Massive thank you to Shannon for me snap her & her Corsa. She was the perfect model & made my job hella easy! For this mini-shoot went with the tried & tested 85mm F1.8, what must be the Daddy for portrait photography. The low aperture £1.8 was a must as we were losing light due to the sun setting as we started shooting. Luckily there were artificial lights in the background which made for some nice bokeh during the reel intro. In terms of shot aesthetics, I went for a variety of looks. Played around with sepia finishes (which I can’t get enough of!) But also wanted to compliment Shannon’s rich complexion 👀🤌 by creating strong contrast shots like the 2nd image in this batch or the cover image of the reel. This is hands down my favourite shot, although I find when people comment they always like the shots I don’t 🙄😄…. So please do let me know which shots you prefer? . Fabric stocks are dwindling, for my tea towel V-neck maillot and bikini.

Because it uses the most fabric, the maillot will be the first that will need to be archived. Rather than being able to be ordered as a specially made piece, only the samples I have, will be available for purchase, until they sell out.

The same will eventually happen to the high waisted bottoms. As for the briefs and bralettes, I will continue to make those to order, while ever I have sufficient sized remnants in store.

I only ever had the smallest amount of it milled. Furthermore, my order was on the mill's wait list so long, that I couldn't say when, or if, I might ever have it again.

The appeal was two-fold.

One: it took me back to tea towels I was handed, as a small boy, to dry up after dinner in my grandparents' kitchen. The environment of older cousins, and cupboards I could not reach, made me feel so important. (I feel a Go-Betweens song coming on now).

Two: it is a tour de force in stretch-woven fabric technology. Gingham check, and seersucker, AND a woven-in metallic gold accent, in an elastic stretch fabric? This is the current state of the art.

As a tiny independent designer, I don't have the budget to subscribe to WGSN (the industry website that tells brands which colours to order, two years in advance of each season). I design from the heart. That was what made it so rewarding to see the pieces I designed with this fabric, snapped up, as they were.

There was a solid run from Newcastle thanks, I believe, to a story from Libby of @pappasvens, after she bought some for herself. I would love to have your influence Libby 🥰

But there were also orders from as far away as Hong Kong, and just now, another from Darwin.

Who knows if the little fabric I have left, and the samples I have already made, will sell out, or hang around in sealed bags in my store room forever. They're so pretty to look at, I wouldn't mind being left a few!

A new kind of compression garment just hit the Australian active wear market!

In the blue corner, is my original use of this fabric: my fast drying, boy leg, swimming costume.

In the red corner, my newly released stretch-woven compression pants. This fabric will change your expectations in gym wear.

STRETCH-WOVEN FABRIC

The fabric doesn't incorporate elastane into a knit. It is woven (yes woven!) using composite stretch fibres, every last one of them exerting compression. This new kind of technical fabric is 35% lighter, more abrasion resistant, and, because it is flat woven, it doesn't trap sweat.

MINIMALIST STYLING

Style wise, I'm an architect, so not into pseudo "anatomical" cuts. My background in competitive cycling also means I've seen too many glued/welded seams peel apart. I hand cut each piece myself, in my studio in Newcastle East in Australia, then double sew every seam for the utilitarian finish I appreciate in clothing intended to last.

TECHNICAL FABRIC AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE

For comparison's sake, one leading swim brand sells racing shorts in this fabric for $400. I keep my costs down, by not cutting an inch of this fabric until you, the end-consumer, pay for your order. But even with this made-to-order model, I still manage to dispatch each order in under a week.

THE REAL FIGHT

The real fight with gym clothing, is against sweat, and the cheap knitted fabric that traps it.

My stretch-woven compression pants allow for evaporation, while providing medical-grade compression, not when you're shopping or lounging, but during actual workouts, when your muscles are most sorely in need.
