Yknow what? Ask games are freaking awesome here you go
💥🎭📦🌪️
yo thanks for all the asks man!! also for convenience im putting all my answers under a readmore bc im tired of scrolling past long ass posts on my own blog lol
answers below cut!!!
💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?
SORRY i keep talking about vinny in these asks hes like the character with the most development or whatever. anyways he doesn’t really feel all that comfortable with feeling/showing empathy + receiving it too (throughout most of his early life nobody wasn’t all too nice to him and he was taught that being nice was a sign of weakness). when being shown kindness he Doesn’t Really Know how to respond yknow
🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?
lance has a different attitudes when it comes to his Weird “job” (vigilante crap) and his actual job (a librarian) so for sure he acts somewhat differently around certain others. when he’s doin his demon killin thing he comes off as VERY intense and unintentionally cold (he just wants to be left alone!!). when he’s doin his normal job he’s a lot more soft spoken and shows more kindness to others (not like he wasn’t nice before yknow)
he doesn’t have much friends though (sad!) so i dont think he acts differently around others depending on relationship. he does have a big connection with boss though and is very understanding towards him
📦 PACKAGE - what are some "most likely to..." that can apply to them?
here’s the answers to some “who is most likely to” questions i found online!
who is most likely to eat weird food combinations? - vinny. that man has a simple zest for life yknow
who is most likely to tell the most lame jokes? - either uriel or lance. uriel bc he’s an old ass ceo of a huge company (those guys are never funny) and lance bc he just Doesn’t have a sense of humor
who is most likely to get hungry in the middle of the night? - mae. You Know How It Is
🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you've ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version?
(ok back to vinny) ive had vinny for a while so he’s definitely changed a lot!!! super duper early vinny (before crit dmg was created) he was just this Edgy Guy that was obsessed with knives and killing people and ohhh my god i genuinely hate pre-crit dmg vinny soooo much. his design was also pretty different too (shorter hair, wore a trenchcoat along w his scarf, bigass scar on his face, TERRIBLE color palette) (the scarf was pretty much the only thing consistent throughout his design)
other big (design) changes to characters include:
uriel originally had armor
boss used to be much much taller than the rest of the cast
harmony used to be a boy (trans? who knows……………………………)
mae used to have untextured straight hair that was light blue (worst mae design btw)
#perry ocs#perry answers#critical damage!!#ask game#ask#oc talk#vinny (oc)#lance (oc)#gaaah these posts are becoming so LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Check part 1 of this topic (GoFushi typical dynamic - about Ludus).]
This post is a continuation of it (it's mainly Gojou annoying Fushiguro LOL).
※ best seen on mobile (formatting a bit off at the start on blog home)
Making a flirty joke about it? (homewreckers + violin teacher)
Teasing him during his first mission
Q: Who was with Fushiguro on his first mission and what was his first mission? A: It was more like Gojo is watching over him. It seems like he was teasing Fushiguro.
[Q&A source]
(Gojou was probably overseeing it as Fushiguro's teacher since Akutami-sensei said that he wasn't assigned missions prior to becoming a student at the college. So I assume Megumi’s first mission might have been solo? because Megumi was the only first year student back then. Are we ever going to have Megumi’s first mission shown??).
Going to a fun place together
Because of that, when Kugisaki said, “I want to go see Ame-yoko,” Fushiguro had prepared himself for the outing that will surely take a long time. It would probably take around same time as when Gojou suddenly shows up on a Sunday morning and suddenly said, “Megumi, let’s go to Parque Espana,”.
(light novel source)
Megumi, let's go to Parque España.
Gaaah. Going to a theme park together. Do they usually do this? And for a long time 👀
Did they go to exorcise a curse? Or to have fun? Knowing Gojou's busy schedule I'd guess exorcising, but just for leisure would be nice too...
> They go to Parque España to exorcise a curse, but the job is done within seconds because Satoru wants to spend the rest of their time trying out all of the different rides and foods. And that's how it took a long time.
> Alternatively, Satoru dumps all of the exorcising work to Megumi so he can go have fun alone- wait, that's cruel, although it's canon that he does that to his students >_< what if this was Megumi's first mission, with all that teasing.
> It's Sunday, a decent day for outings, imagine the amount of people there if they were to exorci..se......
-unless the park is closed off for exorcising, so they have the place all to themselves.
???!!
Sometimes, a prank or a tease goes too far. Megumi seems annoyed at them (probably is lol) but imo, it's as if he were resigned to them or is used to Satoru's antics already, so he lets them slide.
Likewise, Gojou has known him for nine years to know when Fushiguro is truly angry.
Perhaps Megumi finds some jokes funny, but would not admit it out loud. He ofc would get annoyed at pranks if they are directed at him such as ep23 jujusanpo (amazingly enough, he is being polite) or Gojou's shirt inside of him.
He also acts childish or says witty jokes.
So it's not as if he doesn't have a sense of humour.
Satoru expresses most of the ludus here (´꒳`) it's almost as if he were the personification of it with all the teasing he does to Megumi, not to mention going to a theme park together, acting like a child in general, taking photos of him-
He loves to annoy Megumi, and Megumi has the same reactions.
and maybe there are funny things that Satoru does which make Megumi smile or laugh softly to the point that he sometimes jokes back? But his tsundere/proud side won't let him admit it lolol.
Ludus is everyday gofushi dynamic.

This is gonna be long but not too long 🤡
Hi I know that I'm way too late with showering you with compliments that you DESERVE but I wasn't just feeling it throughout the past one week. I have been hella lot tired with the assignments and the late submissions. Well not my problem that procrastination runs in my whole family :) AND I AM TRYING TO RECOVER MY LONG LOST HOURS OF SLEEP SO THAT ALSO COUNTS TO IT.
Now, cocky sub kook with taehyung is a thing that I honestly never expected to happen. I always saw him as a cocky brat with the oc but never with sweet baby taetae and then my so called "imaginative sweet soft cuddly boi" tae becoming a hard-core dom is so sudden for my rusty ass heart🥲
Well I'm pretty sure that the oc was also really surprised with the role reverse here and after reading this piece of art,I realized that my so called "imaginative sweet soft cuddly boi" tae can be now seen as a dom in front of my eyes .Your writings really make me change my opinions on these boys. And not to forget that kook really seems like a guy who believes in the star sign thing(idek if that's what you call, I'm sorry if I'm wrong 😔) And then you ending the plot perfectly by bringing back my "sweet soft cuddly boi" made my heart melt into a puddle.
And my take on the whole poly relationship discussion that had happened here is that as long as I can you are up to it then even I'm up-to it. Struggling here to decide on whether to want a poly relationship or not, so gonna leave it up to you:)
Well in short, I did read your recent two updates, I just wasn't in the mood to be active on tumblr and I completely loved it. You always make my heart go 💥 boom boom 💥 with your works and I seriously wanna know how you manage your your work/studies and tumblr together. I don't even post anything and still find it hard to balance. Take break when needed .
Sorry again for such a late feedback (its just me complimenting you).
Love you
Hey don't worry, sometimes you just don't feel like socialising at all and that is completely fine! Trust me, I'm the biggest introvert so I know how exhausting (virtual) socialising can get. I hope you had a good and relaxing time and that you could sleep a lot 💜
But concerning the rest of your message gAAAH THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE SO SWEET AND I'M SO HAPPY THAT YOU LIKED THE TWO DRABBLES!! Honestly I was also surprised at how much of a hard dom Tae can actually be jfsjjsd like The Cocktail Trilogy!Tae is such a tender sweetheart and to see him be that sadistically dominant did things to my lower regions 🥴💜
PS: that cat meme, which you added, always reminds me of Yoongles :((

Simblr Community Challenge
I was tagged by @penig :-)
How long have you been playing the Sims?
I’m not entirely sure, probably since 2013 or so? I still feel like a new player.
I still learn new things everyday. Most recent (and worrying): empty lots have to be cleaned of sim references before being moved to the house bin, because they can cause corruption.
I’m seeing age-inappropriate wants in Pleasantview already, which might be linked to the age mod I’m using (also something new to me, and much needed!), a mod conflict, OR house-related corruption. Gaaah.
How long have you been a Simblr and why did you become one?
Since March 2015. I can’t believe it’s been that long! I started with a blogspot that’s still somewhere around, but everyone I was following was on Tumblr and/or Dreamwidth/Livejournal.
After losing my first hood to beginner’s mistakes, I wanted a place where I could document my sims’ lives. Also reading other people’s blogs made me want to try playing Premades (Maxis and custom hoods, eg. Widespot), which I’d never done before, and leave free will on. I’ve never looked back!
Aaaaand I wanted to make some stuff so I needed a place for that as well.
I’ve had a long break after my PC started falling apart, and I lost the backup of my dear Veronaville hood. I only got a new PC at the end of last year. I immediately reinstalled the Sims.
What type of Simlr are you?
As I can’t create stuff at the moment (it’s complicated), I mostly post gameplay pics. I play a lot faster than I can post, so I’m hopelessly behind!
I’m currently playing Pleasantview, redoing hobby lots etc. I don’t plan my storytelling because when I think I know what my sims want, I’m usually wrong. Yeah. Things don’t go to plan. As in ever.
(looking at you, Todd Bradshaw...) (and Brandi) (oh let’s not forget Daniel Pleasant and Cassandra and and and...)
(I’m a Simlr who uses (parentheses). (Lots of them). (Yes, that’s the type of Simlr I am.))
Which generation of Sims do you primarily play?
Sims 2. I tried Sims 4 but the sims just seemed shallow in comparison.
Tagging... uh at this point a lot of people have done it, but if you’re reading this and haven’t been tagged yet, I’d love to read your thoughts! (Especially if you use parentheses.)

(This is kinda long! I’m so sorry but ANDNEKDJADJ!!)
Author-nim,
I have risen from the dead, awake and ready tO CRY AGAIN OVER BB 2. I WAS JUST LISTENING TO INTERLUDE:SET ME FREE FROM D-2 AND I SWEAR THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT OF WAS YOONGI FROM BB!! 🥺💚 I love every aspect of your writing and literally crave your intellect and creativity! I love the spice and the flavor *chefs kiss*! And the smooty smut is always beautiful! This time I found myself zooming through it cuz I was eating up one fine detail after the next! The blood letting??? I was like, :0 it’s been years since I’ve learned about this historic practice! And the fact that that was considered a form of treatment is so mind boggling! But I know it’s because their resources and technology were limited, and it was considered acceptable and ethical back then! The vampires not being able to go into the lake cuz they would literally boil alive??? How author-nim??? HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH SUCH BEAUTIFUL THINGS!!! I swear I fall in love with your writing every time you post something new ;;-;; This new update on tumblr that allows you to type an unlimited amount of characters is gonna be so bad for me cuz I’m just sending paragraphs on top of paragraphs now! Power post Namjin making an appearance was 🥰 tho I hope Jin wasn’t too upset at Joonie for offering his blood to Yoongi 🥺👉👈
-🧡, 🦖 anon
ASHDHFJJFKG Don’t ever feel the need to apologize for a long ask! 😊 I adore them! I’m listening to ‘Set Me Free’ again now as I I listen to this and it’s giving me chills and such wholesome BB vibes too 🥰.
OMG yes! The bloodletting was one of my favourite parts to dive into. Seriously so much research, it’s such a fascinating practice, though it is indeed a very flawed at the best of times, you can sometimes see where their logic came from, as it might relieve some aliments but definitely not all. It’s just so interesting to me because it was such a cultural universal for so long in so many parts of the world that my brain was like, “Huh, that’s so vampiric of those doctors... I can totally use that in a fic.” 😅
So the weakness of running water, is actually part of very OLD vampire lore, that I came across when doing research (sadly it doesn’t get included in modern stories anymore). Since vampires were often connected with pestilence and death, there was a belief that because sources of running water, like rivers, seas, and oceans, are so clean that it would ward them off, much like holy water. Leading me to believe, once the water has left that source (effectively becoming unclean), it would be safe for them to touch. (Now I MIGHT have a vampire prequel in the works that gives another reasoning to this weakness, but don’t hold me to it 😅)
NamJin gaaah I’m glad you love them too!! Don’t worry Jin gets a little overprotective of Namjoon, he understands that Namjoon just wanted to help, but he’s not a fan of sharing his man.
I know I’m so excited by this update!! I’m patiently waiting for it to update on my phone 😍.
(Don’t worry I saw your second part I’m just going to answer it/post it separately)

THG Reread: Interesting Tidbits from Ch 1
Disclaimer: I’ve never taken part in any official THG reread/discussion and I essentially read the book in isolation, so anything I say in these posts may well have been discussed and dismissed years ago.
When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim’s warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress. She must have had bad dreams and crawled in with our mother.
I find it interesting that Prim leaves Katniss to find comfort with their mother, especially since Katniss seems to see herself as Prim’s sole protector and provider. Are Prim and Mrs. Everdeen closer than Katniss realizes (having such an abrasive relationship with her mother as she does) or is it simply that Mom will always be Mom and in a moment of terror most children prefer the embrace of their mother over a sibling?
Also: sleeping directly on a rough canvas-covered mattress? Are bed sheets are that great a luxury in the Seam? :(
I swing my legs off the bed and slide into my hunting boots. Supple leather that has molded to my feet. I pull on trousers…
So she gets out of bed and puts on her boots, then her trousers... So...girl’s a firefighter, right? :D
(Sorry for the crummy pics. Apparently the Tumblr presence of the Emergency! fandom is microscopic at best - I guess that happens with a ‘70s show :P - so these are screenshots I made from the S1 DVD, because yes, I’m that big of an Emergency! fangirl and you can never have too much Johnny Gage!)
It gives “girl on fire” a whole new meaning!! ;D
All merriment aside, we know that fire was a constant danger in the Seam, with its “old wooden homes embedded with coal dust,” so it’s entirely possible that residents slept with trousers and boots in readiness at the bedside, to be stepped into at a moment’s notice for a rapid escape if needed.
I…tuck my long dark braid up into a cap…
This has been discussed in previous rereads so it really isn’t news, but I’d love to see more Katniss-in-a-cap popping up in fics and fanart. THG opens in summertime and she’s still wearing the cap, so it was definitely a staple of her wardrobe! (And it brings us a little closer to the girl-disguised-as-a-boy trope, which is one of my all-time faves! :D)
(Behold this adorable @ghtlovesthg rendering!)
Our part of District 12, nicknamed the Seam, is usually crawling with coal miners heading out to the morning shift at this hour…
Somehow I had always (erroneously) assumed that there was just one twelve-hour shift that all the miners worked (ex. 6am-6pm). Since artificial light would be required inside the mines anyway, I suppose they could work around the clock with no regard to the sun and stars. Folks who live in/near coal mining communities: do they generally operate 24 hours a day or is there some arbitrary cut-off point in the evening? (I’m sorry I’m so ignorant about this!)
Most of the Peacekeepers turn a blind eye to the few of us who hunt…
Has anyone else figured out who these mysterious additional hunters are??
I watch as Gale pulls out his knife and slices the bread. He could be my brother. Straight black hair, olive skin, we even have the same gray eyes. But we’re not related, at least not closely.
First off: it truly befuddles me that Katniss’s hair color is stated on page 8 of THG (though, interestingly, never explicitly afterward) and yet it’s unusual - maybe even rare - to find fanart or even fics that depict her with black hair. Why is that? I was in love with her long black hair from moment one (truly black hair is unique, at least in my part of the world, and so striking to boot) so I probably belabor it a bit in my own writing, but it’s such an exquisite feature, why would you not?
Secondly: “He could be my brother.” That feels significant, and not merely in the “we look alike” sense. I’ve been working on a post about how Gale came into Katniss’s life in a very significant fashion after her beloved father’s death and she was drawn to him because of certain (I would venture to say striking) commonalities, but as I was wrapping it up last night (and sharing various details with my favorite sounding-board @ghtlovesthg), I realized there was a whole - vitally important - flipside to my theory that absolutely cannot be overlooked. So I might not get that finished till we’re on CF or even MJ. (No spoilers just in case someone pips me at the post - pun inadvertent ;) - but I think it’s pretty cool!)
And thirdly, because I can’t resist: I headcanon that Gale and Katniss are cousins through their great-great-grandfather (Galen Greenbrier, if anyone cares :D), who had two daughters (Aisling and Elspeth), who each had a daughter (Wren and Ashpet), who had Hazelle and Jack (Mr. Everdeen), who begat Gale and Katniss, respectively. Ergo: related but “not closely,” per canon. :)
With both of us hunting daily…
I’d always thought Gale and Katniss only hunted a few times a week, with Sundays being their largest haul/best trading day. (“Usually we devote all of Sunday to stocking up for the week.”) I know Twelve is an unusually permissive district at this point in time, but if two Seam kids were sneaking back and forth under the fence every single day and (forgive me) flaunting the fact by selling game in town (and when did they do this? before school, after, both?), surely, inevitably, the Peacekeepers would have been obliged to do something about it. Or were there some trips where Gale and Katniss only brought back enough for their own families, making their illegal activities not quite so blatant?
