Hii, who do you think is lorenzo's fav boy in s3? Madelina has a special place in his heart. Daddy's little girl🥰 but i am not sure which boy was his fav
Piero- He used to dote on piero and spent time with him until guilio came. I felt like they had a special bond n that's why piero was so hurt about guilio while his brother didn't care much
Giovanni - we didn't get much scenes n almost no affectionate ones but he did lobby to make him a cardinal at 14 and wanted him to be influential so he n piero can aid each other n hold onto their power n become more powerful by having each other's back.
Guilio-he was super affectionate n adored him as a child but he later did nothing to secure his future. Piero was the heir, Giovanni was cardinal. He loved guilio but his children will carry on his legacy so he did favour them later over guilio
hello!! This is an awesome question, thank you my love!!
Okay, so Lorenzo and his kids...that's, that's a big conversation lol, and I guess I should start this off by saying that Maddalena was 100% her parent's favorite child.
I should also say that I really don't like how the show portrayed Lorenzo as a father, it was just shitty, and I personally don't believe he would have been a shitty father. Lorenzo and all his siblings were very loved by their parents, and their grandparents. Piero and Lucrezia were both very involved parents (both in the show and historically)
Historically speaking, Maddalena was Clarice's favorite, but it was also noted that Clarice doted on all her kids, which I thought they brought through in the show which was nice. But they missed the boat with Lorenzo.
Lorenzo was also very involved with his kids, he was involved in their education but also involved in their everyday life. He would hold meetings in the gardens of the Medici Palazzo so he could hang out with his kids while he worked. There was an instance that was recorded that when Clarice and Lorenzo were away from Florence for an extended period of time, (I think they were in Rome), and Lorenzo had to go to Milan I believe on business at the last minute, and when Clarice returned to her children they started crying because Lorenzo hadn't returned with Clarice. So clearly there was a bond. Another example was when Clarice and the children were away from Florence after the Pazzi Conspiracy they stayed in the Villa di Castello I believe, but Piero wrote to his father daily asking when he would visit. So this family was close and Lorenzo was an involved father and I don't know why the show didn't show this.
So take away, historically, Lorenzo probably wasn't a shit father.
Show Lorenzo is another story. I honestly don't know who his favorite son is, my instinct is probably Piero, but Lorenzo is just crap at showing it. Piero is his firstborn, and he was very loved when he is a babe so obviously there would have to be a bond, Lorenzo just sucked at showing that, but that came back to bite him in the butt when Piero basically ends the entire Dynasty in one fellow swoop.
I should say, I do think Lorenzo loves all his kids, I just think he is shit at showing it. The Pazzi Conspiracy broke something in him that he didn't know how to fix and his family suffered because of it.
I am not sure Giovanni would have been Lorenzo's favorite? Just because we didn't see a lot of interactions between the two, and yes, Lorenzo did make sure Giovanni advanced in life and became a Cardinal, but that was more for his own personal ambition than thought for Giovanni because Giovanni wanted to be an artist. So I am not sure Giovanni would count as Lorenzo's favorite.
As for Giulio...I think Lorenzo loved Giulio, yes, and it as good of him to take Giulio in, but I don't think Lorenzo loved Giulio for Giulio. Lorenzo loved Giulio for his brother, for Giuliano. Because in a sense Lorenzo probably saw Giulio as the last thing he had linking him to Giuliano.
As kids, Giulio was probably favored over Piero for that fact, and then as they grew Lorenzo probably still thought of Piero as his favorite child, but then realized he sort screwed up that relationship and slowly began to try to rebuild that relationship.
So yeah if I had to say, I would say Piero was Lorenzo's favorite, Lorenzo just sucked at parenting!

I love finding historical portraits that look like characters. It's useful for referencing, but also fun for pretending that these portraits of nations are lurking around in museums and nobody is the wiser. I found this ages ago, but every time I see it I am thrown for a loop

Have just received volume 5 of Ficino’s letters, this one containing several from both him and Cavalcanti to people giving off strong “old married couple that have a joint email account” vibes and I love that for them

Giovanni Pico della Mirandola was an odd duck. As a young scholar, he allegedly mastered Greek and Latin by the age of 13. In 1484 he met Marsillio Ficino and fabulously wealthy italian banker Lorenzo De Medici, and promptly charmed the both of them, roping tutelage from the former, and patronage from the latter. During his time in Florence he would write the 900 Theses, a text which claimed that not only were Plato and Aristotle reconcilable, but that they were compatible with Christianity. He was quite confident in the strength of his work. In fact, he was so confident that he ended the 900 Theses with the following announcement:
“THE CONCLUSIONS will not be disputed until after the Epiphany. In the meantime they will be published in all Italian universities. And if any philosopher or theologian, even from the ends of Italy, wishes to come to Rome for the sake of debating, his lord the disputer promises to pay the travel expenses from his own funds.”
His plan was to travel to Rome, have the theses published, hold a conference defending his work, defeat every challenger with Facts and Logic, and ride the wave of success to theological glory. On his way to Rome he stopped in the town of Arezzo, had an affair with the wife of one of Lorenzo de Medici’s cousins, attempted to run away with her, got beaten nearly to death, thrown in prison, and then released by order of Lorenzo himself. While recovering from his wounds, he became obsessed with magic.

