RAW 20/11/23
Good guy, Drew
Tumblr media
Raw beings Drew McIntyre is in the ring as he explains his actions from last week when he cost Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes the Unified Tag Team Titles. Drew’s reasoning is sound. Anyone in his boots would have done the same. He also said that he wasn’t a part of Judgement Day but was given a chance to step into Wargames to fight Jey in a cage. Jey eventually comes out and not one word of sympathy from this man’s mouth. The Judgement Day arrive to back Drew up, as does Cody, Seth Rollins and Sami Zayn for Jey.  Things were about to kick off before Adam Pearce stops everyone. He says that the main event will be one member from each team in a singles match. It came down to Drew and Jey. This was a no brainer. Cody says he has an old friend in mind as the fifth member of WarGames. It’s obviously, Ted Dibiase JR.
The first match was Nia Jax vs. Raquel Rodriguez. They had a short but decent match. A few times, Rodriguez tried to lift Jax, but her back kept giving out. More deadlifts are required, I say! Nia eventually wins with the Annihilator.
Becky Lynch faced off against Xia Li. This one was a bit disappointing story wise. Li has been setting her devastating kick, that caused stoppage for both her last matches. Li did catch Lynch with her kick, but Lynch came back to win the match. It would of be great to see the kick at the very start, and then Lynch has to fight her way back. I don’t like Li’s chances tomorrow night when she faces Lyra Valkyria for the NXT Women’s title *UPDATE* Li lost.
Things got frosty post-match when Damage CTRL made a surprise appearance. Charlotte, Bianca Belair and Shotzi also came from Smackdown. A brawl broke out. Michael Cole wanted everyone to fight because Cole is a mad bastard. This was another nice build to WarGames.
Ludwig Kaiser and Johnny Gargano had a solid match. The tilt-a-whirl faceplant from and death valley driver from Kaiser were two fantastic looking moves. Unfortunately, Giovanni Vinci came to the ring to try and help Kaiser, but caused a distraction. This gave Gargano the advantage to win. Later Kaiser to get a verbal whipping from Gunther. I hope to see a Kaiser and Vinci match down the line.
We had a match to find out who will become the number one contender for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. It was Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell vs. Tegan Nox and Natalya vs. Maxxine Dupri and Ivy Nile vs. Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. This was short but fun match. Carter and Chance had some sweet moves, while Dupri showed the most charisma. I didn’t like Natalya and Nox winning. I just have no interesting in them.
The Miz and Gunther had a battle of words in the ring. Miz says he is an entertainer and is proud because he grew up wanting to be like his heroes; Macho Man, Bret Hart, Rick Rude and Shawn Michaels. Gunther said the Miz is a weirdo who was bullied in school and was bullied by his heroes when he arrived in WWE. I don’t think anyone mentioned bullied the Miz. Gunther tells the Miz that he has no respect for him and that he deserves to be bullied. Gunther shoved Miz a few times, until Miz attacked, but was quickly put down. Miz came back when he resorted to a low blow. I hope the Miz loses at Survivor Series, and then goes on a journey to get his mojo back.
Chad Gable and Shinsuke Nakamura and an alright TV match. This is the second loss for Alpha Academy tonight. This stable need some wins. Like Dupri, I would have liked to have seen Gable getting the victory. He could have won. then you could do a second match where Nakamura gets the victory, followed the rubber match.
The main even was advertised as an advantage match that has gone to Judgement Day and Drew. This match felt non-aggressive for two people that hate each other. Post match had another brawl with everyone. This time the babyfaces left with an announcement that Randy Orton is the fifth member of their team. They didn't mention him by name, but Cody dropped some major hints.
This was a decent episode. Some solid matches and progression for the WarGames matches. My nitpick is that there were too many backstage segments. I hope Raw goes down to two hours so all this backstage nonsense can be shortened or dropped.

NXT: Stand & Deliver - Quickfire Thoughts
Tumblr media
Before Mania there's Stand & Deliver. This one I've not been as close to following but since I'm watching let's see how it goes
Spoilers for the PPV
Kinda sucky that half the women in the ladder match didn't get an entrance
Zoey's Arabian Press onto Indi was pretty neat, she did a lot of the heavy lifting this match
Jayne's interference, while anticipated, really did take the wind out of the match though, especially followed by NOBODY catching Stratton's dive off the falling ladder
The finish was drawn out, Indi needed help to climb a ladder? I dunno the crowd liked it but it also bodes why Roxanne had to drop
The Italian coded guys at least had a cool entrance
Still like the Creeds, they feel like if FTR and American Alpha had a kid
Italian guys' finisher was cool too
2 for 2 in interference
I've had my qualms with Pretty Deadly, but their skit was pretty fun
Even if I want a good fight I have no idea why Wes Lee would pick JD McDonagh as part of his 5-way?
