The Corner2Corner Crochet Tutorial Masterpost

One of the most versatile crochet patterns is the corner2corner, or c2c, crochet pattern. Working your way up diagonally from the bottom corner to the top corner is not only a fun way to crochet a project, it also works up rather fast. Which is absolutely amazing when you were born with little to no patience, like I was😂🤣. This pattern is also very easy and thus very beginner friendly.

A little fun fact: the corner to corner pattern lends itself very well for grapghan crochet, so I’ll link a few tutorials on how to do that as well.

Yes, I’m putting this out before it’s done. I know it’s bad form, but I’m impatient!! I’ll be updating this post as I go, and reblogging when I make Big Progress, so check back next year! ^_^

BTW!!! All counted instructions are XL, but I’ll try to explain how you can adjust to your measurements!

Materials!

These are the references I used for colour matching, plus the shiny sprite if you like it better. So you don’t have to look it up :3

Yarn weight is 4/medium/aran.

Like 3 skeins tomato colour. I’m using Caron Funfetti Cakes in Ruby Orange and I think I’m in love with it.

3 or 4 skeins white or off-white.

1 skein guacamole green.

2 skeins gold yellow.

2 skeins light yellow.

Size 5.5 hook! This will not change!

Darning needle, just in case.

Scissors.

Stitch markers.

Back

Importance! I haven’t done the dovetail here. That part is also super optional, you can end it however you want.

measurements needed

CHAIN, Width of your shoulders

(X) ROWS, Length from shoulder to armpit — this is your sleeve width, and where you will begin to change colours

(Z) ROWS, Length from last orange row to tailbone — how many solid white rows until you split the tail

How To:

Begin with Orange

After chaining across (50 for me), single crochet for (X) rows without increasing. Prepare two skeins of white, and mirror colour changes.

^^ or you could use graph paper/a drawing app to map out the pattern however you want.

Single crochet across for one row. (SOLID WHITE)

FLO or BLO single crochet across. (Empty loops should be on wrong side)

Single crochet across for (Z - 2) rows, increasing twice on each side every other row. Like this:

** Sc in 10, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 8, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 10.

Sc 54.

Sc in 5, inc, sc 10, inc, sc 20, inc, sc 10, inc, sc 5.

Sc 58.

Sc 11, inc, sc 10, inc, sc 12, inc, sc 10, inc, sc 11.

Sc 62.

Sc 6, inc, sc 13, inc, sc 10, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 13, inc, sc 6.

Sc 67.

Sc 10, inc, sc 13, inc, sc 8, inc, sc 8, inc, sc 13, inc, sc 10.

Sc 72.

Sc 15, inc, sc 12, inc, sc 14, inc, sc 12, inc, sc 15.

Count from each side to find the middle. Mark the stitch(es).

Following is one half.

Sc 38, do not chain. turn. skip first stitch.

Sc 5, inc, sc 20, inc, sc 10.

Sc 39, do not chain, turn, skip first stitch.

Sc 10, inc, sc 11, inc, sc 16.

Sc 39, sl st. turn.

Skip slip stitch. Sc 6, inc, sc 20, inc, sc 11.

Sc 40, do not chain. etc.

Skip first stitch. Sc 13, inc, sc 25.

Sc 40, slip stitch into remaining hole.

Skip first stitch. Sc 20, inc, sc 19.

This is where I quit. Repeat these steps on the other side of the back. One row will be weird where you’ve stitched in the same direction twice, but is barely noticeable.

Tail

Attach your mustard yarn to those back loops you left open. Slip stitch across.

Repeat the first** full set of increases you did on the back. Chain 2.

Double crochet across— double crochet meta now

Evenly space 4 increases on next row.

Repeat last two rows [dc across, inc 4]

Filet time. Map these out in advance, as your stitch count will differ from mine.

On the final solid row, do not skip stitches. Double crochet a few, chain 1, and go back in the next stitch for. You guessed it. More increases. We want drama, damn it!

Repeat [dc X, ch 1]
