Been floating around all day thinking about nandermo kissing. Drove for 6 hours didn’t remember anything just day dreamed about nandermo kissing. The idea of them kissing, it does things to me.

guys i have been in a state for days. i am giddy i am gasping for air i am broken inside i am blushing i am sweating i am twirling my hair i am suffering i dont know how to deal with the very real possibility that nandor has loved guillermo for years and has been restraining himself, feigning aloofness, keeping his distance, because all these years he understood that maybe guillermo would never be ready for vampirism - and maybe hes been so depressed in the latest years because hes finally found someone he wants to spend eternity with, and he strongly suspects he will spend eternity missing them instead

Mythology: Character A is an immortal being/god and Character B is the only mortal who’s interacted with them in centuries.

This is turning into more of a Trope-tember/tober/vember but that's what happens sometimes. 😆 I had to cut this one off because I was afraid it would go from 1K to 10K really quickly. I may revisit again though if I have more time.

The idea is that Guillermo is an archeologist studying ancient religions, and Nandor is a god who hadn't quite moved on.

The Power of an Offering

He was Nandor. Nandor, god of Relentlessness. And if there was one thing Nandor did well, it was…not relent. So as centuries passed, turning his beautiful temple, once the jewel of Al Quolanudar, to ruins, Nandor remained.

Once the world was full of gods and god-like beings. Each served their own purpose in the world, and sometimes depending on what that service was, they were praised by the mortals. Temples built in their honor, wars raged in their names, prayers sobbed into their ears. That was many centuries ago. Most of the so-called ‘well known’ gods were dead now. Killed by the very mortals that claimed to love them. The rest scattered to the wind. Hiding away to lick their wounds. Nandor didn’t know how many of his kind remained.

Nandor missed the days of warriors and kings bowing before his feet in the hope of outlasting the next battle, the next opponent, the next day. However, things weren’t so bad. Every morning, he rearranged the sand piles, trying to straighten up but not dislodge the scorpions or vipers of their homes. By the afternoon, he would go down to the underground library to read from the scrolls that hadn’t crumbled to dust yet. And in the evenings, he found himself staring up in the gaping hole at the center of his temple to look at the stars. It was a meager routine for a god, but Nandor had found immortality had worn on his ability to care. For the first time in his long, long life, he started to wonder what would happen if he just…relented? Not even a full twenty-four hours after having that thought, something new wandered into his life.

“Guillermo! Get over here! I think we found something.” 

Nandor watched the humans that walked on the roof of his temple gather near the hole somehow managing to shine their concentrated torch light down towards him. Nandor hid behind one of his pillars, watching with narrowed eyes. He has dealt with looters before. They quickly and fatally learned the definition of relentless at the hands of the warrior god.

“I think this is it! Let’s get some ropes to lower me down.” Another voice declared.

Nandor slunk back into the shadows, retrieving his scimitar as he waited for his prey to enter his realm. Then he waited, and he waited, and he waited some more. Honestly, he was about to go up there and check things out for himself. What exactly was taking so long? When finally, a form was lowered into his domain. Nandor couldn’t help but stare at the surprisingly wonderfully plump man with some sort of odd glass lens on his face. When Nandor had been offered concubines and human sacrifices that he allowed to live if they served him, he always had a tendency to prefer the heftier ones to the skinny ones.

He still could cut the ropes and watch the human thief fall to his death. However, Nandor found himself hesitating. Perhaps the human didn’t intend to steal from him. He really hoped this human didn’t intend to steal from him.

“I’m down. I’m going to take off the harness now.” The human called up to his human friends after reaching Nandor’s temple.

He undid the ropes surrounding his body, disappointing Nandor to a certain extent, before using his bright torch. Nandor became one with the shadows, keeping himself hidden from the blinding light. Seriously, it was like the human was carrying around a mini sun with that thing.

“Wow,” The human breathed. “The temple of Nandor, the Relentless god.”

Nandor has always called himself ‘god of Relentlessness’ but he supposed that worked too.

“I don’t know if you’re still here, Nandor.” The human continued to speak.

Nandor perked up at being addressed.

“But I thought it would be better to bring an offering just in case. The legends say you’re a warrior god who kills anyone who invades your realm without permission, so I thought I should play it safe.”