I love what a drama queen Ficino is sometimes. His sense of humour is also quite delightful
"shall we say that Saturn tests me, and me alone??"
"Honey. Babe. you're fine."
'"sssssh. I'm being ~~~dramatic, Giovanni. No one has suffered how I suffer."
"Nephew Sebastiano wrote you the same thing last week and you were like: calm down, Sebastiano, have patience. Shall I send the letter you wrote him back to you?"
"First, Giovanni, I came here for a good time and I'm feeling very attacked right now. Second, I did say I wrote that letter as much to myself as it was to him. So. There's some self awareness happening here, dear heart."
I feel like Marsilio was someone who you couldn't tell when he was joking or not and Giovanni was just the grounded rock to Ficino's flights of madness and they were just the world's weirdest couple
Lorenzo de' Medici: was that a joke? was that...was Marsilio in jest?
Poliziano: let me find Cavalcanti, our local Ficino-Interpreter.
Giovanni: It was a joke. I'm 92% sure it was a joke.
Lorenzo: I can NEVER tell. I have NO idea how my grandfather always seemed to know.
Giovanni: to be fair, they were besties and Cosimo's ghost hangs out in our backyard.
Lorenzo: which is VERY weird. You know that right?
Giovanni: you get used to it after a while. this is, of course, when my Marsilio isn't summoning daemons to help him heal people like the weirdo he is. I love him.
Lorenzo: adding him to the list of people I'm going to have to tell the Church to back off from and leave alone. Next to Pico Della Mirandola. Poliziano, you're not allowed to be heretical.
Poliziano: too busy being gay and poetic to commit heresy.
Lorenzo: I know. I have to tell the Church to cool its heels about that too.
Meanwhile, Clarice is like "can my husband Lorenzo not have one (1) friend who isn't a heretic, sodomite, flakey artist, mad poet, and/or weird freak? Just. One?"
Lorenzo: shan't.

what do you think it would be like if (and assume that in this Ezio is affected in his actual life by everything Desmond does) When Desmond started in on Ezio’s memories, he accidentally turned on Eagle vision and couldn’t turn it off and so came to the conclusion that Ezio was just color blind- while Ezio is having a major crisis over why he sees everything and nothing all the time! And after Ezio finally accepts this is just how things are now- Desmond finds the off switch and the fallout of color commences at the worst possible time
Considering the first time Desmond connect with Ezio was during his birth, this means that Ezio would believe he is color blind growing up. It would probably be something the Auditores would hide to everyone and Ezio would grow up believing seeing the gray world is some kind of ‘curse’. The truth is his parents are hiding it because they know Ezio isn’t color blind, he sees the blues and the reds. Ezio believes those colors are just part of the gray world he sees but Giovanni knows that this is a sign that Ezio is special, to the eyes of the Brotherhood… and the Templar Order. They’re trying to protect Ezio and his siblings help. Claudia picks his clothes to be sure he doesn’t pick disastrous color combination (by Renaissance standards). Federico would find ways to talk about the colors of this and that so Ezio would have an idea of what color they are in case he needs it later on. Petruccio plays with Ezio of ‘guess the color’ and it helps Ezio differentiate the gray hues or, at the very least, memorize what color they were supposed to be.
And then…
Desmond connects with Ezio again.
I have a feeling you were going for maybe something like Desmond deactivates the Eagle Vision during the Auditore execution but what if…
Desmond didn’t deactivate it but the Animus loaded the next memory on ‘default settings’ which includes…
The Eagle Vision being deactivated.
The next time Desmond connects with Ezio, it took the Animus a bit of time to load everything properly so the settings are changed just after Vieri hit Ezio with the stone.
Ezio’s frozen because his entire world burst into colors.
He can’t even see the sickening red of Vieri anymore.
Just… so many different colors he had never seen before.
And Ezio would assume it was Vieri’s stone that ‘cured’ him of his curse.
And in his delight, he rushed Vieri.
… and kissed him in the lips in gratitude.
Vieri and everyone else are simply confused, wondering if Ezio Auditore da Firenze has gone insane.
He was laughing, even going as far as dancing with the stupefied Vieri.
It was only when Federico got there that Ezio let go of Vieri and told him as he hugged his brother, “I can see!”
Federico realized what he means and he gets Ezio out of there, apologizing to Vieri and telling him they’d kick his ass later.
And the next memory Desmond sees is Ezio’s family being happy and hugging him because he can now see.
Desmond is just confused.
Sooooo… Ezio was blind before???
That’s what Desmond assumed until he activated the Eagle Vision again to check his surrounding after Ezio receives his father’s orders to bring some documents to Lorenzo de’ Medici then he heard Ezio’s sharp intake of breath and how he started to panic. Ezio ran back home and tells his father that he can no longer see anymore and their conversation tipped Desmond off that they’re talking about the Eagle Vision.
He deactivates it and got his confirmation when Ezio told his father that he can see again.
And Desmond starts to freak out because this means he can… what? Change what the Animus is showing? Change the past?
“That’s ridiculous, Desmond. The Animus can only show the past. This is probably some kind of bug.” Lucy would try to tell him but he can’t shake off the feeling that it might be something more.
Because of how frightened Ezio had been to lose his ability so see colors, his father tells him to rest in the house for now and orders Federico to deliver the documents instead.
Federico returns soon enough to Claudia and Petruccio with Ezio, trying to get him to relax a bit. Claudia didn’t even read the letter she had received today because she had been worried about Ezio.
So when the guards came to take them away…
Ezio was there.
… with Desmond who can control Ezio.
… with the skills from his waking bleed of Altaïr.