Cross-referencing with Catching Fire, I find Katniss saying, “Back when we were in school, we had time in the afternoons to check the lines and hunt and gather and still get back to town to trade” - exactly what time did they get out of school and how late were they doing these trades (not to mention, when did anyone get homework done)?? - but she also says it’s “an hour-and-a-half trek” just to check the snare line. I guess it isn’t impossible, but it seems a much more extensive (and time-consuming!) arrangement than I would have thought they could get by with, even in Twelve.
We easily trade six of the fish for good bread…
Like the rest of you, I’m trying to figure out who’s selling this “good bread” at the Hob. For some odd reason, at one point I thought maybe the bakery’s day-olds were sold there, à la:
They could potentially sell said day-olds at less of a discount than merchant clientele would demand but the reduced prices would be low enough for some Seam clientele to afford, and of course, even day-old bakery bread would be superior to homemade tessera bread (and therefore: “good bread”).
I’m not sure where I got the “bakery outlet” idea (I think it was all the early canonverse fics where Katniss ran into Peeta in the Hob, so I figured he was running a day-olds stall or something) but having been away from it for awhile, I actually kind of like it! :)
You become eligible for the reaping the day you turn twelve.
I’m going to wax exceedingly about reaping ages in another post, but for the moment: I presume this rule means that anyone who turns twelve between reaping days becomes eligible for the subsequent reaping, correct? So if we arbitrarily set the reaping at, say, June 1, someone whose birthday is on June 2 wouldn’t be eligible till the following year. (Which would be especially terrible for your 18-yr-old reaping: being a day away from 19 and freedom, of a sort, but still having to go through one last reaping.) Now I think of it, it’s possible Career districts took advantage of this. Highly invested parents in a Career district could have planned their pregnancies with the intent of a late summer birth (i.e., a month or two after reaping day) so the resulting children would have the advantage of extra months up on other tributes in their same age group.
On the flipside of this: Prim, whose birthday is in late May, would be an especially young tribute, since she’s only just turned twelve (think school kids with summer birthdays who don’t turn the “right age” for their grade till 1-3 months after school is out), and similarly Katniss, whose birthday is May 8, would be on the young side of the group of sixteens.
“Pretty dress,” says Gale.
Madge shoots him a look, trying to see if it’s a genuine compliment or if he’s just being ironic. It is a pretty dress, but she would never be wearing it ordinarily. She presses her lips together and then smiles. “Well, if I end up going to the Capitol, I want to look nice, don’t I?”
Now it’s Gale’s turn to be confused. Does she mean it? Or is she messing with him? I’m guessing the second.
Gaaah, so much going on here! I can’t decide if I want to make a proper Gadge post, so in the meantime, here’s some food for thought:
1) Why does Gale remark on her dress? Really - give me suggestions, because I’ve been turning it over in my head. If it’s meant to be ironic and she gives him sarcasm in reply (as seems to be the quintessential Gadge dynamic :D), it’s odd that he would be confused and not have a volley/riposte/etc of his own on deck. I mean, Katniss doesn’t seem to know (or at least, doesn’t clarify in her narration) whether or not it’s a compliment -
2) Which is interesting, because she guesses straightaway that Madge is “messing with him” in reply. ;)
3) Gale gives Madge what outwardly seems like a compliment and this is what ensues. One might surmise they’ve done this before... :D I mean, if there was no precedent, Madge would’ve just said “thank you” and exchanged money for berries. Since the mayor is such a valuable customer (being one of very few who can afford their asking price for strawberries), it’s interesting that Gale would antagonize Madge and risk losing the strawberry trade - not to mention bringing up the subject of tesserae at the mayor’s back door on reaping day! Does he take similar potshots at other merchants or is it just Madge? Is he irked (even threatened) by Katniss’s friendship with Madge? (I love that Katniss immediately defends Madge in the face of Gale’s tesserae rant. ♡) Does he feel like he can sound off at her (with impunity) because she’s Katniss’s friend? Or is he secretly crazy about her and resigned to the fact that he’ll never get her but the reminders of the impassable gap between them still incense him? Sorry, my hand slipped there for a sec. ;)
Gale knows his anger at Madge is misdirected.
I didn’t recall this line from previous reading and it just makes me happy. :)
To my surprise, my mother has laid out one of her own lovely dresses for me. A soft blue thing with matching shoes. [...] For a while I was so angry, I wouldn’t allow her to do anything for me. And this is something special. Her clothes from her past are very precious to her.
I’d never caught the “matching shoes” bit before! Do you suppose Katniss means dyed [blue] to match/covered with matching fabric (so that’s what they do at the shoe shop!) or simply that they go well with the dress? And if she means that the shoes literally match the dress: is this a particularly special dress (hence particularly special shoes) or is it customary for merchant girls to order shoes to match their dresses?
And further: why this year? It doesn’t sound like Mrs. Everdeen has offered one of her apothecary-era dresses before, which could have been due to Katniss’s repeated rebuffs, but still: why offer one of those very precious dresses this year? Did she have a feeling about this reaping? Or is she starting to see Katniss as a young woman, not just an angry, resourceful child? (Coupled with the fact that she subsequently puts Katniss’s hair up, the latter makes a lot of sense.)
On a sidenote: Has anyone written meta on the significance/usage of braids in Twelve? (Notwithstanding WTM: Ch 13 and all that Mellark bridal braids/braid coils/engagement hairpin business.) Ex. Does a girl "graduate” from pigtails to a single braid around puberty and then to a crown braid as a young woman/wife, or does she/her mother simply style it however she feels on any given day? I’m just now realizing that I consistently picture reaping day!Prim in pigtails because of the film, but it doesn’t state in the text how her hair is styled, so it might be in a single braid or held back at the temples with a clip or even worn loose.
The square’s surrounded by shops, and on public market days, especially if there’s good weather, it has a holiday feel to it.
I’m really curious about “public market days,” since the Hob seems to be Twelve’s primary market - or at least, has become so in fanon - but Katniss makes a clear distinction between them (“Make only polite small talk in the public market. Discuss little more than trades at the Hob, which is the black market where I make most of my money”). Is this public market like a farmer’s market or a craft fair - or a bit of both? Is it simply the “merchant version” of the Hob? How often are they held? Who gets to sell at this market, and what sort of wares are we talking about? (Is it just merchants bringing their product outside, like a sidewalk sale?) Does the Capitol/Justice Building collect a fee from everyone wanting a stall/booth/table?
Edit: While looking up details for a different post, I found this passage:
Gale and I went to the market on the square so that I could buy dress materials [for Prim].
So apparently they sold fabric and notions in the public market? (Not at, say, a mercantile/general store?) I’m wholly confused now!

Reboot season 2 rated part 2
High Stress Express: 7/10
Ben has to face of against Lagrange as said sabotages a new bulet train to prevent it from cracking his speed record with little to no regards to the savety of others.
This episode was okay. I just didn't care much for it. Lagrange is a rather boring villan and the lesson Ben learned felt like something he already knew at this point. It's not bad just kind of forgetable compared to the other episodes.
Creature feature: 9/10
Ben and Gwen have to investigate after Hex brings a monster from the movie they were watching to live.
This episode has a surprising amount of world building and brings us more insight into Hex's origin in this new continuity. There are also a few paralels I noticed to another character who's origin has been changed in the reboot. But that's for a diffrent post. The movie references were fun and the fight scenes are well done. However Ben repeating the same mistake over and over was a bit frustrating and the exposition was a bit too long and the climax was a bit meh. Overall a solid episode though with interesting worldbuilding.
Drone on: 10/10
The Tennysons investigate as Max spots suspicious drones approach a nuclear plant. However due to Ben's immature antics the Omnitrix isn't ready, leaving Gwen to take center stage with her brand new glider. Things get heated as the cousins need to work together as they face off against Vilgax!
This. Episode. Is. AWESOME! Gwen is a absolute badass. Ben trying to prove himself against her is done in a more endearing manner. Ben and Gwen act as a team like they should! Max is a encoraging but concerned parental figure. Just! GAAAH! It's so much fun.