Nandor didn’t care for the laughing tone the human seemed to have while making his speech, but he would forgive it under the circumstances. He was about to receive an offering! After all this time. 

“I don’t know what’s traditional in this case, but I do have this loaf of bread…”

The meager meal, that would have been an insult a mere couple of centuries ago, was laid on the offering table. Immediately, Nandor could feel power surge through him again. He released a sigh, extinguishing the overly bright torch as he lit his own surrounding the room. The human jumped in fright shouting to the humans who lowered him in. Well that certainly wouldn’t do. Some of his powers restored, Nandor created a sandstorm. He could hear the humans above shouting and running away, leaving their friend behind. Typical humans. Nandor’s human was frightened though, and Nandor didn’t want him to be. Especially not after receiving such a wonderful gift.

“What is your name, Bread Man?” He purred.

The human whipped his head around, trying to pinpoint Nandor in the shadows. He held his mini torch as one would a sword, ready to attack at any moment. Good! Nandor loved warrior servants. And that’s just what he was going to do. Turn this human into the first of his new disciples. 

“My name is Guillermo. Guillermo de la Cruz.”

“Guillermo.” Nandor tasted the name on his tongue, loving the way it made the human shiver. “Yes, it is decided then.”

“What’s decided?! What’s going on?”

Nandor waited until the human was facing him once more before materializing before him. Guillermo gasped, the torch falling from his numb hands as he stared at Nandor in a state of total reverent shock. At least Nandor assumed it was reverence that caused his mouth to drop and cheeks to pink.

“I have decided…to choose you to serve me. I am Nandor, God of Relentlessness! And you, Guillermo de la Cruz, shall be the greatest warrior ever known once I’m through with you.”

Despite being a Nandermo shipper, in the end I really wanted Guillermo to have experienced a happy, normal and loving relationship. Because our boy deserved some of good stuffs happening to him after being fucking shipped into a crate across a fucking ocean !

Of course it couldn't work in the long run, because he is a murderer that want to become a blood sucking monster... And also is extremely co-dependent with Nandor and all that. But he could have had a little treat ! I thought that the downfall of the relationship would be the incompatibility of it with his chosen lifestyle, or him realising that when compared to Nandor Freddie was bland / not exciting at all.

But no ! In the end Freddie is just a freaking cheater that doesn't really care about Guillermo and their relationship ! I am pretty sure even the flight to New-York was more of an excuse to have a free guide while being a tourist than to actually be with Guillermo.

I agree that with the casualness with which he cheated on Guillermo it's highly likely that he cheated before Nandor and his clone ... And again super sad for Guillermo.

I was right on the blandness / boringness of the guy though. My god that roomba joke was terrible.

Can't wait for Nandor getting the stick out his ass, realise how in love in Guillermo he is and worshipping the hell outta him. It's what our boy deserves !

See, with the preface that I really do adore Guillermo and he’s probably my favorite character on tv… I was not rooting for him to have a healthy relationship with a normal guy who loves him! I do not think he deserves that, I do not think he’s capable of that, and I do not think that he even truly wants that, though he obviously thinks he does. 

What I think I wanted was for Guillermo to attempt to have this relationship with this genuinely nice man who respected him, but then to realize that he’s just not capable of maintaining a normal relationship. What I love most about Guillermo is that he truly believes he’s the only normal one in the room — but he’s just as crazy as the rest of them. He’s always looking into the camera like he fully believes he’s the straight man (…so to speak) in this situation! And I adore it when they cut directly from Guillermo being like “haha, they’re so crazy” to him doing something twice as insane himself. 

You do not fool the camera crew, Guillermo, and you do not fool me!

I wanted this truly nice guy to come visit and I wanted it to go to absolute hell. I wanted this man to find out that Guillermo had been lying to him like he breathed this entire time, or maybe get put in terrible danger due to Guillermo’s lifestyle, or even just realize that he was dating a literal serial killer and leave. I wanted Guillermo to have to confront the fact that he gave up his chance at normal well over a decade ago and that he is well and truly one of the household — with all of the awful things that implies about him.

Guillermo really acts like he’s above the vampires while seemingly wanting to join them, and I wanted him to have to confront that he is where he belongs and that all of the awful things that happen to him are a direct result of his own choices — but so are all the good things. 

