My Fandom Journeys
Tumblr media
Hi, I am Morgan Dawn. I am over 60 and have been in fanfiction/fanvid fandom for 30+ years. I have a love of fandom and its history. I am disabled and use voice recognition software to write so there may be typos and the occasional word salad. Please feel free to reblog or link to my tumblr. I love to meet fans by phone or video and live in the SF Bay Area.
Look for my fandom history posts under the #fandom history tag and my personal experiences across 30 years in fandom under #my fandom journeys
Fun things I am working on 1. Scanning and preserving fanfiction fanzines from the 1960s-2000s
2. Digitizing fanvids made on VCR videotapes (1980s-2000s)
3. Promoting a DIY Oral History project for fanfiction/fanvid/fanart/cosplay (transformative) fandom. Grab a friend and join the party
4. Documenting fan run conventions, fanzines and fanvids on Fanlore, the fan-run wiki run by the Organization For Transformative Works (OTW).
My Asks are open but I often take long breaks to rest and recharge so if I don't get back to you, please be patient
Note: this blog is for adults only. If you are under the age of majority in your country, please pass it by.

robot suguru
i genuinely have no idea where this idea came from but im rolling with it...
Suguru was more than well aware of what he was. He had wires hanging off his "bones" - which were really just reinforced iron held up by his metallic joints. The only thing "human" about him was his skin, pale and with a strange warmth he was sometimes uncomfortable by.
Satoru was so close- too close for his mind to function properly. Satoru had removed half of his face plate to work underneath the mess of colorful wires tangled about each other. His dextrous fingers poked and prodded around, and it would've felt stranger if he didn't do this multpile times a day. His excuse? "Just wanna make sure you don't breakdown."
It was silly, because he shouldve done it right the first time to avoid the issue all together. But, if he were sane, he wouldn't have made a robot to be his friend.
"Ah, hand me those tweezers, Sug?" He says it so sweetly, a ghost of a whisper against his face. Well, half of it anyway.
He obediently reaches to his left with a tray of tools resting beside his spot on the chair. He quickly hands him the tweezers, followed by Satoru's warm smile in return.
He has to resist the urge to kiss him once again.
Suguru stays so still, he rarely ever moves his lips for fear he might mess him up. He doesn't think he could ever live that disappointment down.
However, for some reason, today is different. He feels... bold?
"What are you working on now?" He asks, conversationally.
Satoru gapes for half of a second before letting his face fall back to normal. He could never get Suguru to speak before- what's so different now?
"Just some upgrades." He quirks an eye up at him as he continues to sort through the wires and attach some to each other.
Suguru pauses, considering the vagueness of the response.
"Do I want to know?"
"Probably not. You might think it's stupid." Gojo responds honestly.
Suguru shifts, causing the tools to clatter and Gojo to lose the wire he had a tight grip on. It startles them both, but for some reason Gojo looks at him like he's intrigued.
"Sorry... Uh-" Suguru coughs- a nervous habit learned through observing Satoru. "I need you to tell me." He holds onto Satoru's wrist with a human-like delicacy that would shock him if he hadn't gotten to know Suguru personally over the past five months.
His smile is wide, genuine, and full of child-like glee. Suguru coming out of his shell was always a wonderful sight to behold.
"Well, since you insist." He tosses the tools aside, wiping his hands free of debris and stares into his eyes. "I'm adding a feature that allows for things like... love."
Suguru's face flushes deeply, and for the first time in a while the warmth of his own skin doesn't seem to bother him. Idiot. If only Satoru knew that he didn't need a new upgrade to feel things like love. He felt it everyday. It was strongest in the morning, when he'd wake up from his recharge and spot Satoru quietly tinkering, creating new things to add to Suguru's software. The feeling never dwindled, it just balanced between intensities the way a tennis ball between two rackets would.
For now, he would hide his flushed face and keep his useless knowledge to himself. Because what human would want to love something so inhuman?
i might make another part to this if ppl really like it hehe :DD also not proofread srry :(

First art on a new tablet!
Grian having a crisis due to Watcher things. c:
I talk about my new tablet under the cut if your interested!
So, as an early birthday present I got an inexpensive portable tablet called a PicassoTab. I've had it for a bit but I've mainly used it to take notes for my externship and other things using the Squid notes app but I've finally sat down and pulled up mediabang and done real art.
So what do I think of this tablet?
The PicassoTab is an inexpensive general tablet that supports a real drawing pen. Basically, its a cheap iPad and apple pencil. Except I would definitely NOT call it cheap. Its actually a really nice little tablet and pen combo and I'm quite happy with it.
I'd liken it to my large Ugee tablet in terms of draw feel. Its very obviously a tablet and does not at all feel like drawing on paper. This can be a major downside for some artists to PLEASE keep that in mind. While I prefer my Gamon as far as draw feel, since I've used the Ugee before its not a huge downside and the portability makes up for that less than desirable draw feel.
The pen uses a single AAAA battery which isn't ideal imo. While it keeps the pen smaller and more pen sized, its a hard battery to find outside of online stores. Its not rechargeable so when the battery dies then you need a new one. Though there are rechargeable AAAAs out there, I dont know if they will fit as rechargeable batteries aren't the same size as their normal counterparts.
HOWEVER, I've been using this thing almost CONSTANTLY for over 2 weeks now and there is no sign of the pen dying so I think its got a good battery life and the passive discharge is minimal.
Whats nice about the Picasso is that its a general tablet as well as a drawing tablet. It has access to the play store and runs on android software. It came with 2 drawing apps installed and I really didn't care for them. But with access to the play store I was able to download mediabang which is a free software app that works wonderfully. It doesn't have all the same options as clip studio but its more than enough for the sketch book experience I want from this. I did make this art as a finished work on the Picasso but I didn't get it to replace my Gamon, just to replace the chunky sketchbooks and notebooks I used to carry around (and use less paper).
The other positive about it being a general tablet is that I can use it as a notebook, too. I write A LOT. Notes, lists, planners, ect. My house is stacked with notebooks of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I have SO MANY pens, too. Like WAY too many pens. But because the Picasso has access to the play store I can use the note app Squid to replace all of these notebooks and pens. I now carry around about 12 notebooks and counting in my purse and the notebooks have unlimited pages. Squid also lets you edit and move text after its written so its pretty easy to reorganize notes without rewriting everything.
So ya.
100% recommend if your looking for a portable sketchbook/notebook tablet.

absolutely love your fics! if you’re still taking requests, I think a rodimags sickfic would be adorable!!
this fic was written in April and I finally got around to editing it ;--; thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy:3
Ao3 Link
A chill crawled along trembling plating; its frosty fingers digging into the transformation seams like shards of ice. Minimus Ambus curled tightly into a ball as a frame deep ache rolled across his body. A dull, throbbing pain echoed in the center of his forehelm, his processor sluggish under the tight building pressure. Nausea threatened to flip his tanks, leaving him to swallow down acidic balls of static.
Minimus was well and truly sick.
