▪︎ REDESIGNING JETPAD (JETT)

Part two of what I intend to be my Go Jetters Re-Imagined / Redesigned series !! This time, is a redesign that allowed me to be a little more creative- JetPad !! In the show's canon, JetPad is both the name of the Go Jetters' mothership, and a sentient super-computer who helps to run the GJA, and assists Ubercorn in missions. I wanted to separate the two entities, and allow for JetPad, the sentient super-computer and CHARACTER to have more personality and storyline presence. So, she now has a holographic human form, allowing her to actually go on missions!

Similar to Ubercorn, Jett's design features a 70s and 80s Disco influence, but with Jett, I wanted her to look more professional than party. She wears an orange bustier top, and white flared bell-bottom style pants, with glittery star patches to tie her back into the Go Jetter identity. Mostly hidden, she wears a silk belt, with a star brooch. Over top, she wears what is probably my favourite clothing item of hers, a blue blazer with shoulder padding! Jett also wears orange boots, and winged glasses. All of her design elements in terms of outfit are inspired by the design of the JetPad vehicle, with the glasses emulating the large front mirror, the padded shoulders on the blazer for the large overtop vents, and even the heels resembling the two side jet boosters of the airship. I personally felt that even if the mothership and the sentient Jett were separated as entities, the latter possessing visual similarity would help to keep her recognisable as "JetPad".

I also changed her hair from my last design, giving her something more short, swoopy, and dynamic, as opposed to the rigid state of the old one. Plus- I think that this one is more visually unique. In terms of personality, she is the dead-pan, and slightly snarky foil to Ubercorn, assisting him and the Go Jetters in missions, as she is hooked up to all of the technology they own, as well as the internet. She can interact with the world around her, but people sometimes fall through her hologram body, mistaking it for real. And that's my design deep dive !!

I hope that you all like my redesign- I am SO SO SUPER PROUD of how this one turned out!! Now that I have that free time I mentioned in my last post, I hope to do the rest of the main cast, and create a full collection of these artworks!! These redesigns bring me so much joy, and I hope that you all like them just as much. ▪︎ REDESIGNING UBERCORN ☆

What if I made an Ubercorn design?? Well, imagine no more, because I just did!! When I redesign the characters, it's always to add more detail and flair, NEVER because I hate a design. Plus, the canon outfits are a little too plain for my art style. So here's what's hopefully the first post in my new redesign series, of Ubercorn!!

I stuck mostly to Ubercorn's 70s and 80s inspired disco look, giving his jumpsuit a bit of an upgrade, making it look a little bit less like a baby's onesie. The top half resembles the canon one a little, still being white with a star pattern, but I deviated from there with a purple star button, a deep neck with a popped collar, blue diamond patches on the arms, and Rainbow sleeve cuffs. The bottom half of the suit deviates a little more from the canon suit, but I encorporated the canon suit's blue into this part, creating a blue-to-teal glittery gradient that stands out amongst the Go Jetters' solid-colour suits. His pants also have the same Rainbow cuffs, creating a bit of unity in the look.

I also tried to encorperate some more modern aesthetics into the look, to account for Ubercorn's love of high technology. I replaced his goggles with a star-shaped visor, with a purple and red gradient which pays homage to his old goggles. Additionally, I decided to give him a protective hairstyle, as in flashbacks or photographs in the episodes, we see that Ubercorn has 4C hair !! I wanted to bring that into his modern look, while still keeping a similar energy to his original hairstyle, so I chose to give him braids, which he wears half put-up, and half down! His tail is also braided, to match ! He also has a little bit of a beard because I just think it looks nice. Don't question how it works if he's covered in fur. Shh. The rest of the design is pretty much the same, with his horn receiving a slight curve, his hooves staying shiny, and giving him some cheek fluff, and earrings. His eyes are a cyan-blue, as I headcanon that Unicorns and other antro horse species to have thevprinter-ink colours as their natural eye colour options. And that's the deep dive into my design !!! ♡♡♡

I really hope that you like my redesign, I'm very proud of it!! I love to create these redesigns, and would eventually like to do the whole cast in this style. This would mean also drawing the Funky Four; Xuli, Kyan, Lars and Foz, then Grandmaster Glitch (& the Grimbots!!) and Tala. I would also love to include my design for JetPad's holographic human form, as to include her in the main group too. If I wanted to further extend it, I could also do Professor Wave, Professor Nouveau, or Finn! I will have to see how I go for time, could take a couple months until I am actually free enough to do all of this, if any. If there's enough positive reception on this, I'll have to get to work sooner !!

