your eyes and look at me, please,” Chloe said.

“I can’t do that,” Beca said, putting her hands over her eyes. “It hurts my head.”

Chloe let out a sigh and got off the bed. “I’m leaving. When you’re awake, call me. I need you to be coherent when we talk.”

Chloe stopped at the door and looked back at Beca. Beca had not moved, and Chloe couldn’t help the small smile that came to her lips.

“I love you, too, by the way,” Chloe said and left the room.

Hearing Chloe’s words, Beca shot up. “What?”

Beca jumped out of bed and stumbled to the door. Beca tried three times before she could grasp the door handle and open the door. She ran out and saw Chloe at her door.

“What did you just say?” Beca yelled at Chloe.

“I said, I love you, too,” Chloe responded as she turned to face Beca.

“What do you mean too?” Beca asked as she moved toward Chloe.

“You said you loved me last night,” Chloe said, moving toward Beca.

Beca stopped mid-step. “I did?”

Chloe got closer and stopped about a foot away from Beca. “You did.”

“I was drunk,” Beca said. “It, uh, it didn’t mean anything.”

Chloe let out a frustrated sigh. “Why are you like this?”

“I can’t help it,” Beca said, looking down at the carpet. “It’s just me being me.”

“Well, stop being you for a second,” Chloe said, mild anger lacing her words. “Stop hiding behind your insecurities and tell me how you feel while sober.”

“I can’t!” Beca yelled.

“Why not?!”

“Because I’m scared!”

“Of what?!”

“Everything! Of you, of my feelings for you, of you not having the same feelings toward me!”

“I already told you I love you. What more do you want?”

“I don’t know!”

“Then why are you yelling at me?”

“I don’t know!”

“Then stop yelling,” Chloe said, her voice softer. “And just tell me you love me.”

Beca swallowed and looked at Chloe with tears in her eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Chloe said.

“I’m going to kiss you now,” Beca said.

“Not if I kiss you first,” Chloe said.

Neither will ever be able to tell you who moved first, but suddenly they were joined at the lips.

“Um, Becs,” Chloe said, grimacing as she pulled back from Beca. “As much as I like finally kissing you, you need to take a shower and brush your teeth. I want to remember our first kiss,” Chloe scrunched up her nose, “but not like this.”

“Oh, right,” Beca said, stepping back from Chloe and holding her hand in front of her mouth. “Um, give me half an hour, and we can go to breakfast and talk some more?”

Chloe smiled and nodded. Beca smiled and walked back to her room. She pushed the door handle, and the door didn’t open.

“Shit,” Beca mumbled and turned toward Chloe. “Do you know where Emily is? I’m locked out of our room.”

“Here you go, Beca,” Emily said as she walked out of Chloe’s room, holding out the key card for their room.

Beca finally looked around and noticed that all the Bellas were standing in the doorway of their rooms.

“Um, you guys saw all that?” Beca asked, blushing.

A collective “Yep!” came from the girls.

“It’s about time, too,” Cynthia Rose said. “Who’s up for breakfast?”

“I am!” “Me!”

“Then get dressed, and let’s meet in the hotel’s restaurant in thirty minutes,” CR said.

The Bellas, minus Emily and Aubrey, retreated into their rooms.

“There’s a nice diner a block from here,” Aubrey said, looking at Beca and Chloe. “You two should try it out while we have breakfast here in the hotel.”

“Thanks, Brey,” Chloe said, still looking at Beca. “Come get me when you’re ready?”

“I will,” Beca said. “Come on, Emily. I get the first shower.”

Emily smiled and followed Beca into their room. Chloe followed Aubrey, and, as soon as the door closed, Chloe squealed with excitement.

„Wow, that’s… rough?“

„Yes it is! I mean… I meant what I said. I just thought he would...”

“Say that he wants to be more than friends?”

“Yeah…” Lance put his head on the table they were studying at. The library was quiet and Lance had a hard time keeping his voice down while telling Hunk about his horrible not-date date.

“So how did the rest of the da…what happened after that?”

“Well, I was dying on the inside and pretended everything was fine on the outside. So, the usual.”

“Lance!”

Lance sighed and leaned back on his chair. The library’s ceiling suddenly seemed very fascinating to him. “We talked about stuff like favourite movies and such. I asked him about his bike. I had to leave for my seminar and he said he’d text me.”

“Well that doesn’t sound too bad,” Hunk decided and squeezed Lance’s shoulder supportively. “Maybe he just needs some time?”

“And what do I do if he doesn’t? I thought I’d be fine with being just friends but-,” he waved his hands around in a helpless motion. “I was basically doomed when he told me to be nice to my coffee in Spanish. I can’t just NOT crush on him now, you know. And that sucks… big time.”

Hunk smiled sympathetically at him and continued to flip through the book in front of him. “Just take it slow. Take a break for a few days and then invite him to do something and see what it feels like then. He’ll either change his mind or you could just bring me and Pidge along to make the friends thing easier. Maybe that’ll help?”

“Hmm. Yeah, maybe.”

Hunk closed his book and got up. “You up for visiting Pidge and Matt? I don’t think we’re gonna get anything done here right now. Also I think Matt finally got that video game you wanted to play so badly.”

“Nooo, Hunk. You wanted to study. I didn’t mean to distract you, I’m just gonna-“

“It’s fine, Lance. I can’t concentrate anyways. And you helped me so much with my last essay, I think I can go a day without studying.”

Lance smiled at him and got to his feet as well. “Okay. But I swear I’ll be back to normal tomorrow and then we’re gonna take a look at the stuff from Iverson’s physics lecture.” Hunk groaned loudly and made Lance laugh with his desperate expression. “I know, I know. But we both have to get better at that stuff.” He stood behind Hunk and made a gesture over his shoulder like he wanted to show Hunk a beautiful landscape.

“NASA, dude. NASA.”

“Ugh, you’re right. But Matt and Pidge now. My brain needs a break.”

Lance swung his backpack over his shoulder. “Maybe I get one of Pidge’s hugs. I love Pidge’s hugs.”

Hunk beside him nodded. “Everyone does, man. They’re the best.”

Keith got off his bike, took off his helmet and unzipped his leather jacket. He headed towards the university building with mixed feelings about what awaited him. He had fought with himself about coming today but eventually the curious side of him had won. Keith wanted to see what Hunk had planned for them and also even if it scared him to admit it…he missed Lance.

Logically he knew that it did not make any sense. They hardly knew each other. But emotionally he just… missed him. He sighed and blinked against the bright sunlight. He lifted his hand to shield his eyes against it and bumped into someone.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to-“

“Don’t sweat it. All good here.” A friendly voice interrupted him. The tall boy in front of him looked him over and tilted his head to the side. „Hey, are you Keith by any chance?”

Keith nodded. “The one and only.”

“Oh, great! I’m Hunk.“ Keith took the big hand he was offered and returned the welcoming smile. When Hunk gestured for them to move out of the sun and stand in the tall building’s shadow Keith followed him thankfully.

“Nice to meet you. Thanks for saving me yesterday by the way.”

“Oh, no problem. Lance can get like that sometimes when he’s stressed. He didn’t mean anything by it. You know… finals and all. He’s a bit on edge around this time of the year.”

“No, I get it. NASA is a big thing, who wouldn’t freak out, right?”

Hunk gave a nervous laugh. “Yah, I guess. So umm, Lance had to pick up our friend Pidge, they should be here-“

“Exactly now.” Lance’s voice interrupted them. He stopped next to Hunk and let Pidge whom he had been carrying just now slip off his back.

“Hey, Keith. This is Pidge. They use they pronouns. I guess you already know Hunk by now.” Lance smiled at him and clapped Hunk on the back.

Keith nodded and raised his hand in greeting at Pidge. Immediately he regretted the awkward gesture and lowered his hand quickly.

“What’s up butter cup.” Pidge replied with a grin completely ignoring Keith’s weird behavior, who in return just raised an eyebrow at their choice of words.

“Lance, why did you carry Pidge here? Did you take ‘pick them up’ literally again?” Hunk asked with his hands on his hips.

“They paid me two dollars.”

Pidge shrugged. “I didn’t want to walk. It’s too early.”

“It’s almost noon, Pidge.” Hunk said while shaking his head but there was a visible smile on his lips.

“Exactly. Way too early.”

“I feel you, Pidge.” Keith threw in. “I had three coffees before I got here.”

Pidge yawned and stretched their arms over their head. “Good thinking. I only had one and I feel dead inside.”

“So, Hunk. What is this thing? Why are we here?” Lance asked and absently patted Pidge’s head while they leaned against him, eyes closed and repeatedly yawning.

“We are here, because today…” Hunk made a dramatic pause, “They are having a lecture about space for family and friends of students and-“

“AHHH STAR CEILING?” Lance interrupted Hunk excited while bouncing up and down, Hunk just smiled and nodded.