He wasn’t sure of the exact cause. An internal system scan showed him free of any physical damage and he was clean of any infectious malware corroding his software. The only blip he could see across his vitals was a small system bug, a coding error his internal processor was struggling to correct.
It happened from time to time, though it was often rare to feel it affect him so deeply. His system was prone to bugs when he swapped between hardwiring into the Magnus armor and disconnecting into his current frame. He wasn’t sure why his frame sometimes hiccuped in its recalibration sequencing but, alas, it was not completely unexpected. Irritating nevertheless.
Distantly, Minimus wondered if the other prior users of the armor suffered the same or was it purely due to the inadequacies of his smaller frame?
He groaned as another tremor wrecked through his chassis, letting his optics offline as he tried to regain a semblance of composure. While this bug was a bit more severe than he was used to, he was not going to shirk off his responsibilities. The very thought of taking a sick day set his processor ablaze. All his duties, both per his station and self-imposed, would be unaccounted for without a proper replacement. He’d have to reassign them all, to make sure the proper mech was assigned the right segments of his job.
It would…be simpler to just move his shift back. A small nap would provide him adequate rest while his system defragged the coding error. The estimated time for a total defrag was just two breems if he settled into a deep recharge. It would give him ample time to take up a later shift and complete his tasks.
Yes, Minimus thought to himself as he settled further into the berth, just a small nap.
He made the change quickly, optics already offlining as Thunderclash valiantly agreed to swap desk duty with him. Minimus could rest easy knowing the ship was in good hands until his nap finished. His recharge parameters started kicking in and he drifted into an aimless, deep slumber.
A loud knock echoed across the dark abyss. Minimus jolted at the noise, his audials ringing at the abrupt sound as his spark rattled in his chassis. It took an agonizingly long moment for him to realize where he was, his blind optics scanning the room.
His optics spied his orderly desk alongside the severe outline of the Magnus armor and a calm washed over him, though the drumming ache in his joints was still there. Slowly, he curled into his bed, using his arms to cradle his pounding helm. He just needed to fall back into recharge, chase the quiet slumber. According to his internal clock, his defrag was not even halfway done and for once, the prospect of rest sounded preferable to marking tasks complete on his HUD.
The knock rapped against his door again, more persistent this time in a quick, rapid staccato. Minimus groaned quietly to himself as he tried to make himself smaller in the berth.
A wild thought struck him as he struggled to settle, one he would only blame on the delirium of his sluggish, sickly frame.
What if he ignored the call?
The idea was not only against his very character, but a deeper, more delusional part of him almost reveled in the depravity of such an act of selfish negligence.
But it was not without good reason.
His frame was too achy and weak to possibly entertain the thought of having anyone see him in such a state. Minimus wasn’t even wholly sure if he could get himself out of the berth at all. If he didn’t answer, whomever it was would just leave and catch him some other time. They could send him a memo, call his comm if it were truly urgent. Besides, the doors were locked, with only a select few with override authorization-
A sudden click had Minimus’s optics snapping over as he watched the door slowly slide open, a red and yellow figure standing at the threshold.
“Yo! Mags?”
Bright light flooded the room and Minimus turned his helm into the berth to avoid the blinding brightness. The light bringing about his helmache twofold.
“Oh. Scrap. My bad, Mims.”
At the soft shhhtck of the doors closing, Minimus peered up to see Rodimus walking towards him. Deceptively, Minimus thought he could see…worry? on his Captain’s faceplates. The thought caused his chest plates to tighten uncomfortably.
“Captain?” Minimus croaked, his mind running through every possible problem that could have arisen in his absence and to cause Rodimus to look at him with that horrible pinched expression.
Another mutiny? Pirates? Word from Cybertron? An explosion in the labs? Anything pertaining to Whirl?
He tried to sit up, to give his Captain his full and proper attention- never mind how inconsiderate and unprofessional it was to receive his Captain while still laying in his berth. However, as he lifted himself up, a wave of nausea curled in his intake and he immediately thought perhaps it would be better if he remained prone. It was still gratingly unprofessional but not as much as purging at his superior’s pedes.
He felt…exposed on his too big berth. When the quarters had originally been assigned to him, adjustments had been made to fit Ultra Magnus’s large, boxy frame. It was perfect for when he was wearing the armor, but without it…the berth felt ridiculously large. Far too large for a standard size bot, much more so for a minibot like Minimus. He didn’t want to even think about what it would look like if he were in his truer, smaller form.
“Pits,” Rodimus crept closer, his expression morphing into something decidedly worried. “You look like slag, Mims.”
“Thank you for your thoughtful assessment,” Minimus groaned. A shiver traveled down his spine and Minimus could feel his denta clatter together.
Rodimus graciously ignored the snarky comeback. “Are you sick? Uh, should I get Ratchet?”
“No,” Minimus nearly bolted up right once more. The sudden movement made his processor spin and he quickly fell back onto the berth, bringing his servo up to cover his optics. The room was spinning. “I’m fine. It's just a small system bug.”
“Sure.” Rodimus sounded anything but convinced. “It’s not like you to skip your shift.”
Minimus frowned behind his servo. “Skip? My shift isn’t until third rotation.”
He had swapped with Thunderclash, responsibly making sure he wouldn’t leave a gap in coverage. He had reassigned himself, leaving appropriate room for recovery. His defrag was only estimated for 2 breems and it wasn’t even halfway over.
Rodimus snorted. “Yeah, that was over a breem ago. Megs took your shift for you and told me not to bother you.”
“Oh.” Minimus swallowed around the word.
A quick glimpse at his defrag estimation window still showed half left to work through, but time lapsed showed near double that what had been estimated. It looked as if the defrag had stalled, struggling with a nasty tangle of mixed up coding. In the midst of his slumber, Minimus had been unaware, his recharge attempting to conserve power.
Embarrassment curled around his throat and Minimus felt his stomach flip. Failure, even when medically induced, was still a shameful, humiliating feeling.
 “Why are you here?”
“You think Megatron can just tell me what to do?” Rodimus huffed. A warm servo pressed against Minimus’s exposed forehead. “Primus, you’re icy. Are you sure you don’t want me to get Ratchet?” Worry tinged his Captain’s words.
Originally, Minimus had taken Rodimus’s concern as something surely going catastrophic on the ship. He hadn’t considered the possibility it was over his well-being.
It shouldn’t make his spark spin at the thought but…it was rare to find Rodimus concerned about anything, much less him. It wasn’t that Rodimus was an unkind mech, but…Minimus was unused to the treatment all the same.
“I’ll be okay,” Minimus murmured shyly, his words slow under the delightfully warm, heavy weight of Rodimus’s hand on his helm. “I just need to rest. Once my system has done a thorough debugging, I should be back in right order. I can make up for my missed shift and issue a formal apology to Megatron.”
During the debugging, most of his internal systems were stalled until the problem was sorted, which included thermal regulation. While his frame was well above critical chill point, Minimus was cold. Normally, he would have resorted to using the Magnus armor for heating, subrouting its ventilations inward for additional warmth. However, Minimus was worried that hardwiring in would leave the armor vulnerable to catching the system bug and while it was a small, measly thing, he didn’t want to risk any damage to the armor.
