Something I love about BG1+2 is how it simultaneously plays and subverts the demigod/chosen one narrative (which continues in BG3, except with only the subversion. (And Halsin is not joking when Durge tells him what they are: Do NOT advertise that you're a Bhaalspawn.))
I've always been fond of the set up in Saradush in ToB, where the surviving children of Bhaal are being corralled into the besieged city under promise of protection against the entire world - because basically literally the entire world is trying to kill the Bhaalspawn: Your more powerful siblings want you dead; your mortal neighbours, and likely your nation itself either thinks you're inherently evil and are ready to kill you, or you represent such a threat that they're ready to drive you out and/or kill you just in case. Case in point: the aforementioned siege outside the city walls with the army that wants you dead currently raining giant flaming rocks of death over your head.
Some of these guys have no idea what they are, or what's happening, until attempted murder happens.
Like this discussion with one of your random brothers, a guy called Alexander:
Tumblr media
Alexander: "You don't look like one of the locals. Are you a child of Bhaal as well, lured here like the rest of us to face our inevitable end?" Charname: "As well? What do you mean?" Alexander: "I myself am one of Bhaal's progeny - or so I've been told. I guess Bhaal's blood runs thicker in some of his children than in others." Sarevok: "By your snivelling manners, I would say Bhaal's blood runs very thin indeed in your veins. Bah-why do I even waste my breath tormenting this cowering cur?" Alexander: "Uh... is there anything else I can help you with?" Charname: "How did you get here exactly?" Alexander: "I wasn't brought here by Melissan, like some of the others. My home village was burned to the ground by a dragon who claimed to be hunting me. My friends... my family... they threatened to give me to the dragon if I didn't leave. So I did. And I heard a lot of other Bhaalspawn were coming here. *sigh* Now I almost wish I hadn't come."
Spoiler alert: He dies. Every single Bhaalspawn in that city dies*, along with everybody except a handful of commoners (*except maybe Viekang, who was not particularly inclined to murder me, so Murder in Baldur's Gate is weird.)
You, a simple peasant from a farming village one day come of age and learn that your absent father was a god, and you are forced to flee forces that are trying to kill you (in this case, your much more powerful half-brother)... it sounds like the start to some kind of fantasy epic, but instead of any fancy destiny you end up in a war torn city surrounded by castoff divine bastards just like you, terrified and unwanted, and then you die, and are forgotten.
And that's what being a Bhaalspawn is!
Whatever grand lies Bhaal tells you in your dreams about how you're special and great power awaits you (if you behave and do his will), your job is: sow death, faith, fear and chaos wherever you roam, strengthen Bhaal's power, and then be a good child and die for Father. No exceptions, save perhaps one, who is explicitly a special prophecy child, and even then is supposed to be doomed by future FR canon because they're still Bhaal's "pawn". There's also Imoen, who might be spared simply by proximity to said prophecy child keeping her alive. Non-game "canon" screwed her over hard. (FR canon and I have a complicated relationship, it must be said. All copies of those books are to be ritualistically burned.)
idk where I'm going with this, I just love how bleak the situation in the city is. No grand destinies, only a discardable pawn to be used, abused and consumed.
...And also that part where Tethyr sends an army to kill you because obviously you are guilty of "crimes against [Tethyr] and, indeed, all of humanity!" by supposedly killing a whole city: They admit they can't prove it, but you're a child of murder, you were born guilty even if you didn't actively do anything.
No, really:
General Jamis Tombelthen: "You are guilty, [Charname]. Of this there is no doubt. And we will not risk your further endangerment of us all. You are a spawn of Bhaal and responsible for the destruction of the city of Saradush*. Your execution has been ordered, [Charname]. May the gods have mercy on your soul."
* I implore you to move with great urgency to intercept the Bhaalspawn before they can do any more damage. Whether or not they are responsible for what occurred in Saradush, we cannot allow them to continue and cannot afford the time for trial... - Tombelthen's orders, courtesy of the Queen of Tethyr

the gender politics in persona five are so fucking real. ann is hesitant to do modeling full time because she’s victim blaming herself for what happened with kamoshida. ryuji obliviously mentions that ann is missing out on going for a communal bath, forgetting it’s not mixed bathing. yusuke and morgana both put her up on a pedestal-- yusuke seeing her as one of the muses of old, morgana seeing her as not just a love interest but as proof that he’s human, that he can be loved back by a human, and she’s just an object of his desire.
makoto and sae especially-- sae wants her sister to seek power specifically because she’s a woman, because she knows how hard it is to be respected as a woman in this world and wants makoto to have the best chance possible, even though it’s only making makoto miserable to try and play respectability politics in a game where no one gives a damn about her genuine desire to help people. and it raises the question-- how long can people take advantage of her altruism before she gives up on it, before it’s easier to just be bitter and uncaring like she pretends? the road to power is a long one. she’s already tired.

