So...I guess I’m back?
Tumblr media
With the possible deterioration of Twitter, and finding I don’t have enough time for the immediate future to write articles for websites such as Cultured Vultures and WrestleJoy, at least to the usual standard, it seemed the right time to return to what always felt the best website for me, Tumblr.
I’m probably going to mostly use this Tumblr for irregular posts on a variety of subjects, such as:
Football, predominantly Manchester United.
Films, probably mostly Marvel but any random thoughts or discussions I have in mind that seem otherwise inappropriate for Letterboxd (profile link).
Television.
Wrestling, AEW with sometimes thoughts on Impact Wrestling, NWA, WWE, NXT, New Japan, etc.
Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of ideas about spin-offs, future characters or stories, creative pieces, etc. For instance, I have a series of idea prompts I’d like to share, based on the challenge of “1 Director, Two Actors, Genre”, so if anybody has a suggestion, please submit it!
I also want to suggest some possible Doctor Who spin-offs now that Russel T. Davies has returned, predictions for future films, I have a challenge I’d like to discuss in detail which is “What if the Halloween series was an Anthology like originally planned”, and there may be similar ideas, but who knows?!
For those who don’t know or don’t remember, my name is Sam Preston, I’m an Autistic LGBTQ+ Ally who supports Mental Health, huge big fan of media in general, based in the UK. Any questions, go for it.

NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff Predictions
Ah NXT UK, an often overlooked part of the WWE Network. It took a while to hit its groove, but it’s now a pretty consistent good show. This is a pretty big show, but it seems like it is being overshadowed by All Out and Royal Quest. But I think that it’ll still be good, even great! Here my predictions for NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff.
Noam Dar vs. Travis Banks: this was sorta a match to get two deserving stars on the show. The feud was short and sweet. Dar felt he was entitled to a match at takeover, while Banks was pissed that he takes for granted what Banks himself lost at Takeover Blackpool. Dar then taunted Banks about it, and Sid Scala booked the match. I think that Dar wins this, because he is kinda on a roll, and this isn’t the time to stop him. Should be a really good to great match, I’m definitely looking forward to it.
Dave Mastiff vs. Joe Coffey in a Last Man Standing Match: Now this is a feud. Two big guys that just couldn’t settle their differences, so now they have to have a violent match where one man won’t be able to walk away on his own. I don’t really remember when this all started, but I know that Mastiff teamed with the Hunt against all of Gallus in a 6 man tag, with Gallus getting the win. Mastiff and Coffey then had a brutal match where they both really layed into each other, only for it to end in a double countout. The match was made Last Man Standing after that. I think Mastiff will win, because it seems like he is important enough to get the win here. He should win this, and then maybe get a match against Walter soon. This hoss fight will be violent and awesome, I’m think it’ll be quite fun.
Gallus vs. Grizzled Young Veterans vs. The South Wales Subculture for the NXT UK Tag Team Championships: Just to be clear who is in this match, it is Mark Coffey and Wolfgang vs. James Drake and Zack Gibson vs. Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews. This started with The Grizzled Young Vets complaining about having no real competition, and Gallus challenged them. However, after that, Andrews and Webster showed up and said that the only reason they aren’t being considered for this match was some unfortunate injuries. Andrews and Webster then had to beat each member of the Gallus team in singles matches to qualify, and they did. This is actually a match I’m looking forward to. I love Gibson, Drake, Webster and Andrews, and while I’m not a huge Gallus guy, I think they will have their place. I’m really into tag matches, and there is a lot of great talent here. I don’t think that the vets will lose though. The deck was stacked against them to give them something to complain about and for them to be given a genuine challenge. They will win here, but I could see the Subculture taking it from them later. I think this’ll be pretty good.
Kay Lee Ray vs. Toni Storm for the NXT UK Women’s Championship: once again, started out with a simple #1 contendership situation. Kay Lee Ray won a Women’s battle royal for a championship match, and asked for it at Takeover. Later, they revealed the history between Storm and Ray, where they used to be friends, but Ray has been corrupted since coming to NXT UK. Meanwhile, Ray used this knowledge of Storm to absolutely murder her on the mic, going as far as saying that it was Storm’s is such an awful person that her dad left her as a kid. So Ray is living rent free in Storm’s head. This should be a great match. Storm is awesome, and Ray looks pretty good from what I’ve seen too. I think that Storm will retain, but Ray is probably the gal to take it from her. We just need some babyface wins here and there.