As a bonus, I have also made a "Funky Fact File" version, which includes some of my headcanons for Ubercorn (plus some canon stuff!!), and a fun alternate layout. Thank you for reading through this whole post!! ♡♡

▪︎ REDESIGNING GRANDMASTER GLITCH

Part Three of my Go Jetters Re-Imagined / Redesigned series, and for now, the last adult character- its time for the one and only, Grandmaster Glitch !! It was a very fun opportunity to finally get to try my hand at redesigning the series' main villain, so I really wanted to go all-out on making a visually unique answer dynamic design, that really screams "Grandmaster Glitch", inside and out.

For my design, I decided to take cues from 70s and 80s cartoon villains, from series such as Masters of the Universe, Transformers, and TMNT. The idea was for the outfit to appear more menacing than Glitch himself, with sharp and square shapes, which convey his villainy, contrasting with his much more goofy, and misunderstood personality traits. His design is also meant to look a little bit like it could have been based off an old Go Jetters' uniform- as Glitch was an expelled ex-student. I'd like to think that he modelled the base suit from his old Jetter suit from the 80s, changing every little detail to eventually end up with what he got. It's definitely a home-made job, regardless. I also took some steam punk influence into consideration for this design, with the mechanical and metal details reflecting that part of his style, and calling back to the similar nature of his inventions.

Glitch's 70s - 80s villain inspired look is meant to contrast and rival Ubercorn and Jett's designs, which take influences from a different part of the same era, which better helps to identify them all as the "adults" of the cast, if their general personalities and demeanour did not do so already. I also tried to physically age Glitch a little from my last designs, making him truly look like a man having his evil mid-life crisis / power trip. I like to think that he wears his helmet at all times, because he's started balding underneath and he's rather self-conscious about it, and how it "ruins his image". I also kept his jet-pack's wings- which are retractable !! And that's my design deep dive !! ♡♡

Foz's Age - A Go Jetters Mini-Essay

If you've been in the Go Jetters fandom as long as I have, you'll know a lot about the characters, and have seen a lot of people making easy mistakes, because they haven't seen much media outside of the show itself. One of the biggest misconceptions I see floating around is the age of Go Jetter Foz. While none of the Go Jetters have explicitly stated ages in the show, the description for the show lists them as being "Go Jet Academy Seniors", which would place them at 16-17 years of age.

However, what a lot of people don't know is that this age range does not actually apply to Foz, and there is a LOT of times this information has been stated! A lot of people can be confused by the spread of misinformation, as well as fan content, so this essay is meant to help people out, by compiling all of the places that this has been said, that being mentioning of Foz's age range and status, with links, and then piece it all together for you to get a proper estimate of Foz's age, and what it means in the bigger picture. All of this information is from official sources.

Common Misconceptions

The biggest misconception regarding Foz's age, as stated before, is that Foz is the same age as the other Go Jetters. This is admittedly an easy mistake to make, as almost every description of the show doesn't make this distinction, mostly for the sake of simplicity. However, in other places, this is solved, namely the individual character biographies for the four Go Jetters. The pitch bio also mentions the fact of the Go Jetters being final year students. However, Foz's biography from this source has not been released to the public at the time of writing this. Nonetheless, there are other biographies which can be looked at which may have similar information.

Character Biographies

All of the Go Jetters characters have received multiple character biographies over the years, which aim to tell viewers a little something about each of the characters. I will be looking at two specific biographies, both taken from the Go Jetters Magazine- an official source linked to the show, the information shared in which lining up with the show.

The first of which is the "Funky Fact Files"- short character biographies about the four main Go Jetters, and Ubercorn. Foz's listed "Did You Know?" fact cites him as the youngest of the Go Jetter crew.

Later in another magazine, a "Fact Card" is included with a figurine of Foz. This bio shares almost the same information, again stating as his additional fact that he is the youngest member of the Go Jetters crew. The fact that these two sources back-up each other shows consistency, an important element to proving that Foz being the youngest isn't just a one-off statement.

Go Jetters Magazine

There's one other statement from the Go Jetters Official magazine, which isn't part of a character biography that is VERY important to note. That is the following statement, given within the magazine itself: "Foz is so clever that he skipped years at the Go Jet Academy to join the Go Jetters!". The use of the word 'years' plural is interesting, as that implies that he skipped a minimum of two academy years, rather than just one. The source confirms his young age again, through this statement.

Producer Interview

In an interview from October 2015, around the time of the show's release, the producers for the show sat down and answered some questions about the show, its plot, the process, and of course, the characters. When asked "Can you tell us a bit about each of the characters and what inspired them?", the producers made sure to mention that Foz was the youngest, using the term "child prodigy" to describe him. He is the only Go Jetter to be referred to as a child in this interview, and they again point out that he is the youngest of the team.

