I'm in the middle of reading Luffa's fight with Goku, and this question occurred to me. If you were asked how strong, fast, durable Luffa is, or how many planets she could destroy, what would you say? I know most authors don't think too much about that sorta thing, but I like hearing what they have to say about it nevertheless.
I wouldn't exactly call this a hypothetical situation, as people have asked me about Luffa's power level before. I've always been somewhat vague about it, because I was trying to save my answers for the Luffa/Goku fight that you're currently reading. (Thanks for reading it, by the way.)
My short answer is to reefer to this handy profile sheet I commissioned from the ever-talented Fraulein Pflaume some years ago. Let's just take a quick look and:
Tumblr media
I don't know if you can read that text on the right, but it says "Power Level: Maximum". It's a glib answer, but I created the character as a response to Broly hype, so it seems appropriate.
Now that the Luffa/Goku fight chapters are finally published, if someone asked me about it, I'd direct them to that part of the fic. Because that's the first time you really see Luffa fighting at full power against a canon DBZ character in an even match. And maybe it shouldn't have taken 200+ chapters to get to that point, but look at where we've been...
The first 141 chapters are all set centuries before the events of Dragon Ball. There's no frame of reference because everyone is just a character I made up.
Chapters 142-187 feature a Luffa weakened by some unexplained trauma. Maybe it's "jet lag" from being pulled into the future, or the strain of using the Golden Oozaru form, but she's not at 100%, which is why she's struggling against Nappa one day and then holding her own against Buu the next.
Chapters 188-211 feature Luffa more or less back at her full strength, but it doesn't matter because her opponents' powers aren't well-defined. Beerus clears everybody. Demigra and Xeno Trunks are official characters in the franchise, but they've had so few battles that they're in the same boat as all of my own OCs.
In all of this, the only useful point of reference is Goku, who joins the fight against Demigra in Xenoverse 1. He's from a period of time between Battle of Gods and Res F, so we have a decent idea what we're dealing with here. And my goal from the beginning was to set up that Luffa/Goku fight and have them be evenly matched, so that's where Luffa tops out.
That's how I interpret power levels in the Dragon Ball universe. If I make up a new guy, and I want to figure out how powerful they are, I would try to figure out which arc or movie they could be in and stay relevant. I think everyone is accustomed to this idea. I feel like we all agree that Z-Broly vs. Bojack would be a pretty even match because Bojack's movie is sandwiched between two Z-Broly films. And they both lost to Cell-Games-Era Z-Fighters, so it's reasonable to say Perfect Cell is somewhere in that ballpark too.
Shoot, I forgot that Goku even did this himself when he took stock of Dabura's powers in the Buu Saga. The Supreme Kai was terrified at the prospect of fighting Dabura, but Goku explained that he was about the same as Cell, whom they fought against seven years earlier.
Tumblr media
This is a much more natural way of addressing power scaling. Later, when Buu shows up, he sweeps Dabura, Gohan, and Vegeta like they're nothing, and that pretty much tells you exactly how high the stakes are. We don't need a scouter to understand Buu's strength and speed. Vegeta hit him with a lot of big power moves and Buu either shrugged it off, regenerated his injuries, or said that it hurt... a little.
I don't understand "How many planets?" as a measure of power. I mean, superficially, it's a cool question. "How many planets can your OC blow up?" That sounds badass, but what are we talking about, exactly? Like Frieza only destroyed two planets in canon. Three if you want to count Earth in Res F. But I'm pretty sure he could destroy a lot more if he had reason to. I don't think destroying more planets than someone else is a measure of power. It just means one of you had more planets you were mad at.
Unless we're talking like... in a row? I'm imagining Luffa lining up a shot like billiard balls. I guess that would be a greater feat of power, but it seems pretty wasteful. I know Cell threatened that his big Kamehameha at the end of the Cell Games could take out the entire solar system, but he never actually got to prove it, so I don't take that very seriously. It's kind of pointless to have characters slinging around that kind of power when they need planets to stand on for their fights.
I guess what I'm saying here is that I do think about this sort of thing a lot, but mainly because this particular character requires it. Luffa's role here is to be analogous to Goku, Vegeta, or Broly, so I have to constantly compare her to those kinds of characters. It's one thing to just have a Saiyan OC who happens to be able to go Super Saiyan. You can make them ridiculously OP, or just have them be kind of low-tier. I have a Time Patroller in the fic named Laddis, and he's a Super Saiyan, but he's just some jerk, which is kind of refreshing. I can do whatever I want with him, and it doesn't matter. Trunks is a big deal, but he's a practical guy, so no matter how strong he is I can just write him as a responsible leader and it works.
But Luffa has to be legendary, so there's this constant need to have her be inspiring or memorable, at least within her own fictional world. So I often look to Goku as a model of how to pull that off without overdoing it.
Tumblr media
I don't know why it suddenly popped into my head just now, but a good example of what I'm going for is when Aragorn first appears in Lord of the Rings. The hobbits see him staring at them from the corner of the tavern, and there's this palpable aura of danger around the guy. The innkeeper says he's a Ranger named "Strider", and speaks of him in hushed tones. And over the course of the book you find out all of his backstory, but that first scene is enough to tell you he's no ordinary dude. Once they find out he's an ally they become pals, but in that moment of uncertainty there's no telling what he might do.
That's the sort of aura I want for Luffa, where she's just another Time Patroller on the team, but she's also got this aura about her that makes her seem unapproachable. That's what I'm striving for, and since it's a Dragon Ball fic, I need to give the character certain powers and abilities to make that work. But at the same time, no one ever asks how many planets Aragorn can destroy.

“Mr. Edgeworth!” Kay screamed as she tackled him in a hug.
“Oof! It is good to see you again Kay. How have you been?” He smiled, awkwardly returning the hug.
“Good! Good! Is Sebby here? I haven’t seen him in forever!” Kay let him go and began scanning the room.
“Prosecutor Debeste is currently in the middle of a trial, however you can stay at the prosecutor’s office until he returns. I have some people I think you would enjoy meeting.” He turned around and waved at her to follow him.
Kay had spent the last few months abroad, helping Franziska and interpol. With the recent end to an investigation, Franziska and her had returned to LA. Franziska would be leaving again in a few days, she only had to retrieve a few files, but Kay was planning on picking up an investigation here. She really did miss LA and it’s prosecutors.
“So, who am I meeting? Is it “that man”?” She asked, doing a terrible Edgeworth impression. He rolled his eyes.
“No. We’ve acquired two new prosecutors I’d like you to meet.”
They climbed the rest of the stairs, with Kay telling him all about her time with Franziska. Apparently Franziska had been done with Kay’s antics after day two. So, she’d told Kay to just investigate on her own, that explained the call he’d gotten. Not long after the two had left, Franziska had called him to tell him he was insane, and nothing else.
