Do you have any theories or ideas for the parents of Edgar, Nassor, Toshiaki, and Weird Girl?

Edgar: I feel like his parents don’t really go out in public much. They’re very secretive and mysterious but they allow their young boy to go out due to his curiosity and love for making new friends. His father was once a great assistant to Victor’s great grandfather but after a mysterious and unexpected event, his grandfather was never seen or heard from again. His lab still sits there, wasting away but Edgar’s dad still likes to visit and study upon his great works. His mother usually stays at home, the only reason his father goes to the lab is because it’s somewheres hidden so you can’t really see him sneak into it.

Nassor: His mother is a stay at home wife. She likes to bake and clean like Victor’s mother. Her favorite hobbies include reading, gardening, and going to hang out with the other mothers in town. Nassor’s father is a hard worker at his job. He leaves every morning at around 8:30 and returns at 6:00 in the evening. His family is very rich but they’re also very kind and gentle people. He occasionally talks to the other dads in town but he mostly likes to work alone.

Toshiaki: Toshiaki’s parents are very smart and kind hearted people. Toshiaki also has a little sister named Muki. Toshiaki’s mother used to volunteer at Toshi’s old school back in Japan. Toshi’s dad thought that it would be a better idea if they all moved to America and learned English. Toshiaki was very open to the idea of exploring and learning in a new place. Ever since, Toshiaki’s mother has also been a stay at home mom and his dad worked at a local hospital.

Weird Girl: Her mother isn’t a psychiatrist but she’s open to help anyone in town who needs to talk, especially her daughter. Her mother finds it very normal for Cynthia to think that her cat can tell the future because when she was her age, she had a black cat that could do the same thing. Her dad doesn’t have a job, he just goes around town doing work for anyone who is willing to pay him. Cynthia has a very close bond with her father but an even closer one with her mother.

In the spirit of Halloween, it's favorite horror/spooky/Halloween special movie headcanons for the MadCom + Mandela funkers (Including some OCs because I feel the need to)

Starting with MadCom:

2BDamned/Doc !!

I feel like his favorite movie would be something like Frankenweenie or TNBC, his favorite characters being Victor and Finklestein of course. Silly Frankenstein makers y'know.

Hank J. Wimbleton !!

Probably a slasher film like Friday the 13th, he'd root for the villains though, obviously. They wouldn't even flinch at any of the jump scares, it'd just be a happy lil' film for them. But don't let that fool you, he would definitely snuggle up close to Doc on the couch with a nice blanket n' get comfy.

Deimos !! + Tricky (?)

I'm going to be blunt here. The SpongeBob SquarePants Halloween specials. They would fucking love those. I'd like to think it's one of the one things they'd get along with. They'd sit down on Doc's carpet shoveling candy in their mouths with Sanford, watching the screen quite intently. Tricky would probably lay on its stomach on the carpet and kick his feet like a child, but everyone would be happy watching that silly little cartoon together. Even if it was a bit boring for everyone but Dei n' Trickster.

Sanford (mentioning Deimos again for this one)

I think Sanford would enjoy subtle horror much more. So, he and Deimos would stay up after everyone goes to sleep, quietly looking through obscure horror videos on YouTube on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a few sodas, mostly Dr. Peppers and cherry colas. Just enjoying their quiet time together, cuddling in the dim living room, (a probably stolen) dimmed tablet being some of the only light keeping them awake. I don't think Dei would handle jump scares very well, so he'd end up snuggling up close to Sanford and falling asleep not too much later.

No. Horror is a big, fat "No" from him.

Stygian, Conductor, Deliberator, and the Auditor.

They all love watching low budget horror films and laughing at the cheap scares the creators tried to pull. All in all, there's not much that'll scare them in those, but they still have fun watching them anyways, especially since it serves as a nice break for all of them.

Church + Jorge

They don't quite *understand* horror media. In fact, it's like showing The Conjuring to a toddler. They'd be paranoid for a while, which is quite hilarious for G0L3Ms like them.

Burger Gil + Dr. Skinner

They watched Night of the Living Dead on a small projector in the break room on Gil's break probably, so now it's a comfort movie for both of them, now that Nevada is practically its own form of hell. They probably crack jokes at the fact that they're both "the living dead" in their own right, along with most of Nevada's population.

Phobos + Dr. C. (for reference, his name is Corvis in my AU !! c: )

Phobos was never quite a fan of horror, actually he found it boring and cheesy. But the director never really was a fan of much o' anything in reality, he was too interested in achieving his godhood or whatever his twisted mind was set on with Project Nexus at his disposal. But when Corvis showed him some of chirp's favorite movies, he couldn't help but adore them. The simplicity that seemed to make his little love bird so happy. Something that ViVi was so infatuated with that it was almost as high on feather's list of things he held dear as the director himself was, that his room was full of movie posters and memorabilia. It was such an insignificant thing in Nevada's vast ruins and dusty plains, but it made Cor' happy. So, it made that demented man just a bit happier himself.

Jebus/Jebediah

He loves all of the classics, honestly. (Because he's old.) They make him feel more comforted and nostalgic, which puts him in a nicer mood when he needs a pick-me-up.

They fucking love Halloween specials and horror of any kind. They probably watched a lot of low budget movies with the Auditor, trying to stay on his good side after many misdemeanors against its agency. But they definitely have more fond memories of watching movies with their work partner.

Alternate Cesar however, Honestly, I doubt it has many opinions on horror movies. They just think it's pathetic that humans are scared by those things and their cheap scare tactics.

Horror movies...yeesh...he doesn't handle those well. Even if they aren't made that well, they tend to make his paranoia run wild so he'd rather avoid them. Cesar definitely tried to stay up to watch horror movies with him at a sleepover when they were kids, only for him to hide under his blankets and, honestly - probably cry about it. He is, in fact, not a horror fan.

In slight defense of Tim Burton's carelessness Disclaimer: I am NOT justifying cultural erasure or lack of representation. I am simply stating here that I do not think it was done out of malicious intention. "Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity."

Last November I saw a LOT of accusations that Tim Burton is racist "because one of the bullies was black" in Wednesday. This particular accusation was easy to debunk if you actually watch the show.

Yes, Tim Burton had a bad habit of not casting enough black actors in the past (even though he was the first person to have a black Harvey Dent in Batman and the only good police officer character in Edward Scissorhands was also black). But I think he learned his lesson.

In Wednesday, Bianca the Siren turns out to be a protagonist and loyal ally to Wednesday. She was just a rival in the dueling class. And Eugene was of mixed racial background and he's definitely a positively portrayed character.

The one character who was part of the antagonists realized his behavior was wrong in the end, he wasn't portrayed that way because he's black, he was portrayed that way because he's human.

Now we come to the new reason to rage against Tim Burton- people noticing that Corpse Bride was based on a Jewish folktale but no one seems to be Jewish in the stop motion animated film.

I don't think Tim Burton is consciously antisemetic with the erasure of the cultural origin of Corpse Bride as a Hebrew folktale. I think it's hyperbolic to say that it is antisemitism.

Danny Elfman is Jewish and Danny Elfman is Tim Burton's favorite composer to work with and the singing voice of Jack Skellington, and Barrel in Nightmare before Christmas, and he played Bonejangles in Corpse Bride (Remains of the Day song number).

Martin Landau, another actor Tim Burton liked to work with in both Ed Wood and Frankenweenie (stop motion version) was Jewish.

Helena Bonham Carter (Voice of the Corpse Bride and mother of Tim Burton's child) is Jewish. With Corpse Bride, I think it was just carelessness, not a conscious effort at cultural erasure.

Sometimes Tim Burton's thought processes can seem very child-like. It's not malice.

Finally, based on how Pastor Galswells (Christopher Lee) was portrayed in Corpse Bride, it might have been viewed as antisemetic if a character like that had been a Rabbi instead. He wasn't that likable of a character.

Since Helena Bomham Carter voiced Emily I headcanon that Emily (The Corpse Bride) is Jewish. It's not explicitly said in the film but it's not denied either.

I just don't think Tim Burton is deliberately antisemetic. We're talking about someone who snuck in positive Wiccan representation in Sleepy Hollow after all.

Yandere Nassor Headcannons

Romance wasn’t the first thing on Nassor’s mind. He finds it ludicrous to even think about something as fleeting as ‘love’. It wasn’t the first thing in his mind to begin with.

That is until you began to spoke to him that his fascination with you started.

The both of you had to work together for a group project and you actually go out of your way to spend some time with him after you finish it. At first he declined since he’s more of a loner but you still stuck around.

For some reason, you managed to wriggle into a place in his cold heart. As time passes, he finds it comforting to be with you.

Now whenever you two would meet, his icy heart began to warm up because you thawed it.

Nassor realised… he wanted to know more about you.

It took him a long time to realise that he likes, no… he loves you.

But there’s one problem. He doesn’t know how to confess to you. For someone confrontational, he’s very awkward with his own feelings.

He’d even go as far as to say he’s socially awkward.

I would say he’s an obsessive, stalker type yandere. Cuz have you seen how he waits outside the school until Edgar comes out so he can creep up on him? If that isn’t stalker-ish, I don’t know what is.

What does he do instead? He started to listen in on your conversations with your friends, follow you wherever you go especially to your house but he didn’t look through your windows…yet.

He still remains calm on the outside of course, but Nassor’s always looking at you. His eyes are always watching you and whatever you do.

