Attention witchy/herbalism/hedge witch/kitchen witch folks
My husband is helping his mom clear out her basement, which is packed with all kinds of food stuffs and junk that his father collected, because the man was a hoarder. He’s sending me pictures of dried apricots that are 10 years old, pellegrino bottles that are 5 years old. Just, silly amount of weirdo doomsday prep.
All that is to say that he’s coming back with several pounds of dried tea and a pound of frankincense tears.
Anyone have suggestions for uses of frankincense tears beyond incense?  I’m wondering if I can make some ointments or something out of it from the resin pieces.  I’ve read it may help as an aromatherapy for asthma, which would be nice, but not sure how to convert that from the tears themselves.
Any tips, links/further reading recommendations etc would be great!

I’m making my frankincense and myrrh mixture, but I used sticky black frankincense instead of the normal frankincense I usually get and by the gods it lives up to its name! I was scrubbing my mortar and pestle for 30 minutes trying to get the leftovers off! 😮‍💨 Smells amazing tho!

The ingredients I’ve ordered to make incense of the Feast Day of St Expedite are beginning to arrive. The first two are some White Frankincense Neglecta and some Peruvian “Myrrh” Styrax (or Styrax Weberbaueri) from Apothecary’s Garden. Pictured is a half-ounce of each held in small, three ounce glass jars.
As the global demand for such resins strains the trees that provide them, I feel both grateful and privileged that I can find a shop that offers sustainable options that work with the communities that harvest the resins. While I’ve found substitutes for frankincense in my more day to day practice, I still have a deep fondness for it, and I’m glad to be able to source it in a way that strives to reduce over-harvesting.
I’m also expecting some powdered benzoin, and some powdered copal that was collected from fallen resin that had collected for years beneath Hymenaea Courbaril trees in southern Mexico. Both will be part of a powder blend I want to create during the Feast Day, while the resins above will remain in larger chunks and mix with some bark chips, rose petals, and herbs.

Do y'all think if I dissolved a chunk of frankincense into wine and then drank it, would it be harmful? Time sensitive question.

Lalibela (eau de parfum) Fleurs Bohèmes Memo
Mossy woods
A place of pilgrimage and celebration, located at over 2,500 meters in altitude, the Christian city of Lalibela in Ethiopia is shrouded in mystery. Legend has it that angels came down from heaven to build its twelve churches, hewn from the rock, in a single night, in the 12th century. Lalibela is the scent of joyous fervor. The fragrance included Rose, Frankincense and Patchouli among its ingredients, its own way of prolonging the mystical moment.
Twelve churches hewn from the Ethiopian rock in a single night. Vanilla. Mineral rocks, sculpted, cloaked in pink, emerge from the earth. Labdanum resin. Heavenly builders driven by a mystical fervour. Jasmine absolute. Mysterious sanctuaries, protected by the frankincense of an age-old ritual. Oil of patchouli. The hum of bees in the flowers, a joyous zeal. Rose. The fate that makes a fragrance a story. Lalibela.
Key  notes: Rose, Patchouli, Frankincense, Coconut orchid, Jasmine, Rock rose, Vanilla, Tobacco, Labdanum resin

Frankincense is an integral part of Oman’s culture and heritage. This aromatic resin is mostly used in incense and perfume and obtained from the tree bark of genus Boswellia. Frankincense is also known for its healing and restorative properties.Locally known as luban, Oman is known to produce the world’s finest frankincense. The best quality of frankincense is found in the Dhofar region and is abundantly available................, It can be used to improve respiratory function, reduce stress levels, induce relaxation and improve skin health. Frankincense oil is also known for its anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it a valuable addition to any natural health regimen. To improve circulation and lower symptoms of joint pain or muscle pain related to conditions like arthritis, digestive disorders and asthma, try massaging frankincense oil to the painful area or diffusing it in your home. Frankincense is totally safe to burn. However in the first usage always open the windows to allow the energy to be cleared out. How do I use it? The best way to burn Frankincense is to light a piece of charcoal with a lighter and place it onto the burner. Odd question, but since they're both dogs and I imagine smell is important to them, what do Machete and Vasco smell like?
Smells are indeed important to them. I think their sense of smell is definitely more keen than ours but not nearly as extreme as that of real dogs. It would be kind of world/society/behavior breaking if one of their senses was that much above what we as humans can even imagine.
Fur absorbs smells more efficiently than skin, so the environment each person spends most of their time in affects the way they smell (the same way your clothes tend to hold scents from the places you've recently been to).
Machete tends to smell mainly of frankincense, the primary ingredient of the sacred incense burned during worship. Smells are hard to describe but to me frankincense smells sweet, smoky, earthy, citrusy, piney, resinous and woody. Evokes the feeling of sanctity. There's also traces of ink, paper and old books. If he had been treated recently and you got really close and knew to look for it, you might be able to detect the cuts where he was bled.
Vasco uses perfumes skillfully, his favorites contain iris root and damask rose. The mellow scent of his high quality soaps often lingers for quite a while as well. If he's been outdoors, there's a more noticeable hint of leather, as well as moisture, earth, greenery, animals and various other nature smells. Since he's characterized by his vitality, I can't escape the feeling that if you were to put your nose on him, he'd smell like a warm, healthy, living thing even more strongly than people usually do, even if you didn't consciously realize it.

Okay i don't know if anyone else has ever noticed but i realised today just how chemical-laden western incense sticks are in contrast to Asian sticks like Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, etc. and I really want to know why that is. I brought some sticks a friend got me as a gift to temple today and when I pulled them out I noticed there was zero incense powder that rubbed off onto my hand, and when I lit them there was stuff MELTING off the surface??? The smell of the smoke was so harsh as well. What gives???
There are multiple types of incense. Many incenses are powders suspended in tree resins that melt as they are heated. A good example is frankincense. I'm not a doctor, but I think you are fine.