“Now, they are a little strange to say the least,” Edgeworth said, as they approached an office. “I’ll introduce you to prosecutor Gavin first, he’s the more… calm of the two.” He muttered something else that she missed. “Prosecutor Gavin,” he said, as he pushed open the door. They were met with yelling so intense, she was surprised they hadn’t heard it outside.
“Herr Samurai while you have a point-”
“Gavin-dono your refusal is futi-”
“Oh my god! You’re Klavier Gavin!” Both men stopped yelling at each other and turned to the door.
Kay stood jaw dropped, pointing at Klavier, and Edgeworth just sighed. She ignored him and ran up to Klavier.
“I love your music! Can I get an autograph? Or better yet,” she fished around in her bag and pulled out a Gavineers CD, “Can you sign this?”
Klavier shook off his shock, and glared at Simon who had started snickering. He turned back to Kay and smiled, “Of course Fraulein.” Kay let out an almost deafening squeal. “And who am I signing it to?”
“Kay, Kay Faraday. I thought Sebby was lying when he said he worked with THE Klavier Gavin… I guess I owe him an apology,” she grumbled the last part. The two prosecutors were shocked when Edgeworth gave Kay a fond smile.
“Now,” he said, turning back to the two prosecutors, “What on earth were you two fighting about?”
“Gavin-dono and I were merely having a heated debate on whether Justice-dono would accept the proposal of a date with him,” Simon smirked, watching as Klavier’s face turned pink.
Edgeworth nodded, “Please keep these debates civil, or do not have them at all. But for the record, I’m sure Mr. Justice would absolutely accept the proposal of a date.” He smiled, before turning around to leave. “Do not cause too much chaos Kay, Prosecutor Debeste should be returning soon.”
“Yes sir!”

Kay Social Headcanons!
After AAI2, Miles stepped up as a legal and emotional father figure to her and Sebastian, but Kay claimed Sebastian as her brother before the ink on Blaise's conviction paperwork was even dry.
Gumshoe is Uncle Gummy to her. He and Uncle Badd are mentor figures to her when she decides to pursue a career as a detective (Badd teaches the practical skills, Gumshoe handles the people skills).
When she finally met the Wrights, she and Trucy immediately bonded and have been sisters ever since. They share lock-picking techniques.
She met Phoenix, put together that he was That Man, and teased Miles to no end about it, even after they became an item. After getting the context, Phoenix joined in the teasing.
Franziska is technically her aunt, and because of this, she tolerates being referred to as Franny/Franzy/Ziska as long as she doesn't do it while they're working.
She and Ema have crushes on each other and later get together (after a period of mutual pining that both Miles and Phoenix tried to curtail). Kay's expresses her feelings through showing off (risk taking/feats of athleticism).
Apollo has met her a few times, mostly through Trucy and Phoenix, and she's decided that if he's good enough for Miles and That Man, he's good enough for her.
Athena, on the other hand, is one of her best friends. They're workout buddies and cooperate on investigations (with token resistance because Kay isn't technically supposed to help the defense, but she's yet to truly get in trouble for it). Kay once gave Miles and Phoenix heart attacks by allowing Thena to throw her into the air so she could grab a ledge (they both got a talking to for that, but still do it when they aren't around).
After the Fulbright Incident, Kay became Simon's detective in addition to being Sebastian's. They get along just fine and both like dark humor.
She befriended Klavier through Seb and gained the nickname Fraulein Crow. If she can, she'll occasionally be the detective on his cases when Ema "needs a break from the fop."
She doesn't really have an opinion on Nahyuta, but figures he can't be that bad if he's Apollo's brother.

Due to a combination of getting a cold (and thus spending a lot of time laying around) and binging a really old season of the Amazing Race (for... reasons?), I have spent a surprising amount of time playing with this, so I thought I’d share.
Global Studios presents: The Amazing Race [note: I feel like this should be an adjacent title, like Phenomenal Challenge or something, but I haven’t landed on one yet]
Here are the (at the moment) 11 teams and their description/characterization:
Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey - spirit power siblings
Miles Edgeworth and Kay Faraday - The Yatagarasu father and daughter?
Apollo Justice and Trucy Wright - perceptive secret siblings
Klavier Gavin and Ema Skye - antagonistic coworkers
Athena Cykes and Simon Blackquill - psychology siblings
Franziska von Karma and Sebastian Debeste - perfect mentor/best mentee
Robin Newman and Hugh O’Connor - courtroom rivals
Vera Misham and Wocky Kitaki - dating ex-criminals
Raymond Shields and Katherine Hall - married teenage sweethearts
Dick Gumshoe and Maggey Byrd - married coworkers
Shi-Long Lang and Jake Marshall - committed to aesthetic
Some additional notes:
This is set some time post Dual Destinies, but that is as specific as I have it.
Kay insists on referring to her team as The Yatagarasu, which Miles continues to try and shut down. It was one thing for her to walk around calling herself that when she was 17. It’s an entirely different thing to identify herself (and him) as such now that she is 26 on national television.
Ema did not sign up to be Klavier’s partner. He is making the most of this. She is not. This obviously makes for great television.
There is a running gag throughout the season of Nick (and eventually other people) trying to tell Apollo and Trucy that they are siblings, and Apollo and Trucy just never get it.
Lang and Jake are here because the studio wants eleven teams. They have never spoken before this. Any “drama” or “character moments” they have for the first half of the season are manufactured by the studio. Despite knowing this, Lang and Jake make the best effort to participate. They get along excellently.
I’m still playing with this, and who knows if I’ll fully flesh this out into something. At the very least I’m having fun writing scenarios and scenes for it. So because why not, here is the short introduction interview for each team.
Nick and Maya - spirit power siblings
Maya is clearly the more energetic of the two. Maya: I have always wanted to compete in a contest like this! And we are definitely winning a million dollars. Nick: yeah, and then you’re gonna pay me for all the times I defended you. Maya: Hey! You can’t charge the manager! Nick: Maya, you hadn’t worked at the office in 9 years the last time--
Miles and Kay - The Yatagarasu father and daughter?
Miles looks resigned to his fate as Kay energetically grins. Kay: We’re totally going to win this because we’re not afraid of anything! Scaling cliffs? Jumping out of planes? Driving a stick-shift? (Miles looks progressively more concerned, until “stick-shift” at which point he looks tired) Miles: Kay, there is hardly anything frightening about driving-- Kay (completely ignoring this as she pumps her fist): Go ahead and throw anything at us!
Apollo and Trucy - perceptive secret siblings
Trucy is performing a slight of hand tick where she makes a red ball disappear and reappear. Apollo: I guess this will be interesting. (he glances over at Trucy, who is still performing her trick) I already get dragged into things that aren’t my job. Might as well get the chance to win a million dollars doing it. Trucy (lightly smacks the back of his head): Polly! You can’t give away what happens behind the scenes. The show hasn’t even started yet!
