THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE: DISCUSSION
!CONTAINS SPOILERS!
well, hello, I guess many of you haven't seen me for some time so here's the thing - I've been isolating myself ever since the trailer came out. I wanted to have a clear mind watching it at the cinema, so I uninstalled Tumblr and YouTube etc etc
I’ve just gone back home from the premiere of Fantastic Beasts 3 and oh my, I have so many mixed feelings about it, so here I am, just in need to put it off my chest and hoping to start discussion
First of all, WE FINALLY GET THE LOVE CONFESSION ON SCREEN!!! When I tell you I gasped so loudly when it happened, and it was lilke 2 minutes after the begging!!
I am SO DISSAPOINTED BECAUSE WE DIDNT GET ANY FLASHBACKS, all these years I've been waiting for some summer of 1899 flashbacks and for what?
THE NEW GRINDELWALD IS SO WELL PLAYED, I started to hate him even more after this movie, especially after the final of the three-way duel
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED WITH CREDNECE, I mean, the whole thing was just too much for me, so messy, at some point I thought he’s Albus’s and Gellert’s child
THE GOOD THING IS, I’M SURE THERE’S GONNA BE AT LEAST ONE MORE PART, so I still have something to anticipate for

Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald 🐉
I saw this movie in theaters yesterday, and I’m ready to spew my thoughts on it ~
Non-spoilers thoughts
for a movie called ‘the Crimes of Grindelwald,’ there sure isn’t a lot of Grindelwald and his crimes O_O
Jude Law was perfect as Dumbledore, and this is coming from someone whose favorite character is Dumbledore, though he didn’t get as much screen time as I hoped ;_;
the visuals were beautiful as usual. the visual effects team was flexing and I was shook lol we get a lot of new magical creatures too and they were so pretty!!! ✨
the screenplay was quite fragmented, I think. The plot is really quite simple but the way the screenplay was made it seem like there was a more complex story than there actually was. Because of that, I recommend paying attention the whole time lol this isn’t a casual watch if you want to know what’s going on.
Not going to lie, I think the trailer was a bit misleading 😅 The focus of the trailer doesn’t exactly match up with what the movie actually focused on, I’ll go into this a bit more in the spoilers section.
I enjoyed this movie because I like these characters, this world, and I am patient and faithful that the producers know what they want to do with this series. I have to say though that if you’re looking for answers, you’re not getting any from this movie and if anything, it raises more questions.
This is definitely a transition movie for the next one, so if you haven’t watched it yet, go into it expecting that. I believe some people are disappointed with this movie not because the movie was bad but because it just didn’t give them what they expected.
🚨Spoilers Below🚨
There was a lot of romantic subplot lol I don’t hate it, but at some point I just wanted to laugh because the amount of romantic subplot got kind of ridiculous and unnecessary. With something like a love hexagon, it was kind of inevitable.
What could have been cut: We have Newt, Leta, and Theseus forming that awkward two brothers + one girl triangle. Then there’s Newt and his employee (I forget her name, but she was cute!!!) who has a crush on him. Then there’s that drama between Newt and Tina just because a newspaper reported wrong about Newt, Theseus, and Leta’s relationship. Then we also have Credence and Nagini where no evidence actually exists but come on. The tension is there.
The legitimately important romance: Then we have Queenie and Jacob’s marriage drama which tbh is the most relevant romance in the whole movie because breaking the taboo against muggle-magical marriages is actually how Grindelwald manipulated Queenie. And of course, Dumbledore and Grindelwald which is another relationship that is actually relevant but did not get enough screentime.
speaking of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think their relationship was portrayal fine 👏 The movie did bend over backwards to explain away Dumbledore’s love for Grindelwald for non-fans, BUT!!!! Jude Law is amazing and I can see that his character is hiding something throughout the whole movie.
I won’t judge how the producers handle Dumbledore’s love until the series is over because at this point, it’s not yet an appropriate focus. Only Dumbledore (likely Grindelwald too) should know about his feelings, and it clearly wouldn’t be in his interest to reveal those emotions in mid-20th century England, so I would like to believe the movie is simply reflecting that and as Dumbledore experiences more pressure further in the story, more pressure will be placed by the producers on his feelings.
A lot of people hated how the movie made Dumbledore’s unwillingness to fight Grindelwald be about their blood pact. What I saw though was that Dumbledore was relieved that that was the conclusion Newt came up with. I think he’s actually happy that he can use the pact as a cover. Why? Because he doesn’t want people looking into the real reason he won’t fight, his past and feelings for Grindelwald. Again, Jude Law carried so much this movie, and his acting is the reason I have faith in the portrayal of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship.
Grindelwald is portrayed so damn well, ya’ll.
The way he manipulates people and gains supporters just from talking is just what I would expect from him and so true to real life fascist tactics.
If people followed Voldemort because they were scared of him, people follow Grindelwald because they agree with and trust him. He is every bit as charismatic as I imagined, and I can see how he even got Dumbledore to agree with him at some point.
I don’t know how much of this was just Johnny Depp’s improvisation, but the way he uses his wand is smooth. It’s like a freaking extension of his body?? He fanned those blue flames like they were his orchestra?? Anyways, I’m super happy with this character!! ✨😍
Like I said before, this was definitely a transition movie. the trailer made it seem like the movie was about Grindelwald’s movements and the reveal of his connections with Dumbledore, but that’s not really the plot we got...
the entire actual plot can be summed up with “who is Credence?” and we still don’t get a definite answer by the end. As for “Aurelius Dumbledore,” I don’t know if Grindelwald is just planting what is convenient in Credence’s mind or if we’re seriously getting the lore that Dumbledore actually had another brother. ???? I hope it’s the former because I don’t know how I feel about Rowling changing up the Dumbledore family lore that much ;n;
I was excited about Nagini, Leta, and Flemel, but there was so little focus on Nagini and Flemel that there’s really not much I can say OxO I liked Leta but I fail to see how she and her half-brother are relevant in this story other than as a misdirection about Credence’s identity. I guess that’s my biggest complaint about this movie: the not very creative ways it tried to make this simple plot more complex. I would have preferred they stuck with the vanilla version than complicate things and badly 😔
I’m definitely hyped for the next movie, simply because I want answers, and I expect more concrete plot progression now that the transition is over. I expect the rest of this series to be focussed on the pushing of Dumbledore to confront Grindelwald and Newt & friends to take more and more of a backseat unless they’ll be helping with that. I love Eddie Redmayne and his Newt, but I can’t see a place for him in the future plot if this series is going to conclude with Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s duel;;;;;
A part of me wishes this story became its own series and wasn’t tied to Fantastic Beasts because now the plot will always have to drag along some characters and themes that it would be better without, and this movie showed me that.
What did you all think of the movie, those of you who saw it?

