before I get into the review, I like to say this will be more comprehensive than usual. I have always been giving out pretty long edge reviews in the first place. Still, just because Jennifer's books are a little bit lengthy and for those who've been reading this series ever since it came out, you guys know that her books are a little long, so just fair warning if you do not like reading long texts, which there is nothing wrong with two each to a cup of tea, but I will advise you. Her books are a little lengthy, so be warned.

So this whole universe is vast. It is connected with another book series that Jennifer has, which I haven't read yet, so I won't do a review on those because those are on my to-be red list, but they are interconnected. This is a perfect book series to read after Acotar, so if you have a hangover from them, I advise you to read this book series. I will have an Acotar review. We or discuss it later this month, but I finished the series last month, but I'm just now publicizing this because I was busy with finals. So we have Penelope, who is the maiden. She is a virgin, and she is kept in a cage all of her life by the ascended. Then we have Hawke, who is her bodyguard, and we do have that princess and bodyguard trope even though she's not a princess, but I like to say it. I won't spoil anything, but I highly recommend this series. There is smut galore, and the plot is impressive.

Hawke is sent to kidnap Penelope, but she doesn't know because they share a couple of kisses and something else at a brothel. One night Penelope sneaks out, and she falls in love with her. I love at first sight. She's a little bit more hesitant on the part, so we have that slow tension in that slow burn which we all love him. He ends up becoming her bodyguard after they meet, and he ends up protecting her and being her only bodyguard, so then she has to leave for the capital but

Then she realizes that he was sent to kidnap her, and this is after she has sex with him, so when she finds out, they end up fighting him. Then a couple of chapters later, she finds out he's Prince Castel, and she ends up stopping him in the heart. She thinks she has killed him, cries a bit, and runs away. Once he finds her, he drinks her blood because Castel likes his woman but is murderous. After all, he's in Atlantian, and if you love someone, it's a thing for Atlantians to drink their significant other's and nobody else's blood. But once he drinks her blood, he tastes a little bit of Atlantian blood in her, and he's like, oh, “you are an Atlantian, and you're going to come with me to Atlantia so we can get married.”
