I believe the time with Ed during Calypso's birthday wasn't Stede's first time having gay sex. At some point he asked Lucius to teach him the basics, because he wanted to know for sure if he was gay or not. Lucius only really agreed to it because he had a bet going with Frenchie (and besides he may like older men a little bit)

They never spoke of it again, and the only ones that know aside from them are Ed and Pete.

Well I would LOVE to hear more about the t4t4t gentlescribed modern AU— What situation have they found themselves in? If you’re inclined to post a snippet obviously I’d be thrilled to read it

Okay! 😊 So, this fic arose because I was talking with fandom friends how the most common character, by far, in the fandom to get headcanoned as trans is Izzy, to the extent that people are starting to tag Cis!Izzy on fics where he's not trans, right? Which, no judgment or negativity there whatsoever, we just happened to be talking about how and why that became a thing.

And then I said 'wouldn't it be funny if I wrote a modern AU where everyone except Izzy is trans?'

And of course, then I had to do that.

Another idea I'd been noodling on for a while was something happening between Lucius and Ed when Lucius goes in to comfort Ed in S01E10. (I've seen other variations of that, liked them a lot, always wanted to play with it.)

So. In this fic, Lucius and Stede are both trans men, everyone else in the crew is some flavor of not-cis, the Revenge is a queer nonprofit that helps provide housing and funds for trans/enby folk in need, Ed and Izzy run an antifa biker gang/minor drug ring, and Ed's egg starts to crack when they all run into each other. (That's all backstory, the fic starts with Lucius going in to comfort Ed after the catastrophe.)

Note that Ed is trans femme/enby in this fic, but she doesn't know that yet, so they are still using he/him pronouns in this snippet.

“Okay, well. Blackbeard. Sir. How are you doing?” “Don’t have to call me that,” Blackbeard said, a little bit of a whine in his voice. “I mean—I don’t know if I want to be Blackbeard anymore. Not like there’s even a gray beard, anymore.”  “We noticed that,” Lucius said tentatively. “What, ah—what happened? If you want to talk about it.”  Blackb—fuck, what was Lucius supposed to call him?—shrugged.  “Pigs said it was a security issue, could hide shit in it or some fucking BS like that. Coulda fought it, or kept a shorter one, but. Thought it’d maybe be smart, you know? Be less recognizable. Got a lot of enemies in prison. Didn’t end up staying long enough for it to matter, though.”  “That makes sense,” Lucius encouraged. “And, maybe it just felt like time to try something new?”  The other’s eyes widened and fixed on Lucius, as if he were seeing him for the first time.  “Yeah,” he breathed. “Yeah, I just… I wanted to be someone else, you know? Sick of being this.”  “Well, what would you like me to call you?” Lucius asked.  The person formerly known as Blackbeard pursed his lips. “I always liked it when people called me Eddie,” he said softly.

To be completely honest, I do not have anything to say about Stede as a character that hasn't already been said by many in this fandom. He's an amazing leading man in our gay pirate romcom, he shows wonderful empathy while also being kind of a bitch, he's everyone's losergirlfriend, he's a Muppet of a man and he's completely insane. He loves committing crimes and then curling up with a good book afterwards.

The one thing that I will say is that...I think it's very possible he is the funniest one in the show. I mean, the show in general is funny but *Stede Bonnet* is *so fucking hilarious*.

I'll go through periods where I'm watching lots of WWDITS or Yonderland or Ghosts or whatever instead of rewatching OFMD and then I suddenly remember how FUCKING funny this guy is?

As a side note, I'm usually such a multishipper. I will ship almost anyone with almost anyone. Especially in OFMD (and wwdits). I'll even ship Ed with some other characters that aren't Stede, honestly. But I'm a fucking Gentlebeard endgamer. These two guys need to be together. And I *do not* ship Stede with *anyone else than Ed*. I know other people in fandom have fun with Steddyhands and Stizzy and even like Gentlescribe but I just can't do any Stede-centric ship that isn't Gentlebeard.

I think it's time to admit to myself that s2 finally got me invested in the edizzy dynamic. prior to those 3 episodes it was solidly third place out of all the stede-ed-izzy duos. but their toxic gaydivorce swagger has gotten me.

also when I say "edizzy" I am referring to their canon dynamic. which is not something that should need to be said but here we are. "edizzy" is not a ship the way "gentlebeard/blackbonnet" is a ship to me. I made a post a long time ago talking about the 4 criteria for me to be into a ship, one necessary and 3 optional. is it INTERESTING? is it CANON? is it FUNNY? is it HEARTWARMING? edizzy is now interesting, and in a very specific way, canon. I don't want them to kiss or fuck, but I am here for the toxic yuri vibes. they're middle school girls irreparably damaging each other to me.

idk if I explained this well, so like, if you were talking about stede and lucius's canon dynamic, you couldn't use "gentlescribe" as a shorthand because that's just not how their dynamic is. gentlescribe has not an ounce of canoness to it. edizzy? edizzy is shorthand to me, in a way. it's almost not a ship at all, and certainly not in the boring way people pretend "shipping" something can only mean you think it's cute and you want them to kiss. absolutely not. I'm here for the rancid vibes. for the killing each other. for the unbelievable love confessions. for the years and years of toxicity boiling over. I'm here for the pain.

Looks like this one had by far the most intriguing working title, since @shoegazy-pie also asked about it here! 😊 You can read the fic description there, and then come back here for a second snippet!

The fic is mostly Ed/Lucius (Lucius/Stede and proper Gentlescribed to come in future sequels, I plan it as a trilogy of short fics), but I thought you'd enjoy this little bit of Lucius and Izzy banter:

Lucius rolled his eyes as he swiveled to face the angry little gremlin man. “You know, you can call me Lucius. Pretty much the only people who call people they actually know by their last name are, like… jocks. Well, and military guys and cops, but that’s just cause that's who the jocks are imitating with their macho fucking bullshit. And, let’s be real, Jim’s occasional drag excursions aside, no one here qualifies as a jock. Well—” He pursed his lips thoughtfully. “The Swede runs a lot. But the track and fielders are always kinda different from, like, the normal jocks, don’t you think?”  “Whatever,” Izzy grumped.  Predictably. The man was basically a flesh and blood Oscar. He just needed a fucking trash can.  “Blackbeard has requested your services,”  Izzy said, clearly forcing each word out through gritted teeth.  Lucius raised an eyebrow. “My services? As a friend? A notary? As a personal assistant? Or as a personal… something else?”  Izzy glared at him, clearly triggered at the mention of Lucius’ other revenue stream.  The SWERFy hypocrite. As if a drug dealer had any business putting up his nose at some cam work and a little light hooking.
