You know how people headcanoned that when Mikey from Rise of the TMNT used magic to rip open time itself/a portal to another dimension he developed an essential tremor?
Yeah, that but put it on Lloyd who discovered his Oni self earlier than his Golden Powers so he develops a sort of essential tremor too.

Few people remember that our darkest of monsters were human too. Some were broken in some way. Some thought that they were doing the right thing. Some just lost too much to give a damn anymore. Of course their actions are to be condemned. But for some, there is understanding that can be gleaned. Is there any justification for Garmadon's actions? What is the purpose in power? Why do need all this?
Ultimately that is true. Most villains are actually just broken people who society didn’t bother to care for and just let them go through a broken system. World domination to them actually makes sense in the terms of fixing said system themselves and hoping no one else would ever feel what they felt.
Other times it’s a villain losing someone and the villain just decides to watch the world tear apart from the inside out. They see how awful people are and watched as no one cared about that someone they loved dearly and now the villain wants them to suffer just as much as they did.
For Garmadon though? I came up with a headcanon long ago with a friend of mine on DA and proceeded to add on to it.
We don’t know too much but we do know that Garmadon treasured Lloyd more than anything in the world, loved him more than life itself. So when he saw Lloyd gone and he couldn’t even see his wife in the distance, he broke down. So I told my friend that maybe Garmadon thought if the world was as dark as him, he’d find Lloyd because that’s his little light of his life.
After Garmadon had been cured, he always thought the happy ending he had before him was just a dream. He would’ve been used to that idea since back in his corrupted days, he dreams about the life of being with his wife and kid but then he’d wake up and be all alone. So the idea that he could one day wake up again and not see his wife next to him scared him.
My AU Garm would suggest that his Oni half was thinking something wasn’t right with Lloyd and it wanted to get rid of him (and knowing Oni mythology doesn’t help his case any) which lead to Koko running away from him with Lloyd while Garm was fighting on the inside. When he came to, he mourned at them leaving and basically shut down. The venom took advantage of that negative state of mind and he proceeded with the idea of taking the weapons as his.
We could go into how if Garmadon took over the first time around perhaps Ninjago wouldn’t have to worry about being attacked as often because one, he may have not been the favored son, but he is still the son of their creator. We saw how much power he had being manipulated into gaining it, imagine if he had free will and his human mind in tact. Two, who’s going to go up against an Oni-Dragon hybrid who’d rather seek his family’s safety over vengeance, domination, or just about anything else?
And he probably would’ve had allies, including but not limited to the Serpentine, Skulkin, Time Twins (if he manages to get on Krux’s good side first), Elemental Masters, the Royal Family, etc. Basically anyone else except for Chen and Clouse, because Chen screwed everyone over in the end and he wouldnt look for a repeat and Clouse wasn’t looking to change his mind any time soon.
I don’t know too much about Movie Garmadon as much as I used to admittedly but I think he got the whole four arms thing before he decided to be a “villain” which suggests that when everyone, his friends, acquaintances, strangers, saw how he looked different, he got treated different. He was so used to the whole “monster” title that he decided to become the monster everyone thought him to be... Koko just happened to not change him, but to come to an understanding him just as much he did to her. @dinogaby Can you confirm this headcanon for me?

Day 5: Cursed of @birdiiielle Angst Challenge
He could still feel the venom coursing through him, almost bursting his veins up while tempting his Oni side out. He wanted to win this one oh so terribly but the Oni was becoming all too powerful by the day. He felt his tears burn down his cheeks like acidic fire while he felt the first of the two horns protrude out of his skull.

Part two of this
“If I recover / Will you take me back again? / I’m just another / Trying hard to fit right in / But the photographs remind me of who I used to be / If only I could go back when I / I was me”
@dinogaby I gave him a happier ending but at the cost of angst.
Garm hated his horns so much that he ended up pulling them right off. (Hence the blood)
The poor Oni reaches and Koko is the first to reach back because she knows this man is no monster.
“Seems you picked a new favorite.. Does she know?” Since I have Koko exist in the Show AU and Garmadon meets her just after he met up with the Alliance, that means the letter to Misako still happened and god I can imagine the guilt that’s eating at Garmadon from the inside out.
Permanent Oni Garm sometimes loses himself so he has photographs of his family.
Koko left Garmadon on his demand because he felt his Oni side becoming more dangerous and he never wanted to come close to hurting his loved ones again. It still hurt him when she walked out, leaving the necklace (which he gifted to her) behind. (Might change the circumstance)
A part of his ring finger is much lighter than the rest because even after Koko left, he kept that ring on. It killed him inside when the lightning that struck him made that ring disintegrate.
Teen Garm had Oni facial marks beginning to show while his brother was going to get that dragon beard.
Baby Lloyd and Garmadad!
Older Oni Garmadon and his lovely wife.

Ninjago: Nightmare
(For @ninjago-angst-week Have some Garmangst. Ya’ll need it.)
It wasn’t the first time he had a nightmare. He’s always had them ever since he was a child. He was rather thankful that they never came true. He never wanted to inflict his nightmares on his loved ones. Until that one day happened. The day the Devourer bit him. The nightmares worsened then.
But none of them were like this one. Comparing them to this one, he would have gladly went through the other ones. If he combined his last nightmares, he would never be able to make them match up to this one.
Other ones were about his father’s death when he saved them from something terrible, him leaving his brother to go with his Master, Chen succeeding in his plan, the Time Twins having no mercy on him and his brother, his wife leaving him with their beloved child while their son reached and cried for him. Thankfully some didn’t come true, but this one was different. It may not have came true but it still terrified him.
It was about his son. He stood before him and he was seriously injured from the last attack. The green ninja looked so angry. He watched his son’s skin turn pale and swore he saw his eyes flicker red while the energy was building up in his hands. He felt terror grip his heart. His son was turning out like him. He never wanted that. Never in his life, not even when he wanted to take his son away from the Ninja.
Energy left his hands and at first he thought it was over, but no, it wasn’t. Garmadon used his mech to protect him from anymore hits. Instead he saw the energy blasting through the metal and he collapsed nearby. He looked up and saw red eyes glowing. His son’s face looked too much like his and it scared him. There was no mercy, only hatred.
Lloyd pinned the four-armed warlord and raised a glowing fist over his head. He screamed in terror and covered his head as the fist came flying down.
He awoke the next moment and gripped tightly on the dark sheets. His heart was pounding against his chest as if it wanted to jump out. His hand balled up into a fist on his chest, pulling at the clothing, like he was hoping it would keep his heart from escaping. His eyes darted around and he saw his wife stirring next to him.
Just a nightmare. He thought. It was just a nightmare. This one was still far worse than anything he’s ever faced. Him facing the merciless shell of his son who was raging at him and attacking him.
While that event of him being a warlord passed and he reformed himself into a master for the next generation, he still couldn’t shake the thought of that nightmare coming true.
That thought terrified him.
He would never be ready to face his dear child in battle again.
He hoped that nightmare would never come true.