Pre-Production and Alternate Character Versions

While Foz's Titch Hikers and 2014 Game counterparts are not the same character as he is, they are part of the evolution that resulted in the final Foz, and share many of his traits, being his early counterparts and all.

Titch Hikers

In the Titch Hikers biography for "Didge", Foz's early-series counterpart, he is described as being the baby of the group. The use of this word, as well as sentences describing him as short and squidgy, infers him to be of a young age, when compared to the others, who are not described with such language. This is the youngest any version of Foz has ever been described to be. Additionally, his voice in the short pilot by Seed Animation is done by a child actor. The Titch Hikers concept and IP dates back to 2012, meaning that Foz being young in comparison to his team was always a planned aspect of his character.

Go Jetters (2014 Game)

There are two separate biographies for the version of Foz, or Sceimi, featured in the 2014 video game, which went on to inspire Go Jetters.

The first of which is from the game itself, and is only available in Gaelic. Translated to English, the text reads: "hi explorers! I'm Sceimi, the youngest but the smartest person in the team, and I have a plan. My favorite endings are volcanoes by far… kaBOOOm!!". Once again, the relevant part of this description is the mentioning of Foz's age range.

The other biography written for Foz is from the Cbeebies Grown-Ups page, where there is a section aimed at telling parents about the personalities of the four Go Jetters. While, like the other early biographies, they do not apply to the Foz from the Go Jetters TV Series, it is stated, once again, that he is the youngest Go Jetter. The exact wording of the statement being "Although he’s the youngest of the Go Jetters, Foz is the brains of the outfit, and it’s usually him who comes up with a plan to save the day".

What does this mean? (Conclusion)

With all this put together, it tells us, the viewers, one clear message. Foz is younger than his teammates, Xuli, Kyan and Lars, and by at least 2 years, minimum. Combined with the knowledge of his weight (mentioned in Series 2's Wolong Panda Reserve), and the implications that Foz was Tala's classmate prior to him becoming a Go Jetter (Series 3's Honey Bee Hijack, inferred only) Foz's rough age can be placed at 12-13 years old, which is 3-4 years younger than his Go Jetter teammates. Not a huge gap, but a big enough gap for people to need to be aware about it, and keep it in mind for the future.

CBEEBIES - "TITCH HIKERS" Opening Title Pitch (2012) - Found Here

An Early piece of Go Jetters media, this is an instrumental track pitched to be the theme song to "Titch Hikers", which was the early development pitch which went on to become Go Jetters. This track isn't featured in the pilot short, which did feature other music.

Personally, I think that this instrumental is an interesting look into what could have been! I am left wondering if the song would have had lyrics though. In the end, I am glad that we got the theme song we did, as it is far more iconic- and I personally love the work that Banks & Wag, and Sharleen Linton did on it.

Nonetheless- enjoy a little bit of Go Jetters History! Hit It!

I find it really fun that there are THREE separate "canons" for Go Jetters (The 2015-2020 TV Series, The 2014 Game and Titch Hikers) and really want to do something with this idea and concept, inspired by the current media trends of having a "Multiverse". So, I have plans to start working on a Go Jetters AU, where these three seperate Go Jetters continuities, and their characters, coincide and interact with eachother!

The personalities, abilities and looks of the 2014 Game and Titch Hikers characters will be based off what we know about the characters, with new lore being made with that in mind, as well as trying to make the characters a little more different from each-other. To avoid confusion between the 2014 Game Go Jetters and the TV Series Go Jetters, I will be using the Gaelic dub game names for the 2014 characters as their official names in this AU.

For now, everything I do for this AU will just be in writing, but I may eventually make art and edits for the concept.

This AU will be known as the 'GJ Triple Threat AU'! All posts about the AU will include this tag, so they're convenient and easy to find.

Some designs I did a while back for possible Go Jetters swimsuits !! We deserved a beach day episode where they ACTUALLY got a day off, meaning no suits or anything. I think it would have been a cool opportunity to show the Go Jetters reacting to and completing a mission without ANY of their regular gear- it's really give a cool definition to how skilled and smart they really all are, with or without gear !!

Also you can see some of my headcanons through these designs! Such as Transgender Lars (I hc him as FtM, and gave him top surgery scars), Kyan's prosthetic arm (Plus his burn scars, from the Click-On malfunction in Harbin Ice City, China), plus their general body types ♡♡. If I see negativity, transphobia, ableism or fatphobia, your ass will get blocked ♡. (:
