Transcript:
To be frank, like- that’s so silly. To be honest, I didn't know if I was going to actually be able to play again and it was really- it was nerve wracking. But it wasn't something I ever would let myself say out loud because you know, it's really scary. And not to get like super serious, but I told the doctor like, you know, like, listen on these surgeries, like I had to have two surgeries, like if you think that I'm not gonna be able to play again, just leave me on the table because there's no fucking point in waking me up. Like I can't not play like I have to and if you're not the right guy for it, like let me know like, whatever I need to do, like we need to find someone that could get me back to playing. It was a real serious break. Like everything exploded basically in that fucking wrist.

I think it's fascinating that the quotes:
"Have you forgotten sir, we were at war? A fight with an alien race for the very survival of our species. I feel I must remind you that it is an undeniable, and may I say fundamental quality of man, that when faced with extinction, every alternative is preferable."
"When you spend every day fighting a war, you to demonize your attackers. To you, they're evil, they're subhuman. Because if they weren't, what would that make you? What I'm trying to say... is I've been afraid to see you for what you really are. You're our brothers. Our sisters. And the things we've done to one another are unforgivable."
"These guys want to use us, take us away from our families, and send us all over the dad-gum galaxy just to test if their agents are ready for the big fight? Well... guess I'm interested in showin' em exactly what a big fight is all about! So I'm not ordering you to go. I ain't even asking. You do what you gotta do, Private."
came from the same series whose standard fare is lines like:
"What in the hell are you two doing?" / "We're being executed by our own men, sir." / "Cut it out."
"I only drink the blood of my enemies, and the occasional strawberry yoohoo."
"You always said I could sleep when I’m dead, Sarge, and guess what? I am dead. This purgatory is about to become purga-snore-y, yawn!"
...and both categories manage to be a poignant statement about the nature of war and what it does to the people in it.

Hi. I saw your requests were open and wanted to see if i could ask for one so here goes nothing.
I have an idea thats been bouncing around in my brain for the past three days. I was wondering if you could write a story with the whole cast of welcome home. Basically reader is the neighbourhood doctor and is the one everyone goes to when they rip or tear. The reader has special sheets of felt and fabric that match the felt colour of every neighbour.
One day, Wally needs a patch after an accident, and the reader realises that they don't have any yellow felt left, and starts to panic thinking wally is going to be upset. Wally comforts them and they decide to make a nice colourful patch using some scraps they had.
Next thing they know, all the nieghbours want to replace their old patches for pretty coloured ones. What colours do you think they would want?
Thank you for at least reading this dumb idea.
Headcanons - What Colour Patches They Would Want
Hi! Cute idea! I'll just be making quick headcanons for this since I'm not quite in the mood to write a whole thing. Thanks for your patience in me getting this done!
Also, I don't remember if I already did but I'll be removing word counts from headcanon posts because they're just gonna be short. It's too much of a hassle.
Type: Headcanons, platonic
Tw: Injury, stitches/stitching/puppet repairing(?), food
Tumblr media
Wally takes whatever scraps there are. He doesn't really care what it looks like, so long as it's colourful. Maybe he'd just go with the same sort of fabric as his pants to keep it in style with his wardrobe.
Julie wants flowers, of course! Daisies, tulips, sunflowers, roses...The possibilities are endless! Maybe with a green background so it looks like grass. That, or she'd like something with rainbows.
Sally wants something simple, yet elegant. A simple repeating pattern would be lovely. Maybe it's cut in the shape of a star? Or, if you're up for it, a star shape using one fabric with other fabrics for the trail! Red would be her colour of choice.
Frank would like something bug themed. Surely you have something of that, right? Maybe some beetles or butterflies--or both! He probably gt the injury from bug hunting, too!
Eddie would like a classic pattern like hearts or clouds. A bit symbolic of him, really; he's a lover, not a fighter, and he's always got his head up in the clouds. He'd also like his fabric cut in a heart shape, too. Or one of those people-shaped chains!
Howdy wants anything except a plain colour. Stripes to match his uniform? How fitting for his store aesthetic! Some of his products? He's a walking advertisement! Just don't make it boring.
Barnaby Complete opposite to Howdy. He just wants a nice plain colour--unless you have polka-dots. Then maybe (definitely) he'd settle for that. But otherwise, he doesn't care for fancy patterns. Just give him a nice shade of blue.
Poppy is far too indecisive to choose a pattern for herself. It becomes up to the rest of the neighbourhood to pick one for her! Eventually, she probably settles on a pattern of some eggs or some baked goods.

“I need someone to understand me,” she says, as plainly as she can. “And you’re smart, but you’re not so smart that your head’s up your ass about it, so you can actually listen without going off on a tangent about where I can learn more about this shit.” “You can just say Gale, darling, he can’t hear us,” Astarion says after a beat, and she snorts at him.