Dragon Lee's entrance was pretty cool, heavy on the slowmo
Wes Lee having a Rock Lee-esque graphic was cool
That flying arm clash between Axiom and Lee was some Matrix stuff
The superkick catching the backflip was Adam Cole vs Ricochet-value
Dragunov is just great
Trick Williams insulting PD's outfits like he isn't just wearing a lighter version of the sparkly blazer
Gargano landed worse on that suplex onto the chair stack
It did eventually end up a bit of a squash, with Candice getting involved, but the fans enjoyed it
The Way (minus Theory) reunite too
Missed opportunity for Pretty Deadly to name their 'PD exclusive' a PDA
Spooky girls are kinda hot spooky
We've actually got some good tag synergy and psychology from the Hot Spooky Girls
A Gory Bomb/Facebuster finisher is clean too
Dunno what the finish was about, probably need story context but it's still kinda weak
Bron/Melo did not need a ref bump
Can't see why Bron is okay about losing the title after Trick hit him from behind with the belt after he had the visual submission on Melo, kinda weird that, but Melo was the right person to win
Conclusion I've seen people say this was better than Supercard but I'm afraid I'm not one of them. No offence to NXT, they put on a good show, but it's still got the WWE-isms of running interference that is unneeded. Consider the fact that only 2 matches had outside involvement, the women's tag titles and the NA title 5-way and the fact that the Waller match was because they have nothing for Gargano or Candice on the main roster and it's still in the middle.
Compared to the last PPV I watched of NXT it was definitely better, some questionable decisions but I've seen improvement here and there from talent. Think I'd have enjoyed it more if I watched it first and then Supercard, you watch Vikingo defy logic then everything else high flying just kinda gets muted y'know?
Match of the Night: same as Supercard, the 5-Way Best Attire: Melo's LA Lakers attire Best Performance: Ilja Dragunov Best Spot: Interceptor Superkick onto Wes Lee

Hello, I have a hot take that I am genuinely curious about your opinion on!
I think that Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole was a better feud in NXT than Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa was.
Sorry, your comment on 2017-2019 NXT had me thinking about this 😂
I think the first set of Ciampa/Gargano was better than Cole/Gargano, but overall I agree, the issue with Ciampa/Gargano is they kept on going...and going...AND GOING, meanwhile Gargano/Cole was only a few ppvs.
Overall tho i just, i'm very tired of that era of nxt, and especially Gargano, but Gargano vs Andrade rules.

NXT Takeover: New York Predictions
Takeover: New York is shaping up to be the biggest takeover that we have ever had. All of the belts are being defended, including the WWE UK Championship, and all the matches feel like a huge deal. There was a definite snag when Tommaso Ciampa got injured, but the show still seems like it is going to be great. Here are my predictions NXT Takeover: New York.
First up is the War Raiders against Ricochet and Aleister Black for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Simple story here, as Ricochet and Black began to team on the main roster, while still competing in NXT. Because of their success as a tag team on Raw and Smackdown, they entered the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic together, defeating Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, the reformed #DIY, and the Forgotten Sons to win the tournament. That gave them a championship match for the show, against the War Raiders. So, this seems like a pretty easy one to book, because Ricochet and Black are already on the main roster, so they shouldn’t win a title in NXT right now. Plus, they have a match on the main roster for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania, so they don’t need the NXT belts. So War Raiders will retain in what should be a fun match.
Next is Pete Dunne vs. WALTER for the WWE UK Championship. WALTER confronted Dunne on his first night in the company at Takeover Blackpool, beating down Joe Coffey in the process. He gathered up some wins in the coming weeks, before teaming with Dunne in a match against the Coffey Brothers. The two won, but there was a serious tension there. Dunne then requested to fight WALTER for the championship at Takeover New York, and the match was made. WALTER is definitely coming away with the win here. Dunne has held the title for so long, they need someone massive, both in size and popularity, to beat him for the belt. Short of the main roster, WALTER is the only one who fits that bill. It should be a great match, with a really historic finish given the length of Dunne’s title reign. This is the match that I am most looking forward to.
