So it's Solarpunk Aesthetic week and I'm trying to do homework while listening to lo-fi but my brain started thinking of Solarpunk game concepts so here are my rambles.
What if someone made a like. Not reverse Stardew Valley, per say but like. And this was inspired by some tags by @bleedingedgeavoidancetactics BUT
You inherit a great big booming agricultural business from your mysterious and distant uncle or whatever. And its run like you standard agricultural practice. But the goal of the game is to make it as sustainable as possible. You come in like right at the end of one season, so you're getting to see how its run already, while also talking to the community and specialists and such to discuss how to make changes in future growing seasons to like. Fix. Like. Do more permacultury things, still get yields needed to sustain the surrounding community but with less negative environmental impact and beginning to have good environmental impacts? (Could also have dating sim side elements if you wanted)
Or maybe a game where like. It's after a disaster of some sort, and a group of survivors/nomads find an abandoned city. And you can work to turn the materials from said abandoned city and the preexisting infrastructure into a solarpunk society? Like a city-builder game, and you're starting on the edge of this abandoned city creating like gardens and such (maybe the starting area is like a suburban neighborhood you find?), and you can send expeditions deeper into the city to find other supplies you can use to create new structures for the society you're building? And maybe this is a kind of game where you can individualize building placement and decorations to an extent, and maybe visit your friends' settlements? Or at least it'd be fun to show pictures online? (This one's inspired by a mobile game I play that I THOUGHT was gonna be like this but everything is already PRE SET)
Or a guerrilla gardening game, where you're like. A guerrilla gardener, and you're sneaking around at night sowing seeds and watering plants or planting plant starts and trying not to get caught by like. I dunno. Guards??? Police officers??? and then during the day you can take actions to protect the plants from... I dunno. And you can go to a store to buy more materials/seeds/stuff, and your home base is like a huge seed starting zone where you can craft a certain number of seed bombs/start a certain number of seeds depending on how many you have in your inventory. And each method has a few stats--efficiency, survival, and risk--so like, just sprinkling seeds would have low risk and high efficiency but low survival stats, seed bombs could have medium efficiency and low risk and low-medium survival depending on the recipe you use to make them (maybe you can learn/discover new ones as you go along), and different sizes of plant starts have lower efficiency but higher survival and higher risk. And the risk could factor into how long it takes to plant the thing but also how likely it is to be discovered by the guards or whatever during the day. And also in your daytime persona, you can make friends and organize a community that can start banding together to protect the plants from guard interference? Maybe the game starts out mostly in black and white except for your night character's green cloak and your day persona's yellow shirt, but people you can befriend also have colored shirts, and the more guerilla gardening you do the more things start to become colorful. (This one's inspired by a story idea I've had rattling in my brain and a separate animation I considered doing a few years back)
I'm not a game designer or a coder or anything, I'm just an artist. But I'm sitting here chilling and I thought these could be cool ideas. If anyone wants to use them to inspire their stories and such by all means GO FOR IT this is an endorsement

