something about making a playlist with songs that start with the letters in your URL? that had to be fun with a long URL like the above, lol (I say, having narrowly avoided this fate myself with my old URL)
I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be an OC playlist or just a general one so I'm doing a general one featuring fave songs, because otherwise I'll be here for hours (OC playlists are way harder)
Row Row, Zeal & Ardor Origins, Saor This Godless Endeavor, Nevermore Singularity, Anaal Nathrakh Poison!, O'Brother Eclipse, Pink Floyd A Light in the Storm, Masayoshi Soken Kingdom, Devin Townsend Project Eula, Baroness Rewind, Leprous

Godless
The last time i believed in a soul, i needed my Kia to get me to Washington with only 50 bucks in gas. Since when does an entity need advertising on giant billboards? I mean if omnipotence is true, then why all the ads? Couldn't God just Will its way into our hearts? I had a devine intervention the other day. All my family wrote me letters saying how they missed the old me and that i was losing control. Then a bunch of cameras popped out of nowhere and followed me to the convenient clinic, where i purchased several malt liquors. I think it was just a regular intervention though since it wasn't as effective as a "devine" one insinuates.

Live Bait
You get better catches with live bait.
The sailor snorted. He clung to what remained of a ship deck, the old wood creaked perilously with each wave. It was an old landmark now; just a pile of wood run aground on a isolated rock island in the North Sea that was so old, no one remembered what her name was.
The acrid smell of bird poop filled the sailor's nose. The rocks were stained white from the sea birds who nested there and the residents squawked at the intruder.
Occasionally, the sailor felt something brush curiously at his toes but the majority of the fish who lived in the shallows weren’t the sort he was frightened of, nor the kind his godless crew mates searched for. They searched for bigger, better catches.
Rumors swirled recently in port that the wreck was now home to a mermaid. Just two weeks past, some old coot in a tavern claimed, the creature was spotted swimming about the old wreck. It liked people, the old bastard said. It would swim right up to ships and dinghies. So what better way to catch it, the young sailor’s captain thought, than to toss it some bait.
The sailor slipped a little further into the water. His arms were so tired. The grey, freezing water soaked through his boots and trousers, a strange juxtaposition with the sun that, for once, beamed brightly down on him.
“Bastards.” he grumbled, kicking as something brushed against his feet again. “What horse shit this is... there’s no fucking mermaid, you pieces of shit!”
There was no way they could hear him. His ship was anchored about two hundred yards away. They’d rowed him out, hands bound, to the island and shoved him onto the wreck.
“God, I’m going to die here.” the sailor whispered. “Oh, God, why here?”
He had to admit, he wasn’t really sure if he believed in God but maybe some deity believed in him still.
“Well, at least I can see Mother again.” he sighed. “Oi! Fuck off!” He kicked at an intruding fish again. “I’m having a moment-” His words turned to a mangled scream as strong, huge fingers wrapped around his ankle. The sailor looked down at the water and an other face stared back at him.
“Stop screaming.” the person said. This person was huge though. The sailor wasn’t small but this stranger was easily twice his size. “Please, stop, I’m not here to hurt you.”
The sailor scrambled back up the deck as well as his exhausted body could go. Which, sadly, wasn’t very far.
“What... What?” the sailor whimpered. The being was clearly not human. Its back was black, but its chest and arms were pale white. Short dark hair clung to its head. It laid out on the deck, the wood creaking loudly in protest, and the sailor caught sight of a long, black and white tail.
“Calm down.” the creature sighed.
“You’re... real.” The sailor whimpered. “Or have I died?”
“You’re not dead.” the creature shook his head. At least, he looked like a ‘he’ at first glance. “What are you doing here?”
“They dumped me here trying to catch you.” the sailor pointed at the ship.
The creature sat up a bit, eyeing the vessel. “To catch me?” he huffed and slapped the water with his tail.
“You’d better get out of here.” the sailor said. “They’re lowering a boat.”
The creature looked back at the sailor, then at the ship. “Take a deep breath.”
“Take a what- Hey!”
