Natsuki Is So Much More Than His Ditzy Behavior: Part 3

Ah, yes. The October chapter in Repeat/Repeat LOVE. (The one where the MC encounters You-Know-Who for the first time.) But before that scene happens, we encounter yet another scene in which we learn that Natsuki was a depressed b before he met MC-chan.

Note: The default name 七海春歌 (Nanami Haruka) will be used for the main character. I transcribed the Japanese manually from the Switch port, but I'm only human. All translations are my own.

学園祭当日。 午前中はクラスの出し物のお手伝いをして午後はまるまる自由時間になりました。 【四ノ宮那月】:「やっぱり学園祭は楽しいですねぇ。去年は僕、ミュージカルをやったんですよぉ」 あ……。そうか……。 四ノ宮さんは2コ上だから、去年も高校生なんだ……。 わたしは中学校を卒業してすぐ、この学園に入ったけど四ノ宮さんは、前に通っていた学校を辞めて早乙女学園に移ったんだよね。 【七海春歌】:「前の学校を辞めてこっちに来る前、寂しくなったですか？」 【四ノ宮那月】:「前の学校は……先生のすすめもあって、その……一芸で……音楽科のある学校へ入れてもらったんです」 【四ノ宮那月】:「でも…………僕はみんなと一緒には弾けなかった」 【四ノ宮那月】:「みんなプロを目指していて、希望があってキラキラしていた。でも、僕には絶望しかなかった」 【七海春歌】:「でも、四ノ宮さんの演奏とってもとっても素敵でした」 あのヴィオラの音色。 クラシックに詳しくないわたしが聴いても、そのすごさがわかるくらいずば抜けていた。 【四ノ宮那月】:「ありがとう……。大人の人たちも、今のあなたみたいに僕の演奏を褒めてくれました。」 【四ノ宮那月】:「でも、僕は『音』を『楽しむ』ことができなかった」 【四ノ宮那月】:「『音楽』を極めること、それがどんなに厳しく険しい道なのか一度見えてしまったらもう……。怖くて……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「みんなと同じようには弾けなくて……。先生には普通科へ転入をすすめられました。でも……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「未練……なのでしょうね。音楽と切り離された生活をするのも僕には耐えがたかったんです」 【四ノ宮那月】:「だから、ここを選んだ。ここなら、楽しく音楽ができるんじゃないかって」 【四ノ宮那月】:「テレビの中のアイドルさん達は本当に楽しそうに歌を歌っていて、ああ……、いいなって」 【四ノ宮那月】:「今まで僕が生きてきたクラシックの世界とは違って、すごく自由で、型にはまったくなくて、それから……笑顔が輝いていて」 【四ノ宮那月】:「僕もこんな風になれたらいいなって……。自分のペースで、自分の好きなように音楽を奏でられたらと……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「アイドルなら楽しいことがいっぱいあるに違いない……なんて……勝手に期待して。本当に馬鹿みたいですよね」

The day of the school festival. We helped with the class's program in the morning, so we were free the whole afternoon. Shinomiya Natsuki: School festivals are just so fun. You know, I did a musical last year. Oh... Right... Shinomiya-san is two years older than me, so he was in high school last year too... I enrolled in Saotome Gakuen straight out of middle school, but Shinomiya-san transferred here from the high school he went to before. Nanami Haruka: Were you lonely when you quit your old school to come here? Natsuki: The school I went to... My teachers recommended me to attend there. It was... a school for the arts... So I was enrolled in the music department. Natsuki: But...... I just couldn't play next to everyone else. Natsuki: Everyone was aiming to become pro musicians, and they were all glimmering with hope. But all I had was despair. Haruka: But you play so, so wonderfully. The sound of his viola. Even I — not knowing much about classical music — could tell the way he played was astounding, a cut above the rest. Natsuki: Thanks... The adults around me were like you, too, when they praised my performance. Natsuki: But I couldn't enjoy the sounds I made. Natsuki: Once you find out just how treacherous the path to master "music" is, it's all... So terrifying... Natsuki: I couldn't play like everyone else did... So my teachers told me to transfer to the general studies department. But then... Natsuki: I guess... I couldn't just give it up. I couldn't imagine a life in which I'd abandoned music. Natsuki: That was why I chose to enroll here. I thought maybe I could enjoy music again if I studied here. Natsuki: The idols on TV all had so much fun while singing. I thought... it'd be nice. Natsuki: It was so different from the classical world I'd been in. It was so free, there was no specific form, and... everyone glowed when they smiled. Natsuki: I thought it'd be nice if I could become like that... If only I could play music the way I want to, at my own pace. Natsuki: I was hoping I'd have loads of fun if I became an idol... That was stupid of me, huh?