Welcome Home x Reader - A Whole New World (and New Friends Too!)
Part 1
Hi!! I'm so happy to see you guys liked the first part to this. This one should focus more on the relationships between the reader and the characters, and is less story based and more headcanon-y. I'd be happy to make a part 3, but I'd need your guys' ideas! Either way, I hope you enjoy!
And now introducing; coloured text! Let's hope the editor doesn't mess it up.

Those first few hours in Home had been weird ones. Eventually things started to settle down in the trust department, but then they started up in the homesickness one. Once it finally settled in that you as of then had no way to go back home, you were distraught. What about your friends and family? How would they cope with you going missing? Would someone be blamed? How would you cope with never seeing them again?
It all ended in a lot of crying and comforting. It felt like it went on for hours (and it probably did). You were bawling your eyes out as the puppets attempted to comfort you with different things. But at that moment the only thing that could calm you down was something from your world. Photos, a stuffed toy - anything! You needed something you could latch onto.
Eventually, though, the crying subsided. Your poor tear ducts were all worn out; there were no tears left to cry. All that sobbing had tired you out too; you were on the verge of falling asleep once you stopped. And it wouldn't be hard to, what with you in Poppy's bed and latched onto Barnaby's arm.
The next day was more focused on adjusting to your new life. Poppy had sized you up to make some new clothes, taking in all the descriptions of your favourite outfits. Barnaby had walked you to Howdy's bodega (or 'bugdega', as Barnaby called it) to get some supplies for your new stay. While you were there, the two of them tried to cheer you up with some more jokes, which worked a little.
Wally had walked you around town, introducing you to all the places. He also introduced you to one final neighbour, so to speak. Home, a literal house, was considered the ninth neighbour of its town with the same name. Being a house, it couldn't speak, though it tried to communicate with different noises. It sounded somewhat like those obviously fake ghost shows you saw on television.
What really weirded you out about home though was its eyes. At first you thought it was something weird but similar to the Mona Lisa. But the way Wally introduced you to it (in a "Home, this is [Name]. [Name], this is home" fashion) you knew this was no ordinary house. You walked over to the opposite side of Wally and yep, its eyes were definitely following you.
But then what really freaked you out was when Wally walked up to the door (which you assumed was Home's mouth) and opened it to reveal a real house inside. Now, what was going on with that?
Wally welcomed you inside with a reassuring smile on his face. The inside of the house looked how you expected; lots of colour spread across a very old-fashioned room. The ceiling was a bit low compared to the outside, but you were willing to overlook it. What surprised you, however, was when you went to open a drawer only for the drawer to open for you.
Now, your first thought was the house must be automatic. After all, at home those were really coming into fashion. But then you remembered this wasn't home, it was Home. Home with a capital 'H'. Wally noticed your confusion and laughed.
"Ha, ha, ha, did you forget who this house is already, neighbour?" he smiled. "Home's just being friendly."
Right. The house is alive. Forgot about that.
Wally had then sent you off to visit Julie. Apparently, there was some 'very important Julie business' going on that you ought to investigate. Walking over, you were greeted by Sally, who quickly turned you around so you were facing the outside.
"Sally, what are you-" Sally shushed you before you could finish your sentence.
"I need you to close your eyes," she said.
You were stunned. "W-what?"
"Just do it!"
Did you really trust these puppets. Could you trust these puppets? Surely if they wanted to hurt you, they already would have done it, or was this part of the game? You took a few moments to think about it. Looking down at Sally, though, you got a gut feeling everything was going to be alright.
You covered your eyes with one hand and let Sally lead you by the other. She was a little fast and you bumped into a few of what you assumed were furniture, but eventually she shuffled you over and let you go. You could hear someone giggling and someone else shushing them.
"Okay, open your eyes," Sally said. Doing so, you were greeted with the sight of all the puppets standing in Julie's living room. Behind them, the couch cushions had been removed and moved to make walls, a roof, and- hold on, was that a pillow fort?
"Tada!" the group cheered. You covered your mouth with your hand to try and hide the smile that crossed your face; the first smile you had since you got there. Eventually, you let your hand fall, allowing everyone to see just how happy you were.
They urged you to take a closer look, and you did. Inside, the fort was covered in cushions and blankets. A small teddy bear sat in the corner and a few books were piled up. You turned to face everyone and wiped a small tear from your eye.
"I, um, thank you," you said. "You didn't have to do this."
"We couldn't leave you out in the cold!" Poppy replied. "I don't want to imagine what would happen if you had nowhere to sleep. And my best is made for birds; you can't sleep in a bird bed! Who knows what would happen!"
"And it'll be fun!" Julie exclaimed. "Think of all the games we could play!"
"And you'll always have someone here with you," Eddie added.