Nassor grew to dislike anyone who’s close to you. He’s secretly jealous that whatever friends you have has a closer bond to you than him. Whenever he sees you talking to your friends, he’d give them the silent death glare from afar. He wouldn’t want anyone to notice, would he?

Interestingly, he takes down notes about you, especially the little details such as your hobbies, your likes and dislikes, your favourite things, basically just everything about you. He believes he can use it to his advantage one day.

You and Nassor would still stay on good terms and he may ever not show his true feelings towards you but he knows very well that his love towards you is real and it’s very strong.

I’m not gonna elaborate on what would happen if Nassor finds out you have a crush on someone else cuz that’s a story for another time.

My personal headcanon is that Nassor joins the swim team in high school cuz I think he's quite athletic himself

I remember someone talking about this once before. Nassor joining the swim team is a great thing to have him do because of his upper body strength. I feel like there would be an all boys team and Nassor would be the captain of it all. He’d win every competition and everyone would cheer for him, even his mom. She’d come to every game no doubt. XD I think that no matter how much he won and had people cheering for him, he would still have the same face expression through it all lol.

I finally worked on the design of Toshiaki’s family!! I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and despite having specific ideas, I never took the time to piece it together and was frankly intimidated about how to make it more concrete. Big shout-out to @master-of-the-opera-house for providing me with so many good ideas and very important guidance on how to handle this!! ily ily

I still choose to not create first names for parents since the movie doesn’t do that. Nonetheless, here are the parents of the Kurosawa family! ✨

🌗 | Toshiaki’s father

Japanese | Profession: salaryman

Born and raised in Japan, he joined a thriving company during the Japanese economic miracle era after marrying his wife. The company had extended overseas, most notably the US where he was promoted to a better job opportunity. He made the choice to move to New Holland when Toshiaki was four years old. Toshiaki’s father is not regularly at home. Demanding and taciturn, he is far from invisible as a parental figure in the household, despite his general absence. He seems to leave most of the parental work to his wife, and tends to get absorbed by work quite oftenly - to the point of either not being at home, or being at home but in his office.

Mr Kurosawa wants the best for his family, and while he is conscient of the issue of integration for his children, he tends to assume that they will eventually settle in without looking towards the potential struggles that his children would face in a new country. He has great expectations for Toshiaki and Mei, but he keeps a stern facade that conceals his contentment on how “well” things are going (from what he’s seeing, that is).

🌓 | Toshiaki’s mother

Japanese | Profession: redactor and editor

Born in Japan, she was indirectly impacted by Little Boy’s repercussions. Her father was a hibakusha. She married her husband after setting in a redactional job, before having Toshiaki as her first child. She faced a lot of reticence from her family about moving overseas, but she decided to leave Japan in hopes of having a more stable lifestyle and mental health. After moving to New Holland, she found a job as a redactor for a finances journal, and had Mei shortly after.

Despite her strict and snappy demeanor with Toshiaki, it is evident that she loves her children very much and would do anything for their comfort. Deep down, she strives to save them from what she faced as a child - we do not talk about the events of the war at home, and it’s generally an unspoken rule to keep risky questions to ourselves. She is overly strict about having the best grades and ensuring the best academic career, as she considers her own academic path to be the result of hard work and luck that she wants to extend to her children. Mrs Kurosawa always keeps a cool and collected facade to the outside world, she rarely raises her voice in front of other people. However, she was not left unscathed by the past events.

The Kurosawa couple was formed on a mutual respect that had escalated to love. Toshiaki’s father was already content to have a good job and a somewhat stable life, he never expected to get infatuated with Toshiaki’s mother, while the latter had been focusing on studying for a long time without drifting her attention away. They liked the idea of being a couple, both for practical and emotional reasons. Outside of the couple perspective, Toshiaki’s mother had found a very supportive figure in her husband, who knew just how bad the horrors of the war could hit. After meeting her family-in-law, she discovered that despite not being directly harmed by the bombs, her husband’s family had been suffering from the loss of family members who had disappeared in internment camps set by the US government after the Pearl Harbor events. Long story short, they pack a lot of trauma as a couple and they both find support within each other.

The Kurosawa couple are both extremely strict in their own ways. Mr Kurosawa does not have a lot of physical presence, but is always used as a practical threat when it comes to punishing. Mrs Kurosawa, on the contrary, is quite omnipresent in Toshiaki’s life - she might be a little invasive to him, and she makes sure that nothing bad would be hidden from her. As immigrant parents, they want the best for their children but are worried about integration, mostly for Toshiaki who was born in Japan. They’re quite on the fence about homesickness, as they unconsciously fled their country in hopes of a healthier lifestyle. They can handle their own internal issues, but Toshiaki knows better and perceives them as too unstable to show his own homesickness and loss of orientation concerning his cultural baggage.
