fukurodani was actually your first choice for high school

you were accepted within a week of applying

the studying nights were finally worth something

you somehow ended up as the boys volleyball manager because your close friend konoha had BEGGED you to help them out for a “few weeks” bc you were the best

they couldn’t start practice matches without a manager

you had initially thought that it was awful

loud, sweaty, annoying boys

not your thing, right?

bokuto especially, he was so loud and so fucking sensitive and you could not stand it

shouldn’t a second year be a little… less?

it seemed like the only ones you could tolerate were akaashi and of course, konoha

asking akaashi “how do you deal with that every day?”

“you just need to liven up a little. its actually amusing.”

so you tried harder to not be a grumpy bitch to get used to being around all the nonsense

and it started to, well

be kinda fun?

the first time you realized that it wasn’t so bad was when the boys won every match at the spring interhigh qualifier tournament

this meant NATIONALS??

you had never seen your little first year besties so excited

you probably yelled louder than bokuto when they won

akaashi had invited you to a party at his house with the rest of the boys

this was going to be the first time you had hung out with them outside of anything volleyball related

aaaand they got you shit faced

(they were too, so dont worry)

you somehow ended up sandwiched between bokuto and akaashi on the dance floor

akaashi got dragged away by komi and that left..

… you and bokuto

you hesitated for a moment

but you both were so wasted that the dancing just continued and you realized for the first time

this is fun and you liked it

you knew bokuto was an amazing person with the biggest heart

with a sunshine persona that could cheer anyone up

you had always been super quiet and reserved, so its normal to be taken aback by this

but you realized for the first time..

how fucking boring that is

and so you danced, and you let the night carry you away

you didnt worry. about anything

you only heard the music and felt the boy behind you

it was one of the best nights of your entire life

they ended up losing in the third round of nationals to shiratorazowa

the whole team was super bummed, understandably

it was bokuto, who swallowed his despair

you could tell how upset he was but he stood from his seat on the bus and yelled

“hey! being sad isnt going to change the results, all we can do is work our asses off and try again next year!” 

he went on a whole speech and you could tell he was holding it all in and trying to be tough for his team 

you saw when he quickly sank back down in his seat alone that the tears started flowing

you couldn’t help but feel your heart shatter

when tf did you become soft?

you lived close to each other, so when you arrived back at the school late that night

he asked if he could walk you home 

bc he was worried about your safety

ofc you said yes

and you talked. the whole way. about almost everything that was on your minds

you even stopped and sat on the staircase that looked out over the river

you told him how well he did

and you told him he was strong for the speech he gave

you told him you could always see the passion in his eyes

that night

he looked at you, and he saw something different

you believed you were just making him feel better

but once the praise started, it was hard to stop

it was a mindless praise,

and it was something only he realized as you went on and on

giving you a hug as he left you on your front porch

“ill see you at school after the break!” he said

he turned and you watched him walk down the neighborhood with his head held just a tiny bit higher than before

your second year at fukurodani, and ofc, after the previous year you HAD to be manager again (bokuto, akaashi and konoha DEMANDED)

you were gonna do it anyway

“nominees on captains this year?” coach yamiji says

everyone knows its only between washio, sarukui and bokuto

“gotta be bokuto, hands down” 

bokutos were heard from around the room as they should

“okay im flattered guys but.. can i ask why?”

akaashi says what everyone is thinking 

“BOKUTO, not only are you our ace, but you are always the one who holds the team together, makes sure we are all on the same page.”

you had to chime in “dont forget that speech after nationals”

you sent him a wink it was definitely not intentional but it happened so we have to own it

also no, i DONT think i saw bokuto blushing

something was different about bokuto this year

he seemed more mature and vibrant, less whiney ?

he was always asking you to help him and akaashi work on their attacks,

which you never minded

and you three became inseperable

they would invite you over after late practices and you would laugh and play games

you hung out with the entire team

there was more of an effort from bokuto to be your friend lol

the moment you realized there was something different seriously different in the way you looked at him

was when he brought you a shell bracelet to practice one morning

“whats this bokuto?”