Natsuki using phrases like 僕には絶望しかなかった ("all I had was despair") and 本当に馬鹿みたい ("that was stupid of me") really hit home the worthlessness he felt in the days before he encountered MC-chan.

故事内容大概是Patrick来到圣公会主学堂小学组建了少儿知识问答小组，最后参加知识问答比赛的故事！

小朋友们人设介绍如下↓

罗莎蒙德·福尔摩斯：福华女儿，名字沿用原剧。头发是黑色大波浪长发，瞳色是湛蓝色。是小队里唯一的女孩子。小天才，目测和老夏一样聪明。取向未知（我还没想好），常年被班上两个男生骚扰。有一个叫哈米什的金发绿眼亲弟弟，弟弟作为配角出场（大概）。每天放学后会被亲爹和亲弟接走。

肯尼斯·斯特兰奇：奇玫儿子，名字沿用玫瑰中间名。灰发，喜欢把头发梳成法师的样子。瞳色是和魔法蝴蝶一样的那种蓝色（太文盲了，不会形容）。小队里唯一会魔法的，智商挺高但是没罗莎高。取向异性，常年变法术骚扰罗莎。每天放学后会被亲爹或老王直接画圈圈从人堆里拖走。

菲利普·辛格：KA儿子，名字沿用亚瑟中间名（原著中亚瑟全名：ArthurPhilip Dent）。黑发，乱。黑眼睛。是全队发育最快的，比最矮的克里斯高了一个半头。体能很好，体育拿了满分后老师甚至想给他再加五十分，对机械发明有很高的天赋，热衷于喝茶。取向未知。每天放学后亲爹和亲妈会开飞船来接走。

克里斯托弗·吉勒姆：GD儿子，名字沿用MF中间名和模仿游戏里图灵的初恋。金发妹妹头，眼睛颜色是灰蓝。脾气不怎么好，有洁癖，爱笑。是全队最矮的存在，但是大家都希望他将来会拔高个。学校科目里头最擅长文科，但是大家不知道的是他在家最喜欢玩的是枪械，同时为了避免武器被父母发现然后挨揍，练就了一身反侦察的好本事。取向未知。每天放学后由法比安接走。

高尔登·辛宁：龙哈比儿子，名字沿用“Smaug the Golden”里的Golden。闪瞎眼的红头发和红眼睛。家里很有钱，所以每天的炫富也不算炫富。成绩不太好，但是家里有钱，所以（在威逼利诱了老师以后）还是进了小队。不炫富的时候喜欢看奇幻小说并且坚信自己前世是条龙。取向异性，常年通过炫富和话痨骚扰罗莎。每天放学后都会由司机接走，如果出现了什么情况则由亲爹亲自来接走。

The Freedom of Expression, radio version - Ep 44, August 2016 - Announcement of another live special, Pokemon Go, Palm reading/Palmistry.