I also would have been very chill with Guillermo getting bored with his very normal man and realizing that he craves the chaos and challenge of the vampiric world. But that really would have been the same situation, or even one that could be combined with the first… It’s still just Guillermo coming to realize that he is too far removed from humanity to reintegrate into it whenever he pleases. More importantly, it's him being forced to accept that he is the one who removed himself. 

I guess, in the end, I ship nandermo because I believe that both of them are disasters that truly deserve each other, for better or for worse. They both have bags upon bags of issues, but their issues intersect in largely complementary ways. (Which is, I think, how they ended up becoming so codependent in the first place.)

I do also think that once they finally get their heads out of their asses and get together, some of their issues will mellow out considerably (the abandonment issues, lying, lack of trust, an almost pathological need to be needed, etc.) while others will be uhhhh… exacerbated. (Violent tendencies, jealousy, possessiveness, tunnel vision, etc.) I feel like they’ll be an unholy terror together and I am unbelievably here for that. They will worship at the altar of each other’s issues and then go out murdering together and the world is not prepared at all. lmao

but yeah, I fully agree about how bland and disappointing Freddie turned out to be. (And that he probably just wanted to visit NYC, not Guillermo specifically.) Real missed opportunity imo but like. I ain’t the show runner, I just write self-indulgent fanfic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

💖What do you like best about your own writing?

This is a bit silly but -- that it makes me laugh.

I usually include jokes and situations in my work because they? genuinely amuse me! And reading back, when I can stomach it, I get a lot of joy out of feeling like a joke landed, or that I got timing right or described something in a really amusing way.

I also really like that I think I care about character a lot. I love to show who a person is in little things; what they like to eat and drink, how they spend their free time, what they choose to wear and how they wear it. I love describing the spaces people inhabit-- bedrooms, offices-- what do they surround themselves with. I believe that soul is encapsulated in a bunch of small aspects.

Lastly I would say I'm proud of the research I do, specifically regarding past eras. Historical accuracy mean a lot to me, but I also cherish nostalgia as a central part of my work. If a character is watching TV or eating cereal, I'm going to make sure that show or brand is true to the world I've put my story in.

🍰What are some comfort fics of yours?

I got a few classics. A lot of what makes a 'comfort' fic of mine comes down to things I actually enjoy reading and often admire, and use as goalposts for my own work. When you can enjoy a fic like literature, and it lets you see characters in a new light, you keep coming back.

This is sort of an honorable mention but I read a lot of NorriBeth fics back in the day on fanfiction.net. It's a favorite ship I always treasured, and I still stand by it, even if learning that Keira Knightly's age was much younger than her character's was a bit of a 'woof' moment (17 vs 19, I know it's not a lot but geez, UK age of consent, cmon now...). So many of my favorite fics are literally lost either to time or to the deteriorating watery grave of the FFN platform, but they forever have my heart.

Of the ones that survived Davy Jones' Locker, I adored Bound in her bones by snowbryneich.

A 27 chapter masterpiece of romantic tension, featuring a realistic take on arranged marriage of convenience to lovers with an empowered and relatable Elizabeth, a Darcyesque Norrington, an perfect historical accuracy to the nines. I was fucking riveted, and the same author did a couple other great ones, such as 'Fresh As A BrideGroom'. Other than that, I would be remiss to answer this without touching on one of my all time favorite fics, In A Strange Land by @mrs-evadne-cake, a phenominal writer who I'm sure is tired of both the Stranger Things fandom at large and also me, this specific fanfic author greenhorn, continually singing her praises. It almost embarasses me to gush MORE about it, especially since the author is an honest to god professional. I've written on it before, it's well paced, well crafted, terrifying, and exceptional use of every character. The kids are well written and adorable, the teens are nuanced and REAL in a way the show never grasped. There's enough Steve to sate my voracious need to watch his character development, and I even got a bit of Murray who is probably my weirdest blorbo of all time. If a fic is a weapon, this fic is a mythic one-of-a-kind sword, OP is a legendary dwarven blacksmith, and i am an awestruck lil hobbit apprentice hastily scribbling notes. If I had to rate my favorite Stranger Things seasons it would go like this: 1. Season 3

That's all I have to say about that.