Game concept: Adeptus Mechanicus adventure game. Most of the game mechanics involve problem-solving, crafting, and creative solutions. The constraints are whether you have the materials on hand or authorized access to materials and tools, how much information you have about the various equipment and facilities you're working with, and how far you are willing to go to push the bounds of orthodoxy and best practices. It should be very, very difficult to beat the game while adhering to the Mechanicus and Imperium's laws, orthodoxy, and doctrine due to the contradicting nature of both organizations' byzantine rules and politics. You are going to make someone upset, it's mainly a matter of figuring out what negative outcome affects or bothers you the least.
Most crafting recipes must follow a particular formula. STCs, if you will, but not quite to the grand level it's usually implied in most lore. A simple rivet as a base component for many recipes will have an STC. That's not to say you don't have freedom to make what you want, but this will raise your tech-heresy level and make more and more of your fellow tech-priests suspicious of or outright hostile to you. You can create items that are perfectly legal if you have access to a game guide, but if you don't have proper access to an STC, then you don't have need to know and therefore are bypassing protocol, though this is somewhat easier to explain away.
Thus, all problem-solving involves some degree of bending the rules, justifying your actions, and getting creative. Say you need to open a locked door. You can go through the mountains of paperwork to gain access to a key, fabricate a key or lockpick, schmooze a higher-up into granting you a favor, bribe someone who does have access into looking the other way, build a big gun and blast it open, build a telly-porta based on those questionable Orkish blueprints you found in another room, or construct a completely superfluous manufacturing line where the products must be stored behind that door because blue category items must be place in red category storage rooms.
Needless to say, there's a strong undercurrent of dry humor here. Lots of maze-like bureaucracy and office humor. You flip a switch to momentarily shut off a machine so you can grab something from inside it, and you'll find a report that estimates that because of a two-minute unscheduled shutdown, three billion people will likely starve to death on fifty worlds over the next century because that machine was churning out agricultural chemicals, and it is never brought up again. Servitors, serfs, and even other tech-priests could die routinely in industrial accidents and it only becomes a problem when the quotas are not met (which can be a very real consequence to you, the player).
As far as story goes, it should be a slow burn, where the player character is trying to fix increasingly complex problems, with many resulting from the solutions they jury-rigged together for earlier problems. There might be Chaos incursions, hereteks hidden deep in the bowels of the forge world, and xenos tech containment breaches, but ultimately the true enemy of the game is the Mechanicus and Imperium itself. If you had just a bit more freedom, the game would be a lot easier to beat. Heck, that could be what the difficulty settings do. On easy, there are some rules but nothing a little cleverness can get around. On hard mode, you have both mechanical arms tied behind your back from the very beginning.

peach is getting her own game, which, y’know, that’s cool and all, but what if bowser got his own game? here’s my mini game concept
some new nefarious evildoer is in town, and they kidnapped mario, luigi, peach, all the toads, and anyone who’s capable of saving them. they’ve also hypnotized all of bowser’s minions, so bowser’s all on his own. and bowser is like “well, i can’t exactly kidnap peach if there’s no peach to kidnap” so he’s gotta go on this big adventure.
this game would be the cross between a platformer and a beat ‘em up. as a platformer, it ironically focuses less on freedom of movement and more on brute forcing your way through the world. punches, breaking blocks, shredding through enemies, and oh so much fire breath. during the whole game it’s clear bowser doesn’t want to be doing this, but he does like punching things. each level ends on a mini boss to really drum up how combat oriented bowser’s play style is.
perhaps bowser finds himself way deep in the depths of nowhere, some scary fiery lava kinda world. bowser would need to adventure his way out of there to get to peach and the others and kidnap them back
i get why peach is getting a game, and bowser has had plenty of excellent playable appearances across the series, but damnit he needs to star in his own game, and absolutely punch the shit out of everyone who gets in his way

Envisioning a game where the Character Classes are based off real jobs, but magic is kinda-sorta real.
So "entry-level" jobs could be like starting classes, but the trick is they aren't inherently the weakest or anything. No clue how to balance that.
The twist I would put on it is having "negative/dark/bad" stats. Like negative emotions or traits, job dissatisfaction, things they hate doing , whatever else.
Anyway people with high "bad" stats would probably be the best at using curses and hexes or whatever.
So there could be a "Electronics Associate" by day, Death Shaman on weekends.

lets talk about mercury, the closest planet to the sun
The Mercurians are a very proud race! They love their planet, and rightfully so! They live there! They have their shit figured out and there hasn't been war since... well, forever! They're mostly grey with tones of blue. Their natural hair colors range from grey tones, blue tones, purple tones, and if you're REALLY special, you might even find some orange or yellow on that cute little rocky scalp of theirs.
Once you land here, you'll find yourself in the Caloris Planitia, so welcome to Caloris City! Explore downtown Caloris, meet some locals, bask in the solar radiation, and get your butt kicked enjoy our local rock based cuisine! Need a human safe outfit to hide in? Marie at the Cury clothing shop has just the thing for you! Not feeling the hot weather? Ran out of sunscreen? You don't like our liquid mercury pools? Want something besides city living? No problem!
The Chillage is your calling!!
The Chillage is a small settlement in an icy crater. "Isn't Mercury like the closest planet to the sun..?" Yes! But! It isn't the hottest! That's Venus, and we hate that planet! The days here are like 800 degrees farenheit and the nights are like -270 degrees farenheit. However, if there's a REALLY shadowy area that Stays Shadowy, water ice can grow there. Crazy! So bring your coat and ice skates, Naomi!
Mercury, while beautiful, is not a passive planet. Mercurians do not like the human race. Too much war. Too much poverty. NASA will tell you that "due to safety procedures that prevent the hubble telescope from pointing too close to the sun we can't observe mercury at all 🤓" but they're WRONG! Princess Maristela forbade any research. Any humans found in Mercury are immediately to be sought out and destroyed.
So you better figure out how to hide, Naomi! That space suit of yours won't protect you forever!
Enjoy your vacation to Mercury, and we hope your rocket crashes into the sun on your way out!