Tyler Bate vs. Walter for the WWE UK Championship: David vs. Goliath. This is like Hogan and Andre, except with two incredible in ring competitors beyond charisma. This all started during Pete Dunne and Walter’s rematch for the title. Dunne looked like he was going to win, when Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner ran in to Walter’s aid. The three then formed Imperium, and started to feud with British Strong Style: Bate, Dunne, and Trent Seven. They had a 6 man tag against each other, but Alexander Wolfe ran in to join Imperium and win them the match. Since then, Imperium has ruled NXT UK and decimated all three members of British Strong Style. Dunne basically disappeared for a few months, eventually resurfacing in NXT proper. Walter powerbombed Bate on the apron to put him out of action for a few weeks, and forced Seven to watch. Walter then destroyed Seven in a one on one match, powerbombing him until the ref stopped the match. Later on, Walter asked Sid Scala and Johnny Saint who would step up for a match at Takeover, when Bate returned like a knight in shining armor. Seven returned a bit later, so Bate has some support in the match. This is a phenomenal story, to the point where I’m totally marking out and rooting for Bate despite my love for Walter, and I’m excited to see the match. This is what I’m most looking forward to, and I think it’ll be great. However, I doubt that Walter loses this. I think that they are building it all up so that Walter can smash everyone’s hopes to the ground. That is what Imperium is, so they need to do it. It’ll be deflating, depressing, hopeless, and will get the exact reaction that they are looking for.

NXT Fake Rankings, 8/7/2021
Last night saw another wave of releases in WWE, which drew attention to a report that WWE is overhauling NXT with "a focus on younger talents." With that in mind, I'm going to list the ages of the current NXT roster (as best as I could determine), so we can try to get a sense of what "a focus on younger talents" means.
One other note: For this list, the final word on who is on the NXT roster is WWE's own website, which fails to reflect a lot of recent debuts and reported trades. (Top Dolla and Mandy Rose aren't listed as NXT performers, but Veer/Rinku still is.) Anyone who isn't listed on the official roster, but has wrestled on NXT or 205 Live in the past 30 days, will be noted in italics.
Men's singles division - heels
Kyle O'Reilly (34)
Dexter Lumis (37)
Cameron Grimes (27)
Kushida (38) (NXT cruiserweight champion)
Drake Maverick (38)
Men's singles division - heels
Karrion Kross (36) (NXT men's champion)
Adam Cole (32)
Johnny Gargano (33)
LA Knight (38) ("million dollar champion")
Santos Escobar (37)
Ridge Holland (33)
Roderick Strong (38)
Austin Theory (24)
Unranked: Andre Chase (32), Carmelo Hayes (27), Duke Hudson (32), Grayson Waller (31), Guru Raaj (26?), Ikemen Jiro (28), Joe Gacy (33), Josh Briggs (?), Odyssey Jones (27), Trey Baxter (24)
We can begin to see NXT's age issue right here. All of the top male wrestlers are over 30, except Grimes and Theory, who are both playing lackeys right now. A lot of these guys are over 35, which isn't old, but doesn't fit the narrative of NXT being the future. Guys like Lumis, Kushida, Maverick, Knight, Escobar, and Strong are not here because they're being groomed for the main roster. They're here because they'd be misfits on the main roster.
I am not saying the over-35 crowd on NXT is going to be released. (The 2021 releases have been remarkably difficult to predict.) But if the reports are true, and WWE wants to refocus NXT on youth, then I would expect an "up or out" mentality, where the older talent is moved to Raw or Smackdown to sink or swim.
Most of the twenty-somethings here are new to the roster, slotted into the Breakout Tournament or backfilling the 205 Live mainstays who got cut. And even then, it seems only one of those newcomers (Baxter) is under 25. Chances are he'll be 30 before he gets a real push on the main roster. WWE's process makes it very hard to promote someone like Jungle Boy, which has been a huge opening for AEW.
Men's tag team division - babyfaces
Top Dolla (31) & Ashante Adonis (31)
Timothy Thatcher (38) & Tommaso Ciampa (36)
Men's tag team division - heels
Pete Dunne (27) & Oney Lorcan (35)
Raul Mendoza (29) & Joaquin Wilde (34)
Fabian Aichner (31) & Marcel Barthel (31)
Grizzled Young Veterans - Zack Gibson (30) & James Drake (28)
Aichner and Barthel are still listed on WWE.com as NXT UK guys, even though they've wrestled exclusively in Florida for over a year.
This division is a bit lopsided due to the champions, Wes Lee and Nash Carter, being out of action lately. In the meantime, the main storylines have been Isaiah Scott & Dolla & Adonis vs. Santos Escobar & Mendoza & Wilde and Thatcher & Ciampa vs. Lorcan & Dunne & Ridge Holland. It doesn't even seem like anyone's even pursuing the tag title, so maybe it's just as well that the champions have been absent.
Going back to the age thing, Ciampa, Thatcher, and Lorcan are all in that range where WWE may be re-evaluating what they're doing here, or at least what they're doing in the minor league. I know Ciampa talked a lot about preferring to spend his career in NXT, but a lot has gone down since then, and that goal may not be plausible except as a player/coach.
Women's singles division - babyfaces
Raquel Gonzalez (30) (NXT women's champion)
Ember Moon (32)
Sarray (25)
Women's singles division - heels
Dakota Kai (33)
Xia Li (33)
Unranked: Aliyah (26), Gigi Dolin (24), Jacy Jayne (?)
