You open your eyes to find yourself lying on a strange bed in a room you don't recognize. The room is, well, plain. Look, you just woke up and can't muster the energy to describe what you're seeing right now. The bed feels soft and fluffy unlike the one you use. Nonetheless, it's too early for your own taste. You groan and turn beside you.

White eyes greet you across the bed and your heart leaps into your throat. You meet the creepy familiar bear's piercing stare. He lies beside you, his white eyes glowing in its black sclera. You look away, trying to shake off the unease that fills you.

You could almost imagine it talking to you, saying good morning . The thought of it makes you strangely giddy and happy.

Weird.

As you avoid the gaze at the familiar, yet eerie teddy bear, you can't help but feel a strange sense of comfort in the otherwise unsettling room. The stillness of the space is palpable, yet somehow the teddy bear's presence brings a sense of calm to your tired mind.

You know this is not your room, and you should be panicking or be afraid, but the feeling is missing. You don't even know why. Instead, you let out a heavy, resigned sigh, as if you've accepted your fate, whatever it may be. The air is sweet, and the smell of pancakes fills your nostrils. You turn back to the other side of the bed to attempt to go back to sleep again. You can feel yourself drifting off to sleep. For a moment, you think that Michael is in a good mood before coming to a halt.

—Who's Michael?

Your heavy eyes suddenly snap open in fear before something reminds you that he's not a threat. (Michael is mean but Dad is meaner. Michael would never do what Dad does—no he won’t—) You release a shaky exhale  and you are suddenly more aware of the feeling of boogers in your eyes as you blink through the blurriness in waking up. God, your eyes feel puffy. Did you cry yourself to sleep again? You lick your lips and find your throat is parched. You need water.

Rising from the bed, you observe your surroundings. The top half of the walls, up to about waist height, is a clean white, while the bottom half is a darker, almost greyish tone. The room is dim due to the lack of windows and the absence of artificial light. Only a sliver of light seeps in from the crack of the ajar door (for some reason, it gives you a sense of relief that you aren't locked in again, wait— again?) giving you just the right amount of light to see the room. You don't like how it all seems familiar to you.

Toys are strewn about on the floor near the white closet. It's a child's room, you think, judging from the items that were scattered. Some of them were oddly all purple in color. Perhaps they liked purple since they had two purple drawers too. You looked at the other side of the wall facing the bed, where the closet door is slightly open.  You have a foreboding feeling that something is in the closet.

You were about to crawl off the bed when you noticed something felt off. You looked down to see what was supposed to be your limbs. They were… small.

What?

You sucked in a breath. A feeling of unease takes over and starts to rise through your throat. Your limbs suddenly feel strange, as if they don't belong to you. Your eyes quickly sweep across the room to find something . With clumsy movements, you get off the bed and trip twice before you can make it to the drawer, pulling the one at the very bottom. It's as if you know where everything is despite the fact that you're in a stranger's body.

(but is it really a stranger if you have a sense of who it belongs to?)

Finally, you manage to get a hold of a mirror that you got from Liz. (who's Liz?) You stare at your reflection, trying to make sense of what's going on. Your heart races in your chest, and you can feel sweat forming at your palms. With trembling hands, you raise the mirror to your face, trying to make out your features through the fear that's sweeping through you like a storm.

You stare at your reflection.

No. This can't be real.

As you stare into the mirror, the reflection that stares back is not your own, but rather that of a young boy with a black and white striped shirt with messy brown hair to pair with. His- yours? dark eyes are puffy and red from crying the night before, and his expression is one of panic.

It's familiar and yet unfamiliar. The face that you've only known vaguely behind a screen is now staring right at you in the face. You don't recognise it but the shirt and the room is more than enough to clue you in.

(you don't think about a maw of teeth that will eventually bite your head off-—)

You breathe, not noticing you haven't been breathing while looking at the mirror. Your eyes burn with a sudden familiarity as your vision blurs. Tears run down your cheeks like a crybaby that you are. Suddenly, a sob escapes your lips, and before you know it, you're in the midst of a full-blown meltdown, your cries echoing through the room with the mirror left forgotten on the floor.