Professor Grindelwald!AU headcanons (part 3)
(part 1, part 2)
- Sometimes, after an exam, Grindelwald randomly divides the papers in two neat piles on his desk, right in front of the students. Then, he touches one of the piles and prophesies: "Yes, I do foresee a lot of very unsuccessful grades and ignorance, in these ones.";
- Also, during the exam itself, he likes to quietly stare at what his students are writing down, then grimace visibly (especially when the answers are absolutely correct), and leave with a disappointed shake of his head and click of tongue, just to send them into a crisis;
- Albus and Gellert correct quizzes together and, thanks to Dumbledore's persuasion and good influence, Grindelwald's students begin to score (slightly) higher grades;
- Grindelwald would be very open about his and Albus' relationship, while the latter would be more cautious, and not willing to attract unnecessary attention. Despite his resolve, though, GG and AD would often be seen walking arm-in-arm in the corridors;
- Gellert would be the most physically affectionate of the two;
- On the other hand, Albus would talk non-stop about that man, to the point of being annoying. "Gellert and I" this, "Gellert and I" that (like in the movie), while everyone else- especially Minerva- would be like "🙄";
- When Dumbledore proposes to dine at the Hog's Head Inn, Grindelwald and Aberforth's first meeting goes like this, pretty much;
- Gellert is a very early bird, he wakes up at the crack of dawn, despite any lack of sleep. Albus likes to sleep in a bit more, usually;
- The morning after they sleep together for the first time, Grindelwald wakes up first and sneaks out.
When Albus does eventually wake up, he finds a lavender flower and a note on the pillow:
Dear Albus,
sorry I did not wake you up, but you looked so peaceful in your sleep, and I couldn't bring myself to disturb such a spectacle.
Worry not about your Defence Against Dark Arts morning class, I will take care of it for you.
I hope to see you after lesson, I would love to take you out for breakfast to that nice, quiet little bakery you so enjoy.
My treat, of course.
Yours, Gellert.
- Gellert accomplishes two things that morning: 1) asks AD on their first, official date, 2) is finally able to teach, at least for that morning, DADA ("couldn't bring myself to disturb you", my ass. Bitch move, but it's still Grindelwald we're talking about lol);
(slightly nsfw under the cut)
- Grindelwald is usually the one who tops, but sometimes they switch. Every time they do that, GG and AD are like:
Tumblr media
- "Sometimes, I can still imagine it around my neck.", yeah, asphyxiation kink for Grindr-wald over there. Sorry, I do not make the rules, nor accept criticism on this;
(Random meme found in my gallery. Picture not mine, of course)
- Praise kink for Dumbledore, bc that twink deserves all the praise;
- Gellert and Albus often sneak out of their personal chambers (GG more than AD) in the middle of the night, just to visit one another. They're worse than teenagers;
- McGonagall officially finds out about their relationship when, one day, she knocks on Albus' door, and Gellert's head cheekily pokes out instead, like "can I help you?";
- Minerva (and the other professors) sometimes finds one of their rooms empty, so they politely ask them to just pick a damn chamber to sleep-in together, so that they can both be found, if they're needed;
- So, obviously, Gellert invites himself in Dumbledore's chambers.

I was scrolling through the gallery of my old phone, as I stumbled upon this (↓) picture.
I sadly don’t know who the artist/creator of it is (if anyone of you knows, please let me know so that I can credit them or delete this post, if they don’t wish for their artwork to be shared) and I also don’t know who it is supposed to represent, but all I could think of was:
“Damn, he looks like a young Grindelwald.”