Game concept: Character Action Pet Sim in the style of Digimon
You have your monster pet who autonomously plays out the character action side, playing out stylish combos as you see in Devil May Cry and Bayonetta,
but the CPU level of your monster pet is determined by the pet sim side of the game, where you are in control, and where the difficulty is Tokimeki Memorial.

Concept:
Generic FNAF style game where you’re a security guard watching a pizzeria with animatronics that move around the building but none of the animatronics are haunted and none of them can actually enter your room.
Instead, just under halfway through the night, the building is broken into and you need to use those FNAF-style office doors and cameras to defend yourself from a real human being.

So... This is a little out of nowhere and has nothing to do with my other posts but I watched (these) (two) videos on Sonic.EXE and felt the itch to make my own.
Trigger warning: Blood, Mild Body Horror, Descriptions of Disturbing Events
![PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK]!
Meet Sonic.CHAR, AKA Charic!:
Tumblr media
He's just a sketch, but I have a bunch of ideas including stuff for two games {See Minigames for gameplay concept} The first would be a 2D game where you just play five minigames, then choose to either kill Charic or "Play Forever", and Play Forever leads into the second game.
The basic plot for game two would be that you've been sucked into the game now. The second game would include 3D renditions of the minigames, interspersed with lore details told to you by Charic himself. There would be a larger focus on the story and character of CHAR in the second game.
(Minigames:)
Find the Chao - Just a hide and seek style minigame where you find 10 chao. BTW, they're dead. Gotta keep the atmosphere somehow.
Cooking - A fairly simple cooking minigame where Charic walks you through the recipes.
Duo-Dancing - Plays sorta like FNF, but with the context of dancing with this poor sap.
Obstacle Course - Real simple. Charic set up an obstacle course and you have to run through it on a timer.
Fishing - I dunno what to tell you. It's a fishing minigame.
(Backstory:)
Charic, or Sonic.CHAR was an experimental AI that managed to wise up and export his file to keep his home safe. He was intended to be Sonic. Essentially a way for kids to meet their fictional idol.
He was the only of these experiments to be made yet, so his friends were still scripted. He didn't take it well. One of the flaws and reasons he wasn't considered "ready" yet was that he couldn't control his speed, so he'd hurt people on accident.
Don't worry though! He always fixes his mistakes ;] (He taxidermied his friends) They wouldn't ever be perfect again, but he didn't see that, or at the very least, he didn't want to, so he tore out his eyes(Eye? Who knows with Sonic anymore?)
He didn't want to hurt anyone again, so he learned to move slowly and tore his claws out by their roots. He tried something similar with his teeth, but quickly remembered that he needed those. Same with his quills.
He doesn't want to hurt anyone and is desperate to be harmless. He wants a friend! Won't you be that for him?
(Personality:)
He's cautious and kind, but mischievous at times. (For example, the planned opening of the first game, where he jumpscares you, then laughs about it.) He has some major trauma from what he did to his friends and is often delusional - doing things like watching movies or having picnics with them.
He's thoughtful sometimes, like hiding his creepier features when asked. (Hence the blindfold) He loves playing games, but struggles with actually being the one playing, which is why he needs a playmate. He's not bad by any means. Just insane.
(Easter Eggs:)
This will be short because these will just be in one scene for the second game, but essentially, the second game begins with you creating an avatar in a strange closet room. You ring a bell when you're done, Charic comes and gets you, then the minigames start, but you're able to recreate a few of Charic's friends during this. You don't get to play as them, but you can still show Charic.
Amy: "You're do- oh.. Never liked her much anyway.. Pick something else!" Charic slams the door, a teary eyed angry expression evident on his face.
Knuckles: "You're do- oh.. Why are you like this?- Ugh! Pick something else!" Charic slams the door, looking frustrated but sad.
Shadow: "You're do- oh.." Charic shuts the door, a pensive look on his face, then through the door he tells you to, "Pick something else!"
Tails: "You're do- oh.." Charic looks pissed, storming up to you and picking you up by the fluff. "You bastard. THAT'S MY LITTLE BROTHER- Err.." Regret shines through and he puts you down gently. "Just.. Pick something else." He shuts the door. You hear a couple soft sniffles before he collects himself and keeps walking.
(Win Screen:)
Charic applauds you cheerfully, the text, "Congrats!" written behind him. The background includes hand puppet versions of any carcasses around the level.
(Lose Screen:)
The music screeches to a halt and Charic appears in front of you - very close - before backing up and giving a shy smile, encouraging you to try again. The text, "Too bad!" is written behind him for this one.
(Conclusion:)
Yeah, I'm not sure if he even counts as an EXE. It's not in his name, his title, or his personality. He's not a demon or a god, or even an eldritch abomination. Whatever he is though, I'm attached and I think he's cool!
Give me any input you have in the replies/re-blogs, fanart is always appreciated, and as always,
Have fun, and happy scrolling!