“Yep, Star ceiling.”

“What exactly is star ceiling?” Keith asked confused. Judging from Lance’s reaction this had to be the best thing in the entire universe.

“It’s only the best thing ever, dude,” Lance started to explain while taking Keith’s arm and pulling him in the direction of a big building.

“They only do this once or twice a year when they have family day for the freshmen and around finals for the really stressed out students so they don’t go all homicidal and stuff.” They entered the lecture hall and Lance directed them to a row in the back. “It’s basically just a short lecture about space and planets and what we do here at college but at the end they turn off the lights and project stars on the ceiling and walls. Dude…it’s the most beautiful thing ever. It will change you!” He gestured for Keith to sit down in one of the empty seats and sat next to him.

Hunk took the seat on Keith’s other side and Pidge sat next to Lance. It seemed like they were just in time because a man holding a mic entered the small stage. From the corner of his eyes Keith saw Pidge leaning over to Lance and whispering something into his ear. A moment later Lance bent forward so that Hunk and Keith could both hear him.

“Sorry guys, we’re gonna get Pidge more coffee. They are literally about to murder someone. We’ll be back in a minute.” With that they both left the room and Keith was alone with Hunk, which he didn’t mind that much. They had only exchanged a few sentences but Keith already liked the guy.

The man on the stage started talking about the importance of astronomy and explained the different subjects they were teaching. Unfortunately he had a really boring and monotone voice and Keith immediately zoned out. Thank God Hunk was there to keep him entertained.

“I know this stuff isn’t really interesting, especially not when he’s talking,” Hunk pointed in the direction of the stage. “But it’s really worth it. Lance didn’t exaggerate…well maybe a little… but it actually is crazy beautiful.”

“So you three all study astronomy?” Keith asked. This was his opportunity to learn a bit more about Lance and his friends without this nervous feeling he got around his soulmate. Hunk somehow managed to create an atmosphere around him that immediately made Keith feel comfortable.

“Yeah. It was actually Lance who got me into this stuff when we were younger. We met Pidge here on our first day. They are this crazy genius and got into college early. They are only sixteen but way ahead of most of the students here. Turned out they and their brother Matt live in the same building as me and Lance so we hung with them a couple of times and now we’re all basically besties for life.”

“Space nerds unite,” Keith said with a smile.

“Haha, yeah. Basically.”

“So… do you and Pidge wanna get into NASA too or is that only Lance?” Keith checked the stage for a second but the guy was still talking about boring stuff and Keith noticed that a few other people in the audience had started quiet conversations.

“Well Pidge is as good as in, let’s be real. Me… well. Of course NASA is the dream for almost everyone at this university and I would be thrilled… but I’m not as set as Lance if that makes sense. I feel like I could work anywhere as long as I’m close to my friends.” Hunk shrugged and knitted his brows in deep thought before he cleared his throat.

“Lance is working really hard for it though. You have no idea how many scholarships he had to apply for before he finally got a foot in. Didn’t stop him though.” He smiled and Keith could feel how proud he was of his friend. “You know, the first year was rough. He failed an important test two times and was sure they were gonna kick his ass but he studied harder than all of us and now he’s always in the top 5.”

“Wow. That’s really impressive,” Keith heard himself say and immediately wanted to slap himself. Way to sound like a high school fangirl, Kogane. Can we please think before we speak, brain?!

“Yeah it is.” Hunk sighed, unfazed by Keith’s inner distress. “It’s also really hard to watch sometimes though…”

Keith raised an eyebrow at him.

“Not the part where he’s top of the class, no. I mean how he gets there. You can’t imagine how many all-nighters the boy pulls during finals and he always pushes himself to get better. I mean it’s great that he’s improving but sometimes I wish he would allow himself a break.” He stiffened and gave a quick laugh. “I’m talking too much again, aren’t I. Sorry, this must be a weird first impression.”

Keith didn’t say anything for a while and chewed on his lower lip. “Is it really that bad? I mean… I haven’t noticed anything and finals are just around the corner right?” He thought back to the few times he’d seen Lance. He had always looked cheery and well… relaxed.

Hunk seemed to be pondering over his answer for a while. That’s when they heard the door behind them open slowly and Lance and Pidge slipped back into the room, Pidge holding a coffee cup in each hand. Hunk leaned over a bit and whispered just before the other two sat down. “Look at his eyes, he thinks we don’t notice…”

Keith had no idea what he meant by that and was staring at a spot on the floor absently when Lance waved his hand in front of his face to get him out of his trance. “Keith, buddy, my man. They’re about to start, don’t pass out on me now!”