Ema and Klavier - antagonistic coworkers
Ema is staring daggers at the camera as Klavier tries to smile nonchalantly. Klavier: Fraulein Detective and I have worked together-- Ema: I am not running this with this fop as my partner. Klavier: *nervous laughter* This should give us the chance to find a better work rhythm-- Ema (abruptly stands up, blocking the camera): who decided this?! I want to talk to whoever's in charge! (clip cuts off)
Athena and Simon - psychology siblings
The video clips shown for Athena and Simon are them sparing (with distressingly real looking swords). Athena: Simon and I definitely have an advantage over the teams. We are way more physically fit! (Athena flashes a peace sign at the camera) Simon: The idea that any other team could beat us at a physical task is laughable. Athena: Plus, no one else at the office knows how to drive a car!
Franziska and Sebastian - perfect mentor/best mentee
Franziska is looking smugly at the camera, while Sebastian looks a bit anxious. Franziska: There is practically no point in this contest as we are obviously going to win. She pauses expectantly, then nudges Sebastian Sebastian: Oh! Right. Obviously. After all, we are The Best team.
Robin and Hugh - courtroom rivals
Robin is vibrating in her seat. Hugh has his chin lifted and a cocky smirk on his face. Hugh: As far as I’m concerned this competition will be a cake walk. Robin: WE’RE GONNA TOTALLY BEAT ALL THE OTHER TEAMS, MAAAAN!!!!
Vera and Wocky - dating ex-criminals
Wocky is making some “cool” gestures. Vera is sitting with her arms pulled very close, slightly hunched shoulders, though there is a small smile on her face. Wocky: Yo, Vera and I got this in the bag. We’re the best team outta all these posers! Ya feel me? (he looks over at Vera) Vera: (nods) Wocky: That’s right! So you better watch where you step!
Ray and Kate - married teenage sweethearts
Ray: Katie and I have been through a hell of a lot in the twenty-six years we’ve known each other, so I don’t expect us to have many problems. Kate: I would say our biggest strength is our ability to stay positive no matter what. (she takes a breath and begins to sing) Positivity is the key to success!
Gumshoe and Maggey - married coworkers
The camera is slightly wonky and out of focus as Maggey profusely apologizes for tripping over the cables. After a second, it comes into focus, though it remains slightly tilted. Gumshoe smiles broadly: We’re just happy to be here, pal. I mean, we’ve never gone on a trip like this. I’ve never even left the state! Maggey: I tried once, but the car I was in started having engine trouble, and then we ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, and the taxi we called… (the clip quickly fades out as Maggey continues to list the tragedies of her attempted trip)
Lang and Jake - committed to aesthetic
(cameraman): talk about each other Lang: we don’t know each other (cameraman): sure you do, just *gestures to go* Jake: … I’ve known Agent Lang for about 5 minutes, and he seems to be the only person out here who’s got his head on straight. Lang: Lang-Zi says adaptability is the strongest trait in a pack.

I found this ""outline"" for an Ace Attorney fic buried deep in my WIPs, and it is coherent enough that I thought I'd drop it here, because it deserves to be somewhere.
Ema is friends with Kay, and Klavier is friends with Kay (through Sebastian) but neither of them have met the other?
So Klavier starts prosecuting, and Ema finishes her schooling and moves back and tries to become a forensics
And Kay keeps saying “oh man, you should meet my friends in the Prosecutor's Office” and Ema is like “I have no time for that, because science”
And Klavier is busy with rock stuff, who knows
But eventually Ema is a detective and Kay goes to Edgeworth and is like “I have some dear friends who work for you, please assign them together”
And Edgeworth is like ???????? And assigns Ema to Sebastian
(Sebastian's detective is Fulbright, NOW I'M SAD, FUCK)
And then Klavier comes back from rock stuff and Edgeworth realizes he is friends with Kay too?? and thinks, oh man, Kay likes it when her friends hang out, let me do this, also it'll be hilarious
And so both Klavier and Ema start complaining to Kay about their new partners, and she doesn't realize that they are talking about each other??
“A new detective and a new prosecutor? Man, they must be having a lot of turnover”
(Which, I mean, yeah, dark age of the law)
And then Klavier has something that needs scienced and Kay is like, it's cool, I know a lady. And she tells Ema hey, my friend needs some science help, pls, and then EMA SHOWS UP
And both of them are like, YOU!!!!!
And Kay can't stop laughing
“EMA is the grumpy fraulein? and KLAVIER is the fop??!” which, okay, if she'd stopped to think about it, she ought to have guessed, but
HOW DO YOU KNOW EACH OTHER
Well Kay and Ema, that's Edgeworth's fault, we were penpals for ages, because that PIC bullshit was some bullshit
And Kay and Klavier, we know each other through Sebastian, they met at school and are good buds
(“I WORKED with Sebastian! He never mentioned you!”)
And then they have to get along??
They do not get along, but that absolutely does not stop Kay

ema for the fic!
actually managed to stay in the word limits this time, who knew that was possible?
----
Romantic Love
“If you think about it, really, all love is is a surge of hormones --”
“-- Oh god --”
“-- primarily oxytocin, along with dopamine and serotonin --”
“Ema,” Kay groaned, burying her face in the back of her shoulder. “Ema. You’re killing me. I’m sorry. I promise I’ll never make a science pun again.”
Ema laughed. “Kay, if you’re never making a science pun again, then I’ll have to break up with you. No hard feelings.”
“A necessary sacrifice, when I spend all day trying to come up with a science-related pick-up line, and all I get in return is a ten minute spiel about hormones --”
“You’re being dramatic, it was literally thirty seconds, if that.”
“Yet it felt like an eternity! Is there a scientific reason behind my girlfriend’s science speeches causing time to slow down?”
Ema slowly turned around with a grin.
Kay’s eyes widened. “Oh no.”
“Well, now that you’ve asked --”
“No!”
“-- you may have heard of the phrase, ‘time flies when you’re having fun’, and this is because a human’s perception of time --”
“I regret asking! I regret asking!”
Ema laughed and continued anyways. She knew, in spite of her staged complaints, Kay was hanging on to every word.
----
Platonic Love
It was no secret that Ema had absolutely hated the Fop at first.
The reasons were simple. For one, he was certainly no Miles Edgeworth, too cheery and showy and dramatic. For another, he’d been the one to disbar Mr. Wright, one of the most respectable men Ema knew. And, though she hadn’t realized this until later, she’d developed some sort of unconscious association between working with Klavier and being a detective instead of a forensic scientist. She resented that, so she resented him.
But still, even when she hated his guts, she saw the haunted and haggard look on his face when she brought him paperwork after the Misham trial, and decided she hated that look more than any of the braggadocious grins before. So she grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to the nearest bar.
She… didn’t really have a plan for after that.
“I… must admit I’m rather surprised you brought me here, Fraulein Detective,” said Klavier, fiddling with the straw of some expensive fruity drink. “Don’t tell me you’ve finally fallen for me?”
He winked. It was such an obvious, pathetic attempt at clinging to his rockstar persona that Ema actually felt bad for him, horror of horrors.
“Only a joke, ja? Please don’t spray me with whatever chemical you’ve whipped up today.”
