At some point I did want to read Mirai Nikki but the thing is when the first chapter of Big Order came out and it was like "oh this is from the Mirai Nikki mangaka" and it quickly turned out to be a terrible, terrible manga (one of the few I've ever dropped) my drive to check Mirai Nikki just died down I guess? Another very minor one was seeing that scene from the anime where Yuno is doing that face and seeing the manga panel for it, like. Kinda disappointing?

There's been a few manga/author combos where this happens. Elfen Lied is another one I've wanted (low priority) to read for a long time, same as Gokukoku no Brynhildr when it was finishing and I was waiting for it to be complete. Kimi wa Midara na Boku no Joou is also a highly rated one in that kind of genre (also <3<3<3 Mengo's art and shared love for fucked up women). But! Parallel Paradise aka Misogyny: The Manga is such a pile of shit. It does one thing well enough and that is that despite the ridiculous premise and clear disdain that Okamoto shows for any woman in his story, it is coherent and has decent worldbuilding(?????). That is if you ignore all the shit that the MC pulls and gets away with, never learning despite being killed, tortured mental and physically and still treating women as inferiors. Anyway. It will never be a recommendation, but I can tell you that there was a time when I was really invested in the story and there was a clear "you can't keep treating them like this" message to the MC, and yet. At this point it feels almost over, I just want this fucker to die painfully (again) so all the girls can live in peace (<- ultraunlikely to happen, since Okamoto Lynn (Rin?) does not seem to treat well or even care about fictional women. One would hope it's just a writing thing).

Finally reading :Gokukoku No Brynhildr" unfortunately I just have to read it online cause getting English copies of the manga seems to be very difficult (unless I wanna spend 80-100$ on the entire series 😅)

canon: professor krane is the director and lead scientist of the orre pokemon hq lab, which focuses on relationships between humans and pokemon, as well as the study of the orre environment as it slowly becomes more hospitable for humans and pokemon. he also reverse engineered (with his team) the snag machine and led development on the purification computer system to make it more easier to heal shadow pokemon on a larger scale.

my addition: larch krane was born a wood nymph (using @fatedforglory​‘s lore. bless them) who traveled to orre after learning of the state of it’s land with the intention to help heal it. he hadn’t realized quite how bad it was, but there was something about it that he couldn’t help but love. as a young scientist, cipher recruited him to help their operations, telling him they were focusing on solutions to make the land habitable and that was part of why they had so many pokemon coming in and out through the base.

it was during the first shadow pokemon crisis that he leaned the truth and, with help from some people inside cipher uncomfortable with the direction they were going, left. he set up the pokemon hq as a way to actually do the work he had come for and to prepare for the chance that cipher returned. many of his fellow scientists were either cipher defectors, or entered the profession just after the first crisis.

over the seven years he’s been based in orre, he shifted from wood nymph to dark nymph. he’s certain that the nature of orre will be the death of him eventually, but he’s okay with that. he loves it too much to leave when he can still do so much more.