Keith blushed a little and sat up straighter. “Yeah, sorry. Not passing out. Now, let’s see your space magic thing. Hope it’s as good as you made it sound.”

The boy next to him grinned from ear to ear. “Better.”

The crowd around them applauded loudly. Apparently the speech part was over and somebody dimmed the lights, making everyone go silent. It was now completely dark in the hall. Keith could feel his palms getting sweaty. Why was this taking so long? He swallowed hard.

He whispered, almost inaudible “Lance?” but in this exact moment they turned on the projectors and surprised ahhhhs and ohhhs could be heard through the entire room.

Keith threw his head back so quickly he almost hit it on his seat’s backrest.

Lance’s words hadn’t prepared him for what he was seeing now at all. It was truly just… beautiful. Thousands of little stars were dancing on the ceiling and the floor and just everywhere. He knew he was sitting in a boring lecture hall and he felt incredibly stupid for even thinking so but for a moment he really felt like he was in space. His heartbeat sped up and his eyes wander around the entire room so quickly he was almost getting sick.

Keith was trying to take it all in before it stopped. The stars danced around his fingertips as he raised his hand in front of his face and watched. He wasn’t even questioning how the whole thing worked it was just too… too everything. In a good way.

“Sooo, did I promise too much?” Lance suddenly whispered next to his ear.

Keith just shook his head and then turned it to smile at him. “No, you didn’t. This is great! Thanks for inviting me to this.” Lance smiled at him and then quickly turned his head to the ceiling again. Neither of them mentioned that it had actually been Hunk who invited Keith.

Keith was still staring at Lance’s face from the corner of his eyes, watching the stars being projected onto his skin and their reflections in his eyes. He looked so beautiful like this, it made Keith’s head spin. He wanted to say something, to tell Lance how pretty he was but he bit his tongue instead. Just friends he reminded himself.

That’s when he remembered Hunk’s words from earlier and looked at Lance’s eyes more closely. What was he supposed to see? The long eyelashes? The small freckles underneath them? The well blended but thick layer of… concealer? Something clicked in his brain. Hunk had mentioned that Lance wasn’t sleeping enough and pushing too hard. Of course he and many others were unable to tell if they didn’t know what to look for. Lance had covered up his dark circles almost perfectly. Almost… Keith turned his gaze to the ceiling again and frowned. Why was he pretending to be fine? It was normal to be tired around finals wasn’t it? Why was he trying to hide it?

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m afraid we have to end this now since our time is up,” a voice sounded from the front of the room. “Thank you all for coming and enjoy the rest of your day on campus.” They turned off the projectors and disappointment could be heard all around. Some classical song started to play and people started to shift but the lights were still out. Keith dug his nails into his palm and tried to breathe evenly. It’s fine, he tried to tell himself. They’re gonna turn them back on every second. Only they didn’t.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it appears we’re having some trouble back here. We’re sure everything will be fixed soon,” the voice echoed again. “Always a bit hard to find the light switch in the dark.” The voice said and gave a fake laugh. Some parents laughed as well. Keith didn’t. He gulped and pressed deeper into his seat.

He could feel Lance stir in the dark next to him and a hand touching his shoulder. “Keith? Are you okay?” Before Keith could even think of something to respond with the lights were finally turned back on. Keith let out a very deep breath he hadn’t noticed he was holding until now. He quickly unclenched his hands and turned his head to give Lance a small smile.

“All good, yes. I’m a bit sad it was over so quickly though.”

Lance looked at him questioningly for a second longer before he returned the smile. “Right? I wish they would do this more often!”

The group got up and headed out before the mass of people in the hall could block the aisles. The bright sunlight blinded Keith for a moment when they walked outside and he held up his helmet to shield his eyes. Someone walked into him from behind and he quickly turned around to apologize for stopping in the doorway but it was Lance he was looking at. An elderly woman complained about them being in her way and they stepped aside and walked a few feet to get away from the mass.

“Sorry for bumping into you,” Lance started, “It’s just,” he pointed at the helmet in Keith’s hand. “I didn’t notice before because I was so excited about the star thing but… did you bring your bike?” Hunk listened to their conversation and laughed looking at Lance now. Keith didn’t exactly understand what he thought was so funny and turned to Pidge for help but they were just quietly smiling at the whole scene.