Ema sighed and set down her drink. “Just shut up. How’re you holding up?”
Klavier tilted his head, clearly puzzled by the first genuine inquiry into his well-being Ema had ever said. Huh. Maybe she did need to be nicer to him. “In truth, I’m not at my best,” he said, in the understatement of the year. “But is that really what you brought me here to ask?”
“What’d you think I brought you for?”
“In all honesty, I’m not sure. I was under the impression that you despise me.” He raised an eyebrow and took another sip of his drink. “So, why?”
Why indeed? … Ema didn’t know. She could confide in him about her sister being in prison, and that sinking horror she felt at sixteen when she realized it would be years until she was being released; but at least Lana was being released, while Kristoph was headed for the death sentence. That was something she couldn’t relate to, and was grateful she couldn’t; and bringing up how she’d gotten slightly luckier with siblings than Klavier did just seemed insensitive.
So she shrugged. “Thought you could use an ear to complain to that couldn’t possibly hate you more, no matter what you say.”
Klavier smiled a genuine smile. “Ja, I see. Thanks, Ema.”
… Hm. Surprisingly, he didn’t seem so insufferable after all.
----
Familial Love
Ema and Lana sat in the hospital room together, Ema on the bed and Lana in the chair right next to her. Ema hadn’t been hurt, not physically, though it was a close call; still, Lana had called for an ambulance, just in case.
Ema was still struggling to process the events of the last few hours. She’d been waiting in her sister’s office. A man had come in to the office. She’d asked who he was, and if he was looking for her sister, because she was currently interrogating a suspect. It was raining. The man pulled out a knife.
That’s when things got fuzzier. Another man ran in, one of Lana’s co-workers. They’d fought. The room went dark. Ema wanted to make them stop. Ema tried to make them stop, she’d ran in, she’d pushed --
“Ema.”
The hand on her shoulder made her jump; but it was only her sister’s. Lana released her. “Are you cold? Do you need another blanket?”
Ema opened her mouth to answer but no words came out. She felt dizzy and her chest was tight, Lana was talking to her but she couldn’t hear and she couldn’t breathe, maybe she had been hurt, maybe the guy with the knife had stabbed her, and they just didn’t know, and her heart monitor was going so fast, and Lana was still talking to her and Ema still couldn’t hear and --
“Ema, please listen to me, I’m right here, you’re safe.” There were nurses behind her sister with more blankets. One of them had an oxygen mask. Was she dying? “Ema, Ema, breathe with me, okay? Just a little bit… slowly… okay…? Like this…”
Ema tried to obey, but everything was turning fuzzy and dark around her, and she was dying, so it was difficult. Lana kept encouraging her, gently, not touching her. The nurse with the oxygen mask placed it near her face, and it made it a little easier to breathe. Slowly, slowly, her breathing evened out, and everything stopped hurting so much. Maybe she wasn’t dying after all.
“You’re doing great, Ema,” Lana continued, even when Ema had her breathing matched. “You’re doing so good. I promise you’re safe here. No one is ever going to hurt you ever again.”
There was a cold, hard light in her eyes at those words, one which might have worried Ema, and one that she would think of often over the next two years. In that moment, though, she clung to those words, and was simply grateful her sister was there.

guess! who! wrote! fic!
So this is a random snippet of a ‘scene’ I had floating around in my head and really liked, so wrote it out. It’s an au in a scenario where some events congruent to canon happened, but I haven’t thought out every little detail. Basically they’re all late teens and grew up in the same area.
will end up being posted on my actual fic sites when I give it another lookthrough and a title, but I’m pretty happy with this as is so:
“So, are you finally going to tell me what it is we’re doing on the side of the road in the middle of the woods, at dusk?”
Kay’s hair whirled around her as she turned, the brightness of her grin barely visible as a flash of a reflection of the fading light. “We’re enacting a sacred tradition, and since we’re friends now, it only seemed fair to invite you along.”
“And I am all for bonding, but could it not be a bit less…this?” Klavier spread his arms out to encompass the expanse of trees, the mud they were definitely already tracking around, the background of insect noises which had only just begun in full force.
“I told you to wear sturdy shoes.” She shrugged, stomping one of her heavy boots on the edge of the asphalt in emphasis.
He had, or at least an older pair of sneakers that he had decided we alright potentially being ruined when they had told him to be ready for an “excursion”. But that wasn’t really the point. The point was that whatever this was supposed to be, it seemed to him that it could at least have happened under slightly less suspicious circumstances. A small grin, and then, “you aren’t planning on hazing me, are you?”
Kay gasped, a hand clutching the fabric of her shirt, although her eyes held the same warmth as before. “Of course not. Right?” Gaze shooting to a spot behind him, she winked.
“Yeah. Hazing would suggest that our friendship is congru- contingent on you doing this. Which it isn’t.” Shoving his hands into the pocket of his hoodie, Sebastian kicked at some loose stones. “You can leave if you want. We just thought you might enjoy being a part of it.” Shaking his head to move his bangs out of his face, he added, “It’s getting into trouble, but we’re not breaking any rules or anything.”
“Yeah,” Kay waved it off, verbally and physically as she flapped a hand through the air. “Nothing like where there’d be real consequences. Honestly, this has to be one of the least messy kinds of trouble I ever get into.” She flashed another grin before jumping from where she stood, bounding over the ditch that separated the road from the trees. Her landing was signaled by only the barest rustle of leaves, despite the mid-autumn carpet of dry ones everywhere. “Probably why my dads let me keep doing it even with the complaints.”
“Now that hardly makes you sound reassuring, Fraulein.”
She shrugged. “It’s only because we’re annoying people who are irritated by us merely existing. Trust me, they kind of deserve it.”
“Very well.” Casting about for a safe spot to cross, he noticed that he was now the only one on that side. At the frown he made, the other two burst into laughter.
“It’s not actually that far. Or so deep you can’t walk through it. Someone’s just a show-off.”
Kay stuck her tongue out at him.
When Sebastian did an exaggerated version of her pose, Klavier mentally shook his head and ignored them, at least for long enough to pick his way across the gap with the minimum amount of getting mud or grass on his pants as possible. At that point, he was greeted with the sight of his friends trading increasingly obnoxious faces. He looked between the two of them. Seeing this type of childishly familiar interaction still continued to confound him; he had known Sebastian, albeit not that well until recently, for several years, so he knew that Kay had only met him a little under a year ago. And even with that, he still had to occasionally remind himself that they weren’t actually fraternal siblings.
He stood there watching them for a bit. But quickly realizing that they weren’t responding to his mere presence, he stepped between them, breaking the line of sight. “So, where to now?” He gave one of his dazzling smiles.
Kay was the first to recover. “This way.” She gave a sweep of the arm, bowing deeply.
There followed a good ten minutes of tromping through the woods until Sebastian called them to a halt, switching off the flashlights they had brought. Ahead, the trees quickly thinned out into a clearing.