You don't notice the closet door opening frantically and warm arms holding you close, whispering comforts and shushing you as you cry and sob, though you're not sure why.

(you hear Michael shushing you to keep it down before Dad hears it. you know you should stop crying but you can't. Dad hates it when you cry. Dad yells at you about a perfect family and Uncle Henry and you keep crying. that's why he locks you up in this room—)

You don't know.

(you know but you refuse to acknowledge it. )

You cry for the loss of your old body, for the boy who cried too much, for the girl who just wanted to play, for the boy who wanted to play as a pirate and all the children that's already gone and about to be gone because of your new father. A red Foxy mask is dropped in haste but you ignore it in favor of gripping — Michael's , your mind supplied— gray shirt tightly, not wanting to let go, aware that you may never get to hug him like this again if it goes the same way you think it is.

The stuffed bear on the bed looks at both of your figures, its eyes unblinking and unemotional as the darkness around you begins to deepen, and you find yourself slipping into a peaceful slumber.

Perhaps…

📃 - OK SO. without like, spoiling too many plot points, our main character is cara and she lives with her grandmother. her mom is dead and dad is out of the picture. one day theyre getting chased by these people that her grandma knows and cara gets thrown into an alternate realm full of fantasy creatures using her grandmothers amulet. she meets a unicorn named lightfoot and a bunch of other rad people and basically, starts a journey to save that world from the Hunters. the Hunters are an organisation who specifically hate unicorns and want them all dead, led by Beloved, and cara and her friends have to try and stop them from entering the world and wiping them out. its sooo so so good and i highly recommend it cause i have no one to talk to about it please god

unicorn chronicles: i loved unicorns as a kid and read it when i was in elementary school, and over the years its remained just as compelling and well written as i remember and like. god the whole concept is so godamn cool and all the subplots that get introduced are fuckign fantastic and like all the different creatures are amazing i literally cant sing its praises enough

howls moving castle: must i have a logical reason? is it not to vicariously live my fantasy of running away to the countryside with a wizard boyfriend, his demon and his apprentice?? for real though, its such a fantastic story with beautiful visuals in the movie and wonderfully compelling prose in the book, and esp in the movie the whole time travel subplot with sophie seeing howl and calcifer in the past and then howl finding her in the future makes me go feral

penumbra: gays in space. need i say more? im a huge slut for gay found family and especially in futuristic space, and im a huge big fan of the lgbt utopia its created. like yeah capitalism sucks but at least im not gonne get misgendered in space starbucks, u kno? all the writing and dialogue is so incredible and the SOUND DESIGN GOD, alex i know u specifically can relate when i say i would kill a man for sophie and her incredible sound design skills, like dude the dance scene in man in glass p2 you can hear every single individual step they take and every swish of junos dress and i jusT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god its so good, plus the whole the characters help me work through my trauma and repressed anger haha

911: this one is entirely your fault. so obligatory horny on main everyone on that show is so hot i want oliver stark to cradle me gently in his beefy arms oh my god. other than Men, the way it drives home the whole ‘you can’t save everyone, and it will kill you to try, so just focus on what you can do and keep living’ makes me so emo. the way it tackles big bureaucratic issues as well as closer to home interpersonal ones is amazing and i love how it shows people going through and dealing realistically with trauma.

treasure planet: again, who doesnt want to live in Cool Steampunk Space Travel Future? i really really love jims story and his arc, the way he deals with his trauma is uhh very familiar lol and his relationship with silver is like the ideal. the story is just the coolest concept and i love all the wonderful character design and animation, plus the soundtrack SLAPS and everything is beautiful

legend of zelda: ive been associated with this series from a very young age due to my name and as soon as i gave into my fate and looked it up for real i just kinda fell into it lol. i cant really tell you exactly what draws me to it besides ‘wow fun game!’ and ‘god i wish that were me,’ but like the absurd amount of detail thats put into each installment and the creative ways they retell essentially the same/similar story over and over is incredible

guardians of gahoole: so i had the same experience with this and treasure planet which is i remembered ‘oh hey this is a movie that exists and i cant clearly remember watching it, ill look it up :)’ and then it consumed my life for a solid 3 months. firstly this movie is absolutely gorgeous, the animation and framing is fucking stunning and the way they handled owls talking like people as far as the movement of their very inflexible beaks was amazing. it sort of has the same draw for me as warrior cats? secret animal society ft incredibly traumatic experiences and the characters dealing with it. like, the whole concept is just so fuckign wild and it works so well, i rly enjoy this niche genre.