Into the women’s division, there is a fatal 4-way between the champion Shayna Baszler, Kairi Sane, Io Sharai and Bianca Belair. After Belair lost to Baszler at Takeover Phoenix due to the interference from Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, Belair teamed with Sane and Sharai in a 6-woman tag match. The faces won the match when Sharai pinned Baszler, causing tension between Sharai and Belair. The two had a number 1 contenders match, but Baszler interfered, beating both of them down as well as Sane. As a consequence of her actions, Baszler was put into a fatal 4-way against all of those women. This is a tough one to predict, but I think that Belair is going to take this away. Baszler has terrorized the locker room for a few months now, and while I don’t think that it is time for her to be called up just yet, I think we need a babyface champion. Io Sharai could also win, but I am picking Belair because of the Sky Pirates’ affiliation with the women’s tag division, belts that they definitely need to hold in the future. So, Belair is probably going to get the win here, but there are so many moving parts that I can’t say that 100%
For the NXT North American Championship, Velveteen Dream takes on Matt Riddle. This is a simple feud, where Riddle continued to express his want for a title match, with Dream refusing each time. Dream finally accepted his challenge after a series of wins, but became startled when mindgames did not work on Riddle. This is another tough one, but I am going to go with Dream retaining, because Riddle hasn’t been in the company all that long, and Dream really should be getting some wins on Takeovers. He has a pretty bad record at the event, so he deserves this win. Plus, Riddle is more of a main event guy. His first belt should be the NXT Championship, after he takes out a big heel.
And finally, in the main event, Johnny Gargano takes on Adam Cole in a two out of three falls match. The match was originally going to be Gargano against Ciampa (reportedly in a title vs. career, or career vs. career match) but Ciampa had to go in for neck surgery, meaning that the feud will be put on hold for a while. Adam Cole qualified for the match by beating Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle, Ricochet and Aleister Black in a fatal 5-way. This is a simple bullying storyline, with Cole telling Gargano that he isn’t good enough and never will be. Plus, the Undisputed Era will probably be at ringside, further stacking the deck. But that doesn’t matter, Johnny is the ultimate underdog, and this is his time. He has spent some time meandering away from his feud with Ciampa, and this was almost the perfect time for the story to come to an end. But, life got in the way, so we have this. Johnny should still win, and maybe him against Ciampa in a ladder match later down the line. Johnny deserves this win, and I cannot wait to mark out for it!
So, those are my predictions for the show tomorrow. Every match looks really great, but I am probably most excited for the WWE UK Championship match, because WALTER is awesome and it will be a historic moment to see Dunne unseated, plus a great match. However, I always love watching Matt Riddle, and the vacant NXT Championship does offer some intrigue in the main event. This could easily be the best Takeover show ever (although most of them have that potential) and I can’t wait for tomorrow!

My Highlights from WWE Elimination Chamber & NJPW Battle in the Valley
Tumblr media
So instead of my usual long-winded reviews I'm deciding on something else, just highlighting the stuff I like from the PPVs, in this case two on the same night
On one end we have matches like Jay White vs Eddie Kingston and Mercedes Moné vs KAIRI, and on the other you have Elimination Chambers and Sami vs Roman. Let's see what I liked
Spoilers for the PPVs, watch them first if you don't want to be spoiled
WWE Elimination Chamber
Starting with the easy one, Montreal's crowd was a huge plus, proper into it just like El Paso was last week on AEW's shows
Liv Morgan x Elimination Chambers, girl just loves some gnarly spots so you gotta appreciate the gusto. Liked the way she was eliminated too, even if I had hoped she'd be final two
KANA. Asuka is on yet another resurgence and she deserves it. Back to her roots, she once again proves to be the most viable opponent for the champions, and frankly I think she should beat Bianca (tbf I wanted Asuka vs Charlotte: the revenge so we could get Rhea vs Bianca but this way if okay too) so she can get a world title reign that doesn't get bullshitted over
FINALLY DOING THE HOLLYWOOD PARODIES