Kaoru starts by saying that the details of the next 'special live broadcast' have finally been decided. On August 9th at 1am, they will do a two hour broadcast. (Only one this time, unlike in December when they did two). The title of the show will be, 'The Freedom of Expression Special - The best of the first half of 2016. Back stories from the other side of the world'. 'The other side of the world' referring to Dobashi in Brazil. All of the Tokyo Sports team will appear on it, including Kami. He has never missed a days' work but he should be on his summer vacation so it'll be ok. They will talk about some of the best stories of the year so far, and Kaoru invites the listeners to send in any of thier favourite news stories too. He had intended to play some more new jingle entries on today's show, but says he will play them during the live special instead, and finish the campaign there for now. He says he will be much more generous with handing out stickers this time, as he has only handed out about 5 since he first made them.

Next Kaoru mentions that Utafumi has been released at long last, about 3 days ago. Before the release date he was only able to play the promotional edit version, but now that the release date has passed, he is finally able to play the full version, so he goes ahead and plays it.

Next, Tasai joins them for the Tokyo Sports corner. Tasai isn't sure whether they should allow Hiranabe on the upcoming live broadcast. The theme of his fist topic is the game Pokemon Go, which was experiencing a world wide boom at the time. Tasai and Joe ask Kaoru whether he plays Pokemon Go. Kaoru says he does play it, but is not mad about it. He's caught about 100 pokemon so far. Joe does not play, and asks Kaoru what exactly it is that you do in Pokemon Go. Kaoru laughs and replies that he doesn't even know. Tasai then explains the concept of the game to Joe. He then goes on to say that despite its world popularity and massive gain for Nintendo, it has brought with it some problems. For example, there was a case in Miyagi prefecture where two Chinese people trespassed onto private land playing it, and there have been various cases nationwide of pokemon appearing inside nuclear power plants. Joe says misuse of the game cannot be ruled out. For example, it could be used to boost crowds at demos if many people gathered to collect pokemon. If you knew how to use it skillfully you might be able to manipulate peoples' movements. Kaoru realises the political implications of this if you could secretly get a lot of people to gather in a specific place, at a specific time. Tasai also adds that China and Russia are both worried about the app, because they fear the images caught on the app might reveal military secrets if they are shared overseas. He also doesn't like the way salarymen in Japan hold thier phones up at odd angles in the street while playing this game. Its a bit scary. He doesn't want to end up getting caught in thier images. Kaoru mentions a collab bewteen Pokemon Go and First of the North Star, and Tasai says it would be pretty bad if a Kenshiro appeared outside your house and a crowd gathered to catch it. He thinks we need to be careful with this type of thing. Joe suggests the idea of 'Hiranabe Go', but realises that no-one is likely to download it.

Kaoru plays his next record, which is Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time'. He played this record because it reminds him of an anime he used to watch as a kid. The anime Midoriyama kōkō/緑山高校 had this song as the ending theme for its summer vacation broadcasts, which were aired in Kansai every day from Mon-Fri during the school summer vacation. Kaoru loved watching it. Joe has no idea what this is, so Kaoru explains its a baseball themed anime. He admits that he recently introduced it on his blog, so this is actually a bit of self promo for his blog.

Tasai's next topic is about the comedian Shimada Shūhei, who also happens to be a palm reader. At a recent event, Shimada had been asked by reporters about the kinds of palms he's read up to now. He answered that when he read the palm of the comedian Ijiri Okada, who is known for playing an erotic/pervy character (エロキャラ), he discovered that he had no 'erotic line/エロ線'(Girdle of Venus in English). In truth, playing this character is strictly work for Ijiri, he takes it very seriously as business. Shimada also had some interesting info about the life line (生命線) and Joe asks all the listeners to take a look at thier own life lines while Tasai explains. Apparently, if you have an extra line on the inside of your life line, you have extra strong vitality. Looking at his own hand, Kaoru says he does have an extra line. Joe does not. This is apparently quite a rare feature, and Shimada has only seen two celebrities who have it. One is TV star Kuroyanagi Tetsuko, the other is rakugo performer Utamaru Katsura. Both are pretty old, but still alive during this shows broadcast (Tasai hopes, with nervous laughter). Tasai then makes the others guess one more public person who has extra life lines. Joe guesses Hiranabe. He may have the vitality of a cockroach, but no, its not Hiranabe, says Tasai. After a few clues they get the answer of female wrestler Yoshida Saori. Yoshida actually has three extra life lines, making four in total.

