Ahh where to start! I love the way you write about (and photograph, sometimes!) your baking, which really helped me with my confidence about my own quite a number of years ago, and I love marveling at your fiber arts, and I love most of all having known you on here for solidly upwards of 10 years now, traumablogging together in parallel back when we were both at a very different point in our lives. So very glad to still be in it together now.

junk journal quilt!

i bought every charm pack with textual elements i could find off fatquartershop.com to make a full-size junk journal quilt. extra squares to get it up to size were added in from botanical and natural history type prints.

in structure it's an extremely straightforward patchwork, not even set on point: the appeal is entirely due to careful arrangement of beautiful prints. it really proves that you don't need more than the basics to make a gorgeous quilt if you've got a good enough idea! anyway, because i used a cheap ikea duvet insert instead of batting, the top and bottom sheets were loose and inclined to get wrinkles sewn into the stitching. so i did an inch of zig-zag stitch back and forth at every fourpatch intersection to keep the loft loose and fluffy but the patchwork nicely secure. the hems are very casually folded over and topstitched with straight and zigzag stitching, which gives it a very scribbly sort of finish.

this is the most expensive quilt ive done in awhile because i bought so many new fabrics for it, but it's my favorite one yet. it was my holiday gift to myself and i regret nothing.

piecing the quilt is going so well !! i have to do some research on the actual quilting bit* and make a decision about the backing fabric** and hope my thumbs last the distance

I’ve never done anything like this but I think it might be appliqué, that is, irregular pieces layered and stitched down over the top rather than traditionally seamed. @fourpatch knows a heck of a lot more about quilts though, maybe she could make a better educated guess.

so the tragic news: i lost my favorite hat (the one i knit from the leftover yarn that i used to make the cabled cardigan that @fourpatch designed for btweed a bazillion years ago) while ice climbing on monday. the good news: i still have two fucked-up sleeves worth of the same yarn, so i can remake it (stronger, faster, better than before). the annoying news: i can't remember which size needles i used for it, and i deleted my blog during the time i was knitting it, so i can't go back and check. alas... we move forward.

i am a johnny-come-lately to the greatness of john wick and just saw the first one for the first time last weekend (LOVED IT). and i have a question for you as a john wick devotee! is having seen the second one a prerequisite for enjoying the third? or is it practicable to just go ahead and see the third one immediately and be overjoyed by it in its own right?

if you’ve seen the first one then absolutely – the only thing you need to know is that at the end of the second movie John killed a guy in the Continental and in one hour he will have a huge bounty put on his head and become the target of every assassin in, like, everywhere (and apparently there��s a lot of those fuckers so he’s in for a time)

plus, you’re gonna wanna see this in theaters while you can. it’s so fuckin insane, man, it demands a big screen

also I am inordinately proud to be called a John Wick Devotee