I previously discussed Koner going to a brothel to lose his virginity and then immediately falling for you, the whore he loses his virginity to, the minute you say hello to him (like far before he’s even gotten his cock out). He comes to visit you at the brothel all the time. Whatever money he used to spend getting drunk at taverns is now spent on time with you. Whenever he’s tasked with accompanying a noble on their travels so that he can keep them safe, Koner buys little trinkets and gifts for you. They’re not luxurious or extravagant by any means, just moderately priced little bits and bobs that he can actually afford to waste money on.
The first time he ever buys you anything is only a few months after you’d “made him a man” (his words, not mine). Presently, you’re still a mystery to him; he’s only spoken to you twice — only stuck his cock in you twice, as well. So, he has no idea what to get you; he just knows that he wants to get you something while he’s away traveling. His first instinct is to get you something he likes, but, then, he worries that you might not like the same things as him. Instead, Koner opts to get something that he thinks someone more fair and delicate and less labor-hardened might like. (Of course, you’re no stranger to labor; he knows that. However, at least your kind of labor doesn’t leave you with callused hands and achy shoulders). So, Koner gets you some rouge. You’re polite enough when you accept the gift, but even an idiot could tell that you don’t actually like it all that much. So, of course, Koner, an idiot, can tell that you don’t really like it all that much.
That night, after he’s given you your gift and after you’ve pleasured him, Koner pays for more of your time - something he can only afford to do because he’d been paid handsomely for traveling with the noble - so he can talk to you. He learns much more about you that night. He learns that you can read. Of course, you don’t tell him how, where, or when you learned to read. However, you do confess to him that you can read and that you quite enjoy reading, and you even show him the two books that you’ve collected over the years. One is a book on alchemy that a soldier from King’s Landing had given you after you gave him three orgasms in one night. The other, your favorite, is a diary from some noble, not one important enough for it to matter, but one who evidently had the time to write in one. At first, the diary may seem like nothing special, but, you confess to him that it’s your favorite because it talks quite a lot about the noble’s adventures and even includes drawings of the animals and plants he saw on these adventures.
Three days later, even though he hasn’t traveled anywhere, Koner returns with what he hopes will be a better present. In the days between when he’d last seen you and now, he’d been wracking his brain trying to think of something to get you, something to atone for the misguided gift he’d brought you earlier (not that he needed to atone for that, in your eyes). It finally dawned on him what he should get you, what you might enjoy, just yesterday and, today, he’s brought it with him. Koner brandishes it to you nervously, eager for your approval. It’s a rock, not all that special on its own, but because it has the intricately patterned wings and thin body of a beautiful dragonfly carved into it, imprinted through the natural fossilization process. The dragonfly is evidently the kind of creature that would never dare fly so far north, so it’s something new and never before seen for both of you. He’d brought the fossil back with him from Casterly Rock simply because he liked it, but, now, he can’t think of anything he’d rather do with it than give it to you. That night, Koner learns even more about you; he learns what your beautiful face looks like when it lights up with true, pure joy, he learns about your ever-growing rock collection and how you hope to add sea shells to it one day (you’ve never actually seen them in person, but you’ve seen drawings of them in the noble’s diary), and he learns that the fossil he gave you is easily one of the best gifts you’ve ever gotten (with your other favorite gift being the noble’s diary, which had been given to you by the person who taught you how to read).