💎 - alright trivia time, so guardians of gahoole is based on a book series and the movie only covers part of the first arc i think idk, BUT theres another series set in the same universe called wolves of the beyond that i devoured when i was younger! i didnt know they were connected for the longest time and when i found out i was :000, i still rly love wolves of the beyond and wanna reread it, as well as read the actual gahoole books. in the howls books, sophie is a redhead! also, markl is named michael and like a fully functioning young adult who ends up marrying one of sophies sisters. treasure planet is, obviously, based off treasure island but its so much better than the book dont bother reading it lol i tried and it was boring. there was plans for a treasure planet sequel that was fully scripted and cast but it was cancelled cause disney sabotaged treasure planet from the start with the shitty release and advertising and tldr we were ROBBED, also amelias concept was much more octopus like and while that wldve been rad im p glad she was switched to a cat for. several reasons lol. uhh i dont have a lot of Fun Facts abt the unicorn chronicles but for the longest time i thought there were only 3 books and then last year i found the fourth book by chance in a kitsch store and nearly had a breakdown i was so happy, like full on i started shaking and crying cause there was so much joy in my body i cldnt contain it.

April 2019🌦

Wow, April 1st and so much has already happened. There were 4 fights today. The first one was 2 guys on the back stairwell I didnt know. The second one was Eugene punching Michael in the jaw over minecraft. And the last two happened on my bus. We sat on the side of the road for an hour until we were cleared to leave. The cops showed up and apparently it's a big deal. After the first fight on the bus, a kid jumped out the window and ran home. Over all pretty entertaining cause I've never actually seen a real fight before (only been in them). My mom and dad also dropped of my moms bestfriend to prison in Dallas today. It was really hard on both of them. We know she'll be back soon, its not that long.

April 4th, I almost punched Kelly in class cause she wouldnt stop talking shit :)

April 5th, hi welcome to missing Calvin a fucking lot :( (update from April 30, fucking die bitch)

April 9th, Yesterday we did Staar rotations. I hung out with Scott and Blake the entire time. Since I got Scott's snap we've been texting alot and I found he likes me.

April 10th, I told Calvin I thought we needed a 1 week break and now hes threatening to break up with me. Scott's helping me through it so I'm ok.

April 12th, Scott and I facetimed yesterday and after that we played Zombies with Seth. It was fun but I kept having to go help my mom and dad with something. Today he walked me to my first class which is Geometry. I think its extremely obvious he likes me. It's cute tho, Kaylie approves.

I have been thinking about this alot recently and I feel like its the right thing to do. I’m gonna break up with Calvin when 8th period starts. I just cant wait to do it later, it’s killing me inside. I am doing it over text because I genuienly feel like my life would be in danger if I told him in person. I’ll let you know how I goes and how he reacts. Wish me luck.

April 14th, I forgot to report how the breakup with Calvin went. Honestly went better than I expected. I'm glad we broke up, that was a really toxic relationship.