Rodimus snorted an unamused laugh. “Only you would worry about making up work when you can barely keep your optics online. It’s fine. Megatron’s got nothing going on anyway. If anything, he should be thanking you.”
Minimus felt unnaturally soothed by those words. “Of course, Captain.”
“Need help warming up?” Rodimus asked.
Minimus hummed an affirmative. He opened his mouth to give instruction on where Rodimus could find a thermal tarp. He didn’t keep any in his quarters but if Rodimus went to supply closet 3B24, there should be extras and-
The edge of the berth creaked and Minimus felt movement.
He let his optics online slowly, just in time to see Rodimus shimmy onto the berth and flop down beside him.
“What are you doing?” Minimus asked. He tried for indignation but it fell short and sounded more pitiful than anything else.
“Well,” Rodimus huffed as he scooted closer, “I run a little hot and since you're cold…”
Minimus raised a concerned optic ridge but before he could swat Rodimus away, warmth swept against his frame as Rodimus pulled him closer.
“Oh,” Minimus murmured, halfway between a grasp and, embarrassingly enough, a moan.
“Told ya.” He could hear the cocksure grin in the Captain’s voice but found no need to dismiss it. Not when Rodimus was so heavenly, blazingly correct. Despite himself, Minimus pressed closer until he could feel his pedes knock against Rodimus’s knees. “Feels good right?”
Admission was…too much. Minimus may be borderline snuggling with his Captain, but he would not further feed Rodimus’s ego, especially when any affirmation felt like a confession. Even allowing Rodimus this crossing of boundary felt like a blatant confession, admission, something too vulnerable. Thankfully, Minimus’s ailment seemed to allow for perfect plausible deniability. Which was great because Minimus…didn’t want to give up this warmth any time soon.
“Aren’t you on shift?” Minimus asked blearily. He knew he could check the schedule and confirm this but…for once, Minimus would find himself okay if Rodimus decided to lie. He would be purposefully oblivious.
“Nah,” Rodimus stretched out. “I transferred that to Drift to come investigate your situation.”
Minimus hummed, a shiver wrecking through his body making him curl close to Rodimus’s too-warm plating. “How diligent.” He meant it bitingly, but it almost came out complimentary.
Above him, Rodimus snorted, servo coming to rest against the center of Minimus’s strut. The warmth made Minimus melt, any remaining tension in his frame seeping away as he laid slack against his captain.
“Besides,” Rodimus shifted a little, settling further into the large berth, “it would be un-diligent of me to leave you unattended.”
Minimus bit his tongue as his processor nagged him that Ratchet or First Aid would be better medical professionals to call upon attendance to his ailment. Instead, he pressed his face into Rodimus’s broad chest plate, knocking his forehead against his Autobot badge. He even ignored the incorrect negative affixation.
“Responsibility is a good look for you, Captain.”
“Jeez Mims,” Rodimus leered, though his tone was too soft to hold any real edge, “skipping shift and flirting with your superior; you must really be out of it.”
Weakly, Minimus lifted his servo to lightly tap Rodimus on the lips, grumbling a soft shhh. In the retreating motion, he scrambled for the edge of the tarp hanging around their waists.
Seeing his wants, Rodimus reached for the tarp easily, pulling it up to rest loosely at Minimus’s neck. Tiny engine vibrating in a quiet purr, Minimus let his optics flicker off, content to listen to Rodimus’s inner mechanics whirl softly in his chassis. “Sleep, Mims,” Rodimus murmured quietly. Distantly, at the edges of his sensor net, Minimus could have sworn he felt the warm drag of digits tracing along his spinal strut. “I’ll watch your back.”

Time management rules
Time is an invaluable resource, and effective time management is the key to achieving success in both personal and professional spheres. In a world where demands on our time seem endless, mastering the art of time management becomes crucial. This article will explore essential rules for effective time management that can help individuals enhance productivity, reduce stress, and achieve their goals.
Tumblr media
Set clear goals
The foundation of efficient time management lies in setting clear and achievable goals. Whether short-term or long-term, defining objectives provides a roadmap for tasks and activities. Break down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks, making it easier to prioritize and accomplish them.
Prioritize tasks
Not all tasks are created equal. Prioritization is key to effective time management. The Eisenhower Matrix, for instance, categorizes tasks into four quadrants based on urgency and importance. Focusing on high-priority tasks first ensures that essential objectives are met before less critical activities.
Create a schedule
Developing a well-structured schedule is fundamental to time management. Allocate specific time blocks for different activities, including work, breaks, and personal commitments. Stick to your schedule as much as possible to build consistency and discipline.
Learn to say «No»
One of the challenges of time management is the constant influx of requests and distractions. Learning to say no to non-essential tasks or activities that do not align with your goals is crucial. Politely declining can free up time for more important endeavors.
Utilize time blocking
Time blocking involves dedicating specific blocks of time to particular tasks or types of activities. This method helps in maintaining focus and preventing multitasking, ultimately enhancing efficiency.
Embrace technology
Leverage technology to streamline tasks and save time. Use productivity tools, calendar apps, and project management software to organize and prioritize activities. Automation can also be employed for repetitive tasks, allowing more time for strategic and creative endeavors.
Take breaks
While it may seem counterintuitive, taking regular breaks is vital for sustaining productivity. Short breaks can rejuvenate the mind, enhance focus, and prevent burnout. Incorporate activities like stretching, deep breathing, or a short walk to recharge.
Review and reflect
Regularly assess your time management strategies. Reflect on what worked well and what needs improvement. Adjust your approach accordingly to enhance efficiency and adapt to changing priorities.
Set realistic deadlines
Be realistic when setting deadlines for tasks. Unrealistic expectations can lead to stress and decreased productivity. Assess the time required for each task and allocate deadlines accordingly, considering unforeseen challenges.
Continuous learning
Stay open to new time management techniques and strategies. Attend workshops, read books, and explore online resources to discover innovative approaches that suit your needs. Continuous learning ensures that your time management skills evolve and remain effective.
Mastering time management is an ongoing process that requires dedication and practice. By implementing these essential rules, individuals can create a balanced and productive life, achieving their goals with efficiency and minimizing stress. Time, once lost, cannot be regained, making effective time management a valuable skill for personal and professional success.

Azuka Amucha Shares Time Management Strategies for Busy Lawyers
Tumblr media
In the demanding world of law, time management is not just a skill—it's a necessity. Lawyers often juggle multiple cases, client meetings, court appearances, and a seemingly endless stream of paperwork. Without effective time management strategies, the risk of burnout is high. Azuka Amucha, an experienced attorney, understands these challenges and offers practical, actionable advice to help busy lawyers regain control over their time and improve their work-life balance.