For the ask game, 3! I would love hearing about any ideas that have been bugging you to write them!
OKAY so I've been sitting on this one for a few days trying to recall an idea I haven't already talked about.
Soooo omegaverse can be very hit or miss for me, and at one point I asked myself can I make hot, desperate, out of control heat sex a lil more… consensual than often portrayed?
So, in the Read More, we have omega!Kim who's suppressants aren't working and hired heat mate!Chay and they're figuring things out one heat at a time.
So Kim has been using too many suppressants for too long against doctor recommendation, and something something, he gets kidnapped and it's fine except he misses his normal suppressant regimen and suddenly his hormones or whatever are completely out of whack. This is definitely just a contrived reason to make Kim have to experience a handful of heats before he can get back on them. He thinks about just waiting it out, but they end much faster with the assistance of an alpha nearby - they don't even have to fuck, just having an alpha's pheromones nearby can help.
So he goes about trying to find the least alpha-like alpha to hire as a heat mate and ends up with Chay, a college student who likes being helpful and making people feel safe and comfortable and happy and also likes earning some extra spending money so he doesn't have to ask his brother for some.
As Kim interviews Chay, Chay asks Kim what would make him feel safe and comfortable during their time together, and Kim says something grumpy snarky like "I'm not going to feel safe unless you're caged and chained," and Chay is like, "got it! no problem!"
So before Kim's heat kicks in he shows up at Kim's house with handcuffs and a cock cage and a ball gag. He puts the cage on in front of Kim and gives Kim the only key, then puts his pants back on and tells Kim to cuff his hands and legs however he sees fit. So Kim cuffs him to the bed, but then they have to sit and talk for a bit before KIm's heat really sets in, and they end up talking about music and Kim starts to catch the feelings, then Kim gags him when it's time.
But their first time just ends up with Kim jerking off and fucking himself with dildos next to Chay, while Chay provides the pheromones Kim needs. It still takes a long time for Kim's heat to end because Chay can't actually get hard with the cage and that would provide more scent.
The next time Kim trusts him a little more, so he foregoes the gag and absolutely loses it when Chay tells him he's lovely and he's good.
So the time after that there's even more trust, and decides to forego the cage and the ankle cuffs. NOT TO FUCK, just to get those good pheromones he so desperately wanted. So of course, in the midst of his heat he's like "but what if I fucked Chay??" but Chay stops him because Kim didn't consent to it before hand and Chay really does want to fuck him, but he won't right now.
So after, Kim likes Chay even MORE. But he's also paying Chay for his help, and it's Not Cool to fall for the sex worker you hired, so he tries to hide it. Chay also likes Kim a lot, but he knows it's Not Cool to fall in love with your client, so he tries to hide it.
Anyway, each heat Kim allows Chay to do a little bit more, but then the time comes when Kim can go back on suppressants and it's Emotional. They're gonna have to Talk about things.
Anyway I wanted to torture Kim by making him have to ask for the things he wants, and also Chay being his delightful self and somehow still doming Kim even when he's the one tied up.

suuuuusssshhhhiiiiiiiii my love! Thank you for playing with me, and per our dm conversation you settled on the sex worker bobadinluke au series for the director's commentary ask game. Which is gonna be hard since you were there when I was writing it, I'm not sure what I can come up with that you wouldn't already know/vaguely recall, but I'll give it my best shot.
Right away, I'll say that everyone that knows me has dragged me at least once about my fic titles. I'm not great at coming up with them, and usually just pick something at random. At the time I was writing this series, I had this idea of grouping fics together with some very loose theme. Which is why my dinluke stuff mostly have a mando'a words as titles, the big BDL series are all lines from songs by Frank Sinatra, and this series has titles that are all songs from the 2000s. The songs have nothing to do with the fic, except that the one line I used for the title somewhat had something to do with the fic itself. Which I know drives @bronze-lorica crazy, lololol, and I'm sure she'd not alone.
This series started off as three prompt fills. Three people requested "sex worker" from a list of AUs but asked for different ships, and I decided to make my life easier by setting them all in the same, modern world. This series got me by the throat as I was writing, and I'd post a little more, only to be like "Oh! And another thing..." over and over, until there were 37k words of it.
I knew I didn't want to tell an angsty story with this one-- I love angst but I wasn't in the mood--so instead I went with the idea that Luke's a sex worker that's doing this as a means to an end, and is very clear about when the end will be. So, instead of seeing him hit rock bottom and let that be the motivation for the sex work, it's more transitory than that. This is only a moment in his life that we're seeing, and he's very clear about that.
His sex worker style I sort of based on the persona I take on in my client-facing/customer service jobs. Upbeat and patient. "You can trust me" and "We'll get through this together" vibes. And since I like my triads where everyone is a puzzle piece that fits in together, providing something for each person that's unique and different, it synced up nicely to make Din someone with a repressed/religious fanatic background. Luke's very open and non-judgemental, not to mention competent, energy is like Valium to Din. It lets him soften and be more willing to engage in a way that he doesn't really with his bristly husband. Boba's my gruff, blue collar man and when I hit on the idea of him dealing with chronic pain from an accident at a construction site (the Sarlacc building project, he fell into the pit, natch, and then after I decided that, I couldn't stop hearing Andy Dwyer singing "pit. I fell in it, the pit. You fell in it, the pit. We all were in that pit.") it made sense that Luke was able to help him if he was training to be a physical therapist. After that, it was all a matter of teasing those three connection points in different directions to see how the three of them could provide for each other in unique ways. That's really where the plot (such as it is) came from. Writing it was a really organic, natural process, which isn't normally the case for me. But, I guess, I started off knowing the characters in this incarnation really well (and with faaaaaaar more clarity than usual) so it was mostly a matter of seeing where that would take me.