Poking his head forward in the space between the other two, Klavier stared out into the darkness. As his eyes adjusted, he could make out a sizeable expanse of land that gave way to the back side of a massive house. Other than a few windows, the main source of illumination came from a light attached to the roof that was pointed mostly towards the far-left side. While it almost cast more shadows than anything else, it seemed to show that the main portion of the back yard was covered in a network of gardens and some combination of benches and or statues.
“Is that a waterfall?” Klavier pointed at the edge of the pool of light, where a sizeable pond sat, the surface disturbed by a cascade of water coming from a hill to one shore.
Kay snorted. “I know, right? You’re not even allowed to swim in there. It’s reserved for ‘spiritual cleansing’ and ‘meditation training’ and junk like that.” She made finger quotes as she spoke, rolling her eyes.
“The head of household is super stuffy, if you’d believe it.”
“Never would have guessed,” he drawled as he scanned the area for anything he might have missed. “And we are here for what, exactly?”
At this, Kay brightened even more, were it possible. “We,” she placed her hands on her hips, legs firmly planted, “are on a mission.” Her voice dropped lower than it usually was. “A rescue mission. Within the walls of this manor lives the grandest princess in all the land, condemned to waste her life away, alone, by those who have cruelly imprisoned her. But!” Stepping sideways and dramatically throwing out an arm to point in the direction of the house, she gave a smirk. “No longer! For the Great Thief has come to steal this lovely maiden away, flying off without a trace into the dark sky of the evening!”
“…We’re sneaking her girlfriend out of the house to visit for the weekend,” Sebastian supplied, barely concealing a grin at Klavier’s bemusement.
Kay wilted. “Seb, no.” She crossed her arms, settling her weight more on her back leg as she regarded him. “The Great Thief has recruited a pair of bards to assist her on this most perilous mission, to share in the glory and sing in her accolades, and this is the thanks they give her? Such betrayal.” Clutching at her heart with both hands, she fell to her knees in a mock expression of agony.
Now standing over her as she literally sprawled out on the ground, Klavier spared Kay a glance longer before he turned to Sebastian. He raised an eyebrow. “And you don’t enjoy this? It seems like fun enough.”
He shrugged, staring off into the distance. “Oh, I do. I just don’t need a fantasy version to make it interesting” The biggest mischievous grin Klavier had seen bloomed on his face. “Even though her mother is completely fine with her being with us, it’s just because her aunt’s technically in charge when she’s gone and doesn’t like us. I mean, she almost never cares about what Maya does otherwise; she gets so upset about this specifically though, it’s great.”
Klavier didn’t notice that he had been staring for a moment, until Kay, who had sprung back up, clapped him on the back and motioned for them to follow her. He was glad to have the guidance, since even in the light there was, they had to keep their gaze down to avoid stepping off the stone pathways and tripping over something or another. Finally, they stopped behind a larger bush situated just next to the house itself.
Kay pointed at a second-floor window just to the side of where they stood. “That’s our target. See the bench over there? We drag that over and you guys give me a boost from there. I climb in the window, retrieve the lady, and off we go. Ready?”
Despite its heavy appearance, the bench moved with relatively little fuss by the three of them, although they did have to take care not to scrape it against any of the stepping stones embedded in the grass. Once it was positioned below the window, Kay directed the boys to step up before climbing up in the middle.
“So,” she said, seemingly unfazed by being practically squashed between the two of them, “if you can just get me up high enough to reach that ledge thingy, I’ll fly up the rest of the way! Stay out of sight until I get back, and we’ll be out in no time.”
It took a bit of maneuvering and a last-second aversion of an accident, but finally Kay was pushing off of them. Regaining his balance after the sudden loss of weight on him, Klavier looked up to see that she was true to her word, climbing the bumpy surface with only slightly more apparent difficulty than most people would a ladder.
“A woman of many talents, ja?”
Sebastian shook his head, smiling. “Something like that. Here, help me move this back.” As they picked up the bench, he added, “She practices rock climbing a lot. And on other buildings. She climbed through my window in the middle of the night a lot after she found out I was having trouble sleeping. Mr. Edgeworth actually gave her a house key to try to get her to stop, but she still does it some of the time.”
As they returned to their initial spot by the side of the house, Klavier gave him a soft smile. “Good.” When he received a confused tilt of the head and an otherwise mostly blank expression, he added, “That she wants to help you. I-“ A hand went up to run through his hair. He suddenly wished he’d brought his sunglasses after all (which he hadn’t because it was dark out when they left and that would just be ridiculous, even for him).
“I feel bad about not being as much a friend as I should have been, in the past, and…” A sigh. “At least now you have other people too, ja?”
“I guess.” He raised his shoulders as he spoke, accompanied by a shake of the head that it seemed unclear whether he was aware of. “But there’s nothing for you to apologize for. I mean, I was, well…you know. I wouldn’t blame you guys if you never wanted anything to do with me.”
Klavier paused his instinctual motion to comfort halfway there. “May I?” he ventured. When he received a nod, he gently placed a hand over one of Sebastian’s. “Those were quite different circumstances. And nothing changes the fact that you deserve to have good people in your life.” In a lighter tone, he added, “Besides, would we be here doing this now if we didn’t want to be your friends?”
A sniffle. “I guess not, huh?” Sebastian ducked his head, but the tension in his body had lessened significantly.
Satisfied, he smiled to himself and opened his mouth to add something else, but was interrupted by a shriek.
---
Kay pulled herself up the final few inches to be level with the window. A quick pattern of taps against the glass, and it slid open almost instantly. Climbing inside, she sat against the windowsill. “Well, I appreciate the assistance. But,” she struck a pose, staring down the standing girl in the middle of the room, “I do hope you realize you just let in a thief.”
“You’re lost then. The exhibit area’s downstairs.”
She flipped her scarf over her shoulder. “Oh, but I am here to steal something far more valuable than that. I am here for...your heart!”
At this, Maya’s serious expression broke. “And that’s where you’re wrong again.” Arms crossed over her chest, she grinned. “You can’t steal what’s freely given.”
Kay started. Stumbling forward as she tripped over her own legs, she finally made her way over the other, flushed and stuttering.
Maya giggled. “You’re adorable,” she said, stepping up on her toes to press a kiss to Kay’s cheek.
“Yeah, well, so are you,” she mumbled under her breath. Then, after a minute of looking around to compose herself, she added, much more audibly, “Where’s Pearly?”
“Not coming this time. Said she had too much to work on, and Athena’s…” She trailed off as she struggled not to burst into laughter as Kay had immediately started to search for the girl, first by opening the wardrobe, and then by crawling under the bed.
Kay dragged herself out, beaming as she stood back up and made her way over to her girlfriend. She wrapped her arms around her, tilting her chin so that her head rested on top of Maya’s. A content sigh as she melted into the embrace.
They both probably would have stayed there for hours, quiet revelry in each other’s warmth and the way they could rest against each other so comfortably, all that time spent figuring out the exact way to hold each other so they fitted together perfectly paying off more than they could have imagined. Kay had just reached a hand up to run fingers through Maya’s hair, though, when she caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye.