The creature pulled him under the surface and yanked the sailor close to his body. He dove deep under the remains of the ship wreck, then shot away from it all together. The sailor’s ears popped and his chest burned. Surely that was how he died, drowned by a mer-person in the freezing waters of the North Sea.
But the creature pushed him suddenly up and out of the water and the sailor sucked in a breath.
“Breathe. It’s alright.” the creature said, rolling onto his back to support the sailor. “We aren’t far enough away from them yet. We need to go to the other side of the island, past the breakers on the cove. They won’t be able to reach us there.”
The sailor stared at the creature, shaking with cold. “Why did you take me with you?”
“Wouldn’t they have just left you there again?” the creature asked. It smiled, showing off sharp teeth. “They won’t hurt us.”
The sailor clung to the creature’s broad shoulders as best as his trembling arms could. The creature had a point. If his crew mates were willing to leave him once, they’d do it again.
“Alright.” he whispered. “But don’t dive so deep this time. I thought my eyes would pop out.”
“We won’t have to.” the creature nodded. “Do you have a name?”
“Tristan.” the sailor mumbled. His vision stared to darken at the edges. “You?”
“I’m Devin.”

Super Short Reviews summer / fall TV part three
Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hulu) – Can you stop looking for all the references to Richard Curtis other work and just enjoy the show?? I hope so, because the magic here is the cast, lead by Nathalie Emmanuel and Nikesh Patel, and of course the real star – the romantic London world they inhabit.
Wu Assassins (Net) – This is for anyone who likes comic books or super hero movies or martial arts or Chinese mysticism or action movies or lots & lots of fighting. Also Katheryn Winnick yay! Basically its for anyone who likes TV (just ignore the cheesy dream realm stuff.)
Almost Family (Fox) – I honestly didn’t make it all the way through the first episode. Trying to buy the other half of Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow as the lead in a drama was too much to ask of me.
Family Reunion (Netflix) – another typical CW sitcom that somehow landed on Netlfix instead – this one’s PG rated jokes and very colourful outfits are lead by Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine.
The Boys (Amazon) – I dig it. And not just cuz I love Karl Urban. I like the idea of the normal dude (played by Jack Quaid) being super pissed and discovering the rampant narcissism of the super ability folks. There’s some fantastic dark humour here and the actors are clearly having a blast. Created by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen – now that’s a trio!
Nancy Drew (CW) – The perfect companion to Riverdale, modern day Nancy Drew has adult relations, murder mysteries and... ghosts. And never any sunshine. And hey look its Scott Wolf!
(Tyler Perry’s) Sistas (BET) – These four leading ladies are terrific fun, and everyone looks absolutely fabulous... but I had trouble hooking into any of the story lines.
Ad Vitam (Netflix) – France. Freaky Deaky. The premise is good enough sci-fi wise – humans have discovered how to re-generate and never die, and what does that do to the world? But even with Garance Marillier trying her hardest to be interesting and deep, where’s the story to back her up?
Treadstone (USA) – Yes, yes. More great fighting – a spin off from the Robert Ludlum main Bourne concept that soldiers could be brainwashed Manchurian Candidate style. Great international cast including Tracy Ifeachor, Hyo-Joo Han, Omar Metwally, and Michelle Forbes. Incredible locations.
Unbelievable (Net) – warning!!! You will need to BINGE WATCH !!! Merritt Wever and Toni Colette are addictive. When you finish this and want to know what else Wever was in go binge watch Godless (also on Netflix.)
(Tyler Perry’s) The Oval (BET) – Who needs soap operas when you’ve got this? Its the kind of tv you will talk back to the screen. So much fun.
Better Than Us (Netflix) – Russia. What happens when a rogue sex bot has a “times up” moment, wanders off on her own, and chooses a sweet little girl to be her first user? ENDLESS ENTERTAINMENT thats what. Vitaliya Kornienko is priceless as the little girl and the adults do a great job as well. Thumbs up from me!
This Way Up (Hulu) –UK. The lead girl (and show creator) Aisling Bea is about 50 percent funny and 50 percent annoying but the rest of the cast / characters are super fun – Sharon Horgan, Aasif Mandvi, Indira Varma, Tobias Menzies.
