Saying that you were scared, would be an understatement. The word Fear alone did not describe, how you felt. It was so awful, you wanted to cry.

Paul Atreides, the Duke's son and your beloved, would be tested by the Gom Jabbar today. You were scared to see him afterwards. Scared of how he'd react. If he would even survive.

And what you hated most, is that all you could do was wait. Wait outside that stupid room, that he would may never leave again.

You were pacing the hallways in front of the Library. Lady Jessica was guarding the Door. And even though, you knew she'd never let you or anyone else inside, she was just as distressed as you. If not more. After all, she didn't know if her son would leave this test alive. You could see the agony on her face, the fear when you heard Paul's screams from inside. Seconds felt like hours and Minutes like Days.

You noticed how Lady Jessica mumbled the Mantra of the Bene Gesserit to herself. Paul had told you about it, after he learned it. Somedays, it helped you too. Today was not one of these days.

'He's alive'

After what felt like forever, you heard the reverend Mother call Jessica inside. Your gaze followed her every movement, as she opened the door and stepped inside. You couldn't see what was going on inside, but when your gaze wandered to Jessicas hands, you saw that she signed something to you.

You sucked in a sharp breath and watched as the door closed behind Jessica. Paul was alive, he passed the test. The Gom Jabbar. You didn't even know, what that test actually was, but it was not like you cared. All that mattered to you, was that Paul was safe.

As you made your way back to Paul's and your quarters, your mind wandered to what Jessica had told you about the Bene Gesserit. That they were looking for a messiah. Kwisatz Haderach, they called him. You wondered what it would mean for Paul if he actually was the one...

You had decided, that the one thing you hated most in this universe, was waiting. You were awful at it. You just didn't have the patience for it.

You huffed as you sat outside the training room, waiting for Paul and Gurney to finish their session.

"Y/N?!"

You were pulled out for your nonexistent thoughts and looked up. It was Paul's father, the Duke.

"My lord", you mumbled, slightly bowing your head to him.

Leto seemed confused by my statement:"Why are you not with them?"

"Have you seen Paul?", Leto asked, his eyebrows furrowed. You looked back to the ground, almost in shame:"He's training with Gurney"

With a deep sigh, you stood up, straightening out your uniform:"Gurney said that Paul is on a far more advanced level then me and that we have to be trained separately"

"Nonsense!", Leto interrupted, his voice raised. He seemed genuinely confused by what you had told him. He quickly patted your shoulder, pulling you along with him,"Come on. Let's go to them"

You had no time, nor did you dare to contradict him.

The Duke made quick work of pushing the door to the training room open. He swiftly pulled me inside alongside him.

Your instincts almost immediately kicked in, when you saw a dagger flying towards your head. With a soft yelp, you ducked away as the blade got stuck in the wall.

Leto only chuckled and looked at Gurney. Paul stood behind him, a surprised expression on his face.

"Be more careful with that", you scolded, as you straightened up again, walking over to the dagger and pulling it out of the wall.

"Gurney",Leto finally started, "I want you to train Paul and Y/N together"

Paul gave you an apologetic smile as you tossed the dagger back to him. You could Only grin at him in return. You were used to his shenanigans by now.

"But Mylord-"

"There are no but's", Leto quickly interrupted him, promptly ending the discussion. Without another word he was out if the door again, probably tending to whatever matters that needed the Duke's presence.

You looked after him with a sigh. While you were thankful for his support, you also knew that if you were to train together with Paul, he'd beat you in whatever exercise you were doing. It had always been that way. In all the years, you knew him, you had only beaten him a handful of times.

Gurney sighed too, before looking over to you:"Come here"

You promptly followed his orders, walkkg over to him and Paul and getting into fighting stance.

"Shields!", he said and waited until both you and Paul had activated your shields. Gurney handed you a weapon of your own and stepped back.

You barely had time to react, when Paul already attacked you. You dodged his Blade, ducking away, which turned out to be a horrible mistake. Paul always seemed to be one step ahead of you. And as you ducked away, he landed a kick in the knees, causing you to stumble to the floor. You nearly let go of your dagger, but grabbed it in the mast moment. You saw Paul jumping on top of you. You had mere seconds to raise your danger and deflect his direct attack. He was trying to pierce your shield, but was unsuccessful. You used his short moment of distraction to push him off of you, quickly jumping to your feet again.

"You've improved your defense", Gurney mumbled, his eyes following your movements closely.

You made the mistake to let yourself get distracted by Gurneys words and promptly payed the prize for it. Paul used the moment to tackle you to the ground, your dagger flying god knows where. Only seconds later, you felt Paul's Blade pierce your shield and press onto your throat.

"Or perhaps not" , Gurney shrugged. Paul finally let go of you, allowing you to sit up. You watched Gurney walk over to the two of you.

"You really need to work on your defense. Don't let yourself get distracted so easily. You have to know the movements by heart. But that takes years if training of course..", the old man explained. You could only sigh, nodding at what Gurney told you.

You looked at your Blade for a second, that was still laying a few meters in front of you, before your gaze wandered over to Paul who was grinning down at you.

"You're dismissed for today", Gurney finally said. He turned towards Paul, bowing his had to the soon-to-be Duke, before swiftly exiting the room, leaving you alone.

"How's the view from down there?", he asked cheekily.

"Oh I dont know. You tell me!", you leaned up, quickly grabbing his wrist and pulling him down with you. Paul huffed as he tumbled to the ground, but you didn't miss the small grin on his face.

"It's a very nice view", he finally said, patting your thigh.

"Yeah sure", you chuckled, putting your hand down on top of his. Paul grinned and quickly pecked your lips. You couldn't help but smile, kissing him again, your hand wandering to his neck in the process.

When the two of you finally parted, you saw that Pauls expression had changed entirely. The was no humor in his face anymore. He looked dead-serious. You frowned slightly. You knew what he was going to ask.

"It's getting better", you finally said, looking back up at him, "I promise."

"How is...you know?", he asked carefully, not wanting to make you uncomfortable.

Your gaze slowly wandered down to your arm. Your sleeve had ridden up while you were fighting. Almost instinctly, you pulled it back down, covering your skin.

Paul gave you a soft smile. He trusted you. And when you said, you were getting better. He would believe you. It was an unspoken understanding between the two of you. That'd you'd never lie to each other.

You watched as Paul gently took your hand in his, raising it to his lips and pressing a soft kiss to your wrist.

"Let's go to sleep", you said after a few moments of comfortable silence.

You quickly leaned in again, pressing a short kiss to Paul's Cheek. You watched as he closed his eyes, leaning his head on your shoulder.

"Just a few more minutes", Paul almost whined, pulling you closer by your hand. You could only chuckle at his almost child-like behavior:"Sure"

You smiled warmly, kissing the crown of his head, while your hand gently brushed through his hair in a comforting manner.

"For you, I will always wait. "
