Hello I love your fan fiction I especially love how much thought is put into it. I have a question though do you plan to create other fan fiction with Varian as the main character? I’ve seen your art so I’m curious.
Thank you @keeperofhounds!!!  I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!  :D
As for any other fan fictions featuring Varian, I have done quite a few one-shots with him as the main character for the most part (you can find a collection of them on AO3), and I did do a brief multi-chapter mini-saga inspired by “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” with him in it as well, but as of right now I don’t really have any big plans to take on another large piece like GitW.  Partially because I would like to get GitW done first before attempting anything else big like that, I would like to know a bit more about him and his mysterious past in-canon (still waiting for the rest of season 02
), and then just responsibilities irl that need my energy and attention.
I’m sure I’ll continue to do some one-shots here and there at least, and I think there would be a possibility for me to do something for a fun AU that could be canon divergent that would be fun to explore, but I’m not certain at this stage I’m afraid.  Will just have to wait and see!

Fanfic Day Meme: All of them please? For question #3, let's go with GITW.
Is that allowed? Eh, either way, this will save anyone else from having to put in a message. ;) Here ya go - from this post!
1. What is your favorite fic you have under your belt?
It is a toss-up between Beginner Level and All That We Are. I just had SO MUCH FUN with Beginner Level - it was a silly, fluffy AU fic, and I love it. ATWA is the opposite - heavy and with a fair amount of angst - but it was the first time experimenting with symbolism and multiple development arcs, and I’m very proud of how it turned out.
2. What is your favorite snippet of dialogue?
Answered here.
3. What inspired (GITW)?
Hmm
Honestly, nothing special. I was turning the idea of a coffee shop AU around in my head, and then I got the idea of the two of them and their newly-confirmed mutual feelings having an awkward-infatuated moment of customer service while having to pretend to be cool in front of another person and I built basically the entire fic around getting to that scene (in probably the most round-about way I could). Heh.
4. Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
Hmm
That’s a difficult one. I guess it depends? Mostly I find that the ideas that bite me with inspiration tend to be the long ones. But I do love writing short fics too, when those ideas strike, so
 it depends what’s inspiring me.
Long fics do tend to be difficult to write after a certain point, though, so maybe short fics have the edge there.
5. What’s your favorite headcanon you use in fics?
Most obvious is that Fushimi and Yata are gay or bisexual and in love with each other, but that’s probably a little TOO obvious.
I think the big one would have to be them being complete losers about dating and romance. Like, I headcanon Yata as being straightforward but awkward about flirting or expressing interest, and easily flustered. Subtlety and nuance go right over his head. With Fushimi, I headcanon him being too cautious - he’s better at flirting than Yata but he won’t do it unless he has some kind of ‘out’ where he doesn’t have to admit he actually cares. He’ll tell himself he can’t be bothered when he’s really too wary.
I think these turn up in most of my fics.
6. What’s the detail you wait on bated breath for readers to notice?
I don’t have any I’m waiting for people to catch, but there were a few I was stoked that people noticed. The particular descriptions of the flowers in each scene in ATWA that had them was one. Another was the book Yata’s mom gave him, which a number of people mentioned they took note of. The flirting advice in Beginner Level that made an appearance later in the fic is another.
There are probably more, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind.
7. How much do you like symbolism in your fics?
Honestly, I’m not usually too big on symbolism usually. My first real experiment with explicitly planned symbolism was ATWA, which I think went pretty well! I wouldn’t mind trying something else like that again sometime, but it’s not my usual style.
8. How often do people catch onto your little details?
Almost all the time, which makes me really happy, honestly! I don’t mind if people miss them, but it’s nice to hear it when someone picks up on one or more of the little things.
9. What’s the fic you like the least?
Urgh
I do actually like all my fics at least a little. I don’t hate any of them really, even if I’m not completely satisfied with some of them. But I would say probably Staying Over is my least favorite. Like I said, I don’t hate it (I think it turned out fairly cute), but I wish I’d thought up a more engaging plot of some kind.
10. What would you change if you had it all to do again?
One thing I can think of off the top of my head is that I’d probably change a lot of things about Building Bridges. I don’t want to do a re-write now and I know a lot of people really love it, but I got a very thoughtful critique on it a while back and if I was to write it now with that knowledge in my head, I’d probably do a lot of things very differently. The first chapter would probably not include making out, I’d tighten up the events and try to tie them in to some sort of coherent plot rather than being all over the place, and I’d likely change a few things about the reconciliation scene, too.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate how the fic turned out. But I’d definitely write it very differently if I was doing it over now.