NOT REVIEWED:
Scams (Netflix) – Japan.
Drug Squad: Costa del Sol (Netflix) – Spain.
45 RPM (Netflix) – Spain.
Monzon (Netflix) – Argentina.
The Naked Director (Netflix) – Japan.
Sintonia (Netflix) – Brazil.
Love Alarm (Netflix) – South Korea.

After the visit the boy and his family decided to immediately go back home because in the next day is the feast day of their community when they got home the procession begin the boy wondered why that he is interesting to the religious practices so then many questions formed to his mind all he needs is an answer but he know no one could answer his question except God so for the first time he ask God why he experience a cryptic feelings and hoping for God's response.
School day started the weird boy starting also to do his daily routine in making his classmates cry and his teachers discomfort but when the catechism period began the rude boy find interest to listen and then the catechist call his attention and said would you like to be a God's altar boy? the boy dazed in a moment and clarify to the catechist if her question is referring to him the catechist simply reply Yes you! I mean you young man do you want or not? The boy dazed again and guessing if the catechist is blend or out of his mind, he can't believe out of 40 student in that room only him the most stubborn boy asked by the catechist to become acolyte, then the catechist said can you start in Sunday? no word came out from the rude boy's mouth and completely silent is his answer so the catechist said so? silence means yes!
The boy go home with a empty mind and when the night has come he pray to God if why he responded seriously and unexpected way, so the boy realized that despite of all evil deeds he committed their is still a lovely God whom love him the most so with no hesitation he answered the devine call and he become an acolyte to their chapel in suday morning together with his friends the investiture began and they become a totally servants of God starting at that day up until the present.
And if you wonder if the boy eventually change? No but one thing assure he is totally different than before and striving for holiness.

Second Trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Mosaic
Mosaic is a fascinating experiment that must have been beastly to pull off. The app, available for free this month (November 2017), is billed as an interactive storytelling experience in which viewers get to choose what point of view they want to follow the story from. The choices the viewer makes build upon each other which enables multiple perspectives and conclusions. In January 2018, HBO will air Soderbergh’s linear, six-part limited series with which viewers can compare their versions.
Mosaic was developed by Soderbergh with producer Casey Silver (Godless) and writer Ed Solomon (Now You See Me). The series stars Sharon Stone, Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Bea Bridges, Paul Reubens, Jennifer Ferrin, Devin Ratray, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb, and Maya Kazan.

Just Some Fun Loving Atheists Doin’ What Atheists Do?
This isn’t the place i had in mind for this. However this little gem hits a long simmering nerve. I am saving these things for a broader commentary page i still plan to get up before the end of the year. This one however found friends so it’s here making a rough and early appearance
Secular Left Is Terrified of Religion: Exhibit A – Paul Ryan’s Statement of Faith
"The right thing to do is pray in moments like this because you know what? Prayer works!" He also said the "secular left" doesn't get it. "People who don't have faith, don't understand faith."
Everything Ryan said is true and none of it is controversial, unless, of course, it is interpreted through the lens of the secular left.
Secular left = Progressive = gov is the moral authority. Fine, forget them that is not who or what i am concerned with here. "People who don't have faith, don't understand faith." How does one find faith if one can not understand faith? It is a leap a surrender, that i understand. However, can i not understand forgiveness, see grace, wish someone well, or hope that they find peace? Is it possible to think that knowing some one is praying for u might give u pause, a quiet moment from everything going on around u, a moment of grace? Can I not understand the serenity prayer as a wise lesson that is always learned again as apposed to a wish for a grant from God? Does one mean less than the other?
Is it that "People who don't have faith, don't understand faith." or is it that those who do can’t or won’t explain it. Do they believe to stay part of a community or to a far lesser extent today fear of non belief. As a general critique, i would question Ryan’s or any individuals faith, do all people that believe they have faith really do or more importantly understand it.
-Megachurch Pastor Refuses To Condemn Abortion
-Catholic Cardinal: To Claim Adultery Okay Under Certain Circumstances is 'Heresy' and Causes 'Schism'
-And any number of statements by the Pope that make u wonder if he is leading the faithful or running for an EU parliament seat.