1. Prioritize Tasks
One of the most effective ways to manage a heavy workload is to prioritize tasks. Amucha suggests starting each day by identifying the top three tasks that must be completed. These tasks should align with your most pressing deadlines or the highest-impact activities. By focusing on these key priorities, you can ensure that the most important work gets done, even if the day doesn’t go as planned. This approach also helps reduce the stress of trying to do everything at once, allowing you to concentrate on what truly matters.
2. Delegate Effectively
Delegation is another critical component of time management. Many lawyers feel the need to handle every detail themselves, but this can lead to inefficiency and burnout. Amucha advises lawyers to delegate administrative and routine tasks to paralegals or support staff. This not only frees up time for more complex legal work but also empowers your team and improves overall productivity. Effective delegation involves clear communication and trust in your team's abilities, ensuring that tasks are completed to a high standard.
3. Time Blocking
Time blocking is a strategy where you allocate specific time slots for different activities throughout the day. For example, you might set aside blocks of time for client calls, research, drafting documents, and court preparation. By organizing your day in this way, you minimize distractions and create a focused environment for each task. Amucha emphasizes the importance of sticking to these blocks as much as possible to avoid the inefficiencies that come with constant task-switching.
4. Leverage Technology
In today’s digital age, technology can be a lawyer’s best friend. Tools like case management software, digital calendars, and task management apps can streamline your workflow and help you stay on top of deadlines. Amucha encourages lawyers to embrace these tools to automate routine processes, organize tasks, and improve communication with clients and colleagues. Leveraging technology effectively can save hours each week, allowing you to focus on more strategic aspects of your practice.
5. Set Boundaries
Finally, setting boundaries is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Lawyers often find themselves working long hours, which can lead to burnout. Amucha advises setting clear limits on after-hours work and making time for personal interests and family. This might mean turning off work emails after a certain time or dedicating weekends to rest and recharge. By setting these boundaries, you can ensure that your personal life doesn’t suffer at the expense of your professional responsibilities.

Hello there. I have had this little idea rattling through my brain
A Desmond who has recently run away from his home but have not yet found a place for himself in the wide open world. And – he ends up in Turin, for a while. Going at saving up some money to move further
But – he is still young. Getting a job is one thing, but finding a place to stay that wouldn’t bleed his savings out has been harder. Even more so, if he was looking for a place that wasn’t 50 types of shady
One of his freer days, he ends up stumbling across a small cave. Kind of like the ones we have to push through in new game trilogy. A vertical crack, really. And with nothing better to do, he decides to explore it
The place this crack leads to? The Grand Temple. An earthquake caused that crack to appear, and another one would have originally closed it a year or two later. And while there are no power sourced, here, to activate the temple en large… We do have Origins with its silica that can be found right in the temple, as an example of small-scale power source
It’s a pure stroke of luck, but Desmond manages to activate a small, small section of the Temple. Not enough to draw Juno’s attention. But enough to make it – a place to live? To explore? Maybe managing to somehow to connect to the place with modern tech – again, on pure stroke of luck because who know that sticking a cord to that one spot in the platform that kind of looked like a jack, would work?
Eventually, say, in a year, Desmond has to move on. But in that year? Desmond learns just a little bit too much to not be noticeable as he goes on. Imagine it like the result of regular late-night Google binging. He’d just look up one thing, that leads to another, then to another
Odd things to include:
Desmond could use touchscreen tech straight off once it popped up. Better than anyone else who knew him. Also tended to complain about it being slow
Casually correcting someone in the bar and getting into a deep discussion about some Niche@TM branch of science that was a rabbit hole Desmond spent some time looking through in Temple
Odd preferences in lighting
Tron: Legacy premiere left Desmond with an intense feeling of Déjà vu (the movie aired in 2010)
Desmond probably did not have the intended reaction to Animus
=============================
Additions from teecup:
All this google would totally lead him to be a regular on a lot of conspiracy theory boards. The idea of ancient aliens are the premise of myths and legends will make him have a ‘you annoy me but you give me the weirdest and most interesting questions’ relationship with one of the regular users there (who turns out to be a bespectacled man we all know).
Instead of a cord, maybe the glowly lines recharge his equipment or something like some kind of wireless charging ports XD
All of Desmond’s exploring made him find the thing that makes the ‘ambrosia’ that taste like cardboard. Still, it’s free and he feels full just eating one bar so, even if it’s possible that it’s not all that safe, he still uses it so he wouldn’t have to budget for food. Depending on how big we want the dispenser to be, if it’s small enough, Desmond could haul it out of the Grand Temple when he leaves because ain’t no way he’s gonna let go of that bad boy. Buying food and cooking becomes more like a treat for Desmond. (He also learned how to add seasoning to the Ambrosia so it tastes like… well… seasoned cardboard)
It would be funny if Desmond found the Isu equivalent to a 3D printer and, while the crack isn’t big enough for Desmond to take out say the motorcycle of his dream that is absolutely more scifi than anything out in the market today, he could use it to print really good forgeries like a birth certificate, documents required by school registrars… maybe even money?
In the end, Desmond’s fiddling with Isu tech made him too interested in technology in general and he tried out engineering and computer software classes, half just pretending he was supposed to be there and half actually giving forged documents too good to be found out by current tech and experts. Maybe he even becomes friends with two certain blondes who have issues of their own although he doesn’t stay that long but he definitely made an impact on the two of them.
And with his Frankenstein knowledge of both Isu tech, googling and the few classes he took in various colleges while he does his city-hopping just to be sure no one from his parent’s cult finds him, he starts to be a regular in tech and machinery chatrooms, becoming friends with a certain black-haired young woman who has the weirdest but most interesting ideas that made Desmond’s mind go ‘ooohhh, but what if…’
In the end of all of these, it’s not Abstergo who finds him first.
Nor is it the Assassins.
No.
The first ones to make contact with him and asked if he wanted to fuck society up?
Erudito.

Tea Time Tall Tails (FNAF SB Fanfic)
Combining a few cute suggestions from Ao3 for this one! The_TRUE_Fanfiction_Princess: Somehow we discover a setting that makes us make mouse sounds? Gaiko: Reader cheering up Sun or Moon after a bad day? Or alternatively, Reader and the rest of the Rat fam have a game night / gossip party just sit around and spill da tea XD
This chapter is a standalone in-universe scenario for 'I Think I Smell A Rat', no previous reading required! All you need to know is you're a lil robot repair rat who lives in the walls of the plex and you're pals with Sun and Moon.
EDIT: I ALMOST FORGOR!!!!! The new stylish little bowties the rats have are inspired by THIS AMAZING FANART right here by @shirajellyfish!!! Everyone go look at it right now its so cute
This chapter contains: - Silly fun times with the boys! - The rats all make rat noises now, and if you know your rats you'll know that some noises mean a rat is scared or in distress, but for the purposes of this fic, I'm declaring right here that when the repair rats make the noises everything is fine, they're just randomly pulling audio files from a folder called 'misc rat sounds' some software guy put together from synthesized sounds. The squeaks are just cute rat sounds! No rats were harmed during the making of this fic lmao - This really is just a silly fun fluffy chapter ^_^
Ao3 link here!