Trans women are like the backbone of Tumblr’s nsft community. Not just in the sexual sense, but in creating welcoming environments with clear communication. They talk about their interests. reblog art, share important info about kink safety. and help carve out a safe space for other trans people to explore their sexuality in a safe environment where they don’t have to worry that their attraction is predatory or “too weird”. It’s wonderful seeing trans women so present and comfortable sharing their desires here!
Thank you Trans Women 💗

I don't know why, but I love Columbo's bit with the burglar guy in A Friend In Deed. Columbo's gotcha utilizing him is good of course, but I just love the idea of Columbo rolling up to this former burglar and muttering, "Wanna help me totally destroy the chief of police, and get to see his face when I do it?"
I like that as far as petty thieves and sex workers ("just close that book and put it where I can't see it.") Columbo doesn't endorse, but also does seem to sympathize with them as regular people living desperate lives.
absolutely. something i love about columbo is that he doesn't judge, particularly not outwardly. it's central to his character. the man literally only cares about murder. he doesn't judge petty criminals. he's weirdly sex positive for his time--he doesn't judge weird guys in polycules or promiscuous cougars. hell, he chides a sex therapist for being too much of a prude.

I could play one of the most beautiful well crafted video games on the planet and it will never be as appealing to me as one that kind of sucks shit but has soooo much potential
#merlin.txt#just finished cyberpunk#i feel like they could have done sooo much more with the concepts they had#the game showed us a bit of everything in the world but i dont think they explored any one topic enough#and they pulled a ton of punches. the ending did not feel like this big 'grab your allies and fuck the corpos' thing it shouldve been#it was mostly just tying up johnnys loose end. one big loop. which i fuck with; but it wasnt rlly anticapitalist at all in that sense#i have a bunch of other thoughts on johnny but ill save it#but god. the beginning (act 1 and the first bits of act 2) where just soooo fucking good#and it rlly felt like it was going to gear up into this huge thing instead of just being one last hurrah for rogue and johnny#AUUUGHH theres just So Much Potential. goddamn#imo i think the major thing is that at some point it stopped being v's story. it was everyone elses#he has Very little agency. which is interesting but man this guy deserves better#when it comes down to it the game Is really shallow. whenever there is any sincerity in themes its very centrist#the fact is you dont rlly meet many characters in game who are Truly working to take down corps except for johnny and he doesnt rlly count#and if there Are its usually played for irony and laughs (looking at kerry) or theyre flat out kind of awful.#judys story is probably the best of the companions bc shes actively trying to help sex workers and its played very positively#i also think two of the main themes (letting go of the past; what it means to die) are Majorly helped by some incredible emotional beats#and w/o some just Really Really good scenes and good repetition of lines and motifs its very tropey.#ok i wasnt going to write a full thing. but let me be clear: i fucking loved this game. i would not be writing so much if i did not love it#the sun ending was Still soooo vindicating. v is still kicking and that's all that matters to me#(it helps that v is a Great protag like one of the Best voiced rpg protags next to hawke da2)#(which is kind of a funny comparison since i think both protags suffer from a lack of agency)#ok im done now

bg3 has quite a strong stance on consent - which i really appreciate especially regarding sexual actions!
Yes! And the fact you can still change your mind and opt out even after all these conformations!
It's genuinely giving you so much control as a player that you never feel helpless or forced into any scenes. Sexual or otherwise.
And not just you, but the companions have the control too. Shadowheart refuses to have sex with you during act 1 celebration because she knows she is drunk and it's very unwise.
You can promise each companion to spend the night with them and still choose to go to bed alone during the end of the day. Even the sex you personally paid for in Sharess Caress, is one you can opt out of anytime.
As much as you can embrace Durge evil run and commit sickening things, they never give you the option to force yourself on anyone. Which speaks volumes about how much they value consent.
I wanted to give the witcher a try, but all the sex scenes really made me uncomfortable because they were never ones I signed up for. I felt powerless with my choices as a player when I tried the game.