Safari Sa-Bad: 9/10
As the family takes a detour to a Jungle Cruise on their way to Adrenaworld west Ben finds himself in a sticky situation as Tim Buktu uses Vudo magic to take over his body.
I already made a trigger warning post about this episode. It's really disturbing and Tim Buktu is now one of the more uncomfortable vilans of the show. However the overall plot is really great with Gwen and Max trying to snap Ben out of the Vudo spell and Ben getting more self doubt over his abilities to use the omnitrix. Ben's confidence being knoked down and him becoming more aware of the harm his powers can cause is a major theme this season and the idea of Ben himself being weaponized is truely terrifying.
The Nature of things: 9.5/10
Ben and co are visiting Geyser Gulch National Park however their nature observations are disturbed as Steam Smythe tries to exploit nature for his evil scheme. Nature however doesn't take too kindly to this as his antics could cause a Super Vulcano to errupt. It's up to the Tennysons and a unexpected ally to prevent this from happening.
This episode is again really neat and...oh who am I kidding? We all know the rating is so high because of Aristocrow.
More in part 3.

Sendai Monument Ceremony: Part 1
- Courtesy of Mainichi
This was a really nice interview, but 45mins is a long time and I don’t want the post to become overly long, so I’ve decided to break it into parts instead. Here is roughly the first 20mins of the talk show.
Shizuka: No well, at that time Japan's Figure Skating was rather blocked off by the rest of the world, a time when we did not get through to the rest of the world. Ever since Ito Midori we didn't really.., we only had 1 spot and there were no opportunities. So it was called a Western Sport, a sport which was hard to beat the western athletes in. For myself, even when I left Japan to compete internationally, I never really even thought about winning. So therefore I didn't really...even after winning the All Japan Junior's and then following that the All Japan Nationals, I felt that at an international level, if I were to compete internationally, those wins wouldn't get (me) through. That's all I could think about.
Yama: In other words, to Hanyu, for example if the choreographer were to say something like "maybe we should just change this part" (you'd reply with) "No way, don't be ridiculous" - is that how it is?
Yuzu: Well, if I was told "Isn't it better to change?", I would give a performance that would completely overthrow that. As if to say "did you see that?!", and "This is what I wanted to do!"
(Part of the) Full translation under the cut.
Here both are referred to as Arakawa-san and Hanyu-san, which would be Ms Arakawa and Mr Hanyu, but to me that sounds awkward and also tiring to type, so I've just stuck with their names instead.
The host is Yamamoto Hiroshi, a former NHK announcer and now a professor in sports and health science.
You can follow along with this video. Although I have included descriptions of their actions where appropriate, their interaction with each was very nice and it was a warm, comfortable interview.
youtube
Yama: Please, come to the center. Yama: Do you come back to Sendai when you are free? Shizuka: Yes I quite like Sendai so even if I don't have a reason to come back I often look for one.
Yama: Oh my..
Shizuka: Therefore I do come quite often. This time too, if I had come yesterday that would have been enough to make it for this event but I came the day before instead.
Yama: How is it? Do you have incidents were people look at your face and go "Ah it's Arakawa!"?
Shizuka: No I don't really get noticed. Yama: Eh? Shizuka: It's probably because I'm of average stature, so when I walk around... (people don't realise)
Yama: Then please, give us some of your time. Have a seat there. Shizuka: Please look after me
[0:56]
Yama: Please come in, Hanyu. Yama: You're incredibly popular! Yuzu: Thank you very much. (and then after Yama smiles and laughs, Yuzu turns to the crowd and bows again) Thank you very much
Yama: On top of that you even came back just as the cherry blossoms are at their peak!
Yuzu: Yes that's right. Last spring, because of the pain in my foot I had stayed in Canada recovering so, being able to see the cherry blossoms in Sendai makes me happy.
Yama: How is it, this air? This food? This atmosphere? (crowd claps) Yuzu: (laughs) Sendai is the best isn't it? There's good food and all too. It's really a relief (t/n: connotation of relaxed).
Yama: Yes, then please, have a seat. Yuzu: Please look after me.
[1:47]
Yama: Arakawa, this place, Sendai, used to be called the Figure Skating's place of origin (in Japan) correct?
Shizuka: For me, it was a short while after I started that I came to know of that. There is a statue at Goshikinuma (a lake in Sendai). When that statue was made, I found out that this was the place of origin for figure skating.
(The statue is of a pair skating team doing a death spiral, and is called the origin of figure skating. An accompanying plaque tells of when FS came to Japan and the activities and teachings from an american and german skater that was then passed on to Japanese skaters)
Yama: Hanyu, when you were young, did you know of Arakawa? Yuzu: For me, I was really young and Arakawa... how do you say this she was above?...in the class? above me. I was really just, how do you say this, a regular...a regular student? I say student but well it really was a school, not a club but something like a school that I was skating at so... there were almost no chances to meet. All I knew was that we were skating at the same rink.
Yama: Ahh I see
Yama: For Arakawa, you started skating at Katsuyama Skate Centre? Shizuka: Yes I started skating at Katsuyama, and moved to what is now Ice Rink Sendai when it first opened up.
Yama: It's at Izumi (a ward in Sendai) isn't it? Shizuka: Yes that's right. There was a Daiei (large supermarket chain) over there so even now if you tell the taxi drivers "Izumi's Daiei" they'll know where to go. It seems like people are more used to "Izumi's Daiei" than they are to "Ice Rink Sendai".
Yama: Judging from their response right? (t/n: not sure if he means the taxi drivers or the crowd, since Shizuka looks at the crowd and smiles)
Shizuka: It was since then. Probably if there is a person from Sendai, telling them "Izumi's Daiei" would give them a much clearer idea (of the location), for a long time (to come)
Yuzu: Much clearer, much clearer (nods) Yama: Yes that's right
Yama: In the first place "Sendai is really strong at figure skating!" - just exactly what is there?
Yuzu: (in response to Shizuka looking at him) What is there? (laughs) Shizuka: Yes well, in the Nagano Olympics, for all 4 disciplines, everyone was born in Sendai. I say born (t/n: this word means "come from" and usually refers to birthplace, hence she re-explains what she meant) but well, it's more like we all had a connection (to Sendai), (we were all) people who were practicing in Sendai. It just happened... yes I think it just happened to be that way.
Yama: But even so it is amazing isn't it? I mean from the 2006 olympics where Arakawa won gold to the recent great reversal in the World Championships...
(crowd applauds and Yuzu bows and says thank you - or mouths it, his voice doesn't reach the mic)
Yama: That's why the people from Sendai, the people from Miyagi prefecture (t/n: Sendai is the capital city of Miyagi) are like "Figure skating? Leave it to us" right? (yuzu laughs) That's the kind of feeling I get.
[3:59]
Yama: So then, about the Olympics, it's been a while but let's go back to it. Arakawa, was it in '93? When you were in middle school, the All Japan Junior Competition
Shizuka: Yes Yama: you won it? Shizuka: Yes Yama: Was it around there that you went "gaaah" to the top? (he gestures an incline, and with this sound he's indicating she steadily went straight to the top)
Shizuka: No well, at that time Japan's Figure Skating was rather blocked off by the rest of the world (t/n: literally, to be hampered by the walls of the world, ie, Japan was still struggling to break into the international FS world then), a time when we did not get through to the rest of the world. Ever since Ito Midori we didn't really.., we only had 1 spot and there were no opportunities. So it was called a Western (t/n: Lit American + European) Sport, a sport which was hard to beat the western athletes in.
Yama: When you were in high school, you went for the Nagano Olympics right? Shizuka: Yes Yama: Was that time also a disappointing... competition? (t/n: this doesn't sound as harsh as it reads because he asked it very haltingly and she had also just expressed disappointment about not being able to win internationally)
Shizuka: At that time too.. at the world championships the year before, I had gone as a substitute then but we only managed 1 spot for the Olympics so because of that, I thought that if I could fight for that 1 spot at Nationals and become the Olympic representative, I would be happy. That's about all I had thought then, I don't think I had actually considered what I wanted to achieve at the Olympics beyond that. Ito Midori is, for sure, a special person, she was a skater who was able to get through to the rest of the world, but she was completely - we all thought our reality was different from her so thoughts like "how well could we place?" - we couldn't really see that. If it was an era like Hanyu's now then I think there would be the hope that if One worked hard then maybe One could become (like him) too. But for my generation it was still... even if you worked hard you could't even see what kind of world there would be (for you). So that's why there weren't things like disappointment with regards to the positions we won, in fact I was actually relieved that out of the 4 categories I had the most preferable position. (laughs) truthfully.