Third space I would say is a tie between : Praise You by HeartlessMemo, which is a master class on erotica and plus size bodies, but speaks to me personally as a bulimic and will likely touch anyone with body issues. It's hot, it's passionate, it's kinky as hell. Nandermo from WWDITS at its absolute best.

And the other one is A Bastard's Carol by scumbaganarchy @scumbaganarchy, who I have been honored to get to know as of late! What the hell do you want me to say. It's 'A Christmas Carol' with the entire Rik Mayall cinematic universe. Not only is funny, but it's also touching, genuinely heartwarming, treats all these bizarre characters like real, breathing people. I cozy up to it every holiday when I can with a hot drink, it's a true classic and just goes to show that passion and creative understanding of any fandom no matter how niche can produce something really meaningful. This fic is the pride of the 1980s Bitish Anarchocomedy Fandom of the modern era, and any Young Ones (or Bottom) fan should give it a look.

WWDITS fic recs- 2!

I missed a couple in my first post and I’ve also read quite a few more since then and you know what, I think it’s worth it to promote all these authors’ work! Evidently I’m still afflicted with these brain worms so why not use them to make some writers and readers happy. I see a lot of people being like “I need fic of this or that” and I’m like aaaahhh it exists! So here are my recs, once again, for the fics that I personally thought were either well-written or well-characterized or both.

i lied about the whales by morian ( @nonagethimus on here) FREAKING SLAPS... you want communication issues, this is the one to read. This is a “what if Nandor and Guillermo got to go on their road trip after all” fic. Very, very good content

Living in an Age That Calls Darkness Light by holograms ( @acanofpeaches on here) is one that I forgot last time but it’s so so so good. Post-The Wellness Center fic that really delves into the mental health parts. TW for discussions of eating disorders (but, you know, with like, blood, not food, obviously)

come and break me down by inkstainedwretch is INSANELY good. This one’s like 90% a sex scene so obviously avoid if you don’t want to read a sex scene. But oh my god the writing. The characterization. It’s a Nandermo road trip fic featuring a “oh no I hope you don’t show me how good you are at killing vampires” moment lmao please read it

Uncle Afanas by letek is for the Colin Robinson fans out there, as well as the Baron/Sire fans. It’s about the Baron and the Sire babysitting kid Colin Robinson! hello! it’s adorable! It’s really well written too!

Oh wait almost forgot to rec MY new fic, Vampire Vignettes, by ME, which is my speculations about the end of season 4. Nandor and Guillermo are navigating their relationship awkwardly, Nadja and Laszlo are doing the same, and Colin Robinson is a very annoying teenager. Featuring Colin using fidget spinners to drain people and Nandor trying his hardest to be affectionate

Guillermo Has a Secret, Nandor Suspects Cats, and Laszlo and Nadja Couldn’t Give a Fuck, Except That They Do by cosmicocean is a delight. Basically just the vampires speculating about Guillermo and being adorable and stupid. Ft. accidental baby acquisition, which normally I’m like eh about but it’s sweet here

Ship to wreck by nea9 is FANTASTIC!!! If you want Nadja and Guillermo bonding on the sea voyage, please read this! The emotional poignancy of both of them talking about their lives and emotions is so much. Very beautifully written and wonderful.

I design disasters by lizluz ( @michshlo on here) is beautiful. A simple beautiful fic about Nandor and Guillermo confessing their feelings after returning to Staten Island.

Time Off by colormehappy is another simple, sweet fic about Guillermo about 3 years into his familiar service taking the week off to get top surgery, and just the basic life complications around that. Very fluffy, very nice.

Apologize Like You Mean It by DarklyGleaming is a Nadja/Laszlo smut fic essentially which gets into their emotions as well, right after the “Witches” episode about both of them being sad about the Lilith situation and then having makeup sex. It’s very lovely and good.

Coming Up Aces by Heather N is a fun, short crack fic about Colin Robinson taking Laszlo and Nadja to what they think is “a sexual meetup” but is actually an asexual meetup and they just fully don’t get it.

