They Make Me Mad by The Selecter - I dont really know how to describe this song but Yeahhhhh. if any song could sum up my feelings towards the place i departed [well more eloquently than Fuck You by Lilly Allen] its this. also its a fucking great song. and i love the fic i used it for the title<3

2. What Makes A Man A Man Today [Slight Return] by Zounds - a fitting song for the year of trying to figure out who the fuck i am, its a song i sing along to every time it comes on bc what does make a man a man today? what affects who we are and how we see the world?

3. Concrete Jungle by The Specials - for all the times i put this on loop to survive the bus ride & classes "I can't dress just the way i want" "Leave me alone, just leave me alone" Yeahhhh

4. Suck the Blood from My Wound by Ezra Furman - hard to pick one from this album, a pretty late addition to this years music but one that went right to being one my fav albums, the spesific imagery of escaping and refusing to let them take anymore of your life brings this one out ahead, but its an album full of great songs

5. Cry Baby Cry by Zounds - another Zounds song about identity and confusion with it [though tbh thats their entire discography] "I dunno what I'm supposed to be" is a line that has really resonated with me this year for uhh totally no reason...

i always thought there were two ways to rediscover old stories that you don't remember writing and they are 1) oh no i can't look oh no oh no that's embarrassing, and 2) hey? this is pretty cool actually? this sort of really rocks?, but today i've discovered the secret third option. and it's 3) i guess in 2018 i wrote 1500 words of original fiction about thor (the norse god) and the easter bunny (the easter bunny) on a blind first date in a starbucks and it's a little haunting that this reads pretty much the same as most genuine fluffy scenes i've ever written, but littered with egg puns