Women's tag team division - babyfaces
Kayden Carter (33) & Kacy Catanzaro (31)
Women's tag team division - heels
Franky Monet (37) & Jessi Kamea (32)
For a long time it was rare to see women wrestlers make it in WWE past age 30, so it's been good to see the company move away from that with women like Franky Monet and Mercedes Martinez. Then again, Martinez just got cut yesterday. Ever since WWE brought back John Laurinitis (who infamously scouted female talent by perusing lingerie catalogs), there's been a lot of concern that the "divas revolution"/"women's revolution" is getting rolled back. And it's telling that the NXT women who've been getting dark match tryouts have tended to be under 30.
No TV matches in 30 days
Boa (26?)
Brian Kendrick (42)
Candice LeRae (35)
Indi Hartwell (24)
Io Shirai (31) (NXT tag team champion)
Isaiah Scott (30) (NXT North American champion)
Nash Carter (27) (NXT men's tag team champion)
Samoa Joe (42)
Saurav (37)
Wes Lee (26) (NXT men's tag team champion)
Zoey Stark (27) (NXT women's tag team champion)
For whatever reason major NXT acts like LeRae & Hartwell, Lee & Carter, Scott, and Shirai & Stark have not been in the ring lately. It could just be a timing issue. Although I think it's striking that almost all of NXT's champions have not wrestled at all in the past 30 days.
Samoa Joe, of course, has been brought back to build up a big grudge match with NXT's top champion, Karrion Kross. Given that Kross has been called up to Raw, where there is no interest in presenting him as an unstoppable badass, it's almost guaranteed that a 42-year-old is going to win the NXT title from a 36-year-old who already couldn't last two minutes with 43-year-old Jeff Hardy. So if NXT is going to refocus on younger talent, I think we can expect some drastic, monumental changes, going all the way to the top.
It's baffling to me that Kendrick and Saurav have survived the past 18 months of cuts. Not that I want them to be cut, of course. But they're both never used and getting up there in years, which is a bad combination in this company. I keep thinking Kendrick must have become an agent or a producer or something, but I've never seen anyone report that.
Inactive
Danny Burch (39) (right shoulder - separation)
Nobody ever reported that Burch needed surgery for his shoulder, so I'm optimistic that he'll be back before too long. Of course, nowadays even being injured isn't enough to protect people from getting released.

NXT Takeover WarGames 2019 : Preview & Predictions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Team Ripley vs Team Baszler – WarGames Match
I really wish some of the teams tonight and tomorrow got to pick their own team names rather than these samey names.
I love that they’ve really switched up the teams here with people that haven’t been pushed solid for months in the main event, and instead have gone with other talented women that cover both this NXT and also NXT UK. Still gutted that Dakota Kai isn’t involved as she’s been SOOOOOO impressive since returning from injury and seems to want to be on tv in good matches EVERY week.
These team matches are what WarGames and Survivor Series should be all about, teams at war with participants facing each other that hardly ever touch but you want to see. Plus, these team matches allow the company to skip a month of booking title feuds and allow their selves more time to plan and let feuds flow better, truthfully these events should be an easy out for them for an easier night booking wise………though with this company we’ll still have them produce their own problems in trying to protect people that have to be eliminated (Survivor Series).
We really should be seeing Team Ripley win the bout to continue the steam towards her title match, I also do see Io doing the BIG move from the top of the cage onto everyone below – TEAM RIPLEY
Tumblr media
Team Ciampa vs The Undisputed Era – WarGames Match
With the injury to Johnny Gargano the face team has been moved around with Riddle facing Balor instead, so the big question now becomes who takes the final team spot? Do they rush back Gargano (no) then have him do an angle before making the cage so he doesn’t take part and the heels gain a bigger advantage than just having won the right to enter first. Outside of him I think we’re looking at Dunne, Dream or Kushida, with the problem being the last two are still injured but Im not sure of return dates. Ive gone with Dunne as I think he’ll win the triple threat match on the card and perhaps will enter this match too to gain some punishment on Cole before fighting him for the title tomorrow. None of them truthfully stand out as clear options so maybe we go the big surprise route and its Triple H? I still think that options on the table for the NXT team tomorrow so probably not tonight. Outside of those it really will be surprising, I doubt they debut Fantasma yet and especially not as a face, please be soon, and I love that its not that clear just don’t be disappointing. Is there still a chance its Johnny Mundo/Nitro/Impact?
TUE rule, that’s all. Adam Cole and the group have been pushed massively this past month or two so it really could do a lot for the face team to topple them here. Then it leads to more developments for tv weekly where all the team decide they should be the one to get a title shot after winning the match – TEAM CIAMPA
Tumblr media
Matt Riddle vs Finn Balor
This should be a great match and a really important bout for Finn Balor on his return, with him needing/wanting to really show he can still go after having more ‘WWE’ matches on the main roster for Raw and Smackdown. I see him having to win this even though it would be a great win for Riddle too, as long as they have a great match it hopefully will do a lot for both guys.