Yama: I see Shizuka: That was the kind of situation it was
[6:22]
Yama: For Hanyu, the Nagano Olympics happened just after you were born right? (t/n: the way he says this makes it sounds like he almost said you weren't born yet before he quickly changed it haha)
Yuzu: When I was 4 years...3. I was 3 years old. Yama: 3 years old. What about your skating boots? Yuzu: (seems like he might be answering Shizuka here) yes it was '94 Yama: You hadn't worn your skating boots yet? Yuzu: No I hadn't Yama: Not yet? Yuzu: Not yet Yama: So that means that during the Nagano Olympics, when your senior Arakawa Shizuka had appeared, it was long after that before you started skating right?
Yuzu: Ah...I started the year after that. In the end, the fact that in the Nagano Olympics, in the four categories, there were 4 skaters that had come from Sendai became a big topic. And then, the rink was right there, close by, and then my older sister attended (classes) there, and then I followed along - that's how it happend. So if you think about it you could say that it was thanks to the Nagano Olympics that (I) became aware of (figure skating), and started too.
Yama: So in other words - I'm not trying to stretch this connection but - starting from Arakawa, the connection of (training at) the same place continued along with these feelings.
Yuzu: Yes that's right, without a doubt Yama: Ahh it is (a) precious (thing) Shizuka: Instead of continuing it's more like he shot up far ahead right? Yuzu: No no (shakes head) Shizuka: Like pyooon (t/n: onomatopoeia for when something leaps or bounces)
Yuzu: Nothing like that, nothing like that
Yama: But after all, when there is a really amazing athlete, kids will look up to them right?
Yuzu: Yes that's right. In the same rink, having Japan's number 1 skater there, having the best skater in Japan skating at the same rink as you, just that alone, to skaters, it changes the way they feel inside. I think there is definitely something like that. "If I skate here then I'll be able to become Japan's number 1" or "I'll be able to go to the Olympics" and such, those were the kind of feelings I had.
Yama: I see
[7:57]
Yama: And then...during the Salt Lake Olympics you lost your chance...(t/n: shizuka was 2nd at nationals so could do make the Olympic team) you were in your 3rd year of university right? Did you have feelings like "I'm done with this"? Or did you feel like you'd make a strong comeback?
Shizuka: Well from the beginning I had planned to skate up till I was around 20 and when the Salt Lake Olympics happened I was just exactly 20 so I thought it was about the time that I should retire. After all, when you've been allowed to fight for so long, you want to end it off when you're pleased with and satisfied with yourself. That's how I felt and so my feeling towards my own retirement were along the lines of "let's do this all the way and finish it off" and then, with those feeings skating became fun and so even though I couldn't go to Salt Lake Olympics, I thought let's continue the year after and see and I continued that way year after year. (everyone nods)
Yama: Hanyu I think you may be interested in this (gesturing to Shizuka) but
Yuzu: Yes Yama: During the Torino olympics, the year before that there was a training camp there right? (referring to Shizuka)
Yuzu: '-' Shizuka: It was right before the olympics (not the year before) Yama: Ah right before. There, you changed your song right? Shizuka: Yes (t/n: she had changed the song she was using for her FS to her SP, and used Turandot, which she had previously used in 2004, for her FS instead)
Yama: (to Yuzu) What do you think of this? Yuzu: No... this doesn't happen... usually. Yama: Usually it doesn't! Yuzu: Yes usually it doesn't. First of all to change your song in the middle of the season is a very big decision. And well, this came to me again when I was listening to the conversation earlier but, because the program itself is completely different, (you'd have to) change everything that you had skated (and learned) up till then and that's a different kind of difficulty altogether. Also, I think just the fact that you're changing something would normally give rise to a sense of anxiety as well.
Yama: In other words, to Hanyu (t/n: you can see Yuzu starting to smilehere already as he gets the question coming), for example of the choreographer were to say something like "maybe we should just change this part" (you'd reply with) "No way, don't be ridiculous" (t/n: literally don't joke) - is that how it is?
Yuzu: Well, if I was told "Isn't it better to change?", I would give a performance that would completely overthrow that. As if to say "did you see that?!", and "This is what I wanted to do!" (audience applauds)
[9:49]
Yama: Then, during the actual day, after the SP, you were third with a very tiny difference from first, how did that factor into your strategy?
Shizuka: I felt relaxed. Definitely when there is a narrow margin, the one who is trying to catch up has it easier. So I felt that (it was nice that) I could go into the FS with this good placement order.
Yama: Right after drawing the order of skate, there is the official practice session right?
Shizuka: Yes Yama: I heard that alot of things happen during the practice session? Shizuka: '-'.....? Yama: I don't mean anything special by it, but do you feel like you want to show off your strong points?
Shizuka: Ah yes well...on top of what you've already prepared in your own program, the techniques, everything that you can do, you include that in your practice so if during the session your condition is good, you'd want to go with that. And then because your condition gets better, that feeling of getting better probably makes the other skaters think "ah if that's the case I can't lose too". That's why I think that when there's a narrow margin, if the skater who is behind does well during practice, it puts alot of pressure on the skaters at the top.
Yama: In other words even though it is not your own performance (t/n: that is, they practice other things beyond the program), you can still put pressure on your rivals?
Shizuka: Yes...that's right. If you think about it, it's a mental psychological battle, the Olympics. Therefore, it's not very nice when, as an opponent, you feel "ah this person seems to be in a really good condition", right? (she looks towards yuzu who nods vigorously)
Shizuka: So becoming someone who can make others feel that way, being able to control the competition such that it meshes with your own situation is a very important thing. Having said that, in reality if you put everything together (for your practice) you might feel troubled because you'd feel like you can't fail and you might end up being overtaken with those feelings instead, which happens often to skaters - for me too, I felt this way instead so maybe I was that kind of person (who became troubled)
[11:57]
Yama: At that time your rivals were Sasha Cohen and Slutskaya weren't they. Hanyu do you feel like what she has said resonates with you?
Yuzu: Yes I understand, completely. Definitely you watch the skaters around you alot more than one would think. But during the 6 minute practice, - that's the one right before the competition - during the practice right before the competition you don't watch them much. In the open practice sessions though, because after all everyone's music plays individually and, well you do something like a rehearsal (t/n: he sounds like he's repeating himself often but if you watch the video you'll understand he's actually paraphrasing for the interviewer and fans to make it easier to understand, just in case). During that time, it does attract your attention.
Yuzu: Also, what's different from before is that now it's quite common to see fans coming in to watch during the open practice sessions. So in that sense too, when the fans are watching and they applaud or scream, you'd think "oh this person's condition is good" or "this person may not be doing so well" and such. Those kind of things you can kind of tell from the atmosphere.
[12:40]
Yama: And then in the end, with that blue costume, you had a wonderful performance, and grabbed the gold medal and came back (t/n: he's referring to Shizuka, although this sentence applies to both of them)
Yama: After that, there was this incident right a big fan of yours sent you welcome back gifts when you came back.
Shizuka: Yes many people called out to me when I returned and well if anything, with my skating I would be happy if people could remember, even if just a little, what kind of performance I gave. That was one of my goals that at the end, I was able to achieve. Then when I returned, instead of my name it was "ah, ina bauer!" that came first and at the beginning I did feel conflicted about that, but slowly I came to be happy about that. My name wasn't really remembered but for some reason Ina bauer became some kind of a title. Actually to skaters that's a really boring technique and I don't think many people knew of it, but I was really happy to be known as "the person who did the Ina Bauer".
Yama: Um, I'm only saying this here but even in my workplace during the end-of-year party a large number of people came up and did the Ina Bauer.
(laughs)
Shizuka: And with that the Ina bauer become known as this great technique but I feel like I've given everyone the wrong impression. What I do is called the Ina bauer yes but actually as long as you skate with your feet like that it's called the Ina bauer and many skaters, in their program, will include it at least once so it is a major technique but also unexpectedly, a pretty boring one. Maybe because I did it that way (gestures the layback with her hand) that I was remembered for it, and when I think like that I guess that's alright too. I came to think of it a good thing.
[14:20]
Yama: And with the influence of the Torino Olympics, and finally, to Sochi. Hanyu, you went with a blue-based costume right? Was that because of any connection (to Shizuka's)?