Joe asks Kaoru if he's ever had his palm read. Kaoru says he has. He was told that his fate was to become wealthy. Back when he first moved to Tokyo 20 odd years ago, he went to visit a shrine for New Years prayer with a few people from the offce, including his boss (*Dynamite Tommy?*) and there was a palm reading stall at the shrine. So they decided to give it a go. The palm reader said straight away, 'Ah, you will be wealthy'. Kaoru says he is not wealthy...laughs from the others.

To finish, Kaoru repeats the news that a summer live special will be held on August 9th, he is a little nervous about broadcasting live again. He asks listeners to send in news or jingles for the live broadcast, then plugs his tour, and new single.

Tsubasa Yamaguchi's Blue Period Manga Gets Stage Play Adaptation in Spring 2022

    In addition to the ongoing TV anime, a stage play adaption of Tsubasa Yamaguchi's coming-of-age manga Blue Period is set to be performed at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo from March 25 to April 3, 2022, under the title Blue Period The Stage. Pre-sales of tickets will be accepted from November 25 to December 6, then general sales will begin on February 12, 2022.

  The manga author has posted her comments on the play's official website: "In the 'raw art' of the stage, which is different from manga, I wondered how the very simple work of drawing pictures, the expression of the characters and the story would be expressed on the large stage. I'm looking forward to seeing what the view from the audience seats will be like."

  Kaori Miura, best known for her writing/directorial works for the Saiyuki stage play series, serves as the director on a script by Masafumi Hata. And 23-year-old Kurumu Okamiya (Tsurumaru Kuninaga in the Touken Ranbu musicals) is cast as the protagonist Yatora Yaguchi, a high school student aiming to attend Tokyo University of the Arts, the most difficult art university in Japan.

  Okamiya says, "When I read the original manga, I was strongly moved by Yatora, who confronts setbacks and big obstacles with his strong conviction. The many words scattered throughout the story also pierced my heart. I'm looking forward to weaving this story with my wonderful co-stars and the staff! I will dye it blue with heat. Please support us!"

YYH Official Characters Book: Togashi’s comments about Itsuki, Dr. Kamiya, Mitarai, Hagiri, Amanuma and Makihara.

Itsuki - “Gate Keeper”: has the ability to open a dimensional door. He is a lower B-class youkai called "Yaminade", but can move into the subspace in an event of emergency in addition to have a quite high defense. After being almost defeated by Sensui, they started *dating. It seems he was going out with other humans before meeting Sensui.

*T/N: the verb “tsukiai” (つきあい) is generally used when you’re going out on a date with someone, but the meaning can change according to the context. For example: “to accompany somebody” without any romantic involvement. But, as we don’t have enough context here, I think the author wanted to leave their relationship open to interpretation.

Minoru Kamiya -  “Doctor”: can make humans sick within his territory’s area using a virus created with "nen”. He also has a knifehand strike (tegatana) like a sharp scalpel. He’s an excellent surgeon but has no professional ethics. He is always dreaming of cutting people up. He was involved in an injury case that occurred during his school days, but it was handled confidentially by his father’s power, the hospital director. He still has a complex about this incident and wants to kill his father one day.

Kiyoshi Mitarai - “Seaman”: can mix his own blood with liquid to create a liquid organism. Once captured, you cannot escape unless you defeat him. He’s once drowned in water, he is good at swimming but has a fear of water somewhere in his mind. He recently stopped the swimming school after attending for five years. But the reason wasn’t the fear of water, he was disgusted with himself who sexually looked at women in swimsuits.