I still see Balor having another big impact on this weekends shows too - BALOR
Tumblr media
Damian Priest vs Pete Dunne vs Killian Dain – Winner VS Adam Cole At Survivor Series
Sadly, the match im least looking forward to on the show sadly, not that anyone’s awful in it but im not digging the feud so far between all three. I think Dunne should be higher up the card but can definitely see the project he has here in helping develop Priest for his future. Dain ALWAYS impresses me for the spots he puts together in big matches, not really clicking for me as a singles guy though just yet. Out of the three I only see one winner to face Adam Cole tomorrow and that’s Dunne, it would be very weird for them put either of the other heels against Cole when they will NEED a big match to deliver on the bigger show to impress what NXT can do - DUNNE
Tumblr media
Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs Angel Garza – Pre-Show Match
Two guys I adore to watch and two guys that have really impressed management in the short time they’ve been on the show, the match will be great no doubt and both guys NEED the win after taking recent losses – SWERVE
Should be a great show as normal for Takeovers, I think we may get an extra match or two on the pre-show or maybe an extra main card bout. Also look for them to have CM Punk in the crowd maybe??
Bye for now
Andy

25/10/19 Fact or Fiction
Statement #1: Monday Night RAW has been a terrible show for many years. FACT - Raw is up there with The Simpsons as the most zombified show on TV these days, which exists solely for the purpose of existing as it shuffles from one episode to another with nothing ever seeming to matter. There may be the occasional match or angle that does actually deliver, in much the same way there might be the occasional gag in The Simpsons which raises a titter, but most people are watching out of habit than anything else
Statement #2: AEW could beat RAW in head-to-head ratings on a regular basis. FICTION - While Dynamite has been beating NXT on a regular basis, which really seems to be upsetting the WWE Attack Squad who were gleefully predicting record low ratings for the first episode, that's not a good reason to put it up against Raw a month into its existence. The brand needs time to grow, because most of us remember what happened when TNA thought hype alone would be enough to pick up viewers when moving Impact to Monday nights...briefly
Statement #3: Sasha Banks has only been successful in wrestling because of her looks. FICTION - What "success" has Sasha actually had in WWE? Ever since she was moved onto the main roster she's been used as someone to sacrifice so their preferred performers get some heat while padding out their title histories, with Charlotte the most obvious example of this but hardly the only one, as similar can be said for Alexa Bliss and supposedly Nia Jax before injury ruled her out of WM so the TwoConics were given the women's tag belts before being sent out to die on a weekly basis.
Statement #4: You can think of a way to make a weekly 4-hour RAW work. FACT - Yes I can. My idea to make Raw work as a four-hour show can be summed up in a single word: DON'T.
Statement #5: The mainstream legitimacy the WWE so desperately covets is ultimately meaningless in 2019, and proven so by them actually getting it with the FOX TV deal. FICTION - SmackDown being on Fox does not mean that the years of WWE pining "Notice me senpai!!!" for any form of mainstream attention, acknowledgment or acceptance has finally paid off, far from it, all it does is demonstrate that WWE's main programming has a decent enough baseline of viewers to make it a relatively low-risk pick-up for any network in much the same way Big Brother managed to remain on the airwaves in the UK well over a decade after the show stopped getting any form of mainstream attention as a reliable baseline of viewers is enough for advertisers and, therefore, networks

NXT Takeover: New York Predictions
Takeover: New York is shaping up to be the biggest takeover that we have ever had. All of the belts are being defended, including the WWE UK Championship, and all the matches feel like a huge deal. There was a definite snag when Tommaso Ciampa got injured, but the show still seems like it is going to be great. Here are my predictions NXT Takeover: New York.
First up is the War Raiders against Ricochet and Aleister Black for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Simple story here, as Ricochet and Black began to team on the main roster, while still competing in NXT. Because of their success as a tag team on Raw and Smackdown, they entered the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic together, defeating Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, the reformed #DIY, and the Forgotten Sons to win the tournament. That gave them a championship match for the show, against the War Raiders. So, this seems like a pretty easy one to book, because Ricochet and Black are already on the main roster, so they shouldn’t win a title in NXT right now. Plus, they have a match on the main roster for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania, so they don’t need the NXT belts. So War Raiders will retain in what should be a fun match.
Next is Pete Dunne vs. WALTER for the WWE UK Championship. WALTER confronted Dunne on his first night in the company at Takeover Blackpool, beating down Joe Coffey in the process. He gathered up some wins in the coming weeks, before teaming with Dunne in a match against the Coffey Brothers. The two won, but there was a serious tension there. Dunne then requested to fight WALTER for the championship at Takeover New York, and the match was made. WALTER is definitely coming away with the win here. Dunne has held the title for so long, they need someone massive, both in size and popularity, to beat him for the belt. Short of the main roster, WALTER is the only one who fits that bill. It should be a great match, with a really historic finish given the length of Dunne’s title reign. This is the match that I am most looking forward to.
Into the women’s division, there is a fatal 4-way between the champion Shayna Baszler, Kairi Sane, Io Sharai and Bianca Belair. After Belair lost to Baszler at Takeover Phoenix due to the interference from Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, Belair teamed with Sane and Sharai in a 6-woman tag match. The faces won the match when Sharai pinned Baszler, causing tension between Sharai and Belair. The two had a number 1 contenders match, but Baszler interfered, beating both of them down as well as Sane. As a consequence of her actions, Baszler was put into a fatal 4-way against all of those women. This is a tough one to predict, but I think that Belair is going to take this away. Baszler has terrorized the locker room for a few months now, and while I don’t think that it is time for her to be called up just yet, I think we need a babyface champion. Io Sharai could also win, but I am picking Belair because of the Sky Pirates’ affiliation with the women’s tag division, belts that they definitely need to hold in the future. So, Belair is probably going to get the win here, but there are so many moving parts that I can’t say that 100%
For the NXT North American Championship, Velveteen Dream takes on Matt Riddle. This is a simple feud, where Riddle continued to express his want for a title match, with Dream refusing each time. Dream finally accepted his challenge after a series of wins, but became startled when mindgames did not work on Riddle. This is another tough one, but I am going to go with Dream retaining, because Riddle hasn’t been in the company all that long, and Dream really should be getting some wins on Takeovers. He has a pretty bad record at the event, so he deserves this win. Plus, Riddle is more of a main event guy. His first belt should be the NXT Championship, after he takes out a big heel.
And finally, in the main event, Johnny Gargano takes on Adam Cole in a two out of three falls match. The match was originally going to be Gargano against Ciampa (reportedly in a title vs. career, or career vs. career match) but Ciampa had to go in for neck surgery, meaning that the feud will be put on hold for a while. Adam Cole qualified for the match by beating Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle, Ricochet and Aleister Black in a fatal 5-way. This is a simple bullying storyline, with Cole telling Gargano that he isn’t good enough and never will be. Plus, the Undisputed Era will probably be at ringside, further stacking the deck. But that doesn’t matter, Johnny is the ultimate underdog, and this is his time. He has spent some time meandering away from his feud with Ciampa, and this was almost the perfect time for the story to come to an end. But, life got in the way, so we have this. Johnny should still win, and maybe him against Ciampa in a ladder match later down the line. Johnny deserves this win, and I cannot wait to mark out for it!
So, those are my predictions for the show tomorrow. Every match looks really great, but I am probably most excited for the WWE UK Championship match, because WALTER is awesome and it will be a historic moment to see Dunne unseated, plus a great match. However, I always love watching Matt Riddle, and the vacant NXT Championship does offer some intrigue in the main event. This could easily be the best Takeover show ever (although most of them have that potential) and I can’t wait for tomorrow!

How long do you think it will be before Toni Storm is on the main WWE roster?
I’m not sure what their plans are for anyone on the NXT UK roster. They don’t seem like they’re in a hurry to bring anyone from that brand to the main roster aside from occasional stuff like those “Worlds Collide” matchups during Mania weekend. She’s booked on a Stardom tour in June and July, so my most confident prediction is: not before June and July.

Wrestlemania XXXV Predictions.
Yeah, yeah, they don’t use the Roman numerals anymore. They don’t even use regular numerals. Humor me, it’s out of habit. I actually watched most of NXT Takeover last night, mostly live. I’m still not entirely sold on Blackochet or Matt Riddle, but the War Raiders and Velveteen Dream are the tittyballs and so were both matches. I fell asleep during the UK Championship match and intended to finish the show this morning, but then the results were spoiled for me by Cageside Seats in article headlines. Weak sauce, gentlemen. The weakest of sauces. Oh well, I’ll finish the show eventually. Anyway, with a 42 match card, the pre-show is liable to start any minute now so I better get these predictions up before all the poor souls in New Jersey (I’m sorry, I meant “New York”) start freezing their asses off. Let’s get prognosticating, shall we? Fabulous Moolah Memorial Women’s Battle Royale Totally not promoting human trafficking since 2018. Who won last year, Naomi? It’ll be tough to live up to those standards. I’ll go with Lacey Evans as the winner, because I’m sure that makes sense as a payoff to her coming out, doing nothing, turning around and walking to the back in Crazy Uncle Vinny’s mind. It’d be nice to give Asuka something after her seemingly random dethroning, but Lacey seems more predictably random. Cruiserweight Championship: Tony Nese vs. Buddy Murphy (c.) 205 Dead Crowd. I watched the Cruiserweight match from the Rumble pre-show the other day, and Buddy Murphy seems like a pretty good wrestleperson. Let’s say he retains, because he’s marrying Alexa Bliss and the company still loves her even though she’ll probably never wrestle again. Andre Roussimoff Memorial Battle Royale (ARMBaR) Just look what it did for Mojo Rawley! How can they make up for having Braun Strowman