She let out a squeak, turning sharply to face what turned out to be the door, open enough of a crack to show the form of a woman frozen halfway inside.
“Hi…sis…” Maya’s voice came out muffled. With a little effort, she extricated herself from her still-shocked girlfriend’s grasp enough so that her face wasn’t pressed into her. “What are you…”
Mia lifted an arm to show what she had been carrying. “You left your jacket downstairs, and it would hardly be responsible of me to let you go out tonight without one.” Pushing the door shut with only the softest of clicks, she made her way over to the two of them. “I know you’re quite attached, but if I may borrow my sister for a moment.”
Kay stared at her before realizing that she still had her arms firmly around Maya’s waist. “Right!” She released her and took a good couple of steps back, to give them space.
Holding up the jacket, Mia nodded her head. As Maya lifted her arms, she went about the motions of sliding the jacket on over her pajamas, a warm smile appearing in her eyes. She tugged down on the edges before carefully zipping it up.
“Sis, I’m plenty old enough to do this by myself,” she groaned, staring off at a spot on the wall.
Giving the zipper a final tug, she chuckled. Putting a hand each on the sides of Maya’s face, she held her still long enough to kiss her forehead. “Exactly. You’re growing up so fast. It’s like yesterday you were a baby and now I’m here embarrassing you in front of your girlfriend.”
Maya’s only response was to stick her tongue out and yank the hood of her jacket up over the top of her face.
As if remembering her presence, she took that opportunity to levy a glance in Kay’s direction. “And I can be confident that she will take care of my baby sister, correct?”
Mia was only an inch or two taller than her sister, but her stare still made Kay feel as though she was the one having to look up to make eye contact. Her mouth seemed to have stopped working, so she settled for vigorously nodding instead.
“Good.” She fluffed up Maya’s hair with one hand. “I can handle Aunt Morgan as long as you’re back by-“
“MOTHER!”
“Aw shit,” Kay breathed, lunging for the bag that sat by the edge of the bed. “Time to go.” Sticking her head out the window, she cringed as she noticed a figure in white dashing away from the area under the window.
“Busted?” The whisper came from behind her as Maya attempted to get a view as well.
“Dahlia.”
She slapped her hands on the windowsill. “Ugh.” Wriggling her way so she was also partially out the window, she cupped her hands around her mouth. “Time to go, boys!” She tried to wave at the two as they appeared from behind a bush, but found that the spot was just a little to tight to let her actually move from how she was.
A sigh from inside the room. “You’re going to get stuck if you keep that up, and I’m not going to be able to delay them that long.” With a gentle but firm grip, Mia tugged the two of them out from the frame. “Go on,” she waved at Kay.
She gave a single nod. The bag was unceremoniously dropped out the window seconds before she began climbing out of it herself.
Mia gave her sister one last hug before making her way to the other side of the door. “Have fun, be good. Chair under the handle, I can stall easier that way.” A smile, and then she was gone.
Wasting no time in doing so, Maya dashed back to the window, under which the other three were standing. She managed to maneuver her way out and hanging off the ledge with only a little trouble, and at Kay’s signal, let herself drop down.
The landing wasn’t as comfortable as it could have been, finding herself in a tangle of limbs, mostly on Sebastian with Kay still half-hanging on to where she’d caught her legs, but nothing broken, nothing bruised. She grinned at the unfamiliar blonde half-crouched to one side of them. “Hi!”
He simply frowned, looking over at something behind them. “Nice to meet you, Fraulein, but perhaps later? It seems we have some attention.”
There were in fact a lot of lights on in the house now, and shouts could be heard from inside.
Kay took Maya’s hand and pulled her up, starting at a run as soon as she was on her feet. Both of them be laughing as they went, picking their way back through the maze of landscaping.
Behind them, Klavier hesitated as he scanned the grounds. The girls had retreated enough in the moments longer it had taken him to get to his feet that he couldn’t quite follow their movements, and there were so many winding paths of garden, even with the lights from inside he-
His problem was easily solved as Sebastian skidded to a halt close enough to almost knock into him. “May I?” He held out his hand.
Klavier began to hesitantly raise his own to take it when there was a much louder exclamation. A woman appeared from the side of the house, holding up a flashlight and shouting Maya’s name, among other things that his mind wasn’t bothering to process right now, apparently.
At this point, Sebastian grabbed onto his arm and began absolutely booking it towards the trees. Practiced motions wound through the obstacles with ease even in the dark, accompanied by a pace that had them out on open grass in minutes.
It was hardly fair, Klavier thought, that even though he was barely shorter he was still being pulled along behind Sebastian a little, adrenaline being the main factor that had him keeping pace. Well, that and the little breathless laughs that he could occasionally hear over the rustle of leaves and the girls’ laughs and whoops ahead of them.
They skidded to a halt just inside the tree line. Klavier had just slid his arm out of Sebastian’s grip in time to dodge away from Kay barreling towards him.
She let out an “I’m gonna hug you ok,” so fast the words mushed together. A second’s pause right in front of him with her arms held out. When he nodded, she practically flung herself at him, the force of it lifting him off his feet. Kay went with it though, using the motion to spin Sebastian around. “That was awesome!”
“Yeah!” Maya’s volume was a little too high for comfort considering she was almost right next to Klavier, who was still trying to recover. She gave him as good a look-over as she could in the near-complete darkness. “You want burgers? I could go for a burger right now wow I am out of it right now. I’m Maya, by the way.” She held out a hand for a high-five.
“Klavier.”
Her flat hand managed to shift to a firm grip as she shook his hand when he moved to high-five her. “Nice.” Letting go, she circled behind the other two to retrieve her bag from where it had been dropped.
“Well then,” Kay, who had finally put Sebastian down, slung her arm over Klavier’s shoulder. “You have fun?”
He looked at her, grinning wildly and sweaty to the touch. Then over to Maya, dirt streaked across her face and hands (he faintly recalled seeing her stumble before). And Sebastian, looking ruffled but more importantly with another of those genuine smiles which Klavier was pretty sure he’d seen more of during this evening than ever before. They were debating about going out versus heading back to Kay’s, but exhaustion setting in kept him from really paying it much mind. He took a breath, his heartbeat only just settling down from something he could actively feel and the fall chill starting to register again.
“Ja,” He turned back to Kay, a mirror of her smile blooming on his own face. “I did.”

I've read it! Twice in a row! And Ao3 won't let me leave more Kudos! You should be allowed to leave Kudos once per chapter :D
Aaaaaaaah thank you!

Also if Lamiroir isn't the " one other person like" Klavier that he's met, I will eat my hat. Any of my hats. You can choose which one.
No need to choose. I don’t think there’s any reason I can’t say that yeah, that’d be Lamiroir. He’ll talk a little more about her in the next chapter, too.
@runningwolf62
“So that’s why no one’s seen you around,” Apollo says. “Because you’ve made everyone overlook you.”