“Ummm, yes? It’s how I got here. I don’t have a car, soo…” Keith shrugged a little lost.

“Awesome! I mean great. I mean...,” Lance scratched his head. “Can I see it?”

“Uhh, sure. I parked right over there.” Keith pointed over his shoulder. Lance didn’t even wait for the others. He was already on his way to the parking lot, almost running. When the others caught up with him he was inspecting Keith’s bike and admiring the details of the machine by almost touching it with his nose.

Hunk and Pidge seemed kind of impressed too and Hunk slapped Keith’s shoulder. “Sweet ride, Keith!” He joined Lance in walking around the bike to get a better look. “Lance mentioned you work at a workshop. Did you build this yourself?”

Keith nodded and then realised that Hunk wasn’t looking at him so he couldn’t see. “Yah, I did. It was the first project I did without Shiro’s help. Took me a while to find all the parts. I could get a better bike if I wanted but I’m kind of sentimental I guess.”

Lance nodded. “No I get it. It’s a bit like it’s your child, right? I mean… you made her.”

Keith smiled. “Yeah. I guess.”

Pidge gave a fake cough to get everyone’s attention and pointed at the bike. “If you’re finished drooling over that can we go get some food please?”

“That?” Keith repeated in a fake hurt tone.

“They’re secretly loving this more than Lance and me. You should see the stuff they build. We should visit you at your shop and just leave Pidge there for a few hours. They’d have the time of their life.” Hunk chuckled at the expression on Pidge’s face after his revelation.

 “Speaking of food though,” Lance looked at Keith and tilted his head, “We thought about grabbing a bite at Planet Altea. You in?”

Keith considered for a moment. He could spend some more time with them and get to know them better. He probably should. Shiro would tell him to… but he also really wanted to go home. The light incident had seriously freaked him out even if he didn’t want to show it. He’d rather calm down at home, alone, where he could stop pretending and no one would see what a mess he really was after such a small thing.

“Sorry, I need to leave. Shiro wants to visit an old friend of his and he’s dragging me along.” Lie. Shiro never dragged him anywhere Keith didn’t want to go. Apart of from that Shiro wasn’t even home right now.

Lance chewed his lower lip. “Ohh. Okay. We’ll text then?” The disappointed look on his face made Keith feel bad instantly.

“Yes definitely. It was really great. Thank you all for taking me.” Let me leave let me go.

Pidge and Hunk said goodbye and they watched Keith take off quickly. Lance waved one last time before he was out of sight, but Keith didn’t turn around to see it.

 Usually driving calmed him down but he felt himself get more anxious with every mile. He was glad he could finally take off the helmet when he arrived at his and Shiro’s place because he could breathe more freely instantly. He put the bike in the garage, unlocked the front door and took the elevator up to their floor. After hastily unlocking the front door and locking it after himself again, he immediately kicked off his boots and headed for his bedroom.  

He’d learned a few breathing techniques during his never ending counseling sessions and was really glad about that right now. After some minutes of leaning against his door he got his breathing under control. His thoughts however where still spinning, so he put his favourite playlist on shuffle and flopped down on his bed.

After a couple of songs Keith took out his phone to ask Shiro when he would be home and noticed he had gotten a few messages.

 (2:17pm): Hey, u ok?

(2:18pm): Getting kind of an anxious vibe over here?!

(2:20): Also thats an awful lot of emo music for someone who insists hes not emo ;)

 Shit. Sometimes he forgot the soulmate connection was a thing.

 (2:33pm): Sorry! Yes I’m good

There was an immediate response.

(2:33pm): U sure? Doesnt feel like it

(2:36pm): Maybe not

Keith’s whole body tensed. Was he ready for that? Should he lie, maybe say he was tired and wanted to nap or something? Should he tell the truth? He frowned.