win the tag titles with a ten year old last year? Have him feud with two schmucks from Saturday Night Live so WWE can end up on a legitimate sports program the next morning! So either he wins, or after he eliminates the aforementioned schmucks he eliminates himself and chases them to the back leaving it open for (randomly points at list of entrants with eyes closed) Curtis Axel to win. Side thought: I think next year they should bring back Nicholas and rehire Matt Striker, putting them against the Bar, the Usos and the New Day. Striker can tutor the kid on the road, and putting them over the entire division will really solidify Nicholas’ legacy as an undefeated two-time tag team champion. Raw Tag Team Championships: Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins vs. the Revival (c.) The Battle of the WWE Random Name Generator Recipients! ...good lord, they’re actually giving the Edgeheads a Mania match? For the titles? I know the belts don’t matter and that maybe a dozen people give a rat’s ass about both teams combined, but still - Ryder and Hawkins’ whole shtick is that they never win. That ALWAYS gets over. So obviously they have to win here to get their “Wrestlemania Moment,” in their “home state” of “New York.” Smackdown Tag Team Championships: Nakamusev vs. the Bar vs. Blackochet vs. the Usos (c.) Aren’t I so witty with my portmanteau tag team names? I’m glad Wikipedia exists to not only tell me all 107 matches, but to remind me that yes, the Usos are tag champs again. What with them losing in Brooklyn, I expect Black and Ricochet to win the titles to start off their big show (no, not that one) debut with a bang and to finally tie them to Smackdown instead of Raw. they’ll have better matches on that show anyway. Or the Usos retain because they’re related to the Rock, who cares. Shane McMahon vs. the Miz Because Super Shane needs to get his annual hyperventilating stunt show in. God bless the Miz, he may be the best company man since John Cena for doing whatever stupid shit they come up with for him. Case in point: this fucking match. Does anyone besides Shane or Vince give two shits about this? Logic says the Miz wins because he’s (somehow) the babyface, so I’ll say Shane wins and the Miz’s dad hugs him afterwards because even though his son main evented Wrestlemania and defeated John Cena (there he is again) and got married to a smokin’ hot model and had a kid, NOW he’s finally proud of him because he put up a valiant effort against the 50 year old son of the owner of the company. Women’s Tag Team Championships: the IIconics vs. Nia Jax and Tamina vs. Beth Phoenix and Natalya vs. the Boss n’ Hug Connection (c.) Who’s got the worse name, the Australians or the champions? I guess Trish and Lita said no, so they dusted Beth Phoenix off and pretend she’s important enough to justify her Hall of Fame induction. Nia and Tamina suck, Billie and Peyton don’t matter, Beth won’t be around the next day and I can’t see them changing the titles so soon after creating them. Bayley and Sasha retain. Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin John Cena Oh, shut up. You know it’s going to happen. Cena beats up Corbin on the way to the ring, spouts some jargon about hustling respect loyally, he drags Angle through three minutes of suck hoping he doesn’t accidentally kill him, somebody wins and they both go away. (Flips a coin) Cena wins, LOL. AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton Fighting because reasons! Um... let’s say AJ wins, because Orton is a made man and they wanna thank AJ for not leaving for All Elite Wrestling (what a terrible name). Christ, how many pointless matches could they trim to make this a show of reasonable length? Not everybody needs a Wrestlemania payday... do those even exist anymore with the Network? United States Championship: Rey Mysterio vs. Samoa Joe (c.) I’ve got nothing sarcastic to say about this match, I’m actually looking forward to it somewhat. Rey Mysterio can still go, and although people say Joe has lost a step since coming to WWE I’m actually a bigger fan of him now than ever. I think he’s benefited a lot from having to tone it down and only do two or three big spots in matches as opposed to a billion, although whether that’s due to the restrictions of the “WWE Style” or age/injuries is up for debate (I felt the same about Cesaro slowing it down going from Ring of Honor to WWE). Rey can survive a loss here and I think they wanna get as much out of Joe while they still can, so he retains. WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston vs. the New Daniel Bryan (c.) Remember when the “World” title wasn’t likely to be in the middle of the show? As much as I’d hate to see the Hempyweight Championship belt go (and no matter what it’ll eventually have to), I think the crowd would riot if Kofi didn’t win. So I reckon Kofi wins, then Big E. and Xavier turn on him right afterwards to piss the crowd off right after throwing them a bone. Y’know what? I think it would be interesting to see a riot at a wrestling show. Fans have threatened it with signs ever since Cena vs. Van Dam, but we’ve never actually seen one. It’d certainly be a “Wrestlemania Moment.” Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre Yay, Roman’s back! And he’s not in the main event again! Yet! I’m as glad as anyone that Reigns seems to have beaten leukemia, but the entire feud with Drew seems like something they threw together at the last minute because they didn’t expect him to come back so soon. I can never tell if they’re behind Drew or not, they seem to change their minds every other week. Roman wins, obviously, then probably goes right back into the Universal title picture. Triple H vs. Batista The epic final battle between Drax the Destroyer and whatever Triple H’s character was called in Blade 3. I’m interested in this match due to sheer sideshow curiosity. Big Dave hasn’t wrestled in however long, and last time Hunter wrestled he ripped a titty off his chest in the beginning of the match. I have enough faith that’ll it be something watchable at least, Triple H’s match with Angle and Rousey was good last year. Batista wins and rides off into the sunset, and Trips “retires” for about a year. Let’s give it a year and a half if we’re being generous. Universal Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar (c.) Prediction for number of German suplexes: 11. Now this one is a sticky wicket. On the one hand, it’d be nice to have the Rumble winner, y’know, win, and have someone with the belt who’ll be around every week. On the other hand, I’m sure Vince is already salivating over the thought of Roman conquering the unstoppable once every four months onslaught of Brock Lesnar. On the THIRD hand, they did make a t-shirt for Rollins that says “Beastslayer” which would be completely pointless to peddle at shows if he lost. I’ll go out on a limb and pick Lesnar, but whoever wins is getting Roman as a challenger  Intercontinental Championship: Finn Balor vs. Bobby Lashley (c.) Can we get this show over with already? I’m already bored just writing about it. The Demon wins back the title that he just lost for no reason a few weeks ago, Lio Rush probably gets beat up and the crowd continues to go mild for Bobby Lashley. Next. Women’s Championship, winner takes all: Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair (c., Smackdown) vs. Ronda Rousey (c., Raw) Becky. Becky, Becky, Becky. Wait, I have to say something other than that about the match? The build for this has been all over the place. Becky taps to Asuka at the Rumble, then takes Lana’s spot to win the Rumble match itself. Becky’s suspended, but she’s on every show anyway. Then she’s not suspended, she and Ronda break the fourth wall on Twitter, Charlotte replaces Becky, then she wins the Smackdown belt from Asuka and it’s a triple threat, and my God I think I’ve gone cross eyed. Who wins will really depend on where they place this match on the card. I know they’ve said it’ll be the “main event,” and if it truly goes on last then they’d be insane not to give it to Becky. I’ve been trying to reasonably predict the order in which the matches will take place. BUT... we all know WWE has been saying double main event, triple main event, whatever for years. If it DOESN’T go on last, it’s probably gonna be Charlotte. She’s already beaten Trish’s record for number of Women’s title reigns, and lord knows WWE wants to make her seem like the best at everything due to her name. I’ll (perhaps foolishly) put all my chips on Becky, but won’t be surprised in the least if it’s Charlotte. Oh yeah, Ronda’s in the match too. How ‘bout that. *whew* So yeah, sixteen matches on what’s liable to be a seven hour show. I’m likely to watch it in spurts, because A) my TV is always at the risk of being hijacked by a six year old, and 2) I’m going to fall asleep if I try to watch it all in one shot. I won’t be drinking, because I’d rather fall asleep due to boredom rather than alcohol consumption this year. I almost don’t want the women’s match to go last, because the crowd will be fucking exhausted by then. Of the sixteen matches, I’m confident about half will be good. So there’s that. We’ll have a couple overblown entrances, some forced “Wrestlemania Moments,” the possibility for an entertaining car wreck or two, maybe an Undertaker appearance. This is the first year though where I’m sort of dreading the Grandest Stage of the Showcase of the Immortally Ultimate Thrill Ride in twenty years of fandom, and that’s pretty disheartening. That Takeover sure was something though, wasn’t it?

             WWE Evolution: Review
                                           Sunday 28th October,
from the Nassau Colliseum in Uniondale,NY
Trish Stratus&Lita vs Mickie James and Alexa:[***]
We had no pre-show matches for Evolution (thank god i would say) and this match should have featured Alexa Bliss but the Goddess got injuried in a live event and missed the event so WWE replaced her with Alicia Fox. The match was better than i expected because at the Rumble, Lita looked really bad and wasn’t expecting much from this, but both HOFs did their best and Mickie James shines and honestly i believe she is better then when she was in her prime. Fox was ok even tho had a massive botch. The match itself was the standard heel vs face tag team with Bliss trying to help her friends. With this match going on the first 30 minutes of the show (the ones free on twitter), Lita and Trish win was really predictable (and right) and even more when they announced that Bliss was out of the contest. Crowd was on fire during the match
Winners: Trish Stratus and Lita.
Women’s battle royal for a future title match: [**¾]
It was solid but also the worst match of the night but it didn’t turned out as bad as i thought, even tho i hated some eliminations, like the Iiconic one at the beginning to have a commedy moment, or like the winner of the first ever Women rumble got eliminated like nothing by Ember Moon.  Thanks WWE. But at the same time, if your worst match of the event is just solid, it’s not a bad thing at all. The crowd loved everyone and the match and Nia got the win, as she will be an easy challenger for Ronda and it also set a rematch between the two since their match at MITB ended by DQ when Bliss cashed in her briefcase.