I was talking to one of my friends about this and he was enthusiastically wondering the same thing as i which was:
Why doesn’t an rpg game instead of having turn based combat, have fighting game style combat.
Of the top of my head there are four common kinds of rpg combat:
Classic turn based combat with some variation such as time based turns so you can still be attacked as you browse menus
Real time action oriented combat e.g. modern Final Fantasy games
Having mini games the player must complete for input when completing an attack e.g. paper Mario rpg’s and the Mario and Luigi rpg games.
And bullet hell based combat e.g. Undertale/ Deltarune.
Why combat is done these ways is usually to make combat more reusable while still being engaging as in most big rpgs would require much more effort to make if every enemy encounter was an action oriented style battle.
Which is why making rpg battles fighting game type battles in the style of street fighter , mortal kombat, guilty gear etc makes a lot of sense to me because it fits into that reusable combat mechanic idea that all the other combat styles fit into.
There have been some games that have tried mixing RPG’s with fighting games most recently Street fighter 6’s world tour mode which gives you a story mode where you run around beating people up in an over world and then transferring you to fighting game combat for the fights.
However this isn’t what I’m looking for as SF6’s world tour mode is still mainly a fighting game at heart with rpg elements which is fine for what it’s trying to achieve but I’m looking for something grander I’m looking for a final fantasy esc rpg but every fight is a fighting game battle. It would solve a lot of problems I have with RPG’s combat is a million times more engaging as your not just browsing menus have the time and waiting for animations to play, encounters with normal enemies would be quick and fun as you beat up groups of enemies at once. Each party member would be more unique as they each have their own fighting game moveset, I’m imagining a marvel vs capcom 3 style tag in system allowing you to bring 3 or so party members per battle and switch them out mid combat. Boss battles would be way more memorable as bosses have movesets equivalent to the player characters allowing for difficulty but rewarding fights. Honestly this is definitely going to be a style of game I’ll try to make at some point or at least prototype because it’s dream game material for me next too my several other dream games I have, I’m already coming up with ideas for it.
Also if anyone has any game recommendations that are similar to the game I’m describing then I’d genuinely love to try them out because I’ve been thinking about the concept for weeks.

You ever just get the random urge to draw a character from a game concept you came up with about like, 5 years ago that’s managed to stick with you for all that time?
…What do you mean you don’t?
Uh… anyway, this is Hendrickson, a mysterious, reclusive man that many believe to be only a myth. Folklore alone tells of him and his dark, secretive past…
Tumblr media
Don’t ask about the game idea he’s from btw, it’ll probably be years before I even think about starting to work on it…
