THE STORY OF MILEX

On the back of the CD cover of the third single of Arctic Monkeys, which includes covers as b-sides Put Your Dukes Up John & Baby, I’m Yours there is a small essay written by Alex. After such "notes in the side" he will do in the era of the second album, FWN.

(Very loudly, Alexander!):

"And they were left with their good friend Speculation,it was felt to be the best way. It was hard to be sure but was certainly suspected there were many unanswered questions,perhaps more amongst some than others. “We’ll meet again,on a more weathered landscape” was thought but never really said".

Pure and genius (!) a metaphor mixed with an idiom which translates from AlexTurnerish to human means: In that situation/at that time, they could only guess when they could work together again, but both wanted it, although they didn’t really said. And this desire, not spoken aloud, sounds like an intention.

And on the disc itself, the phrase:

“With cries of ‘the boy’s gone soft!’ they will part, not a moment too soon”.

And that was Alex's promise, ladies and gents. Which was executed about a year later! Is someone talking about romance? Yes, definitely.

My favourite AM album is Humbug. Songs from it turned me into a fan of the band, so it hold a special place in my heart. I also consider it as the album with their best B-sides.

SIAS takes the second place because it's the soothing album for me. Alex once said that SIAS had a kind of warmth to it that they'd never had before and I can't agree more.

TBHC gets the third place since I appreciate their venture into a completely new territory. I put it behind SIAS only because it's a bit too much Alex-centred and didn't create enough space for the other ones to contribute.

FWN takes the fourth place and I think it's an album that is hard to dislike since it contains so many hits.

AM and WPSIATWIN get the fifth and sixth place. Obviously I enjoy them as well, just not as much as I like the other four.

As for the ranking of TLSP albums, you can tell from the name of this blog that I prefer TAOTU lol I think its "classical" sound is quite lovely and I love the fact that it's influenced by Ennio Morricone. But I have to say I love EYCTE a lot as well, and I always hope someday Alex will write more straightforwardly about himself like he did in The Bourne Identity.

why would he debut a song that is not in FWN, even as a b-side? And even if he did, why would he put it on the next album? It's not like it became such a hit that he felt the pressure to include it in Humbug // He wrote it after FWN came out and he played it basically once, it's not a big deal. It was probably not suitable for the Puppets record (can see why), so he kept it for the next Monkeys album. Why should have he got rid of it even if it wasn't a hit? A song is a song, and Humbug wasn't a particularly hit-packed album anyway. As for the NY reference, don't know, he actually kinda confirmed that, so maybe the song changed the meaning overtime. Best to ask Alex, idk 🙃

This seems like a She's Thunderstorms situation. Everyone's confused. lmao The thing is we'll never really know. People seem to forget that the internet (Youtube & Co.) wasn't as full blown in 2007 as it is now. So unless you've seen them live or lived in the UK you really only had the albums and a few selected interviews depending in which countries they got published. And in my case it's not like I was obsessively following just this band. I'm a music lover in general so I checked out with the Monkeys especially during Humbug and listened to other stuff. lol Submarine was the thing that roped me back in. I do not have that obsessive nature people seem to display these days about bands and musicians. I don't need to read and watch every single interview. Particularly during a promo cycle when they basically say the same thing again and again just with a different twist. lmao