April 15th, OMG OMG OMG ok. this happened like 10 minutes ago so bare with me I'm still a little bit shook. Sooooo Scott took me to the back of the stairs by the Geometry and Art hall and KISSED ME! KISSED! ME! It was very sudden and at one point my braces got in the way but it's fine, we dont talk about it. After that we were walking down the stairs he said "well since that happened I might as well ask you now instead of after school, would you do the honors of being my girlfriend?" obviously I said yes cause hi, I like him, we just kissed. I immediately texted Kaylie. Scott now knows I tell Kaylie literally everything about anything. I cant help it, she is my bestest friend in the entire world. She knows everything about my life and she has always been there for me. My stomach doesnt feel good so ima take a quick nap until 1st period is over.

bitch even MORE SHIT has happened! first of all, Scott walked me to every one of my classes today which was super sweet. When the last bell rang Scott and I met up and just walked around school since we were both staying after. We just went up and down stairwells and kissed for a little then went outside by the bus ramps. When we got their we started kissing again, then talked and hugged, then walked around. Imagine that but legit 15 times. One time we were kissing and he picked me and continued to kiss me. When it was time for me to go we walked past all of our baseball and football friends. They were all cheering him on and congratulating him. We walked to the front of the school then my mom arrived. We hugged and kissed goodbye and that was it. We've been talking since.

I found out Izzy likes this girl and I'm so proud of him. He seems so happy and he blushed when I was talking to him about her. I'm so happy for him :')

Scotty told me hes my new addiction to stop my original. hes funny thinking I can stop.

April 16th, I had to go to a mandatory drill team meeting today. I'm worried i might not be able to tryout cause my grades are too low for me to bring up. It's fine tho. idc anymore.

April 17th, I get to hang out with Scotty after school today again

skrt skrt its 7:37. Scott and I hung out where we did last time. We basically watched Infinity War and made out the entire time. There were alot of people around cause everyone was getting their physical. Gage saw us but idc about that. I think around 2 hours ago Scott texted me but as soon as I got home I passed out. He said his mom found out about us dating and i was nervous. He said he was getting out of the car and his phone turned on and both his lock screen and home screen is us and his mom saw. She said I was cute and he had good taste. Glad his mom approves lol, now I just gotta tell mine. I was planning on it when she comes back from San Antonio later this week but we will see.

April 20th, wow I haven't done this in awhile sorry lol. Today I went to my friend Jaydens house and went swimming. It was really fun. She keeps wanting me to talk to her cousin Seth who is the same ago as me. Little does she know I have a boyfriend UwU.

April 21st, its 1:08 in the morning lol. Scotty got abssss. I'm not complaining, it's a weakness of mine lol.

April 22nd, yesterday was Easter and it was pretty fun. I went to my cousins house and hung around 2 goats and like 50 chickens. I keep telling my parents I want a goat and they said I'll get one one day, it would just have to stay at my grandma's house.

I'm done trying to fix something this broken. I've cried too many tears over you. I'm done.

April 25th, Scotty and I stayed up till midnight watching Netflix on facetime together. We got it to where it was timed perfectly so it was like we were watching it together. I’m hanging out with him after my fashion show rehersal after 4 until 5:15-5:30. I feel way happier and amazing now that I am with him. He makes me happy uwu. A couple days ago Kaylie showed me these socks on Amazon that she really wanted and i’m gonna suprise her with a pair of them tomorrow. I bought 2 pairs so that we could be matching and cause they are super cute. I am kinda nervous about it idk why. I know she is gonna love them. I like giving gifts to my friends, especially Kaylie cause she is my bestfriend and I would do anything for her to be happy.

April 26th, I went to see Avengers End Game with Jesse and Evan and it was the best movie I have ever seen, I get to see it next monday which is amazing. I gave Kaylie her shiba socks this morning and she loved them of course. I’m happy I had the chance to get her something she wanted. Scott and I were sitting and lunch and Carlos sprayed his water bottle everywhere. It scared me alot lol.  

April 28th, first of all...friday....hottest thing ever omg. I went on a trail thing yesterday and it was fun ig. I'm at my grandparents house and everyone wants me to make food??? like why??? I'm lazy and I just wanna sit on my phone looking at memes. uuggghhh. I'm supposed to be getting my nose peircing today but I seriously doubt that will be happening. My mom keeps saying shes gonna take me but it never happens.

April 29th, I was supposed to get my permit today huy I didnt have my ssc so we gotta do it tmrw. I'm on ft with Scott and his cousin Maria is adorable and I love her

April 30th, I got my permit this morning and now I'm about to cry. Mrs.Clary is stressing me the fuck out and I cant handle it anymore.