Then there is this little series of gifs, which i am not posting because my old slow computer really does not like them. It says in a nut shell that people don’t go to church with u because your not christian enough?, and that preach to your self first. You can take it literally that people don’t want to ride with you to your church on Sunday because you don’t look like your really want to be there either. Or take it as i mean it above, if people don’t have faith and you can’t explain it to them, in this case demonstrate it to them in the way you live, then you don’t understand it well enough
Then there is this: Just Some Fun Loving Atheists Doin’ What Atheists Do
I hope this short list, that could be miles longer, proves a very important point. When you believe there is no God, then you make the rules. You establish your own morality apart from any constraining force. Do Christians make mistakes and violate God’s established morality? Sure. But when you compare the total population of atheists to the atrocities they commit, it proves atheists are much more likely to kill than almost any other group. Here’s a list that is growing thanks to Devin Kelley - the latest of a string of atheist killers.
-Correlation is not causation
-with out god i can’t understand faith
-atheist doesn’t equal progressive/swj/communist/Nazi
why does one assume that because someone isn’t “constrained” that they will be amoral. Can I read? Can I use religion as a good example, maybe even adopt most if not all of its values? Are no other sets of morality compatible, as functional, as good, or dare i say it possible better? Is it possible to be an amoral prick and still claim to have faith?
Atheist Jeffery Dahmer - This is small ball but I thought I would include someone that truly represents atheism in the USA. He brutally killed seventeen men and boys, dismembering them, storing their parts and indulging in cannibalism and necrophilia.
^amoral prick, belief if god not relevant
The belief that the state should be the arbiter of morality is not atheism. it is the belief that the state is God. it is the opposite of faith but not atheism. So Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, and Mussolini? may have been god less but i wouldn’t call them atheists.
"People who don't have faith, don't understand faith." is why the culture wars where lost to the progressives. If you can’t explain why gay marriage is bad in any other terms u lose. If you can’t explain why no fault divorce is bad in any other terms u lose. and on. and on. The tide on abortion seems to be turning, and why is that? Seen anyone mention god or talk to much of murder in that debate lately.
"People who don't have faith, don't understand faith." and “ people who cling to their god and guns” are equally as arrogant and wins no one to their side.I don’t have faith so i can’t understand and u cling to you god so u can’t understand so lets all just go eat crayons.
as i said it had friend and this is the last
Molding the Citizens of Tomorrow: Mindfulness and Manipulation
The unstated goal of programs like MindUp is to recreate the benefits of a Judeo-Christian society and biblical teachings without having to be constrained by that nasty old concept of God. One young woman with NYU Generation Meditation, being interviewed for the CBS Mindfulness documentary, expressed it best when she said, "I was always searching for this new way of channeling spirituality but not through a deity. I wanted a contemplative lifestyle practice that permeated everything." For Millennials, it fits in perfectly with the desire for a buffet-style belief system.
Schoolchildren, however, don't have a choice. It's a Machiavellian interfaith indoctrination that won't allow Franklin Graham into your child's classroom to share his views but welcomes Goldie Hawn with open arms because she won't pin the tail on a deity.
Mindfulness, or meditation as a progressive tool. Do you throw out meditation now. Do your write off those who think mindfulness has its uses as the enemy as well. what about being present? what about just focusing on the task at hand? Progressives corrupt it and traditionalist though the whole thing out. No progress is made.
I will thank the Progressives for opening the door on not necessarily a godless world but the possibility of one unmoored from both religion and western culture. Both of which have been a force for good and still are. The possibilities on the other side of that door are hidden by the progressive that rushed through first and began to destroy everything they left behind to take power. That what has happened until now. That isn’t all that’s there, the only possible out come.
the progressive vs Faith war is over. yet the fighting goes on. it is exhausting try to figure out if you are blind or the world is. i don’t have faith so maybe i am eating to many crayons

Live Bait
You get better catches with live bait.