11. What’s a fanfic idea you haven’t done yet?
Just one? There are so many! I wish I had more time and energy to write them all (but y’know, I gotta work and make money and other RL things, so I have to go at the pace I can handle).
One that I’d like to do is an idol AU where Fushimi and Yata are essentially fuckbuddies who would like to actually Relationship but neither one will bring it up - and they have to be pretty secretive already about their current situation due to being idols. I’m not sure if it’ll be my next fic (assuming there is a next fic after the one I’m working on - we’ll see how things look), but it’s been kicking around in my head for a while now.
12. What’s the hardest thing to write for you?
I think probably descriptions. I’ve been told that one of the big weaknesses in my writing is creating atmosphere and a solid picture of the environment (surroundings, placement of characters, etc). I struggle with this every time.
13. Do you have a favorite character to write for?
Yata is my favorite character to write for right now. I love writing him.
14. What’s your favorite shipping fic you’ve written? Favorite gen fic?
The two shipping fics I mentioned in question #1 are tied for my favorite. As for gen fics, I’d say For Old Times’ Sake (for my Homra feels).
15. Give us a snippet of something from your WiPs!
Answered here.
If you want clarity on any of these or a slightly difference answer, let me know!

Random GitW note #31
Dipper doesn’t connect with Ford as easily in the Gems in the Woods AU as he does in canon. This is because Ford’s paranoia manifests very differently from his canon version because of their different experiences. Canon!Ford is battle-handened in a way that makes his paranoia seem like he’s just Crazy Prepared. In the AU, however, Ford is just twitchy in a way that doesn’t really endear him to Dipper.
Dipper doesn’t dislike Ford, however. He very much respects his great uncle’s intelligence and desires his attention and approval. However, Ford’s twitchiness here functions a lot like Stan’s standoffishness in canon. It causes Dipper some degree of resentment and it makes him wonder just how much this weirdo loner of a relative actually cares about him and Mabel.
Mabel is, of course, just as willing to give Ford a chance as she is to give one to Stan in canon. She also responds to Ford’s jumps and starts a lot more easily than Dipper due to her own flighty personality. She easily goes on tangents herself, so she doesn’t begrudge Ford for focusing on odd details a bit too intently.
Ford also manages to help Mabel appreciate the supernatural a lot more than she does in canon, giving Dipper a much more willing and helpful partner in his escapades. Because of this the twins are going to be doing a bit more exploring and mystery-solving than they did in canon.

Ghost in the Wires AU
hello! I am back with yet another au! This one comes after the end of Wilbur's story in DSMP
Basically, cc!Wilbur finishes writing and streaming his character's last video when he hears Ghostbur talking to him through his headphones. Turns out setting his character free also freed Ghostbur from limbo and into his computer. The two of them get along and do things together, Wilbur teaching Ghostbur how to edit videos and Ghostbur building a minecraft world for the two of them to play in.
When Quackity invites Wilbur to the QSMP, the three of them device a plan to have Ghostbur, under the alias Albert (or AI-bur), pretend to be an AI version of Wilbur that will play on the server (and eventaully take care of Tallulah) while Wilbur is out on tour.
Only the admins, Quackity, and eventually Phil know the true nature of Albert. Albert's skin is the same as Wilbur's just mirror flipped with a blue sweater and pure white eyes.

Ur writing is so good!! Any tips you could give me for my story with Varian??
Awww, thank you so much @rainsplash69!!!  :D
Hmm
as for Varian story writing tips, here are a few things that I try to keep in mind when writing a story around him:
- The Draw of the Character - When it comes to writing about Varian (or most any character in fan fiction for that matter) it’s good to keep in mind what draws people to that character in the first place, and then figure out how you can employ those traits into your own story. For Varian, a lot of fans seem to be drawn to him because of his compelling story arc, his cute character design, his quirky nerd traits, that odd space he inhabits between being an adorkable and well-meaning friend to the main cast in the beginning of the series and then to
well, a murderous and broken antagonist in the latter part of season 01, etc. Take the traits that really make Varian an interesting/endearing/compelling/appealing character to the audience, and use them to the best of your ability in writing about him.
