To think about it, when Hunter ran off, they probably spent the entire night searching for him. Because a kid with Belos on his tail alone in the woods, on the Boiling Isles of all places, is certainly not safe. Dana did not neglect to make these people decent, they probably spent hours, combing every nook and cranny, calling out the name, “Hunter,” possibly ringing up people and calling in for extra help, until they absolutely had to call it a night when they were sure there was no trace of him. And it would’ve definitely fucked Luz up.

         A short, dry chuckle is uttered in response as he reclaims his seat at the counter, gesturing to the bartender for a refill. Aside from some spilled booze and broken glass in the back that’s yet to be tended to, the bar seems to recover swiftly from the unrest that had stirred its customers. “Far from my first, actually,” he reveals then as his burly fingers reach for his whiskey glass. What goes unmentioned is that his prior involvement in such bar brawls has consisted of being an active participant, at times an instigator even ( when he had been younger, on the lookout for a cheap thrill ) — but never before has he assumed the role of a mediator. He can’t say it’s his cup of tea, despite an aptitude to bring an end to such confrontations quickly. Most low-grade ruffians wise up and back down once he enters the scene, for fear they might be engaging with an opponent that will overpower them readily.

         “I agree though,” he continues inbetween taking a sip from his drink, “I could’ve done without playin’ peacemaker for a bunch of drunk-ass sports fanatics. On the bright side, they’re not gonna bother anyone for a while.”

     ray's return marks the swivel of soren's seat back to facing front, towards the bar they sat against. his elbow still props his body up as his other hand totes a simple rum and coke. despite disorder, he seemed quite content to remain in place, allowing his understudy to take charge   ( though he had no reason to not join the fray himself... this wasn't an test ).   with a laugh, he raises his glass.   ❝ that so? you been drinkin' after hours without me? ❞   he muses, eyebrows arched.   ❝ i'm not cool enough for you to hang out with? i'm hurt! ❞  

❝ you shooting me through the heart aside, it's exhausting shit, innit? not that i regret joining the force or anything, i prefer order; and perhaps i'm a little biased when i get t'be the one enforcing it, 'cause i like to think my idea of it is... fair. don't get me wrong, i'm not letting unlawful shit slide. but you'll experience someone who you know did wrong, but wasn't given the right help to try to do right. ❞   silence settles only when he takes a swig of his drink, but it is soon disrupted with a sigh and a query.   ❝ you're gonna be doin' a lot of peacemaking. but i presume you'll feel better when it's more meaningful, yeah? ❞