The main fic this is based off of here: (I Think I Smell A Rat)
Tea Time Tall Tails
You wouldn't say you had a favorite task per se, you just enjoyed doing the tasks and seeing them vanish off your little list and appear again in the network's completed task archive. And there were definitely some tasks that were easier than others. But of all the tasks, you sure did enjoy fixing the arcade machines when they broke quite a lot.
All the arcade machines in the plex had either been built or modified after purchase to accommodate repair rats. They had ports just your size in the back, right by the power cable, and the ones built by the company had steep little paths along the inside walls for you to climb.
You weren’t sure what it was about the arcade machines. Maybe it was just that fixing one had been your very first task ever upon activation. Maybe it was how simple they usually were to fix, making for a quick reward of ticking the task off the list. You weren’t sure, but you were in good spirits tonight. You’d gotten to fix two arcade machines, and with all the rest of your tasks done as well, you were on your way back to the nest for a quick recharge before you got to see your very tall friends in the daycare.
Charging took longer than expected; there was a decent update waiting for you to power down and install it. A very brief and uncaring glance at the file told you this was actually the second part of a different update you'd received this morning. You'd had to go to parts and service for that, as there were apparently some small new parts to install and older parts to replace. This whole 'update' thing was more a very minor annoyance than anything, and you quickly put it out of mind once you were awake once more. You were excited to get to the daycare and hang out with your friends!
When you finally arrived, you were thrilled to see a few more of your repair rat friends were already here as well. Ever since Sun had extended the invitation, the daycare had become almost a hub for any rats with some free time. You and the other rats, as it turned out, were somewhat starved for games and play time. You all worked so hard all the time, and before you’d met the daycare attendant, none of you had ever really taken time off to relax or have fun. It was always busy busy busy, work work work.
Now though, you all had lots of games to play, and Sun and Moon never got bored or lonely after closing anymore either.
“Tiny friend!!” Sun greeted you with as much enthusiastic delight as always, bounding over to scoop you up the moment you set foot in the daycare. “How are you??”
You waved your tail and used the light at the end to blink out a reply in morse code. To your surprise however, the moment you began to blink your light, a sound jumped straight out of you.
You and Sun both froze. You swiveled your head around in surprise, but you and Sun were the only ones around. Your rat friends were all the way across the daycare at one of the plastic tables. A moment later, you processed that the noise had come from you.
"Did you just… squeak?!" Sun cried. He was practically vibrating with delight.
"I… think… so…?" You slowly blinked in reply. This time you heard quiet chittering noises coming from you as you did. Those sounds were definitely coming from you. You paused to take a closer look at those update files. "Ah. I've acquired a speaker box, it seems. And several audio files."
"Yes!! That's right, a few of your friends told me you all got an update! Just when I thought you couldn't get any cuter!!" Sun bounced from side to side and gave your head a little pat. "You make cute little mousey sounds now with your little… squeaker box!" Sun giggled. He held you up closer to his grinning face plate. "OH!! And look at this, it's so teeny I almost didn't see it! You've got a little bowtie now too, ahhh!"
You had to admit, the pun was amusing. You weren't sure about these noises, though. They didn't really have a practical use. Who thought this was a necessary update?? You had actually noticed the bowtie; that had been a new addition after this morning's parts and service updates, but you hadn't really paid it much mind at all. Much like the noises, it didn't seem all that necessary to your tasks. "It appears I'm set by default to make random noises when certain conditions are met. Tail light activation, task completion, being in standby mode for more than a minute… I believe I can turn these settings off easily enough."
Sun gasped, as if you'd committed a horrible offense. "NOOO! But the noises are so cuuuuute!! Pleeease please pretty please keep them on??"
"They don't serve any purpose! In fact playing noises all the time is going to take up more battery power, so I'll be less efficient!" you argued.
"How much battery would they take?"
"…" You ran a quick calculation. "I estimate 0.063% battery power will be used for these noises per each charge."
"Aw common, that's barely anything!" Sun pouted, slumping over and drawing his sun rays in slightly. "I guess if you really want to turn the noises off, that's your choice of course…"
Sun looked so sad, like this was a true travesty for him. You deliberated for a moment. You hated seeing Sun so upset. "…I suppose I'll leave the settings on for now. Just while I'm in the daycare, though."
Sun instantly brightened, springing back up as his rays all popped back out. "Yippie!!!"
You still couldn't grasp why this mattered so much to him, but you'd humor him anyways.
"Oh, but we've gotten distracted by your adorable new features!! How are you, tiny friend?" Sun asked.
“I’m great! I’ve been having a great day today. I fixed some arcade machines,” you told him. You squeaked and chirped as you did, and Sun started bouncing again.
“Oooh fun! I’m so glad to hear that!” Sun’s rays swayed happily. His grinning face plate took up nearly your entire field of view as he held you right up at eye level. You couldn't see precisely what his optics were focused on, but you got the feeling he was admiring your little bowtie.
You returned the question. “How are you?”
“No need to worry about me tiny friend!!” Sun did a spin, hands closing slightly around you in a protective manner. He’d never once dropped you before, but he was always extra careful anyways. “Today was a little tense for us… A few little friends weren’t playing nice, but they were playing much kinder after Moon had them take a nap! So everything is fine, no need to worry. Also!! Your friends and I were just talking about having a tea party, would you like to join us??”
Something about Sun's tone had made you wary, but the mention of a new game immediately stole your attention. “Tea party??” You’d never played that game before! “Sure!”
Sun happily carried you across the entire daycare in a flash, bringing you to join a small number of other rats all hanging out at one of the small plastic tables.
Sun set you down at the table, then started setting up while you greeted the others. One of your nest mates was here, RR-TI. They seemed delighted to see you, and you happily waved your tail at them in greeting. Everyone else seemed to have gotten the update already as well; you saw tiny bowties all around.
“Okay, everyone gets their own teacup! And here’s the teapot, and we’ve got snacks too!” Sun set out colorful plastic cups and saucers and a matching teapot, as well as a big plate full of plastic wrapped packs of fazbear-themed animal crackers, all in the shapes of the glamrocks.
Not that any of you could eat or enjoy the snacks, but you didn’t yet know the rules of this game so you couldn’t really say much.
Sun went on. “Tea parties are easy and fun! All you have to do is take turns telling stories. They don’t have to be real, but friendly gossip is encouraged! There is another thing you have to do, but I don’t think it applies to repair rats. You must hold your pinky out like this when you take a sip of tea!” Sun demonstrated, lifting his teacup and sticking his pinky finger up in the air. He tipped the empty cup into his grin. “Mmm, tasty!”
You weren’t the only one confused by the rules of this game. Several rats flashed questions at once, and a small chorus of chirps started up.
“But the cups are all empty!”
“Are the snacks like points? Do we earn them later?”
“How do you win tea party?”
“What kind of stories do we tell?”
Sun gently set his teacup down on his saucer. “There’s no points in tea parties, sillies! This isn’t a game you win or loose, its just a fun pretend game!”
“Pretend?” You and the other rats shared confused looks.