Keith swallowed. Shiro probably wouldn’t be home for a while and he really needed to talk to someone. The question was if Lance was safe to talk to? Would it overstep the friendship line? Why could things never be easy…

So I went on CrueL-LTube to L-Look for bigger embroidery things, and I found someone weaving a tapestry! EspeciaLL-LLy when you start on a L-Loom made out of a curtain rod and warp strands L-Longer than you are taLL-LL! So I said, okay, I’LL-LL start smaLL-LLer, and I saw a video of someone making a L-LittL-Le hand L-Loom and tried that myseL-Lf. And then I just kept at it untiL-L I got good! =:-)

hi! i actually haven’t started any GD classes yet! i go to MassArt and our freshman year is called foundation year (which is like exploratory at voc-tech schools like i also went to) where we take basic art classes to get every1 on the same page/for ppl who dont know what they want yet. for a majority of art programs you will need to submit a portfolio of your work, there’ll likely be a required number of traditional drawings and then art pertaining to the field you want to go into. it differs for every school/program.

even though i havent start classes yet for GD, i can already say i love it. the department is super helpful and nice. i know a few ppl who have graduated from it and they all loved it. some tips from what i’ve experienced:

ok this got super long so i put it under a read more. 

 art school is way harder than u think. i went in from a media-related shop in high school with a lot of prior knowledge to programs and techniques and basic art skills. in some classes i was advanced and flew thru the work. in other classes i struggled and didnt know jack shit. i worked in front of a computer in adobe programs for 4 years i dont know how to mix plaster. i failed 1 class and dropped another. i failed form study which is pretty much just 3d sculptures and stuff. there’s gonna be ppl that are way better than you at stuff, and you cant get discouraged by it. especially in gd, where u use a little bit of everything. just keep trying to make u the best u can be.

art stuff is fucking expensive. my tip for this is save up and scour for coupons. blick is simultaneously the best and worst place in the world for artists bc: it has everything (like 98% of the time) u would ever need but ur not walking out without spending at least $80. they have sales and stuff constantly and they’re rewards program is bomb but art supplies are just generaly fucking expensive. the class i dropped was a painting elective 1st semester, the prof told us we weren’t allowed to buy the store brand paint we had to get a specific brand and we needed like 20 colors. the paints were like $15 each. thats $300 for paints that i will only use for that specific class and probably never touch. it literally wasnt worth it.(i hate painting) my orientation group leader literally told us to just steal pens and pencils where there arent cameras…shit’s rough

graphic design is hella complicated, it isnt just fuckin around in photoshop. some upperclassmen said that we might not even be allowed to use a computer our first year in the major. (that got me lil nervous ngl). there’s a lot of traditional art/different medias involved like drawing, painting (ugh), and 3d work (uGH), and photography. again, i havent even started and GD classes so i cant really say what its like bc its different for everyone and the field is so big that there’s tons of different things you can hone in on. from what it looks like to me is there’s a little bit of everything.

x-acto knives are ur best friends. this is dead serious you literally need them for e v e r y t h i n g. and then u get like, addicted to using them for trivial things like opening a bag of chips or cutting strings off clothes

this may not have been the most organized thing in the world but i hope it helped a bit. feel free to ask me about GD and what im doing once classes start again/after the 1st semester. or even just ask me about art school in general! i literally fucking love it and i love talking about it so humor me. i move back in sept 3 and im super excited :)

ok so i was driving my brothers car and i have my g1 i went to money mart and back home about an hour later police came knocking on my door asking if my brother was in a car accident so we went down to the station and the officer asked if i was driving his car i said yes , he then said that the other man that was sitting in the station got my plates and said i hit his car and cracked his bumper (very minor crack) so i said no and then officer assumed i was lying and made me write up an accident report. after when i was leaving the station the other guy asked if we could solving this without going through insurance so we exchanged numbers (their was no damage at all to my brothers car & no paint or anything on their car to prove i hit it) the next day they called and said the want a whole new bumper they dont want it patched up and they would get me a price quote they then got me a quote for $1475 for a while new bumper from ford i told them im not paying that much the only way im replacing the bumper is if my mechanic does it he said ok so i went to my mechanic told him the whole situation and he said i shouldnt be replacing the whole bumper for somthing that small but he still ordered the bumper for me i had to put a $400 down payment for the bumper and $300 after its put on. the bumper came in 2 days later and they brought their car for it to be put on when we got there they got pissed off and said this isnt a bumper straight from ford and they dont want it and left ( the bumper was brand new for the same model car and had the exact paint coat match just that it wasnt from ford) they then call me threating to take it through insurance if we dont get it from ford so i lost the $400 down payment for the bumper because they cant return it after its painted so i told my mechanic to order it from ford. but when he called for they said the dont have bumpers for that model anymore, i then call the people back and told them to take it through insurance because my mechanic cant get that bumper. Ok about 3 weeks ago I was rear ended while my car was stopped on the freeway. The guy hit me doing about 30mph. I have had back and neck problems ever since. She got into an accident the other day; everyone's okay and it hasn't been determined who was at fault yet.
