I thought after making a collection of the few Mizrak fics I have written, I could also make a little list of the fics I have written for my absolute OTP in Castlevania: Isaactor. Those two deserve my love. And while almost all my Mizrox stuff is smutty, this is not true for my Isaactor stories.

Carmilla gets a little snarky in this scene, saying 'the Castle moves around' and that's part of her excuse on why she arrived so late after being summoned.

Aside from the fact it's funny Dracula didn't call her out on her bullshit by pointing out the Asian vampires Cho, Raman, and Sharma definitely had a much longer journey, it does raise the question: Why didn't Dracula just use the Castle to pick up his Generals in the ultimate carpool?

Isaac from Castlevania has such a wonderful character arc through all four seasons and I fucking adore him.

This is a man who goes from being willing to commit to the destruction of humanity, to someone who wants to create futures for people. Isaac looked doomerism in the eye and decided he wanted to try hope instead.

He's also one of the few characters who saw Varney and decided he wanted none of it.

We know that since the twins were 17/18 in the first book they had to decide if they were to leave or stay in elfhame. And to stay they either had to have a skill or marry a fairy. I will say this makes Taryns desperation to be with Locke understandable (and why I hate the Gancanagh cop out). He was probably the only fairy who showed interest in Taryn AND he was part of the gentry. She had no in laws to worry about and he was an ‘only child’. On paper he reads like the perfect bachelor for someone who wants to get married fast. Also we can tell that most fairies tolerate humans in the High Court at best, but none of the gentry would actually marry one. Madoc was the exception and no one at court will forget how his human bride betrayed him. Who would want to risk that happening to them?

Now as for skills? No one at court would want a human beating them at anything. It’s what made Jude gunning for knighthood so important. I doubt Taryn would be accepted for having good embroidery or sewing skills since she can’t make a dress of out spider silk in 5 seconds like a fairy can. Be a forge master like her dad? Interesting AU but no Madoc and Oriana focused on court manners, dancing, and fencing. Taryn was working with what she had and what she learned from the fairies around her is that screwing people over is what you do. Everyone in the book is terrible. I do wish the twins had confided in one another more.

The Locke incident was fucked up and cut and dry like the whole fandom can agree damn that was messed up but it’s elfhame, thems the breaks ya know. Jude and Taryn spend the books screwing people over. It just sucks Taryn was doing it to Jude. BUT as for TWK, it’s from Jude’s POV. So we don’t know what information Madoc was telling Taryn that would make her agree to impersonate Jude. Also the twins still aren’t confiding in one another. Trust is murky and Jude is busy with seneschal duties so Taryn is on the back burner of her mind. Jude has no idea what’s being talked about at Madocs dinner table. From Taryns POV and everyone else, Cardan was a shitty king. They don’t know him like Jude does.

About Forgemasters

Something that I have to wonder about the forgemasters in the Castlevania series is... how do forgemasters work? How do they learn? What is needed to learn?

We do not get much in terms of information on this. We know that vampires cannot forge. Because only human hands can reach into hell. Which is also the reason why Varney/Death need St. Germain to do the entire "bring back Dracula" thing.

But... Why are there not more forgemasters?

We get to know three of them. Hector, Isaac and Miranda. We know that Hector knows magic outside of forging. We do now know whether Isaac knows any of that. Miranda seems to have some other magic, though? Hard to say, given she has one scene.

And on one hand: Sure, we have established that the church is doing some witchhunts. Which is fair enough given that it definitely is around the historical times that the witch hunts started. But... that's the thing: They only started around that time. So it should not be that all the magicians are dead - including the forgemasters.

Of course... If we look at historical things we also know that anyone working with the dead was considered an outcast. So maybe the mixture of "clearly dark magic" (which was not punishable by death but outlawed) and "dark magic involving the dead" kept a lot of people away from it...

But not so many that there are only three forgemasters on the entire continent, right?

There might be a chance that the knowledge is rare... But that is something I do not buy. Because Isaac has the knowledge. Sure, Hector's father was an alchemist so Hector having had access to a book about forging? Fine, whatever. But Isaac who was a runaway slave?!

How can it be rare and yet accessible to a runaway slave/street kid?

Which makes me think that the reason might be another one. That the issue is not the accessibility of the knowledge but actually something else you need to master it.

What if... only people with big trauma can actually learn how to forge? Because it clearly is what ties Hector and Isaac together - being abused as children. And what if that... is somehow a prerequisite for mastering the skill?

Just a thought.