“Yes, pretend! You act like something is true, even if it’s not! For fun! Here, why don’t I start us off since you all seem a little confused…” Sun took the teapot and carefully poured nothing at all into his teacup. He lifted his cup next. “I was chatting with the mermaids earlier and you’ll never believe what they told me! They said that miss Roxanne Wolf can count all the way to one trillion! And she’s the best at it, too!!”
“I can count to one trillion. That’s not very hard,” RR-TI said.
     A few other rats agreed.
“Who are the mermaids?” another rat wondered. “I’ve never seen a ‘mermaid’ in the building before.”
“There are no mermaids! Just like there is no tea,” Sun explained.
“No mermaids??” Your friends just looked more confused. “But you claimed to have spoken with them a minute ago?”
“That was just pretend. I made it up!” Sun said patiently. He took another ‘sip’ from his empty teacup, pinky raised.
“Made it up?? But why?” RR-TI asked.
“For fun! I thought it would make for a more interesting story. That’s what’s fun about tea parties, you can tell any kind of stories you like! It’s just for fun, just pretend!” Sun gestured to you. “Why don’t you give it a try?”
You froze up, still confused as to how this game worked. “Um…” You scrambled to come up with the correct way to take your turn. Sun had said there was no winning or loosing, not even any points, so you supposed it didn’t matter much if you messed up. Still, you were at a bit of a loss. “I… was talking to… the werewolves, and they told me… Montgomery Gator makes delicious soup?” You sniffed at your cup, but there was still no tea in it, and you had no pinky finger to lift regardless.
“Not bad!!” Sun applauded your efforts.
“I just used your story as a template and replaced a few details,” you admitted.
“I could tell! That’s okay though, you still did really good for your first try, even if it wasn’t entirely original. That's how we learn best sometimes! Am I right to think that maybe you're all still a little lost?"
You and the others all agreed- this new game was very confusing.
"I don't know how to play this game correctly," you told Sun.
"There's not really a right or wrong way to play pretend! All you have to do is have fun with it," Sun said.
How strange. All the games you'd played prior had been very structured. There were rules, points, strategy. You'd had a lot of fun with those, but now that you were thinking about it, you weren't even sure how 'fun' was supposed to work. If the only important rule of this tea party game was to have fun and 'pretend'… you actually had no idea how to go about either of those tasks.
Looking around, you saw your other rat friends at the table were in much the same predicament. You noticed the sub-network you and all the other repair rats in the building shared had a few low priority query pings on it.
     Task Assistance: How to fun?
     Task Assistance: How to pretend?
These queries gathered more confused questioning from other rats than answers.
"You all still look pretty confused. Let me ask you all this… what things do you think are fun?" Sun asked, folding his arms over the table.
"Chess is fun!" RR-TI said. A few other rats agreed.
"Tag is fun," another rat chimed in.
"The arcade machine tasks are fun," you added.
A different rat chittered at you and shook their head. "Arcade tasks are NOT fun. Those are boring."
You were about to defend your favorite task when Sun jumped back in.
"That's all great!! And remember that sometimes different things are more fun for different people!" Sun pat you and your almost-enemy on your heads with gentle fingertips. "Think about that feeling you get when you do these things. It's a lighthearted pleasure, feels just like a fresh charge, right?"
You and the others agreed with this.
Sun gestured with his hands while he explained, the bells on his wrists jingling merrily. "The best kind of fun, in my opinion, is when you have fun doing something that isn't also a task that needs doing, or a chore that needs completing. Although those can be fun too! But my favorite fun is when you do it just simply to have fun! Pretend is really great for that, because there's no other tasks to it! No points or scores or winning or loosing, you just be silly and playful and it's fun!"
"No task? Just fun??" RR-TI wondered.
You thought you were starting to understand. You weren't sure if you could do anything if it wasn't a task of some sort, but you were willing to try. "I think I get it. Can I try again?"
     Sun nodded happily. "Of course!!"
You raised your tail and started another 'pretend' story. "I was doing my tasks the other day… when… the whole building flooded! There was water everywhere, and I had to swim around to find… the drain. To get rid of the water! But I couldn't find it… And then Sun's mermaid friends came along and helped me find it, and I opened the drain, and the water went away."
Sun applauded, ecstatic over your efforts. "That was really great!! Good job, I loved it! You even remembered my mermaids, how sweet!"
You were delighted with the praise. Was pretend really that easy? All you had to do was tell lies, essentially. But in a way that was, undoubtedly, fun.
The other rats seemed to be catching on as well.
"Okay! I have a story too," RR-TI said.
"Tell us the gossip!!" Sun exclaimed, setting his face plate atop his hands, his elbows on the table.
"Freddy Fazbear… has a secret golden hat that can… turn you into a plant when you wear it!" RR-TI proclaimed.
"Ooooh no way! I had no idea!" Sun put his hands over his grin in surprise.
"He doesn't really, that I know of. I made it up," RR-TI assured.
"That's right, I'm playing along! That can be part of the fun, like how tiny friend- er, RR-YN mentioned my mermaids in their story," Sun explained.
     "Oh!" RR-TI nodded in understanding.
You and the other rats and Sun went around taking turns 'gossiping' and telling outlandish stories. You even played off each other, referencing the other's tall tales in your stories, or mentioning that one of the others had been there for the fictitious events, so they could play along with it.
Sun would occasionally sip his nonexistent tea, pinky out, and you realized that was part of the fun too. Pretending there was tea in the cup. For your next story, you pretended there was tea in your cup as well, and braced your paws on the rim to act out sticking your nose in the cup and taking sips of tea. You proclaimed the tea to be delicious, and Sun thanked you kindly and told you he'd made it himself from scratch.
It was strange, but you really were having fun. There was no task, no points to win or loose. You were just being silly and saying silly things just for the delight of it. Your friends were all in on it as well and would play along with you, and you were all having fun together.
When it came time for Moon's turn, you and the other rats were practically experts at tea party. The lights all dimmed and Moon's glowing red optics were met with a small crowd of delighted blinking little lights and happy squeaking.
"Moon, guess what! I was turned into an octopus the other day!" RR-TI declared.
"I'm the one who turned them into an octopus!" another rat chimed in.
"…Ah. I see Sun has taught you all the vital skill of lying," Moon said, squatting in typical hunched fashion where Sun had been sitting.
     "Fun lying," you corrected.
"And you're all making noises now too. Sun did leave a note about that." Moon watched you all with amusement. Your rat friends were going back and forth now about octopus sorcery.
"There was an update earlier. I would have turned my sound settings off but Sun seemed deeply upset at the idea," you said.
Moon's eye lights rolled. "Typical. He mentioned no less than four times in his note how adorable you sound. They're just silly rat noises."
"I can turn them off for you, if you would rather," you offered.
"…I didn't say that." Moon absently picked up his teacup and 'sipped' his tea.
     "Pinky out!!" several rats cried.
Moon scoffed. "That's Sun's silly rule he got from the kids."