Yuzu: Well there's something called a jinx. The season before that I had done the same programe but at that time the costume was green, or should I say grey or well, that was the base colour for that costume. But then, for the Sochi season "let's go with blue", that's what (I) had decided secretly. (t/n: if you’re thinking that parisienne 1 was black well, the rest of Japanese twitter thought so too)
Yama: It was in 2012 correct? You shifted your base to Canada and changed coaches. Was that a planned reaction (to the upcoming Olympics) that you wanted to show for the Olympics?
Yuzu: Umm... Actually it was more of considering, at every step of the way, "what is the best thing (I can do) in order for me to acquire my skills?" and the result was that I moved to Canada.
Yama: In the beginning you were a Hiroshima baseball fan weren't you? Yuzu: (laughs) yes hiroshima is working hard right now, they're in top form. Although that I'm saying this whilst in Sendai is a little...
Yama: Yes it is...
Yama: If I'm not wrong at the rakuten match (t/n: Rakuten Eagles - the baseball team of Miyagi prefecture) you....
Yuzu: Threw the ceremonial first pitch yes Yama: you threw the first pitch didn't you! Yuzu: Yes I practiced extremely hard for it. Yama: You practiced? Yuzu: Yes Yama: More than you practiced your salchow? Yuzu: ahhh.....that's not possible (laughs)
- Courtesy of Asahi
[15:42]
Yama: Alright so how was it? You moved to Canada, what were the changes that occured in yourself?
Yuzu: As you'd think, having skaters around you who can jump quads easily (is one thing that contributed) and also, this is the case now but the top level ladies' skaters in Canada, well, the 2nd and 3rd place world medalists if you'd like, are people I skate - no I don't skate with the 2nd, the 3rd - I skate with the 3rd place medalist (t/n: Gabrielle Daleman). So in that sense, it's not just the men or just the ladies (that skate well). It's a place that overcomes that classification, where a high level of skating takes place, and being able to skate there provides a different sort of stimulus.
Yama: About Javier, it seems everytime you look at the reports it's always something like "I really like Yuzuru!". It seems like an extremely good team relationship.
Yuzu: Yes that's right. But um, maybe from last season? Up until around last season during practices and such we got along really well but recently... recently? Mm, after starting this season we both seem to be becoming more aware of each other. It's not like we're at odds with each other or anything, it's more like "let's do it today", that kind of atmosphere. (t/n: ie, they’re a little more competitive)
[16:50]
Yama: And now you've won GPF 4 times in a row Yuzu: Thank you very much Yama: It was just right before Sochi that you starting winning all these titles wasn't it? Was there anything that changed?
Yuzu: No there wasn't anything special. I just simply wanted to give my own performance, just wanted to become better and it feels like those thoughts finally took on a (tangible) form. Especially at the very beginning of the season shown on this monument, when I first took the WR in the SP. Um, how do you say this, up till now the whole premise for my own jumps have primarily been to be clean, beautiful, to have a good flow out of the jump and above all else for it to match with the music. That was something that I often couldn't really do well in during the actual competition. The competition where all that was well-encompassed was - well perhaps I should say program instead of competition - the program that encompassed all that was this. Parisienne Walkways.
Yama: I see. And during the actual compeition, after the SP ended you had the FS. How was your psychological state then?
Yuzu: You mean during the Olympics right? Well, I was nervous. Especially during that time - well I think it will be the same for this next Olympics too and am making preperations for it - because the rink where Figure skating takes place is the same as for the Short Track competition in speed skating. So if the short track competition is in the morning, the practice session is before that so then it happens quite early. This time, the broadcasting rights have been acquired by an American TV station, so in that sense the timings of the competitions become even earlier, and so do that of the practice sessions. Ah well, what I wanted to say is, I won't be getting enough sleep.
Yama: Ahh Yuzu: When the SP ends it's probably about 10 o'clock and after that is the doping test, so by the time that ends and I return it's probably around 1 o'clock, and then the practice is at around 7 o'clock, so I really only have about 5, maybe 4 hours of sleep time. It's going to be that kind of hard schedule.
Ends @ 19:14 // EDIT 18/4/17 - fixed some formatting errors (like who said what), made some parts clearer, added time stamps thanks to @raomina!
Part 2 over here :)

SUPERGIRL RANT
I am happy that Katie Mcgrath is a series regular on season 3. I am. But at the same time I’m terrified for her and the other series ‘regulars’ cause the SG writers are just crap when it comes to giving their cast screentime. I mean right now they have 7 series regulars and we barely see maggie or james. Like why can’t they find a way to balance screentime. I mean AOS usually has 8-9 characters in an ep, but each charater still feels like they have contributed something important to the episode. TBBT has 7 series regulars + recurring stuart and they all have screentime. B99 also has 9 series regulars with Andy Samberg in the forefront but everyone still gets screentime. I mean come on tbbt and b99 are only 20sth minutes long. I mean they can still make the show about Kara and balance the cast’s screentime. I’m just so frustrated that we keep seeing mon el all the time, the karamel scenes are so long when they dont have to be. Also, sometimes they have pauses in fight scenes or dramatic scenes that seem too long and could’ve been used for a few more seconds of sanvers or james. UGH I’M JUST SO FRUSTRATED OK. THIS IS NOT A HATE POST I AM JUST EXPRESSING MY FRUSTRATION. I AM ALSO SCARED THAT MAKING KATIE A SERIES REGULAR MEANS THAT SHE MIGHT BECOME A VILLAIN. PLEASE DON’T. I LOVE LENA PLEASE. AS MUCH AS I WANT SUPERCORP TO HAPPEN I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS THE CW AND THAT YOU’RE STILL COWARDS AND CAN ONLY SHOW ONE GAY COUPLE BUT AT LEAST KEEP HER AS KARA’S FRIEND. SHE DOESNT HAVE FEMALE FRIENDS OF HER OWN. ALL HER FRIENDS ARE MEN WHO HAS SOME SORT OF ROMANTIC INTEREST ON HER AND I THOUGHT THIS SHOW WAS ABOUT DIFFERENT FEMALE DYNAMICS UGH I AM ALSO SO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE JUST WHEN I SAID I WOULD STOP WATCHING SUPERGIRL THEY MAKE KATIE A FREAKING REGULAR AND NOW I AM TRAPPED IN THIS FREAKING LESBIAN PURGATORY OF A SHOW AND I CANT FREAKING QUIT GAAAH HELP ME MOVE ON PLEASE
#supergirl#sanvers#supercorp#i was freaking done with the show then they make katie a regular#i am so sorry for my grammar i have so mich emotions i dont even care for grammar anymore#grammar can fuck itself#spelling too#god dammit i wish i knew how to quit you

[ENG Translation] Free! Eternal Summer - Another Story Interference of a Fantasy (based on the Sourin Mook Drama)
Thank you @otp-tears for proofreading this!
Sousuke: So the location of the deal is in a nightclub. How annoying. My target…there he is. At the counter, huh.
(what? No sousuke awkwardly dancing and maneuvering himself to the counter?? nooooooo)
Minami: Here’s the stuff.
Uozumi: First let me check them. *click*
Uozumi: *sniff sniff* These are indeed authentic, used competition swimsuits. It’s a deal.
Minami: Please transfer the money to my usual account.
Uozumi: Okay.
Sousuke: Bingo.
Sousuke: Hold up.
Uozumi: A cop!? Gah!
Sousuke: Do you think you can hit me with such a shoddy attack?
*painful cry*
Minami: Time to go!
Sousuke: No way I’m letting you escape!
Minami: Ow-ow-Ouch! My arm…!
Sousuke: Give it up!
Uozumi: You forgot to watch out behind you! GAAAH!
Sousuke: …! He can still move…? Dammit!
Rin: You always mess up at the last stage don’t you, Sousuke? Heeah!
*painful cry*
Rin: Phew, that’ll do.
Sousuke: Rin!?
Rin: Hee. Yo! Long time no see, Sousuke! (such a cute grin :D)
Narration: Free! Eternal Summer - Another Story
Narration: Interference of a Fantasy
Mikoshiba: Thanks for gathering here, guys! I’m Chief Inspector Mikoshiba. Today we’ll have a new addition to our team! Matsuoka, please introduce yourself!
Rin: I’m Matsuoka Rin and I transferred here from Interpol. My name sounds like a girl, but I’m a guy.
Mikobashi: So you just happened to be at the club before you started your new post today and helped out with the arrest? You sure have some strange luck! And those shark teeth of yours are pretty cool! All right, your nickname from today on will be SHARK! Gahahaha-!