Funny enough since I referenced Chronicles of Darkness earlier in regards to this fic, this is a power vampires in that game system have.
Oh shit, really? Neat-o.
KLAVIER LET YOURSELF HAVE FRIENDS YOU FOOL.
Preferably before someone calls Lang to sniff you out.
Lang’s somewhere in Asia and he gets a call from Kay that’s like “yo, since trying to pick the lock on his office didn’t work, I need you to help me corner some guy so I can aggressively love and support him” and Lang is like “it’s 3 am”
DHURKE’S GONNA CATCH THESE HANDS.
HE’S DOING HIS BEST but it’s clearly worse than Phoenix’s bad best. so. yeah. Fun fact for you, Klavier is probably gonna try to fight Dhurke when he meets him, and Dhurke being Dhurke is just like “Apollo I’m glad you’ve made such loyal friends!” and then like twenty minutes later he’s like “oh wait, not friends, gay” and Apollo’s like “hm, kinda wish I was dead right now, Dhurke, thanks for this”
Phoenix: “Go, be gay, help him.”
Genuinely that’s Phoenix’s entire thought process, and that’s what he was hoping would happen in Ch 15 when he sends Apollo off, so he’s got no problems with it. Apollo’s gonna be all apologetic handing the magatama back and Phoenix is like “nope, no apologies, you’re good to go, you’re doing great”
Also I assume they’re not going to be able to sneak out without Kay and Sebastian following them because Kay already knows someone’s in there and thus Sebastian probably knows.
The second gen kids have so many issues.
so many issues. Having said that, Kay, while sort of aggressively overbearing about inserting herself into people’s lives, has grown up somewhat and does have just a bit of presence of mind to realize that if Klavier has found someone to open up to, she probably shouldn’t stall out that process by barging in, no matter how much she wants to.
Apollo is gonna notice lots of crows around the WAA, now, though. He’s gonna be dealing with a lot of crows scoping him out. Kay fancies herself a secret agent and she has a mission and I can’t decide whether it’s funnier that she should show up at the office and immediately introduce herself to Apollo, or that he should only meet her much later, to be incredibly weirded out that she knows quite a bit about him already. Also I sort of want Apollo to think for a while that Klavier is talking about an actual crow when he mentions “Fraulein Crow”, like for him to think there’s the witch, Sebastian, and his familiar, instead of how it actually is, which is a witch and a shapeshifter who enjoys fucking with people.

klavier bites the inside of his lip to stifle a laugh: while he finds the situation QUITE amusing, it seemed that the witness at hand would beg to differ. after taking a moment to compose himself, he turns to them with an unwavering straight face.

It’s Worth More Than A Thousand
Happy AAI2 Day!
The Edgeworth Law Offices have expanded over the years. Ray now has several employees working under him, making his office less of a formality than it had been when he worked alone. However, Ray rarely closes off his office, and it’s understood that if the door is open, anyone is free to wander in.
The office is fairly simple. The “decorations” Ray has are minimal and limited to one section of the office’s wall. This is the reason that the other employees will find many reasons to stick their heads into the office: Ray’s wall of photos.
Ray still has two pictures sitting on his desk. He insists on them staying, no matter how crowded the rest of the desk becomes. However, as he started collecting more pictures, there just wasn’t room on the desk. So the other pictures have found their way to the wall.
Some of them are pictures he’s been sent from different people over the years. There’s one from Courtney of her and John. The kid’s grown enough to almost reach her shoulder.
There’s a picture of Ray, Kate, and Mr. Masters the day her sentence was up. Everyone in the picture is crying. Next to this one is the wedding picture. Miles had commented when he put it up that a wedding photo seems more like the type of picture to keep on your desk. Ray had grinned and asked why wouldn’t he want everyone who came into his office to know how gorgeous his wife was? There was also the amusement Ray got out of watching people stare at the picture, trying to figure out if the woman in the picture was in fact well-known film actress Katherine Hall.
If he’s being honest, watching people stare at the pictures in confusion is a big reason why most of them are up there.
Another one of those pictures is one Miles actually sent him. It’s of him and Sebastian the day Sebastian retook the bar, at his own insistence. Ray had jokingly told Miles he better take pictures, and part of the reason he displays the photo is because he hadn’t expected Miles to follow through. He also just likes the picture. Miles clearly asked someone else to take it while he awkwardly tries to hug Sebastian, who is heavily crying while trying to smile and hold up his badge. That one is great to watch people stare at.
But his favorite picture is centered on the wall. It’s arguably not a very good picture; almost everyone in it is poorly framed. Mr. Badd is standing in the very back, almost entirely obscured by the other people in the picture. Detective Gumshoe is in front of him, pulling a slightly confused looking Sebastian back into frame; he’d stepped aside before the picture was taken, not sure if he was supposed to be in it. Miles is standing on the other side, not looking at the camera, a stern look on his face as he tries to keep Franziska in the frame. Franziska, still only partially in the frame, is angrily hissing at someone behind Miles, her whip raised menacingly. The someone she’s hissing at is Klavier, hair only down to his shoulders. He’s halfway through a crouching motion, a slightly horrified look on his face, his eyes fixed firmly on Franziska’s whip. If Ray remembers, Klavier had made some comment to her about the picture, probably called her Fraulein, and which had led to the hissing and whip threatening. Lang is standing between Klavier and Gumshoe, mouth open as he looks vaguely at the camera, in the middle of a warning that had gone unheeded. Ray is in front of him, the farthest forward, reaching out to try and prevent the apparently inevitable accident.
Said inevitable accident occurred because Kay, who is taking the picture, had apparently decided if she had any hope of getting herself, Franziska, and seven other much taller people in the same frame, she would need a better vantage point. She’d then decided to climb up on the plastic folding chair sitting on the grass, either forgetting or ignoring the fact that due to the graduation dress code she was wearing heels instead of her boots. She’d taken the picture the second she got up on the chair. The second after, the chair had collapsed, Kay had been thrown back into Ray, who had fallen back against Gumshoe, leading to a domino effect that ended with everyone in a pile on the ground, except somehow Franziska, who had looked over the whole group, crossed her arms and lifted her chin, declaring that this was exactly why she hadn’t wanted to be in the picture. Everyone had burst out laughing at that. Klavier had suggested they try again, but after checking the picture, Kay had declared it perfect.
Ray certainly enjoys the effect the picture has on people. It gets the most stares out of any of them. Both Miles and Franziska are well known prosecutors, though they look like bickering children in the picture, and international idol Klavier Gavin looks ridiculous ducking for cover. But that’s not really why it’s his favorite.
He’d tried to explain it to Kate once, when he’d first put up the picture. The closest he’d come to expressing what it meant was “It’s a family photo.” Ray has even found himself gesturing to it when people ask if he has any kids. And maybe it comes down to the normalcy of it. They all met each other through bizarre and stressful situations. But that picture, despite how strange it looks, there’s something so… mundane about it. The difficulty of getting everyone to stand still and act normal long enough to take a picture, it’s something that Ray hadn’t really had before. But having this picture, it’s a reminder that however weird it is, Raymond Shields has a pretty fantastic family.