"It's one of the only rules of tea time. You have to stick your pinky out," RR-TI insisted. The other rats backed them up with affirming squeaks.
"I don't see any of you sticking your pinkies out," Moon said.
"Sun says repair rats are exempt from the rule, since we don't have pinkies," another rat told him.
"Unbelievable. Bending the rules for just anyone… what has the humble tea party come to." Moon 'tsk'ed and took another sip of tea, still not abiding by the 'pinky out' rule.
Your rat friends were all in distress over the broken rule, but you knew just what to do.
"Well you know what happens when you break the rules of tea party…" you started.
"What, will you put me in time out? I'd like to see you try, tiny terror." Moon spun his face plate at you.
"I don't need to… I've already poisoned your tea while you weren't looking," you said.
Moon froze, then stared down at his teacup. He gasped and dropped the cup, then dramatically gripped at his chest. "You poisoned me?! The betrayal…!"
"We warned you not to break the rules." You shook your head at Moon.
"Grahh!" Moon gasped and coughed, then fell backwards. He lifted a shaking hand into the air, then proclaimed one final "blegh." before going limp and laying still on the floor.
Your rat friends all chirped and cheered, popcorn jumping about, delighted by the performance. Moon laughed quietly from the floor.
The night went on, and your friends came and went. Some had tasks to do, others needed to charge. You stayed with Moon and kept an eye on the network, where word of playing pretend had spread like wildfire. There were now lots of low priority 'pretend tasks' with nonsensical assignments like 'create a dragon' or 'repair the air' or 'fix 20 turtles'. A few rats were 'completing' these and adding task notes like 'the dragon is my friend now. We are going to go bowling together'.
Despite this newfound love of silly pretend games, there was something still bothering you in the back of your mind. You turned to Moon as he cleaned up the game of checkers you'd been only half focusing on. It had been just you and Moon at the table for a while, though a few of your rat friends were currently playing tag on the other side of the daycare.
"Hey Moon… how was your day today?" you asked.
Moon paused, glancing up at you briefly before resuming his counting of the pieces. "Fine."
     "Are you sure?"
Moon didn't look at you this time. He recounted the pieces. "What did Sun tell you?"
"He mentioned something about a few little friends not playing nice, but they were better after a nap," you told him.
     "That's all?"
You nodded. "Is there something else?"
"…" Moon put the lid on the box and tapped his fingers rhythmically over the colorful cardboard surface. "A parent was rude with us is all. Happens all the time."
"But it still bothered you?" you pressed.
"It bothered Sun. I'm totally fine," Moon insisted, laying his hands down firmly on the box.
"Oh, I didn't realize we were still playing pretend."
Moon shot you a look. He set the game aside and folded his arms. "…Fine. I'm slightly bothered. But it's stupid and doesn't matter. I shouldn't be upset."
"I don't think it's stupid," you told him.
"…Thanks, tiny terror," Moon mumbled quietly. "It actually is nothing major, just irritating is all, when parents are rude and impatient with us. Sun already forgot all about it when he learned you make little rat noises now."
You were pleased to know you'd managed to cheer up Sun without even really trying. He really hadn't seemed too bothered, beyond the intentionally vague recollection of how his day had been. You'd have to talk to him about that later and make sure he knew he could tell you about things like this if he wanted. As for Moon, on the other hand…
"How about you, are you feeling better about it now?" you asked. "Would looking at my new little bowtie help??"
Moon laughed lightly. "It is a very stylish little addition. I'm doing much better now, tiny friend. Thank you for listening."
You would smile if you could. You straightened up and chirped happily. "You're welcome!" You paused as you realized something. "Hey, you called me 'tiny friend' instead of 'tiny terror'!"
Moon folded his arms and swiveled his head around to face the opposite direction. "Did not."
     "You did!"
"Your new update must have an audio processing bug." Moon snatched up the checkers box and quickly left to go put it away.
You played with your friends the rest of the night, and soon it was time to charge, and Sun and Moon had to get ready for the day. You read over the pretend tasks on your way back to the nest, delighting at some of the tomfoolery taking place in the network.
You settled down to charge, eager to welcome a new day of tasks and unrelated fun. As you powered down, you thought you might just leave your new noise settings on after all.

How To Edit Quickly And Neatly
Editing quickly and neatly is a skill that can greatly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of any writing process. Whether you are editing your own work or someone else's, there are several strategies and techniques that can help you edit quickly and produce a polished final product. In this article, we will explore some of these strategies and provide practical tips for editing quickly and neatly.
Tumblr media
1. Create a Plan: Before diving into the editing process, it is essential to create a plan. This involves identifying the specific areas that need attention, such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, coherence, and overall structure. By having a clear plan in mind, you can focus your efforts on the most important aspects of editing and avoid getting overwhelmed by the entire document.
2. Take Breaks: Editing can be mentally exhausting, so it is important to take regular breaks to refresh your mind. Consider setting a timer for short breaks every 30 minutes or so to give yourself time to rest and recharge.
KECILTOTO Merupakan Situs Togel Online Terbaik & Terpopuler Telah Hadir Dengan Lebih Banyak Pasaran & Bonus Melimpah 2023!!!
3. Read Aloud: One effective technique for editing quickly and neatly is to read the text aloud. This helps you identify awkward phrasing, unclear sentences, and grammatical errors that may not be apparent when reading silently. By hearing the words spoken aloud, you can better assess the flow and coherence of the writing.
4. Use Editing Tools: Take advantage of editing tools available online or through word processing software. These tools can help identify common errors such as spelling mistakes, grammar issues, and punctuation errors. However, it is important to use these tools as aids rather than relying solely on them. Remember that they may not catch all errors or provide context-specific suggestions.
5. Focus on One Aspect at a Time: To edit quickly and neatly, it is helpful to focus on one aspect of editing at a time. For example, start by checking for grammar and punctuation errors, then move on to sentence structure, clarity, and coherence. By breaking down the editing process into smaller tasks, you can maintain focus and ensure thoroughness.
6. Eliminate Wordiness: One common issue in writing is wordiness. To edit quickly and neatly, pay attention to unnecessary words or phrases that can be eliminated without changing the meaning of the sentence. This will help streamline the writing and make it more concise and impactful.
7. Check for Consistency: Consistency is key in any piece of writing. When editing, pay attention to consistency in spelling, formatting, capitalization, and style. Ensure that headings, subheadings, bullet points, and numbering are consistent throughout the document. Inconsistencies can distract readers and undermine the overall professionalism of the writing.
8. Seek Feedback: Another effective strategy for editing quickly and neatly is to seek feedback from others. Ask a colleague, friend, or family member to review your work and provide constructive criticism. Fresh eyes can often catch errors or suggest improvements that you may have missed.
9. Proofread Carefully: After completing the initial editing process, it is crucial to proofread the document carefully. Proofreading involves checking for any remaining errors or inconsistencies and making final adjustments. Take your time during this stage to ensure that your work is error-free and polished.
10. Practice Regularly: Like any skill, editing quickly and neatly improves with practice. Make it a habit to edit your own work regularly or volunteer to edit others' work whenever possible. The more you practice, the more efficient and effective you will become at editing.