( lost in japan. ) !!! when i first heard this song?!?! i was so appalled ?!? i didnt expect that from him AT ALL. i was so mf pleasantly surprised by it. it reminds me of a calm summer night i cant wait 2 fall in luv w a girl whilst listening 2 this song.

( where were you in the morning. ) ig i just like his slower songs fjskdf i don’t really have much to say abt this one other than the fact that even tho he got his heart’s ass kicked bc of this song, i feel so serene and at peace when i listen to it. i added it 2 my rainy day playlist.

BUT that doesn’t mean that i dont luv the song in general. it’s such a cute song and i wanna serenade someone with it tbh. u can def tell that ed sheeran helped write the song. u can just hear it.

( queen. ) i personally feel so attacked whenever i hear this song and also when he first says ‘it’s hard to believe’, i immediately say ‘that i couldn’t see... that u were always there beside me...’ it’s a BOP and u can’t deny that. i feel like this is one of those songs that’s gonna be better live than in the studio tbh. if he performs this live, i just know that he’s gonna have a goOoOoOoOod time.

( like to be you ft. julia michaels. ) it took me a couple of days to warm up to this song bc when i first heard it, i was like ?!?!? what is this. but the more i listened to the song, the more i started to like it. and tbh julia michaels SHINES in this song. her emotion while she sings is somethin else my dudes.

( youth. ) i had to write a presentation outline about shawn mendes for my friend, and i mentioned how this song sounds like an anthem for a post-apocalyptic/dystopian young adult movie. i love everything the song stands for, but musically? khalid’s and shawn’s voices don’t mesh very well imo.

( perfectly wrong. ) idk why this song is so low on this list?!? i love this song a lot. it’s so raw and emotional, and u can hear it in his voice when he sings. but it’s one of the songs that i’ve listened to the least in this album, and i think it’s bc it gets me really Emo™ whenever i hear it.

( in my blood. ) i think the only reason why this got #11 is bc of the amount of times i hear it in my everyday life. i’ve worn it out already, but that doesn’t mean i don’t put it on whenever i’m feelin like shit and i need a pick me up.

( nervous. ) IT .... PROBABLY JUST NEEDS MORE TIME.... FOR ME TO WARM UP TO IT..... it’s only.. okay ..... in my opinion..... the video was nice tho.

anyway. 5sos and atl yeah cannot go wrong atl has truly been just like, steadfast for me, like i think i heard them first in 2014 or 15? and since then theyve just been so consistent in my life i cant even explain to you how i know all the words to their songs i just do i dunno. think i discovered 5sos around the same time actually but atl has this like. i dont know. theyre so lyrically impactful to me. and i love the way theyve been so constant in their sound, like 5sos has really experimented and that’s dope for them but theyre not the same pop punk/pop rock sound that they once were whereas like, seventeen years of being a band and all time low is still crushing the pop punk rock scene and i just. appreciate them.

DUA LIPA FT. MIGUEL - LOST IN YOUR LIGHT [6.50] A duet we can agree on for once!

Maxwell Cavaseno: Strangest twist of the story here, folks -- Dua Lipa as embodiment of IG Filter Cool smeary pop: eternally succeeding at boring me to tears. But Dua Lipa going for the Laura Branigan of 21st-century dance rock with Miguel moving alongside her to steady out of rudderless expectancy and not be nearly so jarring: much more satisfying. Here's to hoping either or both of them continue down this road. [6]

Thomas Inskeep: Who could've imagined that Rick Nowels, one of the producers three decades ago of Belinda Carlisle's Heaven on Earth album, would still be at it in 2017, behind the board for a Moroder-esque single from British singer Dua Lipa? I've been fairly high on her for over a year now; she continues to show great taste in collaborators by working with not only Nowels (who, say what you will about his career, always seems to know exactly what he's doing) but R&B lovegod Miguel, who pops up to take second-verse and chorus-harmony duties here. To be honest, he doesn't really add much to the song, but a) I'm never mad to hear his voice, and b) "Lost in Your Light" throbs and pulsates like crazy to the point where nearly nothing else matters. This one is, as the Brits have been known to say, a corker. [8]