you were so joyed

nobody ever got you something just bc they thought of you

“it made me think of you, so i had to get it”

and it never left your wrist

bokutos heart almost burst every single day that he saw it

he started walking home with you every single day

and your faces would ache from smiling and laughing so hard

one day, your mother was waiting on the front porch when you and bokuto arrived in your driveway

oh fuck

“bring this boy inside, i want to meet him!”

so he came inside your home,

and that was a bad idea and not bc anything bad happened, but the opposite

you could not believe it as you stared at your mother doubled over in laughter at something bokuto had told her

as you watched him pick up your little 5 year old sister and spin her around as she giggled and told bokuto she loved him more than the entire world god bless

“hold on, i have something for you” he told her a few weeks later when he had been invited inside for dinner, yet again

watching in confusion as he pulled a shell bracelet out of his backpack and placed it on your sisters wrist

the same one as yours, but with a single pink shell in the middle

she looked so happy she could cry

you watched as she leaped in his arms and squeeled

and you fucking realized

that you were in love with kotaro bokuto

he kissed you for the first time

he finally did it

and it was in your bedroom

not an entirely special place but youre 17 and 18 years old,, what the hell did you expect

but there was something about it that just made you fall deeper

he was so gentle with his touch and was reassuring you how much he wanted to kiss you

and it all felt so perfect

one night, even after akaashi had left, bokuto asked you to help him with some recieves

it was just you two in the entire gym

there was a ball perfectly placed on top of all the others in the basket

so you picked it up

and right when you were about to throw it you saw red ink

at first you freaked and thought it was blood

so you flipped it over and in red something? it read

“will you be my girlfriend?”

you looked at bokuto in disbelief that this was even happening 

you dropped the ball and ofc said yes

he wrapped his arms around you and yelled so loudly before kissing you

you had learned to love his loudness, and everything about him

it was perfect

the first time he told you he loved you was right before a match and it was a quick

“i love you babe thank you” when you handed him a water before he jogged off

you couldn’t move from your spot by the bench

he didn’t even realize he had said it

until halfway through the game

and he fucked up some spikes

akaashi hit him in the back of the head

they eventually won the game and neither of you mentioned it until you got home

he laid in your bed with you and you both sat there in silence

“i love you too, bokuto.”

his eyes shot open

“you do??”

“well ofc idiot, i’ve been in love with you for a very long time”

so you told him when you realized you were in love

“when did you realize?” you asked him

“remember the first night we walked home together, after nationals?”

you ofc, do remember that

“i realized that night. you were so diligent and passionate about what you were telling me, and i realized that you cared about me and that i felt the same way. i knew i was in love with you from that very second by the river” 

the rest of the school year and being bokutos gf went something kinda like the following

“karasuno? who tf”

oh shit. karasuno.

tokyo training camp was fun, almost TOO much fun

why tf was this nishinoya kid always talking to you

“noya noya noya” bokuto tsked

shes mine, dont forget it kiddo or ill aim all my spikes right at your nose”

loud laughs

“bokuto. kuroo. this is your fifth rap battle. we are sick of it.” muttered kenma, 

you had to nod your head and agree.

ONE bokuto was enough. kuroo did not need to fuel the fire

“theres a serving battle at lunch” - akaashi

“that sounds so fucking stupid” - kenma

“the stupidest shit ive ever heard” - you

who won the serving battle? dont ask bc it wasnt bokuto and you dont need more tears to wipe today

nationals. again!

“babe. wear this.”

“is it clean?” 

“of course its clean what the hell.”

its his extra jersey

your little lol number 4 captain was giving you his extra jersey to wear at the matches

“i think it will give me good luck”

he regrets it

bc he keeps getting distracted

but he loves it still, and he loves you

and you love him. A LOT.

how did this crazy loud ass boy become the love of your life?

and you would do anything to make him the happiest boy alive

and he would do anything to make you the happiest person alive

and so after every match, when he would kiss you and tell you he loves you

you could always be confident that he meant it