In conclusion, editing quickly and neatly requires a combination of planning, focus, attention to detail, and practice. By following these strategies and tips, you can enhance your editing skills and produce high-quality written work.

My favorite ways to play GBA
Tumblr media
by Amr (@siegarettes)
The GBA is one of my all time favorite consoles. With an iconic, pocketable form factor and an expansive library of games, I’m still finding ways to enjoy it, over twenty years after its release. And with so many different options to revisit that library, it can be easy to get wrapped up in finding the “perfect” way to play it. But the truth is, so much of the handheld experience is wrapped up in the hardware you play it on, that the best option is going to be different for each person.
So today I’m going to run through my favorite ways to play GBA, why I picked them, and what makes each great.
***
Tumblr media
Before you start whipping out your wallet, look around your room, check your drawers, or dig through your garage and see if you’ve got a DS Lite hanging around.
This was my GBA standby for years, and it still remains a great option. With a great clamshell design, rechargeable batteries, a built-in backlight, and perfect compatibility thanks to its built-in GBA hardware, it’s an accessible and fuss-free way to revisit old titles. As a bonus it plays, ya know, DS games.
Audio output is clean, if a little bit low volume at times, but that can be fixed by pairing it with the right earbuds. The only real downsides are the aging hardware can make it a little harder to find good condition units, and the older screen and slightly higher resolution mean there’s slight ghosting and the image won’t fill the screen without stretching.
The DS might not have the fidelity of modern options, but it’s an off the shelf solution with nearly every feature you’d want, with minor compromise and zero setup.
***
Tumblr media
If you want something closer to the original experience, a modded GBA can’t be beat. I prefer an original model GBA, since it’s less cramped than the SP. With a new lens and an IPS screen, and custom shells, you can get a unit looking nearly like new, with an image that easily outdoes the DS, and of course, has perfect compatibility and integer scaling.
The biggest drawback is by far the price. The components for modding are reasonable alone, but quickly add up, especially if you want options like rechargeable batteries, or a fix to the noisy GBA headphone jack. Power consumption rapidly becomes an issue as you add additional mods, or use a flashcart. At one point I thought I had bricked my console, but it turned out the combination of the increased power usage of my flashcart combined with the new screen was simply drawing more power than the depleted batteries could put out.
Even with those hassles and drawbacks, when I need that uncompromised, perfect compatibility, this is my personal favorite way to play GBA. Modern screens might give an experience closer to emulation than slightly blurred, washed out colors of unmodified hardware, but it looks so good it’s hard to make a fuss about it.
If you’re lucky to live in a place where you can access professional modding services, through Etsy, eBay or otherwise, you can buy a pre-modded GBA for not too much more than it’d cost to build it yourself, and save yourself the anxiety of trying not to break anything in the process.
I got mine from Gamechanger Mods in New York. They’ve got tons of fantastic custom colorways, and Greg was prompt and quick in making adjustments and sending the unit back and forth. Honestly, it was easily worth what I paid for it, but it’s difficult to recommend this option for anyone other than the most particular players.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
For people not going for original hardware, emulation is the easiest and best option. There’s a bit of a preconception that emulation is inherently and noticeably worse, but with over 20 years of emulator development, emulation has progressed to the point where, with the right hardware and software, it’s near indistinguishable from the real thing. The process itself introduces some inherent latency, but unless you’re playing a rhythm game or you’re a speedrunner attempting frame perfect tricks, you probably won’t notice. In return you get an incredible suite of features and flexibility.
For my money, mGBA is hands down the best out there, with incredible accuracy and robust features that I didn’t even know I wanted. Tuned correctly, performance was even consistent enough for me to play games with tight timing, like Rhythm Heaven. It can’t make me good at them though.
I do have to shout out VisualBoy Advance though, which hit early and paved the way for a lot of future efforts. I was legit emulating games as I kept current with physical releases, thanks to VBA.
***
Tumblr media
When I need a pocketable GBA emulator, to me the Anbernic 351P is the only option. The 351P has just enough power to run mGBA smoothly, with low latency, and just as importantly, has a screen that matches the GBA’s 3:2 aspect ratio, at a  perfect 2X integer scale. Basically no other portable emulator can say that.
The shoulder buttons are similar to those on a GBA SP, but with microswitches and landscape form factor closer to the original GBA, as well as a good dpad, four responsive face buttons, dual analog sticks that click in, secondary shoulder buttons, and a rotary volume wheel.
The same factors that made it ideal for GBA compromise the other systems it can play, but it’s generally still adequate otherwise. On top of accurate emulation, you can even configure it for save states, rewind and fast forward, and remap the controls as you please, which is a godsend in difficult action games like Mega Man Zero.
The biggest problem is how much work you have to do to get it up and running. It’s not even worth using the stock firmware, and you might as well throw away the SD card it ships with, leaving you to flash a custom OS and load up your own SD card with ROMs, if you want it to meet what I’d consider the minimum standard for emulation. No matter what firmware you go with, you’ll be stuck with Retroarch, which is a miserable hassle to navigate, even after you get over the learning curve.
Quality control is hit and miss too. My first unit had its headphone jack come loose through regular use, and the replacement I was sent had the same issue, even after I took extreme care with it. I ended up opening it up and resoldering the joints myself to repair it, which should NOT be a required step.
Personally, the 351P is still by far the best portable emulator in terms of features, form factor and price, but it’s up to you if all that work is actually worth it.

Now if price is no issue, and you somehow don’t care about portable play, the MiSTer project offers an incredible suite of alternatives to emulation. While software emulation still has it beat in flexibility, accessibility and diversity of options, a lot of the common conveniences are here, bolstered by an FPGA solution that emulates the system at a hardware level. It’s probably one of the most accurate ways to play GBA, barring original hardware, and still cheaper than trying to get a GBA Player running on modern screen, or modding a GBA into console form.
There’s a lot to love in the MiSTer’s GBA core--from the infinite controller choices, micro adjustments you can make to the display and sound options, and even support for the same rewind, fast forward and save states you’d get elsewhere.
By far my favorite feature is the 2 player GBA core. It’s a bit of a pain to import and edit save data, but it’s otherwise one of the fastest ways to get GBA multiplayer up and running, without the need for two systems, carts or link cables. There are so many ways to display the two screens, including outputting the second player to a separate screen. It opened up the possibility to easily play a lot of the multiplayer modes I’d never had the chance to check out.
I legit brought my MiSTer to my local fighting game meetup and played loads of multiplayer GBA games, some for the first time. We tried everything from Sonic Battle to competitive Mega Man Battle Network. All with our own controllers or arcade sticks.
***
Tumblr media
And those are all my favorite ways to play GBA!
Each of these are great options, but don’t get wrapped in thinking they’re the only choices.
Regardless of which way you choose to play the GBA, there’s an incredible library to dig into, with ways to personalize the experience to fit exactly the life you’re living.
The important part is to get out there, and play the damn games.
