━ Shine Again

I was so, so pleased to be able to commission the wonderful @furious-blueberry0 to bring to life a really important moment in my Star Wars OC Mimi's life. Thank you so much for your work, Blue. You are an amazing artist. I highly recommend her, you can find her commission information here. ♡

The scene from my story where this takes place is below the cut:

“It was early morning, even the sun had yet to rise. I was kneeling in the dirt, body aching and soul broken. Sleep had escaped me yet again, and I was deathly frightened: fourteen, in the depths of a strange jungle on an even stranger planet, surrounded by other tormented kids, all of us totally isolated. Imprisoned in despair, suffering deeply at the hands of our abusers. It felt like there was no hope for me, no future, no freedom.

Then there was light. Flaring and sudden and literal, in the form of elongated wings in shades of sunset-pink, gracefully swooping down in a gentle arc, descending in elegance on to my extended hand as I reached for it. A creature of immense beauty and breath-taking delicacy. Bright and gorgeous and unapologetic in its boldness. Glowing, from silver and white bulbs at its antennae and tail.

My eyes pricked with tears, awe-struck. Because here she was...the Mimi they were trying so hard to stop me from being. Sparkling and extravagant, radiating vibrancy in spite of the gloom, illuminating a future seemingly shrouded in darkness, banishing the shadows with her resilience. Looking back, I truly believe it was the Force reminding me of who I was and who I would always be, of my place in this cruel and unrelenting galaxy.

It was then that I knew, deep down, I would survive it. I could be just as unyielding and glorious as this magical butterfly. They weren't going to contain me. I was going to spread my wings and soar away, to another world that was big enough for me.

I made a promise to myself, that one day, Mimi would shine again."

Everyone he shared this office with had some sort of volatile peculiarity about them; a twitch, a hair-trigger stashed away underneath their professional exteriors. Cody had seen through the last of them by the end of his first year on the job.

He wondered if his colleagues had made similar observations about him. It wouldn't come as a surprise. The chrono on the wall read two hours past his usual checkout—he was ravenous, stewing, and not entirely sure if he could get up from his chair. Tall orders had been coming in by the shipload as the entire logistics department worked overtime, processing materiel forms in numbers that seemed strange even in the throes of war. Like High Command was churning them out solely to torture him.

That, or someone was trying to build a planet from scratch.