Katie Gill: I've been a Dua Lipa stan throughout her various appearances on the Jukebox and look, it's not gonna stop now. She's a consistently good hitmaker and even that awkward bridge isn't going to hamper my like for the song. The chorus is amazing, those drums are KICKING, and Dua Lipa and Miguel's voices blend together in such a wonderful way. [7]

Ryo Miyauchi: Dua Lipa's retreat to disco shimmer isn't bad, though it's too safe of a choice after taking over the party as the Bad Bitch in "Blow Your Mind." At least she does the retro duet justice together with Miguel, who gives back the same amount of sincere passion. [5]

Alfred Soto: Superb drums and Dua Lipa's committed performance, which includes harmonizing with Miguel, almost compensate for a mediocre song. I sympathize, though: I'd get lost in Miguel's light too. [6]

Katherine St Asaph: It'd be sad how thoroughly Miguel obliterates Dua Lipa in the middle third of this track, if that didn't mean we get a Miguel verse. [6]

Will Adams: Not nearly as scintillating a duet as last year's Miguel/Kacey Musgraves pairing, but "Lost In Your Light" is a strong iteration of present-day's dark disco sound, thanks mainly to the charisma of its performers. [6]

Joshua Copperman: This is the kind of shit I want to hear from Dua Lipa! My mom also happens to be a fan of hers, and I was ranting about we were discussing how even though she's basically fully formed as an artist, whoever is managing her keeps pushing her into places that she doesn't need to go, whether working with the producer of "Fight Song" and Martin Garrix or guesting on Sean Paul singles. This is the kind of song I've been waiting for her to do since "Be The One" first came out, matching that song's effortlessness but with some slightly edgy R&B production that serves her very well. Sure, the bridge is a bit Julia Michaels-y, but I'm just glad that Dua's finally doing something that sounds like her, rather than someone's idea of what a pop star should be doing. [8]

Ashley’s passion for design, home and country music inspired our This is Home series, a multi-week Instagram series that takes a deep dive into the meaning of home with influencers and artists. Expect exclusive room tours, jam sessions and learn how their newly designed spaces improved day-to-day lives at home.

We traveled all the way to Music City to kick off This is Home: Nashville. Nashville, TN is home to top tier universities, sports teams, its famous hot chicken, and of course country music. Today, we’re kicking off our first room tour with Michael Ray, the Academy of Country Music Award’s (ACM) nominee for New Male Artist of the Year:

Michael Ray Room Tour

Michael Ray, a Florida native, developed a love for country music from his late grandfather, Amos—which is the name of his most recent album in tribute. Amos’s lead single, “Get to You,” has charted in the top 20 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and “One That Got Away” is currently top five. “I feel like without him, I wouldn’t have this house,” Michael Ray said.

We asked Michael what’s important to have in his home:

“What’s really important to me is to have a couch that I can just lose myself into.”

When you don’t spend much time at home, you’ve got to make the most of it. After being on the road, he let us know that it’s nice to come home to a comfy couch and relax, watch movies, and play videos games.

This is: The Living Room

Michael described himself as an earth tone guy, so that’s the route he chose when decorating his living room. His time at home is limited, so we wanted to make the space extra special and comfortable for days to unwind by himself, with family or with friends. This meant adding plenty of textures and sleek wood pieces for a clean, yet rustic finish.

A special corner of his living room is dedicated to some of his accomplishments: hanging are two plaques for #1 songs, as well as medals for other songs he’s written.

This is: The Bedroom

Michael’s bedroom is another area he doesn’t see much due to his busy schedule. “I don’t get to see this a lot, so it meant a lot to me that I had this big headboard and big comfortable mattress that I can just fall into and get ready for the next day.”

We took Michael’s bedroom and incorporated neutrals, as well as grainy woods and natural elements for a cozy farmhouse aesthetic that’s extra welcoming after long tour schedule.