The sailor snorted. He clung to what remained of a ship deck, the old wood creaked perilously with each wave. It was an old landmark now; just a pile of wood run aground on a isolated island that was so old, no one remembered what her name was.
The sun beat mercilessly down on his skin.
Surely that was how he died, drowned by a mermaid. Mer-person.
The sailor stared at the creature. “Why did you take me with you?”
“Wouldn’t they have just left you there again?” the creature asked. It smiled, showing off rows of sharp teeth. “They won’t hurt us.”
The sailor clung to the creature’s broad shoulders with shaking arms. He had a point. If his crew mates were willing to leave him once, they’d do it again.
“Alright.” he whispered. “But don’t dive so deep this time. I thought my eyes would pop out.”
“We won’t have to.” the creature nodded. “Do you have a name?”
“Tristan.” the sailor smiled. “You?”
“I’m Devin.”

I’ve done these year-end reflections for the last four years, and most of them have been how things went badly and how I hope they get better. I’m happy to say 2017 was a really solid year for me. There’s a whole list of accomplishments I’m proud of, some I had worked towards, some that happened by coincidence. I moved into my own apartment. I got a promotion and two different raises at work. I’ve been booked more than ever since I’ve been doing standup. I started my own show. I’ve made friends, at work and through comedy. And as someone that hasn’t had much of that in a few years, I think it’s helped me be less cynical and paranoid about new acquaintances and relationships whenever they do happen. I met Terrell Owens (kind of a weird dude) and Eric Dickerson (cool guy!) and got that close to Steve Kerr at the Warriors championship parade.
There’s still plenty more I hope to accomplish, but it’s fair to say this year is the start of an upward trajectory. I’m in a good space mentally and physically. I see people around me progressing and moving forward and I’m super happy for them. I’m thinking of going vegan. There’s people I hope to meet, places I hope to travel to, more achievements to realize.
As I started to put together these lists, I realized how strange my media intake felt this year. Stuff that happened earlier in the year feels like sooo long ago. There are songs I loved that I forgot were released this year at all. The albums list was tough because there was no clear number one for me but definitely a handful that I really liked. There were more beyond that I thoroughly enjoyed, put in a playlist, and then completely forgot about because I guess that’s what streaming is. “Crew” was easily my favorite song this year. I spend just enough time in car to actually listen to the radio and it was such a cool feeling to hear Shy Glizzy on there. I get psyched and sing along to his verse every. single time.
I watched a ton of TV this year but, really, no show comes close to American Vandal. The humor, the characters, the depth of the parody, the bingeability. It’s maybe the best representation of high school I’ve ever seen on screen. Quality all around. I don’t know that would tell someone who has never seen Twin Peaks to watch it, but there were three of four moments in this season that were some of the most visceral experiences I’ve ever had watching any TV or movie. Godless was fire. Mindhunter was also great. I thought this final season of The Carmichael Show was nearly perfect. Curb might not have had its best season but I laughed uncontrollably at every scene between Larry and Richard Lewis. The Get Down deserved more. The Deuce was as good as people said, but I think I needed a little something more. Shout out to Shark Tank for always coming through.
I may have watched more movies this year than in any other year in recent memory (shouts to my Movie Pass). I don’t know that I had an obvious number one, but Lady Bird, Florida Project and Get Out are in that discussion for me. But also Star Wars: The Last Jedi was maybe the greatest movie I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve spent so much of my life with this franchise, I didn’t think I could be surprised anymore. The throne room scene is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, and the audience reaction to Laura Dern’s lightspeed was priceless (every single time). Highlight: Watching Get Out at the Jack London theater in Oakland on opening weekend / Lowlight: not being able to discuss it at work the next day because San Francisco is the whitest, most clueless, most tone-deaf city on Earth. American Made won’t get mentioned a lot but it was one of the more fun experiences I’ve had at the movies. Girls Trip was awesome and hilarious. The Game of Thrones prison scene in Logan Lucky and the Kumail/Ray Romano 9/11 joke in The Big Sick are literally two of the funniest moments in any movie ever. I thought I was over comic book movies, but three ended up on this list. I still can’t tell if I liked Dunkirk.
Here’s to 2018.
