rereading the soule daredevil run, and in the “purple” story, matt reveals that the worst thing he could ever do would be… to do nothing in the face of chaos and tragedy.

this is why he breaks when frank makes him confront foggy’s death. he did the worst thing he could fathom: nothing.

You literally cannot look at any of Matt's reaction, micro and/or macro, when it comes his relations with people without at least getting 3 layers (never even less) of things going on implied from within him.

His current girlfriend (who's a therapist but not his therapist, like, of course) is asking him if he can help her interview a vigilante who was his client, for work purposes. (Probably THE worst client Matt's ever taken, understandably so.) A maskless mass murderer he's so against when it comes to methods of fighting for justice, no less. Also the one man who could make him all emotional and cry like a Goddamn baby without even ANYONE knowing, and it's not just once, mind you, but twice - even though they've only known each other less than, what, a year? Maybe a couple of years at this point, give or take? We're laughing. We all laugh because, in this moment, thinking about Frank means he's back with Foggy again. Thinking about Frank means he'll be thinking about their fucked up fight about the people they lost, always... And Foggy and Frank would be laughing, too; what she's asking is ridiculous. Matt knows both of those. Because other than Foggy, though Matt might still be denying here, Frank is the only one who understands him. Because Frank Castle has made him expressively vulnerable twice, and he can precisely predict the cursing and cussing out from the guy if he was him, being asked to be interviewed about the one thing that should never, EVER, be talked about out loud. The most unfair thing, especially if it's a stranger asking; who has never gone through what they've gone through to be who they are. We're still laughing, by the way, because, at the same time, yeah, sure, wouldn't it be fun to piss Frank off just one more time?