Transcript of a Lost Tape by selfindulgences is a fun movie-crossover one written in script format that addresses the plot hole of “if the sire thing is true, then how come Deacon didn’t die when Petyr died in the movie” in a funny cute way

if it was with you by milesofregrets is a rewrite of the s3 finale fight scene that delves more into Nandor’s vampire-related existential crisis and ends with confessing feelings

I’m classifying the rest of these as “miscellaneous Nandor/Guillermo fluff” because they are basically all fluff without plot

I will preface this by saying that of course I’m a nandermo shipper so I’m biased but like

as a writer

I’m looking at this whole Freddie thing with like... increasing confusion. Like... the way to get your audience invested in a romance is to, y’know, show it? They’re hinting at it, but we’re not really getting to see any of the things that usually get fans into a romance. Not how they met, not how they got together, not how they actually interact, not their ship dynamic... It’s mostly been some generic phone endearments and Guillermo hanging up on him mid-sentence. Hard to get a handle on, y’know?

At this point, I’m guessing that there’s a very high likelihood that we really won’t even see the guy until the end of the season. And while hinting at a mysterious lover is great for a fuckin murder mystery or something, it’s not an effective way to get an audience invested in what a romance is rather than what it could be.

So at this point, I can’t help but wonder if we’re not supposed to be getting invested in it...?

Maybe I just spent too long in Big 2 comics fandom, but I know that a good way to get your fans annoyed at a new love interest is to have an established main character go from 0 to 60 about them with no build-up that the fans are actually privy to. Like, we know that the character has feelings for them, and that’s fine. But in order for the fans to have feelings about them, we also need to kind of fall in love with them, y’know? It’s easy to feel cheated and irritated with a character if the writers neglect that very important step.

When it comes to writing a romance, it’s just... not good writing... And I think these are not bad writers! So the only other thing I can think of is that they’re not writing a romance. Either what they’re actually building to is a storyline about Guillermo’s fucked up interpersonal skills and inability to ever actually be “normal” (highly likely, I think) or one where Freddie causes trouble (less likely, I think, though this show doesn’t really have normal people in it) or it’s going to be a story about Guillermo and Nandor in the end (which feels... pointed in the show itself, but seems unlikely from interviews?) or... I don’t know.

I’ve been trying to give both of these new relationships absolute benefit of the doubt (despite obviously not really wanting them to go well, lmao) because I mean! I’ve changed my mind on pairings that split up my ships if they’re well-written enough! I’ve actually spun dozens of scenarios for how these two relationships could work in my head. But yeah, it’s getting harder and harder with each passing episode. Both Marwa and Freddie feel more like plot devices in someone else’s story than actual characters at this point, and we are swiftly running out of episodes. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to see ways that each of these could become well-written romances. (Nandor/Marwa especially is dead in the water, I think.)

And I mean... These writers are so fucking good at writing romance when it comes to Laszlo and Nadja! That’s a pairing that we were also introduced to well after they got together, but they managed to show their ship dynamic so charmingly so quickly that you kind of feel like you’ve known them forever. So the fact that they’re just... not doing that... has me like ??? what are you planning??? because it sure as shit doesn’t feel like a well-developed romantic storyline! lmao

At this point, even if Freddie does stick around for s5 (not a thing I’m hoping for, mostly bc of narrative cohesion reasons which I went into with one of my last answered asks) his introduction has just been so damn strange that I don’t know if this can ever feel like an organic relationship...? I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and I realized at a certain point that it was because, based on how this is being used in the narrative, it’s starting to feel more like foreshadowing for a bad thing than a good one. Or if not a bad thing, then at least an explosive one?

I mentioned it in one of my last posts, but this is starting to give “Colin’s 100th Birthday” vibes. The way they keep bringing it up, but too quickly for any real information? The way that “Freddie” has been announced as the penultimate episode of the season, the same spot where Colin “died”...? This is starting to make me uneasy!

I guess I’ll just end with saying personally, I kind of hope that the thing with Freddie ends catastrophically just because I like seeing my blorbos Suffer but I acknowledge that’s probably less likely lmao. At this point, I’m just going to be happy if they have a greater plan here that isn’t just “dump an unintroduced love interest on viewers near the end of the season” because again, I just don’t find that narratively satisfying.

