“Darkness and Light”

I miss you more than I miss the sunlight on gloomy days. For I can always rest assured that the sun will come back another day, perhaps even tomorrow. But with you, I don’t always feel that I have that luxury. I fear you’ll decide soon enough that you’re done with me, that I’m not enough and that you’ll go off to look for someone elsewhere. I know so much of it is in my own mind, but I still fear your leaving.

I fear not being enough more deeply than I fear the darkness, for it is not the darkness itself but what might lie within that is truly frightening. In my darkness there is the fear of not being good enough, anxiety and a need to love and be loved that I am simply incapable of shaking off, no matter how much I try to leave my worries at the door.