Rin: …Huh?
Mikobashi: And our first task for Shark will be…patrolling!
* * *
Sousuke: I still can’t believe you transferred here, Shark.
Rin: Shuddup, Sousuke. Call me Rin like usual. Also keep your eyes on the road when you’re driving.
Sousuke: Alright, alright. But you should call me Senpai, y'know? You might’ve come from Interpol, but right here, I’m your senpai.
Rin: Oh fine. Sooousuke-senpai.
Sousuke: …
Rin: What’s the matter, Sousuke-senpai?
Sousuke: …Actually, forget it. It’s too weird.
Rin: Hahaha, you’re right.
Sousuke: Yup.
*laughter*
Sousuke: But anyway, Rin, why did you come back and become a small-town policeman?
Rin: That’s because I want to protect this town with you, where we grew up together.
Sousuke: Rin…
Mikoshiba: (on the radio) There’s a new case! Shark! Whaley! Come to the crime scene at the Nakagawa Corporation’s estate quickly!
Rin: “Whaley”…?
Sousuke: …The Chief just likes to call me that. Let’s go! *siren*
(T/N: Shark whales are called Jinbeizame in Japanese which is literally “Jinbei shark,” due to its skin pattern resembling a kind of traditional Japanese robe called “Jinbei”. So Mikoshiba’s nickname for Sousuke is actually “Jinbei,” but I chose to translate it as “Whaley”)
Nakagawa: When I woke up this morning, I found this warning note next to my pillow.
Sousuke: “Today we will come for your golden stag beetle statue. The Phantom Thieves, Sea Otter and Duck…”
Rin: The Phantom Thieves, Sea Otter and Duck…?
Sousuke: They are thieves who’ve been causing havoc in this town.
Nakagawa: Well, I can’t just sit around and do nothing, so I’ve devised a fool-proof plan—
Nakagawa: The lights went off!
Sousuke: They’re here!
Nakagawa: Ahh…! The golden stag beetle statue… it’s leaving through the window.
Sousuke: How is it floating like that!?
Rin: Woah! Is that an airship?
Sousuke: Phantom Sea Otter!
Momotarou: YES! YYEESSSS! I’ve caught The Golden Stag Beetle on my line! It’s only one, but it’s a big catch!
Rin: Not so fast! I’m gonna jump onto the airship! Just you wait!
Sousuke: Don’t be reckless, Rin! I’m coming too!
Sousuke: We just barely caught the windowsill with our fingers…what are we gonna do now?
Rin: We’ll break the window and get inside!
Sousuke: Break the window? How?
Rin: Hehe, like this! GAAH!
Sousuke: …You’re carrying a gun.
Rin: Don’t underestimate a former Interpol officer, Sousuke-senpai!
Sousuke: Well done, Junior!
Rin: Alright, let’s go! Sousuke!
Sousuke: Okay!
Sousuke: So we’ve finally made it inside, but…
Rin: This is where things get dicey.
Nitori: Oh, geez…how awful of you two to break our window!
Sousuke: Phantom Duck!
Nitori: Nice to meet you, former Interpol Officer Matsuoka Rin-san! My name is Phantom Duck. I look forward to knowing you!
Rin: There’s nothing to look forward to, cos I’m gonna arrest you right here, right now!
Nitori: Oh, that could be a problem. We still have work to do to help people and save the world, so I have no choice but to ask you to take a short nap…with this tranquilizing gun. Good night. *shoot*
Rin: Dammit…you’ll pay for this… (Rinrin that’s a villain’s line XD)
Nitori: Momo-kun—er, I mean, Phantom Sea Otter! I’ve captured two policemen. Let’s fly across the sea and escape!
Momotarou: Roger that!
* * *
*rumbling*
Rin: Yo. You awake, Sousuke?
Sousuke: Rin? Are you all right?
Rin: Yeah. I’m fine. Just a few bruises.
Sousuke: Where are we?
Rin: Seems like we’re locked inside a room within the airship. I can see clouds from the window.
Sousuke: And we’re not only confined, but we have our hands cuffed too.
Rin: This pipe they’ve chained the handcuffs to—I can try to pull it off the wall!
Sousuke: Don’t try by pure force, Rin. There’s a spare key in the breast pocket of my uniform.
Rin: Haha…way to go, Sousuke!
Sousuke: But we can’t use our hands. You need to tear my pocket with your teeth.
Rin: Got it. SHARK! (okay this is where I lost it lol)
Rin: Now I just need to move it toward me with my foot…hah hah…if I can stretch my arms…just a bit more…
Sousuke: Are you getting there?
Rin: Yeah, this is easy peasy! …Sweet! I got the key! Ugh…grrr. It’s hard to use a key with your hands behind you. Alright! I’ve uncuffed my hands! Wait for me, Sousuke!
* * *
Momotarou: Nitori-senpai! Nitori-senpai! The texture of this gold stag beetle statue against the skin…! And the shiny polish! This is perfect~!
Nitori: That’s good to hear, Momo-kun. *beep beep beep* Hmm? Wait a moment. Momo-kun, do you hear something from inside the stag beetle statue?
Momotarou: …Huh?
Nitori: Eeek!? This sound…could this be a bomb?
Momotarou: Whaaaat!? That billionaire! He fooled us!
Nitori: C'mon, Momo-kun! You have to do something!
Momotarou: How am I supposed to know what to do!? Nitori-senpai, how about you do something?
*intense beeping*
Nitori: It’s gonna explode—!!!
Momotarou: GYOEEEEE!!
* * *
Rin: Sousuke, I’m gonna get those handcuffs off you right now.
Sousuke: Thanks.
Rin: Woah!
Sousuke: An explosion!?
Rin: Oh shit! The key! Wait for me, Sousuke, I’m gonna grab the key! UGGH!
Sousuke: Grrh!
Rin: What is it this time!?
Sousuke: Rin! Watch out! The window is—!
Rin: Water!? Dammit. We’ve fallen into the sea!?
Sousuke: With all this water gushing in, it looks like we’re sinking.
Rin: Dammit! Where’s the key!?
Sousuke: There’s no way you can find the key with so much water. Rin, don’t worry about me. You need to go or we’ll both drown here!
Rin: You idiot! As if I’m going to escape alone without you!
Sousuke: Shit. The water level is already up to my neck. Rin! Just go! I’ll come after you later…*cough*…!
Rin: Sousuke! Take a deep breath!
Sousuke: *gasp*
Rin: Sousuke…wait for me! I’ll also…!
*struggling noise*
Sousuke: Don’t worry about me! Go now! Rin!
Rin: Almost there…almost…
Sousuke: Go…Rin…otherwise you too will…
Rin: Dammit! *floats back to the surface for air* *dives again*
Rin: Wait a sec, Sousuke, I’m gonna give you some air now! (can we ALL pretend they went where makoharu didn’t go here? XD) …Sousuke!? The pipe broke!
Rin and Sousuke: *gasping for air*
Rin: Are you alright, Sousuke!?
Sousuke: Yeah, only just. What about you?
Rin: I’m okay. More importantly, we need to move quick or the water’s gonna reach the ceiling!
Sousuke: But how do we get out? There isn’t an exit at all. Rin! Look at that!
Rin: Huh?
Sousuke: There’s a crack on that wall over there.
Rin: A crack? Heh…Sousuke. Are you still able to do that thing you do?
Sousuke: by THAT, you mean…?
Rin: Yeah! Let’s do it!
Rin/Sousuke: One, two, three!
Rin: When we were still kids—
Sousuke: —we practiced the hell out of this!
Rin/Sousuke: Somersault Turn Kick!
Rin/Sousuke: *heavy breathing*
Sousuke: Geez, you’re seriously too reckless. I thought I was going to die.
Rin: No way I’m gonna let you die so easily.
*fist bump*
Sousuke: Yeah!
*laughter*
Rin’s voice: Sousuke…Sousuke! Sousuke!
Rin: C’mon, get up! Didn’t you say you’re gonna join me on my morning run?
Sousuke: …it’s morning.
Rin: What’s the matter? You’re even more absent-minded than usual.
Sousuke: I almost…died in my dream…
Rin: Huh? What kind of dream is that?
Sousuke: I don’t remember the details, but you were there too.
Rin: You idiot! If I were there, I wouldn’t have let you die so easily.
Sousuke: …You’re right.
Rin: C’mon, hurry and get ready! Let’s get going!
Sousuke: Okay!

