After parting with Bradley Scanes following four years together at Red Bull, Verstappen is now working with Rupert Manwaring, who had been Carlos Sainz’s long-serving trainer. Sainz and Manwaring started working together eight years ago when Sainz was at Toro Rosso (now RB).
“We had an exceptional time together,” said Sainz. “We felt it was time to move on. Our lives were becoming different, and him living in the UK and me being more in Italy and Spain, I felt like it was time to change paths. I’m sure Max is going to enjoy the time with him.” Verstappen said it had been “nice” working with Manwaring given his F1 experience, saying he “knows what is needed.”
Verstappen noted managing sickness as being particularly important, as illness becomes inevitable with so much traveling throughout a season. Last year in Saudi Arabia, he came down with a bug that made Red Bull question whether he’d be fit for the race weekend. He only missed media day in the end.
“Everyone gets sick once a year at least,” Verstappen said. “You really try to minimize that, you try to be on top of things, and you know that when you go to certain countries, you know what you have to do to be careful not to be sick or whatever. Jet lag, traveling, it’s really about being well-rested.”
Even at 26, Verstappen is already implementing changes in his approach. “It may sound a bit weird, but I’m not 18 anymore,” Verstappen said. “At 18, you can do whatever you want, even the day before (the race)! Slowly, that is changing as well. I already start feeling that. But I’m sure we’ll come up with good plans on what to do.”
[...]
Verstappen, the overwhelming favorite to win a fourth title in 2024 and, one presumes, the majority of the 24 races, said he wanted to “make it as fun as possible” between races and find downtime away from his duties.
“Twenty-four races is a lot, and not only just the race weekend itself,” Verstappen said. “When we get back, there’s a lot of commitments. You have to get back to the factory as well to prepare with sim days, which almost takes a month as well in your schedule already alone.
“(I’m) just trying to make the best of it. Everyone knows I’m not a fan of it. But I don’t decide the calendar.”

Max only needs one more race win to equal Prost.
Two more after that to equal Seb.
One more after that and... the sky is truly the limit. Well, only Michael and Lewis are ahead of that.
When he first started, it was a question of when, not if he'd win a championship. He was the inevitable.
That hasn't changed. It's only the question that has changed.
He could do it by the end of the season or at the start of the next.
He's only 26. 26. Twenty fucking six.
Generational indeed...

i really wish my memory functioned and that people would stop telling me “look on the bright side, at least you’ll forget your painful experiences too” because. nah. i’ve had people who hurt me horribly call me up years later only for me to greet them like old friends because i literally could not remember why we stopped talking. all my confidence goes out the window when i have to make an argument because i can’t for the life of me remember where my sources are from, if they’re legitimate, whether or not i dreamed it up…
and even beyond that, shouldn’t i get to recall the wonderful experiences in detail, too? i went to bronycon in 2019 and it rewired my brain a bit for the better. hell if i can remember more than a few details. that’s unfair.

Charles wrote a column after the F2 race in Baku in 2017. He gives some interesting insights into how his racing mind works. However, proceed with caution (and bring tissues!).
Some bits that stood out for me:
Strangely, it was also probably the most difficult moment of the weekend emotionally. After the pole lap, it was quite bad sitting in my car with my helmet on, because I was thinking about my father, and it was tough. It was qualy laps every lap to try to get back as many positions as possible, to try to win the race. When I saw the gap in front after passing Artem, I knew it would be very hard, perhaps impossible. I had to push like crazy, and that's what I did; I took huge risks every lap to catch up as much as possible and try to get two wins. I'm glad [the Austria GP] is coming up soon, because I think racing is helping me a lot to go through these difficult times. Obviously it will never bring my father back, but at least I can try to do my best on track, try to honour him the best way I can. I think I'm working harder than ever to try to make the best results as I can, to thank him, in a way, for everything he has taught me, for the making me the driver I am today.

I wanna do a full day debrief but I’m soooooo fucking tired omg…. anyway, short version.
it was so much fun. the atmosphere is just off the charts. even if fanzone almost killed me and I kicked a kid behind me for behaving like an asshole. as a Fernando fan I’m not afraid to say “fuck them kids”.
everyone was lovely and fun. Daniel is so beautiful irl and Yuki was soooo smiley when he saw a group of his fans! He gave them a lil gift. Daniel and Yuki were a literal delight to watch. Daniel did say “well done, Baku” and I think hearing it first hand healed me a little.
Fernando and Lance looked like a couple on vacation who are actively judging everyone around ahaha! Fernando said they’d have to wait until 2026 for a proper car made by Newey. Lance was just. Unbothered ahahah but he did wave at me!! I think he’s just really shy.
Alex and Franco also were with AM boys on stage. Alex talked about his cat and Franco was happy to see Argentinian flags in the crowd!! A lovely moment.
McLaren and Kick Sauber panel was a mess cause kids behind me went insane for Lando and that’s where I had to choose violence against them lmao. Zhou had a group of his fans holding up signs with his cat!!! He was so happy to see them. Valtteri was fun, a legend honestly. They threw out some signed caps and chaos ensured. I got squished (and it was captured on F1 insta and on Lando’s insta too….). Lando jumped down to hand out a cap (organizers got mad cause no driver was allowed to do that) and he was literally in front of me and I looked him in the eyes. Won the stare down tbh.
overall everyone got pretty standard fun questions. it was soooo cool to see drivers up close. they felt so real.
after that I got some more merch… then Fp1… had dinner… walked around the old city of Baku… fp2….
the experience of seeing an F1 car for the first time on track hit me real hard. it’s good to have you’re dreams become a reality, ya know?
tomorrow I’ll try to be at the front of another fan forum. wish me luck 🐭

The difference between Ferrari and Williams and Alpha Tauri has been SOOOOO glaring these past two races
Because neither of these teams has ever heard of strategy or a car in line with their goals and just have their drivers drive races on vibes and overinflated egos alone but Alpha Tauri can always trust on people blaming their drivers when things go to hell while Ferrari can trust on their fanbase having civil war anyhow so their mistakes only half matter. Meanwhile Williams has been bad for so long if the car makes it to the chequered flag it’s already finished above expectations so technically we are doing GOOD this season 💁‍♀️

It sounds like you have endometriosis and/or adenomyosus, neither of which appear on any scans! Your period pain should never incapacitate you!
hii thank u for this + the ask u sent after this ! i was always hesitant abt endo bc i only meet some of the symptoms, but maybe that rly is it... the thing is idk what else to do bc i've talked to several GPs abt this and only one of them was like. "yeah smth is wrong enough to send them to an ultrasound" but obviously that turned up w nothing so i have no diagnosis for anything...idk what else to do like..who else do i talk to without going to a private clinic 😭
