having a completely normal one but anyway thinking about unbound and just how hauntingly beautiful it is. the final sendoff to gamma, and the flicky inside of it. no one really saw the end of gamma, no one knows what happened to it, and maybe no one even thought about the flicky inside either.

and so that begs the question, how much of gamma was the flicky? was gamma acting out of their own actions? were they really going against their programming? did the flicky really have any control?

amy showed kindness to gamma, but did that spark their mission, or would they have done it regardless?

and then omega, does he have a flicky? we've never heard about it, but he is an e series robot. if he does, then is he really going against his programming with everything he does or just following the will of the flicky?

does the desire to destroy all of eggmans robots come out of a desire for revenge and erradication, or a desire to give other animals the chance of freedom he happened to get?

what really makes him different from other robots? he was tasked with guarding shadow, so technically did he ever go against his programming in the first place?

Tuesday, September 19: Gamma, "Four Horsemen"

R.I.P. Ronnie Montrose (1947-2012)

If the first Montrose record was the great hidden gem of early ‘70s heavy rock, Gamma’s second album was the platonic ideal of late ‘70s/early ‘80s hard rock/AOR.  In other words, Ronnie Montrose pulled it off twice, because Gamma 2 was just straight-up awesome, and “Four Horsemen” kicked off with a killer fast-paced opening featuring stellar drumming from Denny Carmassi and a racing riff from Ronnie before switching to a slightly more swaggering groove in the verses.  It wasn’t super metallic, but had a great balance of aggressive heavy rock and classic rock: Montrose’s soloing was dexterous and elegant, and even if Davey Pattison sounded like a cross between Paul Rodgers and Lou Gramm his inflection had just the right personality for the sound coming out of the rest of the band.  Just like Ronnie’s namesake band, Gamma was a great outfit that suffered from bad luck and a mercurial leader that seemed constitutionally incapable of playing the game, but “Four Horsemen” was quintessential classic hard rock for its era that also had a bit of futuristic feel that didn’t sound as cheesy as one would think.

i know you used to be big in the french edm fandom on this site, so did you listen to hyperdrama ? and if so, what were your thoughts ?

how time flies lmao 😂 I have and am indeed listening to Hyperdrama! (Have been since it came out) I think it's a fine album, but almost too evenly, in that I've been slow to find individual tracks that really stand out to me. When Woman came out I immediately had 'Heavy Metal' on repeat for like a month, for example, that same oomph hasn't come for me with Hyperdrama. But on the whole I like more tracks from Hyperdrama than Woman, so ????? 🤔

Everything from start up to 'Explorer' is a banger for me, but it crashes out there, and does not return until 'The End'. When 'One Night/All Night' first dropped I didn't jive with it that much, so I was kind of nervous about how the whole album would feel, but it's grown on me since. 'Moonlight Rendez-vous' could stand to be a bit longer and 'Mannequin Love' should be like 10 mins. I enjoy the album on the whole, however.