Beth Phoenix sporting a bit of Bull Nakano facepaint
Dominik's ability to draw heat is great, he knows his role
Balor crossing from under the ring to sweep Edge
Beth and Edge did the Big Rig (Cole it's not the Shatter Machine anymore)
We need Rhea vs Beth one-on-one, make Rhea champion and have Beth challenge down the line
Starting the US title EC with Gargano vs Rollins, a feud we should have for Mania instead of Rollins vs Logan Paul
Theory locking himself in the pod was a better spot than when Carmella did it
Tezzy Ford, to absolutely nobody's surprise, did amazing, he's a year overdue in needing that singles run
Roman's character work during the match (which was slow going) is still great, even gaslighting Sami's wife. The psychology in hindsight was good too, because all the rest holds was to INTENTIONALLY kill the crowd energy, because that cut off Sami's energy source from Montreal's crowd
Also Sami's selling, not just for taking offence but also dishing it out, you feel the adrenaline carrying him through
Heyman thinking he could fight Owens
NJPW Battle in the Valley
A surprise mention of Mascara Dorada's (aka Gran Metalik) AEW Dark win run
Adrian Quest and Kevin Knight, as well as Dorada and Volador Jr's, synergy was great
The sheer madness it is that Hideo Itami vs Darren Young (with Aiden English on commentary) would've been a 205 live taping at best in WWE and yet it's now a title match on a NJPW PPV
KENTA being a bastard, hell put KENTA vs PAC as a feud have a proper Battle of the Bastards
Rosser's STF-Chickenwing was unique-looking
Reminder that MCMG debuted 17 years ago and they're still great
That one fan who sold Jay's Too Sweet like he was just given $100
Jay White also being a bastard, he will land wherever he ends up
The absolute CRACK you hear when Eddie chops someone, few do it better
Eddie outwitting Jay by rolling out of the ring after being hit with a Blade Runner
Jay kicking out of 3 Urakens, a half and half and a Northern Lights Driver!
Eddie giving Jay respect post-match as well, Jay could've easily left after Hikuleo, he could've just disappeared but instead he put Eddie over afterwards. I'll say again, he'll land wherever he ends up
Dave Finlay's promo after makes sense, that's how you get heat
Tom Lawlor hamming it up
Homicide sporting a Jay armband for Jay Briscoe
DVD, off the ring, through a door!
Commentary taking time to thank Jay White for his career
Watching ZSJ transition through submissions is like watching a sculptor work clay
I've only ever seen Clark Connors wrestle twice (first time being Forbidden Door) and I've enjoyed his energy both times
Mercedes out with the TCS Hana Kimura look, a bittersweet moment really, a great tribute but god I miss Hana, and I'm still not over the fact that the ones they charged got away with just an $80 fine
KAIRI hitting Mercedes with a table powerbomb off the stage
Mercedes this time hitting the Mone-maker cleanly
Mercedes landed, it was ultimately so important that she landed on her first post-WWE match and she did, she was worth the Mone. As much as I'm sad that KAIRI's reign was short, it makes sense
The stipulation of the main event, Okada and Tana are great wrestlers, but New Japan had fallen back on Tana vs Okada way way too many times
Overall
Match of the Night: US Championship Elimination Chamber (Jay vs Eddie is a close second but in spite of the shit finish I felt more entertained by the chamber)
Best Performance: Sami Zayn
Best Attire: Mercedes Mone's Hana Kimura gear
Best Spot: Montez Ford splashing from the chamber roof

Some of my favorite William Regal moments, in no particular order:
The "Who Attacked Aleister Black?" Investigation (especially when he was trying to interview Nikki)
The entire Ambrose vs Regal feud
Anytime he interacted with Tyler Breeze
Consoling Johnny Gargano after he lost to Andrade Cien Almas at Takeover
Him also telling Tye Dillinger that he believed in him after losing against Eric Young
That time he showed Emma and Dana Brooke one of Asuka's matches after they pissed her off. He really said "Y'all are fucked"without saying a word LMAO
Cameron Grimes. That's it. fjkafk;dnld
Introducing the Women's Tag Team Belts
Bayley vs Sasha Banks's Iron Woman match. That is all.
Every single Pete Dunne interaction
That bit where he said "he felt like the worst father alive" after Kevin Owens attacked Sami Zayn
King of the Ring but especially the tournament match against CM Punk
The "Real Man's Man" rib Byran and the crew pulled on him
Him being "the Dazzler's" sidekick on the JBL and Cole show
The Vile and Venom promo against Triple H from 2004
Dancing with No Way Jose
etc etc I love him okay bye