Seven Sins Of Lace
Lust
"Sie Sind impossible," Ludwig scowls. "It's not my fault that I want to eat you up whenever I see you~" Jace coos. From the look on Ludwig's face, he is not impressed. Jace chuckles and leans closer to Ludwig, smirk firm on his lips. "I don't know why you insist on being so difficult, but I suppose that side of you is what draws me to you, like a moth to a flame~" "Ich vill burn Sie," Ludwig scowls. Jace's smirk merely widens. "Then let's burn together."
Greed
"Luddy-kins, we should buy up all the coffee, everywhere." Ludwig stares at Jace, did he hear that correctly? "Vat?" Jace blows out some air boredly, draped over the tabletop of Ludwig's kitchen table. "All the coffee should belong to me." Ludwig continues to send Jace a blank look, did someone slip the other some alcohol? "Is Sie drunk?" he ends up asking." "Drunk on looooove." "... Vat?" Jace lifts his head to send Ludwig a cheeky grin. "Want to kiss me sober~?" Ludwig shakes his head and simply walks off, leaving Jace to his plans of coffee-domination. 'Greedy demon.'
Envy
"Later, love~" Jace blows a kiss at a giggling woman, lounging in the doorway of his quarters. His shirt is still on the couch, one of his shoes temporarily missing, though Jace has a feeling he'll find it in the bathroom? Whatever, he'll find it later. "Ich see zat Sie is ze same as ever, aren't Sie? Herr Arani." Jace looks up before smirking as he spots Ludwig leaning in the doorway of his own borrowed quarters. Since he's not on a mission, Ludwig has discarded his coat, instead wearing the sleeveless white top that he often wears under it, showing off his toned arms. "Ah, Luddy-kins~ Spying~?" "Hardly," Ludwig rolls his eyes "I am merely waiting for my own company," Jace's smirk widens just a bit as his eyes narrow a little, "Really now~?" his voice is a purr, causing a shiver to run up Ludwig's back. "Ja," Ludwig tosses him a smirk of his own "Sie charge, Fraulein Moira." Jace blanks at that. "Wait, Vesta?" he blinks "What for?" Heck, he wasn't aware they even talked? "Ich don't see how zat sind any of Sie business, Herr Arani." The elevator gives off a ding and both exorcists watch as Vesta steps out of it, sharing a quick glance with the woman who was waiting for it to arrive, before the nameless exorcist leaves for downstairs while Vesta moves down the hall. She raises an eyebrow when she notices Jace, "Morning?" "Morning, love~ What are you doing here so early in the morning~? Come to have some fun with me~?" Jace asks easily enough. Vesta scowls and opens her mouth to reply, but Ludwig cuts her off. "Again, zat sind none of Sie business, Herr Arani." Vesta closes her mouth, smirking lightly as she sees Jace's eyes narrow. "There you have it," she says "and just so you know, it's not YOU I've come here for. Later, Jace." she says as Ludwig steps aside to let her into her chambers, something she makes use of. Ludwig sends Jace one last smirk before closing the door with a small bang, the sound of the lock falling into place shortly after. Jace scowls lightly as he stares at the innocent piece of wood. 'Over my dead body...'
Sloth
He buries his face into his pillow a little more, not quite wanting to wake up just yet. "Sie should get up," is muttered next to him. "Sie alarm clock has gone off four times now." "Hmm..." Jace smiles slightly as his arms wrap around a waist that dips in just a little "I know some part of me is up," he murmurs, abandoning his pillow to nuzzle golden hair. The comment earns him a swat to the arm. "Sie has a debriefing, does Sie not?" "I'll cancel, no problem." Jace tosses a leg over Ludwig's legs, pressing their bodies even closer than they already are. "Ich vill not let Sie cancel Sie debriefing." Ludwig scowls, trying to look back at Jace over his shoulder, though all he can see is messy platinum blonde hair. "How about I debrief you, hm?" Jace murmurs, one of his hand sliding down, to the top of Ludwig's briefs; he never gets why the other insists on dressing before sleeping, he's only going to end up undressed in the morning anyway. Ludwig flusters, spluttering out some German words indignantly. Jace takes these words as a, 'yes please' and, much like a lion, he pounces. "Let's spend all day in bed~" he smirks before yanking the covers over them, shrouding them in darkness.
Pride
"I don't see what the big deal is, Luddy-kins. You look fabulous~" Snicker. Amethyst eyes narrow, "Sie just laughed at me, did Sie not?" "Of course not, I don't know how you can say that~" a grin, meant to placate the other but not quite succeeding. "Ich can't believe Sie is drawing amusement vrom zis," a scowl "Nein, Ich actually can. Is Sie not in the least affected by wearing zis, zis monestry? Has Sie no pride!?" Uncontained laughter, "Oh Luddy-kins, you're just sulking that you look better in a dress than I do~" "Hmph!" "Don't worry, love~ You'll never look as fab as me no matter what you wear~" a wink. "Sie really has no pride, does Sie?" "None whatsoever~"
Gluttony
"Err... Luddy-kins?" a tenative tone. "Vot." an annoyed look. "What... exactly, are you doing...?" a questioning glance. "Can't Sie see?" an impatient tone. "... All I can see is you eating nothing but snickerdoodles for the past... what, ten minutes? Without stop. Are you okay?" An uncomfortable look. "Of course Ich am fine," a miffed huff. "... Why are you eating them all at once?" Confusion. "To make sure zat no one else vill," a roll of the eyes. "O... kay then," even more confusion "You just... enjoy it, then." Oh, so much confusion. "Ich vill," a huff. "Right, you do that," a resigned sigh, before the focus returns back to the TV, rather than the near-non stop crunching next to him.
Wrath
"Vot, Herr Arani, is zat." Jace blinks at his fellow blonde innocently, as if he isn't currently throwing out an empty box of snickerdoodles. "Nothing~?" He tries, an easy grin hiding the discomfort he is actually feeling. He hadn't expected Ludwig back yet for at least another hour or so - just enough time for him to get the golden blonde exorcist a new pack. "Are zose," the words are spoken dangerously calm "My snickerdoodles?" "... Probably~?" The grin is starting to look a little strained as Ludwig's eyes narrow slowly. "... I am getting you a different pack, Luddy-kins. Don't worry, I will," Jace says before adding quickly, "In fact, I'll get you two, okay? How's that?" He honestly hadn't intended to eat them all. He just wanted to try one and see what Ludwig liked about them enough to turn him into a psychopath the moment someone even looked at them a second too long (really, Jace hadn't expected Ludwig to react like that to something other than his hair), and before he knew it, his hand was grabbing at empty carton, the oil-stained packaging the only thing left. Ludwig looks, in one word; unimpressed. "Die." "Ah Shi-"Never piss off a generally unfriendly German.