Kaname Hagiri - “Sniper”: has the ability to use his energy to manifest targets on an opponents' body and to imprint his energy into projectiles that will never miss the targets. At the age of 16, he was attending a private high school. His father was a police officer but died in service two years ago. Contrary to his public face of an exemplary policeman, Hagiri feared and looked down on his father who was a vicious drinker at home. His future dream is to be a lawyer or a criminal.

Tsukihito Amanuma - “Game Master”: can bring video games to life and make the opponent a character in the game. He’s an only child whose parents both work. He’s a daydreamer and has great confidence in himself. He often goes to convenience stores, arcades and baseball fields near his house. "If you have a TV and a game, even if the world is ruined it’s not  a big deal," he says, but in fact he is lonely person.

Sadao Makihara - “Gourmet”: swallows other people’s bodies completely, making their abilities his own. His hobby, as the name suggests, is eating. He was clumsy and sluggish and was called by the nicknamed "ox" in high school. He’s not the type that makes an effort, but always wanted “to be good at sports, become strong and improve his grades.” These desires combined with his hobby and the incident of the Demon World’s tunnel, awakened his  "gourmet" ability.

仙水 サイド: 仙水の野望のコマとなる、6人の能力者たち! 中でも、樹はの仙水の片腕として手をかす妖怪なのだ!!

樹 ( いつき ) “門番” (ゲートキーパー) : 次元の扉をあける能力を持つ。"闇撫"と呼ばれる 妖怪で 、 妖力はB級の下位程度 だが 、 いざとなればお亜空間に移動できる能力を持ち防御力はかなり高い。仙水に倒されかけるが 、 その後仙水と 、 つきあい始める。仙水の前にも興味を持ってつきあった人間が何人かいるらしい。

神谷実（かみや みのる）“医師” (ドクター): 念で作ったウイルスで領域内の人間を病気にする。又、鋭いメスのように手刀を持っている。優れた外科医だが 、 職業的倫理はない。いつも人を切り刻む夢を見ている。学生時代に起こした傷害事件が病院長の父の力で内密に処理された事がコンプレックスとなり、いつか父を殺しってやり たいと思っている 。

御手洗清志（みたらい きよし） “水兵”（シーマン) : 自らの血液を液体に混ぜ, 液体生物を作り 出すことができる。この中に取り込まれると, 彼を倒さない限り脱出できない。昔、水で溺れたことがある彼は、泳ぎは得意だが心のどこかに水に対する恐怖心がある。五年通っていたスイミングスクールも最近やめた。しかし理由は水への恐怖心ではなく、水着の女性を性的に見てしまう自分がいやになったからだ。　

刃霧要（はぎり かなめ） “狙撃手”（スナイパー): 自らの気を的に変え敵の肉体にしるし、気を込り送んだ物質を確実に命中させる。私立高校に通う16歳で、父親は警官だったが2年前に殉職。模範的な警官という表の顔とは逆に 、 家では酒乱だった父を彼は恐れ、軽蔑もしていた。そんな彼の将来の夢は弁護士か犯罪者。

天沼 月人 (あまぬまつきひと)  “遊熟者” (ゲームマスター): ゲームを現実化し、相手をゲームの登場人物にすることができる。一人っ子で両親は共働き。空想家で自信家。よくいく場所はコンビニ・ゲームセンター・家の近くの野球場。「TVとゲームさえあれば、世界が破滅しても別にいい」と言う彼だが、実はさびしがり屋なのだ。

巻原 定男（まきはらさだお） “美食家”（グルメ): 相手の身体をまるのみして、その能力を自分のものとしてしまう。領域名通り、食うのが趣味。不器用で動きが鈍く、高校時代は「ウシ」というあだ名で呼ばれていた。努力をするようなタイプではなく、常日頃から「楽してスポーツがうまくなりたい」「強くなりたい」「成績を上げたい」と思っている。その事と趣味が相まって、魔界の扉の事件では“美食家”の能力が覚醒する事となった。