Winner: Nia Jax
Mae Young Classic Final: Io Shirai vs Toni Storm:[****]
Let’s start with the negative: why the hell this match only went 10 minutes? So rant mode off, but this match was very very good even tho it last just 10 minutes. It had drama, storytelling, good wrestling and also Storm is the only person in the tournament who didn’t got caught by Io’s moonsault, so in some way, they keep the magic and the effectivness around the move. Storm won and as i said in the reivew, she was my #1 pick to win the tournament and i’m so happy for her, because she deserved it the final last year and she deserved to win this year like shirai should, but for Io i guess they have already some solid plans in NXT, while Storm will be involved more with the UK brand rather then the main NXT one. Storm also defeated to win the tournament Jinny, Matsumoto, Yim and Shirai. Good lord, that’s impressive. This match was a good way to close a great tournament, wish it went longer, but it did justice to the whole tournament (full tournament review out later in the week/s as i need more time for it) PS: Storm entered with her MYC 2017 and NXT UK theme, after the bell they played her MYC 2018 theme. That’s so weird but fun (and geeky for a theme song nerd like me)
Winner of the MYC 2018: Toni Storm
Riott Squad vs Natalya, Sasha Banks and Bayley:[***¼]
Let’s start with another rand mode time: why the hell this match went longer than the MYC Final? I really really don’t get it, because this match at time felt a bit boring because they went too long and Shirai-Storm felt great but so short, but at least the six woman tag was a good match, topped my expactations and showed us that Liv can actually wrestle, since it was basically her best match so far in WWE. It started too slow but got much better in the final stretch and played out good, giving the babyface a great moment, like Sasha tributing Eddie. I still don’t like the Riott Squad, because probably they would be better by themselves rather than as a team, because they always make them lose as a team while in singles match they can pull it off. If their strenght is in the number, why the hell they can’t win a 3 vs 3?
Winner: Sasha Banks, Bayley and Natalya
NXT Womens Championship: Kairi Sane vs Shayna Baszler:[****]
Another rant mode time: not a fan at all of Kairi’s new theme. Just when i got used to her second theme, they change it. Usual WWE. Theme song rant aside, this match was really good, much better then their previous encounters. They finally nailed the match, even tho i wished we got a clean finish tho. The idea of having the other 2 4HW was great, they will be great in NXT, but this match was going really well and then a non clean finish took something away for me. The title change is fine because it was unexpected and came well, but still the interferences were a bit sloopy and could have been better or even non existent. Now, i guess we might get a team battle even with the ladies and this got me thinking: are we getting a womens war games too at Takeover? It would be interesting for sure.  But before i jump to the next match, there is still one thing for me to say: stop thinking Shayna is just Rousey’s best friend: she is a really good wrestler and a great heel, because she is legit someone i would boo at a show even tho i like her and criticising her just because ronda is her best friend, while she worked hard in the indies too to get here, is just wrong.
Winner AND NEW NXT Womens champion: Shayna Baszler
Last Woman Standing for the SD Womens Title: Charlotte vs Becky Lynch:[****½]
No rant mode this time, but let’s say that it was the best match of the night. And i usually don’t even like Last Man/woman Standing match, but with the right booking they can be really good. This one was the one i was hoping for, yes not a perfect match, but really really good with drama, storytelling, it made the crowd involved even tho on commentary tried everything to get people behind Charlotte, but it was the hard fought battle that this feud really needed. A great feud which needed a great ending (for the moment). Even tho i wished the babyface/heel role would switch, this feud has been superb and probably gave us the best Becky Lynch so far in WWE, while charlotte really doesn’t fit well as a babyface cause she is a great heel, but she never fails to look good. Speaking of the match, we had violence, because the tables spots and chair spot were nasty and even Becky jumping from the ladder was risky. It was perfect on this, while not on the way the ref handled it. Becky won with a powerbomb on the table and probably will face Ronda rousey at Survivor Series in a champion vs champion, if they are planning the event as Raw vs SD Live again like last year. MOTY? Maybe not, because i still think NXT delivered it, but these two women had the best match and feud in the main roster so far. Kudos to both of them…and Becky good luck with Ronda.
Winner AND STILL SD Womens Champion: Becky Lynch
Raw Womens Championship: Ronda Rousey vs Nikki Bella:[***]
Some people are trashing the whole show just because of this match. Personally i wouldn’t call them fans but simply stupid, because it’s stupid to trash an event for just a match, which even wasn’t that bad. I didn’t liked it, but it could have been a lot worse. Not a fan of how they are booking Ronda matches at the moment, because if they cant have her squash the whole division, they shouldn’t have her going through a beating for like ¾ of the match and then win. She is a former ufc champions, she should destroy someone like Nikki who doesn’t even wrestle regulary since she got injuried. Ronda won and everyone happy like the happy ending for the event. Speaking of her challenger, i think this Nikki, used like a veteran, could be helpful in the division, only if she gets the get her opponent over and not get another title shot for basically being a Bella
Winner AND STILL Raw Womens Champion: Ronda Rousey
Overall: I wasn’t really expecting Evolution to be this good, i hoped it could be this, i feared it could have been worse but it really surprised me. It had a takeover vibe and it was great because it was really different. Even the crowd felt like a NXT crowd where they are hot for thw whole show and don’t slowly die because the events are too long. Honestly i think an yearly event like this would be awesome. Yes there are still some stuff that wasn’t good, but for once i really enjoyed a WWE main roster PPV from the start to the bottom and that’s what matters the most to me. Kudos to everyone involved and keep proving the people, who trashed this event because it was all womens only, that they are just wrong. [7.75]