There was a knock on the door. Inside walked Wally, asking, "do they like it?"
"You were in on this?" you asked him.
Wally nodded. "I had to keep you distracted."
Time passed, celebrations happened, and over time you began to feel more comfortable in this new world. Sleeping on Julie's couch wasn't that bad, considering it was like the Mother Bear's bed from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Once after playing Chase the Mailman with Eddie and Barnaby you fell onto the couch and thought you were passing out. Probably didn't help that you couldn't see anything because of the cubby house walls and roof.
Speaking of games, you join in on lots of the group's activities. If we were talking about it like it was the television show, you wouldn't be a main character, but you wouldn't be stuck in the bodega like Howdy. You'd be... A middle level character, so to speak. Episodes would certainly feature you a lot - playing games with the other characters, talking about your world and teaching the characters things they couldn't learn otherwise and so on.
But there are also times when you just need some time alone. Some time away from Julie, even. Despite being your housemate and (very likely) best friend (though that is up to you, dear reader), she can be a bit much at times. Julie is very empathetic and kind, but every now and again you just need to get away from it. To be alone with your thoughts and memories; maybe to cry a little.
To help bring you comfort during these times, Eddie and Poppy got together to create a stuffed animal toy for you, with everyone's help, of course. Frank really wanted to make the animal an insect of some kind, saying they're 'better than the rest, they're simply the best!' But the group ended up settling on a simple teddy bear.
Eddie did most of the work while Poppy guided him through it - she was too afraid to touch the needles. Sally drew lots of ideas for costumes the bear could wear, Barnaby helped in choosing patterns, and Wally chose the colours. Howdy supplied the materials free of charge; this was a gift from them to you, after all. And Julie made a very small and pretty flower crown!
The group had left the bear at the doorstep to your house (which also served as the doorstep to your room, the lounge). Knocking on the door, they scurried away to behind the wall to wait for you to pick it up. You eventually did, though it was obvious you had been crying a bit. Once you saw the bear, though, a bright smile widened across your tear-stained cheeks and you picked the bear up, pulling it into a great hug... Only to notice Sally giggling and seeing the group for a split-second peering from behind the wall. Their eyes widened and they swiftly ducked back to hide themselves. You chuckled and went back inside.
Now, my dear reader, I'm running out of brain power, so allow me to simply list off some things you guys do together.
Painting with Wally. You two serve as each other's muse and swap paintings once you both finish. Wally puts a lot of effort into his paintings of you - he wants you to feel special!
Practicing lines with Sally. If you're up for it, she loves to cast you a major role in the story. She also lets you help a teensy bit with the actual planning! Though most of that still goes to her, though. Such a director cannot have her ideas tainted by the mundanity of others!
Speaking of theatre, you practice tricks with Barnaby! These are often for Sally's plays. He tries to help you balance on his giant bouncy ball, though not without a lot of falling and worried words from Poppy. You two end up sticking to less injury-inducing tricks instead, like telling amazing jokes!
Flower picking with Julie. According to the website (which had become very fuzzy in your memory at that point), Julie can talk to flowers to make them bloom. You're absolutely fascinated by this, and Julie loves to bring you joy by presenting you with a gift of freshly picked flowers!
Baking with Poppy. You do most of the actual work, but Poppy has an incredible collection of ingredients and equipment you didn't even know could exist. It was almost Dr Suess level of strange, complete with a rainbow of colours. But the result does taste very good.
Bug catching with Frank. You help him with climbing up certain trees and patch him up when he falls into a bush. In return, he teaches you all about the wildlife in the forest surrounding home. You get to go up close and personal with all the little critters, if you so wish. Otherwise, Frank's happy to be the one to be staring at them. But don't worry, all the bugs in Home are very cute and very friendly!
Arts and crafts with Eddie. This loveable mailman is always ready for a little bit of arts and crafts with anyone. The puppet canonically uses school glue as hair gel, so he's always got supplies on hand. He also leaves you lovely letters when you're feeling homesick, and you do the same.
Running errands with Howdy. This shopkeeper has a lot to do, and you're just the perfect person for the job! Being a human and not a puppet, you're a lot stronger than the others, so you're a great help for getting some particularly heavy packages around (though Eddie's always ready to help if you need it). In return, Howdy's always there to lend a hand - or four! This caterpillar is always there to help you out with a smile (and a discount, too!).
Spring cleaning with Home. It's always good to be able to clean sometimes. It can make you feel so refreshed! And what better place to clean than Home, our loveable house? Home really appreciates it, and rewards you with a hug of the curtain and an open ear for listening. Or window... I'm not sure how it can hear.
Want a part 3? Suggest some ideas! I may use them (with credit)!