Jareth Reviews: Kong: Skull Island (With Spoilers)
At long last, King Kong has returned to the big screen. Will it be better then the Peter Jackson film from several years ago?
Short Answer: Yes.
The Long Answer: Ehhhhh... it’s complicated.
The Story:
I'm not gonna sugar coat this. This isn't very true to the original film. For starters, it's set latterly days after the end of the Vietnam War, right as the United States are pulling troops out. John Goodman is the head of a group called Monarch (if yo watched the 2014 Godzilla film you already know who they are), who basically try to prove that monsters exist. But Goodman is running out of money, and talks his way onto an expedition as a last ditch attempt to find proof. It just so happens the expedition is going to an island that SOMEHOW remained undiscovered until now, which Goodman discovers is the mythical Skull Island. To aid his team, Randa hires a tracker played by the trickster god himself Tom Hiddleston, and an army helicopter squadron lead by none other then SAMUEL L. MUTHA FUCKIN JACKSON!
*Legal Notice: Whenever you say to type Jackson's full name, you are illegibly obligated to add the words “Mutha Fuckin” between his middle and last names.
So together, the Army jar heads, the fake scientists, the REAL scientists, the tracker, and a war photographer played by Brie Larson embark on their expedition, all while trying to look like a typical Vietnam war film. They soon arrive at a perpetual storm around Skull Island (which doesn't get explained) and they fly through it to the island... and start dropping bombs on it. Apparently they're ment to aid in some geological research, but think it's just to make humans look bad.
Suddenly they are attacked by the king himself, KONG! Created using motion capture. And I know what you're thinking... but it's not Andy Serkis... he was busy playing Apes in other movies. No he's played by apparently two other guys who's names escape me as of this review. But anyway he attack the helicopters causing them to crash and killing a good chunk of the scientists and soldiers. The group becomes scattered and split into three. Hiddleston and Larson are joined by two other Monarch scientists, a rookie soldier played by Thomas Mann, and some other nameless scientist who gets eaten by birds later in the film, who I'm not going to bother.
Jackson meanwhile survives with Goodman, a group of soldiers, including a grizzled veteran played Shea Whighamand the only other “Legit” scientist who again, not gonna bother with his name. They decide to make their way to another down chopper and it's pilot named Chapman, played by Toby Kebbell. As it turn's out, Chapman's helicopter contained the remaining bombs from the expedition, that Jackson wants to use to kill Kong. And boy does Jackson want to kill Kong. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not use to seeing Samuel L. Mutha Fuckin Jackson as a crazy villain... he does good in this role. As for Chapman's big contribution to them movie is talking about his son who's been writing letters to him since he shipped out... as well as sitting on a giant stick bug... and getting eaten by another monster. So sad, very tragic, moving on.
Hiddleston's group meanwhile runs into a group of natives and an WWII fighter pilot played by GAAAH! God dammit it's John C. Reilly! I'm not gonna lie, most of the stuff I've seen John C. Reilly in, I don't really like. There are a few exceptions here or there like Guardians of the Galaxy, but my god! Thankfully, this is also one of those few expeditions. The character he plays is quark, but somewhat knowledgeable and I can;t help but feel some pity for. Anyway. Reilly has been trapped on the island for almost 25 years, having crashed there along with a Japanese Zero Pilot, who was killed by what he calls a Skullcrawler, a terrible creature that lives underneath the island. Kong's ancestors protected the island and Natives from them, but Kong (who is still growing BTW) is the last of his kind.
Needing to meet up with a rescue group on the northern end of the island. Hiddleston and his group help Reilly complete a makeshift boat he was building using old Airplane parts, at the same time Larson finds a Giant Water Buffalo pinned by Helicopter wreckage, and works to free it. Coming in contact with Kong and earning some points with him for her good behavior. The group soon after leaves the village, joined by Reilly who want's to go home and they soon meet up with Jackson's group, in since then have battled a giant spider and awakened a tree full of man eating birds... who previously ate the first unnamed legit scientist.
In order to reach Chapman's site, they need to cross a toxic area where Kong's parents fell to the Skull Crawlers. They end up doing battle with the Skullcrawler that ate Chapman. Goodman gets eaten, and Hiddleston finds Chapman's bloody dogtags. A this point Jackson's true intentions are revealed and he orders his men to continue with his makeshift mission. Hiddleston and the others continue on ahead where he and Larson have another encounter with Kong, just as Jackson begins blowing crap up again to draw him into a trap. Hiddleston, Larson and Reilly decide to save Kong and confront Jackson just as he's nearly defeated Kong (who also stepped on the last surviving legit scientist). However the bombs wake up an ADULT Skull Crawler and the group flees as Jackson gets crushed by Kong and OH BOY is it a satisfying death.
The group flees but are chanced by the Skullcrawler who sadly kills Whighamand who was trying to sacrifice himself to allow the others to escape. Seriously, that death is kinda a low blow to the character. Anyway, Kong shows up, battle's the monster and Larson gets knocked into the water. Kong saves her but the monster tries to eat Kong’s fist with her in it, leading to one hell of a FATALITY! It's like something out of Mortal Kombat! Anyway Hiddleston revives Larson, the people escape the island and Kong Roars. During the credits we see Reilly return home to meet his wife and adult son. And personally I am REALLY GLAD for this happy ending. This character deserved it.
Also we get a post credit scene where Hiddleston and Larson meet with the surviving Monarch scientists and learn that there are other monsters in the world, including GODZILLA, setting up for a future film which is still a few years away.
Overall Thoughts
When compared to Godzilla and the Peter Jackson Kong film, this blows them both out of the water. The effort that went into this film to make it feel like the early 1970's was pronominal. They were a few too many slow motion action shots, but I can look past that rather easily. Although this wasn't really true to the original King Kong, there were some nice nods to the original film and other previous versions. The characters were... I hate to say this... kinda bleh. Goodman had an interesting backstory, he was the survivor of a Godzilla attack and spent his life trying to prove these creatures existed. But once they were on the island... he kinda took a back seat to everything, and when he died I didn't really care that much. They didn't go out of their way to make him sympathetic or hated for lying about the dangers on the island. Hiddleston also had some backstory about a father not coming back from World War II, but again I never really became invested in that story.
I felt no real impact when these characters died... EXCEPT in the case of Chapman and Whighamand. Chapman's death came as a surprise to me because they set up so much back story with this character and dedicated a great deal of time to him. And Whighamand's character had some great funny moments in the film, making his death and failed sacrifice all the more tragic. The only other characters I enjoyed was Reilly's, who I personally felt stole the show and.. well... KONG. The makes of this movie took time to actually develop a BACKSTORY for Kong, they show us Kong. We got to see how he interacted with the island, what he did in his of time. It's not always battling giant monsters, he enjoys sitting a looking up at the night sky, he mends his wounds and eats SQUID. Mind you, he isn't nearly as developed as the Kong from the Peter Jackson film, but he still gets WAY MORE screen time then Godzilla got in his film. They succeeded in spiting the story and action between the human characters and their giant monster, and I give them credit for that.
This is a CGI heavy film, and while I'm not opposed to CGI in film, I would have liked to have seen a few more practical effects in this film. Especially with the explosions, seriously If you wanted to make this a perfect period film would could have shot some live action explosions and integrated them into the film. That said, the creatures did look good in CGI. Kong looked amazing, the Skullcrawlers and giant bugs were frightening and the giant water buffalo we got to see in the film were FANTASTIC. For a moment it felt like I could reach out and touch them. The only time the CGI didn't work for me was in scenes involving the man eating birds, they just looked too artificial too me. It's one of those rare moments where animatronics would have worked better, and really, I would have loved to have seen animatronics used in this film. The slow motion shots looked good and were done in interesting ways, but they were used waaaaaaay too much for this film. The music was... forgettable... honestly I had no care for the music in this film and didn't even bother to remember any good use of it, other then Kong's introduction scene a half hour into the film.
FINAL VERDICT ON KONG: SKULL ISLAND
It's got great moments and it's acceptable, but honestly I feel it could have had some better effort put into it.
Story: 7/10: A good attempt to modernize the story and bring it into a larger universe.
Characters: 6/10: They need to put in more work to make the characters interesting.
Effects: 6/10: The monsters looked good, but there was too much CGI and Slow mo for my taste.
Music and Score: 3/10: Totally forgettable except for one scene.
Rewatch: 6/10: I might see it again when it comes out on DVD, but chances are I won't watch this too often.
OVERALL SCORE: 6/10: It's okay, could have been better.