Is it correct that we witnessed Guillermo talking to Freddie only two times this season, and the last time was in episode 4 before they went to the Night Market? And next week Freddie will just appear out of nowhere? I guess it is alright for the crazy portion of the fans (us), those who know about the leaks and talk about each episode every week here on this silly little site. But I’m curious how the casual fans (has wwdits casual fans?) will react to Freddie’s appearance. In the end I think I just wanted a few more snippets of Guillermo’s boyfriend throughout the season, followed by short clips of a curious & concerned looking Nandor.

It's unclear, actually. We did see Guillermo on the phone very briefly in Go Flip Yourself, but we don't know if he was talking to Freddie or not. It was while "Bran" was on the phone arguing with the permit guy; we see Guillermo walk out of his room on the phone, see the camera, then walk right back in.

I'd say that it's probably implied that Guillermo was on the phone with Freddie if just because the only time we've seen him on the phone with anyone else in this season was while he was planning for Nandor's wedding. (And... I feel like there might be something to say there, but I think I'll hold onto it for now. lmao) And we've specifically seen Guillermo talking to him on the phone in his room and being secretive about it. It's possible he just didn't want to be on camera, but I think he was, again, trying to hide being on the phone.

(EDIT: someone told me this might have been implying that Guillermo was the permit guy? unsure, but it’s VERY funny if so.)

Anyway... I've talked about this before, but I do agree that the way Freddie's being introduced here is very weird, from a storytelling and pacing standpoint. To me, it feels less like a romantic storyline and more like... god, almost foreshadowing? They haven't shown enough real interaction between the two of them for literally anyone to get emotionally invested in the ship (like really all we've gotten is Guillermo hanging up on Freddie as Freddie tries to say romantic things to him) but it would make sense if they're trying to tease us about something bad coming up. It gives real "someone is suspicious on the phone a lot in a murder mystery" vibes, which is... a weird choice.

I really don't know if this is all purposeful or not. If they really want Freddie to be mostly a short-lived (but emotionally turbulent) obstacle to nandermo, the way it's being written makes some sense. He's not supposed to have a deep character; like Marwa, he's largely a plot device.

But if he is supposed to become a major character that we care about... it's weird. It's weird to expect us to get emotionally involved in a pairing we've never even seen. We've missed the entire first several months of the relationship. We don't even know how long it's been going on, much less how they met or got together. We don't know how they interact. We don't know how they feel about each other. And all that feels important when you're trying to introduce a legit romance...?

At this point, it's obviously information that's being kept from us on purpose. The only reason I can think of is if they're trying to hide some kind of twist from us, like when Laszlo very suspiciously tore that page out of the book in s3. (I've said repeatedly that the way they casually mention Freddie but give zero information about him feels a lot like how they kept mentioning Colin's 100th birthday in s3.) The whole thing kind of has a whiff of Chekhov's Gun, y'know?

But if the twist is just that Guillermo has a boyfriend at all, then... yeah, the characterization and build-up feels lackluster. And then you run into the same problem that I feel like they're having with Marwa. It's hard to get that invested in a character who's only there to cause trouble for the "main" characters. She doesn't have much of her own personality, which is purposefully done (and even lampshaded, to some degree) but like... it still makes it kind of awkward when she's onscreen sometimes.

I really hope that Freddie/Guillermo doesn't become a real thing because at this point, I don't see how it could be done well. There's just too much missing that I feel is intrinsic to making a romantic pairing work on a tv show, especially one that's introduced several seasons in. Having Laszlo/Nadja dropped on us in medias res was fine because it was the beginning of the show, they immediately depicted their dynamic and emotional intimacy, and they quickly explored it more thoroughly. We've really gotten none of that out of Freddie/Guillermo.

So like... really hoping he is going to be a plot device. It's still kind of frustratingly thin if he is, but it's a lot better than this being a half-hearted introduction to a regular character. I think the only way he could work as a regular character at this point is if he ends up being drastically different than we and Guillermo expect. (Like, idk, secretly a villain or a vampire or a slayer or something.) Then both of us get introduced to the true Freddie at the same time and the relationship can actually develop onscreen.

Then again... I just hate important characterization happening offscreen, lmao. It's one of my absolute biggest pet peeves in storytelling. It's the one thing that's actually irritating me most this season, as far as Guillermo is concerned. So that could be my own irritations coloring my analysis. lmao