- Setting His Mood - In the canon series, Varian’s an extremely emotive character, which comes through in his facial expressions, his body language, his actions, and his speech. While some characters tend to express their emotions dominantly through one or a couple of these traits, Varian tends to express his feelings through all of them in some form.  So when I attempt to describe how he’s thinking and feeling about something, I try to include a little bit of each of these things in how I do it. For example, if Varian’s feeling uneasy about something, I’ll write about how his facial expression shows suspicion, perhaps his posture is also rather defensive, maybe he’s hugging Ruddiger close in order to feel more secure, and his tone of voice and words come out a bit faltering if he’s unsure of himself. It helps to paint a more vivid picture of Varian visually and audibly (in a sense) for the audience, and makes whatever scenario he’s painted in feel more real and believable for his character. It’s also good to strike a balance between “showing” and “telling” what a character is thinking and feeling, as you don’t want to bog an audience down with details (which would be an excess of “showing”), while also not being so short or vague on details that the audience is left dissatisfied in how the picture was painted for them (which would be only “telling” an audience how things are). There’s definitely a time and place for both. The trick is just finding out how to employ them in a balanced way.
- Speech Patterns and Vocabulary - Once Varian’s mood has been established, then I try to supplement that with his dialogue. I’m not always successful at this, but when writing dialogue for Varian, I try to think of what I’ve already heard from him in the series, and apply his speech patterns and vocabulary to the gist of what I want him to be saying or talking about. For example, in the show, Varian tends to stutter a bit when he talks, so I’ll often have him stuttering in the dialogue I write for him. Usually this stuttering becomes more pronounced when he’s excited or nervous about something - as if his brain is running a bit faster than his mouth (and given how brainy of a person he is, this is very likely for him I think). Varian will also sometimes throw in some big, science-y words here and there, while also having a lot of the teenage sass mixed in there as well, which is fun to combine!
- Accounting for History and Realistic Reactions - Another thing that I’m not always successful at but try to keep in mind when I write a Varian fic (unless it’s for an AU very independent of canon series material) is Varian’s history, and how he would realistically react to whatever scenario I put him in when writing a fic. For example, in “Gauze in the Wound”, I try to keep reminding myself of all that happened to Varian in season 01, how it all affected him in the canon series, how far realistically things would’ve progressed for him with Xavier’s aid, and then trying to realistically explore how it would continue to influence him in the story as events occur. Having (fairly) realistic reactions to things is also always a good bonus in fan fic writing, as it’s really what makes a character believable - and often relatable - to the audience. If I wrote GitW in such a way where Varian is almost immediately healed and ready to move on from everything after only meeting once with Xavier, then that wouldn’t be very realistic at all (and would also make for a very short and boring story). While I am not always successful at it, I do try hard to think about what possible realistic reactions Varian would have towards whatever’s going on around him in a given scenario, and use the tips above to work that into the fabric of the story.
- Being Mindful and Self-Aware - Tying in a bit to the above tip, I also feel that personal intentions are very important when writing fan fiction. I mean, for sure, not every single piece of fan fiction written has to be ĂŒber deep, dark, and/or meaningful (some can just be fun, theoretical, and/or silly!), and not everything that authors of fan fiction write about necessarily reflects their own personal values. But I do try to keep a kind of mindfulness about it whenever I do it, even for the little one-shots. For example, I try to remember that given the target audiences of the canon material, it’s pretty likely that I could have a very young demographic coming upon the material, so I try to make it appropriate for a general audience when it comes to character interactions, depictions of violence or blood, language used, explorations of life and death themes, etc. I also do want the things I write to be meaningful and edifying for my audience(s), even if it’s only in a small way, and I try to do this by taking the above tip in mind (the one about characters having realistic reactions to things), drawing upon inspiration from other works (both from other fan fics and also original works out there in the world), and in being mindful and prayerful in how I write (as I also do find it to be a kind of spiritual activity for me a lot of the time, even if not overtly stated within the material itself). It can also become an exercise in analyzing my own heart, as trying to write realistically makes me consider how I myself may theoretically respond to certain things, and how that reaction may be similar or different to how Varian (or other characters) would respond. Hopefully, in this exercise, I can glean out a story that resonates with my heart, and hopefully with the hearts of others as well!
Hope this is helpful!  :D
